Edit posted on 2 Sep 24: omg when I posted this a few days ago America had yet to win a medal in badminton (Olympic & Paralympic) and today Team USA’s mixed doubles in badminton won the silver medal!! Congrats to Jayci Simon & Miles Krajewski for their win and making history!! The first ever medal in badminton for USA!!

Being married to Bob & becoming Olympians for the sport of Badminton would look like:

You and Bob met in flight school following your respected commissions into the Navy in 2011, became friends and colleagues, which them bloomed into lovers about a year later. You were the pilot, and he was your back seater---so it is no surprise your relationship worked so well considering you two were partners in the sky. After about two years of dating, Bob popped the famous question and you guys were wed within the year--the Navy sending you guys to bases as a package deal.

As most military instillations, there's a community gym and recreation center where active, reserve, and their families go to participate in intermural sports and activities. Many go for the typical bowling league and softball team or try a hand at flag football and ultimate. For you and Bob, badminton called yall's name.

Originating in British India and popular among countries in Europe and Asia, badminton made its Olympic debut in 1992 in Barcelona, Spain. Now while at first glance badminton may look easy in comparison to other court sports with a net like tennis and volleyball, but badminton requires just as much speed, agility, and precision. Especially when the shuttlecock is flying at record speed from one opponent to the other. The better the motor skills, the better you are.

Of course in the beginning you guys were a little rusty. Figuring out the rules and the best way for you and Bob to coordinate moves. You were the better server, but Bob was better handling the back while you stayed close to the net.

What started as a fun, leisure activity became more serious as you continued to play. Like we're talking you put up a net in your backyard. Whenever you hosted gatherings, you can expect that at some point in the night people migrated to the backyard to play a game or two. And boy would it get intense whenever you and Bob were on opposite sides of the court. "I hope you enjoy losing, pretty boy." "Darling, I know you're always right....but tonight you are wrong."

Not only did you build a sweat when a game got intense, but you looked forward to spending time with your husband outside of work. Not having to deal with the stress of flying or anxiety of running missions. Badminton was a great way to relive the tension and stay active. After every game you shared a sweet kiss with your husband, exchanging praises of 'Great job,' and 'We'll get 'em next time."

You both were competitive and roughly a year after playing you drew attention when you decided to join a local circuit outside of intermural on base. Winning match after match, you guys came in second in your first tournament. A great introduction to the start of your athletic career in mixed doubles badminton---which by the way, shoutout to RedBull and Dunkin Doughnuts for the caffeine supply when balancing a military and sports career.

Now the Olympic Games....the greatest sporting stage the world has ever scene...was never something you envisioned when you and Bob picked up your rackets for the first time. You'd only been playing badminton for a few years, having started in 2014. By the time the Rio Games came around, you guys were no way in Olympic level standings. Sure you'd been in a handful of local tournaments, making the podium in all, but you'd only recently won your regional title for mixed doubles, set to compete in nationals. You had yet to play an international tournament.

That time would come in 2017, and while you came home with third place at you guys were motivated to do better. You wanted to win a World title. Especially to prove to people who thought badminton was not a sport of high popularity like tennis or volleyball--and something you only play as a unit in high school P.E. You and Bob were motivated to bring more eyes to badminton in America. And what better way than to dominate a world tour.

So, when you guys weren't in the sky you were on the court. In the gym. Coaching each other, studying competition, working on technique, rewatching matches from previous Olympics. The Tokyo Games became a goal. And you were determined to make them. The pressure was on considering the United States has never won a medal in any event in badminton. "So, the Olympics...pretty darn big if you ask me." "Baby, you should know that when we put our mind to something, we make it happen."

It got to the point where your family members and friends were asking y'all about progress and even buying you equipment as birthday presents. And with the amount of shuttlecocks you go through monthly it was a blessing to a whole bucket of them in your garage. Your rackets had y'alls callsign's on them and of course you had matching outfits. And soon you guys had to invest in a nice cabinet to display your medals, plaques, and trophies from your competitions. Having the 2018 BWF World Championship right in the center.

You and Bob became a household name in the sport in the American circuit. Not only because you two were dominated the competition, but also the fact you guys were married and Naval officers brought a lot of attention. People who followed the sport became fans and viewed you guys as a love story out of romance books. Friends/coworkers-to-lovers who become teammates and an unstoppable duo in their sport. Yeah, it wrote itself.

When the 2019 detachment came though that became the priority. As much as it pained you to put training for the Sudirman Cup on hold, you had an obligation to the Navy. Nonetheless, you packed up your equipment and made the drive down from Lemoore to San Diego. Once settled, you both were spending any free time at the base rec center, practicing even for 30 minutes if you had it.

Soon the rest of the team picked up your love for the sport and became intrigued. Natasha especially, who became invested in watching you two play against each other. Shocked to see how heated it got and the fact you were able to move so fast to save a rally. "You guys are really into this, huh?" "Yeah. We just started for fun years ago and well..it took off."

