the boogeyman and the crooked man

so, a little story time. when i went to go see the boogeyman, i did not watch the trailer or anything really, i did not know how he looked like and i was fully expecting to see CROOKED MAN.

I MIXED THEM UP, AND I WAS SO EXCITED TO SEE THE BOOGEYMAN CAUSE I THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO BE HOT AND INSTEAD I GOT A BLACK ALIEN-LIKE CREATURE STANDING ON ALL FOURS.

i expressed it so loudly after the movie ended "fuck, man, i thought he was going to be hot." the group of guys behind me stared at me with the most incredulous looks EVER, it was hilarious.

THE CONJURING 2 (2016)

A satisfying follow up to the first, we again follow the Warren's assisting a family in supernatural peril through the ebb and flow of demonic possession. This time in London and with the backdrop of spooky premonitions from Mrs. Warren dropping hints about the next film in the lineup, The Nun. Not a great film but worth watching, heart pounding, and aesthetically beautiful. My biggest issue in the film was the use of a slender man like character who did nothing but detract from the scares. It was too out of place and jarring in a bad and sort of funny way, but not a scary way. There were similar scares and setups used in the other films that made this one feel a bit more played out.

The Warren's go from The Amityville Horror house to a similar case in London. Lorraine sees a premonition of Ed's death and wants to get out of the business but they love to help people and go anyway. A single mother is unaware that one of her daughters made a Ouija board and all hell enters their home and that daughter. Reporters and supernaturalists flock and run suspicions about the validity of the possession even as the daughter speaks with the voice of a 70 year old man and spits out vile things.

The Warren's come to the rescue but only prove that the daughter is faking it. Twist, the daughter made them think she was faking it to save her family from the demon, who is the nun that wants to kill Ed. There is also a discount slender man that was so awful I don't  really want to speak about it. The girl is fully possessed and tries to kill herself and Ed, but Lorraine asked the demon's name and therefore had dominion. The day is saved, the movie is satisfyingly wrapped up, and it ends up more like a romantic comedy than a horror film. Clean ending but otherwise pretty lackluster.
