Danganronpa Mermaid AU 🐚🌊☠️

This is my Take on the Danganronpa Mermaid AU.

I own my Fangan characters who are shown here.

Plot of concept:

This Danganronpa Mermaid AU takes place in a Modern setting with some classic tropes from mermaid stories that you have already seen.

Each story will explain a different part of the Mermaids trying to make contact with the Humans of this world.

STORY #1 - SAKURA X KENSHIRO FIC.

PLOT:

“This story is similar to the little mermaid with Sakura as Ariel and Kenshiro as the son of an important leader and Junko is the Sea witch who can shapeshift into use magic.”

Character Lore: Story #1

SAKURA OGAMI aka Ariel

Sakura is the granddaughter of the leader of her mermaid group who Trains some of the other Merfolk to be strong fighters against other mermaids and Humans (Who some fear the most.)

Sakura is one of those powerful fighters who wants to be respected by the other Merfolk but her grandfather forbids that she fights due to him being Traditional and all that.

Sakura also doesn't know what happens to her parents who went missing a couple of years ago.

AOI HINA aka Sakuras friend!

Hina is one of Sakuras few friends and she is supportive of Sakura and she wants her to prove her Grandfather wrong and show that a woman can be as strong as a man!

Hina is also supportive of her when Sakura falls in love with Kenshiro and Hina wants Sakura to be happy.

Hina also has a Younger brother name Yuta who wants to be as fast as his older sister!

KENSHIRO aka The Child of an important leader.

Kenshiro is a sickly teen who is usually stuck in his room due to his parents worried for him and don't want him to hurt himself. He is tired of being stuck in one place and wants to get better so he can take over for his parents in the future.

Kenshiro also falls in love with Mermaid Sakura who he first sees when he is sitting on the beach and saw her looking at him behind a large rock.

JUNKO ENOSHIMA aka The Sea Witch!

Junko is the Sea witch who is known for her powerful magic! And can help anyone…For a Price…

Junko is also known for her ability to Shapeshift and her relationship with the Mermaid Fighter Murkuro aka the leader of the Royal guard and Royal army!

ruggie but it was on leona's command. this is also the trial that has 3 possible endings that DON'T end in a game over.

verdict 1: the trial ends convicting ruggie with enough evidence and he gets executed and the game continues onward. and player has a future opportunity to find more evidence of leona's involvement and he is executed later after he is on trial for his 2nd kill (first kill by his own hands)

verdict 2: player finds enough evidence to convict and execute both ruggie and leona.

verdict 3: player finds enough evidence to convict both ruggie and leona. HOWEVER if player raised enough friendship points with ruggie they can defend him in trial and convince the court to let him free and only leona is executed. (ruggie will instead become a future victim within the next 2 chapters/killings)

an au where Kokichi wrote Danganronpa as a comic in collage with all his peers as the characters should be a proper au

bro wanted to make a comic for the internet to enjoy and went "hey these fuckos in my classes are wild enough to make characters out of, let's pit them against one another in a killing game", made functionally caricatures of a handful of said fuckos, came up with the concept of ultimates for extra zest, and shat out a comic series that the internet ate up

for THH he never asked any of them, he just used their personalities as bases and gave them anime makeovers and new last names so people wouldn't notice they were based on real people. for the second game it was a mix of doing the same thing for some characters, and actually asking the inspos for others because he actually liked these people. and for V3 he asked everybody because Shuichi- love of his life- wouldn't let him keep not asking people..... this resulted in his self insert because Kaito would only agree if Kokichi also added himself

after this Kokichi just kinda decided he was tired of making ronpa and fucked up the ending of V3 so it couldn't continue and ditched it. and unlike Kodaka he ain't caving later and trying to make ronpa with extra steps- no if he makes another comic ever again it's going to be something way out of left field like clown body horror or something

also just- Kokichi being a young idiot solo writing and drawing it as a hobby would also give a much more acceptable explanation for all the rough fuckery with it, both story and art wise

I don't if you consume a lot of this sort of content, but do you have any Mikan-centric recommendations? Specifically fanfics/things on AO3 so I can put them in my Mikan collection, but comics would be fine as well. I'm fine with any ship also—I specifically really want works that deal with either Mikan and Junko's relationships or Mikan's relationships with the rest of the remnants! But I'm pretty much fine with any Mikan content. I have a Mikan collection that needs more work! Though it's fine if you don't have anything to recommend, too; I'm not sure how big on reading fanfic you are versus writing it (her smile is the sun is one of my favorite fanfics ever btw). Just was wondering if you had any Mikan centric recommendations!

Okay so this fic is LONG, and it’s Makoto-centric, since it's 90% his pov in an au where he’s kidnapped by Remnant Komaeda in the middle of Despair Era. However Mikan’s dynamic with Makoto and the other remnants is a prominent feature, and I remember really enjoying her in this fic!