After the whole shit between Jake and Bradley where Mav did damage control by taking y'all to the beach for dogfight football, you and Bob whipped out the equipment and soon all 12 of ya paired up to play games. It pretty much turned into a bracket situation where duos were eliminated until two remained for the final round.

And who's suprised....you and Bob won. And because you guys were so good, the team practically interrogated you two to which the reveal of your side career surfaced.

"You mean to tell me," Jake squinted against the sun, "You two are pretty much famous badminton players and are on the road to making the Olympics next year?" "Yep, that's about right. We want to be the first Americans to win a medal in the sport."

Fast forward to the success of the Uranium mission and unexpected world pandemic that followed, you and Bob are homebound due to the Navy restricting all work to remote settings, leaving you all the time in the world to perfect your craft. You won the Sudirman Cup, putting your names once more as contenders for the Tokyo Games and had one more year to train due to the postponement. In that time you and the rest of the Top Gun detachment transferred to Fightertown permanently, further bonding the friendships formed and the team became y'alls biggest supporters.

Qualifying for the Olympics had to have ranked in your top three moments in life. Right in the middle between marrying Bob and the Uranium mission. You jumped in his arms, screaming in joy while he spun you around and let the tears flow, bringing his lips for a passionate kiss not caring who watched. Never had you thought picking up a random badminton racket to pass time and relieve stress after a long work day would lead you to competing in the greatest sporting event alongside the love of your life. Experiencing it with Bob made it all the better. "We're going to the Olympics, baby!!'

Stepping onto the court in Tokyo officially titled you and Bob as Olympians, and while you competed for the gold across the pacific, back home your friends and family gathered to watch it unfold decked in red, white, and blue. The Hard Deck, your hometown, Bob's hometown, the rec center back in Lemoore where you first began playing badminton, the entire damn Navy was cheering you on.

Goal #1: Become Olympians - Achieved. Goal #2: Become the 1st Americans to win a medal in badminton - Achieved. Goal #3: Become the 1st Americans to win a gold medal in badminton - Achieved.

Yeah, you read that right. Not only did you and Bob accomplish everything you set your eyes on, but you cemented yourself in history as the first Americans to win a medal in any event in the sport of badminton and it was the gold. You guys became Olympic champions. And you can best believe the whole world was shocked to their core during the intense, heart pounding, sweat inducing, on the edge of your seat gold medal match against the #1 team in the world. You had already proven yourself to be the team to watch out for after knocking out the other leading pairs in the quarter and semi-finals, but to walk away with the gold after losing the first match, winning the second and tying the score each time until it ended with you scoring the golden point of 30.

Put it in the history books.

And three years later in a sold out crowd with your friend and family in the city of love, you and Bob continued your romantic journey of love, dedication and partnership when you defended your gold medal, adding a second to your cabinet with the promise of a third when the Games return to the Los Angeles 😉

some venting: on parent fandom acceptance and the danny phantom tag

Honestly, the worst thing that certain Danny Phantom fans have done on this site to other fans is say that dp x dc is its own fandom. It's not. There's no such thing as a "crossover fandom" unique unto itself. You can say that people are too into this crossover or too into this au or whatever, but people who are fans of DC and Danny Phantom are into Danny Phantom and DC. That's just. What it is. Both properties are cool and combining them adds more characters and settings to play with together. All lore leads back to one or both parent fandoms, because those are the source material.

"Well the DC crossovers are so different—" Please. There have been Danny Phantom and Teen Titans crossovers since Danny Phantom was airing. I have read crossovers with House, NCIS, Supernatural, and probably anything else ffn had to bother with. One of my favorite works is a Gravity Falls fancomic that I still hope will update one day. No one cared how it was crossover then. In fact, I would say that we were one of the most crossed-over properties I knew of at the time that wasn't a SuperWhoLock-type popular show. DC crossovers are not new, they're just popular now.

"Well, it's got its own lore! >:(" Oh, like the vivisection aus? The Full Ghost aus? The corpse aus? The Danny-is-a-portal aus?? Tell me more about how new it is for an au to have its own unique lore. Love to hear it. Definitely it's the same for every author with no variation. There's for sure no unique takes from fans at every step of the way.

"Well, there's so MUCH of it." Tell me more about how other people having fun in their own way is your problem. Go ahead. Tell me more about how other people doing their own thing is personally horrible to you. It's really terrible when people do things you don't want to engage with, isn't it. It has to be separate from your fun. There is definitely no place where they blend; it has to be segregated altogether.

"But they're doing it in MY tag!" Oh, the Danny Phantom tag? The one with Danny in it? Where he's a main character? In the art and fic where he features??

The result is exactly as you'd expect; people who would be interested in joining the Danny Phantom community and making art and fic long-term because they like the characters and the show are getting sidelined because they're failing to like the show in the 'right way'. People who might love to join in and participate in community events and discussion and bring new ideas and aus to the table are being told that they like something completely different than the show in a way that, you know, somehow the original and extremely malleable fandom isn't??

