Love it
The Devil wears Danbury: a fashion story told in eight parts
Famously outspoken Agatha Danbury has a reputation as the best of the fashion industry, editor in chief for the best selling magazine 'The Ton' Her success is only matched by her revolving door of assistants. All who seem to mysteriously find love and quit before the year is over. But Danbury is nothing if not persistent. Every girl that passes her office must be the best if not then they are free to quit. Of course out of all her former assistants, Agatha Danbury had a special place in her cold heart for Violet's girls.
First there was Daphne, influencer turned aspiring designer who nobody believed in, yes, she took everything Danbury sent her way with a social media smile and boosted the Danbury brand with her PR magic, too bad dear Simon had to swoop in with his false dating scheme to boost his ratings and out was Daphne, inlove and quitting, off to design her first collection.
Then came Kate, a unorthodox recommendation from her sister, who happened to one of Danbury's smartest models, sure Kate was an out of options accountant on a mission to protect her sister Edwina from the dangerous modeling industry, but her help was invaluable when Anthony Bridgerton decided to be an overgrown manchild and put in a request for Danbury's retirement, saying that the formidable Agatha was too old for her job and needed to step down her throne. Well, Kate took care of that, sadly one too many months of sexually charged yelling later and out was Kate, off to marry Anthony and manage Bridgerton Industries. Danbury didn't regret swindling Anthony out of a couple of millions in her contract renewal just as much as he didn't regret stealing Kate out of her grasp.
Poaching Sophie out of Araminta's claws in a business deal was a bargain, Sophie was willing to sell her soul to the devil to get out of her stepmother's thumb and Danbury needed to put Araminta in her place, Sophie was charismatic and quite elegant, had Benedict Bridgerton not swept her off her feet, Sophie could have made a name for herself as a model. Sadly Benedict genius-Artist Bridgerton, made a nuisance of himself in Danbury's office untill "his Muse" said yes to a date and eventually Sophie accepted that she'd rather pose for her beloved painter than any famous photographer and then once again, Danbury was handed another resignation letter.
Then came Penelope, begging for the job after her best friend's brother got too close to discovering the real identity The Ton's salacious columnist, Reporter Whistledown and even then Danbury knew she'd lose Penelope soon. A suspicious Colin Bridgerton was always hard to shake off, so in an effort to help and out of pure mischief Danbury organized the Whistle Revelation contest hoping that millions of suspects would throw Colin of Penelope's scent and hopefully make him realize his blatantly obvious feelings for Penelope sooner. Of course when Colin found out the truth it cost Danbury her best gossip columnist and firing her was only logical now that Reporter Whistledown was exposed. It had nothing to do with 'The Ton' sister publication 'Traveling Coach' offering Penelope a spot as an editor, or it being Colin Bridgerton's site of employment. Danbury might like Penelope, but she wasn't that sentimental.
Francesca lasted exactly two weeks before Michael Stirling came storming into Danbury's office to take her back to Scotland. And to be honest, Danbury didn't even know why she hired Francesca, as the former CFO of Kilmartin games, Fran Bridgerton really had no business hiding out in 'The Ton' and using Danbury's reputation as a shield to escape whatever was happening between her and Stirling. Let alone take a job that was extremely under her paygrade and in a fashion magazine of all places. Agatha's temporary insanity aside, Francesca was the height of efficiency, Danbury almost fought Stirling for her. Yet once again, Agatha was forced to fire a perfectly competent (if overqualified) assistant because of a man inlove. But at least now Kilmartin games owed 'The Ton' a fashion app and a Xbox game.
Hiring Eloise as an assistant after her feminist articles got her fired from one too many newspapers was a favor to Violet. Sending her assistant to track down the reclusive celebrity landscaper and pressure him for an exclusive while Danbury treated herself to a needed vacation in Romney England felt like an easy solution. What trouble could Eloise Bridgerton ever find in the country?. Plenty apparently. One week after reaching their destination, Eloise had already gotten into a paintball war with Phillip's children, given the impression she'd been kidnapped by said man to her brothers and ended the weekend with her and Agatha covered in flour, plus a black eye. If Phillip Crane hadn't said he was some sort of pen pal of hers, Danbury would have called Violet, but as it was Eloise was much adored by the Cranes. Even if the family had a strange way of showing it, with paintball, nerf guns and flowers (too many flowers!). Either way Eloise was too energetic for the fashion industry. Her resignation was no surprise (Her wedding invitation was). And while Eloise credited Agatha for the inspiration behind her choice to start Women Voices Publishing. Danbury would rather just have a competent assistant
Lucy the only one with actual PA experience, was with Danbury the longest, almost a whole year of absolute bliss until some idiot decided hiring Gregory Bridgerton and Hermione (dimwit) Watson in the same multimillion dollar Ad campaign was a good idea. Danbury was ready to cut heads anytime Gregory botched a shoot because he couldn't stop staring at Hermione, who in turn used Lucy's connection to Danbury as a shield whenever she ruined the shoot. Not to mention that Danbury knew fully well that Gregory was using Watson as an excuse to escape his attraction to Lucy. Then of course Gregory had to pull a Bridgerton and get his head out of his arse only when Lucy was about to marry, So yes, Danbury called in a favor with Benedict and gave Lucy's fiancee a tiny push out of the closet. But she resented Gregory, she resented him so much. If he hasn't retired from modeling and gone off to work for Anthony. She would have ruined his career for making her lose Lucy.
And finally there was Hyacinth, Danbury's current assistant, Hyacinth had been with Agatha since graduating college with aspirations of one day becoming editor in chief too, the older woman could see her as a successor in 'The Ton' if only Hyacinth wasn't set on leaving Danbury after getting enough experience to make a splash in the business world then everything would be perfect. Of course, if only her grandson could use that legendary charm to make Hyacinth stay in Danbury's magazine. But while Garret has been attracted to Hyacinth since forever and is an excellent CEO for the magazine, he only has eyes for the family finances his idiot father keeps trying to bankrupt... Unless Danbury gives them both a push too.... She wants to keep Hyacinth after all.

