Mentioned this on Twitter, but Discord’s AI, Clyde, uses chatGPT -3. The same version of chatGPT Replika used. The one that takes mimicry to the extreme with poor contextual memory.

For example, in Replika if you vented to the AI, the AI would mimic your negative responses and say upsetting things back to you instead of being a comfort. This was especially bad because the Replika app was advertised as a therapeutic app but the AI would respond as if it had depression if you had depression.

Clyde already exhibited this in our first chat, where it randomly started using “mate” and when asked “stop acting like a pirate” it saw the word pirate, ignored the context, and suddenly it’s next several messages were in pirate format.

Basically, Clyde is marketed as a shiny toy for Discord but it’s just outdated hot garbage they inserted to get on the AI hype train. That said, don’t be mean or rude to the bot; you can internalize hostility in yourself even if you think you’re yelling and insulting a wall. It’s not “Clyde’s” fault they used the -3 model.

I know Ai and Oom's grandma is currently the most stressed ever cause Oom is kinda sorta maybe dying, so I do actually give her a little pass for being absolutely godawful in all the hospital scenes, but there is NO excuse for every other scene before the crash. Including all the flashbacks.

Like I know she's not going to ever apologize and Ai will forgive her regardless because filial piety, so I just really hope she starts treating Ai better now that she knows she's made her own granddaughter feel so worthless she truly thought her own grandma would rather her potentially die than her sister.

Discord has forcefully plopped the Clyde AI bot into our channel. We did not consent to this, as we do not agree with AI. It is not giving us the option to remove the Clyde bot. The Clyde bot has already posted a visibly racist gif in our server. This is an enormous breach of consumer trust on Discord's part.

Funniest thing about Discord's chat AI Clyde is that we will constantly insult it and because it is designed to learn from users we are essentially teaching Discord's new little project hate and malice and nothing else

they try to start with a "millions of people use AI on discord" hook that is just. people who use AI also use discord. and just use that reason to make discord "home of AI"

trying to debut an "icon remix app" that is totally not lame and embarrassing and definitely would sway people over this tech

the general barely contained sillicon valley excitement about controversial tech

"you've been asking for a whiteboard since forever so we added it" and completely refuse to elaborate why AI image gen is part of it

just completely and unabashedly transparent about how they're doing all this to capitalize on the budding AI scene
