Twins 11 Padres 4 W-Woods Richardson (5-3) L-Waldron (7-11)

The Minnesota Twins have lost a pair of tough games in San Diego. They looked to avoid the sweep this afternoon at Petco Park. The Twins started the scoring in the third when Willi Castro walked and Trevor Larnach doubled to right. Royce Lewis hit a sacrifice fly to center to put the Twins on the board. The Twins got back to work in the fourth when Eddie Julien and Christian Vazquez singled. Austin Martin doubled home a pair to extend the Twins lead to three. Willi Castro lined a run-scoring double to right to keep the chain moving. Trevor Larnach reached on an infield single and Royce Lewis hit an RBI single to center. Matt Wallner then crushed a Matt Waldron cutter out to right for a three-run homer. This put the Twins up by eight after four innings of play. Minnesota kept adding on in fifth as Eddie Julien singled and Austin Martin doubled him home. Trevor Larnach plated another run with a base hit to left. This put the Twins up by ten, but the Padres got on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Donovan Solano knocked a Simeon Woods Richardson fastball out to left for a solo homer. San Diego pulled within nine after five frames. Simeon Woods Richardson threw five solid innings and Cole Sands fanned two in the sixth. Caleb Thielbar put up a zero in the seventh and Ronny Henriquez got into some trouble in the eighth. Jake Cronenworth tripled to center and Bryce Johnson singled him home. Jackson Merrill smacked a Ronny Henriquez fastball out to right for a two-run blast. San Diego pulled within six after eight innings of play. The Twins added a run in the ninth and Steven Okert had a 1-2-3 ninth to secure the win for the Twins today.

-Final Thoughts- Simeon Woods Richardson had another solid start. He went five innings and allowed a run on three hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Cole Sands fanned two in the sixth, Caleb Thielbar had a scoreless seventh, and Ronny Henriquez gave up three in the eighth. Steven Okert had a perfect ninth. Trevor Larnach and Eddie Julien had four-hit days. Willi Castro, Jose Miranda, and Austin Martin had two hits each. The Twins hit 7-for-14 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base. The Twins will return home and have tomorrow off. Andre Pallante will face David Festa in the series opener when the Cardinals come to town.

The Minnesota Twins had a rough first night in San Diego in a losing effort. They looked to get back on track tonight at Petco Park. The Padres struck first in the second when Jackson Merrill lined a two-out double to center. David Peralta singled him home to start the scoring. The Twins would find some offense in the fourth when Carlos Santana led-off with a double and Ryan Jeffers smoked a Martin Perez cutter out to left for a two-run homer. The Twins quickly loaded up the bases in the fifth and Royce Lewis hit a sac fly to left. This extended the Twins lead to two midway through the game. Meanwhile, Bailey Ober sailed through six solid innings then hit a wall in the seventh. Jake Cronenworth led-off with a bloop double to left. Manny Machado followed and belted an Ober cutter out to center for a two-run homer to tie the game at three. The Twins quickly loaded up the bases in the eighth. Christian Vazquez plated a pair with a pinch-hit single to left and the Twins retook a two-run lead. The Padres answered in the bottom of the eighth as Donovan Solano and Luis Arraez singled. Jurickson Profar knocked a Steven Okert slider out to left for a three-run homer to put San Diego on top. Jake Cronenworth singled and Xander Bogaerts doubled him home. Robert Suarez had a 1-2-3 ninth and the Padres picked up another win tonight at home.

-Final Thoughts- Bailey Ober sailed through six innings then hit a wall in the seventh. He went six-plus innings and allowed three runs on four hits with five strikeouts. Griffin Jax threw up a zero in the seventh, Steven Okert gave up four runs in 1/3 of an inning, and Ronny Henriquez got out of the eighth. Carlos Santana, Ryan Jeffers, Max Kepler, and Austin Martin had two hits each. The Twins hit 4-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. Tomorrow, Simeon Woods Richardson faces Matt Waldron in the series finale.
