"I do not think, Mr. Chillingworth," said Marchdale, "anything would convince you but a visit from him, and an actual attempt to fasten upon some of your own veins." "That would not convince me," said Chillingworth. "Then you will not be convinced?" "I certainly will not. I mean to hold out to the last. I said at the first, and I say so still, that I never will give way to this most outrageous superstition."
[chanting] Bite him first bite him first. Make a show and he gets bitten so so much. I am never heckling Seward's skepticism again. Or anyone's.
He needs to get bitten sooooo bad it makes him look stupid.
Obligatory topical shitpost redraw
...Hey wait, Seward what are you doing. Seward. Jack.

Reading the Scarlet Letter in my English class and I figured it’s just spooky enough to kick off October!
*lmao I hope my English teacher actually likes this one because last time he said my art was too spooky to hang up in the class room-*
He literally made this an assignment just so his classroom would have decorations

Yeeeah it is way scarier if the vampire can eat anyone. Can you imagine Dracula but when Jonathan cuts himself Dracula goes ":/ not a girl" or the first mate goes "good thing vampirism is no threat to me or I'd need to jump" or Dracula trying to eat Mina and going "curses, foiled by matrimony". Then the threat is that no one is safe from the vampire, not just Girl Virginity.
Yes, exactly. When the human heroes go on a dumbass expedition to the crypt in the middle of the night I need to be at least a little bit worried that the vampire might Fucking Get Them or what's the point??
Also, vampires only being a threat to Girl Virginity is creepy in a bad way and the subtext implied by it is definitely not something I'm keen to preserve from the original text.
#not art#ask#varney the vampire#varney posting#also reading 237 chapters of a book where everyone is a dumbass and NONE OF THEM EVER GET BITTEN is SO infuriating#chillingworth needs to get bitten. marchdale needs to get bitten.#charles 'yeah i'll meet the vampire for a midnight duel! what could go wrong?' holland needs to get bitten#jose from naples? the joshes three? solomon slop? The Honorable Dick Lake and his son? helen williams' mother? that one real estate agent?#yeah you guessed it#im tearing my hair out over here#mr. bevan would offer his blood to the vampire if he wasn't a coward#etc etc etc

Palm City's Real Founding Father, "Alligator Smith"
One of the earliest photographs of “Palm City,” along the St. Lucie River. Florida Photographic Concern, c. 1912-1913. Thurlow Collection. In my previous blog post announcing my mother’s and my upcoming book, A Pictorial History of Palm City, I told the story of Palm City’s very interesting early homesteader, Alligator Smith. Today I will share another tidbit – how Palm City’s creation is…
