Taishan Huakee Restaurant, 4737 Geary Blvd, San Francisco (Outer Richmond), CA 94118
If you like claypot rice, this place does it very well and has lots of options. You can get Taishan (southern China) style claypot rice served in a hot clay pot or steamed rice flavored by lotus leaves with frog, lamb, Chinese sausage, salted fish, dried scallops, chicken, and more. They also have other Taishan dishes.
The claypot rice takes awhile because they do take the time to develop the crispy rice crust. We were served a complimentary light, sweet soup. It was bland but complimentary. They also provided a pot of hot tea.
Taishan yellow eel clay pot rice ($16.95): This one was the best because the rice had the most seasoning. The pieces of eel were tiny but present throughout.
Chicken & dried mushroom clay pot rice ($12.95): This one was good but had the least flavor. The boneless, skinless, chopped chicken was tender. It had plenty of rice, chicken, shiitake mushrooms, and carrots, and a sprinkle of chopped scallions. The crispy rice crust was present.
Frog clay pot rice ($16.95): The pieces of frog were small but tender and flavorful. They also included some Chinese sausage and a sprinkle of scallions. The crispy rice crust was present.
The claypot rice is pretty big. Even though they recommend one pot per person, two people who aren’t hungry could share one or if you’re ordering other dishes, it’s a lot of rice.
In terms of décor, it looks like many mom and pop Chinese restaurants in that area. It’s not totally devoid of decoration and it’s large enough to accommodate larger parties and banquets. The service was friendly but not attentive.

Do you have any favorite games or anything? Im trying ti find games with good character designs
I don't actually play games for their character designs, but I do have games that I like! And some of them have pretty good designs. I'll put em under the cut
Everhood is pretty whack, it's kinda like if you took Undertale and combined it with psychedelic mushroons. Green Mage is my favorite character from Everhood. He just has the fun vibes.
One of my favorites of all time is Death's Door. It's a somewhat short-ish game (I 100%ed my very first playthrough in only 20 hours). It's got a very charming style. My favorite character is Jefferson, he's a squid puppeteering a dead fisherman and pretending to be human.
And I might get hated for this, judging by the comments from others, but I play Honkai: Star Rail fairly regularly (not too good at playing everyday lol). I don't like all of the character designs, and I do agree that sometimes Hoyo can overdesign their characters, but I don't think they're terrible. Either way, I like the turn-based gameplay, and my favorite character is Sampo!
Also, another game that I play off and on is another Chinese game called Tale of Food. Gameplay wise it's not my favorite, and character wise I think that some of the designs lean more towards stereotypical donghua and anime designs, but there are genuinely some really clever or good designs in the game. My favorite characters are Claypot Rice and Crab in Orange.
Ok, I'm gonna limit myself to five. But I really love Night in the Woods. The story and the art are really nice, although it's slightly more adult than these other reccomendations. But it's a fun time, and I love Gregg. He's just a silly little guy!
Idk if that helps. But I don't usually play games solely for the character design 😭 and even games I think have awesome character designs, I've dropped because I didn't like the gameplay (like Dislyte).
I always enjoy a good character design, but in cases like this, I usually go for substance over style.

Do you think Grima Fire Emblem would be good eatin'? And how would one even prepare that?
hmm see im conflicted about this. 3 scenarios in my head
grima's dragon form might just be hot air and can poof in and out of material plane so long as robin is present as a medium. therefore, eating grima is not possible umu
2. eating grima is possible but they are a creature thats associated with the earth and so might have a strong earthly taste in which case HHHHBR ok theres ways to prep this but still. not my to-go type of flavor... will probably wanna toss bits of grima in a claypot with lotus roots and LOOOOOOTS of herbs and ginger get something like this
claypot herbal chicken grima. more bc grima seems like something that belongs on the chinese meal dining table in my head. probly the association with fengshui and eastern asian stuff up in my noggin:
less bc those stuff are super effective at evening oit the earthy flavors. I think.