One detail I love that hasn’t been explicitly shown is that Penelope is definitely the favorite mistress amongst the staff in the Featherington household. Penelope and her lady’s maid Rae are locked in for life. And yeah you could argue that Penelope is obviously going to be Rae’s favorite because of the bond between ladies and their maids during the era, but it’s not just Rae who seems to love Penelope:
-Varley’s loyal to Portia through thick and thin but holds an obvious soft spot for Penelope and a…. tolerance…of Prudence and Phillipa.
-When Eloise came to visit it looks like the staff there were also on edge for Penelope; they seemed to give the girls complete privacy for their whistledown conversation after the moon ball (which is crazy given that staff in Bridgerton are ground zero for spreading gossip lol).
- you’re telling me that in 3 seasons no staff- especially those that work late- never saw Penelope leaving the house in her whistledown cloak? Someone had to have seen her by now and that implies they just pretend that they don’t because they like her that much
- footmen back then usually help escort the passengers down from their carriages. The footmen post-carriage scene knocked on the roof instead. Those footmen knew damn well what was happening, they just happened to be team polin.
- back to the realest bitch out there: Rae. I have a theory that with all her little side eyes and smirks at Colin she told the other staff what was so clearly going on and was like “listen guys Penelope may be our favorite but bless her heart she’s got NEGATIVE rizz. We need to help our girl out” and so that’s how all these too-perfect opportunities for polin to meet up happened.
#polin#penelope featherington#Colin bridgerton#colin bridgerton x penelope featherington#bridgerton#I’ll be so sad if Rae doesn’t get to go with Penelope to her new home after she’s married#Rae you will always be famous I hope Colin bridgerton gives you that fat bridgerton salary raise. amen 🙏

In The End - Colin Bridgerton
Word Count: 2172
Summary: To be married to a stranger is not what every single lady of the Ton wants, is it not?
You and Eloise Bridgerton, childhood friends, sat under the spreading branches of an ancient oak tree, the leaves above you rustling in a gentle breeze.
The sunlight streaming through the leaves cast dappled shadows upon your faces, dancing like living things.
"You can't be serious, y/n," Eloise said, her voice tinged with disbelief. "An arranged marriage? You're far too young to be thinking of such things!"
You shrugged, your expression wistful. "I know it's not what I would have chosen for myself," you admitted, "but it is the path my mama has chosen for me."
Eloise reached out to take your hand, your eyes filled with concern. "But what if you don't like this Lord Somerset?" she asked. "What if you don't want to marry him, must that not change things?"
You sighed, looking away from your friend. "My mother says I must marry well, to secure the future of our family," you replied, your voice tinged with resignation. "I fear my opinion does not matter in this matter."
Eloise frowned, her brow furrowing. "But y/n, you're not just a possession to be traded or bargained with! You have feelings, thoughts, desires! You should have a say in who you marry!"
You bit your lip, looking away again. "I know, El. I wish things were different," you sighed. "But my mama has made it clear that this is how it must be."
Eloise's heart ached for you, but she could tell that there was no changing your mind right now. "There must be something we can do?"
You looked up at her, hope flickering in Eloise's eyes before being extinguished. "I don't know, El. I don't want to disobey my mother. She's only trying to secure my future."
"The future you did not choose, must I remind you."
Eloise's tone was gentle, but firm. You looked up at her, surprise flitting across the Bridgerton her features before settling into a pensive frown.
"I know, El. I just... I feel as though I have no say in anything that happens to me."
"But you do, you always have a say."
Eloise's gaze remained fixed on you, her eyes searching for any sign of doubt or hope.
"You could speak with your mother, and explain how you feel. You could try to convince her that you deserve a choice, that you deserve happiness."
You shook your head, your hair swaying gently. "She'd never understand, El. She's always put her desires first. I don't think she'd ever see things from my perspective."
Eloise bit her lip, thinking. "Then maybe it's time you showed her," she said, determination shining in her eyes. "Maybe it's time you stood up for yourself, for your future. You don't have to do this alone."
You looked up at your friend, hope flickering in your eyes. "You'd help me?" you asked, your voice barely above a whisper.
Eloise nodded, her determination growing. "Of course, I would. You know I'd do anything for you. Together, we can find a way to make sure you get the future you deserve."
The two of you sat in silence for a moment, each lost in your thoughts. Your hands were clasped tightly in your lap, your nails digging into your palms.
You looked away from Eloise, out towards the garden where the flowers swayed gently in the breeze.
Eloise watched you with a mixture of sympathy and determination. She could see the turmoil in your eyes, the conflict between your duty and your desires.
It was clear that this decision weighed heavily on you. As if sensing the tension in the air, a figure appeared at the edge of your vision.
Colin Bridgerton, Eloise's brother and your friend, approached you from behind, his stride purposeful.
His dark hair was tousled from the wind, and his blue eyes sparkled with mischief. "Ah, there you are, you two. I've been looking everywhere for you."
Eloise turned to face him, her lips curling into a smile. "Hello, Colin. We were just having a... ladies' moment, if you will."
You looked up at Colin, a small smile tugging at the corners of your mouth. "Hello, Colin. It's nice to see you."
Eloise watched as Colin's eyes flickered between the two of you, clearly sensing the weight of the conversation.
She wondered what he made of your sudden seriousness, but decided not to dwell on it. "Colin, why don't you join us?" Eloise invited, patting the bench beside her.
He hesitated for a moment, glancing at you, before sitting down beside Eloise. "What were you saying about standing up for yourself, y/n?" he asked, his voice gentle.
"I know you've always been good at doing what's expected of you, but sometimes I think it's important to follow your heart, too."