Might not be your thing if you’re looking for a darker, canon-compliant exploration of Mikan and Junko relationship, since all their fics are non-abusive Junkan, but I do love their writing style, and their fics are really fun! I’d recommend giving them a shot!

Okay it’s been a while since I read this one BUT I love all of op’s danganronpa works, and so I trust it completely! It’s post canon, and focuses on a still despair-filled Mikan’s recovery with the help of her classmates! So exploration of both Mikan’s relationships with them and Junko!

There's Something Wrong With Mikan Tsumiki - Chapter 1 - RedPen - Super Dangan Ronpa 2 [Archive of Our Own]

Obligatory ‘There’s something wrong with Mikan Tsumuki’ rec because all of Redpen’s remnant fics are SO good and everyone needs to read all of them. Premise is that after Hajime also gets Despair Disease, Fuyuhiko stays at the hospital overnight instead, and tries to prevent any murders! This is mostly Fuyuhiko’s pov but one of the chapters IS Mikan's pov and I just love her perspective and general creepiness in this!

Also obligatory rec of one of my own fics! Each chapter is a different direction specific remnants could have gone in! Mikan features a lot in the first chapter, and chapter 6 is fully a Mikan chapter, with the concept of her having birthed Junko’s child during the apocalypse! It focuses a lot on her dynamics with Hajime and Izuru during and post Despair Era, and I really enjoyed writing it!

Another one of mine whoops, but this is basically the funeral the About-to-become-Remnants give to Junko, and Mikan is a pretty noticeable figure in it!

Took me forever to find this fic again but this is one of my absolute fav Mikan oneshots!! It’s post canon, and concentrates on her dynamic with Komaeda and her former relationship with Junko. Really love how op tackles her own self-hate, and her continuous struggles with escaping Despair.

Anyway, that's all I can remember for now, but anyone can feel free to add more recs in reblogs or comments! I'm always happy to add to my repertoire of Remnant related fics :)

I know there’s like no mind eating body destroying parasites in ronpa, but the idea of a some kind of “disease” that corrupts people’s minds and makes them reliant on one person (like in resident 4) still exists.

Oh and the body horror, and grim atmosphere��. Damn I would really like that AU.

She’s right there when he wakes up, hidden in the shadows and waiting patiently. 

She’s there when the pod signals that its occupant finally gained consciousness, she’s there when its upper part lifts, releasing a cloud of stream rushing out of it. She’s there when a small moan slips out from his lips and she’s there when he draws a shaky breath, his eyes fluttering open only to squint when the light reaches them for the first time in weeks. 

As expected, he’s disoriented and lost, looking around weakly, unable to even lift his head after such a long time, his muscles weakened and sluggish. 

“Hello, Ouma-kun,” she greets him sweetly, leaving her place among the shadows and entering his field of vision. His eyes widen slightly, some kind of recognition flashing across his face. 

“Ah, so you remember me,” she smiles. “Good, good. It would be plainly unacceptable for you to forget. That makes things so much easier.”

Ouma blinks at her slowly, confusion painted on his delicate features, dark bruises coating the pale skin under his eyes. 

Shirogane pounces at him before he has a chance to as much as open his mouth, her long, cold fingers wrapping around his throat easily until he lets out a choked up gasp, his eyes widening. He urges his limbs to react but they don’t listen and he remains motionless underneath the pressure of her body laying on top of him. 

“You ruined everything,” she hisses into his ear, her teal eyes gleaming maliciously in the dark room, mouth twisted in a snarl. “You ruined my game and now I’m gonna ruin you.”

His vision begins to sway, black dots dancing before his eyes as his lungs start to burn, his arms twitching uselessly at his sides, useless and forgotten. He opens his mouth but no sound leaves it. Shirogane smiles cruelly above him, baring her teeth and leaning in closer until he can feel the long strands brushing against his pale cheeks and her breath ghosting over his lips. 

“How does it feel, Ouma-kun?” she asks mockingly, her grip on his throat loosening, as if she’s expecting him to respond. “You came so close to winning my little game. Really, I should blame myself… I made you, after all. Even I didn’t expect you would come that far, though. You see, the original script had you die in chapter four but there was some hiccup and, well, you know how it went,” she babbles, half of the words not registering in his brain as her grip loosens enough for him to draw a choked up breath, an ugly gurgling sound tearing itself out of his throat as he struggles to remember how to breath, the burning in his chest unbearable. 

Shirogane observes his struggle emotionlessly, the same way one would observe an ant right before reaching for a magnifying glass. Humming quietly, she reaches out to brush her fingers against his stained with tears cheek, a gesture almost tender. 

“Actually, I think I changed my mind,” she murmurs softly, deep in thought. “There are better ways to get revenge.”

