I’m starting to learn that my first apple pen lasting like 5-6 years may have been something of a fluke, for fucks sake
Though I suppose also have the earlier gen iPad which has the stupidest charging method ever devised instead of just sticking to the rectangle and absorbing its life force
But SOMEONE made the second gen pens not COMPATIBLE with my OLD DOG of an ipad

“Bet you look good in that suit.” You say, tapping on your keyboard, hacking into the security cameras of the seedy casino where the deal was taking place.
Logan huffed, covertly adjusting the small earpiece as he blended in with the crowd of the dimly lit casino. His tuxedo felt too tight, but then again, it wasn’t like he was made for fancy suits and shiny shoes.
“Don’t go gettin’ all sentimental, Phantom. This thing barely fits,” he muttered, keeping his voice low and steady. He glanced around, taking in the sight of gamblers, dealers, and a few shifty-looking men gathered near a corner. Probably the ones he was here for.
“Must be hard to hide all those muscles,” you teased through the comm, your voice a steady whisper in his ear. “But I’ll try not to distract you, just this once.”
A ghost of a smile tugged at his lips as he slipped past a group of laughing tourists. He scanned the room, zeroing in on his target: a short, balding man with an expensive suit and a smug look on his face. Logan’s senses sharpened. He could practically smell the guy’s nervous sweat. This had to be one of the trafficking ring’s major players.
“Any idea where they’re at?” he asked, his tone shifting from playful to serious in an instant.
“Second floor. Private poker room,” you said, enlarging one of the camera feeds to get a better view. “Security’s tighter up there. You’ll need a distraction if you wanna get past those guards.”
Logan glanced at the stairway leading up. Two burly men stood in front, arms crossed, eyes scanning for any sign of trouble. “Can’t just slice my way through ‘em,” he grumbled. “What’ve you got for me, Phantom?”
Patience,” you teased. “Trust me, I’m working on it.” You typed a few more commands, initiating a loop in the security feed of the second-floor hallway. “You’ve got a 30-second window. Move now.”
Logan didn’t need to be told twice. He slipped through the casino floor, dodging between slot machines and card tables until he reached the base of the stairwell. The guards barely glanced his way as he strolled past, looking for all the world like another high-roller with a chip on his shoulder.
“Almost too easy,” he muttered under his breath, taking the steps two at a time.
“I make it look easy,” you corrected, monitoring the shifting feeds as Logan made his way to the second floor. “Just keep moving. The loop’ll hold, but not for long.”
Logan reached the hallway, his eyes narrowing at the closed door leading to the poker room. He slowed his pace, ears straining to pick up any sounds on the other side. “Tell me you’ve got eyes in there.”
“Not yet, working on it,” you said. “This system’s layered, gonna take a sec.”
Logan let out a quiet growl. “Great. No pressure or anything.”
“Hey, if you’re in such a hurry, I could always—”
“Don’t,” he cut in. “Just—stay on it.” He pressed his back to the wall, inching closer to the door, waiting for your go.
There was a pause, and then, “Got it.” Your voice softened, like you were focusing extra hard. “Four guys in there. Three playing cards, one pacing by the window.”
“Let me guess,” Logan grunted. “The bald one’s pacing.”
“Bingo.”
Logan’s fingers flexed, the subtle urge to unsheathe his claws growing. But this was a delicate operation. No bloodshed if it could be helped.
“You’ve got any ideas how to get me in without turnin’ this into a brawl?” he asked, half-expecting you to come up with something clever.
“I’ve got a couple,” you replied, a smile evident in your tone. “But you won’t like them.”
Logan sighed. “Why do I feel like you’re about to mess with me?”
“Oh, I wouldn’t dream of it,” you said sweetly, then paused. “Okay, maybe a little. There’s a closet down the hall to your left. Go there.”
He frowned but did as you instructed, slipping into the darkened space, filled with cleaning supplies and boxes. “Now what?”
“Well, I could trigger a fire alarm, but that’s a little loud and obvious. Or, and hear me out, I could disrupt the air conditioning. Make it so hot in there they’ll be begging for an excuse to step outside.”
Logan chuckled under his breath. “That’s your big plan? Make ‘em sweat?”
“Worked on you, didn’t it?” you teased.
“Funny.” He shook his head, glancing at the vent above him. “Think they’ll all leave?”
“Probably not all at once, but it should get the ball rolling. Just be ready. I’ll handle the rest.” Your fingers flew over the keys again, tapping into the building’s climate control system.
After a moment, you heard Logan’s quiet grunt. “Feels like it’s workin’ already.”
“Yeah, I see the temp rising in their room.” You pulled up the camera feed again, watching as one of the guys at the table tugged at his collar, then another wiped at his brow.
“Ten bucks says Mr. Baldy cracks first,” you said, amused.
Logan smirked. “You’re on.”
Not even a minute passed before the bald man swore, yanked off his suit jacket, and threw it on the back of his chair. “I’m stepping out for some air,” you heard him mutter to the others.
Logan’s eyes flicked to the door, his body tense. “Here we go.”
As the door opened, Logan moved fast. He grabbed the guy, pulling him into the closet before he could make a sound. With a quick, non-lethal chokehold, the guy slumped to the ground unconscious. Logan checked his pulse—alive. Good.
“Nice work,” you whispered in his ear. “Bet he’s not going to wake up happy.”
Logan crouched down, frisking the guy’s pockets. “Let’s hope he’s got something useful on him,” he muttered.
“He’s got a keycard,” you said, watching the screen as Logan pulled out the small plastic card. “That should get you into the back office.”
Logan glanced down at the unconscious man. “You were right. I didn’t like your plan.”
You laughed softly through the comms. “You’ll get over it. Now go, before they notice their friend’s gone.”
Logan straightened up, giving the unconscious man one last look before slipping out of the closet. “You better have a plan for what’s next, Phantom.”
“I always do,” you said, smirking as you pulled up the building’s blueprints. “Just follow my lead. Take the hall to your right. There’s an access door near the end. It’ll get you closer to the office.”
Logan moved quickly, the soft thud of his footsteps barely audible. “You sure about this? That door doesn’t look like it’s meant for guests.”
“I’m sure,” you replied confidently. “It’s an employee access. You’ve got the keycard, remember?”
He grunted in response, holding the card up to the reader. The door unlocked with a faint beep. “You really do make this look easy.”
“I try,” you said, voice laced with amusement. “Now, once you’re inside, there’s a small hallway. You’ll want to hang a left, then a quick right. The office is at the end.”
Logan opened the door, slipping into the narrow hallway. “What’s the deal with this office? Anything I should know?”
“Could be where they’re stashing data on the trafficking network. Either that or it's where they’re counting money.” You were typing again, eyes scanning multiple camera feeds. “But I’ve got a good feeling about this.”
“Good feelin’, huh?” Logan muttered, carefully making his way through the corridor. “Hope that feelin’ is worth something.”
“It always is,” you shot back playfully. “You’ve got about a minute before someone notices the guy you knocked out is missin’. So… chop, chop.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Logan growled, reaching the door to the office. “And you said I was the impatient one.”
Before you could respond, he swiped the keycard again and pushed the door open. Inside, the room was dimly lit, filled with filing cabinets, a desk cluttered with paperwork, and a few old-looking computers. Logan’s nose twitched at the faint scent of stale cigarettes and cologne.
“Jackpot,” you whispered in his ear, pulling up the feed of the room. “There should be a terminal near the desk. Get me plugged in, and I’ll handle the rest.”
Logan looked over at the outdated equipment and scowled. “This stuff’s ancient. Hope you can work with it, Phantom.”
“Please, I’ve hacked worse,” you said, brushing off the concern. “Just get me connected.”
Logan knelt down, finding a small port on the side of the computer and pulling out a cable from his gear. As soon as he plugged it in, your fingers danced across the keyboard, breaking through layers of security.
“There we go,” you murmured. “This’ll take a second. How are things on your end?”
Logan stood back up, glancing around the room. “Quiet. For now.”
“Good, because I’ve got eyes on another guy heading your way,” you warned. “He’s probably checking in on his boss. You might wanna handle him before he stumbles on Baldy.”
Logan’s fists clenched. “Great. Any more good news?”
“Depends. You want the good news or the bad news first?” you asked lightly, your tone casual despite the urgency of the situation.
“Just spit it out.”
“Good news? I’m almost done here. Bad news? You’ve got about thirty seconds before that guy reaches you.”
Logan let out a low growl. “Any suggestions?”
“Well,” you said thoughtfully, “you could go for subtle and knock him out—again. Or you could do the Logan thing and scare the crap out of him.”
Logan smirked. “And here I thought you were gonna say ‘no bloodshed.’”
“I’m flexible,” you teased. “Your call.”
Logan moved toward the door, listening carefully. The approaching footsteps were getting closer. “I’ll try subtle,” he muttered. Then, almost as an afterthought, “for you.”
“Aw, how sweet,” you quipped. “I’ll be sure to remember this moment.”
He cracked the door open just as the guy turned the corner. Logan grabbed him by the collar, yanking him into the room before he could shout. A quick punch to the gut, and the guy doubled over, gasping for air. Logan pressed him against the wall, one hand firmly over his mouth.
“Stay quiet, and I won’t hurt you,” Logan growled, his tone low and threatening.
The guy’s eyes widened, and he gave a shaky nod. Logan let him go, and he slumped to the floor, half-conscious.
“Nice work,” you praised, your voice a soft murmur in his ear. “You’ve still got it.”
“Didn’t lose it,” Logan muttered, stepping over the guy and returning to the desk. “You done yet?”
“Just about,” you said. “And… there. I’ve got everything. You’re good to go.”
Logan disconnected the cable, glancing around the room once more. “And you’re sure this’ll help us track the ring?”
“Positive,” you replied confidently. “Now, get out of there before someone else shows up.”
Logan took one last look at the unconscious man on the floor. “You got a clear path for me?”
“Always,” you said, your fingers flying over the keys again. “Head back the way you came. I’ll loop the cameras again. And don’t worry, I’ll keep them busy downstairs.”
Logan smirked as he stepped back into the hallway. “Sometimes I forget how useful you are.”
“Only sometimes?” you teased.
He chuckled softly. “Don’t push your luck, Phantom.”
You smiled to yourself, watching the feeds as Logan made his way through the building. “Whatever you say, Logan. You owe me one.”
“Add it to the list,” he said, his voice gruff but laced with a hint of amusement.
“Believe me, I am.” You took a bite of your cake, an orange cardamom one you made the other day.
“The hell are you doin’?” Logan asked.
You shrugged, “I’m eatin’. Thought now was a better time than ever. Let’s my fingers have a break. Got a problem, Wolf?” you ask, taking another bite of your cake, your tone teasing through the comm.
Logan’s voice grumbled in your ear, low and irritated. "We're in the middle of a mission, and you’re havin’ dessert?"
"Hey, a girl’s gotta eat," you reply casually, wiping a few crumbs off your keyboard. "I’ve earned it. You’re lucky I’m not eating popcorn with the way this operation’s going. Besides, I’m the one doing the hard work behind the scenes, remember?"
"You’re sittin’ in front of a computer, Phantom," Logan shot back, though you could hear the faintest trace of a smirk in his voice. "Not exactly the front lines."
"Exactly. Where would you be without me?" you retort, savoring another bite of cake. "I’m the reason you’re not punching your way through the entire casino right now."
Logan stayed quiet for a beat. You could imagine him clenching his jaw, trying to decide whether to argue or just let you have your moment. "You done?"
You chuckle softly, leaning back in your chair. "For now. You make it out of there yet?"
"Almost," Logan muttered, his voice low as he moved through the hall. "Place is still crawling with these scumbags. Any chance you can keep ‘em distracted?"
"Already ahead of you," you said, your fingers flying over the keyboard again. "Looping the feeds, and I’ve got a little surprise coming for the main floor. Keep your eyes open."
Logan grunted in response, his boots making soft thuds as he crept through the back corridors. "Surprise, huh? What kind of surprise?"
"You’ll see," you said cryptically, unable to hide the amusement in your tone.
There was a pause before Logan spoke again, quieter this time. "You always this chatty during missions?"
You tilted your head, curious. "Depends on who I’m working with. Some people are all business, no fun. Others… well, they don’t mind a little conversation. Keeps things from getting too tense."
"Huh," Logan responded, noncommittal. But then, after another beat, he added, "Guess it ain’t so bad."
Your eyebrows shot up. "Was that a compliment? Did Wolverine just say something nice?"
"Don’t push it, Phantom," Logan growled, but there was a hint of a smile in his voice.
You grinned to yourself, pleased that you’d gotten under his skin a little. "Alright, alright. I’ll stop before you start getting sentimental on me."
Logan was quiet for a moment, then muttered, "Not much chance of that."
Before you could reply, you heard footsteps in the feed, heading in Logan’s direction. Your tone shifted, all business now. "Logan, hold up. Someone’s coming your way, about twenty feet ahead."
"Great," he grumbled, already moving to the side, pressing himself into the shadows.
You watched the camera feed, tracking the figure’s movement. "Wait… looks like it’s just one guy. Should be easy to handle."
Logan’s low growl rumbled through the comm. "Easy for you to say."
You rolled your eyes, but your focus stayed on the screen. "You’re Wolverine. You’ll be fine. Just make sure he doesn’t see you."
A few seconds passed, and then you heard a soft thud. Logan’s voice came back through the comm, sounding slightly breathless. "Handled."
"See? Told you. Easy," you said smugly.
Logan didn’t respond right away, probably too busy moving again. You kept your eyes on the security feeds, tracking his progress. Finally, you heard his voice, a little softer this time. "Thanks."
Your fingers paused over the keys. "For what?"
"For not gettin’ in the way," he said, almost gruffly, but you could tell he meant it.
You smiled, a warm feeling spreading through your chest. "Anytime, Wolf."
There was a brief silence, and then Logan cleared his throat. "So, you gonna tell me what this surprise is, or you just keepin’ me in the dark?"
You leaned forward, grinning. "Oh, right. Almost forgot. Check the main floor in about… five seconds."
Logan didn’t say anything, but you imagined him looking around suspiciously. Then, just as you’d planned, the lights in the main casino flickered before the fire alarms started blaring. You heard Logan’s quiet chuckle through the comm.
"That your idea of subtle?"
"I prefer ‘effective,’" you said, watching as the casino patrons started panicking, scrambling for the exits. "Should give you the distraction you need to get out clean."
Logan let out a low laugh. "I’ll give you that, Phantom. You make one hell of a distraction."
"Flattery will get you nowhere," you teased, though you couldn’t help the slight flush creeping up your neck. "Now hurry up and get out of there before someone starts putting two and two together."
"On it," Logan muttered, the sound of the alarm still faint in the background as he made his way out. "I’m guessin’ you already got us an exit plan?"
You leaned back in your chair, tapping your fingers against the desk. "I wouldn’t leave you hanging like that. Side door, west end of the building. You’ve got about three minutes before the cops show up."
Logan moved swiftly, his footsteps barely audible now. "You really are somethin’ else, y’know that?"
You smirked. "I’ve heard that once or twice."
As Logan slipped through the side door, you watched him disappear from the building’s cameras, your job mostly done. “You’re clear. Ricky wants you to meet him tomorrow morning, 8 sharp for a debrief.”
Logan let out a short grunt. “Ricky, huh? Great. I’ll bring donuts.”
You smiled, rolling your eyes even though he couldn’t see you. “You could at least try to pretend you’re not completely over these meetings.”
Logan’s voice crackled through the comm, rough but with a hint of humor. “I’m over a lotta things, Phantom. Meetin’s just one of ‘em.”
You leaned back in your chair, stretching out your arms. “Well, don’t be late. You know how Ricky gets when he’s kept waitin’.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Logan muttered. There was a pause, and then, “What about you? You gonna be there?”
You raised an eyebrow, surprised at the question. “You think I just show up to these things? I’m the behind-the-scenes tech genius, remember? My job’s done.”
Logan huffed. “Yeah, well… guess I figured after all this time, I’d finally meet the mystery hacker.”
There was something in his voice—something almost like curiosity—but you brushed it off with a light laugh. “Aw, are you saying you miss me already, Wolf?”
“Don’t push it,” Logan shot back, though there was a playful edge to his words. “Just seems weird, is all. Workin’ together this long and never even met you face-to-face.”
You paused for a moment, considering his words. It was weird. You’d been guiding Logan through missions for months now, your voices constantly in each other’s ears, but you had never been in the same room. A part of you liked it that way—it kept things professional, detached. Safer. But another part of you… well, maybe you were curious too.
“Maybe one day,” you said lightly, dodging the subject. “But for now, I think it’s better this way. Keeps the mystery alive, right?”
Logan snorted. “Yeah, real mysterious. You sittin’ there eatin’ cake while I’m out here doin’ the heavy liftin’.”
You smirked. “It’s called multitasking, Logan. I’m sure you’ve heard of it.”
Before he could respond, a soft beep on your computer alerted you that the building’s security systems were coming back online. The loop you’d created was about to end.
“Looks like my window’s closing,” you said, typing a few last commands. “Everything’s going back to normal on their end. You’re officially off the radar.”
“Good. Was gettin’ sick of the place anyway,” Logan muttered. You could hear the sound of traffic now, indicating he was out on the street. “You sure you don’t wanna show up tomorrow?”
“Why?” you asked, amused. “So you can finally see if I really do eat cake during all your missions?”
Logan grumbled something under his breath. “Yeah, somethin’ like that.”
You hesitated, your fingers hovering over the keyboard. Meeting him in person… it’d be a big step. The dynamics between you two would change. And honestly, you weren’t sure if that was a good idea. But at the same time, a part of you was curious about the man behind the gruff voice and dry humor.
“We’ll see,” you said, keeping your tone light. “But don’t hold your breath, Wolf.”
Logan was quiet for a second before he let out a low chuckle. “Wasn’t plannin’ on it. See you around, Phantom.”
With that, the line went dead, and you leaned back in your chair, staring at the screen. You could still hear Logan’s voice in your head, and for a moment, you wondered what it’d be like to finally meet him. But then you shook the thought away, focusing back on your monitors.
It was safer this way. Easier. Less complicated.
But as you closed down your systems for the night, a small, nagging part of you couldn’t help but wonder if you’d ever get the chance to see the man behind the voice.
---
The next morning, you found yourself up earlier than usual, sipping coffee and thinking about Logan’s mission. You knew he was already at the debrief with Ricky, probably sitting there with that irritated look on his face. The thought made you smile.
You were in the middle of pulling up some new data on the trafficking ring when your phone buzzed with a message.
Logan: Missin’ you at this meeting. Ricky’s talkin’ my ear off.
You blinked at the screen, surprised. You weren’t expecting a text from Logan, let alone one like that. He wasn’t usually the type to check in.
You: I’m sure you’re handling it like a pro. Should I send donuts as a peace offering?
His reply came almost immediately.
Logan: Yeah, make it two dozen.
You snorted into your coffee, shaking your head.
You: I’ll see what I can do. How’d the debrief go?
There was a pause before Logan replied.
Logan: Fine. Got another mission lined up. They want you back on comms. Same setup.
Your fingers hesitated over the keys before you typed back.
You: Guess that means you’re stuck with me a little longer, huh?
Logan: Could be worse.
You smiled to yourself, a warm feeling spreading through your chest. It was a small thing, but the fact that Logan had reached out to you, even if it was just to complain about a meeting, felt like progress.
You: Just let me know when you’re ready for another round, Wolf. I’ll be there.
Logan: Yeah, I know you will.
You stared at the screen for a second longer, feeling something stir in the pit of your stomach. You shook it off, downed the rest of your coffee, and started pulling up the files for the next mission.
There was no time for distractions—not when the stakes were this high.
But still, a small part of you couldn’t help but look forward to hearing Logan’s voice in your ear again.
---
“Why don’t you tell me something ‘bout you?”
You raised an eyebrow at Logan’s question, momentarily pausing your typing before resuming. “I don’t know… don’t want a strange man knowin’ about me, do I?”
There was a low chuckle on the other end of the line. "Strange man, huh? Thought we were past that by now."
You smirked, leaning back in your chair. “Well, I guess you’re not that strange, Wolf. But still. Not sure I’m ready to spill all my secrets.”
“I’m not askin’ for all your secrets. Just one.” His voice was rough, but there was a hint of curiosity behind it, like he was genuinely interested in getting to know you. Which was… unexpected.
You tapped your fingers against the keyboard, considering. “Alright. Something about me, huh? Let’s see… I used to hate coffee. Couldn’t stand the taste.”
Logan snorted. “That’s it? C’mon, Phantom, give me somethin’ better than that.”
“Hey, you didn’t specify what kind of fact,” you shot back, a grin creeping onto your face. “But fine, if you want something more interesting… I got kicked out of my computer science class once.”
There was a beat of silence. “You? Miss hacker extraordinaire? What the hell did you do?”
You shrugged, even though he couldn’t see you. “Maybe I hacked into the school’s system to change a grade or two. Not mine, though. A friend’s. The professor wasn’t too thrilled about it.”
Logan’s laugh came through the line, deeper this time. “Should’ve known you’d be trouble.”
You smiled, leaning forward again. “Well, you’re stuck with me now.”
“Seems like it,” he muttered, a hint of something in his voice that made your stomach flip.
You cleared your throat, steering the conversation back on track. “Alright, your turn. Tell me something about you.”
“Not much to tell.” Logan’s voice was gruff, almost dismissive, but you could hear the hesitation.
“Come on, fair’s fair,” you pressed. “You can’t ask me for something and not return the favor.”
He was silent for a moment, and you could almost picture him sitting there, deciding how much he wanted to give away. Logan was driving, he had finished another mission with you on the line like always. Except this time, it ended with a man tied up and unconscious in the trunk for Ricky.
Finally, he sighed. “Alright. You want something about me? I used to be a lumberjack.”
You blinked, thrown off by the admission. “A lumberjack? Like, chopping down trees and all that?”
“Yeah. Chopping down trees, clearing land. It was… quiet. Simple.”
You let that sink in, the image of Logan swinging an axe somehow fitting. “Sounds nice. Bet you looked right at home doing it.”
He huffed a short laugh. “Not sure anyone’s ever ‘at home’ doing that, but yeah, it wasn’t bad. Kept me grounded, I guess.”
There was something unspoken in his voice, something heavy. You knew enough by now to not push too hard, so instead, you kept it light. “So, from chopping trees to chasing bad guys and mutants. Quite the career change.”
“Yeah, you could say that.” Logan’s tone shifted, and you could tell he was ready to move on. “Enough ‘bout me. What’s the status on those files? You find anything new?”
You glanced at your screen, where the data on the trafficking ring was slowly coming together. “A few new leads. Cross-referenced some names from the last mission, and there’s definitely a connection between the ring and a shipping company based in Miami. Could be our way in.”
“Good.” Logan’s voice was steady, all business again. “Send me the details when you’re done. Ricky’s gonna want to know.”
You nodded to yourself, already pulling up the files to forward to him. “You got it. And Logan?”
“Yeah?”
Try not to let Ricky drive you too crazy. I’m not sending donuts again.”
Logan snorted. “No promises.”
---
Two days later, you were back at your desk, knee-deep in code, when the comms crackled to life.
“You ready, Phantom?”
You smiled to yourself, hearing Logan’s voice in your ear again. “Always. You good to go?”
“Locked and loaded,” he replied, the sound of a car door shutting in the background. “What’s the target this time?”
You tapped a few keys, bringing up the map. “Warehouse in Miami. Based on the intel we pulled, this is one of their main distribution points. High traffic, lots of movement at night.”
“Security?”
“Pretty tight, but nothing we can’t handle. I’ll be your eyes and ears. You just focus on getting in and out.”
“Like always.” There was a pause, then, “You ever been to Miami?”
You raised an eyebrow at the question. “Once or twice. Why?”
“Just curious. Thought maybe you’d have some recommendations on where to go after all this is over.”
You couldn’t help but grin. “What, planning a vacation already?”
“Maybe. Depends how fast we wrap this up.”
Shaking your head, you brought the focus back to the mission. “Alright, Wolf. Let’s get through this first, then we can talk about your beach plans.”
Logan chuckled, low and rough. “Deal.”
As you guided him through the back streets of Miami, tracking his every move on the security cameras, you couldn’t help but feel that familiar sense of anticipation. Working with Logan had become second nature by now, and yet there was always this underlying tension, this unspoken connection between you two that made every mission just a little more intense.
“Left at the next alley,” you instructed, your eyes flicking between the camera feeds. “You’ll see a door around the corner. Should be unlocked.”
“Got it,” Logan replied, his voice steady. You could hear his footsteps echoing off the alley walls as he approached the warehouse.
“Any movement inside?” he asked, keeping his voice low.
You scanned the interior feeds. “Three guards on the ground floor, two patrolling the upper levels. They’re not on high alert, though. You should be able to slip past them.”
“Easy enough.”
You listened to the sound of him moving, the slight creak of a door opening, then the soft thud of his boots on concrete. You kept your focus on the screens, heart rate picking up as Logan made his way deeper into the building.
“There’s a stairwell to your left,” you whispered, though no one but Logan could hear you. “Take it up. The control room’s on the second floor.”
“On it.”
Everything was going smoothly—until it wasn’t.
“Shit,” Logan muttered, his voice tense. “Got company.”
Your eyes flew to the nearest camera, catching sight of two guards rounding the corner, guns drawn.
“Hang on,” you said quickly, fingers flying across the keyboard. “I’m looping the camera feed—there, they shouldn’t be able to see you now.”
Logan didn’t respond right away, but you heard the scuffle over the line, the sound of fists meeting flesh, followed by a grunt of pain. You held your breath, watching the screens intently.
“Logan? You good?”
There was a beat of silence before his voice came through, breathless but unbothered. “Yeah. Just had to put a couple guys to sleep.”
You let out a breath you didn’t realize you’d been holding. “Jesus, give me a heart attack, why don’t you?”
“Don’t worry, Phantom. I’ve got it under control.”
You could practically hear the smirk in his voice, and despite the tension, you couldn’t help but smile. “Well, next time, maybe give me a little warning before you go all Rambo on me.”
“No promises,” Logan’s voice crackled through the comms, and you could practically hear the grin in his tone. There was a brief pause before he added, “You still with me, Phantom?”
You shook your head, trying to suppress a smile. “Barely. I swear, you’ll be the death of me one of these days.”
His laugh came low and rough, and for a moment, you let yourself relax a little, the tension from earlier easing. “Wouldn’t be the first time I’ve heard that.”
“Yeah, well, I mean it,” you shot back, eyes scanning the multiple screens in front of you. The warehouse was sprawling, but you had a pretty good read on the layout by now. “You’re clear to move. No one else on this floor.”
“Got it.” You heard the soft thud of his boots again as he moved forward.
“So, what’s the next step?” Logan asked, keeping his voice low. “You got me runnin’ around this place, but you haven’t told me what I’m lookin’ for.”
“Patience, Wolf,” you teased, tapping a few more keys to bring up the rest of the building’s security system. “I’m working on it. There’s a secure server room on the north side of the building. That’s where they’re storing the data we need. You’re gonna have to bypass their security to get in.”
“Piece of cake.”
“Funny you mention cake,” you said, grinning to yourself as you tapped into the server’s firewall. “Because after this, I’m thinking you owe me some. Maybe even pie. You’re racking up quite the tab.”
Logan chuckled. “Yeah? We’ll see. First, let’s get through this alive.”
“I’m holding you to that.”
As you worked, your mind drifted for a second, the familiar rhythm of the job taking over. It was almost unsettling how natural it had become to guide Logan through these kinds of missions. You weren’t sure when you’d started looking forward to them—maybe it was the banter, maybe it was the trust you’d built. But either way, it had become a part of your routine.
“Server room’s on the right,” you said after a beat, focusing back on the task at hand. “Two guards outside, but they don’t seem too alert. Shouldn’t be a problem for you.”
Logan’s voice was smooth as he replied, “Already ahead of you. On my way.”
You kept your eyes on the screen, watching as he moved through the shadows, blending in with the dark corners of the warehouse. It was impressive, really. The way he worked was so fluid, like he’d done this a thousand times before. And, well, he probably had.
“There’s an override switch on the wall next to the door,” you instructed. “Flip it, and you’ll have access.”
Logan grunted in response, and a moment later, you heard the soft click of the door unlocking.
“Inside,” he muttered. “Now what?”
You were about to respond when a sudden blip on your screen caught your attention. “Wait, hold up,” you said quickly, fingers flying across the keyboard. “We’ve got movement. Someone’s heading toward your location. Two guards, second floor.”
Logan’s voice was calm, even as he moved into action. “How long do I have?”
“Not long. They’re coming fast.” Your heart pounded as you watched the dots on the map converge on his location. “You need to get out of there, now.”
“Too late for that,” Logan muttered, the sounds of heavy footsteps echoing through the comms.
“Logan—”
“Don’t worry, Phantom,” he cut you off, and you could hear the smirk in his voice again. “I’ve got this.”
The next thing you heard was the unmistakable sound of fists hitting flesh, followed by a low grunt of pain. You winced, even though you couldn’t see what was happening.
“Logan? Talk to me.”
More sounds of a struggle came through, and then finally, Logan’s voice, slightly breathless but unbothered. “Two down. Told ya, no problem.”
You let out a shaky breath, leaning back in your chair. “Yeah, well, maybe next time don’t wait until the last second to handle it.”
“Where’s the fun in that?”
You couldn’t help but laugh, even though your nerves were still on edge. “You’re impossible.”
“That’s what they tell me,” he replied, and you could hear the faint rustle of him moving again. “Alright, I’m at the server. How much time do we need?”
“Give me five minutes,” you said, fingers flying across the keyboard as you initiated the download remotely. “I’m pulling the data now. Just stay put until I finish.”
“Five minutes? Thought you were faster than that, Phantom.”
“Don’t push it, Logan,” you shot back, rolling your eyes even though he couldn’t see you. “I’d like to see you hack into a secured server faster.”
“Maybe I’ll give it a shot one of these days,” he muttered, the humor still in his voice. “Bet I’d be a natural.”
“Please. You’d probably smash the computer before you even logged in.”
“Only if it pissed me off.”
You shook your head, focusing back on the task at hand. “Alright, I’m almost done. Just a few more seconds.”
There was silence on the line for a moment, and you could hear Logan shifting in place, his breaths slow and steady.
“You ever think about doin’ this full time?” he asked suddenly, his voice lower now, more serious.
“Hacking?” you replied, thrown off by the question. “I mean, I’m not exactly doing this for the money. Why?”
“Just curious,” Logan said, and you could tell by his tone that he wasn’t pressing the issue. “Seems like you’re good at it. You could make a real difference.”
You hesitated, fingers hovering over the keys. “I’m already making a difference,” you said softly, your voice quieter than usual. “I don’t need to do it full time to feel like it matters.”
There was a pause, and for a moment, you thought maybe the line had cut out. But then Logan spoke again, his voice low and almost… thoughtful.
“Yeah. Guess you’re right.”
You didn’t know how to respond to that, so you didn’t. Instead, you focused on finishing the download, the soft hum of the servers filling the silence between you.
“Got it,” you said finally, leaning back in your chair with a sigh of relief. “Download’s complete. You’re good to go.”
Logan didn’t reply right away, but you could hear the soft sound of him moving, his footsteps heavy against the concrete floor.
“Logan?” you prompted after a moment, the silence starting to make you uneasy.
“Yeah,” he said finally, his voice a little distant. “I’m on my way out.”
You nodded to yourself, watching his dot move across the map on your screen. “Good. Let’s get you out of there.”
As you guided him back through the warehouse, you couldn’t help but wonder what had changed in his voice during those last few minutes. Something about the way he’d asked that question—about doing this full time—had caught you off guard.
But now wasn’t the time to dwell on it. You had a job to finish, and Logan needed to get out of there safely.
“Alright, you’re clear,” you said once he reached the exit. “No one’s around. Just make sure you don’t—”
“Yeah, I know,” Logan interrupted, and you could hear the smirk in his voice again. “Don’t get shot. You’ve told me a thousand times, Phantom.”
“Then maybe this time you’ll listen,” you shot back, grinning despite yourself.
Logan chuckled, the sound low and rough. “No promises.”
And with that, the line went quiet, leaving you alone in the soft glow of your computer screen.
---
"Alright, your change is $2.87. Have a good one.” You handed the change and a paper bag to the customer, smiling politely. After brushing your hands on your pastel blue apron, you turned to the next person in line. "How can I help—”
You paused mid-sentence as you looked up, surprised to see Ricky standing in front of you with a smirk on his face. You let out an exaggerated sigh. “The regular?”
“Always.” Ricky leaned against the counter, watching you with that usual casual attitude. “You know me too well, Phantom.”
You scoffed lightly at the use of your codename in the middle of your bakery. "Could you not call me that here?" You motioned to the line behind him. “I’d prefer not to blow my cover in front of customers.”
Ricky grinned, clearly enjoying himself. “Relax, I’m just messin’ with you. Your secret’s safe with me.”
You shook your head and started prepping his order, grabbing a coffee and a chocolate croissant, which he always got whenever he visited your bakery. “What are you doing here anyway? Don’t you have something better to do than bother me at work?”
“Maybe I just missed my favorite hacker-slash-baker,” Ricky teased, crossing his arms as he watched you work. “Figured I’d stop by and see how you’re holding up.”
You raised an eyebrow, handing him the coffee. “I’m holding up fine. Business as usual.”
“Yeah. This place looks better than before. New paint job?”
“Actually, no. New tables and chairs.” You replied. Computer programming had always been something you enjoyed and loved, but when you started working for a big tech company, you couldn’t help but feel like your talents were going to waste.
You found Ricky, or rather, Ricky found you, and you were recruited into ‘The Organization’ to take down mutant trafficking rings. You still needed money, so you decided to put to use your other skill, baking. You opened a small bakery in New York City and have been running it for close to 2 years now.
Ricky leaned against the counter, eyeing the new setup. “So this is what you do when you’re not saving the world? Whip up some cupcakes?”
You rolled your eyes as you placed the croissant in a bag. “Something like that. Gotta pay the bills, right?”
Ricky took the bag from you, giving you a knowing smirk. “You know, it’s still hard to picture you as a baker. I keep waiting for the day I come in here, and all the pastries are bugged with tiny microphones.”
You snorted. “Please. Like I’d waste good croissants on something like that.”
He laughed, then took a sip of his coffee. “You heard from Logan?”
Your fingers froze for a split second, but you quickly masked it by busying yourself with wiping down the counter. “Why? Did something happen?”
Ricky raised an eyebrow. “No, not that I know of. Just thought he might’ve reached out, is all.”
You shrugged, trying to keep your tone casual. “He’s probably busy. You know how it is.”
“Mhm.” Ricky gave you a look that suggested he wasn’t buying it. “Right. Busy.”
You shot him a glance. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
He grinned, shaking his head. “Nothing, Phantom. Just… you two seem to get along pretty well. That’s all.”
You felt a warmth creeping up the back of your neck and quickly turned away, focusing on the pastries again. “We work well together, if that’s what you mean.”
“Sure, sure,” Ricky said, clearly amused. “Just don’t let ol’ Wolf get too attached. He’s not exactly the sentimental type.”
You scoffed. “Yeah, Im not worried about that.”
But even as you said it, you couldn’t help but think back to the last mission. The banter, the small moments where Logan seemed to let his guard down—just a little. It wasn’t much, but it was enough to make you wonder.
Ricky stood up straight, crumpling the paper bag in his hand. “Alright, Phantom. I’ll leave you to your cupcakes and secret side missions. Just don’t go getting yourself into trouble.”
“Me? Trouble?” you grinned. “Never.”
He chuckled, heading for the door. “Catch you later.”
As soon as he was gone, you let out a breath you didn’t realize you’d been holding. Ricky had a way of pushing your buttons just enough to make you think. And now you couldn’t stop replaying your recent conversations with Logan in your head. It was strange—this… thing between you two. He wasn’t like anyone you’d worked with before. And yet, it felt natural, like you’d known each other much longer than a few months.
Your phone buzzed in your apron pocket, snapping you out of your thoughts. You pulled it out and glanced at the screen.
Logan: Got some info for you. When’s your next shift with me?
You bit your lip, your fingers hovering over the keys for a second before you replied.
You: Whenever you need me. What’s the mission?
Logan: I’ll fill you in later. Just be ready.
You: Always am, Wolf.
A short pause, then Logan’s reply came through.
Logan: I know.
You stared at the screen for a moment longer, feeling that familiar flutter in your chest. Shaking your head, you shoved the phone back into your pocket. You had a business to run, after all. There was no time to dwell on this… whatever it was between you and Logan.
But as you served the next customer with a practiced smile, you couldn’t quite shake the feeling that your next mission with him was going to be different. Maybe it already was.
---
“You ever been to New York City?” Logan asked.
You briefly stopped your typing on the keyboard, “maybe. Maybe not. Why?”
Logan’s voice crackled through the earpiece, low and rough as always. “Just curious. Figured you might’ve wandered through at some point, considering how close we’ve been workin’ together.”