I've been following multiple Danny Phantom blogs (or their author blogs that used to post dp fic) on and off on different accounts since 2015. I used to read Danny Phantom fanfic on ffn on my ipod touch during lunch or on my laptop once I made it home from school years before I even made a tumblr. I used to look forward to Dannymay and Ectober and I think I was even on tumblr the year that Narwhals started the Dannypocalypse?? (I for sure only saw the fallout though. I think I was busy that day)

I don't even open the Danny Phantom tag anymore. I still follow the people I follow...minus the people who've talked crap about fans who like Danny Phantom wrong, apparently, and I hope that good art comes my way without the constant underlying message that we're a scourge on our own fandom, I guess.

Congrats. There are no Danny Phantom fans who find the show through this form of crossover content. You've convinced them there's no point. They have their own tag, their own headcanons, their own fics, and their own culture. Are you happy now? Are you proud to be the fandom that doesn't want new fans? Is it nice, that people won't want to see your art and fics now, despite being hungry for new content? Did it help? Are you better for it? Did you maintain that canon purity you craved??

I saw a supernatural x danny phantom art piece today that kicked ass. It's from an artist I really, really like, who makes a lot of great stuff. I've bought their merch before and was excited all the way through their creative journey. No one tried to jump on them for crossover posting in the Danny Phantom space, using lore that's unique to that crossover.

But it's not about the crossover itself, is it.

My, perhaps unpopular, romantic headcanon with Yuno is that he is very awkward with romance. As in, he doesn't really get what's the deal with things like flowers and chocolates and little stuffed teddy bears with "I love you" hearts. Because they're just so ... generic? Tacky? If he was to give the same kind of a teddy every time he wants to do something "romantic", there would end up being so much clutter. Which is why he deems himself bad with romance, but... his love, and the romance, is in him suggesting trips you could make. Making plans for the two of you, and when he does give a gift, it comes from the heart and is something he genuinely thinks you would enjoy. Reciting poems is also something he wouldn't do, or be overtly expressive in his words of affection, but, rest assured, when he tells you that he likes something about you, he very much means it. His romance is very honest, down to earth, and domestic. It doesn't try to be anything more than it is

Trick with Yuno

Yuno is just a strange character to me. But not in the way how he is characterized; his personality or the rivalry thematic or such. I'm mainly thinking about how, back in the earlier days of my fandom journey, I read about how "Yuno was meant to be die early in the manga, but Tabata kept him around because he was popular". Obviously this take came from a very unofficial source, but for some reason it stuck with me. Maybe because there was mentions about how Yuno feels so... out of place? In the plot. Like he is in the Golden Dawn, where people hate him for his placement in the society, but also don't because he's strong. He is a prince, but also kinda not. He wants to be the Wizard King, of another nation. He is the (vice)captain of a squad, in a another nation, while knowing that he is a prince of Spade. Plus the power level ups that he seems to just... get, despite saying that he has always felt inferior to Asta (this feels just like words, because we haven't really seen this kind of a development from Yuno; which could be just about having so many characters in the story to play with) Like the way his personal story arc is constructed is ... in a lot of places? It almost feels like Tabata doesn't know what to do with him.

I don't know what to do with him in terms of the overall plot either. Because... to me the vision is that he eventually becomes the King of Spade, but that's... almost like ripping him away from what has been built for him thus far? If it makes sense? Though with the "you're ahead of me and have always been" statement could be a kind of easing into "you're the WK Asta, and I'll be King of Spade" decision. And would probably enable their rivalry to continue, in a manner of speaking.

I think the reason why he feels so strange to me, is that, considering how he is such a central character, there has been very little love for him in canon. Like I don't feel like Yuno has received love in the way he is built as a character. While there is so much more potential in him. Personally I like fanon Yuno a lot better than canon Yuno, because... fanon has actually tried to develop him, and characterize him.

Just wanted to say congrats on the followers, and I head canon Severus as autistic too. Sometimes I bring it out more in some stories than in others, but I do think it works and he was based off of a man who was on the autism spectrum too. Also, I'm autistic so let him be autistic. So, a question for you. How do you think Severus deals with having an autistic meltdown? Does he find a private place to let it all go? Does he just ward it off and keep it in with Occlumency? Something else?

Oh, and I thought of another canon thing that could support his autism. Autistic people often have trouble sleeping, and we see him prowling the corridors at night sometimes. Maybe his sleeping issues are related to his autism. Man hasn't heard of melatonin, or it just doesn't work for him. (It didn't for me).

