Jump Leads launches at 8am pacific tomorrow!

The series is six episodes of science-fiction comedy. It's Doctor Who meets Red Dwarf by way of Sliders, and I am insanely proud of it.

Jump Leads follows two trainees in the Lead Service - a sort-of self-appointed reality police - as they travel to parallel universes on their earliest field training exercises. Chaperoned by the eccentric but charming Captain Lucas, they soon learn that there's more to travelling to parallel worlds than their training textbooks might have covered.

The show features an amazing cast, including Austin Lee Matthews (Final Fantasy VII Remake, Pokémon Revolution, Megaton Girl) and Dino Andrade (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Bidoof's Big Stand) as well as guest appearances from Connor Andrade (We Baby Bears, Shenmue III, Spider-Man), Lemar Harris (who recently appeared as the DM in Rhett & Link's "We Hired an Exorcist to Play D&D!"), and Will Overgard (Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed).

It also features:

Six (mostly) standalone stories, one of which is entirely about character development take that prestige television!

Two diametrically-opposed characters stuck together through circumstance!

Queer lead characters!

At least two different types of robot!

Two mid-credits scenes that are just for jokes and don't serve to set up spin-offs of some kind!

Today marks the 5th anniversary of Zuzubaland, also known as Zuzubalândía in Brazil. For context, Zuzubaland is a Brazilian animated series created by Mariana Caltabiano. The series was based on the book Jujubalândía, published in 1997, and serves as a reboot of the children's live-action series of the same name, which premiered on April 13, 1998, making that series 25 at the time of this post. The show revolves around Zuzu, a cute little bee girl who lives in the titular world of Zuzubaland/Zuzubâlandía (in the original book, it was called Jujubalândía) along with all her friends and dreams about being a famous singer in spite of her ear-grating voice. Zuzubaland is a kingdom ruled by King Appetite where everything is made out of food, right down to the character names being puns of the food they represent (e.g. Marsha Mallow is a pun on "marshmallow"). The main antagonist is the Green Witch (or Anorexic Witch in some sources, but I would prefer to call her "Greenhilda" - a portmanteau on "green" (her skin color) and the name "Brunhilda"), who hates food, joy and Zuzu's singing and wants to destroy Zuzubaland. But the only way to break the magic of the grandmothers that protects the kingdom is to get the magic crown that King Appetite keeps under a lock and key. Garfedia is her assistant, but she isn't really malicious as she's somewhat ineffectual but kind; she has a doll she keeps every day called Kellen. She also has a bad habit of farting (albeit unintentionally) when she laughs a lot. (source: Wikipedia PT)

Funnily enough is that this wouldn't be the first time we would see Zuzu and friends in animated form: Gui e Estopa was another animated series created by Mariana Caltabiano originally launched in 2000 as a children's website called Iguinho, with the mascot being a puppy of the same name (at least initially). He is best friends with Estopa (a dog), is in love with Croquette the beautiful, and has a rivarly with Pitiburro. A series of films were made before finally becoming a cartoon in 2009 that aired on Cartoon Network. They even have an official YouTube channel. (source: Wikipedia PT)

A crossover episode simply titled "Zuzubalândia" was released on July 20, 2016, two years before Zuzubaland premiered. Unfortunately its only available in Portuguese without subtitles (or at least the English subtitles) and I don't know much about the episode's plot other than it being a proposed pilot for Zuzubaland. But if I want to summarize this plot, it's basically Gui having a dream about going to Zuzubaland alongside Estopa. I also forgot to mention that it also had a musical in 2013, though I could only find one image of that one.

While this show, and by extension franchise, is hardly well-known in the West, it didn't stop Zuzubaland from having it's own YouTube Channel AND official English dub by none other than Bang Zoom! Entertaiment!