You raised an eyebrow, glancing at the surveillance feed on your screen. “Is this your version of small talk, Wolf? Because I gotta say, you’re not exactly known for that.”
He chuckled. “Nah, just figured it was worth askin’. You ever get outta that basement of yours?”
You leaned back in your chair, smirking to yourself. “I’m not always in a basement, you know. I have other things going on. Like you, sweetie. You focusing on those wires?”
“Sweetie?” Logan’s voice came back with a low growl, amusement lacing his tone. “You know I don’t get distracted easy, darlin’.”
You smirked at the monitor in front of you, watching as he carefully maneuvered through the narrow corridor of the warehouse. “Just making sure. Wouldn’t want to have to bail you out if you trip a wire.”
“Funny,” he muttered. “You’re soundin’ real confident for someone sittin’ comfy at a keyboard.”
“Hey, I’m not comfy,” you shot back, leaning closer to the screen. “I’m on the edge of my seat watching your back.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Logan said, the sound of a door creaking open in the background. “What do you see up ahead?”
You focused on the different camera feeds, your fingers flying over the keys to switch between views. “Two guards in the hallway to your left. Armed. They’re just patrolling, so if you wait about ten seconds, you should be able to slip by.”
“Copy that.” His breathing slowed, the sound of footsteps faint as he pressed himself against the wall. “Tell me somethin’, Phantom. What do you do when you’re not playin’ babysitter for me?”
You couldn’t help but laugh softly. “Wouldn’t you like to know?”
Logan grunted softly, the sound of his claws extending briefly as he took a peek around the corner. “Yeah, kinda. All I get’s that voice of yours—still gotta figure out the face that goes with it.”
You rolled your eyes, but you were smiling. “You’re obsessed, Wolf.”
“Never said I wasn’t.” There was a beat of silence as Logan moved silently down the hallway, bypassing the guards with ease. “But you still didn’t answer me.”
You sighed dramatically, switching to another camera feed that showed a large storage room filled with crates. “What do you think I do? Sit in a dark room, hacking into firewalls all day?”
Logan snorted. “Ain’t that what you’re doin’ now?”
“Touché.” You shifted slightly, watching him take down a lone guard with a quick, precise movement. “But no. I do have a life outside of this, you know.”
“Like what?” He sounded genuinely curious now, and you could almost picture the way his brows would be furrowed in concentration. “You got a family? Friends?”
You paused, fingers hovering over the keyboard. Family? Not really. Friends? Also a stretch. But you didn’t feel like sharing that right now. “I’ve got… a business to run.”
Logan was quiet for a moment. “A business, huh? Didn’t think you’d be the type to deal with customers.”
“Why not?” you shot back. “I’m very good with people, I’ll have you know.”
“Yeah, like the time you almost tore that guy a new one when he questioned your coding?” He chuckled, the sound low and deep in your ear. “Real people person, darlin’.”
“Okay, that was one time.” You rolled your eyes. “And he deserved it. But yeah, I’m pretty good with people—when I want to be.”
“Uh-huh.” There was a rustling noise, like he was checking through one of the crates. “What kinda business?”
You hesitated again. Part of you wanted to keep that piece of your life separate from Logan. But he’d been honest with you about a lot of things—his past, his work, even some of his regrets. It seemed only fair to give a little in return.
“...A bakery,” you finally admitted, almost cringing at how mundane it sounded compared to the world you two operated in.
There was a long pause on the other end. Then—
“A bakery?” Logan repeated, his voice thick with disbelief. “Like… cupcakes and cookies bakery?”
“Yeah, Wolf,” you said dryly, feeling heat creep up your neck. “I bake things. It’s called having a hobby.”
He made a noise that sounded suspiciously like a laugh. “Just tryin’ to picture it, that’s all. Our resident hacker pullin’ cookies out of the oven.”
“Is that so hard to imagine?” You switched to another feed, tracking his progress through the facility. “I bet you’d like my cookies.”
“Yeah?” There was a hint of teasing in his voice now. “You gonna make some for me sometime?”
You bit your lip, surprised at the sudden flutter in your chest at the thought. “Maybe. If you’re good.”
“Darlin’, I’m always good.”
“Debatable,” you shot back quickly, but your smile softened at the edges. “But I’ll keep that in mind.”
There was another pause, and you could hear Logan’s soft exhale through the comms. “You really own a bakery?”
“Yes, really,” you said, feeling oddly defensive now. “I’m not making it up just to sound cute.”
He chuckled again. “I didn’t think that. Just… didn’t see it comin’, is all. Got any specialties?”
You blinked at the sudden change in tone, a mix of genuine curiosity and something else you couldn’t quite place. “Well, I make a mean chocolate croissant.”
“Chocolate croissant, huh?” He sounded like he was mulling it over. “Could go for one right now.”
“Focus, Wolf,” you teased, but there was a warmth spreading through you that had nothing to do with the coffee beside you. “Get through this mission, and maybe I’ll let you try one.”
“I’ll hold you to that.” His voice was low, a promise wrapped in that simple statement.
For a moment, the two of you fell into a comfortable silence. It was strange how easy it felt, talking like this. Like you weren’t two people who only knew each other through voices and screens. Like there was something more.
“Alright, I’m in position,” Logan murmured, breaking the silence. “What’s next?”
You glanced at the feed, spotting the final target. “There’s a control panel just ahead. Shut it down, and we’ll have full access to the data we need.”
“On it.” There was a soft thud as he moved forward, the sound of his claws retracting. “Phantom?”
“Yeah?”
“Thanks… for keepin’ me company. Makes this kinda work a little less shit.”
Your heart skipped a beat, and you struggled to find your voice for a second. “...Anytime, Wolf.”
And you meant it.
---
After 5 months of The Organization searching, the base of the mutant trafficking ring was finally found. It wasn’t just you and Logan, but other’s out on the field searching, and now things were coming to a head.
Ricky had briefed everyone—the field agents and those, like you, behind the computers. Everyone was in position, and tonight, after months of planning, the mutant trafficking ring was finally going to be shut down.
You took a steadying breath, fingers hovering over your keyboard. The screens in front of you were filled with various feeds: security cameras, schematics of the building, comms channels. It was go-time, and as much as you liked to pretend you were calm, there was a knot of tension in your stomach. You knew what was riding on this mission—innocent lives, and for some reason, your thoughts kept circling back to one person in particular.
“Phantom, you there?” Logan’s voice came through your earpiece, low and steady.
“Yeah, Wolf. Right here.” You sat up a little straighter, adjusting the headset. “You good?”
“Never better.” He sounded almost amused. “How ‘bout you? Keepin’ those fingers of yours nimble?”
You rolled your eyes, even though he couldn’t see it. “I’m ready to go. All feeds are online, and I’ve got eyes on every entrance. You’re at the west side of the building, right?”
“Yep.” He paused, and you heard the faint shuffle of boots against gravel. “What’s your status?”
“Locked and loaded,” you replied, scanning the feeds. “Looks like we’ve got a dozen guards outside, plus more scattered throughout the building. The main target’s in the central office on the second floor. You’ll need to cut through the lower levels to get there.”
“Got it. You got eyes on the others?”
You quickly toggled between the different comms channels, listening in on reports from the other teams. “Everyone’s in position. Team Alpha is covering the south, Bravo’s moving to secure the exit routes. You’re clear to start your approach.”
Logan grunted in acknowledgment, and you watched on one of the monitors as he started moving through the shadows, staying low and out of sight.
“Be careful, Wolf,” you murmured, your voice softer than you intended.
“Careful’s my middle name,” he drawled back, a hint of that signature cockiness coming through. “You just keep those pretty eyes on the feeds and tell me if someone’s gonna try and sneak up on me.”
“Always do,” you shot back, smiling despite the tension in the air.
There was a pause on his end, and then: “What’s the fastest way to the office from here?”
You glanced at the building’s layout, quickly mapping out a route in your head. “Take the staircase to your right, follow the hallway down two doors, then take a left. You should be able to bypass most of the guards that way. Just… watch for the tripwires.”
“Roger that. Stay on me, Phantom.”
“Like I’m ever not.” You kept your eyes glued to the screen as Logan moved through the facility with practiced ease. Despite the tension thrumming through your veins, there was a strange calmness in listening to his breathing over the comms, knowing you were right there with him, even if it was only in a digital sense.
“How’s it look up ahead?” he asked after a few moments of silence.
“Two guards at the end of the hall,” you reported, zooming in on one of the feeds. “They’re armed, but they’re not paying attention. You should be able to take them out quietly.”
Logan didn’t respond, but you saw him slip into the corridor, moving like a shadow. A few seconds later, both guards were down, and he was back on the line. “Clear.”
“Nice work, Wolf.” You leaned forward, fingers flying over the keyboard to hack into the security system. “I’m disabling the cameras on the next floor. You should have a clear path to the office, but I’m picking up some chatter—looks like they’re getting suspicious.”
“Let ‘em get suspicious.” There was a low, dangerous edge to his voice now. “I’m ready.”
You couldn’t help but grin a little. “That makes one of us.”
“C’mon, Phantom, you know you love this shit,” he teased, but there was a warmth in his tone that made your heart skip a beat. “All that adrenaline. Gets the blood pumpin’, doesn’t it?”
You bit your lip, shaking your head even though he couldn’t see you. “I’m not the one out there risking my neck. That’s your job.”
“Yeah, well… you’re doin’ a hell of a job keepin’ me from getting my ass shot off.” There was a pause, and then he added, almost softly, “Don’t know what I’d do without you, darlin’.”
You blinked at the screen, momentarily caught off guard by his words. “...Just stay focused, Wolf. I’m not pulling your ass out of this if you get cocky.”
“Don’t worry ‘bout me, sweetheart. I’m good.” His voice turned serious again as he approached the central office. “I’m at the door. How many inside?”
You quickly cycled through the cameras, counting the figures inside. “Three guards. One unarmed. That’s the target. If you move quick, you should be able to neutralize them before they call for backup.”
“Got it.” Logan’s voice was low, almost a growl. You watched as he shifted his weight, preparing to make his move. It was always a little nerve-wracking, watching him go in like this, but you trusted him. He knew what he was doing.
Your fingers danced over the keyboard, disabling the cameras in the immediate area. “I’m taking out the cameras around the office. You’re clear for entry. Make it fast, Wolf.”
“Don’t worry. I’m on it.” He paused for a beat. “How’s the rest of the team doin’?”
You glanced at the other feeds, tracking the movements of the different teams scattered throughout the building. “Team Alpha just took out the last of the perimeter guards. Bravo’s securing the exits—no one’s getting in or out without us knowing.”
“Good. Let’s end this.” There was a soft click as Logan pushed the door open, slipping inside the office with deadly precision.
The guards barely had time to react. You watched in awe as he took them down with a combination of swift strikes and quick, lethal movements. He was a blur of action, and within seconds, the only people left standing were Logan and the target—an older man who looked like he’d just seen a ghost.
“Please, don’t—” the man stammered, holding up his hands in a pathetic attempt at self-defense.
“Shut up,” Logan growled, grabbing him by the collar and slamming him against the wall. “You’re gonna answer a few questions for me.”
You leaned closer to the screen, keeping an eye on the other guards roaming the hallways. “Careful, Wolf. We don’t know if he’s got any backup on standby.”
“Yeah, I got it.” He gave the man a rough shake. “Who’s runnin’ this operation? Where’s the rest of the mutants you’ve been trafficking?”
The man sputtered, his face pale. “I—I don’t know! I just handle the logistics—transport, security—”
“Bullshit.” Logan’s claws extended with a sharp snikt, and you could hear the man’s terrified gasp even through the comms. “Try again, bub. And don’t lie to me.”
You zoomed in on the screen, checking for any signs of incoming guards. “Logan, I’m picking up movement on the lower levels. It’s not one of ours—looks like reinforcements. You need to hurry.”
“Copy that.” He leaned in closer to the man, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. “Last chance. Where are the mutants?”
“Storage room—basement level—cage twelve!” The man practically screamed the words, his eyes wide with fear. “Please, I swear, that’s all I know!”
“Storage room, basement level, cage twelve,” you repeated quickly, already pulling up the layout of the basement. “I’m sending the coordinates to Team Bravo now.”
“Good.” Logan released the man, who slumped to the floor, trembling. He stepped back, claws retracting. “Now sit tight. You’re gonna have some company soon.”
The man whimpered but didn’t move as Logan turned and made his way out of the office. You switched your focus back to the basement, watching as Team Bravo moved in to secure the mutants.
“They’re in position,” you reported, keeping your voice calm. “Looks like… ten, no, twelve mutants total. All of them are alive.”
“Alive, huh?” Logan’s voice softened just a fraction. “That’s somethin’, at least.”
“Yeah.” You couldn’t help the small smile that tugged at your lips. After months of hunting down leads, false starts, and dead ends, it was finally coming together. “We did it, Wolf.”
“Not yet, we haven’t.” His tone turned serious again. “We still gotta get ‘em outta here. You got a path?”
“Working on it.” Your fingers flew over the keyboard, pulling up the building’s blueprints. “Okay, there’s an access tunnel two levels down from where you are. It leads straight to an underground parking garage. If you can get them there, we’ll have transport waiting.”
“Got it. I’ll head down now.” He paused for a moment, then added quietly, “Good work, Phantom.”
You felt a warmth spread through you at the unexpected praise. “Same to you, Wolf. Just… stay safe, okay?”
There was a soft chuckle on the other end. “Don’t you worry ‘bout me, darlin’. You just keep doin’ what you do best.”
You stayed on the line, guiding him through the lower levels as he made his way to the basement. The rest of the mission went off like clockwork—Team Bravo secured the mutants, Team Alpha kept the perimeter locked down, and Logan made sure no one got in their way.
By the time it was all over, the mutants were safe, the ring was shut down, and the remaining traffickers were either captured or taken out. It was a resounding success, and yet, as you watched Logan emerge from the building, something inside you felt… off.
“Logan?” you called out softly, your voice hesitant. “You good?”
“Yeah. Just tired.” He sounded a little rough around the edges, but that was to be expected after a mission like this. “What about you? You doin’ okay?”
You let out a soft breath, leaning back in your chair. “Yeah, I’m good. Just… glad it’s over, I guess.”
“Yeah.” There was a pause, and then he added, “You did good tonight, Phantom. Real good.”
“Thanks, Wolf.” You smiled, even though he couldn’t see it. “Couldn’t have done it without you.”
He grunted softly, the sound almost affectionate. “Bet you say that to all the guys you babysit.”
“Only the ones I like,” you teased, feeling a little bolder now that the mission was over. “But seriously… thanks for trusting me out there. I know it’s not easy.”
“Trust ain’t somethin’ I give lightly,” he murmured, his voice low and sincere. “But you earned it. Over and over.”
You didn’t know what to say to that, so you settled for a soft, “...I’m glad.”
There was another beat of silence, and then Logan’s voice came back, a little lighter. “So, when am I gettin’ that chocolate croissant?”
You laughed softly, shaking your head. “Guess you’ll just have to swing by my bakery sometime, huh?”
“Maybe I will.” He sounded thoughtful, like he was considering it for the first time. “Soon as I figure out where the hell it is.”
“Good luck with that,” you teased, feeling a strange mix of excitement and nerves. “But if you do find it… first croissant’s on me.”
“I’ll hold you to that, darlin’.” There was a warm, teasing lilt to his voice now. “Take care, Phantom.”
“You too, Wolf.”
And with that, the line went quiet. You stared at the screen for a moment longer, a smile tugging at your lips. It wasn’t much, but it felt like a step—toward something new, something real.
Maybe one day, you’d get to see the look on Logan’s face when he finally tasted one of your croissants.
But for now, this was enough.
---
It had been a few weeks since the mutant trafficking ring was taken down, and since then, things from The Organization had been quiet. You were sure that soon, something would happen, and you’d have a new mission or cause to fight for, but for now, life was… normal. Or, as normal as things could get for you.
During the day, you focused on your bakery. The smell of freshly baked bread and sweet pastries filled the small space, the steady hum of business keeping you busy. You didn’t have to think about The Organization or anything outside of kneading dough and serving customers. It was a welcome change of pace, a grounding routine that gave you some much-needed breathing room.
But at night, when the bakery was closed and the streets outside your shop went quiet, your mind wandered back to Logan—and those long conversations over the comms. The teasing back and forth. The gruff but genuine praise. The way he’d been so protective of you, even when you were just a voice in his ear.
You leaned against the counter, wiping your hands on your apron as you glanced around your empty shop. The bell above the door jingled, and you glanced up, expecting to see one of your regulars who’d forgotten to grab something before closing.
But it wasn’t one of your regulars.
It was him.
Logan.
He stood in the doorway, his broad frame almost filling it completely. A beat of silence passed as you stared at each other, and then he stepped inside, his boots making a soft thud against the wooden floor.
“Hey, darlin’.” His voice was the same deep, rough tone you remembered, and yet hearing it in person made your heart skip a beat. He glanced around the bakery, a faint smirk tugging at his lips. “Figured I’d finally swing by and see if your croissants live up to the hype.”
For a moment, you couldn’t speak. He was here. Here. In your bakery, standing in front of you like it was the most normal thing in the world.
“Logan?” You blinked, trying to wrap your mind around it. “How—how did you find me?”
He shrugged like it was nothing, but there was a mischievous glint in his eyes. “Did a little diggin’. Asked around. Turns out you’re not as good at hiding as you think.”
You felt a flush rise to your cheeks, a mix of surprise and… something else. “And you just—decided to show up out of nowhere?”
“Thought you could use some company,” he replied easily, but there was a seriousness in his gaze that told you this wasn’t just a casual visit. “Been too quiet lately. I don’t do quiet well.”
You let out a soft laugh, shaking your head. “I can’t believe you’re actually here.”
“Neither can I,” he murmured, his eyes lingering on you for a moment longer before he glanced at the display case filled with pastries. “But since I am… you gonna give me that croissant, or what?”
The corner of your mouth lifted, and you reached behind the counter, pulling out a fresh chocolate croissant. You placed it on a small plate, sliding it across to him. “First one’s on the house, remember?”
Logan took the plate, his fingers brushing against yours for the briefest of moments. A spark shot through you, but you quickly pulled your hand back, pretending like it hadn’t happened.
He lifted the croissant, inspecting it with a critical eye before taking a bite. You watched, holding your breath as he chewed thoughtfully. Then, he swallowed and nodded.
“Not bad, Phantom. Not bad at all.”
You let out a breath you hadn’t realized you’d been holding, a smile breaking out on your face. “Just ‘not bad?’ I think I’m a little insulted.”
He chuckled, a deep, rumbling sound that sent a shiver down your spine. “Okay, fine. It’s good. Real good.” He took another bite, his gaze softening as he looked at you. “You’re full of surprises, aren’t ya?”
“I could say the same about you.” You leaned against the counter, studying him. In the soft light of the bakery, he looked a little more relaxed, less guarded. There was still that roughness to him, but there was something else, too—a quiet sort of contentment. “So, what’s the real reason you’re here, Logan?”
He raised an eyebrow, finishing off the croissant before setting the plate down. “What, a guy can’t visit his favorite hacker?”
“Nice try.” You gave him a look, crossing your arms. “But I know you better than that.”
He sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “Maybe I just wanted to see for myself that you’re okay. That this place is real. That you’re… real.”
You felt something tighten in your chest, your gaze softening. “I’m real, Logan. You know that.”
“Yeah.” He looked around again, as if trying to memorize every detail of your little shop. “But it’s different, seein’ it with my own eyes.”
There was a weight to his words, a sincerity that made your heart ache a little. You’d spent so many nights talking to him, listening to his voice, getting to know him in a way that felt almost… intimate. And now he was here, standing in front of you, and it felt like a dream.
“Do you—” You hesitated, biting your lip. “Do you want to stay for a bit? I’ve got coffee. Or tea, if that’s more your style.”
Logan’s lips twitched into a small smile. “Coffee sounds good.”
You turned to make a fresh pot, your hands moving on autopilot as your mind raced. What did this mean? Why now? You’d thought maybe, someday, you’d meet Logan in person, but you hadn’t expected it to be like this—so sudden, so… normal.
“So,” Logan drawled, leaning against the counter as he watched you, “what’s next for you? Gonna hang up your hacker hat and just focus on bakin’?”
You glanced over your shoulder, giving him a wry smile. “You think I could actually stay out of trouble for long?”
He huffed a quiet laugh. “Nah. Don’t think you’re cut out for the quiet life, darlin’.”
“Guess we have that in common, huh?” You poured the coffee, sliding a mug over to him. “But for now… I’m taking a little break. I think I’ve earned it.”
“Yeah, you have.” He took the mug, his fingers brushing against yours again. This time, neither of you pulled away. “So… what’s the plan now? Just you and the bakery?”
“For now.” You shrugged, looking around the shop. “It’s nice. Calming, even. Keeps me grounded.”
Logan studied you for a long moment, his gaze intent. “You know, I never pictured you like this. With flour on your apron and—what’s that?” He reached out, brushing his thumb lightly against your cheek. “Frostin’ on your face?”
You froze at the contact, your breath catching in your throat. His touch was surprisingly gentle, the roughness of his thumb contrasting with the softness of your skin. You stared at him, caught off guard by the sudden intimacy of the moment.
“I—uh—” You cleared your throat, feeling your face heat up. “Occupational hazard, I guess.”
“Hmm.” His thumb lingered for a heartbeat longer, then he pulled back, his expression softening. “Guess it suits you.”
You swallowed, trying to steady your racing heart. “What about you? What’s next for the great Wolverine? Gonna go back to the X-Men?”
Logan chuckled, leaning back slightly as he sipped his coffee. “Who said I ever left? Maybe I was doin’ this as my side job.”
You raised an eyebrow, giving him a playful look. “Oh, so the big bad Wolverine has a side hustle now? Should I be worried you’re going to start making croissants too?”
He smirked. “Nah, I’ll leave the bakin’ to you. But maybe I’ll stick around, see how things go.” His eyes held yours, that familiar teasing edge mixed with something else—a quiet intensity.
“Stick around?” you asked, not entirely sure where he was going with this. “In New York? Thought you weren’t a fan of big cities.”
Logan shrugged, his gaze flicking around your cozy bakery again. “It grows on ya. Plus, I got reasons to hang around now.”
The way he said it, so casual but pointed, made your heart skip a beat. “Reasons, huh?”
He leaned forward, setting his mug down on the counter. “Yeah, Phantom. You think I spent all those nights listenin’ to you talk, gettin’ to know you, just to go back to business as usual?”
You blinked, caught off guard by the directness of his words. You tried to bring things back to normal, to calm your racing heart, but perhaps you only made it worse with his response. “Y- you don’t have to call me that, you know? Or- anymore, at least.”
Logan’s eyes locked onto yours, a spark of curiosity flickering in his gaze. He leaned forward, elbows resting on the counter. “Oh yeah? So, what should I call ya?”
You hesitated, feeling the weight of his question. It was such a simple thing—your real name. Something you’d kept hidden, not out of fear, but because keeping a wall between your real life and Phantom had made things… easier. Safer, even. But you felt safe with him standing in front of you, even if it was the first time meeting face to face.
“Y/N.” You finally said, quietly with a small smile.
Logan’s eyes softened, something shifting in his expression as he repeated your name—almost testing it out. “Y/N, huh? Suits you.”
You shrugged, trying to play it cool despite the warmth spreading through your chest. “Figured it was time to be on a first-name basis, Wolf.”
His lips twitched into a smirk at the nickname. “Wolf,” he repeated, rolling his eyes in mock exasperation. “You’ve been callin’ me that for months. Thought you’d drop it once I was standin’ right in front of ya.”
“Why would I do that?” you shot back, your smile growing a little more confident. “It suits you, Wolf.”
Logan chuckled, shaking his head. “Fair enough.” He leaned back, his gaze never leaving yours. “Guess I’ll stick with ‘Phantom’ for old times’ sake.”
“‘Y/N’ is fine,” you said softly. “I think we’re past codenames.”
He nodded slowly, a faint smile tugging at his lips. “Y/N, then.” The way he said it—slow and deliberate—made your heart flutter. There was something so personal about it, so… intimate. You’d spent so long hiding behind ‘Phantom’ that hearing your real name in his voice felt almost surreal.
You glanced down at the counter, clearing your throat to break the tension. “So,” you said slowly, a hint of mischief creeping into your tone, “now that you’ve tried my croissants, what’s next on the list? Gonna critique my muffins too?”
Logan’s smirk widened, his eyes glinting. “Oh, I’m definitely stickin’ around long enough to try everything on that menu, darlin’. Gotta make sure it’s all up to snuff.”
“Uh-huh. Just don’t expect me to bake for you every day,” you teased, but there was a warmth in your voice that you couldn’t quite hide.
“I dunno,” he drawled, leaning forward slightly, his voice dropping to a lower, more intimate tone. “Kinda like the idea of you makin’ me breakfast.”
Your heart skipped a beat, your breath catching in your throat. You chuckled back at him, putting the towel in your hand over your shoulder, “yeah? Bet you say that to all the women you meet.”
Logan’s smirk grew, the corner of his mouth lifting in that way you’d come to recognize as trouble. “You think I go around findin’ bakeries just to get breakfast from pretty hackers?”
“Pretty hackers?” you teased, raising an eyebrow. “Didn’t know I was your type, Wolf.”
He shrugged, leaning back in his chair with an easy confidence. “You’re my type if you keep makin’ croissants like that.”
You laughed softly, shaking your head. “Nice recovery.”
There was a beat of silence, and Logan’s smirk softened, replaced by a more thoughtful look. His eyes swept around the shop again, taking in the cozy space as if trying to understand something deeper about it—about you.
“This place,” he said quietly, breaking the silence. “It’s yours, huh?”
“Yeah,” you replied, a touch of pride in your voice. “Bought it a couple of years ago. Did most of the renovations myself. Not the hacking kind, though.”
Logan nodded, his gaze lingering on the shelves lined with baked goods and the flour-dusted counter. “Figured you’d be in some high-tech lab or somethin’. Not… this.”
You smiled, glancing around your bakery. “What? Don’t think I can bake and hack at the same time?”
“Nah, it’s not that.” He paused, his brow furrowing slightly as if he were searching for the right words. “Guess I just never thought about what your life looked like when you weren’t on a mission.”
“Well,” you said softly, meeting his eyes. “This is it. Flour, sugar, and a whole lot of early mornings.”
Logan tilted his head, studying you like he was seeing a whole new side of you. “It suits ya.”
You shrugged, feeling a bit exposed under his gaze. “It’s not as exciting as fighting bad guys, but… it’s mine.”
“Doesn’t have to be exciting all the time,” he murmured. His voice was quieter now, more serious, and it made you pause. “Sometimes… it’s the quiet stuff that matters.”
You felt a warmth spread through your chest at his words, your heart doing that annoying fluttering thing it did whenever he got unexpectedly sincere. “Yeah, well, quiet doesn’t seem to be your style, Logan.”
He chuckled, a low rumble that sent a shiver down your spine. “Yeah, guess not. But maybe I’m workin’ on that.”
You gave him a playful smirk. “You? Working on ‘quiet’? I’ll believe it when I see it.”
He leaned forward, his arms resting on the counter as he looked at you, a glint of amusement in his eyes. “Maybe you’ll see it sooner than you think.”
Your teasing smile faltered slightly, your heartbeat picking up again. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Logan held your gaze for a long moment, something unspoken hanging in the air between you. “Means I’m stickin’ around, Y/N. If you’re okay with that.”
Your breath caught at the way he said your name—your real name, not Phantom. There was a weight to it, like he wasn’t just talking about the bakery or the city. He was talking about you.
“Logan,” you started, your voice a little shaky as you tried to keep it light, “are you saying you want to be a regular customer?”
He smirked, but the seriousness in his eyes didn’t fade. “Somethin’ like that. Thought maybe I’d get to know the person behind the croissants… and the computer screens.”
Your heart raced, and you couldn’t help but smile, even though you felt a little breathless. “Well, considering you just showed up without a warning, I’d say you’re off to a good start.”
Logan’s smirk widened. “Always liked makin’ an entrance.”
“Yeah, well,” you said, shaking your head, “next time, maybe give a girl a little heads-up.”
“Where’s the fun in that?” he teased, though his voice had softened.
You didn’t have a snappy comeback for that, and for a moment, neither of you spoke. The bakery felt smaller, quieter, like the world outside had paused, leaving just the two of you in this little bubble. You’d known him for months, heard his voice in your ear during some of the craziest situations, but this—standing here in the same room, with him right there—felt different. Real.
“So,” you said after a beat, your voice a little quieter now, “what’s the plan? You just gonna hang out in New York for a while? Or…?”
Logan shrugged, but there was something thoughtful in his expression. “Dunno. Figure I’ll stick around, see how things play out. Been on the move too long. Might be time to slow down a bit.”
“Slow down?” you echoed, raising an eyebrow. “You?”
He huffed a laugh, shaking his head. “Yeah, I know. Doesn’t sound like me, does it?”
You smiled, leaning against the counter. “Well, if you’re serious about sticking around, you’d better be ready for a lot of early mornings.”
Logan’s gaze flicked to the flour on your apron and the slight mess on the counter. “Early mornings, huh? Guess I can handle that. Long as there’s coffee.”
You laughed softly, feeling that familiar warmth in your chest again. “I think I can manage that.”
There was another pause, but this time, it wasn’t uncomfortable. It was the kind of quiet that felt… nice. Like neither of you were in a rush to fill the space with words.
Finally, Logan straightened up, glancing toward the door. “Guess I’ll let ya get back to it. Don’t wanna keep you too long.”
You felt a flicker of disappointment, but you quickly pushed it down, giving him a smile instead. “You’re always welcome, you know. Next time, I’ll save you a muffin.”
Logan’s smirk returned, a glint of mischief in his eyes. “I’ll hold you to that, darlin’.”
He took a step toward the door, but then he paused, glancing back at you. “Y/N?”
“Yeah?” you asked, your heart skipping a beat at the way he said your name again.
“Don’t be a stranger,” he said softly, his gaze holding yours for just a moment longer before he turned and walked out the door, the bell above it jingling softly in his wake.
You stood there for a long moment, staring at the door long after he was gone, your heart still racing.
---
Logan’s unexpected visit left you in a whirlwind. For the next few days, it was hard to focus on the usual routines of the bakery. Each time the bell over the door chimed, your heart leapt a little, thinking maybe, just maybe, it’d be him again. But Logan didn’t show, and you tried to remind yourself not to overthink it. He was just… being Logan. Coming and going as he pleased, without a word or explanation.
But then, one evening, just as you were flipping the Open sign to Closed, you noticed something slipped under the door—a folded piece of paper with your name scrawled across it in a familiar, rugged handwriting.
You picked it up, eyebrows furrowing in confusion, and opened it.
Got a place in mind. Be ready at 7. —W
No address. No other details. Just a time and a cryptic note.
You found yourself smiling despite your confusion. Of course, he’d pull something like this. He couldn’t just ask you to dinner like a normal person—he had to be all mysterious about it. But then again, it was part of his charm.
The day passed in a blur. By the time you were getting ready, nerves had settled in. What exactly did Logan mean by ‘got a place in mind’? Was this a date? Just… friends hanging out?
You pushed the thoughts away and focused on getting dressed. Something casual, but not too casual. Comfortable, but still showing you’d put in some effort. You settled on a pair of well-fitting jeans and a soft sweater that was flattering but not over-the-top.
Right at 7, there was a soft knock on your door. You took a deep breath, steeling yourself, and opened it.
Logan stood there, looking the same as always and yet… different. Maybe it was the way he’d traded his usual jacket for a dark button-down, or the fact that he looked a bit unsure himself, his gaze flicking over you in silent appraisal before settling on your eyes.
“You look good,” he said, his voice gruff, but there was an honesty in his tone that made your cheeks warm.
“Not bad yourself, Wolf,” you replied, earning a small, almost shy smile from him.
“Ready?” he asked, holding out his hand.
“Ready,” you confirmed, and you stepped outside, locking the door behind you.
---
Logan had borrowed a bike—one of those big, heavy motorcycles that roared to life when he turned the ignition. He tossed you a helmet, then helped you onto the back. Your hands found their way around his waist, your fingers brushing against the fabric of his shirt, and for a moment, the world seemed to narrow down to just that—your arms around him, the rumble of the engine beneath you, and the feel of his solid form against you.
“Hold on tight, darlin’,” he murmured, his voice low and rough in a way that made you shiver.
The ride through the city was exhilarating, the cool night air whipping past you as Logan navigated the streets with ease. You had no idea where he was taking you, but you trusted him. You’d always trusted him.
Finally, he pulled up to a secluded spot along the East River, away from the usual tourist traps and bustling crowds. You could see the lights of the city skyline reflected in the water, the soft sounds of the river lapping at the shore creating a serene backdrop. There was a small wooden table set up nearby, with a blanket laid out and a picnic basket resting on top of it.
You blinked in surprise, glancing between the setup and Logan. “Did… did you do this?”
Logan rubbed the back of his neck, looking uncharacteristically sheepish. “Yeah, well. Figured we’ve had enough high-stakes meetin’s. Thought you deserved somethin’ different.”
Your heart melted a little at that. He’d gone through the trouble of planning something just for you—a quiet evening, just the two of you, away from the chaos of missions and comms.
“It’s perfect,” you said softly, meeting his eyes.
He gave a small nod, visibly relieved by your reaction. “Good. Now c’mon, let’s eat before it gets too cold.”
The two of you settled down at the table, and you couldn’t help but smile as Logan unpacked the basket. It was mostly simple stuff—sandwiches, fruit, a bottle of wine—but there was an almost endearing quality to it, like he’d put in effort but hadn’t tried to overdo it.
“Didn’t know what you liked, so I kinda… winged it,” he admitted, glancing at you almost nervously.
“It’s perfect,” you repeated, smiling at him. “And honestly? I’m just happy you’re here.”
Logan’s gaze softened, his eyes lingering on you in that way that made your stomach flip. “Yeah. Me too.”
The conversation flowed easily after that. You talked about everything and nothing—the bakery, old missions, even random bits about your lives that had never come up before. He was surprisingly open, and you found yourself sharing more than you usually would, the relaxed atmosphere making it easy to let your guard down.
As the evening went on, you found yourself inching closer to him. At some point, the two of you ended up side by side on the blanket, the picnic basket forgotten as you stared out at the lights reflecting on the water.
There was a comfortable silence, the kind that didn’t need to be filled. You glanced over at Logan, feeling that familiar flutter in your chest. He was looking at you with an expression that was hard to read—soft, almost contemplative.
“What?” you asked softly, feeling a little self-conscious under his gaze.
“Just thinkin’,” he murmured, his voice low and rumbling. “You’re even prettier in person, you know that?”
You felt your face heat up, and you looked away, letting out a soft laugh. “Logan—”
“I mean it,” he interrupted gently, reaching out to brush your cheek. His touch was light, tentative, like he wasn’t quite sure if it was okay. “Been drivin’ myself crazy, wonderin’ what you’d look like. But seein’ you now… Hell, Y/N, I don’t think I did you justice.”
Your breath caught at the way he said your name, his gaze intense and unwavering. There was something raw and honest in his expression, like he was laying himself bare in a way you hadn’t expected.
“Logan…” you whispered, the words dying on your lips as he leaned in, his face inches from yours.
“I shouldn’t be doin’ this,” he murmured, his voice low and almost regretful. But he didn’t move away. If anything, he shifted closer, his breath brushing against your skin. “But I’ve been wantin’ to since the moment I heard your voice.”
Your heart was pounding, every nerve in your body alive with anticipation. “Then don’t stop,” you whispered, your own voice trembling.
Logan’s gaze flicked down to your lips, and for a heartbeat, everything seemed to freeze. Then, slowly—like he was giving you every chance to pull away—he closed the distance, his lips brushing against yours in the softest, most tentative of kisses.
It was gentle at first, like he was testing the waters, but when you didn’t pull back—when you leaned in, your fingers tangling in the front of his shirt—something seemed to break. He deepened the kiss, his hand sliding up to cup your cheek, his thumb brushing lightly against your skin.
The kiss was everything you hadn’t known you’d been waiting for—slow and sweet, but with an underlying intensity that left you breathless. You melted into him, the world around you fading away until there was nothing left but the feel of his lips on yours and the warmth of his hand against your cheek.
When he finally pulled back, his forehead resting against yours, you were both breathing hard, your hearts racing in sync.
“Damn, darlin’,” he murmured, his voice rough and low. “Didn’t think it’d feel like that.”
You laughed softly, your own voice a little shaky. “Yeah. Me neither.”
Logan smiled—a real, genuine smile that made your heart ache. “Think we should do it again?”
You grinned up at him, feeling lighter than you had in ages. “Yeah, Wolf. I think we should.”

