We for Education Welfare Society is thrilled to share our latest project: installing bird feeders crafted from recycled plastic waste to nourish our birds. This impactful initiative is made possible by our wonderful donor, 8-year-old Prisha Gupta from San Jose, California. Her generosity helps us support both wildlife and environmental sustainability.

Mayor of London announces new funding to help communities tackle hate and extremism

The Mayor of London has pledged a new investment of £875,000 to support community projects that are aimed at tackling extremism, hate, intolerance and radicalisation.   This latest grassroots funding marks the fourth year of the Mayor’s Shared Endeavour Fund and will provide assistance to 25 projects across London, which will deliver workshops and educational activities to empower 30,000 Londoners of all ages to challenge racist and hateful views in their communities.   According to the Home Office, the latest figures show an increasing number of younger people are being radicalised by extremist views, with police forces across the country arresting 32 children and teenagers under the age of 17 in 2022 for terror offences - the highest on record.   The Mayor's latest funding initiative is timely, as violent extremism remains one of the biggest threats facing many cities worldwide. In the last 12 months, there have been 166 counter-terrorism arrests across the UK, and eight late-stage terror attacks have been foiled by police and security services. Furthermore, Counter Terrorism Policing and MI5 are currently engaged in more than 800 investigations across the country, with a large proportion of these in London.   The Mayor’s support for grassroots efforts to combat hate and radicalisation now totals a record £3m, which is more than any previous Mayor has provided. Introducing forest school for grown ups at @blackberrybarndevon We are offering an opportunity to explore Bushcraft skills and ancient technologies in a relaxed environment, adding in elements of witchcraft (from yours truly) play and supporting mental health. These sessions are so peaceful. Something we struggle to priorities as adults. There is no pressure to produce. My contribution to the @leeds_tarot project… The Leeds Tarot Card Project is a collaboration that I found particularly inspiring. Firstly, because it is a community project, bringing artists together in our city - and there are many talented people in the creative hub that is Leeds. Secondly, because I have always been interested in the tarot - from a young age, I had people around me who did readings, and as a child, I was sceptical but intrigued. A few years ago, I made a painting of The Hanged Man, with a view to making the whole deck. I’m not entirely sure when I would have found the time to do this, with the amount of plates I always have spinning, so when I heard about this collaborative project to create a deck, I was very happy to be asked to contribute. I considered a painting for this, but it has been difficult for me to get in the studio for the amount of time I needed, whereas a digital piece I could work on easily at home. Indeed, the past year has been a difficult one for most of us. I’ve had various struggles to overcome, both due to the pandemic and because of outside factors, and when I was given The Ten of Swords, I felt it was pertinent. This is not an entirely negative card, though.