Of course, sleeping problems could also be from PTSD/hyper vigilance which I also see him as having. Also, what is a secret stim that he does in private? And last question, sorry, but do you head canon Snape as smoking? It's a popular head canon and I'm asking because, if you do think he smokes, do you think smoking could count as a stim? :D

Snape and autism

Hi! Thank you so much for your comment its nice to meet someone else who's autistic and in the fandom! We're not alone lol :D and I've tried my best to add to the headcanons bellow, I hope you enjoy! :)

meltdowns - I think he'd unfortunately be a bit ashamed of them choosing to use his occlumency to mask until he could reach a quiet, dark corner somewhere that he could sooth himself but if he was unable to leave a situation for example becoming overstimulated during a meeting he would become noticeably agitated, snapping at anyone who dared to try and talk to him and leaving as soon as he possibly could hurrying away to let his guard down somewhere private

sleep - I agree I could definitely see his autism effecting his sleep patterns the dark circles under his eyes are DEEP I can imagine him trying to brew something for himself to help but giving up after it doesn't work and instead he just wanders the castle enjoying the dark and the silence. Although I can also see his brewing and dark magic research keeping him awake with the need to spend time on his special interests distracting him until morning and he realizes he has no time to rest, accidently pulling an all nighter several times a week just to have time to focus on his various hyperfixations or projects that he has on the go

However, I also agree that he definitely has other issues going on he could definitely have PTSD or depression (or both) meaning that he struggles to sleep and stays awake trying to keep himself calm and away from the negative thoughts swirling around in his head

smoking - I have thought about Severus smoking because I've seen lots of amazing fanart of it and it does pop up in fanfiction every now and again but I'm honestly not sure if I think he would or not

Personally, due to my own sensory issues I'm not a fan of smoking so if I was to selfishly headcanon him I'd have to say that he wouldn't and that possibly living in the time that he did it was popular and so Tobias smoked heavily leading to Severus hating it

Although, with his various mental health issues and it still being the social norm at the time I can definitely imagine him smoking and I can certainly see it being a stim, even though I don't smoke personally I know several others with autism who find the experience comforting and it can also help with anxiety as well therefore, easing Severus's nerves during his days as a spy

stims - Severus definitely tries to keep his stimming in public to a minimum by only rubbing his hands together but in private he feels more comfortable to express himself, I can imagine him grumbling to himself for comfort and making little sounds as he brews, bouncing on his toes when he walks about and tapping on nearby surfaces, also potentially biting his nails? Although he definitely doesn't acknowledge any of this as stimming and puts it down to his "nerves" while being a spy and believes he's just "fidgeting" as that's what he was told in his childhood repeatedly whenever someone saw him stimming

I just found out about this blog and I have many questions: what is Marxolor week and what is done?

Congrats on finding this place! It is VERY new!

Marxolor Week came about because it was brought up that we of the Kirby fandom maybe ought to have an official "Marxolor Day" or a day to celebrate either the ship, pairing, or close-knit grouping of trickster villains Marx and Magolor! As the Japanese fandom often treats their in-between birthday (or the date that falls directly in-between their two "birthdays", ie, June 9th) as that day, the idea of forming a Ship Week around it for the two of them was born!

(Note: while I and others ship them at least semi-romantically, people who ship them as platonic/aroace life partners and inseparable buddies are welcome too, as long as you're okay with sharing this space and don't neg those who see them romantically!)

-What is a "Ship Week?"

A "ship week" is a concept that has grown in popularity over recent years. It is the idea of uniting the fandom (as many who want to participate, that is!) to create and share NEWLY MADE content about a specific "ship" to hype it up, spread it around, give us all fun things to look forward to, and just celebrate in all the joy to be had around it - all over the course of one chosen seven day span of time!

-Why Marxolor?

Because I love them! I love writing and drawing and thinking about them and I love seeing other people do the same! Whether they're being boyfriends OR buddies, it makes my day feel that much better to see these two beloved characters interacting together!

They've got a lot in common in-game and out; they're frequently paired together in official merch despite zero on-screen interactions; they look good together; they can be used for silly fluff and angst in equal measure; and they're implied to know each other but are not related in any way + though neither has any canon age, their similar backgrounds and schemes mean that they're very naturally HC'd as being in the same age range (either as prank-loving, kinda childish adults or didn't-look-before-they-leapt power-hungry teens.)

Though frequently cited as the second most popular Kirby ship, Marxolor haven't seen a lot of ~celebration~ among the fandom, which is a shame with how much enjoyment these two lovable, chaotic dorks have given us over the years! So that's why, starting this year, we're having an official Kirby fandom Marxolor Week!

-What do we do?

In a few days, I will be posting a list of "prompts" or thematic ideas and suggestions. You have from now till when Marxolor Week starts (and after, if you're too busy) to create some form of "content" that A) prominently features the relationship between Marx and Magolor and B) relates back to the prompt in some way!

As long as its SFW (though light innuendo is allowed) there's no real limit on what that kind of content that can be! You can draw fanart! You can write fanfic! You can make a music playlist or write headcanons / imagines relating to the prompt! You can make an animation or write fan song lyrics / make a music track! You can make traditional art or some kind of arts and crafts project! If you've got plushies/figures you can stage a thematic photo of them!

