#Chocolate Orange Infused Bourbon

Palo Santo !

2 oz. Buffalo Trace Bourbon 

0.25 oz. palo santo-smoked cinnamon syrup*

0.125 oz. St. Elizabeth Allspice Liqueur

2-3 dashes chocolate bitters

Combine ingredients in a mixing glass with ice and stir for 10 to 25 seconds (shorter for small ice, longer for big ice). Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice and garnish with an orange peel.

*Recipe for the smoked syrup:

Get two or three cinnamon sticks, one cup of water, and one cup of white sugar, and combine in a pot. Smash the cinnamon sticks so they’re in a few pieces. Heat on medium, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Once it starts to simmer, cover and reduce the heat, and simmer for about 10 minutes. Then strain out the solids.

One important point that’s nearly always forgotten: You need to measure the amount you have left. You lost an unknown amount of water to evaporation, and it will change the concentration of the sweetness (reducing by 60 percent would yield a much sweeter 0.25 oz. of cinnamon syrup than reducing by 30 percent), so you have to add the lost water back. If you used one cup of water and one cup of sugar, you’ll want 1.5 cups of syrup (sugar reduces volume by half when it dissolves), so add back the water you lost to evaporation until you hit 1.5 cups.

Palo Santo Smoke: There are two ways to do this:

If you’re going to make a bunch of these, smoke the cinnamon syrup. Get yourself a cheap smoking gun and pipe smoke into a container that has the cinnamon syrup, then close the lid. Invert a few times to infuse for about seven to 10 seconds, then open the container and blow off the smoke. Ten seconds is all you need and is probably on the high side—if you’re doing less than 12 oz. at a time, start with five seconds and then taste. You can always add more, but you can’t take it away. Oversmoked syrup is literal trash. If you’re just making one or two, you can always smoke the glass. First, make the drink in a mixing glass. Then, put a piece of palo santo wood on a non-reactive surface (stainless steel, a cast iron pan, or just a larger piece of different wood) and burn it with a blowtorch until it starts to smoke. Invert your glass over the smoke and let it infuse there for eight to 10 seconds, then flip the glass right-side-up, allowing the smoke to escape. Then add ice and cocktail. The glass obviously won’t pick up much smoke, but it’ll pick up a little, and will give your cocktail a subtle smoke.

ghoul perfume associations!

i am very into ghost. and i am also very into indie perfumes! so i decided to combine the two and make a list of my scent associations for each of the ghouls, as well as a few indie fragrances that fit them (in my opinion! if y'all have other thoughts i would LOVE to hear them /gen)

i also included all of the perfumes i found that had the same names as the ghouls, even if i didn't think the scent profile worked, and bonus atmospherics that i think are more naturally ghoul-ish and worked well for the various elements!

Aeon

Notes: chocolate, linen, lavender. Aeon smells very gentle and pleasant, but not necessarily sweet. He smells like things that he himself finds comfort in.

Notes: dark fruits, musk. Cirrus smells sophisticated in a dark, sensual way. She smells.. hypnotic, almost. She smells like you want her, but she doesn't even know you exist.

Venus Black -- Possets 

“A grand and very very sensual scent. Black in the most sophisticated way. Considered one of the colors, its working name was Mars' Black but it is so wonderfully feminine that there is no way that it could be named after the god of war, it should be named after the goddess of love. The Blackest musk flirts with a float of black pepper, a shot of dark sweet pear, and the smallest amount of sage and non-stinky narcissus for tingle. One not to be missed. Dry, musky, spicy.”

Salomé -- Alkemia Perfumes

Notes: black tea, incense. Ifrit smells heavy and dark in a way that makes you want more. Very mysterious, even though his personality doesn't really match.

Roy Choi’s The Cheetos Flamin’ Hot Spot Menu

Born out of a collaboration with LA chef Roy Choi, the Cheetos Flamin’ Hot Spot was exactly as advertised- a pop-up restaurant with a menu featuring Flamin’ Hot Cheetos-based items. 

The food included:

the Flamin’ Hot Elotes, buttered corn covered in Flamin’ Hot Cheetos Puffs and White Cheddar Cheetos Puffs, 

Cheetos Sweet n’ Spicy Chili Meatballs, Xxtra Flamin’ Hot Cheetos-infused pork and beef meatballs covered with a powder of Xxtra Flamin’ Hot Cheetos and sitting atop a layer of sweet and spicy chili sauce,

Flamin’ Hot Chipotle Ranch Wings, sweet and spicy chili sauce-covered chicken wings covered in Flamin’ Hot Chipotle Ranch Cheetos dust,

Xxtra Flamin’ Hot Rice Bowl, marinated broccoli or grilled chicken mixed with rice, cilantro, chili sour cream sauce, sesame seeds, and Xxtra Flamin’ Hot Cheetos dust, 

Flamin’ Hot Fries, regular (or Flamin’ Hot) Cheetos drizzled with melted cheese, sesame seeds, cilantro, and chili sour cream sauce,

the Hot Cheetos Burrito, an avocado or short rib burrito with “cheese”, “more cheese”, chili sour cream sauce, and Flamin’ Hot Cheetos,

the Five-Alarm Cheetos Steak, a literally flaming Cheddar Jalapeno Cheetos-seasoned 8oz ribeye steak with a side of cheesy rice.

