Please read
I've been protesting since i was two. I have memorised the chants, the speeches, the songs, the same arguments over and over and *over* again. I have signed over 500 petitions, i have attended over 150 marches, I have presented over 10 speeches personally. I don't remember when I learned about climate change because i always knew, so why didn't others?
I remember asking my Mother when i was around eight where she first learnt about it. When she was in year 8, back in 89-90. She said to me "I remember my teacher explaining it to us and thinking 'why isn't anyone doing anything'" She told me it's not that we don't have the answers, its we don't have the materials.
Now I know that is code for "the government is refusing to fund this" or "The government doesn't believe this is an issue" ect ect. Again and again, a new issue that needs to be solved or address or fixed before "we can focus on climate change"
Let me tell you ***You can not fight every battle*** But I try to. This latest "stunt" [Aliens aren't real] by the USA is yet another distraction from the biggest issue, The Atlantic ocean is facing a collapse.
Due to amount of cold water coming from the melted Greenland Ice sheets, It will cause the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) to collapse and shut down.
The last time this happened was around 15,000-14,500 years ago, at the end of the last ice age. It lead to a collapse of weather cycles, temperatures plunge and spike, ecosystems to collaspe.
If it collapses, La Niña could become the norm for Australia.
You can do something. I know because I've done something. So do it.

Global Climate Strike - What I´ve got to say
I thought I´d share the speech that I made today at my city´s climate strike. It went quite well and I hope that in this way I can reach a few more people. :)
Hello and thank you all for coming! My name is Sam, I´m here with and on behalf of Klimatstudenterna, a student association at the university.
When I joined the association, it was out of a desire to meet people who think like me and who care as much about this planet and its incredible, unique nature as I do. I grew up in the alps and I´m spending a lot of time biking, hiking, kayaking, trekking, and diving through this diverse and awe-inspiring wonderland that we call home. But I´ve also been aware of its problems since the age of seven, and now that I´m studying environmental engineering, I´m closer to the gruesome reality that we face than ever before.
We are living in a time of change, and time to change the direction in which we are going is running short. However, today I don´t want to focus on all the negative effects that we are having on this planet, but to offer a change of perspective.
For most of humanity´s existence, we´ve been at nature´s mercy. At the mercy of the weather, of bad harvests, of the seasons and the animals that competed with us for food and shelter. All of that has changed within less than two centuries. Scientists have declared that the stable period that allowed us to become what we are today, has ended. The Holocene, the geographical age that we´ve been living in for the past 10.000 years, has ended, and we have entered the Anthropocene, the age of humans. Because we are the factor with the greatest influence on planet earth. That is a scary thought. We are no longer cradled within the embrace of the big wide world, the world is depending on our decisions to thrive. Or not to thrive, because this will not be the case for long. In a short few years, climate change will be the decisive factor that will change the face of the earth. We´ve sown wind, and we´ll harvest storm. Maybe more storm than we can take.
However, the window is still open to do something about that. We are in the age of the Anthropocene, and it is up to us to decide in which way we want to shape the planet. Do we want to exploit and deforest it? Or do we want to give that space back to the wilderness? Do we want to keep polluting the oceans with plastic, phosphorus and PFAS? Or do we want to protect and clean them, so our children will experience clear waters and abundant marine live, like our grandparents did. Do we want to be the destructors of this planet? Or its shepherds?
It is a great responsibility, and I don´t like the thought of humanity being this powerful, but it´s time to feel responsible  for all the living things out there, because it really is up to us. We have to decide if we want to be the shepherds or the destructors of this planet. We have to decide that as a species, as a country, as a region, as a commune, and also as individuals. Likewise, every bit of climate action is needed, global action as much as nationwide, regional, communal, and individual action. At the same time, because there is no time to dawdle and argue about who should fix it, EVERYONE should fix it, in their own way and capacity.
Be it biking to work, be it investing in clean energy. Be it voting in favor of the environment in the upcoming EU-election, and any other election, or be it voting in favor of the environment as a part of the EU-parliamen, or any other parliament. Be it making informed purchase decisions, or maybe not purchasing anything at all. Be it growing tomatoes on your balcony or turning your mass production pig farm into a mushroom farm. From parliaments to nursing homes and from work places to living rooms, there is something that everyone of us can do right now to fix this.
I want to be a shepherd of the earth.
What about you?

A major misconception in the Green, Environmentalist, Solarpunk, and adjacent movements is that Combustion Technology and other "Dirty" Technologies are necessarily damaging to our Environment.
These Technologies have become so damaging to the Environment because of their ever continually expanding Exploitative use, as a product of Capitalism.
This misconception comes from the Green movement being both a Political and Aesthetic movement. A significant part of the Green movement is imagining an Aspirational Future- in opposition to the problems of the Present and Cataclysmic Future of ongoing Climate Change.
A typical Image of a Green Future is one of whitewashed towers adorned with solar panels and geodesic domes, underneath churning wind turbines and blimps, all this broken up by corridors of green fruit bearing foliage.
Green Aesthetics aspire to a Green Future with Technology that is itself Non-Exploitative- of both Nature and Humanity, that at least appears to be Scientific, and above all "Clean".
A typical Green image of the Cataclysmic Future- the "Climate Apocalypse"- is one of thick black smog clogging up the sky, endless fields of dry cracked earth, masses of people huddled hungry sleeping outside, men in dark clothes carrying heavy guns to hold hostage the last drop of oil.
The Green imagination of the Cataclysmic Future is exaggerated reflection of the horrors of Modern Capitalism- a future in which Technology is Violent, Crude, and "Dirty".
The Cataclysmic Future is an Uncontrollable Factory of Human Suffering. The Green Future is a neatly Maintained Garden of Ecological Harmony. Our Technology then gains a mythological character of its own, it becomes a Behemoth of a deeper more powerful Nature, a Behemoth of "Human Nature" to be conquered.
This is not to say that burning Fossil Fuels doesn't create CO2 emissions that have lead to Climate Change, or that their extraction doesn't pollute local ecosystems- rather that Combustion Technology can and will continue to warm people's homes after we dismantle Capitalism, without the Exploitation.
In this myth we forget that Technology is in the hands of people, Technology is as violent as the system it is used under, and as clean as the means by which it was created. It is a mater of seizing it from the powerful.
This myth also obfuscates the ongoing nature of the Climate Crisis, that the continues to compound the stresses of Late Capitalism and Colonialism on the Global Working Class. The Factory of Human Suffering is already here, and yet it is only a Factory. It was created by people, is maintained by people, and will be destroyed by people- all we need is a Strike.
Capitalism will not survive the Climate Crisis- but we will. No one can say what the world will look like on the other side, but it wont be a Garden or a Factory- at least one that is totally in or out of our control.
We do not need any newly Invented Technology to grasp the Future, we will use whatever tools we have when we get there.

i keep waiting to feel as mature as i thought teenagers in books were when i was little, but i never do. i think it just further hammers in the point of how fucked up it is to put the world on the shoulders of sixteen year olds.

Finished chapter one of Climate Strike, so far so good. I still need a firmer grasp on what their theory/solution means/is. But he’s laid out very anti-capitalist principles, elaborating how racism and imperial colonialism is the main cause of climate change, and in order to save the earth and ourselves we have to get rid of the systems we have in place now, replacing capitalism with something new. Obviously yes. This is all true so I’m very interested in seeing what else this is about