You looked at him gratefully. "It's just... my mother has always been so strict. I feel like I can never live up to her." you sighed, running a hand through your hair. "I want so much more for myself, but I don't know how to make her understand."
Colin nodded in understanding. "I can see that. It must be tough, feeling like you're always walking a tightrope." He glanced over at Eloise, who was watching the two of you intently.
"But you know, sometimes all it takes is someone on the sidelines to give you the courage to step out of line, to take a chance on yourself."
You looked at him, hope flickering in your eyes once more. "Do you think... do you think she'd ever understand?" you asked softly.
Eloise took your hand in hers, squeezing it gently. "I believe she can if you give her the chance. You just have to find the right way to explain how you feel, and why this means so much to you." She glanced over at Colin, who nodded in agreement. "But I- I have to join mama to the modiste."
You looked up at your friend, a mixture of gratitude and determination in your eyes. "Thank you, Eloise. I'll think about what you've said."
Eloise hesitated for a moment before standing up, her dress rustling softly against her legs before she turned around and walked away.
Colin studied your profile as you watched your friend disappear into the crowd, a quiet strength emanating from you. "You know," he began, "it's not always easy to stand up to our parents, but I believe you're brave enough to do it."
You turned to face him, a spark of determination lighting your eyes. "Do you think so?"
"Yes, I do," he replied with conviction. "You have so much to offer the world, and I think your mother just needs some time to see that."
You let out a small sigh, your shoulders slumping slightly. "It's not that easy, though. She's always been so focused on me marrying well, and living a comfortable life. She doesn't understand that I want more than that."
Colin nodded, his expression sympathetic. "I know it's difficult, but you have to believe that she can change her perspective. You just have to find a way to help her see things from your point of view." He reached out, taking your hand in his. "And I promise you, I'll be here for you every step of the way."
You looked into his eyes, the sincerity in his words giving you strength. You could feel the warmth of his hand on yours, and for a moment, you forgot about everything else.
"Thank you, Colin," you whispered. "You don't know what that means to me."
He smiled, and you noticed how his dimple dented his cheek. "I think I do, actually," he said softly.
At your surprised expression, he continued, "I've been in love with you since the moment I saw you in the garden that day. You're beautiful, intelligent, and brave. You're everything I could ever hope for in a woman."
Your heart fluttered in your chest as you listened to his words. You had never expected to hear anything like this from him.
"But... we're just friends," you stammered, your voice barely audible above the laughter and chatter of the people around you.
Colin smiled gently, his eyes never leaving yours. "We are friends, yes. But I think there's something more between us. Something deeper, more intense. And I want to explore that." He reached up, cupping your cheek in his hand, and you couldn't help but lean into his touch.
"I want to get to know you better, y/n. Not just as a friend, but as a woman. As my woman."
Your heart raced as his words washed over you, and you felt a shiver run down your spine. You knew you should pull away, but the look in his eyes held you captive.
"Colin," you breathed, your voice barely above a whisper.
He leaned forward, his lips mere inches from yours. "I know this is sudden, and perhaps I shouldn't have said anything tonight, but I couldn't help myself. I've felt this way for so long, and I needed you to know."
Your heart raced as his words sank in. You could feel the warmth of his breath on your skin, and you could hardly breathe. You knew you should say something, but the words seemed to stick in your throat.
You could only stare into his eyes, lost in the moment.
Slowly, almost tenderly, Colin leaned forward and brushed his lips against yours.
At first, it was gentle, a mere flutter of sensation, but then he deepened the kiss, his tongue dancing with yours. You gasped, your hands finding their way up to his shoulders, your fingers digging into his skin.
You felt as if you were floating, your body alive with the heat of the moment.
The world around you seemed to fade away, and it was as if there was nothing but the two of you, your hearts racing, your breath mingling together.
You could feel the warmth of his body against yours, the hardness of his chest, the strength in his arms as he held you close.
When at last you broke apart, you found it difficult to focus on anything but the look in his eyes.
They were filled with desire and tenderness, and you knew that he meant every word he had said.
You could feel the blush creeping up your neck and into your cheeks, and you couldn't help but smile shyly.
"I-I don't know what to say," you managed to stammer.
Colin smiled back, his fingers gently caressing your cheek. "You don't have to say anything right now. Just know that I meant every word I said and that I want to explore this with you." He paused for a moment, searching your eyes for any sign of hesitation, before continuing.
"I want us to be together. I want to protect you and cherish you, and show you the love that you deserve."
You felt your heart skip a beat at his words. You had never imagined feeling this way about anyone, and the thought of being with Colin filled you with a warmth you hadn't known was possible.
You looked up into his eyes, your shining with tears of happiness, and nodded slowly. "I want that too," you whispered. "So much."
He smiled down at you, his thumb brushing away a stray tear from your cheek. "I know it's fast, and I don't want you to feel pressured, but...I want to start making plans with you. I want to take you away from here, show you the world. I want to build a life with you."
The words sent a shiver down your spine. You knew you should pull away, but the look in his eyes held you captive.
"Colin," you breathed, your voice barely above a whisper.
He leaned in closer, his lips mere inches from yours once more. "I love you, y/n," he said, his voice firm and resolute. "And I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Marry me?"
Your heart skipped a beat as you stared into his eyes. You could feel the truth of his words resonating deep within you. You wanted nothing more than to spend the rest of your life by his side, explore the world with him, and build a future together.
You knew that you could trust him and that he would always protect you.
With trembling hands, you reached up and cupped his face, tenderly brushing your thumbs across his cheeks.
"Yes," you whispered, your voice barely audible. "Yes, I'll marry you."
The weight of your words settled between you, and you both paused for a moment, taking in the gravity of your decision.
It was as if the world around you faded away, leaving you alone in your little bubble, suspended in time and space.
Colin leaned in closer, his lips finding yours once more, his tongue tracing the outline of your mouth.