The English dub is not only easily my favorite EN dubs of Brazilian cartoons next to Ba Da Bean (both recorded by the same studio), but it also introduced me to the series. The cast includes Dino Andrade as Zuzu, Aleks Le as Sundae, Amber Connor as Popcorn, Zeno Robinson as Rocky, Joe J. Thomas as Hot Dog, Ryan Bartley as Marsha, and Jason Marnocha as King Appetite, but I think the best performance hands down would have to be Wendee Lee (the titular character from Haruhi Suzumiya, Konata Izumi from Lucky Star, Faye Valetine from Cowboy Bebop, Blanc/White Heart from Hyperdimension Neptunia, and Lyn and Veronica from Fire Emblem) as The Green Witch, whose loud-mouth, nasally Wicked Witch-esque voice perfectly suits her character. In fact, I first noticed this while looking at Lee's BTVA page. I was honestly shocked knowing that she has the same voice actors as Blanc and Faye. And for the cherry on top, it has an official website (albeit in Portuguese). The website includes characters pages, video clips, games, comic strips, art, online books, music etc., so at least isn't completely obscure online unlike other South American cartoons (*cough* Underdogs United *cough*). Mariana Caltabiano also has her own official website deticated to herself and her cartoons.

In conclusion, Zuzubaland is and forever will be my favorite Brazilian cartoon of the 2010s and my favorite Brazilian cartoon of all time (Ba Da Bean is a close second). Vanguardias europeas

Las vanguardias fueron movimientos artísticos de la primera mitad del siglo XX, en las que los artistas compartían una misma agenda estética e ideológica, muchas de estas plasmandolas en manifiestos escritos.

Rompieron con la representación realista y los ideales de belleza, abriendo camino a la libre expresión y rechazaban fuertemente la concepción de que el arte sólo era para la burguesía.

Fauvismo: (Francia, 1904-1908). Empleaba pinceladas rápidas y toscas, no continuas, usaban colores llamativos, contrastantes y alterados (no acordes a la realidad) creando obras muy expresivas y agresivas. En DG se recuperan los tonos llamativos, creando paletas de color poco convencionales y el estilo de las pinceladas para crear elementos con grado de abstracción.

Cubismo: (Francia, 1907-1914). Fragmentaba las formas por medio de la geometrización y la vista en un sólo plano y colores sobrios/ de muy poca saturación. En DG se recupera esa sintetización, geometrización del elemento y experimentación con la perspectiva.

Futurismo: (Italia, 1909-1944). Mezcla figuras orgánicas y geométricas, , emplea pigmentos saturados y transparencias, en sus temas eran las máquinas, lo moderno y la velocidad. En DG se recupera los colores saturados, el concepto de velocidad/movimiento y la repetición y transparencia entre elementos.

Expresionismo alemán: (Alemania, 1905-1910). En sus obras mostraban elementos obscenos, eran de aspecto primitivo, la naturaleza y el ser humano eran lo más representado con expresiones tristes, con cuerpos desproporcionados y en espacios oscuros. En DG se recuperan los líneas gruesos, trazos agresivos y tonos oscuros, en la obra actual podemos ver un rostro con un aspecto desagradable, parece estar feliz, pero por la mirada y la sonrisa parecen de un maniático, que genera angustia.

Constructivismo ruso: (Rusia, 1921-1932). Este movimiento declaró guerra a la cultura burguesa, además de rechazar la idea clásica del arte , buscando enfatizar la producción cultural y hacer al arte accesible a todo el público. En DG se recupera las figuras y composiciones simples, las simetrías y repetición de formas y el objetivo de ser funcional y accesible.

Suprematismo: (Rusia, 1913-1923). Arte compuesto de figuras geométricas (sobre todo triángulos, rectángulos y cuadrados), colores primarios y secundarios y no figurativa. En DG se retoman composiciones con elementos distribuidos de forma similar, apoyandose de las técnicas visuales.

Dadaísmo: (Suiza, 1916-1920). Experimental, de sentido antiartístico, con humor irreverente y aborrece la belleza, retoma el collage e implementa el ready-made: la integración de objetos cotidianos a las obras de arte. En DG se recupera la técnica del collage y el uso de tipografías, un ejemplo siendo las imágenes vaporwave que toman obras de arte, interfaces de ordenadores de los 90s, animales para crear collages o composiciones chuscas pero con una fuerte identidad estética.

