Concussion - Symptoms, Classification and Recovery
A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) caused by a blow to the head or sudden movement that disrupts brain function. Symptoms include headaches, dizziness, confusion, nausea, and sensitivity to light or noise, with recovery requiring rest, gradual activity resumption, and rehabilitation if needed.

Combined with the posts this links to, this is probably the single most comprehensive post-concussion syndrome resource I've ever seen. It even acknowledges that great as their treatment program is, it might not be accessible to you personally, and so links to other treatment centers they recommend & a post on how to figure out if a concussion treatment center is good. If you or someone you know is suffering from post-concussive syndrome, check this out!

first ambulance shift review: mixed bag! complicated feelings about first responder burnout and lack of labor rights, but also the resulting detachment from caring about individual patients
(additionally, carrying a 50lb backpack up and down 3-8 flights of stairs 6 or 7 times a day is. uh.
muscles i didn’t even know i had are in pain)
#personal#it was clear the crew i was riding with was passionate about their jobs at some point#and part of that was clearly still there#but as someone who wasn’t legally allowed to do more than observe i was rly uncomfortable with the casual dismissal of many of our patients#just because the unhoused guy is dirty and hiv+ doesn’t mean his gasping for air and groaning in pain doesn’t warrant concern#just because we picked up a guy from a holding cell doesn’t mean he doesn’t deserve to be checked for a concussion#anyway i hope i never get that jaded is all i guess#and also i hope i graduate asap so i don’t have to just sit there and hope the people legally allowed to suggest treatments fucking do smth

As an Arabic person who has always supported Palestine, I'm so glad to see that the people behind my favorite Naruto fanfiction is fighting for our cause! Thank you again for your commitment and for your wonderful fanfiction! It's truly amazing to see so many different people caring for Palestine ! (if there's any english mistake, I'm sorry for that lol)
Oh! Thank you so much! I've been thinking about this ask a lot and talking about this stuff is so important. I was so on the fence at first about making non Naruto posts here since it's our delinquent blog, but I honestly think about Palestine every day and I can't keep my mouth shut at this point. I'm so glad that you sent this and I hope that you're doing well! Palestine is very much on my partner and I's thoughts as we observe Ramadan this month. Ramadan Mubarak if you celebrate as well, and thank you so much for enjoying our work!

Talk to teaching students about stroke in adults and toddlers
On November 21 I spoke to another class of Carol Carielli’s students learning to be teachers who had seen “A Stroke Of Endurance”. One student asked if the real professor who “A Stroke Of Endurance” is based on had his stroke in class, and I told them he had the stroke on campus but not during our class. I explained to the student the character in the film and the real professor did have side effects of the stroke that made him dizzy which led to a discussion of other different types of strokes, emergency treatments to stop a stroke, and individuals who had mini strokes and concussions which led to questions about institutional developmental delay, early intervention, Cerebral Palsy and my science essays https://medium.com/@dylanrothbein/how-does-mammal-fetal-development-relate-to-developmental-disability-guest-post-by-margot-8d52475fdaec on Cerebral Palsy like The Moro Reflex https://medium.com/@dylanrothbein/the-moro-reflex-guest-post-by-margot-3d9ccc4758b2 and how the Moro Reflex and gag reflex effect children with Cerebral Palsy and Autism and how some children have both Cerebral Palsy and Autism at the same time. We discussed how teachers must also accommodate parents who have disabilities who have to meet with teachers and access the school buildings.
This post is posted with permission of Professor Carol Carielli.

The soul does not need to exist, because it is made redundant by the structure of the brain, which does everything necessary to animate a body. Ergo, when the brain changes, the person changes. The old one dies.
This isn't a problem. This is normal. People die constantly. They get older, they aren't the same, they die.
A traumatic brain injury is the same, but different. It's a sudden change to the brain instead of a gradual one, and often caused by an accident. It's a violent death instead of a peaceful one.
I am not the same person I was before the concussion. I can't do the same things I used to be able to, and there are new things that I can do that she couldn't, so, for the intents and purposes of being a member of society, I am a different person. A similar, yet significantly worse one, but the person who died was a shining star, so I suppose that makes me normal now.
It's a little bit nice. She died doing what she loved, letting herself get hurt in exchange for adoration. Everyone was looking at her when she died, she finally got what she wanted.
I keep wanting to go back to the place where the concussion happened. I'd bring lilies, to mourn, and peonies, to congratulate her on a performance well done.
#this feels both truthful and false. it's true in one part of my brain and false in the rational part.#oh god. what if i had truly died during that performance?#imagine a world where instead of a mild concussion i just completely died. What if I had left a still corpse on that linoleum tile.#y'know i'd thought i would've died because of some stupid medical issue i didn't get around to seeking treatment for#but accidentally killing myself during a contortion performance because I was weak from teaching myself a new trick that i could show off..#...is really really in-character for my pattern of behavior.#fuck and here i am still either staying up to push myself to do good in school and falling short or beating myself up for getting sleep#maybe the people who i thought of as lazy disappointments are the people i should respect and aspire towards