Anything involving Kanaan, Hera and Sabine, my favorite broken family of losers (affectionate) Doesn't have to include Ezra and Zeb!
Okay, sorry this took so long! I was busy with marching band and Father's day this weekend. I'm so sorry this took so long and sorry if its not my best work.
Summary: The ghost crew bonds on a beach
"Come on Zeb. It'll be fun! A day of relaxation on an Empire-free planet? What more could ask for?" Kanan said, smiling softly. Zeb crossed his arms skeptically.
"I'm just curious as to how 5 criminals, 6 if you include Chopper, can relax on any planet."
"Hey, this place is remote! No Enpire or civilians, no one's been here on this planet since the entertainment areas closed down."
"Then why are we going?"
"They have a beach." Zeb smiled.
Ezra, who'd been sitting in the cockpit chair, tilted his head. He seemed confused. "What's a beach?"
Kanan chuckled. "I forgot you've never left Lothal really. Uh, how do I describe it?" He scratched his head in thought.
"It's hot. And there's tons of sand. And a lot of water." Zeb deadpanned.
Ezra crinkled his nose in disgust. "How are sand & heat relaxing? Sounds irritating. Not somewhere I can relax."
Kanan sighed "No, Zeb's explaining it wrong. See it when we get there. Just-"
"Just trust you, yadada. I'm gonna go find Hera." And with that, Ezra pushed himself up off the chair and left.
"Hera. What's a beach? Zeb said its hot and filled with sand and water." Hera sighed and rubbed the bridge of her nose.
"Well, it kinda is. Ummm, well, instead of dirt, the ground is made of sand. And after a certain point, the ground dips and there's water. And it's usually sunny. Uh-" Hera saw Ezra huff and cross his arms, looking unconvinced.
"Oh, sorry Ezra. It's hard to describe something when you just know what it looks like. But I'm sure you'll have a good time, the water will feel nice- oh! I have to find a swimsuit for you!" Hera grabbed Ezra by the wrist and dragged him off into her room. Sabine snickered from her room. It would be a while till the Ghost would here from Ezra.
~~~~~■~~~~~■~~~~~~■~~~~~~■~~~~~~■~~~~~
"Alright folks. We're landing in about 30 seconds. Get your swim trunks on & sun lotion better be on everyone's face. Yes, even you Zeb," The Lasat rolled his eyes at the sound of Hera's voice over the comm channel.
Ezra shuffled, in, white lotion covering his face and arms. Sabine laughed. "Ezra, you might have put too much sun lotion on."
He glared at her. "Well, you probably don't have enough on!" He countered.
"I do. C'mon, wipe some of that stuff off." Sabine grabbed a towel and threw it on Ezra's head. "I'm going to go swim. Come join when you're done."
Ezra sighed and Zeb punched his shoulder playfully. "See ya on the beach kid.
~~~~~■~~~~~■~~~~~~■~~~~~~■~~~~~~■~~~~~
"~`||•{•{°{#^#%#*^$&#@*" Chopper garbled.
"Yes, Chopper! I'm going give me a sec!" Kanan felt the droid push him out the ship. As soon as his feet hit the sand, the door into the Ghost shut. Kanan could see Chop waving his mechanical arms around in the cockpit. "Guess no one's heading into the ship till later."
There was a loud shriek and Kanan turned to see Zeb attempting to dunk Sabine. The mandalorian was putting up a good fight but Zeb was bigger and managed to get her under for a few seconds before he slipped in with her.
"Enjoying the view?" Hera asked, placing a hand on his shoulder. He gently tugged her hand down so he could hold it at his side.
"Yes, actually. Chopper's got us locked out till he deems we've had enough fun." Kanan smiled as he walked closer to the beach water. He propped open a sun umbrella as Hera sat on a towel. "For you milady."
"Oh, such a gentleman." Kanan could hear the sarcasm but he saw the tips of her lips curl up in a reluctant smile. The shrieks behind himreluctupgrew louder as Sabine started using explosives in the water.
"Hey, uh, Hera? Should we be doing something about these two? Wait, two? Where's Ezra?" Hera waved her hands dismissively.
"Too many questions at once. Zeb & Sabine are fine. And Ezra's by that boulder. Go over to him I'm trying to enjoy the sun." Hera slipped on her sunglasses and laid down. Kanan kissed her cheek and jogged over to the sulking teen.
Ezra was sitting in shallow water, his knees up close to his chest. He glanced up at kanan. "Hey."
"So, kid. There a reason why you're not hanging with Sabine?" Kanan saw Ezra's cheeks redden. "What, too embarrassed to?"
"No... I...know..... im." Ezra mumbled. Kana struggled to make out words from his padawan's quiet answer.
"Ezra, you gotta speak up." The kid sighed.
"I don't know how to swim." Kanan raised an eyebrow.
"That's it? I thought you were afraid of water."
"I wouldn't be in the water if I was afraid of it, would I?" Ezra snapped. Kanan patted his head.
"Alright grumpy pants." Kanan said, dragging pouting padawan over to the deeper parts of the lake. "I'm gonna teach you how to swim." Once they'd gotten out far enough, Kanan swam nearby as Ezra stood awkwardly in waist-high water. Stars, the kid really looked like a slightly drowned tooka cat.
"C'mon, Ezra. Swim towards me. Just paddle your arms in front and kick your legs. It's - "
"Yeah, yeah. It's easy." The blue-haired teen walked slowly towards Kanan until the water was now up to his neck. He shivered slightly as the water was cool against his skin. Kanan smiled teasingly.
"You gotta move your arms to swim, bud."
"I know, I'm taking my time." Ezra said through gritted teeth. Okay just kick your legs and paddle your arms. He kicked off from the ground and frantically flailed his arms.
"Hey, hey! Easy, you're not going to drown. Slowly paddle towards me." Kanan said encouragingly. Ezra gulped and slowly attempted to swim towards Kanan. When he finally reached him, Kanan grabbed his arms to help keep the kid above the water. The kid really needed to eat more, he was so skinny. "Hey, you're doing great."
"Than-" Ezra's gratitude was out off as he inhaled lake water. He coughed and spluttered.
"Keep your mouth closed while swimming or you'll keep tasting the lake." Kanan felt water splash his neck as they neared Zeb & Sabines water fight. "Wanna see how to win every water fight?" Ezra nodded eagerly. Kanan held out his hand and focused. He reached out to the force and he heard Ezra gasp as the teen saw the large wave growing at Kanan's hand.
"Hey Kanan! Ezra, wanna join?" Sabine said before noticing the towering wall of water. "Wait - "
"Karabast!" yelped Zeb and he and Sabine both ran to shore. They both were pushing each other the whole way and Ezra giggled at the sight.
"You can't escape!" Kanan yelled and with that he released the monstrous wave of water & listened to Zeb & Sabine's screams of delight. His laughter was cut off as Sabine pulled out her water gun. It had been specially modified by Sabine to spray colored water at the victims.
The Mandalorian smiled as both Kanan and Ezra were sprayed with bright pink liquid.
Hera sighed & smiled softly at the shore. The whole crew was now in a heated water fight, with shrieks and laughs echoing throughout the beach. They needed this. Her crew, her family deserved it.
They deserved to be happy.

