The documentary Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story has captivated audiences and critics alike, earning a remarkable 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. This deeply moving film takes you on a profound journey through the life of Christopher Reeve, who skyrocketed to fame as an iconic film star before a devastating horse-riding accident in 1995 left him paralyzed from the neck down. Yet, Reeve’s story didn’t end there. Instead, it became one of extraordinary resilience. He redefined courage, dedicating his life to advocating for spinal cord injury research and fighting for the rights of people with disabilities.
Adding even more emotional weight to the film is the participation of Christopher Reeve’s children, who reflect on their father’s life and legacy with honesty and love. Matthew Reeve, his eldest son, shares in the documentary his hopes for what audiences will take away—not just about his father, but about their family as a whole, including Reeve's wife, Dana. Dana was Christopher’s unwavering partner in life and adversity, yet tragically passed away not long after him.
While promoting the movie, Matthew spoke about his father’s essence, reminding us that Christopher Reeve wasn’t just the man who donned Superman’s cape or the man who faced immense challenges head-on. He was also a devoted husband, a caring father, and a profoundly brave individual who, like all of us, was imperfect yet incredibly human.
Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story is now streaming on Max.

Okay so this might or might not come as a surprise but I my first superhero movie was Superman (1978) with Christopher Reeve as Superman. I watched on tv and it started my love of superheroes. I say this so you understand when I say I am bawling my eyes out, because I just watched the new documentary on max. It’s ‘Super/Man : the Christopher Reeve story’ 10/10 recommend .

Not only does it explore this actor’s legacy, but also look at what made him the hero he had to be. After the accident which left him paralyzed, he fell into a dark, depressive state. If it wasn’t for his fans, his life’s journey might have ended…

Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story (dirs. Ian Bonhôte & Peter Ettedgui).
DC's documentary biopic about the incredible life story of the actor made famous for his seminal 1978 portrayal of the Man of Steel on the big screen puts his many personal trials and professional tribulations into clarity. We learn how his 1995 horseriding accident left him paralyzed from the neck down and his subsequent activism for the disabled community forged new awareness for those struggling for better accessibility in the world. It's moving portrait of resilience, perseverance, and sacrifice. You'll believe a (Super)man can walk again...

Everything seemed to happen quickly in Christopher Reeve's life: Superman made him an overnight success, and then a horse-riding accident toolkit all away in an instant, paralyzing him and saddling him with the health problems that ultimately led to his death at the young age of 52. Now, a new documentary, Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, takes a closer look at his life, in part through the eyes of the people who knew him best: his family. Christopher's son, Will Reeve, was one of those participating in the documentary, and said he was very impressed with the way the producers and directors approached the project.
Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story is now playing in theaters.

"Super/Man": What makes a hero
Christopher Reeve was Superman in every sense. No other actor can ever measure up to how well he played the part, nor the real life courage he displayed long after he hung up the cape.
Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story is a chronicle made by his children and friends about his life after the accident that paralyzed him and the actions he took to help the disabled community. While it is a tough watch, it somehow manages to be one of the more uplifting documentaries from this year--or at least one that isn't about a scumbag. We've had way too many of those lately...
Reeve is very revered in Hollywood, and much deservedly so. But the documentary doesn't shy away from his flaws. One of his last roles before the accident was a TV movie, Above Suspicion, where he played a cop that gets paralyzed. One interview shown in the documentary has him recount how he'd visit the rehabilitation centers for research and would be secretly glad he wasn't in the patients' shoes--something that he would obviously regret later. But I think that's a very normal reaction to have. None of us want to imagine being in that position; we all take our bodies and abilities for granted. Reeve led a very active lifestyle: sailing, horseback riding, flying planes, sports...and then the accident happened, and everything changed. How does one go on when they can no longer do all the things they love, let alone be physically there for their family?
For Reeve, it was a rough road. It was only with the assurances of love and support from wife, children, and friends, that he was able to find the courage to keep going. He was determined to move forward, not only for himself, but to help others like him. And that made a huge difference in many lives, despite how some disability advocate groups criticized his approach. I'm not going to get into that because it's not my place. Yet the one thing I hope we all can agree on was that his heart was in the right place.
Superman buffs will be thrilled at all the footage and anecdotes about the making of the franchise. While some of his fellow thespians in the theater community accused him of selling out, it cannot be denied that he put his heart and soul in the role. Even if his other films never quite measured up to the Man of Steel, his real life heroism took on a life of his own.
More than anything, Super/Man is a moving depiction of what Reeve came to believe a true hero is: an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure despite overwhelming odds. We need such people now more than ever.

"Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story"
An inspirational portrait of an extraordinary man who became a symbol of hope and resilience for so many.