3. IF grima isnt earthy:
grima might anatomically resemble a kind of reptilian snake creature but a billion times bigger and with some mix of human flesh on it, so taste wise it might be... really meaty? i think yeah perfectly edible. id want to try cooking them in alcohol to see how it'd taste, its probably gonna be amazing with the addition of a sharp fucking kick to the funky meat base. and also, FIRM meat :o
the method for that is gonna be
diced meat in pot, add wine alcohol, blast it with spices and sauce, cook off the alcohol, then wine alcohol it again, cook a bit more....
and serve. with rice! :3

Was supposed to order the chicken version but we already have many chicken dishes, so I ended up with the Red Rice Vinesse Pork Belly (红糟三层肉). While I like the rice wine flavoured gravy, pork is not tender enough for me. Seems like the meat is cooked separately and later combined with the gravy.
Another pick from sister-in-law, the Deep-Fried Prawns with Salt & Pepper (椒盐虾). The garlicy salt and pepper profile is nice but the prawns are a little small so after frying, there wasn’t much meat to eat and some family members don’t want to get their hands dirty peeling the shells.
The most expensive dish of the night is this Deep-Fried Squirrel Fish with Fruit Sauce (水果松鼠鱼). A whole fish beautifully sliced and deep-fried then drizzled with sweet and tangy sauce made from fruits. You also get canned lychees and freshly diced pineapples for the fruits portion.
Sis likes this Bean Curd Kailan (豆皮芥兰) which is fried bean curd skin with Chinese broccoli or Chinese kale. Ordered this Prawn Paste Chicken (虾酱鸡) for the kiddos. Appearance wise, the mid-wings are unevenly browned but it made up with surprisingly umami flavours and juiciness. Well, looks can be deceiving.
No, this is not braised pork belly but Fragrant Egg Plant (鱼香茄子煲). This claypot brinjal or aubergine is beautiful cooked if a tad salty but perfect with the white rice. There is also a twelve dish, the Salted Fish Fried Rice (咸鱼炒饭) for one of the kid but I did not take photo of.
Here is the Bill for the meal including the rice and refreshments. We ordered ala carte so we picked the dishes we like and it ended up cheaper compared to the expensive set menu the restaurants offered for the actual day (Chinese New Year Eve).

I can imagine that if I ever went out with zhongli, it would be a really interesting experience.
While I don't mind meat or vegetarian dishes, I love sea food. I don't like fish unless it's either raw or smoked.
So if there are prawns on the menu, I will get those. Or smoked salmon or tuna.
Ye, zhongli would have a bad time with me lmaoo
seafood isn't my usual go to either! except when it comes to salmon. salmon good. salmon tasty. salmon healthy. all hail salmon.
i feel like other than his signature dishes he would like those cn old men dishes. congee. traditional chinese desserts. maybe claypot chicken rice. hdkdjsld realistically i think our taste in food doesn't work that well either hahahah

Oriental Palace Seafood Restaurant Offers Delightful Contemporary Chinese Cuisine
There's one restaurant in Quezon City that continues to serve its delightful contemporary Chinese cuisine to its loyal clientele throughout the years. Oriental Palace traces its roots all the way back to 1978 when a young cook from Hong Kong named Henry Chua started a small noodle and dimsum shop in Escolta. The legacy continues with his son Chris as Oriental Palace remains one of the most popular Chinese restaurants in the city.
Oriental Palace is located at 148 Tomas Morato at the corner of Scout de Guia Street. It is one of the biggest Chinese restaurants in Quezon City and is a popular venue for birthday celebrations and special occasions among the Filipino-Chinese community. The Hungry Kat was invited back to Oriental Palace a few weeks ago to try some of their newer dishes and to revisit this well-loved dining spot.
The huge restaurant can accommodate big events and is always busy any day of the week. It is divided into several areas which includes the main dining hall and private function rooms that can hold up to 100 guests.