We only ask that if you choose to submit a meme, in addition to relating back to the prompt in some way, you MUST put in more effort than just writing "Marx" and "Magolor" on it. EX: Try to draw the two of them in the situation portrayed in the meme instead. It's okay! This isn't a competition, and no one is judging you on quality!

If you're still taking requests, then I'd like to request a drabble, fic, or thoughts and whatnot for a Senku x male S/O scenario in which the Science Crew asks if Senku is dating anybody, and while they expect him to say no and that it's "a waste of time", he shares that he actually is in a relationship with someone who's still out there and petrified! Though, while they're all like "who's the unlucky lady?", he explains that S/O is actually a boy! Alternatively, he could not say anything until they all meet S/O and see that they're a boy! Ryusui kicks it off when Gen recalls about him going on about how he loves all women, bla bla bla.

Gen goes "You must've dated a lot of women to say that then, Ryusui. Though, I'm not surprised..." Like, this guy's an heir to a billion dollar (or yen. or whatvr currency) conglomerate, skilled, and the muscles.

"Even though I hadn't, I'd still say so! Women are beautiful creatures, every one of them. Men, too!" and ugh go bi king go. "Right Ukyo?"

"What's this have to do with me?" Ukyo smiles nervously.

"Awe, cmon, I'm sure you've had at least some experience being as charming as yourself!" ryusui would egg him on, grinning brightly. "You strike me as a popular ladies' guy!"

and i headcanon that ukyo probably did have a lot of admirers back then. oh my gosh like look at him??

Senku yawns. Gen seems to notice him.

Kohaku also like mulls this over. "I also did have a partner once, though it was brief." Chrome gapes. "What?! So even the gorilla was able to date before me?!"

that earns him two hits to the head.

then gen would start teasing chrome like "But hey, atleast youre not the only one in the single for life zone with senku here!"

and senku goes like "huh."

Hi again! Actually, there IS stuff with Rei, but Akari's got more due to being the more popular MC of the two I guess (also probably bc of anime Dawn). It depends mostly on who you choose as the MC in Legends. Instead of categorizing them as Akari and Rei, if we focus on their roles of MC and professor assistant, it stands to reason that the chosen MC gets closer to Ingo bc of both being Fallers.

You see, that's the wonder of being a fan content artist/writer, I have multiple HCs that contradict each other until I talk about a specific AU or circumstance.

I like it when both the MC and professor assistant have a certain level of friendship with Ingo though.

What are some things you are tired of seeing in the RPing community?

I mean, other than the afforementioned things... I haven't seen as many callout posts as I used to, which is great! I also haven't seen quite as much anti-proship mentality (I have actual resources for what proshipping ACTUALLY is, and not the definition that is pro-character defamation. tl;dr if you don't care what people ship or write and avoid the stuff you don't personally like, congrats, you're proship. that's aaaaall it means. not attributing MORALS onto fictional content. what other people choose to write and/or draw is legit none of my business), so I think this is also good. Though I suspect that when June rolls around, everyone is going to suddenly be clamouring for drama, it always happens like that.

Mostly I'm really tired of people being competitive with each other. It's died down a lot in the last few years, but it used to be really bad-- especially when you wrote a popular character, everyone was accusing everyone else of stealing headcanons and it was just a nightmare. Duplicates are normal to run into, and no one is in competition with one another. Just write what you wanna write, make sure your rules are legible, and stop assuming the worst in everyone.

— you’ve been in twisted wonderland for quite some time now, long enough for months to pass and holidays to come. so, in plain curiosity, you ended up asking riddle about how halloween in twisted wonderland worked. to be expected, it varied, and riddle explained it thoroughly, to the point you were sure it was the only information you would be able to recite—though, of course, the conversation led to the inevitable topic changes, and you figured you’d asked a very simple question, “in that case, how does trick-or-treating work in twisted wonderland? is that different too, or is it basically the same?”

— it was at that point riddle hummed awkwardly with a thin lipped smile, trying to explain that he didn’t really have experience on the matter. “well, i’ve never been trick-or-treating before, but from deuce and ace’s stories—“ “you’ve never gone trick-or-treating?!” it was a quick interjection from you, and riddle quickly accepted his fate that stemmed from your curiosity. he knew from then on, it was not about the differences in halloween celebration; it’d all be about the collecting of teeth-rotting sweets from strangers despite the equal likelihood of a trick. his expression warmed as he listened to you describe your experiences with trick-or-treating, and all the costumes you’d worn each year. he couldn’t lie, it sounded like a fun experience—he only wishes he didn’t have to miss out on it.

— though, he felt a surge of almost out of place excitement, that he accepted that he’d almost get used to when the source was you, when you held his hands in yours, “doesn’t matter! it’s never too late to go trick-or-treating! and with halloween week, we’ll already have costumes to wear!” and that was how he learned that, indeed, trick-or-treating was no easy feat, as you’d explained to him before. he watched you sketch out a map of the isle of sages, rambling to him the importance of how to know which houses were giving out candies just by their exterior, and which were likely giving the best. he had to say, it was fun. he’d like to get used to experiencing this, at least.

