One of my favorite phrases was “That’s just who I am”
I used it for EVERYTHING.
👉🏼 To be mean to people 👉🏼 To get drunk out of my mind 👉🏼 To have bad customer service 👉🏼 To eat like shit 👉🏼 To be treated badly by my family
And I’ll never forget the turning point that made me stop using that excuse.
I was in a mood where I was preemptively judging as a defense mechanism, because I didn’t want people to see me. I wanted them to see the other person first.
And I was MEAN.
(My mom used to say I could make you wish you’d never been born.)
My husband (then boyfriend) told me to “knock it off.”
I just replied, “You know this is just how I am.”
He just looked and said to me,
“Well it’s fucking disgusting.”

There it was.
All it took was someone who really loved me to challenge my way of thinking.
To have me see what I *really* looked like to the outside world.
But even so, the choice was mine.
Just as is the choice is always yours.
Your desire to change ALWAYS has to be greater than your desire to stay in your comfort zone.
We’re built to sit in our comfort zone. Our safety.
But change - the real magic - happens when you’re courageous enough to step into creating that new life you desire.
For me, it started as one where I was respected as much as I actually sought out to be. Not out of fear. But out of expertise.