The problem with babysitting your siblings during patrol is that they get reckless. Just because there's an unknown force saving them without them realizing it, they get complacent.
For example, they lose their fair share of Batarangs.
More specifically, Damian loses a lot of Batarangs.
Inari scowls when she finds another one sitting near the edge of a rooftop. Isn't a Batarang supposed to come back to you?! Why don't you ever pick up after yourself Robin?
She slips it into her collection and jumps down into a street to follow Robin. Casting her invisibility, she waits until he's in an alley with a dead end before flicking the blades one by one.
Fwoop.
One pins down the corner of his cape. Robin halts, pinned into place. "What---" He draws his sword. "Who's there?!"
Fwoop. Fwoop. Fwoop.
Before he can register what's happening, more Batarangs fly by, attaching him to the wall until he can no longer move. His katana drops to the ground when one of the Batarangs catch his gloves and trap him to the wall.
"Show yourself!" Robin growls.
Inari doesn't move from her hiding place. Instead, she snaps a photo with her staff and turns on her earpiece to secretly tune in the family comms line. Unfortunately for Robin, he's not able to turn on his comms.
"Has anybody heard from Robin?" Batman asks.
Inari watches with amusement as Robin tries to reach for his ear but fails miserably.
"He went west, right?" Says Red Robin.
"Red Hood, you're nearest. Check in on his location."
Inari grins and leans back to wait for Jason. Red Hood drops into the alley in no time, takes one look at Robin, and doubles over laughing.
"What---what happened to you?!" Red Hood cackles.
"They appeared out of nowhere!" Robin struggles against the Batarangs. "I am guessing that they are my lost Batarangs."
Red Hood snorts. "They came back to haunt you?"
"This is not a laughing matter, Hood! Free me!"
Red Hood snickers. "Hold on a sec." He puts a finger to his helmet. "Hey, Replacement? Yeah, I did. You have to come here . . . No I won't say why. Just come here."
Next, it's Red Robin's turn to laugh at Robin, who glares and flails.
"Take these away!" Robin yells.
"Yeah, yeah, in a minute." The two vigilantes move to his side and Red Robin snaps a quick photo.
Inari smiles to herself proudly. Lesson learned, Damian.

void/my manifesting journey.
i have been in the manifesting comm for nearly 1.5 years and i switched up my whole life like LITERALLY. without discovering manifesting i probably would be not so happy with my life rn. i do recommend giving it a shot and also check out other blogs to help u. From what i can remember i used both LOAs (law of attraction and law of assumption) but i personally prefer law of assumption as its a lot more easier and we do it all the time. @/ meraskiii on ig provides detailed info of the law of assumption and tips as well so its essential to go check her out and other accs similar. okay i need to stop wafflin shit and actually get straight to the point.
so here are some stories of cases where i got results from manifesting:
sharper jawline - i was like a potato head when i was younger and i never really thought of like manifesting a sharp jawline but i was like ill give it a shot. this was at the very start of my journey and when i first discovered subliminals from a friend (LUVYU A) i listened to the sub for like ig 2 days and i woke up with a fatass improvent like deadass i texted A and was like "JESUS FUCK MY JAWLINE IS SHARP I COULD BUTCHER MEAT" prolly one of my best memories
flat stomach- with a filipino family comes f@tshaming. they were the main reason for my insecurity and they still do it today (unfortunately TT) so after manifesting a sharper jawline i decided to manifest a flatter stomach. it did happen ofc
minishifting- this was after 6 months of discovering shifting and i mixed up two methods and it succeeded. So like i got a clear quartz and placed it in between my forehead and a little more upwards (or in other words where your third eye would be) and counted to 100. after that i did breating excersises: breathe in 4 seconds, hold 4 seconds, out 4 seconds and hold 4 seconds until i was relaxed. while doing that i affirmed that i was calm and safe. after that i just visualised the place where i would wake up in my DR. the place i would wake up in would be a field full of fireflies. and like not even 5 minutes later i felt GRASS and was lowkey starstuck but i remained calm. THEN I FELT LIKE A BUG LAND ON MY ARM AND IT WASNT LIKE A FIREFLY it felt like a normal housefly and i got scared and woke up. i decided to sleep afterwards.
my phone- so my old phone broke after like a month and it was rlly old (it was my aunts) and bc it was broken and my stupid ass decided to throw it around to see if it would fix itself (??) in the end it didnt ofc. so i decided to manifest a purple iphone 12 with unlimited data. guess what 3 weeks later, i walk out the shop with the same exactly a purple iphone 12 with unlimited data. i got rid of the phone due to personal reasons.
reacing the void state for the first time- i never intended to like go into the void state nor use the void state method to shift but i was reading @halokisses 's posts about the void and i decided to give it a shot for fun. i affirmed that i would be in the void in 1-3 minutes and it worked. i was like "woah wait a sec💀" and was fuckign astonished on how quick and easy it was. i was in it for like 5 minutes still shocked and i didnt know what to manifest so i made up my mind and manifested that i would have a sweet dessert the next day (this was on the night of the 28th) and fast forward to the next day iwas served choclate covered strawberries !!!
(all of this is in chronological order)
thats pretty much it lol i deffo recommend manifesting GOOD intentions for everyone!
okay goodnight its literally 2 am