— “hold on, so you’ve really never trick-or-treating before?!” you nodded with a somewhat confused smile on your face, unsure of exactly what the big deal was about. since you hadn’t exactly a clue what the deal with halloween week was, deuce had taken the opportunity to explain to you it all, which eventually evolved into his attempt to explain to you what halloween in twisted wonderland was like as a whole. “yeah, it’s not really that big of a thing back in my world, or at least it just went out of popularity, i guess? it just doesn’t really happen anymore, y’know?”

— deuce only let out a sigh of pitiful acceptance, before you continued, “but hey, the halloween discounts were still fun.” you may have just been trying to look on the bright side of your trick-or-treatless life, but from the way deuce’s eyebrow raised by ever the slightest, you could tell it wasn’t exactly a help. his expression lightened back up within just moments passed, though, and asked in a spurred manner that you had half a mind to ask him to repeat himself, “in that case, do you want to try trick-or-treating this year? we can go together!!” you had to think about it for a moment, because you weren’t sure if you had a costume considering that, unlike the other dorms, you didn’t really have a set costume for yourself and you weren’t planning anything.

— but, in response to your worries, deuce reassured you that though admittedly it was less fun, a costume in fact wasn’t necessary to trick-or-treat. actually, at the mention, he began to describe you a year in particular where he was in his younger years, and was so convinced he needed a costume to trick-or-treat, that when he’d forgotten to tell his mom what he wanted for costume and ended up too late, he wore a shopping bag and pretended to be a ghost. you had to admit, it was a rather funny story, and you had fun just imagining the scene described to you. so, in the end, you accepted, and deuce passionately told you that he wouldn’t let you down on your first official halloween.

Not going to bother screenshotting what I'm responding to, but it's in the comments, as before. So.

A lack of deconstruction of my arguments when trying to continue arguing is beautiful. If counterarguments don't bolster your claim (e.g., ...you say that the visual tropes of being "edgy" and "evil" are the same, and fail to realize the fact that I was using "edgy" as an example of one of many interpretations, because believe it or not, there are a shitload of interpretations), don't use them. In which case is to say, please re-evaluate the overall stance, because counterarguments are necessary, but you... have to actually know what you are countering. So.

Fandom evolves. Yes, there was a taste of the harmful evil Jake shit in the beginning, and I was worried as fuck that the show might actually do something to perpetuate that. Frankly, the show wasn't perfect, the responses weren't perfect, but if our focus is "red eye = evil" rather than discussions about how we otherwise accurately treat representation, then settle the fuck down.

Let's deconstruct together, and then maybe it can be actually attempted against me.

Why, if this is not something that exists in canon, is this something that exists in a majority of depictions? Why is this a choice that so many people are making?

There's a good question. I like this. Good to question these things. I'll even do the favor of pretending that "majority" is an intentional hyperbole, rather than making the point that the fandom space you occupy is highlighting by you not liking a certain detail and thus always fixating on that detail.

Why are they doing it?

....Have you... maybe... asked them?

Because I can answer the "why" for several people. Because with questions, you can seek answers. And we haven't actually done that here. We've drawn assumptions, assumed the worst in that people are trying to make him so super duper evil, or assumed people were inadvertently harming a whole community and we have to be the moral arbiters to say "hey that's wrong and it causes [generalized harm] because that looks evil and bad."

Congrats on being the grandstanding Internet citizen.

...Anyway.

Why is the choice so popular? ...Ever heard of headcanons? Fanon-made choices? It happens in literally every fandom ever. Clint's in the vents. Thor loves Pop-Tarts. Steve Rogers is the prank king. They all lived in Avengers Tower. (Using Marvel references only because I imagine those will be the ones most relevant and recognized in this context.)

The fanon makes choices when they see something they think is fun and they like it. Sometimes because it's funny, sometimes because it's cool, sometimes because it's quirky, sometimes because it's feel-good. Fandoms do that. The question of "Is it harmful?" is also a good question, in which case the answer is "No, but lots of people seem to think so because they want to protect systems from hyperviolent claims of always being dangerous or having an Evil Alter, like in Split, you know Split, that caused lots of harm." (Yes, I'm also being generous by mentioning Split. I can go into it later about how a fandom art choice is very different from an international release with award-winning actors and a faux examination into the real disorder, but for now, I will digress.)

Jake is absolutely a violent killer, too, but the red-eyed Jake is overwhelmingly associated with depictions of him being violent. I think it would be disingenuous to say that red-eyed Jake is portrayed in fanart as violent only to the extent that someone like Marc is.

It would be disingenuous, yes, because Jake is canonically the character who dealt with the brunt of many traumas as well and was forced to perform the violent acts Marc couldn't in isolation of having a full, fulfilling life outside those acts of violence. Nobody is arguing that. Or, at least, they shouldn't.