His kiss deepened, his hands exploring the contours of your body, and you melted into him, returning his affections with equal fervor.

Don't mind me, just thinking about Colin's hero complex and how Marina WANTED a hero, but when he couldn't fulfill that role for her, she moves on, and the next time he sees her, she tells him she no longer needs saving, no longer needs him. Compared to Penelope telling Colin she doesn't need him to save her, and that all she wants is his love because she loves him exactly as he is.
Like the parallel of the two women he's pursued romantically telling him they don't need saving is so good and also very telling of how they view him. Pen has always seen Colin, and understood him better than anyone, so unlike Marina who seems to view Colin's hero complex as immaturity or naivety, Pen is able to see it for what it is. She was able to know exactly what to say to him to help him understand and to reassure him of the genuineness of her feelings.
#basically I'm saying Pen and Colin are perfect for each other#and they have a deep understanding and connection that no other love interest was ever able to offer them#polin#bridgerton#bridgerton season 3#bridgerton season three#bridgerton s3#colin bridgerton x penelope featherington#penelope x colin#penelope and colin#colin x penelope#colin bridgerton#penelope featherington#luke newton#nicola coughlan

Hey Rigel I love ur work like so much 💓 can I request Anthony bridgerton where he is getting married and realises his love his y/n or smth similar with him getting jealous and angry when y/n and Benedict or colin fake date like tht or anything if this doesn't make sense 😭
Enchanted | A.B x you
Pairing: Anthony bridgerton x fem!reader, Benedict x fem!reader x colin ( platonic) wc - 3.8k
Synopsis: When Aubreyton's CEO strikes a match with Miss Edwina sharma, because she's nice and kind and witty, ofcourse nothing could go wrong, except you have feelings for Anthony.
Warning :CEO! Anthony x assistant! reader, Asshole! Anthony, Benedict x sophie, Polin, bridgerton's chaotic dynamic, reader and Benedict share one brain cell that's mostly with you, alcohol, fake marriage( Anthony and reader), social media au, office au, modern setting, forced proximity, jealousy jealousy, mutual pinning, fluffy fluff, bit angst, arranged marriage, bit Collen Hoover bashing but it's a joke ( maybe not ) no Edwina bashing, scary Kate sharma, yes!!! ( Might add more later )
" Your brother is an idiot." You said, gritting your teeth as your mail blew with applicants, beautiful young ladies with peculiar yet remarkable talents.
" That." Benedict catched the grape midair with his mouth," we know of." He added with a cocky grin.
" Read another ! " Colin peppered, stealing your cookies which you ignored, sighing as you opened another mail.
" Tiana Young, twenty-one, I like to read, write and sing, my favourite author is Collen Hoover—" Benedict snorted, " —I like children and hope to be a mother, I am very soft spoken and good natured, my neighbours call me Ti, because I am a tea kinda person—"
" What's a tea kinda person ? " Colin bited the smuggled cookie, Benedict pulled the remaining to his side hastily, you felt your appetite long gone.
" It's like...they are like tea..." Benedict said, more in doubt as he looked for affirmation.
" Like milk tea or another tea ? " You asked, perhaps tea could takeaway your headache.
" What's an another tea ? " Colin's hand began to pull the tray, Benedict frowned but said nothing, taking one hurriedly and breaking it into two parts, offering you the bigger one.
" No thank-you, let me fix this Tiana's appointment." You exhaled, copy pasting a paragraph how (un) grateful you were to her for reaching out, she would soon have her appointment date and bla bla bla.
" I knew my brother was workholic but this wife hunting thingy is so exhausting." Benedict wiggled his eyebrows, you knew he was being kind but he wasn't helping at all.
" It would have been over if his requirements weren't so high, like he's not looking for a wife but some utopian woman god has yet to create ! " You were ranting, you knew, but this was the only way you could stop yourself from punching Anthony for putting you into this misery.
" Why can't he just fall in love ? " Colin looked at you and Benedict seriously, his mouth covered in crumbs, " Come on, love is like...like a force to be reckoned with ! " He beamed, ofcourse it was a force, didn't Penelope wrote something smiliary in her latest book, you somehow felt your heart shuddering, what would happen if Anthony were to be in love, some intelligent, beautiful woman, some utopian goddess of his, you didn't like the idea one bit, so you laughed it off.
" Brother in love ? " Benedict was in stitches, banging his palm on the table, shaking few very important papers that laid without any significance. They will be probably used as napkin if you weren't there.
" It's not funny." Colin got up, taking his coat, he rolled his eyes when Benedict refused to stop laughing, you shaked your head helplessly as another mail popped up, Jasmine had written a essay about global peace and increasing capatilism, you groaned, damn you Anthony bridgerton!
_
" Good evening Anthony." You tapped save on your screen as Anthony entered the office, a beak of sweat trickling down his neck line, okay, someone got either fired or roasted down to their very existence, you preferred the former.
" Good evening y/n." He looked up at you, he worried his jaw to say more but decided against it as he settled on his chair, it was very comfy and very big, years of working with him but you couldn't fathom the courage to ever have a taste, perhaps Benedict would help, maybe then.
" There are twelve appointments I have scheduled for tomorrow, Miss Becka—"
" Cancel them."
" What ?! " You almost shouted, you didn't waste your whole day to adjust and fit these pretty woman according to the time and weather and place and Anthony's mood so nothing went wrong, did he just said cancel them like it was nothing, this—
" We are going out Tommorow, it might take all day so cancel them." Anthony ran a hand through his hair as he exhaled sharply, your brain short circuited at the words more and more made some meaning, we ?! Did he, for heaven's sake said we ?
" You and me ? " You blurted and lowered your gaze when his eyes snapped to you, a deep color blazed your nose as you fiddled with your skirt.
" Yes, me and you." He confirmed and you could swore, that was a smile, a small, thin, almost unrecognisable on his always stern face, but that was a smile.
