today i built my very own computer for the first time! I'm going to call her Nausicaa because she's basically a wind tunnel. she boots and bios detects everything, but tomorrow i still need to format drives, install OSes, set up the monitor, pick some nice colours for the rgb, etc etc. - not to mention take some better photos in daylight...
but you guys... I'm already so happy that she works! this is the first time I've ever had a really high end computer and i can't wait to see what she can do...
for fans of cryptic letters and numbers:
amd 7950X3D cpu, 4070Ti gpu, b650e-i mini-ITX mobo, fractal torrent nano case, the giant cpu cooler is a "deepcool assassin", she has 64gb of ddr5 ram, 4tb of ssd capacity (windows and linux each get 2tb), plus 8tb of spinning backup storage. the monitor is a 1440p ultrawide 144Hz VA HDR monitor by Dell. here's a full parts list.

— 6 january 2024
today i completely finished my pc, and it looks so lovely! i’m so proud of it and how it turned out. temps are great and she runs like a dream. i added a photo of it to the post, and i think i’ll start to add photos to all my posts to just make my profile less boring! besides that, i drank with my roomies and one of my friends, and that’s all.
3 things i’m grateful for:
our liquor collection.
friends.
my decorating skills.
— love, lisa.

Every day, the orctop gets worse and worse. The screen is now held together by duct tape. I don't know what to do now except make it a case.

This was the PC I used for a year, the cpu fan was broken and would vibrate the entire desk whenever I played a video game
My previous PC was called "The Goblin" because I found its case in a dumpster and had to close one of the sides with cardboard and duct tape

Testing the Capability of Nightmare (my desktop self build)
If you've ever used Daz Studio, you know that it is both a resource hog, and can take up hours to days rendering an image with more than 2-3 people, a large scene, or really shiny objects... Well, I decided to put my self build to the test today and started this picture.
It is an Ultra HD (3840px x 2160 px and 300 ppi), has 5 models (3 of which are Genesis 8, the other two are Genesis 9), plus the "Shopping Street" from Daz3D. Normally, I would've downsized the scene by removing some of the buildings that you can't see, but this time I didn't. This is how it's going:
And yes, I am crazy and have it rendering to 99% coverage and have the render quality jacked up to 5. For those unfamiliar with the program, Daz is normally set to run to 95% coverage and 1 render quality for faster rendering. It's already been going for 14 hours and is only on a mere 7%. At this rate, it will definitely clock out at the Max time which is 259,200 seconds or 72 hours/3 days as it's going at about 1/2 a percent per hour.
For those curious about what I'm running:
Nvidia 3060 TI 8GB Graphics card
128 GB Ram (3200hz) (4 - 32 GB sticks)
i9 CPU
ASUS Z590 motherboard
1TB SDD
8TB HDD
I built this PC in 2021 and just doubled the RAM last month. I'll drop the full picture on my Update Blog on Saturday!