After Nureyev get's poisoned on a mission, he's determined to see it to it's completion. He and Juno make quite the team after all.
Chapter 2
Babe-" his brow knitted together as someone shook him gently. "Babe, time to wake up." The touch was so tender- and yet it set his head off hammering.
Nureyev groaned, hiding his face in the nook of Juno’s neck. A few more minutes in bed wouldn’t hurt.
“Come on Ransom, we’re home.” There was a hand running through his hair he leaned into the touch.  Juno’s words caught up with his mind, we’re home. More importantly, they weren’t alone.
Nureyev’s eyes flew open and locked onto Jet, his expression unreadable. This was not their bedroom aboard the Carte Blanche, this was the hanger, the Ruby; and once again, he was making a scene in front of Jet. Confound it all.
He unfurled best he could, breath catching with the unexpected wave of nausea. His hand pressed to his corset front so that he nearly fell back into Juno.
“Babe?” Through the thick molasses of thought, Nureyev dragged his attention back to the Detective.
“Hmm?” His voice came small and weak, even to his own ears. Still he was determined to project some semblance of normalcy. He forced leadend limbs to extricate himself from the Ruby, Juno right behind.
“The Big Guy has something to say.” The Detective jerked his head towards Jet, his pearl earrings dancing in the light.
“Indeed-” he turned to Nureyev, an extra crease forming in his brow “First, are you alright Ransom? You do not look well.” the Ruby whistled as if in agreement.
Nureyev hummed “Nothing a little rest won’t help-” he rubbed absently at his throat, sure that bruises had made themselves visible. “What- were you going to say?”
“Buddy set the family meeting to take place in one hour's time.” Jet explained. “As we could not hear you during the mission, there are details we require about Mx. Balsa and-”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah Big Guy, we know how the Family Meetings go by now.” Juno cut in hand on hip.
“I find it beneficial to go over procedures to ensure quality performance.”
“Okay, yeah. Guess that makes sense, but-”
There was an explosion that shook the entirety of the carte blanche, nearly toppling Nureyev. Half formed thoughts of security and debt collectors flashed through his mind.
Were they there?  We're they coming for him?
Before they could so much as ask a question, Rita started to wail and Vespa cursed loudly from the direction of the kitchen. Jet excused himself and went to investigate leaving the pair alone with the Ruby.
“The hell was that?” Juno was tense, every muscle in his being straining towards the commotion.  His goddess was ever the curious one.  The scene was enough to make Nureyev smile.
“Oh go on Juno- she may require- your services.”
Juno’s head whipped back to face him, the pearl earrings flashing in the warm light. “But what about you?”
“Me? Why I’ll be fine- Detective.”
His eye was large, soft and unsure. He so wanted to check on his friend and yet, was plainly reluctant to leave Nureyev’s side
“But-”
“We can play doctor later. For now- go-”
That seemed to do the trick. He flushed prettily at that, “Well, if you’re sure-”
“Yes.”
“Okay.” he turned and Nureyev could hear him muttering under his breath “Damnit Rita- If this is another one of your snacks I swear-” before disappearing from sight.
Fine, as it turned out, may have been an overstatement.
As soon as Juno left, he realized just how unwell he felt. He'd half a mind to call the Detective back, or call Vespa-
Vespa-
His head throbbed at the thought of having to see her in such a state. No, a good lie down should surface.
Nureyev wasn't sure how he'd managed to make it back to his room. He felt heavier and heavier with each foot fall, each movement becoming more of a labor. Pain flared at his core, tripping him up. He fell hard into the wall smacking his temple hard enough to see stars.
Get a grip on yourself, he chastised, frustration flashing bright and hot within. He hissed as his stomach lurched, acrid saliva rushing to pool in his mouth. Reflexively, he pressed a hand flat to his stomach, trying to breathe through it. Now he was just being foolish. All that he could do was will himself to not be sick.
Then where would you be- he shook himself glancing up. Still the corridor stretched out long and treacherous. Unyielding in it it's length and tedium.
There was nothing for it but to tredge on.
The closer he got to his room the greater the pain in his abdomen. He leaned on his door and put in the security code with shaking hands. Sweat trickling down his face, his back, plastering the finery to skin.
A fresh stab of pain slammed into Nureyev just as the door swooshed open. He toppled in, the world blurring in a dizzying kaleidoscope of color. It was as though he was in a Martian teleporter again, careening through space and matter, no discernable surroundings, just the fall. He flailed. An eternity later his knees hit hard into the sea of debris masking the floor.
What just happened? He was left to wonder, face pressed into a pile of clothes. Gasping, he attempted to pull himself upright but he couldn’t manage. It didn't make sense! Arms strong enough to scale a building should not feel so weak, so very hard to support- as though bone had been replaced with cast iron.
Nureyev shifted, trying again to sit, maybe get to his bed, his comms- pain ripped through him. This time he couldn't hold back the strangled yell as he convulsed around his middle.
Somewhere, in the back of his mind he realized he could die like this, and there would be nothing he could do.
He sent a silent apology to Juno.
"The Thief still isn't here-" growled Vespa.
"Yeah, I know." Said Juno. It wasn't like Nureyev to be late, especially to something scheduled by the Buddy Aurinko.
"So what could be taking him so damn long Steel."
"Well I'd say it's the sabotage plan Vespa, I hear those are pretty lengthy."
"Oh very funny!"
"Look, I know about as much as you do okay?" Juno shot back, irritation getting the better of him. Okay, so the man didn't give them a name, why the hell did they have to continue to gang up on him? "Last thing he told me before Rita's microwave mishap-"
"It said microwavable on the tin Boss!"
"Yes but you have to take it out before you- god, Okay, look, not the point! Ransom said he wasn't feeling well and wanted a nap before the meeting."
"You are thinking he fell asleep like he did in the Ruby." Jet added thoughtfully while Rita wove elaborate braids into his hair and trimmed away the singed ends.
"Mista Ransom ain't feeling well? You should give him a kiss and make him feel better Mista Steel. Oh! Like in Jovian Princess! Lights Out, where the beautiful princess is awakened from her slumber of a thousand years by the other princess from a warring kingdom! And-"
"Rita dear, you bring up a fine point." Buddy interjected smoothly, "Pete's not here and the only one who can tell us why is Pete. And seeing as he made up a significant part of the heist-"
Juno knew where this was going and was already half out of his seat "I'll get him."
"Thank you darling." Buddy smiled.
The door to Nureyev's room was, predictably, closed. Juno knocked "Babe? You in there?"
No reply.
Frowning he tried again "Babe?"
Nothing.
"I'm coming in."
The doors swooshed open to reveal the environmental hazard that was his boyfriend's room. The bed was empty, if you didn't count crumpled paper, and mounds of equipment and clothes. Hell, the man could use a few cleaning tips-
He spotted a molded plate of- something-
Or an encyclopedia...
He cast his eye about, trying to make sence of the "I-Spy" chaos of the room, before giving up to look elsewhere when he spotted a leg in the mess.
"Nureyev!" Juno couldn't help but call out fear spiking in his chest. The man was lying on his side, curled up around his middle, racked in tremors. Tangled in the mess around him enough to be camouflaged.  "Nureyev! Hey, hey hey babe-'' he dove to his side, carefully rolling him up into his arms. He whimpered faintly, protesting the movement. "I'm here, what's wrong?"
Tenderly, Juno smoothed back the hair sticking to his clammy brow. Hell, why was he so cold?
"Ju-no-" normally, Juno loved the way Nureyev said his name. As though it were a damned love language all its own.  But now it was a small broken thing as though he'd put all his strength into it. As though he were surprised Juno was there at all. He was looking at him with those eyes again, but the brightness was…. strange- glassy. It was taking him too long to focus. "Ju-no-" his chest stuttered "I- ugh-" he collapsed further in on himself, face contorting in pain. All this took seconds, but might as well have been an eternity.
"Nureyev! Come on babe, don't do that!" Juno's mind spun wildly. He wasn’t dealing with some mask now, not Rex Glass, or Duke Rose, not even Peter Ransom. No, this was Peter Nureyev striped bare- and he was in serious pain. The man keened in a way that was so very wrong for him. The sound was barely above a whisper yet cut Juno to his core.
“H-hurts-”
“I-I know babe, just- just give me a sec- Just-”
That's when he saw it, the odd discoloration of Nureyev's lips. He'd missed at first because of the faint pigment that clung to his features. His words of a few hours ago came floating back 'just a tad under the weather... something I drank…'
He had told him.
Hours ago.
He had told him hours ago and Juno had done nothing.
Steel you goddamned idiot! He scrambled for his comms, murmuring assurance to his thief as he went, trying to ease him back open. He couldn't squash the rising panic now.
"Steel, what the hell-"
"We need help! Vespa- please!" Nureyev stilled again, his chest working overtime, producing short, shallow bursts of air. Arm wrapped over the corsets front.
Goddamned it! His corset!
Juno swore loudly into the comms, tossing them down on speaker, "I went looking for him, and, Christ-" his hand slipped on a fastening, slicing deep into his palm. Why were these clasps so hard do undoo? "H-h-he's sick Vespa, really sick. Dammit I- I think he was poisoned-"
“Poisoned?” Even through the fear fogging his brain he could hear the scrape of chairs and pounding feet. “What do you mean by that Steel?”
“Poisoned! You know, when something gets into your body that isn’t supposed-” Nureyev’s hand closed around his wrist, shocking him out of the pointless rant. As if trying to stop Juno from undoing more of the fastenings. “It’s gotta come off babe-”
“Nn-no-” he choked out.
"You need to breathe Ransom-" he said, easily breaking his grip. That too was wrong but there wasn't time for that. Nureyev curled with each fastener undone, gasping and trembling. It was hard for Juno to not feel like the worst girlfriend in the Galaxy.
"Course I know what poisoning is!" Vespa snapped "what I don't know is how the hell did he manage to get himself poisoned."
At some point Nureyev had turned into Juno, a hand tangling in his shirt, the other clamped around his stomach as tightly as he could manage. The movements were odd clumsy things that lacked his usual precision, his grace.
He was quite then, an eerie silence that spoke of years of hidden spaces and dangerous places. Normally he'd be trying to be as useful to Vespa as possible, filling her in on the necessary details. But not now.
Juno hated that more than anything else.
"The mission. There was some sort of stupid test- a-a-and he told me not to drink it! Damnit it! He told me! I-I never even thought that he might of-"
“Cool it Steel.” Vespa cut in, not unkindly. “I’m getting the Med Bay setup. You gonna bring him to us, or should I send the gurney?”
Nureyev was long, lean and wiry. Not the easiest person to move around but Juno managed it before. Admittedly, those were more entertaining moments, but the presidents still stands.
“I’ll bring him.”
“Great. Move the thief, and I’ll be ready for you.” at any other time that may have sounded like a threat, but now it sounded like the most reassuring thing he’s ever heard.
All he had to do was move Nureyev, he could do that.
Juno glanced down at the man holding onto him like a lifeline, his face tucked into the popped collar of his coat. He hadn’t even taken it off. God-
Carefully, Juno shifted him, Nureyev hissed, pressing closer.
What was he supposed to do with that? Juno took a deep steading breath of his own, running his fingers through Nureyev’s damp locks in what he hoped to be a comforting manor.
“Okay babe, we’re going to have to move you” perhaps telling him would make it easier. He tried again, sweeping his arm behind his shoulders and lifting. Only for his foot to catch on the coat trane, he tripped shaking the nameless thief something fierce-
Nureyev cried out at the jostling- folding so that his gangly form nearly slipped through Juno's grasp. They just made it to the bed before his hold broke. The Thief spilled onto the unmade covers, holding his stomach, eyes squeezed shut. Breathing, just, breathing.
Juno knew that look. And Dammit he was the one that put that look there. After he swore to himself that he’d never hurt him again.
Nope, no, ugh-ah, no way in hell could he do this- He’d have to call for a stretcher after all.
“You comin some time this century, Steel?”
How long had they been there? “I- it’s hurting him.”
“Jesus Steel! Better pain than death!”
"But-" his brain caught up to his mouth, "yeah-" what the hell was wrong with him? He'd try again but first the coat had to go.
The Detective essed an arm over his shoulders before gathering the rest of the thief. Long limbs sitting strangely in the Lady's hold. There was a lot to manage, but manage, Juno did. It got easier after the hell scape of Nureyev's room.
Nureyev's head lolled against Juno's neck, as though he couldn't support its weight.
"Hang on babe." Juno wheezed "just- for me, please-"
His lungs were tight and his legs burned, his burden heavier with each step, but it hardly mattered, they were nearly there now-
"Vespa!" He shouted, he'd forgotten the comms, "I got him!"
"Bout damn time! A Rengian sea slug could of moved faster!" She said, all the same indicating the operating table.
Juno had to raise up on tip toe to clear Nureyev onto the bedding. The man fell away with a piteous groan, fingers digging into the ruined shirt front.
"I know Babe, I know- We are having you looked at though."
That didn't seem to calm him down, if anything he became more distressed. Tried to raise himself up, move his legs, only to collapse back.
"Babe- babe come on-"” at a loss, Juno cupped Nureyev’s face in one hand, while the other was planted firmly on the man’s chest, mirroring the frantic dance of his own crappy lungs. “Ransom- babe, you’re- okay now”
“Jun-no- I don' feel- well-” it looked like it was hard for him to say, and not just because the words came out heavily accented and slurred.
“I know babe, Vespa is on it.”
"Vess-pa?" He glanced over, eyes widening at the acid green.
"Yeah Ransom, it's me."
Was it his imagination? Or did Nureyev seem to recoil? Shrinking in on himself as though trying to protect vitals.
"Ransom, hey hey hey-" he tried to refocus him.
"Hold 'im steady, I need a blood sample."
"Rr-right." He said, pressing Nureyev back into the covers. The man offered no resistance and Juno was left anxiously thumbing his cheek while the deed was done.
Vespa pushed him out of the way after that, cursing at her inspection of the thief and kept barking questions Juno's direction like:
"When did he get poisoned?” and “How much did he take?” and “What symptoms did the thief present?”
There were only a few questions Juno was equipped to answer. The mounting unknowns were only adding to his pile of worry. God, if Nureyev dies because he wasn’t paying attention- dies because he hadn't watched him more? Or at the very least got him checked out after puking his guts out in an ally.
The man had been poisoned right in front of him and Juno hadn’t noticed.
The man had been poisoned right in front of him and hadn’t thought to tell Juno-
Juno couldn't help but wonder why?
Vespa cut away Nureyev's shirt, exposing the narrow muscled frame and the delicate criss cross of scars.  The ones he didn't bother remove.
Weren't they partners?
She attached wireless monitors over his heart, his pulse points. Getting Juno to help clear away the rags.
Did he still not trust him?
There was more swearing as their resident doc looked at the blood readings, already plugging something into the system. Christ, he was useless with computers, but even he knew that heartbeat was weak.
He couldn't help feel as though he were useless to Nureyev too-
Then he noticed it- Nureyev's chest had stopped moving.
"Vespa!" He called out fear clawing at his insides. To her credit, she saw it right away.
"Goddamn it thief! I'm not done with you yet!" Rather than trying to get his lungs working again, she tore into her supplies with the care and ferocity of a sewer rabbit navigating it's tunnels. Everything remained impeccably organized, if a little man handled. The monitor started to sound urgently.
"There-" she said in triumph, holding out a large vial.
He couldn't understand what the big deal was-. Too preoccupied with the still form Infront of him.  "Vespa, he's not-"
"It's liquid oxygen moron," she said, filling a syringe "this way we have time to intubate."
"Intubate?" That was- serious- hell, Juno had it done before and the weeks of respiratory therapy were enough of a deterrent to avoid a third encounter-
Well, as much as someone in his line of work could-
The needle was worked into Nureyev's arm, and the contents released. The monitor began to calm down, but Vespa didn't slow.
"You need to leave Steel." She growled. "Now."
He looked at her incredulous, how the hell did she think that he could leave at a time like this? He was about to say as much too when she elaborated
"You don't want to see this."
"But"
"I Said Out! I can't babysit you both!"
It might as well have been a knife to the gut. Juno took one glance more at Nureyev, frozen on the table, and walked out.

https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13876994/1/Time-Travel-To-the-Past-Yoda-Goes
Summary: A time traveling Grandmaster, to the Prequel Era, trying to fix the mistakes the Jedi made, and get rid of a certain Sith too. Only Time Travel is not that easy, as Yoda will soon learn.
Hello Everyone, I've added chapter 21 to Time Travel: To the Past Yoda Goes. Below is a small selection. Click the links above to read more.
Chapter 21 - Overruled!
“Look at this, Master Yoda.” Anakin held his hand out and concentrated.  The learning block on the floor started to shake and rattle.
Yoda remembered when he used ordinary stones to teach Luke the very same thing.  “Concentrate,” he told him.
“Hold on a sec.  I did it last night.”  Anakin concentrated his face even harder.
“Feel the Force.  Flow through you, it does.” Yoda remembered his son had the same trouble.  He’d try too hard and forget to just do it.
After a while the block floated up in the air.  When it made contact with Anakin's hand he opened his eyes wide.
“Yes, Master.  Anakin practiced hard last night,” Obi-Wan said.
“Aah, good.  Quickly you learn,” Yoda praised.  Anakin smiled proudly.  “Keep practicing, you should.  Speak to your Master, I will.”  Yoda led Obi-Wan to the other side of the room.  They were both within view of Anakin, but far enough away to talk privately.
“Your help, I would like, Knight Kenobi.  A Crime Lord on Nar Shaddaa we are going to arrest.  A shadow, hidden in his ranks, too, we have.  Bring her home, we must.  Help her to readjust back to Temple life, you can.  Helpful to have a familiar face there, It will be.”
“A familiar face?”  Obi-Wan repeated, startled.  “Who do I know that is on a Shadow assignment?”
“Know her, you will.  This secret yet, I cannot tell.  Not until, safely in our custody, she is.”
“Okay, I guess.  Uh, when are you expecting to bring her in?”
“The day after tomorrow, Fifteen hundred hours, they should arrive.”
“Oh, uh.” Obi-Wan shifted nervously.  “I had plans, but I’ll shift them.  Yeah, I’ll be there.”
“Good.  Good, this is.”  Yoda chuckled as his plans were coming together.

"So?" Anakin pestered.  "What did Master Yoda want?"
Obi-Wan put a hand on his back as they walked back to their rooms.  "Well, I'm not really sure, but he wants my help.  Listen." He turned to face Anakin.  "In two days Bant was going to give you a special swimming lesson in the Healer's pool.  I will have to be helping Yoda then.  You can still meet Bant and take her lesson, but I can also comm her and ask to reschedule."
Anakin looked down, then back up.  "Well, I don't want to go without you, but It'll be nice to see Bant again.  She's nice, and I wanna ask her about the girl."
"Hmm?"
"The fat girl from my dreams.  It felt like Bant was in a couple of them.  I think she knows her."
"You've had that dream again?"
"Um-hmm.  Only it's a bit different sometimes.  Sometimes she's with the spider instead of Bant," Anakin explained.
Obi-Wan nodded.  They continued into their residence, and Anakin started his homework.  Obi-Wan sat down with his datapad.  He pulled up it's connection to the Archives and typed "Dreams," into the search box...

may I get flower prompt Daffodil for Hannah please?
I know it’s taken a bit to put this together, but I finally have something for you :D Thank you for the prompt, and I hope you like it!
Also on AO3!
Daffodil: A new beginning
The two years that passed between the first call and the second had felt more like twenty. It had been like a pocket dimension, not apart from but beside her main reality. While Hannah had noticed some grays starting to glisten in her hair after the Battle of the Citadel, a shock of white now streaked her hair, a constant reminder of what Alchera had taken from her.
Not that she hadn’t known at least some of what happened after the attack. Right when she’d started to put her life back together, her eyes and ears on the inside of Cerberus had broadsided her with the news: Alli was alive. That archeologist had helped those terrorists to recover her daughter’s burned and broken body, and they proceeded to do unspeakable abominations to her.
“Han, I can hear you grinding your teeth from here, and I’m several mass relays away,” Dess’s voice called Hannah back to the present.
She shook her head to clear her thoughts. “Sorry, sweetheart. I was just . . . Alli’s remanded herself to the Alliance. She’s under house arrest while a tribunal figures out whether to indict her for treason.”
“So when do you plan to go see her?” Dess’s voice was carefully even, but Hannah heard the question all the same. Are you going to see her?
“I . . . don’t know.” Hannah untwisted her hair and let it fall over her shoulder so she could run her fingers through it. “What if . . . what if it’s not really her? What if she’s a clone? Or worse, what if she’s not all there anymore? What if Cerberus did something to her to make her easier to control, emptied her out? What if she’s . . . not Alli, anymore?”
Dess hummed as she considered. “But what if it is her?” she said at last.
Hannah nodded. “You’re right. I’ll leave first thing in the morning.”
#
Hannah had been part of the Alliance Navy her entire adult life, and still, the brick wall walking her down the hall to the brig, his face gently lit by the haptic interface of the datapad he held, was a rare specimen. The tattoos, the muscles, the yellowing bruises and pale pink, healing scars across his face. She wondered briefly if those were Alli’s handiwork, but dismissed the idea. However bulky this marine was, Alli could take him down using only her feet if she really wanted to, and it would be a while before he could walk upright again.
“I’m glad you’re here, Ma’am,” the walking mountain—Lieutenant Vega, that was his name—said as they progressed toward Alli’s cell. “The commander has been pretty antsy since she arrived.”
That sounded like Alli. A wave of nausea overtook Hannah, and she had to place a hand on Vega’s substantial arm to pause for a moment.
“I guess it’s been a while since you’ve been on Earth, huh,” he said, his demeanor more casual than Hannah was used to. “If you need to use the head, it’s just around the corner on the right. I’ll wait here.”
She nodded and walked stiffly in the direction he’d pointed. By the time she pushed open the door, she was sure she wouldn’t need to make use of the facilities, but she’d take the time to collect herself all the same.
Running a paper towel under cool water, she pressed the compress against the back of her neck and closed her eyes. As she leaned over the counter, Hannah wondered if Vega had just been trying to be delicate. Was it obvious how nervous she was to see her daughter—her dead daughter, no less—for the first time in more than two years, knowing what she did about how Alli had become not-dead again?
Part of Hannah wanted to run to Alli, hold her as tightly as her body would allow, never let her go again. The other part was terrified of what she would find when she looked into Alli’s eyes. No one goes from death to life unaffected by the transition.
Taking a final deep breath, Hannah tossed the now-warming compress and returned to Vega, her hands only shaking slightly. No time like the present.
They walked the rest of the way to Alli’s quarters in silence, not that Hannah had said much at all up to this point. She was saving all her words for her daughter.
Finally, they came to a stop in front of what Hannah could surmise was her daughter’s door. “You ready?” Vega asked, his hand hovering above the red lock.
“Yes, thank you, Lieutenant,” Hannah nodded. “I’m ready.”
The door hissed open and Vega walked inside ahead of Hannah. “Commander Shepard, you have a visitor. Captain Hannah Shepard.”
Whatever opinion Hannah had been forming of Vega, his insistence on referring to Alli by her rank had permanently endeared him to her. He saluted, and Hannah returned it, dismissing him. The door closed behind him, and Hannah finally brought herself to look at the woman standing in front of her.
For a moment, it felt like she was looking in a mirror of herself from twenty years ago. Alli had let her hair go back to its vibrant red—or perhaps she just hadn’t had a moment to dye it black again. She had the same straight posture from the years of training Sana had given her, her shoulders square and her knees loose. Light scars criss-crossed her jaw and cheeks—those were new . . . and glowing? And her eyes. They were determined and curious and pleading all at once.
There was no mistake.
“Alli.” Though barely a whisper, Hannah’s voice broke as the tears welled and spilled freely.
It was a blur after that. Alli rushing across the room and sobbing into Hannah’s shoulder. Hannah hardly able to breathe as she held the child she feared she’d never see again. Tear-soaked sorry’s and pleas for Hannah to believe her.
Hannah stroked Alli’s hair and breathed deep, taking in her scent the way she had when Alli was a baby. It was a different smell now—standard-issue shampoo, sweat, and a hint of sweet pea blossoms, the same subtle perfume she’d always worn. She shuddered to think what Alli had been through, what she’d seen waking up lassoed to Cerberus’s whims. No amount of shushing or cradling would heal anything Alli had been through in the last months and years, and Hannah felt helpless to soothe her.
“Tell me everything, Starshine,” Hannah said instead.
And Alli did. The destruction of the SR-1. Lazarus Station. The missing colonists and the Collectors. The battle at the Galactic Core. Project Rho and the three hundred thousand batarians. Hannah had heard some of it from scant intelligence reports and her moles in Cerberus itself, but nothing like what Alli described.
“They want to try me as a war criminal,” Alli said as she swiped at the tears that had started to dry, her voice deflated and overworked. “But I swear, Mom, I did everything I could. It was either the colonists or the rest of the galaxy. Not both.”
Hannah squeezed Alli’s hands. “I know, Starshine. I know.”
A flash of anger came into Alli’s eyes and she began to pace the small room. “The Hegemony has had it out for me ever since Torfan. What they can’t seem to get into their thick, wrinkly heads is that I’m trying to save them too.”
Hannah sat at the edge of the bed and let Alli work off some of her energy. Alli never had been one to take a breath and calm down. She was like a hurricane—once she’d started there was no stopping her. All anyone could do was let her burn herself out.
“This Harbinger,” Hannah said instead. “Did they say how long we have?”
Alli crossed her arms and shook her head. “Of course not. But it’ll be sooner rather than later. And the more time I’m sitting in the brig waiting for this stupid tribunal to figure out which platter they want to serve my head on to the batarians, the less time we’re out there hardening our defenses and comm buoys and supply lines.”
“What about your team?” Hannah prodded. Alli had always inspired such trust and loyalty from the people she led. If any one of them took some initiative, they might be able to make progress where Alli couldn’t right now.
She let out a long breath, like the oxygen escaping a compromised air lock, and dropped next to Hannah, leaning forward with her elbows resting on her knees. “I honestly don’t know. Tali went back to the Fleet, and even if I was on the outside, I doubt I’d have much communication with her. Miranda and Jacob disappeared almost as soon as we landed to get away from The Illusive Man and his goons. Everyone else pretty much scattered, and I don’t really have a way to communicate with them. I’m sure the Alliance even has this conversation bugged.”
Hannah hummed. Alli was probably right about that. “What about Garrus? Do you think he still has contacts in C-Sec?”
“If his dad still worked there, then maybe.” Alli’s eyes lit up. “Yes! Dess could help him! Do you think she would pull some strings?”
Hannah bit her lip and slowly shook her head. “She’s volunteering on Taetrus, Starshine. She hasn’t been to the Citadel in months.”
Her brows knit together in apology. “Oh, Mom, I didn’t know. How are you holding up?”
Hannah shrugged and swallowed whatever emotion threaten to rise in her throat. “We’re not talking about me.” She reached over and placed her hand behind Alli’s head, pulling her close to kiss her forehead. “We’ll figure something out. I’m just so happy to see you, Starshine.”
“Oh, come on, Mom,” Alli said, a tone of embarrassment in her voice that belied her leaning into the affection. “You’re going to start crying again if you keep that up.”
Hannah chuckled. “Believe me, I’m not done crying over you. Now. Speaking of Garrus.”
“Mother, please,” Alli said, pulling away from Hannah this time. “I’m not a teenager anymore.”
“I met him at your . . . before.” Hannah still couldn’t bring herself to say funeral. “He seems like a good sort. A little confused, but earnest. I think he was taken with you.”
“I’m not talking about this with you.” Alli stood and paced toward the small desk by the window, color starting to creep up her cheeks. “And whatever you do, don’t . . . speculate with Dess, okay? She’ll probably threaten to break his mandibles if he hurts me or whatever.”
“So, there is something going on!”
“Mother!”
Hannah put up her hands in surrender. “All right, all right. I won’t pry. I promise.”
Alli turned around again, her shoulders visibly relaxing. “Thanks. I’ve got enough on my plate. I don’t need . . . distractions.”
Before Hannah could respond, the door to the room opened and Vega stood with all his hulk on the other side with an apologetic look in his eyes. “Time’s up, Ma’am.”
Hannah nodded. “Thank you, Lieutenant. Just one more minute, please.”
He nodded and stepped aside, leaving the door open. Hannah stood and walked the few steps to Alli, putting her arms around her daughter one more time.
“Sometimes the important things look like distractions when you’re not paying attention,” she said lowly in Alli’s ear. “We have some very hard times ahead of us. So pay attention.”
Alli returned the embrace and buried her face in Hannah’s shoulder. “Thanks, Mom. I will.”
Hannah did an admirable job, if she did think so herself, of not falling apart as she left Alli’s room. For as dark as the future looked, a dizzying lightness had overtaken Hannah.
She had Alli back.