I went here with a couple of my friends including Bettina Chung and my lovely goddaughter Hope. Oriental Palace is a place where families and friends get together to enjoy exquisite Chinese dishes with a friendly and casual dining ambiance.
We started by ordering some items from their dimsum menu including the Beancurd Roll, Pork and Shrimp Wonton, Hakaw, Pan Fried Radish Cake, and more. They also offer Frozen Dimsum items which you can bring home and easily reheat.
The main highlight of our lauriat set was presented to us still alive and kicking. This gorgeous Tiger Lobster was served two ways.
The first was a Lobster Sashimi served on a bed of ice. I was surprised that Oriental Palace actually offers this Japanese fusion dish on its menu, but I was not complaining. The delicate lobster meat was served with wasabi and soy sauce to complete the experience.
Next we had the Double Boiled Fish Maw Soup served very hot. My seat mate, Pepper Teehankee, gave us a little trivia and mentioned that fish maw isn't made of fish lips which is what most people think. It is actually made from fish intestines?? Regardless, I still enjoyed my hearty bowl of fish maw soup.
The Steamed Suahe is always a favorite dish during parties and gatherings. These plump and juicy shrimp were so easy to peel and so delicious because they were really fresh.
The Roast Duck and Cold Cuts Platter offers a great combination of succulent roast duck, soy chicken, pork asado, crispy roast pork, century egg, and jelly fish. These Chinese appetizers are always a good way to start any celebration.
Now this was one of the most surprising dishes that was served that night. The Lychee-Style Handmade Fried Prawn Balls did not even look like food but more like a work of art. It was presented as a tree sculpture with the prawn balls hanging on the branches like fruits.
We eached "picked" our prawn balls off the tree and it really looked more like lychees instead of prawn balls. It was only when I took a bite that I could really see the effort they made into making these balls very presentable and Instagrammable. That's why this is their most popular dish and highly recommended.
Another dish that I liked was the Hong Kong-Style Lap Mie Claypot Rice with preserved meat. My husband loves eating claypot rice in Hong Kong so he also enjoyed scraping off the burnt rice at the bottom of the huge bowl.
This beautifully plated dish is called the CNY Red Lantern. It is actually made with eggplant but presented as this decorative dish that is a must-order during the Chinese new year.
The Fried Oyster in XO Sauce is a crunchier way to cook and prepare oysters. The XO sauce goes well with giving the oysters their rich flavors.
One classic dish at Oriental Palace is the Oriental Signature Tofu. This healthy alternative can always be enjoyed by the entire table.
A Chinese lauriat won't be complete with the Steamed Live Lapu-Lapu with spring onions and French beans. The fresh lapu lapu is cooked in a light soy sauce and is always a popular dish at family gatherings.
The Beef Tenderloin in Oriental Sesame Dressing with Udon Noodles in an Asian fusion of flavors and ingredients. I was quite surprised that Oriental Palace uses Japanese ingredients and cooking techniques in the menu, so expect to see a lot of modern presentations on the table.
Here comes the second way for the tiger lobster, the Lobster Congee. This very flavorful bowl comes with all the other meaty parts of the lobster from the legs to the head. I really loved this exquisite congee because you really can't go wrong with lobster.
We requested for another popular dish at Chinese restaurants, the Sweet and Sour Pork. You can judge how good a Chinese restaurant is by the quality of their sweet and sour pork, and this one passes all the tests with flying colors.
For dessert, we had the Buchi and the Hot Almond Dumpling to end our very colorful and satisfying dinner. We were all so full from the over 15 main courses and the selection of dim sum favorites presented.
We would like to thank our dear friend Spanky Enriquez for inviting us and hosting this grand dinner lauriat for Oriental Palace Seafood Restaurant. Spanky is currently having some health problems and we are all praying for his full and speedy recovery. We are all waiting to dine with you again soon.