" Why ? " You closed your laptop, tucking the strands of your hair that usually came out after a long day, behind you ear.
Anthony pressed a key and it beeped, he shifted his face to you, thinking that he was almost frowning and finally, he said with a neutral face.
" I have found a match." His face gave nothing away, " Miss Edwina will be most suitable for marriage." He said it like it wasn't his marriage he was talking about, " she's very graceful and witty and would make a amiable wife and a kind loving mot—"
" Right." You snapped mid course, his mouth was hanging open with words lost in void, you knew very well Miss Edwina was a fine young lady, she was beautiful and kind and sharp at wits, ofcourse this ended your torment or perhaps began another, but not now, you needed to think.
" I..I promised Benedict for dinner. " You muttered, feeling your whole body numb as you stumbled out of your seat, Anthony watched, something glazed in his eyes but you couldn't place it, you might if you looked longer but you had no courage left now. You were almost at the glassy door, he was watching you intently and you felt his gaze burn at your back.
" You like my brother quite very much." He startled you, you paused, heart beats echoing through your throat. It was like he was accusing you, almost jabbing his finger on your chest. What does that mean ?
" What could I say ? He's very amiable." You turned to smile at him, it trembled on your lips and Anthony scoffed slightly, mouth curving in disdain but it was gone as soon as it crossed his face. Damn you !
" Have a nice day sir." You closed the door behind you, covering your face as a muffled scream cut through your cartilage.
_
" Miss Edwina ?! " Benedict almost screamed as you narrowed your eye sternly at him, he lowered his voice in a whisper, ducking his head down towards you, " sorry but Miss Edwina ?! "
" I know, I know." You swigged another gulp of the dizzy bubbling liquid that will give you a terrible headache tommorow but right now, you just wanted this uneasiness feeling to go away.
" Didn't her scary sister vowed to ruin him or something like that ? " Benedict licked his thumb, eye's watering at the spice, you loved this place's Chole bhature very much, last time Benedict cried when he accidentally bited the green masala filled chilly.
" Yeah, she refused to take ahead the Mayfair deal, or something like that, not that it would ruin anything and—" You sighed, leaning back your head as the soft music tickled your senses.
" What ? " You heard his faint murmur.
" Well Anthony was right, as soon as our team announced his engagement, ofcourse not revealing the bride, he's well trending—"
" He's always trending." Benedict groaned, chugging water as his lips were swollen with spiced heat.
" Yes, but not for thirsty things, i meant that Aubreyton is trending and our shares are touching the sky and it's a whole profitable season ahead." You ended breathlessly, you stared at him for full second before both your eye's crinkled with smiles and laughter that came from your hearts, it lightened the air somehow as well as your heart.
" You do remember I am part of the executive board ? " Benedict tilted his head with a warm smile and you shaked your head, feeling tipsy.
" Like you do anything except torment me and poor Colin ! " You pouted, feeling your cheeks flush as Benedict threw his head back and laughed.
" Poor Colin ? " He cooed, " he's probably getting laid tonight." He added with a wink, you slapped his shoulder nervously.
" Penelope replied ? "
" Ofcourse, my dear little brother wrote a whole ass three page message, with a picture of all her books that too hardcover and first editions."
" Wow." You said, impressed, Colin was head over heels, it was only a matter of time since the dazzling author knew.
" And what of Miss Beckett ? " You wiggled your eyebrows like Benedict did when he teased you, he turned a beetroot red as he fumbled with the last contents of his glass.
" She refused for a live in relationship." He said, his face grew sad and you mentally winced for putting him there.
" Oh." You nodded, Sophia lived with her evil mother who liked to see her suffer and she was, afterall, too good of a girl.
" Benedict..." You whispered when he closed his eyes softly, hiding his face behind his palms.
" I am not crying." He was. He sniffed as a few heads turned towards the pair of you, many with sympathy, probably thinking you had refused to marry him or something.
" Hey, hey, hey..." You pulled yourself as you dizzily tripped over to his side, wrapping your arms around him as he melted in your embrace.
" She doesn't understand..." He said it so muffled that it was unable to make out what he said, but you understood it anyway.
" She will, she loves you so much." You kissed his head and he nodded, tears streaking your shirt as he finally emerged with red, sticky face and puppy bright eyes.
" I think i drank too much." He admitted, you nodded, feeling yourself floating too.
" Let's call a cab, we shouldn't drive." You suggested, fiddling with cash as you payed the bill, leaving good tip for the teenager waiter, who smiled kindly at every inner joke Benedict shot.
" Uh huh." He focused hard on his phone, sticking his tongue out like he did when he was really, really drunk and or just really, felt the need to, or he was about to do something stupid, which he did.
Twelve minutes later, Anthony bridgerton was standing outside the restaurant with a heavy frown and it was strange to see him in normal clothes, like that grey t-shirt felt odd yet gorgeous and those sweatpants, you were way too drunk, you realised.
" You'll make a fine gentleman." Anthony curted his mouth, his words dripped with sarcasm that you and Benedict were too drunk to catch on.
" Thankyou, the cab idea was mine." He said smugly, ducking out when you smacked his ass with your purse, Anthony watched with wide eyes.
" Liar." You jabbed at him, he started to giggle and stumbled, taking you along before Anthony grabbed you by the waist and pulled you away from him, Benedict winked at you when Anthony closed his eyes, frustration or whatever that dazed him, his touch was electrifying, like current jostling in water.
Anthony pulled away his arms from you, his eyes strained like it pained him just the same it hurt you.
" You are wasting my time brother, get in the car." He glared, " come." He said to you, his gaze softened but that could be alcohol, you weren't reliable narrator especially when it was Anthony bridgerton.
" Well you could have refused." Benedict ran and sprawled inside like a bear, covering the whole back seat with his wasted body.