Part 1, Part 2

Summary: You and Poe has been together for a while and you knew that nothing could ever change the way you thought about him... or so you thought.
Notes: I realized I have waaayyy too much Poe fluff stuff lined up so I decided to change it up a bit and fuck around, you know maybe make myself cry. I didn’t really know how to end this so it’s a little bit weird. The gif isn’t mine.
Masterlist ~ Prompts/Requests
Tumblr media
You walked through the halls of the Resistance base towards the hangar. There was supposed to be an attack on the First Order soon so people were running everywhere to get ready. As you walked into the hangar and towards the Black Squadron ships a pair of hands came over your eyes.
“Guess who?” The voice asked even though you already knew.
“Mm... Admiral Ackbar?” You guessed jokingly as you turned into the arms of Poe Dameron.
“Um no, definitely not.” Poe scoffed. “How are you y/n?”
You and your sister, Elizabeth or Bess, had joined the Resistance at the same time about seven years ago. Very soon after you joined, you were introduced to Poe. There was an instant connection between the two of you and you became fast friends. But your feelings for each other eventually became obvious to everyone but yourselves. After Poe had been captured by the First Order, everybody thought he was dead and you were beside yourself with grief at not only loosing your best friend, but never getting the chance ever again to tell him that you loved him. So when he was saved by Finn, you thanked the maker for a second chance and it turned out that Poe had a very similar thought process. The day you two confessed your feelings was one of the happiest days of your life and the day where everybody on base’s favorite otp finally came true.
“I should be asking you that question, you’re about to go fly off into battle! But please, be careful out there okay? I love you too much to lose you.” You reached up to kiss him gently.
“You know I’m always careful. I love you too-” Before Poe could finish, a pair of arms had been slung over both Poe and your shoulders.
“What’s up losers? Are you ready to kick some stromtrooper ass?” Your sister laughed as she made her way in between you guys.
When you and Bess had joined the Resistance, she immediately began training and eventually became a pilot now part of the Black Squadron underneath Poe, but you had climbed the ranks to become General Organa’s right hand.
“Hell yeah!” Poe laughed as you smiled at the two of them.
“Elizabeth,” You started turning to your little sister. She rolled her eyes at the full name, “Promise me that you won’t go jumping into danger out there, okay?”
“Yeah yeah I know. I promise.” Just then, a voice came on the loud speaker directing all pilots to their x-wings. “Alright, gotta go big sis. I’ll see you on the other side!” You watched as she climbed into her ship and got ready.
“I love you!” You called after her, to which she just threw you back a heart shape with her hands.
“Hey what about me?” Poe asked from beside you with a pouty look on his face.
“What about you?” You giggled as he drew you closer by the waist and rested his chin on your head. “I’m just kidding, I love you too. Please look out for her up there.”
“You know I always do.” He smiled warmly at you and pressed a kiss to your forehead. Then a final warning for pilots to get to their ships came onto the loud speaker, breaking the two of you apart.
“Ok, you have to go now.”
“Aye aye captain,” he grinned and pulled you back for another kiss. “I love you.” You watched and waved as the x-wings pulled out of the hangar and shot into the sky.
~
You stood with Leia and the other leaders of the Resistance in the command room (??) around the comms as the battle raged on far away in space.
“There’s a lot more tie fighters coming out of the destroyer Black Leader,” Bess said over the comms to Poe. Your knuckles turned white as your hands gripped the side of the table harder. Leia looked over at you and patted your hand comfortingly.
“They’ll be alright, they are both fantastic pilots. They’ll make it back ok.” You gave her a tight lipped smile in thanks, but somehow you weren’t reassured. You watched the panel that showed how many ships were still in action closely, thankful to see that Bess and Poe’s ships were not filled in with red.
“Alright guys, here’s the plan,” You heard Poe say to the rest of the squadron. “Javos and Kun you guys are going to swing right, Bess and Pava are going to swing left, and Snap and I will come on straight. Green Squadron will cover us. Got it?” A series of ‘copy’ followed Poe’s directions. Since you couldn’t be there to watch what was going on, all you could do was wait through the anxiety and just hope to whatever higher power that they would all turn out fine.
“Poe I don’t think it’s working! You’ve got about six of them on your tail! We’re trying, but we can’t hold off all of them!” Someone from Green Squadron yelled through the comms.
“We just have to keep going! If anyone sees the reactor, shoot it. I don’t care if you break formation!” Poe commanded the other pilots. “We don’t want to pull out of this without doing any damage!”
“I see it! I see it! I’m going in!” Bess shouted excitedly. Other officers in the room breathed a sigh of relief, if someone saw the reactor and was able to get a good shot at it, then the Resistance would be saved for now. But you kept your breath held in anticipation.
“Come on Bess, come on Bess...” you muttered under your breath. You knew that destroying this reactor was extremely important to the Resistance, but if it meant losing your sister, you’d rather the mission fail.
“I’m almost there... I’ll be in range in about four sec-” She was cut off before she could finish her sentence and crackling was left in place of her voice. “I’m hit! I’m hit! Right wing, blaster is down! I’ve only got one left!” She came back after a moment of white noise from her comms.
Your eyes went wide and you sucked in a harsh breath. You didn’t know what to do or what to think. If she wasn’t able to recover... you didn’t know what you would do.
“Bess! Pull out! Get away from there and give your droid the chance to fix it!” You commanded through the comms once you had pushed your way through the person communicating directly with them.
“I- I can’t y/n.” Her voice was barely a whisper and you knew exactly what she was going to do. “The damage is done and I’m too close. We won’t get a chance like this ever again.”
“Elizabeth please, I can’t live without you.” You pleaded with her as tears formed in your eyes.
“I’m sorry y/n, I love you always.”
“I love you too Bess-” You were cut off as the line went silent and you knew what had happened. Things moved in slow motion, everything around you became muffled and blurry. The strangled sound that you made was heart wrenching as you crumbled to the floor. You didn’t notice other officers in the room catch you as you fell or Leia come to comfort you. You didn’t hear Poe apologizing to you over the comms or hear other pilots saying that she did it or the order to return to base. All you could focus on was that your sister, your best friend, was gone and you were never going to see her again.
After some amount of time, someone exclaimed that the pilots were back and that the mission had been a success. But the mission hadn’t been a success. How could something be a win when you lost the single most important thing in your life? Yes the Resistance had been saved, but your life had been destroyed. You were unaware that you were moving and leaving the command center until you were inside the hangar and heading towards Poe’s x-wing.
He saw you walking towards him and starting moving your way to meet you. You didn’t see his puffy eyes or red face, all you saw was the face of a man who you had trusted everything with but had let you down in the worst way possible.
“Y/n I’m sorry I tried-” he reached out a hand for you but you slapped it away.
“You’re sorry? You’re sorry? You killed my sister!” You screamed at him. Angry tears were running down your face and your fists were clenched so tightly that your nails dug into your palms, sure to leave marks later on. “I trusted you! You were her commanding officer and you let her go into that and die! You promised me that you would protect her! But you didn’t, you sent her on a suicide mission! You told her that it was okay for her to try and hit that damned reactor! That wasn’t even her job!”
“Y/n please, I- I tried to save her. I didn’t mean for her to die. Bess-”
“Don’t you dare say her name! You don’t deserve to say her name after what you’ve done!” You cried angrily. You didn’t even know what was going on around you or what was happening. “You took her away from me! I’m never going to see her again because of you!” Suddenly your knees gave out and you fell to the floor in a fit of tears.
“Y/n please-” Poe pleaded with tears streaming down his own face as he tried to comfort you.
“Don’t touch me! I never want to speak to you again!” And then you were in Leia’s arms as you cried into her shoulder on the ground. She looked at Poe sorrowfully over your shoulder.
“Just give her time” She mouthed to him. He nodded, wiped the tears from his face, took one last look at you, and then headed off to the other direction away from you and Leia.
“Shh... it’s okay. Elizabeth died protecting those that she loved. She died a hero.” Leia murmured to you as she stroked your hair and comforted you in that way that only a mother can. After a moment you collected yourself and wiped your face.
“I’m sorry Leia, I just-”
“Shh darling, it’ll be alright. How about you get some rest and tomorrow we’ll talk?” You nodded and she got someone to bring you to your quarters. Once there you didn’t know what to do with yourself, so you just lay down in bed and let what tears were left roll down and onto your pillow. You didn’t know what was going to happen to you, or what was going to happen to you and Poe. But all you knew was that at least at the moment, you weren’t able to face Poe.
Although your sister was gone, it was some consolation that she had died a hero and died protecting everything and everyone she loved.

Citadel Noire
Chapter one
Chapter two
“How are you two doing at Purgatory?” Buttercup asked over the comm as her and Kaidan sat outside the suspect’s apartment. “Behaving yourself Jacob?” she teased earning a chuckle from her boyfriend.
“Always baby, chatted up a few club goers and they all told us the same thing.”
“Which would be…?”
“We need to talk to Aria T’loak.”
Buttercup rested her forehead against the steering wheel “Of course we do….alright well, keep me posted yeah?” Aria hated the Citadel, lucky for her she had pull among the council so she was basically untouchable, it certainly didn’t help that she despised cops, Omega wasn’t known for it’s stellar law enforcement if it even had any.
“Roger that, Taylor out.”
Buttercup sighed as she watched the apartment through the sky car's window. “Stakeouts are so boring.” she practically whined, in all truthfulness Kaidan wasn’t a fan either, but he was patient by nature, unlike the woman next to him.
“You just want to be with Jacob.” He teased.
“Ha! Fair, I’ve seen that man in casual wear, I’m sure he’s getting all kinds of looks right now, none of them from me.” she looked over at Kaidan “but anyway, how did it go with the victim’s mom?”
Kaidan shifted in his seat “About as bad as usual, never an easy thing to hear that your only child was murdered.”
Buttercup sighed “Hopefully we can find whoever this Morinth is and put a stop to it, I mean how do you kill someone with a brain hemorrhage? Especially if there aren’t any external injuries, I’ve never seen anything like that.”
“I don’t know Butters, let’s just hope Jacob can charm his way into Aria’s heart.” Kaidan replied.
“Please, have you met him? Of course he can.”
“Hey Buttercup, can I ask you something?”
“What’s up Kai?”
“You and Jacob, how do you make that work?”
“What do you mean?”
“Like with work and everything, doesn’t it complicate things?”
Buttercup leaned back in her chair “Hmmm, not really, I mean it certainly helps that we work together but we trust our partner’s with our lives, hell we spend nearly every waking moment with them, if anything our relationship had deepened that, sure we could get into it at home and bring it to work but i’m not the type for that and neither is he.” she looked at him “why do you ask?”
Kaidan shook his head “No reason.”
“Really? It seems like an awfully odd question to ask out of the blue.”
“Just curious, that’s all.”
“Is that right? I thought what co-workers do outside of work was ‘none of your business’ at least that’s what you told me.” Kaidan was quiet “are you interested in someone at work mayhaps?” she pried.
“Don’t be ridiculous.” He said, trying to brush her off.
“Is it Chambers?”
Kaidan chuckled “Absolutely no-”
“Because I heard her call Garrus sexy the other day so-”
Kaidan finally looked at her “Garrus? She uh….she likes Garrus?”
“I think lust is more accurate but yeah, apparently she’s into aliens.”
Kaidan felt a pang of jealousy in his heart “Oh…”
Buttercup took a sip from her water bottle, his reaction seeming a bit odd “Kaidan, do you like Garrus?”
His face turned the brightest red she’d ever seen and  he looked out the window “No! At least not like that, he’s my partner that’s all.”
“Um hello? Who do you think you’re talking to.”
Kaidan sighed “Just drop it okay?”
“For now but once we’re-”
“Butters you there?” Jacob asked over her comm.
“What’s up babe?”
“We’re on our way to Morinth’s apartment, we figured out what happened to Nef,” Kaidan and Buttercup locked eyes before moving in close so he could hear “Morinth definitely killed her, apparently she’s an ardat-yakshi.”
“What the hell does that mean?”
“Put bluntly she kills people she mates with because of some rare genetic mutation, apparently she’s a frequent flyer at Purgatory.”
“Shit...how many more victims?”
“Don’t know, she ran around Omega too according to Aria, just be careful.”
Buttercup scoffed “She kills with sex and we don’t have any intention to sleep with her.”
“Yeah but she’s gone this long without getting caught, who knows what tricks she has, so be careful and wait for us.”
Buttercup nodded “Yeah, okay, see you soon.” She hated waiting but he was right, who knew what else she had in store for them.
“Death by hook-up.” Kaidan said as he loaded his gun.
“Looks like it, maybe we should just say brain hemorrhage if her mother asks.” Buttercup suggested as she reached for her vest, unlike Kaidan and Jacob she didn’t have a fancy biotic barrier to keep her safe.
 “Good idea.”
It wasn’t long before Garrus and Jacob joined them and they quickly made it up to her apartment, they hadn’t seen her leave since they got there so it was a safe bet she was inside and hopefully not with another victim.
“Ya’ll ready?” Buttercup asked, waiting for the three men to nod before she kicked the door open “C-sec! Come out Morinth!” they were met with silence, the lights were on and it clearly looked lived in, so where was she?
“My, my, guess it was about time.” Morinth said in a sultry voice as she neared them, cascaded in a blue light, it was no surprise she was a biotic, every asari she met was, the question was just how powerful of a biotic is she.
Buttercup shook her head “Don’t try it lady.”
“Or what? You’ll shoot me?” she taunted.
“If we have to.” Buttercup replied.
Morinth smirked and turned to Kaidan, her eyes going pitch black as she looked at him, his gun clattering to the ground in an instant and he took a step towards her, Garrus catching his wrist “What are you doing Kaidan?”
“I...I have to…” he didn’t sound like himself, monotone, like he was a mindless drone.
“What did you do to him?!” Garrus yelled.
“Me? I haven’t done a thing.” She said, feigning innocence.
“Garrus she’s….she’s in my head.” his voice was strained as he spoke and he knew Kaidan was doing his best to fight back, to not let her overtake him. Garrus pulled Kaidan against him, holding him with one arm as he pointed his gun at Morinth.
“Let him go now! Don’t make me shoot you.” Garrus growled, Kaidan was his partner, he wasn’t going to allow anyone to harm him.
“You have to take me in alive right? I mean, you need a confession right?” She laughed and that set him off, Nef the innocent girl she killed along with who knew how many others, they meant nothing to her, just more numbers on her kill count. That poor girl really seemed to love Morinth but she was manipulated, she was the worst kind of killer and now she was trying to take Kaidan, the one person he cared about more than anything. Over his dead body. Garrus fired once, twice and she fell to the ground, blue blood pooling beneath her, releasing Kaidan in the process.
Garrus’s gun joined Kaidan’s on the floor as he fell to his knees with him, shrugging off his jacket and wrapping it around his human partner “Kaidan, can you hear me?” he tried not to sound as frantic and anxious as he felt right now.
“Garrus get him out of here.” Buttercup ordered as she moved in on Morinth, not holstering her gun on the off chance she was alive, doubtful though, Garrus was an excellent shot, he had the best scores in the division, never hurt to be too careful, they didn’t have much of a threat assessment other than ‘don’t sleep with her.’
Garrus scooped Kaidan up in his arms, he was no doctor but there wasn’t any blood he could see and he was breathing normally, hopefully he was just taking a nap but he was still going to get him checked out just to be on the safe side.
-------------
Kaidan groaned as he lay face down on one of the cots at the station “Damned asari…” he looked at Garrus. “I heard you killed her?” the turian nodded “Good.” he said, burying his face in the old, hardly stuffed pillow.
Garrus chuckled “And I thought your role was good cop.” he teased, gently nudging him.
“Ha ha, I'll go back to being good cop after my head stops pounding.” his reply muffled by the pillow.
Garrus snorted “Suppose I can’t blame you,” he stood up and that caught Kaidan’s attention. “I’ll let you get some rest.”
“You’re leaving?”
“Just to fill out a report but...I suppose I could stay if you need me to.” he said, awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck.
Kaidan blushed, he knew he should let him go, but that report could wait a little while longer couldn’t it? “I wouldn’t mind the company.” he said, giving him the best smile he could manage.
As strained as it was it made Garrus’s heart skip a beat, he still didn’t know much about human beauty standards but Buttercup had mentioned Kaidan was considered attractive by them, attractive didn’t seem to cut it though, Kaidan was simply beautiful, that was it, even by turian standards if he really thought about it. Nice fringe, supportive waist and….spirits, he was in trouble.