QQ Roasted Duck Specialist
Went to Miri on one of our usual family trips and all the eateries we went to were familiar ones, until finally at dinner time, we're going to some place new, which they rave have the best duck in the house: QQ Roasted Duck Specialist (at least that's what they call it)
Location: Just across the street from Gloria Hotel downtown just after a right junction from Parkson (I think)
Setting: Typical Chinese kopitiam style kind of setting
Atmosphere: 6.5/10 (pretty good, though it's pretty much past dinner time prolly, so not much patronage)
Design: 6.5/10 (also pretty old-school design for a typical Chinese kopitiam)
Below are some of the food we have ordered:
Bah kuh teh soup
Claypot rice
Bitter gourd with egg
Roasted duck and char sau sau rou
Other misc dishes that I kinda forgot what they were called
The food tastes pretty good actually. Nice and filling and all-round flavourful. To be honest, I wouldn't say this is the best duck I've ever eaten, but they did a pretty good job nonetheless. So I would recommend this place to have your meals

Nature Pagoda, 312 W Valley Blvd, San Gabriel, CA 91778
Nature Pagoda looks non-descript but it cooks with some unusual ingredients. It’s a Cantonese restaurant with healing, good-for-you dishes, including appetizers, soups (labeled soups for health on the menu – these are made with Chinese medicinal herbs), porridge/congee, veggies, claypot rice, and desserts. Some of the dishes are made with bird’s nest, ox pizzle, hog’s stomach, hog’s tail, frog, and turtle.
They’re known for claypot rice. The claypot rice takes time so call ahead or be ready to wait at least 20 minutes. They have 21 kinds of claypot rice, from plain ($7.99) to frog, ribs, chicken, curry beef, fish, etc.
Pumpkin with preserved meat ($15.50): One pot can serve two people who aren’t that hungry or are also ordering other dishes. The sauce was served on the side. The sauce has soy sauce and seasonings. It’s pretty simple but fantastic when added to the claypot rice. The rice is infused with the flavors of the preserved meat. The cubes of pumpkin added sweetness and creaminess. They were generous with the meat (mostly thinly sliced Chinese sausage). The Chinese sausage is savory and sweet. There was a proper golden, crunchy rice crust. Two minor disappointments: first, they used regular broccoli vs. Chinese broccoli or bok choy, second, the preserved meat was 95% Chinese sausage, it would have been nice to have a wider variety of preserved meat. But, it was super delicious and flavorful with lots of different textures. Best claypot rice I’ve had in the area.
Nature Pagoda is on a busy street. It’s off by itself and has its own parking lot. The building looks older. The interior was clean and pleasant but no frills. Condiments are kept at each table. It might be cash only but I’m not sure (there weren’t any signs saying cash only or credit cards accepted).

[ID: 4-panel digital comic about making claypot rice, drawn in a digital painting style with hand lettering. 1: “Recently, I got these super delicious Sichuan sausages. So I decided to make clay pot rice.” Three dark brown sausages on a sheet of paper, then the artist slicing one up with a Chinese cleaver. A clay pot and other ingredients sit around the cutting board. 2: “According to the recipe, I should boil the rice first.” The clay pot, which is grey-brown with dark brown glaze around the lid’s handle, with steam escaping from the lid. “Then add in egg, veggies and sliced sausage.” The lid is now open to show a bed of rice, into which fall the sausage slices, greens, bits of scallion, and a raw egg cracked in.” 3: “Everything went smoothly, until I moved the claypot away from the stove.” The artist lifts the claypot carefully off a kitchen stove with two oven mitts. “THE POT CRACKED (Yes, I got this claypot from T&T 2 years ago. It was only $8.)” The pot, now with a dark crack down the side of the bottom portion. Big jagged yellow lines surround it. 4: “THANK YOU FOR SACRIFICING YOURSELF FOR A DELICIOUS MEAL.” The cracked claypot with its lid open, showing the cooked claypot rice with a perfectly cooked egg, surrounded by greens and sausage. Ways to Cook and Serve Sausages in Singaporean Style
Singaporean cuisine is famous for its distinct taste, aroma and beautiful texture. Although sausages in Singaporean cuisine are mostly a flavouring agent in noodles, stir-fried and fried rice, they can also be the star of the dish, if you know how to cook. Need a helping hand in cookingChinese sausage in Singapore? Here’s some information for you!