Surrealismo: (Francia, 1924-1940). Era irracional e irreverente, exploraba lo onírico y el subconsciente.

Muralismo mexicano: (México, Siglo XX) Este movimiento surgió con el propósito de valorar y recuperar la historia, fuente de nuestra identidad nacional y reconocer que sus descendientes prevalacen, son obras monumentales plasmadas en muros. En DG lo adapta a muros de avenidas o lugares vistosos para realizar campañas de productos, dándoles un toque más artístico.

The Minnesota Twins made the trek up to Sarasota for their first night game of the spring against the Orioles tonight. Pitching dominated for the first three innings as Joe Ryan and Kyle Bradish threw up zeroes. The Twins started the scoring in the fourth when Matt Wallner drilled a Kyle Bradish pitch out to left for a solo homer. The lead didn’t last long as Ryan Mountcastle led-off the bottom of the fourth with a double and Kyle Stowers doubled him home to even the game at one. The Orioles got back to work in the fifth as Jorge Mateo reached on an infield single. Ryan McKenna bunted for a base hit and Adam Frazier walked. Ryan Mountcastle hit an RBI groundout to put Baltimore up 2-1 after five innings of play. The Twins got back to work in the sixth when Seth Gray smacked a Bryan Baker pitch out to right for a solo homer. This tied the game at two after six innings of play. The Twins would pull ahead in the seventh as Cade Povich walked a pair of guys. Mikey Perez doubled home a run to put the Twins on top. The Orioles responded in the bottom of the seventh as Ryan McKenna led-off with a double to right. Josh Lester singled him home to even the game at three all. Baltimore would pull ahead in the eighth with a Maverick Handley walk. Mark Kolozsvar doubled and Colton Cowser loaded the bases with a walk. Connor Norby hit a grounder to shortstop Danny De Andrade and two runs scored on the play. The Orioles took a two-run lead into the final inning of play. DaShawn Keirsey started the ninth with a single and Will Holland was hit by a pitch. With two outs, Danny De Andrade singled home a run and Ben Ross stole home on a double steal. This tied the game at five and Willie Joe Garry struck out to end the inning. Dennis Santana had a 1-2-3 ninth and we ended up in a tie tonight in Sarasota. 

-Final Thoughts- Joe Ryan was solid in three shutout innings of work. He struck out four and surrendered two hits. Simeon Woods Richardson allowed two runs on five hits over two innings of work, Danny Coulombe threw a scoreless sixth, and Brock Stewart gave up a run in the seventh. Austin Schulfer gave up two unearned runs in 2/3 innings and Sean Nordlin got out of the jam. Dennis Santana had a perfect ninth to perserve the save. The Twins scattered seven hits and went 2-for-6 with runners in scoring position. They left six men on base. Tomorrow, Chris Sale will face Tyler Mahle back at Hammond Stadium as the Red Sox head across town.

Disney Junior And Disney+ Set A New Imagineering Age Of Fun With Eureka! On June 22th.

Imagineering a new era of fun she’s a big thinker who’s ahead of her time. Way, way ahead of her time - in fact, she invented the wheel.

The series is set to premiere Wednesday, June 22 at 7:30 p.m. EDT/PDT on Disney Junior. An initial batch of 5 episodes will also premiere the same day on on-demand platforms and streaming on Disney+ USA.

Additionaly a album featuring the first songs of the first season will be avalible at Walt Disney Records on June 24th.

Set in the fantastical prehistoric world of Rocky Falls,  Eureka! follows the story of Eureka, a young girl inventor who is way ahead of her time. She designs inventions and contraptions in the hopes of making the world a better place and moving her prehistoric community into a more modern era.

The series stars Ruth Righi (Sydney to the Max) as Eureka, Renée Elise Goldsberry (Hamilton) and Lil Rel Howery (Free Guy) as Eureka’s parents, Roxy and Rollo, and Javier Muñoz (Hamilton) as her teacher, Ohm.