Now. When people engage with that aspect of his identity--which, once again, represents a large majority of his identity by nature of his purpose of protection in the system--and happen to do so with red eyes... that doesn't make the red eye suddenly a problem. Something that isn't a problem in isolation having a tiny detail changed doesn't immediately change the moral value of the entire composition.

And, if we're being nitpicky, there is so much non-violent shit of Jake with his red eye, too. So it's not harmful there, but it is harmful elsewhere because of the pre-existing implication of violence and harm that exists regardless of the red eye? So, "it's fine to draw a red eye, just don't do it when he's violent because that sends a bad message, which otherwise wouldn't exist despite gruesome violence perhaps being depicted and the knowledge that he is an alter in a system, and that violence is only stereotypically evil when that evil red eye gets involved."

It isn't rational.

If you say the red eye is "edgy," then you acknowledge what the visual trope represents.

I already got into this a bit, but I'll just iterate again that "edgy" is one of many interpretations. Things is, people saw some accidental photo mistake of Jake on set where Photoshop or w/e caused the red eye or something, and they ran with it. So it can be also argued that this time it isn't a visual trope, but rather a situational one created in the context of the visual one. Trying to put one meaning behind one of those is hard enough, but when there's an actual origin to it, it's even harder.

But the choice is at best unnecessary and at worse absolutely tied to ableist depictions of him and negative stereotypes of people with DID.

This is pretty clearly the fundamental disconnect. It is what it is. I disagree that they're tied to ableism. People in disagreement take a moral high ground argument under the assumption that they must be right, with the implication, then, that they are above all these people "participating in harm and ableism," as though it isn't even contested that, hey, maybe this isn't ableist and that's just your opinion.

If you think people are only seeking to be offended on the behalf of others, plenty of systems have spoken up for their dislike of the trope. And ableist depictions, even in innocence, can perpetuate harmful stereotype.

Yep. And other systems disagree with that. No one system is a monolith. And, once again, this takes the stance of, "it has already been socially determined that red eyes are ableist to dissociative systems." No, it has not been. And systems can also disagree. That's a thing.

Depicting Jake with a red-eye doesn't automatically make someone ableist or anti-semetic, but it can contribute to things. I think you are more worried about people being labeled as problematic then where the overwhelming use of the red-eye trope is coming from, what it represents, and what idea it advances.

Nah. "It can contribute to things." You mean how society and discourse works generally? How character complexities also work? We've managed to sonder. The additive argument of "too many details makes a wrong eventually I think" is wild. Is it harmful in a direct link? Your argument is perhaps yes. My argument is no. Because red eyes are not linked to oppression against people with dissociative disorders, and even saying "red eye always = evil" is a stretch in itself.

I'm admittedly, not particularly worried about people calling other people problematic on Tumblr, because this is tumblr dot com and nothing here matters. I find it silly and entertaining. I really, really love discourse. I get bored sometimes, and considering I've already in the past made comments on the representation of DID in Moon Knight, I decided to do in some more on a thing that is objectively unimportant.

I also disagree that depicting Jake as more violent than usual (AKA, a bloody unhinged psychopath) is only ever an innocuous choice free of any outside context.

I didn't say that. "More violent than usual" =/= bloody unhinged psychopath. We need to learn to stop conflating things. Objectively, in the canon, he's a hyper-violent character by necessity. Yes, people do depict him (rarely now, but in the beginning a bit more yes) as an unhinged psychopath, but that itself is the problem. Not the red eye. Please.

I'm not making most of the other arguments that you assume, but I can't speak for anyone else who also dislikes the trope.

Techno. He'd handle them a bit better then everyone else. Not as good as you but heisnt very paranoid. He literally runs at the noises trying to get jumpscared. While you run after him telling him to stop because if he doesn't then you'd lose and die. And technoblade never dies.

If you all play together both tommy and wilbur pussy out. Techno last the longest and phil the second longest. While you remain the ruler of horror games.

Now how you all met was dream invited you to the dream smp to add to the chaos. Needless to say it got extremely chaotic due to you being on almost 24 hours. You first ran into techno. He seemed confused and skeptical.

You both found eachothers love for potatoes. You set up camp quote close to techno but not too close.

Phil popped in when he needed something for a build and noticed a new name. Talked to you in chat and asked to join your VC. You both found each other talking for a bit.

Wilbur was next. Wilbur got curious over the new person and just hoppedinto the same VC as you techno and phil. He was quick to realize that you were a famous youtuber. Mainly for your horror videos and your extreme Parkcore skills.

In minecraft that is.

Tommy noticing that all of you were in the same VC joined in with shouting. He was low key jealous that everyone was obsessed with you. Then he saw why.

You literally cracked jokes at his shouting.

"Is that an angry pomeranian? Nah nah. It's an angry child. Even better an angry blonde!" - you.

He was shocked and immediately started joking and laughing with you. He wasn't fully angry for long.

Now about your diet. When they heard that you had only eaten ramen and drank angry drinks they were concerned. You lived quite close to techno so when you guys met up he was shocked that you looked as healthy as you did.