Choosing the Right Sausage
Singapore is also known as the hub of different sausages. You can find a plethora of sausages in Singapore, including Chinese sausage, pork sausage, and chicken sausage. Chinese sausage, otherwise famous as “lap cheong,” is a popular ingredient in Singaporean cuisine. It has a distinct sweetness and savoury feel. When choosing sausage, look for high-quality sausages with minimal additives and preservatives.
Preparing the Sausage
Prepare the sausage properly before cooking. Remove the casing and slice the sausage thinly if you are working with Chinese sausage. However, for other sausages, you can remove the casing and chop it into bite-sized pieces. For those who love a crispier texture, pan-frying the sausage before cooking is an excellent idea!
Cooking Sausage in Singaporean Style
There are many ways to cook and serve sausage in the Singaporean style. One popular dish is fried rice with Chinese sausage, also known as “lap cheong fried rice.” To make this dish, cook the rice in a rice cooker and set it aside. In a pan, sauté diced onions and garlic until fragrant. Add sliced Chinese sausage and cook until it is slightly browned. Add the cooked rice to the pan and mix well. Season with soy sauce and white pepper to taste, and serve hot. There are other recipes as well that you can try. Some of them are listed as follows:
Nasi Lemak - Nasi Lemak is a Malaysian and Singaporean dish consisting of coconut rice, sambal, fried anchovies, peanuts, cucumber, and a hard-boiled egg. Sausages are often added to this dish as a protein option.
Hokkien Mee - Hokkien Me originated in the Fujian province in China. It is a stir-fried noodle dish, including prawns, squid, pork belly, and sliced sausages. The dish is flavoured with dark soy sauce and oyster sauce.
Fried Carrot Cake - Fried Carrot Cake is a popular hawker food in Singapore cooked with stir-fried radish cake, egg, and various ingredients. Some vendors add sliced sausages to this dish to add flavour and protein.
Curry Puff - Curry puffs are a popular snack in Singapore. They are deep-fried pastry pockets filled with spicy potato and chicken curry. Some curry puff variations include sliced sausages as an additional ingredient.
Sausage Bun - Sausage buns are a common snack in Singapore that consists of a bread roll filled with sliced sausage, ketchup, and chilli sauce.
Claypot Rice - Claypot Rice is a popular one-pot meal in Singapore cooked in a clay pot over a charcoal fire. It consists of rice, chicken, Chinese sausage, mushrooms, and vegetables cooked together until the rice is crispy at the bottom and fluffy on top. The sausage adds a savoury and smoky flavour to the dish, and it pairs well with the other ingredients.
Takeaway!
You can also cook other dishes with Chinese sausage in Singapore like stir-fried noodles. Just pick the right sausages, and you can create a wide array of dishes perfect for any occasion!

Jasmine at New World Makati Launches New A La Carte Dishes and Cocktails
Jasmine at New World Makati Hotel highlights its latest culinary additions comprising an array of enticing appetizers, dim sum, entrees, and desserts to further delight patrons of its beloved signature dishes. I have always been a frequent guest of their Unlimited Yum Cha promotion so this time, I'm happy to explore more of their exquisite a la carte menu.
Jasmine Restaurant can be found on the second floor, just above the hotel’s elegant lobby. It features authentic Cantonese dishes in an exquisite five-star setting that elegantly fits the exceptional quality of its offerings. It has consistently been awarded by Philippine Tatler as one of the Top 20 Restaurants in the country and is one of the most sought after dining destinations in the city.