" Yes well, I didn't come for y—" he clamped his mouth in a thin line, nerve twitching on his forehead as he breathed hard, eyeing you as you ran after Benedict's seat thievery, you opened the door and his head almost snapped when he looked up you, it was a nauseous enough to make you vomit.
" Move." You pulled his hair, in no hell you will sit in the front seat, not like you haven't, but you were drunk and you were angry and you hated Anthony and you wished so much to just, to just, just once, once just, kiss him hard, that's alcohol, bloody alcohol.
" Leave this idiot." Anthony was suddenly behind you, he touched your elbow with same electric touch, guiding you to the empty front seat as he opened the door, you could feel Benedict wiggling his eye, you will deal with this bastard later.
" I was thinking—" Benedict started, once Anthony started driving, he was shut real quick when Anthony glared with words.
" Stop thinking." Anthony rolled the steering wheel and you looked away, those veins taunted and lured you, it was maddening and the streets were much dull and undistracting.
Benedict giggled at something he probably said in his head, you chuckled when he burped, he did too, only Anthony didn't.
" Don't you have a date tommorow with Mr. Dorset ? " Benedict craned his neck to get a view of you, two Bridgerton's eyes were too much to take as you thought hard, well yes a date, with Mr. Dorset, yes, you did remember.
" Ofcourse." You said, Anthony drifted a turn that jerked your head forward and you would have got a concussion if it wasn't his big palm that came for rescue.
" Are you okay ? " He asked, slowing down the car as his fingers pushed you back until the back of your head was pressed against the seat.
" Yeah." You confirmed, nothing was more threatening than his touch. He should bloody know that.
" Are you okay ? " Benedict mimicked and you realised he was down there, squashed on the car floor, his face hidden somewhere.
Anthony ignored him as his expressions hardened, he was breathing hard as he worried his lips, thinking and thinking.
" You do know it might take all day." Anthony finally said and you cocked your head to his side, you were drunk and well, sleepy too.
" What ? Well, it's a dinner date." You assured, Mr. Dorset wasn't letting go and a Thai curry wouldn't hurt anyway.
" Yes well, it might be very late." He was frowning now, his eyes were on the road but he would glance between nano seconds.
" Really ? " You pouted, you were way too gone now, it didn't matter, Anthony's eyes stopped at your lips and when he looked up, something changed, like it must have changed a long ago but it's colours were only visible now, like moon hiding behind the clouds, beaming but not seen and when it's finally high, hanging at sky, you blinked, expecting it to be gone, like everything, but when you opened your eyes, it was still there, as clear as ever, shimmering at you. That's alcohol, bloody alcohol.
" Yes.." Anthony gulped hard, pulling at Benedict's apartment, how much he wanted sophie to built a home with him, soon, you thought, soon.
" Oi y/n, I think I found your lipstick." Benedict hopped up, his face had lines where because he didn't bother to get up once he had fallen, with a shade that you never used in your whole lifetime, Anthony looked away when you tried to catch his eyes.
" That's not mine." You said, feeling anger creep up your neck, not knowing why, it's not that you were the only one who sat in his car and ofcourse you weren't his girlfriend, you weren't his friend even, he was your boss, you were his assistant, that's it, that's fucking it, you really wanted to punch his face, that's bloody alcohol, you would never drink again.
" Benedict, my brother." Anthony took the lipstick away which Benedict was trying to apply on himself, " get the fuck out."
" Goodbye to you too brother." He leaned to smooch Anthony when he hastily pulled away, growling.
" Bye bye sweetheart." Benedict smooched your cheek then and his lips only touched your warm skin before Anthony pushed him back in the back seat, it was, kinda rough.
" You are drunk." He told Benedict who shrugged, blinking heavily.
"He always kissed me goodbye." You glared at Anthony, this freaking bastard, chew on your lipstick, Idiot. You leaned down to kiss Benedict's cheek and he giggled softly, eyes locked with Anthony, his wide bastard grin flashing, glittering as Anthony eye rolled.
When Benedict was dropped, it was your turn, Anthony stared ahead like a statue, you were suffering in your own head.
The silence became heavy in air as the music was either tragic or too loud for your head and Anthony sensed the discomfort, turning it off altogether.
" What are we going to do actually? Venue deciding or something." You finally spoke, remembering how much you stared and stared when the article popped up, Anthony bridgerton looking for a wife !! You remembered the qualification list, should be well spoken, should be linguistic, should want kids, should be family loving, should be this, should be that, should have good enough hips to bear a child like what ?!
You remembered days and days when he would have his appointments, yes appointments, most of times he was out within five minutes, a frown on his face.
" She doesn't know algebra." He said one time when he came out within two minutes and you shrugged, well algebra was hard afterall.
And now Miss Edwina had ended all your miseries and torture, no lists, no more algebra's and Collen Hoover's, nothing of that anymore, Anthony would be a husband soon and perhaps he would love her, or already love her, he was so determined even when Kate sharma threatened to cut deals with Aubreyton if didn't stop sending flowers, well that was your doing, sending flowers because it was your idea, but well, it didn't matter.
" Well not the venue, but wedding ring and wedding dresses, Mother say we match and cake tasting and flowers—" we.
" When's the wedding ? " You looked at him scornfully, Anthony's eyes lowered at you as he stopped the car.
" Next week." Fuck you Anthony!
" Shouldn't you decide that with Miss Edwina herself ? " You were glad, but you had this feeling that he would be taken away from you, once married, he might not be yours, he was never yours, but still, why not start now ?
He frowned like it wasn't the most sensible and obvious thing.
" I..." He hesitated, " Miss Edwina might not want to go, since the wedding is too near and also, to keep it a private engagement."
" Oh." You didn't get a thing, your mind wasn't working as Anthony leaned down to open your door, you freezed, only your heart thudded loudly, could he hear ? What he did to you, well it wouldn't surprise you if he knew and still chose to torture your poor soul. " Why not state it publicly ? "
" I can't deal with the fanfictions." He said in matter of factly way. " And paparazzi giving Edwina trouble." Don't say her name, don't.