1/3 cup cacoa nibs

3 cups bourbon whiskey

Wash the orange peel well, next peel the orange try to get as little of the pith that’s the white stuff on the peel put peel in container.

Add the cacao beans and bourbon close and place in a cool dark place.

Aging, Straining, filtering, and Drinking Your Chocolate Orange Infused Bourbon

Agitate the jar every so to encourage extraction.

Shake well and store away from sunlight in a cool and dry place for 4 weeks.

Filter through cheesecloth.

It helps to moisten the cheesecloth first so the liquid permeates more smoothly.

Once you get to the point where you have strained everything out, you can gently wring the cheesecloth to extract all of the liquid and juice.

If you still need to strain your liqueur further due to lack of clarity, you can strain it 1 more time through a coffee strainer.

Combined the sugar and water in a saucepan and bring mixture to a boil and reduce heat to a simmer until sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat and set aside to cool.

Age- 18 (immortal)

Location- The Underworld

Personality- He's aloof, cold, distant, and apathetic. He doesn't concern himself with the daily drama of the pantheon, instead only focusing on looking out for himself, his immediate family, & his boss Zeus. He's currently single.

Being the god of the north wind (& essentially winter), he has many abilities. He can fly due to his large frost white wings and has the ability of aerokinesis. As offensive attacks, he can give a person frostbite and hypothermia (as well as creating weapons & armor out of ice). He has bountiful abilities with cryokinesis. He always emits an aura of coldness, making others around him feel slightly cold. He also has the ability of pyrokinesis (cold fire manipulation). He is also able to communicate with pegasi as well as shapeshift into one.

Notable physical features include his pale alabaster skin and his short silver white hair.

Bo's main abode is in the Underworld (he loves the cold weather). He lives in an opulent palace built entirely out of ice, crystal, and everlasting snow. Inside, there's always a cold wind blowing. Most of the furniture is also made out of ice & snow. In Olympius, he resides in Bolt Towers- an ultra exclusive & high rise apartment building in the Skyline neighborhood of New Olympus. In his apartment, the thermostat is set to below freezing.

He also has a cottage in the state of Thrace.

Bo also has a few arctic animals as pets. There's three polar bears named Avalanche (called Ava for short), Blanket, & Juneau, a snowy owl named Antler, and even a wolverine named Blizzard. He has thought about getting an ice dragon, but they're extremely rare & hard to come by.

In Olympius, he gets around in his sleek white sports car. In the Underworld, he travels by the use of his wings.

He's the oldest of his brothers & is aware of how he's painted- being the "bossy overbearing party pooper." Bo still cares for his brothers even though he has trouble showing & verbalizing it. He's not in contact with Notus (god of the south wind), but he does have a pretty good relationship with their cousin Chione (goddess of snow).

Bo adores his mother Eváeros (goddess of air & the zodiacs). She visits him often.

He's also friends with Despoina (goddess of the arcadian mysteries, frost, winter, & shadows) and Aeolus (god of wind).

Bo also doesn't mind his aunt, Pagoniá (goddess of ice).

His go-to drink is a snow cap (a drink made with bourbon, heavy cream, orange liqueur, powdered sugar, & nutmeg). He also likes hot white chocolate, lemon-lime soda, mint infused sparkling water, and martinis.

Bo's favorite colors are white, purple, silver, & dark blue!

His favorite dessert is baked alaska. He also likes his mom's ambrosia salad, served cold!

His main source of income comes from working for Zeus. He models for Platinum Alchemy as well as being a contributing writer for his men's magazine.

Bo doesn't have much of a rapport with the other members in the pantheon. He thinks that Apollo (god of the sun, music, poetry, healing, medicine, archery, plague, light, & knowledge) is an idiot and that Chrysos (god of gold & riches) is too full of himself, saying "You'd think he'd have gold shoved up his ass."

He doesn't mind Hestia (goddess of the hearth) or her dark chocolate peppermint cake.

Bo hasn't had much success in the romance department, but he does have feelings for O, a popular singer and oread (mountain nymph). He remembers the first time he saw her in person- when she was performing at the palace for a private party of Zeus'. Her beautifully haunting voice stirred up something in his heart and he was a puddle of tears during her piano solo. Even Zeus took notice of it. After the party he had sent her a friend request on Fatestagram & a few weeks later, Bo received a notification saying that she'd accepted it. Aside from liking a few posts here and there, they have not actually communicated.

He looks forward to the dinner Chione hosts to celebrate the Winter Solstice.

In the meantime, O became the muse and inspiration of his poetry & love letters- that he keeps locked away. It was just a few weeks ago when he mustered up the courage to anonymously send her a gift- a gorgeous pair of garnet earrings.

His favorite meal is the vichyssoise and snow crab legs (with extra garlic & butter). He also likes the garlic risotto. His favorite takeout order is the pizza bianca.

In his free time, Bo loves reading, listening to music, and working on his poetry & ice sculptures. He also enjoys active activities like snowboarding, skiing, hockey, and figure skating.