Our media group was hosted in one of Jasmine's private dining rooms which serves as a great venue for intimate gatherings and special occasions.
We were all quite surprised with the 20-course menu that was prepared to showcase all the new exciting items on the menu at Jasmine. This is going to be a very fun lunch!
But first, for those who fancy sipping on tipple while indulging in the savory flavors of Jasmine’s specialties, four new refreshing Chinese Cocktails have been created to pair with these savory dishes. I tried the Ying Yang with its Martin Miller’s gin, elderflower cordial, chili, egg white, lemon juice and rose buds tea syrup. Other interesting Chinese cocktails include Jasmine Bloom, Lapsang Cooler, and Xiāng Máo Drop.
We started with the Truffle Duck Dumpling with its aromatic truffle scent and delicious duck meat. This is a very fancy dumpling that you won't find on the unlimited dimsum set but you can order it from the a la carte menu.
I really loved the Fried Soft-Shell Crab cooked with salt, pepper, and cilantro. This crunchy soft shell crab is a good appetizer but it can also be a main course if you wish.
Another seafood favorite is the Deep-Fried Stuffed Crab Claw which is usually seen in Chinese lauriats. There's also another Soft Shell Crab but this one is served with mango salsa and sweet chili in a bao bun.
Shrimp balls are always delicious, but Jasmine upgrades this familiar dish into the Crispy Shrimp Ball with Cheese. Imagine biting into these crunchy shrimp balls filled with gooey cheese inside. This is a highly recommended item.
Take note that the Fried Prawn "Peking Style" comes with a very spicy kick. These bite-sized prawns look adorable but they pack quite a solid punch.
I am loving everything so far, especially the Scallop with Broccoli and XO Sauce. This comes with plump and juicy pieces of scallops tucked in fresh broccoli and mushrooms.
One of the more unique and surprising dishes we had was the Wok-Fried Beef Tenderloin in black pepper and taro cream in clay pot. The savory black pepper beef balances with the earthy flavors of the taro. I didn't know that taro and beef could go so well, but this one definitely proves it.
On the other hand, the Sichuan Style Poached Beef Tenderloin is a fiery version served with Chinese cabbage and bok choy.
Here's a dish that is worth getting your hands dirty. The Deep-Fried Spareribs with “Chang Kong” Vinegar Sauce is a great main course that would go well with fried rice. It's a bit difficult to eat with chopsticks or utensils, so go ahead and use your bare hands.
Jasmine also presented two outstanding chicken dishes. First is the Sliced Chicken in Black Pepper Sauce, while the second is the Taiwanese-Style chicken in Claypot. Both items offer a light and healthier main course.
Vegetable lovers will enjoy the Crispy Stuffed Eggplant in Sweet Spicy Sauce which is a different way of cooking eggplant. This would be a good way of getting the kids to eat vegetables.
The Deep-Fried Crispy Golden Shiitake and Enoki Mushrooms, on the other hand, are also a delightful treat. It's quite similar to eating Pik-Nik and these can be a healthier way to snack.
Chinese lauriats usually serve the rice and noodles towards the end of the meal, so our lunch at Jasmine was no different. The Seafood Rice Pop in Claypot gives a modern presentation to the usual fried rice. Sprinkle some rice pops over the pot and mix them all together with the shrimp and scallops to complete the dish.
If you want a more classic fried rice dish, try the Seafood Fried Rice with Conpoy, Egg White and Pine Nuts. This comes with all the comforting ingredients highlighted by the pine nuts.
We also got to try the new E-Fu Noodle with ‘Ma Po’ Tofu and Seafood. This noodle dish is packed with premium seafood items so it is really a great way to finish your main courses.
We were all so full from sampling all these delicious new items at Jasmine, but we still had room for desserts! The latest additions are the Mango Pudding with coconut cream as well as the heavenly Chinese Egg Tart.