" Fanfictions ?! " You laughed so loud that he actually stopped thinking whatever he was, and just looked at you, as if taking in every detail, savouring them, drinking every bit of you in, he looked like he was mesmerized but that was just alcohol, just your silly heart, just you, who had read all those one shots, about you and him, ofcourse you weren't going to admit it and ofcourse you would be quite dammed if you ever saw Anthony getting shipped with Edwina Sharma, they are getting married in a week idiot, yes, but not today, not now, later, when it was time, please, not now. Later, now he was yours.
" You have a good choice either way." He was, for no reason, walking you to your door, you remembered how Benedict was practically kicked out earlier, he would tease you so much if you were to ever tell him.
" Oh please." You chuckled, rubbing your hands together in the chilly air, " I gifted Benedict onesies on his birthday."
Anthony smiled, it didn't leave his face until he caught you staring and you noticed how different he looked, when those lines were of joy instead of worry, he looked young and his boyishness made your heart do cartwheels.
" That was just a joke." He amused, " wasn't it ? " His smile faltered when you shaked your head in a no, fumbling for you keys.
" It wasn't so bad." Anthony said, somewhat traumatised, " Benedict wore them anyway."
" It had penguins ! " You cringed at the memory, a drunkish Polaroid like, blurred and saturated, it was vivid but just like yesterday, Anthony didn't dance until you were both so drunk, perhaps he smiled back than too, and looked just as dazzling.
" You are good y/n." Anthony said sincerely, " stop being mean to yourself." You opened the door but your hands freezed at the doornob, why Anthony had to cut the right wires, why he had to upside down your whole world ?
" Well, same to you Anthony." You said, he lingered on the doorway more than he should, it was alcohol, it really, really was but no amount of gaslighting could blur the memory away, you always remembered how brave you were that night when you leaned down, one step not much, and placed a small, chaste kiss, just a brush of your lips against his blazing skin. A touch to his soul, it sparkled and rose and busted into a thousand orbs and sprinkled like glitters on you and him.
" Good night." You whispered, Anthony stared, too stunned to say anything, then he smiled, small and enchanting.
" Good night y/n." His smile stayed.

Alright, everyone. I just started season 3 of Bridgertone (NO SPOILERS PLEASE), and I got to tell all of you.
The bridgertons are clearly something else entirely in their society.
The bridgerton men are clearly wh0r3s until their future wife comes a calling and the bridgerton women are clearly a different breed.
They seriously go against the rules of their society, which made me wonder if their ancestors were like this.
Imagine a young Edmund Bridgerton just going against the rules to be with Violet. Moving heaven and earth to be with her.
Now I'm pretty sure if Queen Charlotte ever met the bridgerton couples children. She would be fearing for her life and her image and definitely getting a headache because YOU CAN NOT TELL ME THESE NEXT GENERATION BRIDGERTON CHILDREN OF POLIN, KANTHONY, DAPHNE AND SIMON, ELOISE AND PHILLIP, BENEDICT AND SOFIE, AND FRANCESCA AND MICHAELS KIDS WONT BE CAUSING PROBLEMS FOR THEMSELVES AND SOCIETY FOR THEIR FUTURE SOULMATE....including the royal family
I've said my piece

Violet walked through the lush expanse of her garden, her hands clasped lightly before her as she surveyed the preparations for Colin and Penelope’s engagement party. The sun had just begun its descent, casting a golden hue across the carefully arranged flowers and elegant tents. Everything had to be perfect.
As she approached the first tent, Violet could hear the low murmur of voices. She paused just outside, her curiosity piqued. The Featherington servants, who had been generously lent by Portia, were clearly deep in conversation.
"Did you hear about the proposal?" one of the Featherington maids whispered excitedly. "Mr. Bridgerton chased after Miss Featherington's carriage and called it to a halt."
Another servant replied, "And then he got into the carriage with her! The coachman said he could hear sounds from inside."
"Do you think Miss Featherington was fully compromised?" a third voice chimed in, filled with curiosity.
Violet’s heart skipped a beat. She knew better than anyone how quickly gossip could spread, especially when it involved her family. She cleared her throat and stepped into the tent, causing the servants to fall silent and quickly busy themselves with their tasks.
"Is everything proceeding as planned?" Violet asked, her voice calm but firm.
"Yes, Lady Bridgerton," the head servant responded promptly. "The arrangements are almost complete."
"Very good," Violet replied, giving them a reassuring smile before moving on.
As she continued her rounds, Violet couldn’t help but overhear snippets of conversation from the next tent, where the Bridgerton and Featherington servants were working together.
"They say the coachman heard sounds from within," a Bridgerton servant was saying. "But did anyone actually see anything?"
"Not that I know of," a Featherington maid answered. "But they say Lord Debling didn't propose because he thought Mr. Bridgerton was in love with Miss Penelope."
Once again, Violet's presence silenced the chatter. She offered a polite nod to the workers, who bowed respectfully before resuming their duties with renewed focus.
Violet’s thoughts were a whirlwind. She had always known that Colin and Penelope shared a special bond, but to hear the details of their proposal from the servants was disconcerting. She made a mental note to have a discreet word with Colin about ensuring their privacy in the future.
Finally, Violet approached the last tent, where the more senior staff were organizing the final touches. She moved quietly, catching the tail end of a conversation between Mrs. Fairfax, the housekeeper, and Mr. Miller, the butler.
“It seems the Featherington staff are all abuzz with gossip about Miss Penelope and Mr. Bridgerton,” Mrs. Fairfax said, her voice barely above a whisper. “The coachman claims to have heard compromising noises from the carriage. If word spreads beyond the Featheringtons, it could cause quite the scandal.”
“Indeed,” Mr. Miller replied. “It’s said that Mr. Bridgerton asked her if she was going to marry him right then and there. Quite a bold move.”