He hated the fact that you literally didn't eat anything else.

You told him occasionally you have something other then ramen but you were just too lazy to really cook anything and that you didn't feel like burning the house down.

One month phil, tommy, wilbur, and techno decided to organize a month long sleep over so that they could celebrate your birthday. Phil being quote the father figure cooked different, but easy dinners every night just so you didn't eat only ramen that day.

When they actually arrived though you got a text from Phil asking about your address in your dms. Not think much of it you just sent him your location.

You were going to take a small nap. Just to bost your energy before you went and streamed later that night.

As you were sleeping there was a car heading to your house.

Phil, wilbur, tommy, and techno were all just existing in the car. And when they arrived to your house they didn't expect to actually see a clean house.

You woke to a loud knock.

When you opened the door in your half dazed state you expected a package. But to see four people standing on your porch.

You nearly jumped out of your skin.

You were stuck there blinking at them.

Finally snapping out of it you let them in. Confused on why in the ever loving fuck they were here.

Phil explained they were here to celebrate your 21st birthday and they were here for a month.

You stared at them for a while. Confused on what to do since you haven't had people over in almost 2 years.

But you got use to it.

So when you got done streaming and smelled something other then ramen you were thrown off guard. Like what was that. I haven't smelled that in years.

But after the second day you got use to it too.

For your birthday phil literally made a feast.

Like he found your favorite food other then ramen and cooked it. With that he prepared everything you could dream of.

Your sleeping habits. Let's dig into those.

I'm in no place to talk as right now it's 3:05 in the morning. And here I am.

But when they are over they don't let you stay up till no 3-4 in the morning. They all know the importance of sleep.

But there are those nights where no once can sleep and it results in a late night stream. And streaming for hours none the less.

The amount of accidental all nighters everyone has pulled was immense. But that's what happens with jet lag, adhd, and insomnia.

Literally you get tired randomly. Sleep for only 3 hours. Wake up. Drink coffee, energy drinks, highly caffeinated tea. And don't sleep till late at night.

Pillow forts.

It's a must and it happens. Horror movies, pillow forts, and snacks. Like you all are in this massive fort, watching horror movies, one by one you all are falling asleep. You and techno were the last up due to technos active mind and your body not letting you sleep.

You two literally just vide there, changing the movies from horror to some silly animated movies, like how to train your dragon, frozen, Luca, and many others.

You two pull an all nighter and it's actually a bet to see how long anyone else takes to notice.

You bet an hour. Techno says all day.

You won. Philza notices the worse eye bags under both you and technos eyes and immediately starts scolding.

He is papa bird and he won't let anyone of his children neglect their needs.

"Did you even drink water at all? You guys should of been sleeping not binge watching horror movies all night!" -philza

You could only offer a smirk, along with a laugh.

"I think we did I just can't fully remember. Also we were watching animated films. Not horror. Surprised you didn't wake up to let it go." - you.

You turn to techno.

"You owe me 15 bucks pig boy!"-you again.

Handing you the money he rolls his eyes. "Yeha yeah. Rub it in." -techno.

Ah yeah they found a horror game that you were scared of surprisingly. It was actually surprisingly you hadn't played it yet.

Outlast.

You had been holding off that game until you finished your other one but here you were. Bored out of your mind.

So you decided fuck it.

That game teriffed the shit out of you. It was so good though.

When you screamed they all came rushing up due to the fact that you never scream.

They say you out of your chair, on the floor, blinking. They thought you were hurt.

But you sat up and looked at your computer.

"Damn. That was actually really good." When you looked behind you and found the boys all staring you smiled and waved.

"You need something?"-you

"You screamed. We heard a thud. We thought you fuckin died!" -tommy.

"No I'm alive. My soul almost divorced my body but it's still quite here."-you

That day made highlights.

The popular y/n actually got jump scared. The one person who never screamed at horror games screamed.

When they left you were sad yes but they were still your best friends. Ready to talk when ever you want.

Sometimes I think that you guys talk all through out the night. Them forgetting that you were actually in a different time zone.

Sometimes they pop into your streams, be it MC, horror, you just talking to your fans, or even the once in the blue moon, cheerful games.

They just pop in and start talking to you. And you talk back like they were there since the beginning.

Phil is now one of your moderators too. Along with tommy, wilbur, and techno. When they pop in they make sure no one picks on you.

And since you are now close to the SBI. You are now part of it.

You didn't choose the fans did. But they are your new family. No matter what.

Even if they disagree with your eating habit.

Or energy drink addiction.

Or insomnia.

Or you mainly playing horror games.

Or you basically living in your streaming room.

Or even the nearly 24 hour streams.

I could go on but I'm not gonna.

I'm tired. But I can sleep. 2 days and I get to have a tour of my new school.

And it took so long to finally get into it.

We have been going through a huge hassle even before school started to get me enrolled.

And then we had to get me into this program.

But now on Monday I get to go in. Get a tour. Then start either Tuesday or Wednesday.