Carmen paced around the terminal, anxious to be in such a crowded place. Not to mention, Shadowsan had left her a minute ago and she probably wouldn't be able to use comms for a little while longer.
"I brought you some coffee," Carmen jumped at the noise as Shadowsan reappeared before her, holding a cup to her. "You seem stressed."
"Thanks," she smiled as she took the cup from him, looking around once more. "I am anxious. It's just... we've never actually met before. And what if the flight went wrong? What if something happened? What if VILE-"
"Carmen, Player will be fine." Shadowsan cut her off, reassuring her as she started pacing again. He looked at the screen displaying arriving flights, seeing that Player should be there in another minute.
Carmen looked at her phone as it buzzed, finding a message from Player.
"He's here," She looked around in the crowd, trying to find her best friend. "Do you seem him at all?" Shadowsan craned his next in search for the boy, spotting a white hat in the midst of the other passengers.
"Does he wear a white hat?" Carmen nodded and tried finding the hat, once more taking out her phone to send him a message.
Red: We're near a Starbucks shop. Shadowsan says he saw you so move in this direction if you can
White Hat: omw
Sighing, Carmen blew on her coffee before taking another sip. It was still somewhat early in the morning -9 a.m. to be exact- and it didn't help that she had been up all night, worrying about anything that could go wrong. She was brought out of her thoughts as Shadowsan nudged her, pointing to a familiar face.
Player was looking around, shifting his backpack to the other shoulder when he spotted someone with a red jacket and denim shorts. His face lit up as he saw the infamous thief and her former mentor. Carmen quickly handed her coffee back to Shadowsan right as Player ran at her in a hug.
"Woah- hey! How are you Player?" She chuckled, hugging back.
"Hi, Red! Hey Shadowsan! I- wow you two are tall." He said, looking up at the two. Shadowsan nodded as a greeting, letting the two talk.
"And you're short," Carmen smirked as he pulled away from the hug, once more taking her coffee from Shadowsan. "How was the flight?"
"It was good, I guess. Ooh what's that?" He pointed toward her drink.
"Coffee-"
I"There's coffee here? Where can I get some?" He looked around excitedly, trying to read the Starbucks menu behind them.
"You shouldn't be drinking coffee at your age," Shadowsan spoke up, causing the boy to pout. "And while you're here, I think it will be a good idea to have you get a good sleeping schedule."
"Aw, what? Carmen, you'll let me stay up, right?" Player switched his gaze to her, hopeful.
"We'll see. Now let's get your luggage and show you the base."
- - -
"It's even bigger in person," Player muttered as he got out of the car. Shadowsan retrieved his luggage from the trunk while Carmen stared up at the old warehouse. "So when do we get to go in?"
"Right now. But before we do," she turned to Player, her signature smirk plastered on her face. "I want to go in first to make sure the twins are in the living room. We kind kept this a secret from them, you see."
"Ah. Typical thief."
"Everything's out of the car. I'm going to go park it in the garage while you get the pranksters." Shadowsan made his way back to the car and drove it around the building to the other side.
Carmen opened the door to the base, moving to the living room. She found Ivy upside down on the couch with her DS.
"Where's Zack?"
"Ah... he's in the bathroom. He should be out in a sec," She replied, not looking up from her game. "So where were you?"
"Shopping," the thief replied casually. "What have you done while I was out?"
"Had to stop Zack from eating expired eggs. Partly why he's in there-"
"They didn't look expired!" Zack complained as he walked out of the bathroom. "Hey, Carm. What's up?"
"Well..." she gestured for Zack to take a seat. Ivy looked up from her game, righting herself on the couch.
"Is something wrong?" They asked in unison, concerned looks on their faces.
"No, no, no. Nothing's wrong," Carmen clasped her hands together. "In fact," she paused for dramatic effect. "I have a surpise for you two."
"A surprise?" Ivy questioned the thief, scrunching her nose.
"Ooh! Is it a race car?" Zack asked, standing up.
"It's not a race car, no. Here, just stay where you are." Carmen left the two on the couch, going outside to find Shadowsan and Player talking.
"Are they ready?" Shadowsan directed his attention to La Femme Rouge, picking up Player's bags.
"Yep. You ready to finally meet the rest of Team Red in person, Player?
"Yeah!"
"Follow me," Carmen lead the way toward the door, going in first. "Zack? Ivy? Ready for the surprise?" The two nodded, exchanging a look. Carmen opened the door all the way, letting Shadowsan and Player in. "Say hello to-"
"Player!" They yelled, getting up to greet the hacker.
"Hi! Zack, Ivy, I-" before he could finish his sentence, Player was wrapped up in a hug between the two Bostonians. Shadowsan dropped the bags in the doorway, closing the door behind himself.
"Don't suffocate him." Shadowsan had a small smile on his face, amused at the twins' reaction.
"I can't believe he's actually here," Ivy pulled away, looking at him. "And he's short, too."
"Best surprise ever!" Zack looked down at him. "Oh, wow. You were right, sis. He is short!" Zack put his finger on his chin for a moment, his face lighting up after a moment. "He's fun-sized!"
"I am not short!" Player stomped his foot, earning various sounds of awe from the rest of the team. "I just haven't hit my growth spurt yet..."
"Sure, Player. Maybe one day you'll be taller than me," Zack bent down a little, putting his arm around Player's shoulders. "Oh! Maybe you'll be taller than Shadowsan one day!"
"Pfft, I doubt that," Carmen smirked. "Do you two want to show him to his room?"
"Sure. And can play some video games after." Ivy grabbed one of Player's bags, Zack the other as they led him to his quarters.
"Ivy's right, Player. Y'know... I bet I can beat you at Super Mario Bros!" Zack usherrd him along.
"Fat chance," Player chuckled. "I'm a pro at Nintendo games."
"It would be easy enough to beat Zack," Ivy called from the front. "He can't even get past the first level on World 1 without dying in the first minute."
"Not true!" As the twins bickered about games Shadowsan crossed his arms and glanced at Carmen.
"Something tells me there's going to be more excitement in the house than there normally is. And noise." He scoffed.
"Never a dull moment on Team Red." Carmen replied.
- - -
By the end of the night, the team had watched two movies and ate all the popcorn in the base, leaving Shadowsan passed out earlier in an armchair. Zack had fallen asleep after hiding under a blanket from a jumpscare in the movie, having Ivy tuck him in a little.
Carmen moved her focus away from the movie, checking on Player.
"Did you like your first day here?" The boy switched from his upside down positon on the couch to meet her gaze, smiling.
"Yeah. It was fun," he whispered. "Have Zack and Ivy always been this... lively?" Player giggled.
"Always have been." Carmen grinned.
"Ah. I think I'm gonna like it here."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah."

The Dentist (pt13)
Arrgh, another 1500 words and still no answers. Slippery eels, I tell you. Next part, definitely the next part ::glares at the characters::
Well, we’ve just passed the 10,000 word mark. So much for the tiny fic ::headdesk:: I’m fighting to finish this, I promise! Thank you for all your wonderful support ::hugs you all madly::
From here.
-o-o-o-
Virgil was edgy for the rest of the day, watching his brothers at first wander to and fro from the infirmary, then, once he had escaped that horrible room, watch them moon about the house. They eyed him as if he was explosive or fragile or worse.
The tableau was broken midafternoon when Eos called Scott out to rescue a crane driver from a collapsing highrise. The annoying thing was that it was more a job for Virgil and Two than Scott and One, but his brother took it anyway, the blue glare pinning Virgil to the sofa cushions.
After that there was one less brother mooning about the house avoiding Virgil.
At one point he approached John who, oddly, had yet to announce his return to Five, and attempted to get some answers out of him.
A hand landed on his shoulder and Virgil’s eyes widened at the sad expression on his younger brother’s face. “You’ll need to wait for Scott on this one, Virgil.”
“What is going on? You all look as if someone has died.” His eyes widened at John’s subtle flinch. “What aren’t you telling me?!”
John’s other hand landed on Virgil’s other shoulder and his space brother looked down at him, his expression ever so honest and sincere. “No one has died, Virgil. We just found out that someone we know and love has been hurt.”
“Who?!” Faces raced through his mind.
“Virgil, please wait for Scott.”
“Why?”
“Just...trust us.”
Virgil bit back the expletive as John squeezed his shoulders. What the hell was going on?
“John...”
“Wait for Scott.”
Wait for Scott. He grit his teeth to hold back his response.
He hid in his room for an hour, then fell asleep.
He awoke to find Alan perched on the end of his bed playing a computer game. “Alan.”
“Hey, Virgil. Hold a sec, I just gotta...” The game console let off a series of squawks and Alan swore. “So close!”
Virgil stared at him a moment, but when Alan’s attention didn’t return to him, he pushed off the covers and climbed out of bed. A trip to the bathroom and he encountered himself in the mirror.
The swelling was finally going down. He could see straight. His right eye was still bloodshot and the skin around it a rainbow of colours, but he could see. His mouth still hurt like crazy, but there had been no brothers sporting medication to alleviate the irritation which was odd in itself.
What were they waiting for?
He frowned and regretted it as it set off a throb in his eye that threatened to progress into a headache.
“Virgil, you okay in there?”
So Alan was hovering. No doubt still feeling guilty and worried about him. “Alan, I’m fine.” And honestly he was. Achy, yes, but his head was finally clear from the medication fog, his balance was fine, he could even speak okay.
He washed his face gently and patted it dry before returning to his room.
Alan’s eyes were on him the moment he walked in.
“I’m fine, Alan, I promise.”
Alan guiltily returned to his console. “Sorry, just making sure.”
A sigh and Virgil sat down beside him. “What is it? Is it this thing you guys refuse to talk to me about?”
Alan dropped his arms into his lap, fingering his game console. “It sucks.”
Perhaps it did, if Virgil knew what they were talking about. “Wanna talk about it?”
“Can’t. Not until you’re better.”
“I am better.”
“I-“ Alan cut himself off and shook his head. “I’m sorry, Virgil, I...” Blue eyes caught his and widened, staring. Tears welled suddenly and anger flashed. Alan bit his lip hard and spat out a string of profanity of the likes he had never heard from his little brother.
“Alan!”
“He is so lucky he’s dead.” A blink and Alan appeared to realise what he had said. “I...I’m sorry, Virg, I’m...aw, hell.” And his little brother was up and out the door before Virgil could grab him.
What?!
Virgil pushed himself off the bed and out the door, but Alan was gone.
What the hell was going on?!
As if to answer his question, the distant roar of rocket engines became immediate and the building echoed through its soundproofing as Thunderbird One lowered herself into her bay below the pool. Virgil couldn’t see her, but he knew the process like his own breathing. He made his way through the house and down to the comms room, knowing that would be where his brother would gravitate.
He found Gordon sitting at their father’s desk in his hoverchair. His father’s chair had been spun off to one side. Whatever he was doing, he was very focussed. Virgil was able to make his way around the lounge and step up to the desk. Gordon was staring at a document floating above the desktop and poking it with a stylus.
“Hey, Gordon.”
His brother physically jumped and the stylus went flying. The document disappeared as Gordon hurriedly swiped it away. “Oh, hey, Virg. You’re awake.”
If that wasn’t a guilty look then Virgil knew nothing about his brother. “Yes, Gordon, I’m awake. And before you ask, yes, I’m feeling better, thank you.” He eyed the aquanaut as he struggled to compose himself. “A better question might be, are you okay?”
Gordon looked away and Virgil found himself reaching out, his hand landing on his brother’s shoulders. “What is it?”
Bloodshot russet-brown eyes looked up at him. “Have you ever questioned Dad’s belief that everyone is worth saving?”
Okay, random. “Uh, no, why?”
Gordon looked down at the desk again. “Because he is wrong. There are people on this planet who do things that cancel out that right.”
Virgil swallowed. “It is not our place to judge who is worth saving, Gordon.”
“I know. It’s just...” He looked up again. “Some people are just assholes who don’t deserve the privilege of life.”
Virgil grabbed their father’s chair and sat down beside his brother. There were many things he could say. He could argue, make a point, but the despair in Gordon’s eyes was just painful. “Will you tell me what is going on?”
Gordon’s eyes widened before looking down at his lap. “We need to wait for Scott.”
Wait for Scott. “Why?” It came out frustrated.
“Because you’ll need him.”
The words sucked all the heat out of the room and his bones chilled. “Why?”
“Gordon!” Scott entered the room, still dressed in his uniform, the sleeve torn and bloodied.
Virgil shot to his feet and hurried over. “Scott, what the hell. Why didn’t you report an injury?”
Scott rolled his eyes. “It’s nothing-“
“Gordon, grab a first aid kit, and then find John. Why didn’t John pick up on this?”
Scott slapped his fingers away. “Because it is nothing, that’s why. Uniform got caught on a piece of metal as I fell and it tore. Scratched me up a little. The better question would be how are you?”
“You fell?! How far? Do you have any other injuries?” He stepped back a little and tracked his eyes over his brother. Nothing appeared out of order bar a few scuffs on his scuff pads.
“Virgil, for crying out loud. I fell, yes, but I caught myself with my grapple gun, I am fine.”
“I’ll be the judge of that. Now sit down and let me have a look.”
“Virgil-“
“I said sit down.” Calm, direct and as commanding as any Tracy brother.
The first aid kit appeared at Virgil’s elbow. He dug out the laser scalpel and began removing Scott’s sleeve as Gordon called over comms to summon John.
His brother sighed and surrendered.
Once the sleeve had been removed, it appeared that yes, he was overreacting just a little, but he didn’t care. Virgil preferred it that way. With a glare at his brother who by this time was smirking at him, he swabbed the wound clean and tapped it up with a couple of butterfly bandages. A protective dressing and he was satisfied that Scott wasn’t about to bleed to death on him.
“Happy now?” The pilot actually had the nerve to smirk at him.
“As happy as I can be when a brother has a hole in him, I guess.” He squeezed a uniform clad forearm absently as he began to tidy up the mess he had made.
“Virg, do you forgive me?” It was whispered, barely breath, but Virgil heard it. He looked up into pleading blue eyes.
A swallow. “Of course.” But he looked away, still processing the implications.
“Can you at least understand why I did it?”
A slow nod as he closed the lid of the first aid kit.
Scott grabbed his upper arm and squeezed. “Virgil-“
“I trust you, Scott.” But he wasn’t willing to talk about it just yet. “Get yourself cleaned up and meet me back here.” He caught those blue eyes again. “We have to talk.”