As soon as Shuuichi is insidehis apartment, he crashes on the couch. He doesn’t set the door chain afterclosing it, he doesn’t turn the lights on, he doesn’t even take his hat,jacket, or shoes off. He just falls face first onto worn brown leather. Todaywas extremely long; he doesn’t want to move for the rest of hislife after all that running back and forth required for the currentinvestigation. Who knew affairs could get this messy? No more of that today.He’s just going to rest, even if the way his nose is pressed up against theupholstery is increasingly uncomfortable.

Buzz. His phone, pressed somewhere between his side and the back of the couch vibrates from his jacket pocket. Ugh what now? It better not be his uncle telling him to come back to the office or he’ll cry. A sigh, and he rolls over to his side, fumbling in the dark to take his phone out of his pocket.

Quickly he hits the power button, greeted with a message request. That’s weird...He hasn’t really used this website despite making a profile on Akamatsu-san’s request. At most he just scrolls through whatever updates his friends make without making much of his own. He hasn’t even bothered setting his profile picture, so it’s still a default. Who could it be? Click.

Great, the bots have found me. It’s a weird username for a bot though, although he’s heard the rumor of bots taking over dead accounts. Is this a sign his own account is about to die? Eh, probably not. He’s pretty sure you have to delete for that to happen. Does he talk? Don’t I have anything better to do? Apparently not, because he’s responding anyway.

acedetective0: surprised you can tell. no picture after all.

Speaking of which...Shuuichi squints at the small icon near the bot’s username. Why does that picture look familiar? Something about that blue pinstripe button down...is that my shirt? Don’t I have a shirt like that?

The bot of course, continues on oblivious, but Shuuichi has other concerns. Clicking on the image takes him to the profile. Shockingly, most of the account is set to private, which is pretty weird for a bot. He’s seen the bots his friends get, and usually they’re not given any privacy setting changes, because the goal is to generate as much traffic as possible. Very weird.

clownprince69: how are you? :)

He hasn’t even said anything, and he’s being asked the same thing again? That’s not typical bot behavior either, Shuuichi thinks. Maybe this is just a person, pretending to be a bot. That or this is a really badly designed bot. 

acedetective0: you’re pretty impatient for someone new.

And also too good at messing with privacy settings for the same reasons, but he keeps that to himself.

clownprince69: hahaha, that’s hilarious. anyway so I wanna show you something cool, you in?

Not really. Honestly, he’s still distracted by that picture. It’s too weird. Overly familiar. The shirt, the blue tie, the hint of black suit pants....isn’t this an outfit he owns? Didn’t he wear that when Akamatsu-san had him pose as her date at that one piano recital she had a few months back? This isn’t just a weird coincidence, right? Isn’t it? Shuuichi frowns. There’s one way to check.

He clicks the picture opening it fullscreen, before heading over to Instagram, aka the social media he uses the least. But he’s not really looking at his page; he’s looking at Akamatsu-san’s. She’s an active user, and if anyone took a picture of him that night and uploaded it, it’d be her. Scrolling...scrolling...scrolling....“Aha!” Found it.

pianofreak: i keep telling him he looks fine, but he won’t stop adjusting his tie lol @acedetective0

It’s a picture of him adjusting his tie with a small frown. He remembers complaining that she posted it, but she waved it off saying that all the likes on are proof he looks just fine, so he let it go. He didn’t think it would come back up again, it’s been months after all, so he forgot about it. And yet—

He quickly switches between Akamatsu-san’s upload, and the profile photo of the bot. Other than the obviously hasty crop job cutting out his face, it’s the exact same picture. The same tie-adjusting pose, the same crisp button up hanging over the same black suit pants from the same 3/4 angle. Guess he wasn’t quite done playing detective today after all. 

But he’s not finished just yet. He still needs to settle it with the ‘bot.’

acedetective0: sure, if I can show you something first.

clownprince69: oooo let me see! I love cool things!

“Got you,” he says, sitting up on the couch with a small grin.

For a minute, there’s no response, just a read receipt. And then finally—

Didn’t disappoint huh? So this was a planned thing. Explains why the profile was set to that degree of private. Shuuichi suspects this is actually just someone’s regular account, but they can’t troll so well if all their details are in public. But that just raises the next question.

acedetective0: why did you do this?

acedetective0: not really. I think most people would recognize something they posted.

He’s still hasn’t changed out of his work clothes at all.The lights are off, the door’s closed—a half hour ago he was probably going to just sleep on this couch until he woke up at some unholy hour desperatelyhungry. But he’s not so tired anymore. If anything, he’s kind of interested.

acedetective0: sure. what game?

Well? Is he? If Shuuichi’s being honest, this sounds kind of fun. Maybe it’s just because he’s always enjoyed a mystery, and here one is, freely presenting itself as a challenge. Or maybe it’s just because this was the first amusing thing that’s happened all day. Or maybe it’s because despite his quip earlier, he could use some more friends himself. Maybe it’s all three.

Grinning a little to himself, Shuuichi eagerly replies.