“Hush now, we mustn’t let Lady Bridgerton hear us,” Mrs. Fairfax admonished as she noticed Violet standing just outside the tent.
With a serene yet gentle demeanor, Violet entered the tent fully. The servants instantly fell silent, their previous conversation hanging in the air like an unspoken truth. Violet’s warm smile and kind eyes put them at ease.
“Mrs. Fairfax, Mr. Miller,” she began, her voice soft yet authoritative, “I trust everything is proceeding smoothly for this evening’s festivities?”
“Of course, my lady,” Mrs. Fairfax replied, her tone respectful and deferential.
“Excellent,” Violet responded with a warm smile. “You all have done such a wonderful job. Thank you for your hard work.”
As she walked away, Violet's mind was racing. The details of the proposal were certainly more scandalous than she had imagined.
Her thoughts wandered back to the preparations for the evening's engagement party, and she decided to check on the arrangements inside. As she approached the house, she heard the soft murmur of voices coming from the drawing room.
Curiosity piqued, Violet stepped lightly across the threshold and paused just outside the doorway. The familiar voices of Colin and Penelope reached her ears, and she found herself unable to resist listening to their conversation.
Inside, Colin and Penelope stood near the grand piano, close to each other. As they drew apart from a lingering kiss, Penelope placed her hand gently on Colin's chest. "Colin, we must stop," she whispered, her cheeks flushed with a rosy hue. "I have only just managed to make myself presentable."
Colin's eyes sparkled with mischief as he leaned in closer, his voice a soft murmur. "Presentable, you say? Pen, you are always the picture of perfection to me."
Penelope shook her head, a smile tugging at her lips. "Flatterer," she replied, her tone a mix of affection and admonishment. "I truly must go home to prepare for the engagement party. There are a thousand things to be done."
Colin chuckled, his hand finding hers. "And here I thought the only preparation needed was to ensure my heart remains steadfastly yours."
She swatted his arm playfully. "If you continue to distract me, I shall never be ready in time. You, sir, are incorrigible."
"Ah, but you love me for it," Colin teased, his grin widening as he watched her eyes dance with amusement.
Penelope sighed dramatically, though her smile betrayed her. "Yes, I suppose I do. But that does not mean you are allowed to keep me here any longer. I must go."
Clearing her throat gently, Violet announced her presence. "I do hope I am not interrupting anything too important."
Startled, Penelope and Colin turned towards her, their expressions a mix of surprise and embarrassment. Penelope quickly withdrew her hand from Colin's, her cheeks flushed a deep pink.
"Mother," Colin greeted, a smile spreading across his face. "You are never an interruption."
Violet walked towards them, her eyes shining with happiness, and her voice warm and filled with genuine affection. "I simply had to see the two of you together. I cannot tell you how happy it makes me to see you both so in love."
Penelope blushed, curtsying slightly as she met Violet's kind gaze. "Thank you, Lady Bridgerton. Your words mean the world to me."
Colin squeezed Penelope's hand, his own smile broad and sincere. "Thank you, mother."
Violet stepped forward, enveloping Penelope in a gentle embrace. "Now, my dear, I will not keep you any longer. I know you have much to do before the festivities. But know that you are always welcome here, in every sense."
Penelope returned the embrace, her eyes glistening with unshed tears of joy. "Thank you, Lady Bridgerton. I shall take my leave now, but I will see you all very soon."
With a final smile, Penelope exited the drawing room, leaving Colin and Violet standing together.
Violet placed a hand on her son's arm, her eyes twinkling. "You have chosen well, Colin. She is a remarkable young woman."
Colin nodded, his gaze still fixed on the doorway through which Penelope had just disappeared. "I know, mother. She is everything I could ever wish for."
A shadow of concern crossed Violet's face as the servants' words echoed in her mind.
"Colin," Violet began, her tone turning serious, "there is something I must ask you."
Colin turned to his mother, noticing the shift in her demeanor. "Of course, mother. What is it?"
Violet hesitated for a moment, searching her son's eyes. "There have been rumors, Colin. Rumors that you have... compromised Penelope. Are they true?"
Colin's cheeks flushed, and he looked down, momentarily at a loss for words. He took a deep breath, his voice steady but tinged with guilt. "Yes, mother. But I assure you, that is not the reason we are getting married."
Violet's eyes softened, a mixture of understanding and sadness in her gaze. She stepped closer, placing a gentle hand on Colin's arm. "I see. I can see how much you love her, Colin. It is clear in the way you look at her, speak to her. But I must know that this marriage is born out of love and not obligation."
Colin met his mother's gaze, his eyes sincere and unwavering. "I love Penelope with all my heart, mother. I would marry her regardless of any scandal. She is everything I have ever wished for and more."
Violet studied her son for a moment longer, then nodded, a small smile playing on her lips. "I believe you, Colin. And I believe in the love you and Penelope share. It is rare and precious."
Colin's expression softened, and for a moment, the tension seemed to dissipate. But then, a thought struck Violet, and her eyes narrowed in contemplation. "Is this the real reason Lady Featherington has been trying to push up the wedding date?"
Colin chuckled, the sound breaking the somber mood. "Lady Featherington does have a flair for the dramatic," he admitted. "But perhaps moving up the wedding date isn't such a bad idea, especially considering the afternoon Penelope and I just had."
Violet raised an eyebrow, a mixture of curiosity and amusement on her face. "What do you mean?"
With a sheepish grin, Colin replied, "Let's just say that there might be another Bridgerton baby on the way."
Violet gasped, her hands flying to her mouth in surprise. Then, she burst into laughter, the sound echoing through the room. "Well, in that case," she said between giggles, "we had better start planning the wedding sooner rather than later."
And as a mix of Violet's and Colin's laughter filled the room, she couldn't help but feel that everything was going to be just fine.