Can’t Outrun Love by coldflasher
“Maybe you should introduce yourself,” said Nora as they circled one another.
“You first,” the other speedster said.
“They call me XS,” said Nora, and went for a super-speed roundhouse kick.
Her form was perfect, and the speed-force sang in her system as she swung – but the stranger caught her ankle before the kick could connect, holding Nora’s outstretched leg in place. Shocked by her audacity, Nora stared and tried to pull her leg free, but the other woman had a surprisingly strong grip.
“Nice to meet you, XS,” the woman said. “I’m Jesse Quick.”
An unfamiliar speedster shows up at S.T.A.R Labs, and Nora’s keen to prove she can take her down. When it comes to Jesse Quick, she might’ve got more than she bargained for.
Nora was playing on a Gameboy in the staff lounge when the alarm went off.
Her mom had brought it to her earlier in the afternoon. It was a slow day with no bad guys or rogue metas on the loose, and Nora was bored, doing endless laps of the speed-lab just to kill time. Her dad was at the CCPD catching up on paperwork; after one too many attempts to explain how archaic the precinct’s systems were compared to how they were in the future, which had culminated in her trying to give her dad’s computer an upgrade and almost blowing it up, Nora had been banned from ‘helping’ for the foreseeable future. So not shway.
“Whoa, easy tiger,” Iris had called as she entered the lab. “You wanna slow down for a sec?”
“I’m bored,” Nora whined as she skidded to a stop in front of her, making her mom’s hair fly crazily like she was caught in a gale. “What on earth is it you do around here when there’s no bad guys to fight?”
“It’s called working,” Iris said mildly. “It’s how we keep a roof over your head.” But she didn’t look mad. “Come on,” she said. “I have something to show you.”
An offer like this usually meant good things, so Nora eagerly bounced over to the desk and perched on it, swinging her legs. She knew it was kind of lame to get so excited over looking at old photo albums and flicking through her parents’ yearbook, but there was so much stuff in those things that hadn’t made it to the Flash museum. After years of family history being walled off, a little thing like a photo of her dad hanging out in the cortex in the Flash suit still hadn’t lost its novelty.
What Iris produced, though, wasn’t a photo or a piece of high school memorabilia. It was a weird plastic square. Nora took it and turned it back and forth, before discovering that it opened up to reveal a tiny screen.
“It’s called a Gameboy,” Iris told her. “One of the OG handheld games consoles. It belonged to your dad. We used to fight to the death over this when we were kids.”
“Shway,” Nora breathed, pressing buttons until the screen lit up, bathing her face in light. “It’s so old. It’s like something from the stone age.”
“Ouch,” said Iris, but she was grinning.
“Sorry,” said Nora. “But you have to admit the graphics are terrible.” She looked down at the shapeless blob of pixels that was supposed to be her avatar and shook her head in amazement.
“Oh, for sure. Even in 2019 it’s a little dated. Still fun, though. It might give you something to do around here; you don’t want to tire yourself out by running around all day. If there’s an emergency, you might need your speed.” Iris nudged her. “And between you and me, if you can beat your dad’s high score then you have to promise me you’ll rub it in his face. I never managed to beat him and he’s never let me forget it.”
“Challenge accepted,” said Nora, already mashing buttons.
She was lying on her back on one of the sofas in the lounge, trying to manoeuvre the little Mario-blob across a maze of green pipes, when the familiar sound of alarms made her jump out of her skin. Immediately forgetting the console, she sat bolt upright and put her finger to her ear to activate the comms unit. Wearing it 24/7 was overkill, she knew that – but it made her feel close to the rest of the team, hearing their voices in her ear whenever she needed them.
“Guys, what’s happening?”
“We’ve got some unexpected activity in the breach room,” said Cisco. “But –”
“I’m on it,” said Nora, sprinting downstairs.
She flew through the corridors, stopping for just long enough to grab her suit and throw it on – no bad guys were catching her unmasked – before skidding into the room where the breach pulsed and flickered in the centre, its blue going brighter.
“Okay guys, what am I looking at?”
There was a crackle in the comms, but nothing clear. Frowning, Nora tapped her earpiece, but there was only static.
“Guys?”
The breach yawned like the maw of a gigantic beast. Nora threw her arm up to protect her face, and then a figure leapt out of the maelstrom and landed lightly in the centre of the room. It was a young woman around her age, wearing a red and yellow suit with a mask over her eyes. Her hair was pulled back in a ponytail.
Nora didn’t waste a second. When it came to masked intruders, her policy was ‘punch first, ask questions later’ – and with that in mind, she launched herself at the stranger, lightning crackling all over her body as she drew her arm back in preparation to punch.
When she tapped into the speed force, Nora was used to everything around her moving as slow as glass, their motions almost imperceptible. She wasn’t expecting the woman to turn her head and look at her at a perfectly normal speed, like Nora was an interesting specimen under a microscope.
The stranger’s hand came up, catching Nora’s fist in hers and stopping it mid-swing.
Frozen with shock, Nora stared at her. Her lightning flared, and an answering yellow blaze illuminated the other speedster, crackling in her eyes.
“Who are you?” Nora demanded.
“I could ask you the same question,” the speedster said, and swung a punch with her free hand.
Nora intercepted it in time, but only just. They broke apart and she backed off to a safe distance, wary all of a sudden. She’d never fought another speedster before, though she’d known it was a possibility – there were so many of them. Casting her mind back, she tried to remember what her dad had told her about battling someone whose abilities matched hers. Without her natural advantage, it would be like fighting with a hand tied behind her back, and although she’d taken her turn with a punch-bag and taken some self-defence classes gifted to her by Papa Joe on one long-ago birthday, she wasn’t awesome at fighting. Her speed was what gave her an edge.
“I’m surprised to see another speedster around here,” the stranger said, circling Nora with a toss of her head that made her pony-tail fly. “Guess I shouldn’t be. It seems like there’s a new one every year.”
“Bad news for you,” Nora said. “That means we know how to beat them.”
A grin broke out on the other speedster’s face. “Well, you’re welcome to try.”
That smile did distracting things to her, and she didn’t like it. Now would be a really awesome time to turn off the switch. Knowing her family history of flirting with villains – her mom still liked to tease her dad about his crush on Captain Cold, which he denied with a blush – she supposed it made sense that she’d be attracted to overconfidence and evilness in equal measure, but right now she needed to focus.
She flew at the other speedster and tried to jab her in the ribs. The other woman dodged and aimed a punch to the face that Nora ducked. Crap, she’s fast. As soon as the thought had occurred to her, Nora rolled her eyes at herself. Duh.
They exchanged a flurry of blows, most of which didn’t land. They were pretty evenly matched, which did good things for her ego. Her plan was to wrap the woman’s pretty brown hair around her fist and yank, knowing that her own shorter hair protected her from a similar attack – that was half of why she’d cut it off – but she couldn’t get close enough to get a good grip.
They both backed off, sizing each other up again. Nora found that despite her instincts, she was enjoying herself more than she’d like to admit – and judging by the way the look on the other woman’s face, she wasn’t the only one.
“Maybe you should introduce yourself,” said Nora as they circled one another.
“You first.”
“I’m Jesse Quick.” And she yanked Nora off her feet.
Nora went down hard with a yelp of shock, landing on her ass. For a moment she lay there staring at the ceiling with the breath knocked out of her, trying to figure out what the hell had just happened. Then a face appeared overhead. Jesse Quick was standing over her with a self-satisfied expression.
Nora was going to wipe that smug look off her face. Lightning crackling, she prepared to launch herself at Jesse –
“Nora, stop!”
Barry leapt between them, arms outspread as if to hold them back from one another. Nora’s heart crashed into her ribcage. He wasn’t wearing the Flash suit.
“Dad, your mask –”
“I’m sorry, did you just say Dad?” Jesse demanded.
“Stand down,” Barry told Nora. “We know her, okay?”
“We do?” said Nora.
Slowly, she picked herself up off the floor. She was sore from the beatdown in more ways than one. With her dad still standing between them, she took a second to get a proper look at Jesse Quick in her red and yellow suit – form-fitted, as all their suits were, for better aerodynamics. Compact, but softer than all the male speedsters Nora had encountered, a body more like her own. Still lithe from all the running, but with curved edges.
Removing her mask, Jesse looked at her with bright, interested eyes. Nora’s stomach gave a lurch. Uh-oh, said a voice in the back of her head. Jesse was cute.
“You’ve got some explaining to do,” Jesse said, eyes fixed on Barry.
“Yep,” he said, lowering his hands. “It looks like I do.”
The explaining took time. Understandably. It wasn’t exactly a normal situation. She hadn’t really considered what a weird story it was until she’d listened to her dad trying to explain it, with Iris cutting in at regular intervals whenever he left out anything important – but given that she already knew all the details, she wasn’t really listening. There was something a lot more interesting that had caught her attention.
Nora found her gaze kept wandering back to Jesse. The curve of her spine as she leaned against the desk, the way the light caught her hair as she tucked it behind her ear, the sparkle in her eye. It was the first time she’d gotten close to another speedster who wasn’t family, and she was trying to commit all of her to memory, like a fascinating science project or a new Flash story she hadn’t heard.
Jesse looked up and caught her staring. Feeling her cheeks warm, Nora gave her a sheepish smile before looking down at her feet. Jesse’s look lingered, and when Nora looked up again the other woman was still watching her. Seeing she had Nora’s attention, Jesse looked up and down Nora’s body in a clear once-over before her lips curved and she looked away again, returning her attention to whatever Barry was talking about. Nora turned her head and hid her smile in the collar of her jacket.
She’d thought she was being subtle, but apparently not so much. Iris caught her eye and raised her eyebrows encouragingly. Nora shook her head and looked away, but Iris coughed and flicked her eyes at Jesse again. Her meaning was clear: talk to her!
Nora rolled her eyes. Mom!
Iris gave her another look.
If she didn’t do something soon, there was a real danger that her mom might try and do it for her. The only thing more embarrassing than her ridiculous crush was the idea of her parents trying to matchmake on her behalf, so Nora cleared her throat and took things into her own hands.
“So, Jesse… do you guys have Big Belly Burger on your Earth?” she asked casually.
“We sure do. It’s one of my main food groups.”
“Me too! Do you want to head down there and grab lunch? I’m really craving their fries.”
“Sounds awesome,” Jesse said.
“Great idea, I’m starving,” said Barry.
“Uh,” said Nora.
“Babe,” Iris said.
“What?”
“I think Nora and Jesse need a little girl time.”
“Girl time?”
She gave him a meaningful look that slid off him like water off a duck’s back. For a few seconds they stood having one of their wordless conversations, Iris raising her eyebrows progressively higher while Barry continued to look bewildered. Eventually, Iris nodded at Nora and then at Jesse and gave Barry her most meaningful look yet, and finally things clicked.
“Oh,” he said. “Right. Girl time. Got it. I mean, we wouldn’t wanna cramp your style or whatever…”
He gave actual finger guns, and for the first time in her life, Nora experienced what it was like to be embarrassed by her father. She resisted the urge to hide her face.
“Did you just say ‘cramp our style?’” Jesse said incredulously.
“He’s trying to do the Dad thing,” Iris said, patting him on the shoulder. “I’ll get him out of your hair.”
Ignoring Barry’s protests, she steered him out of the cortex, giving Nora a wink on the way out.
“Well that was super weird,” Jesse said.
“Yeah,” Nora said, putting her hands in her pockets. “I should probably mention that I’m sorry for trying to kick your ass and all. I kind of thought you were evil, so…”
Jesse shrugged. “That’s okay. Better to be cautious, right? And for what it’s worth, I’m sorry for actually kicking your ass.”
“You caught me off-guard,” Nora acknowledged. “But I could totally take you.”
“That’s fighting talk.”
“You bet it is.” She paused and ruefully massaged her shoulder. “But we might have to take a rain check on the rematch. I’m still a little sore from the first round.”
“Aww,” Jesse said playfully. “You want me to kiss it better?”
Fireworks went off in Nora’s head. YES! Her gay brain yelled – but common sense quickly reined it in. There was a pretty good chance Barry and Iris might still be lurking around the corner listening in and the last thing she needed was for her parents to catch her making out with a sexy speedster lady in the middle of the cortex.
“Maybe later,” she said.
“I’ll hold you to it.” Jesse rolled her neck. “Come on; it’s Big Belly Burger time. I’ll race you.
Without warning, she rocketed down the corridor like a bullet from a starting pistol, leaving the air tingling with static and the afterimage of lightning flickering in her wake.
“Hey!” yelled Nora as she flew after her.
It wasn’t like she wasn’t used to running with other speedsters by now, but she’d known for a while now that her dad was going easy on her. It made sense that he’d be faster; he’d been running longer, training harder, had years of experience she didn’t – but they both pretended she was almost a match. Jesse Quick, however, had no qualms about showing her just how outclassed she was. It was refreshing to run with someone who wasn’t scared to show they were out of her league.
Jesse turned to glance over her shoulder and stuck out her tongue. Laughing, she piled on the speed and left Nora in the dust.
Grinning, Nora pushed herself harder. There was no way she was catching up, but she was damned if she wasn’t going to try.
Big Belly Burger was a good call. It was cheerful enough that she could pretend they weren’t on a kind-of-date, loud and bustling and full of chatter so that her heart stopped buzzing speedster-style and her stomach actually stopped doing backflips for long enough to let her eat. Jesse ate her fries one at a time, waving each one around as she talked like she was conducting a miniature orchestra and dipping it in her milkshake before she ate it. Nora, who had been ridiculed her whole life for thinking fries and vanilla shake was a good combination, was kind of obsessed with her. There was this energy she gave off, a kind of effortless confidence that Nora felt like she’d spent her whole life chasing. After discovering her speed she’d unlocked a side of herself she’d never known was there, but she felt as though it had come with an extra helping of uncertainty. All of a sudden she had become unknowable, with a new set of abilities she barely knew what to do with and, until recently, a mentor who could only teach her by proxy from within the walls of a cell. She felt like a teenager again, trying to figure out everything all at once – her speed, her weird new family dynamic, her relationship with the father she’d never known who was only a few years older than she was. Jesse looked like she had it all figured out, and Nora found herself once again with the quandary all queer girls faced: did she want to be Jesse, or be with Jesse?
Both, her brain supplied helpfully. Both is good.
“So you were born a speedster? Not made?” Jesse shook her head. “That’s so crazy. I can’t imagine growing up like this. You must have been a real handful.” She dipped a fry in her milkshake. “You must have had all these years to develop your speed. Look at what your dad’s like and he’s only been like this for what, five years? I can’t even imagine what kind of crazy shit you can do.”
“I wasn’t born with speed, actually,” Nora said shyly. “I mean I was, kind of – but I couldn’t access it. I didn’t know I was a speedster until recently. I’m still getting used to my powers.”
“That makes sense. It’s a pretty big adjustment.”
“That’s an understatement. …You’ve been doing this for a while, right?”
“Couple of years.” Jesse stirred her milkshake a couple of times before popping the lid off and drinking the last of it, her head tipped back.
“Do you ever get used to it?”
Jesse considered this for a moment. “Kind of. I mean you get used to being fast; your speed becomes a part of you, so it’s hard not to – I think you just get used to things being weird. When I think about it too hard, nothing in my life makes sense. I mean, look at me. I’m sat eating Big Belly Burger in a parallel universe. We don’t even have this milkshake flavour on my Earth – which is an absolute tragedy, because it’s amazing.” She shook her head at the polystyrene cup. “I spent months living in a different universe. After a while it became my new normal – but I still missed home.”
“Yeah,” Nora said. “I get that. I’m from the future and everything here is so different. I love being with my parents – meeting my dad, finally having a good relationship with my mom… when I’m from, we don’t get on so well.” She sighed. “But I do miss home sometimes. I think the worst part is that I can’t talk about it. If I ever try to talk about the place I’m from, everyone around me covers their ears in case it screws up the timeline or whatever.”
“You can talk to me,” Jesse offered. When Nora looked dubious, she said, “Not my Earth, not my future, remember? I won’t tell the fam. No spoilers.”
Nora’s instinct was to decline. But she wanted to talk about it, she realised – the life she’d met behind. The mom who was a stranger compared to the one she had now; the technology she’d taken for granted until she lost it; the museum she’d walked through as a kid and later learned was filled with family history; her college experience and her childhood friends and Lia, who she still missed in a part of her heart that had crystallized, turned sharp and jagged as a geode because she wasn’t allowed to talk about her any more.
“Yeah,” she said. “I’d like that.”
The Big Belly Burger employees had to kick them out at closing time.
As two speedsters, they could both put away crazy amounts of food, so it wasn’t like they hadn’t eaten enough to justify the length of their stay – but Nora was still shocked when she realised the restaurant was empty and the staff were starting to mop the floors. The hours had melted away while she and Jesse sat talking, and night had fallen outside.
Jesse had a lot of stories about Barry and as usual Nora drank them in like she’d finally found an oasis in the middle of a dessert, even the ones she’d already heard – the fresh perspective made them new again, like brushing the dust off old heirlooms and finding the shine underneath. But they’d also talked about where they were from, their lives before the speed, setting the universe to rights. A few hours in, Nora had been hit with a realisation: Jesse got it. She hadn’t realised how desperate she was for someone to understand until she’d found someone who did.
“That was fun,” Jesse said as they reached Joe’s front door. Nora was staying with Papa Joe and Mama Cecile to save her back from the sofas in the staff lounge – they were great for napping on, but not so much for long-term sleeping arrangements.
“Yeah, it was,” Nora agreed.
They stood lingering on the doorstep, the knowledge of what was about to happen making the air tingle between them.
“So,” Jesse said, stepping closer and lowering her voice. She laced her fingers with Nora’s and her thumb danced lightly over Nora’s knuckles, the touch setting her skin on fire all the way up her arm. “I think I owe you a kiss.”
“Maybe more than one,” Nora said breathlessly. “You kicked my ass pretty hard.”
“I can work with that,” said Jesse, and she leaned in.
There was a spark as their lips met, static flaring between them. Startled, they both leapt back. Jesse looked so surprised that Nora couldn’t help giggling – and to her relief, Jesse started laughing along with her. Her hand cupped the back of Nora’s neck as she leaned in and kissed her, and Nora reached up to slip her fingers into Jesse’s hair.
They swayed on the doorstep, the kiss never breaking. There was a bump as Nora’s back pressed into the front door, but she barely felt it. All she was aware of was the warmth of Jesse’s body aligned perfectly with hers, her thigh slotted between Nora’s legs. The kiss had started off gentle but before long it became more urgent, and when they finally broke apart with bright eyes, they were both breathless.
“You’re sure you don’t want to come inside?” Nora asked.
“Well,” said Jesse. “If you’re offering.”
Grinning, Nora took her hand and pulled her forwards, and they both phased through the front door and flitted up the stairs silent as ghosts.
The bedroom door closed behind them and they stood in the middle of Nora’s borrowed bedroom, kissing over and over. When Jesse pulled her shirt over her head and it hit the floor, Nora stood and stared for a solid thirty seconds. She was wearing a white bra covered in purple flowers, with a small diamante nestling between her breasts and lacy straps pressed against her shoulders. The colour of the flowers stood out against her creamy skin.
“Is everything okay?” Jesse asked, uncertain for the first time.
“This is probably kind of weird,” said Nora, “but first of all, I love your bra, and just so you’re aware, my underwear is nowhere near as cute as yours.”
“Well,” Jesse said. “Good thing I’ll be taking it off.” Then she pushed Nora back onto the bed.
A little squeak of surprise left Nora’s mouth as she hit the mattress, but Jesse was already on top of her, straddling her as she kissed her, the silk of her underwear soft against Nora’s fingers as she ran her hands down Jesse’s spine and then settled on her waist.
“Have you ever slept with a speedster before?” she asked.
Nora shook her head.
Jesse gave one of those grins Nora was coming to like so much. “Well then,” she said. “This is going to blow your mind.”
There was something soft, warm and heavy pressed against her.
Sleepily, Nora stirred. Her eyes slowly blinked open. The first thing she saw was light brown hair on the pillow beside her that absolutely wasn’t her own. Then she focused. Jesse was lying beside her, blue eyes fixed on hers.
“Morning, sleepy head.”
“Good morning,” Nora said, stretching slightly.
They were quiet for a while, each of them admiring the view. Jesse’s fingertips danced down Nora’s arm, and Nora smiled shyly, ducking her head as a blush touched her cheeks.
“You were right,” she said.
“I graduated high school at fifteen and majored in five separate subjects in college, so I usually am,” said Jesse. “Right about what?”
Nora grinned. “It did blow my mind.”
Laughing, Jesse pulled her in for another kiss, morning breath forgotten.
They were very busily making out when there was a brief knock and the bedroom door immediately opened, with Joe standing in the doorway.
“Hey, Nora, Cecile and I were wondering if you –”
He stopped dead. Everyone in the room had frozen. Painstakingly slowly, as if dealing with an animal who would attack if there were any sudden movements, Nora pulled the duvet higher.
“I can explain,” she said.
“You know what?” said Joe. “I’d actually prefer that you didn’t. I’m going to go back downstairs and whenever you two are ready you can come down and we’ll all pretend this never happened.” Pausing, he said, “Uh. Nice to see you again, Jesse.” Then he backed out.
There was a momentary pause. Nora buried her face in her hands.
“So that happened,” said Jesse.
“Oh my God,” said Nora. “What is it about my family?”
“They’re pretty involved. I’d forgotten what that feels like. It’s kind of nice, actually.”
“Well if you stick around for a while, I’m sure you’ll get a chance to experience it a little more.”
She’d been aiming for casual, but Jesse saw right through her. Her smile was knowing. Embarrassed, Nora refused to look her in the eye.
“I can’t stay for too long,” she said. “I have a team back home, and I can’t leave my city undefended. But I’m sure a couple of extra days wouldn’t hurt.”
Unable to hide her delight, Nora said, “I mean, if you want. If it’s not too much trouble.”
“I’m starting to think you and trouble go hand in hand,” Jesse said, leaning in to kiss her. “But luckily for you, I kind of like it.”

Previous Part: Here
Next Part: Here
Marcia leapt up into the air, void swirling around her, as she fired her blood bound bow at Praksis. While it did manage to tether down Praksis and some surrounding vandals, it didn’t seem to damage him. That’s when Marcia noticed the floating machines around the room. “Shield generators?” Marcia scoffed, “That’s just cheap!”
“I got it!” Tif yelled as they activated their own super and leapt up to the machines, smashing them with their stasis-coated fist. “Whoo! You da Titan!” Blaze cheered. “He’s still tethered. Go to town!” Marcia called out. “You heard her!” Rae tossed a solar grenade at Praksis before swiftly switching to her auto-rifle and began firing at him while Blaze managed to land some nicely aimed grenades from her launched. The minute the tether from Marcia’s bow wore off, Praksis teleported across the room and sent a flurry of stasis crystals towards Rae and Blaze, temporarily freezing them in place. “Ra ki sloat!” Tif growled as they fired at Praksis with their submachine gun. “Ding dong!” While Praksis was distracted by Tif, Marcia jumped down and kicked off Praksis’s head before turning back to him mid-air and firing shots from her Malfeasance, nicknamed ‘Aim to Misbehave’. Tif and Marcia’s efforts combined bought Blaze and Rae enough time to break out of their stasis prisons. “You good?” Blaze asked. “I will be once we take this guy down.” Rae replied as she whipped out Lumina and fired a few rounds at Praksis, being careful to dodge the incoming blasts of stasis.
“This is all the Machine gave you?” Praksis laughed.
“It didn’t give me this!”
Praksis let out a pained yelp as Tif lunged into his back with their stasis gauntlet before following it up with a few slashes from their shock blade. However, their slashes were cut off when the shield around him reappeared as he let out a dark chuckle. “Uh oh…” Tif laughed nervously. “Light dammit, there’s six now!” Blaze called out as she spotted six shield generators floating over them. “How many does this guy have?!” Marcia exclaimed as she began to take out the generators with her rocket launcher. “Too many!” Rae growled. Praksis went to grab at Tif, but they managed to lift off the ground in time to dodge it and landed on a platform opposite to Marcia’s. “Let me see your tiny servitors.” Praksis chuckled, “I will take it apart like the others.”
“Tif, what’s Eliksni for nerd?” Blaze called out.
“Uh…I think the closest would be ‘ta ba’.” Tif yelled from their platform as they dodged incoming projectiles from Praksis, “It means ‘knowledge loser’.”
“I’d like to see you try, ta ba!” As the last generator went down, Blaze erupted into a fireball and she charged at Praksis and attempted to grapple him. While she only managed to push him back a bit, Blaze maintained her grip on the Fallen scientist as her flames began to scorch his clothing. “Keep firing! I can’t hold him for long.” Blaze growled over the roaring flames.
Marcia went to fire her Trust at Praksis when she felt a familiar surge of icy energy course within her. A smirk crossed her face as she felt her joints freezing in place, “Blaze, back up!”
“W-wha-?! Ok?” Blaze leapt backwards quickly as she heard a shattering sound as a blue blur shot down towards him. Praksis yelled out in pain as a stasis-coated kama blade embedded itself in his shoulder. He yanked it out and glared up at where it came from. Marcia stood there tossing the second blade in her hand while staring down at him, a proud smirk on her face. “Now things are getting fun!” she chuckled before launching the second blade, summoning a stasis storm that seemed to slow Praksis’s movements. “Got you now!” Marcia darted down at the scientist, throwing withering blade after withering blade at him. The kama blades appeared in her hands again as she dashed straight towards Praksis. All the other Guardians could see was a blue blur hitting Praksis again and again, over and over, as Marcia struck him with the blades while leaping off the walls and pillars. Finally, she came to a halt behind him, panting heavily as she knelt on one knee as the blades disappeared. Praksis was still for a moment before crumpling to the floor, dead. Marcia let out a sharp exhale as the stasis energy left her before flopping onto her back. “Ok. I really love this power!” Marcia laughed as her breath returned to her. “Nicely done, Marci!” Blaze grinned as she helped her fellow Hunter to her feet. “Yay, Marcia!” Tif cheered. Rae sighed in relief before activating her comms, “Variks, Praksis is down. We’re finishing up here.”
“Good.” Variks replied, “Without Phylaks and Praksis, Eramis will grow reckless. Careless. Without her council, she is weak. She will struggle to control this new Dark power.”
“While we’re getting better at it.” Rae glanced back at Marcia who had been soaking in the praise, “It’s the perfect time to strike. We’ll meet you back at the base soon.”
As Rae ended the call, Marcia approached Rae, splinter in hand, “I got Praksis’s splinter. Time to go make this official.”
“You’re really loving Stasis, huh?”
“You kiddin’? It’s awesome!”
“What about Starlight? You’re not back to Darklight again, are you?”
“Oh, shoot! Good point! Gimme a sec.”
Marcia focused for a moment before the golden wings and horns of her Starlight form emerged with her scythe. “Nope. All good!” Marcia confirmed as she dismissed the form, “Seems like Paralian Light is immune to Stasis effects.”
“That’s reassuring.” Rae sighed, “Let’s go regroup with Drifter, Eris and the Stranger.”
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 “Do do-do, ice-cold power is the new hottest trend! Kama blades cause a storm that doesn’t end.” Marcia hummed to herself as she soared alongside Fireteam Paralight towards the Stranger’s camp, “Icy shuriken turn ya into ice blocks! I gotta say, this Dark power rock- uh…” Marcia suddenly came to a halt as she trailed off, “Hey, Rae. Aren’t those Vanguard bots?”
Rae’s face paled as she saw the frames positioned outside the camp, with Drifter, Eris and the Stranger nowhere to be seen. “Aw shanks…” she muttered, “I forgot to give the other’s a heads up. Zavala’s gonna kill me…”
“I’m, uh…I’m gonna wait out here.” Marcia grinned sheepishly, “Don’t wanna get blamed for this.”
“I-I’ll join you.” Tif added.
“Hey, I ain’t getting’ caught in the Zava-wrath!” Blaze exclaimed.
“Aren’t I lucky to have you guys at friends…” Rae sighed as she got off her sparrow and entered the tent. Inside, Zavala stood near the table at the middle, arms folded and his back to Rae.
‘This would be easier if Ikora and Cayde tagged along with him…’ Rae thought to herself before clearing her throat, “Uh…hi, Zavala.”
Zavala turned to face the young Warlock, “Raegalia…I don’t even know where to begin. It seems everyday I know less and less.”
“Oh, good. We’re in the same boat.” Rae half-joked, “Good to know I’m not the only one left in the dark here. Er, no pun intended.”
“Indeed.” Zavala replied, “But that’s not why I came here.”
“Oh thank the Traveller! I thought we were in trou-OW!”
“Shush, hothead! They’ll hear us!”
Rae sighed, “Hey, earwigs! Private conversation here!”
“Sorry, Rae!” Tif called from outside as the sound of dragging and footsteps were heard outside.
“Continue, Commander.” Rae sighed.
“We’ve been watching Eramis and have important intel for you.” Zavala continued, “You’ve clearly disrupted Eramis’s plans. Vanguard scouts report that she’s fled to the Cosmodrome. Perhaps to loot the remains of the old House of Devils hideouts.”
“That’s a name I haven’t heard in a while. She really must be desperate if she’s turning to looting from the Devils.” Rae muttered, “We’ll head back to Earth and investigate. See what she’s up to.”
“Good. Adam has returned from his duties in the Dreaming City. I’ll tell him to meet you there.”
“Much obliged, Commander.”
Rae turned to leave but was stopped by Zavala, “And Raegalia…I understand what you’re doing. Fighting fire with fire. But the Darkness is not our friend. The Darkness caused the Collapse. By all accounts, it seeks to cause another. Don’t let it lead you away from the Light. The City needs you. I need you. For now…do what you must for the good of humanity. But don’t lose sight of who you are.”
Rae nodded in understanding before leaving the tent. As she exited out into the snow, she waved over Tif, Blaze and Marcia, “Heads up! Eramis has headed to the Cosmodrome. Zavala thinks she’s looting the House of Devils. We’re gonna meet Adam down there.”
“Cosmodrome, eh? That takes me back…” Marcia muttered, “I guess wielding stasis permanently will have to wait. Lead the way, Vanguard.”
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 “Hyup!”
Four Guardians landed on a metal platform within the steppes of the Cosmodrome. “Wow.” Rae breathed, “Memories, eh Ghost?”
“Hard to believe it’s been six years. It’s flown by.” Ghost replied.
“Time flies when you have the best partner at your side.”
“Hey, I thought I was your best partner!”
Rae jumped upon hearing a robotic voice beneath them. Rae, Marcia, Blaze and Tif peered over the edge. There they saw Adam in new ice blue armour, a Hunter in red, blue and grey armour…and Cayde-6 glancing up towards Rae in a proud stance.
“Surprise!”
 To Be Continued…
