Tumblr media
Physique: Husky Build Height: 6′3″ (1.91 m)
Andrew Walter Reid (born March 19, 1958-) is an American football coach who is the head coach for the Kansas City Chiefs of the NFL. Reid was previously head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles from 1999 to 2012. From 2001 to 2012, he was also the Eagles' executive vice president of football operations. He is the only NFL coach to win 100 games and appear in four consecutive conference championships with two different franchises.

Since being hired as the head coach of the Chiefs in 2013, Reid helped revitalize the struggling franchise into one of the league's best with 10 postseason appearances, eight consecutive division titles, six consecutive AFC Championship Games, four Super Bowl appearances, and three Super Bowl titles.

He kinda reminds of a younger, bigger Wilford Brimley or an older Tim Hooper. Mmm… the things I would do to this man. I won’t go into any details other than they involve my dick. Or my ass. I'm flexible.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reid is married with five children, three sons and two daughters. So my "loves to fuck" theory applies. Heavy, older and with a stach you could lose family members in, he certainly ranks as a Daddybear to behold. Reid has appeared in commercials for State Farm with Patrick Mahomes and for Snickers. But I'd prefer him doing underwear commercials where he's drawing a mustache on my face… with his penis.

The air was tense with anticipation and dread as Eleven confidently declared she could close the gate to the other dimension. Amid the group's cautious optimism, Mike's realization struck like a bolt of lightning — closing the gate would mean killing Will, who was still connected to the shadowy tendrils of the Mind Flayer. The weight of this decision cast a pall over the room as Joyce and Jonathan resolved to take drastic measures to save their son by burning the virus out of him, with Nancy accompanying them to provide whatever support she could.
Meanwhile, Indie, Steve, and the remaining kids faced their responsibilities head-on. As Eleven and Hopper ventured toward the lab to seal the gate, Steve, Dustin, and Indie dealt with the aftermath of their skirmish with a demodog. With a mixture of adrenaline and grim determination, Steve and Dustin heaved the lifeless creature into the fridge. Indie, despite the gravity of the situation, couldn’t help but let out a nervous chuckle at their makeshift morgue, slamming the fridge door shut on the alien creature.
Their laughter was short-lived as they discussed the best way to aid Eleven’s mission. The plan to draw the other demodogs away from the lab was quickly formed but just as swiftly shot down by Steve, who was all too aware of the dangers they faced with insufficient manpower.
“Always the fucking babysitter” Steve grumbles
Indie gives him a small smile and they walk into the living room listening in as Mike and Lucas fight. She steps over to Mike and places a hand on his shoulder stopping his pacing.
“Mike just stop it!”
“You didn’t see it! You weren’t there! That lab is swarming with hundreds of those dogs”
“Mike, Hopper isn’t gonna let anything happen to her” Indie promises
“Listen dude, coach calls a play in a game and the bottom line is you execute it” Steve says crossing his arms.
“Okay first of all this isn’t some stupid sports game, and second we’re not even in the game, we’re on the bench!” Mike responds
“Right- uh” steve stutters “so my point is… there’s nothing we can do” he deadpans
“Not helping Steven” Indie snaps
“Steven?” dustin giggles
“Shut up” steve says pushing his head
“Maybe there is something we can do” dustin says “the demo-dogs they have a hive mind. They only left the junkyard when they were called back to the lab”
“So if we get their attention maybe we can call them from the lab?” Lucas states
“And we can clear a path to the gate” Max finishes
“And then we all die!” Steve yells
“That’s one perspective” Indie grumbles
“Indie you can’t be serious! Tell me you don’t agree with them!”
“I don’t know steve, maybe they have a point” she shrugs
Mike runs into the kitchen and calls out to them “guys come in here!” he says “this is where the chief dug the hole, so that’s our way into the tunnel”
Mike runs into the living room and points at the drawings on the ground “here right here! This is like a hub! You’ve got all the tunnels feeing into it, so maybe if we set this on fire-”
“Oh yeah, thats a no” steve deadpans
“Steve” Indie warns “the mind flayer would call away his army”
“They’d all come to stop us!” Lucas says
“Then we circle back to the exit!” Mike adds
“Guys” Steve says
“By the time they realize that we’re gone-” Mike continues
“El would be at the gate!” Max finishes
“Hey hey hey! This is not happening!” Steve yells, putting his hands on his hips
“But-”
“No no no no no! I promised to keep you shitheads safe and thats exactly what I’m gonna do. We’re staying here on the bench and waiting for the starting teams to do their jobs, does everybody understand me?” Steve snaps pointing his finger at them all.
“Enough with the sports references, nobody here gets it” Indie snaps
“This isn’t a game!”
“I said, does everybody understand that? I need a yes” Steve instructs, looking at them expectantly
All of their attention shifts as the sound of a loud motor getting closer echos through the house. They all move to the windows and watch as a familiar blue car parks.
“Thats my brother!” Max panics
Steve and Indie share a look before rushing to look out the window, seeing Billy Hargrove pull up.
“Why is Billy here max?” Indie asks
“I don’t know, but if he finds me here he’ll literally kill us”
“Okay everyone calm down, I’ll go talk to him and try to get him to leave” Indie says walking towards the door. Steve grips her arm and shakes his head.
“Let me try to talk to him”
“No way in hell” he grumbles before opening the door.
Steve stepped outside to confront him, her heart sinking as she saw the familiar smirk on his face.
Indie moves over and grabs the kid’s back, yanking them down so Billy can’t see them. She moves back over to the door and watches the scene take place.
“Am I dreaming, or is that you, Harrington?” Billy taunted, eyeing Steve with disdainful amusement.
“Yeah, it’s me. Don’t cream your pants,” Steve replied, his tone deadpan but his stance defensive, positioning himself between Indie and Billy.
“What are you doing here, Amigo?” Billy asks, taking his jacket off
“I could ask you the same thing, Amigo”
“Looking for my step-sister, a little birdie told me she was here”
“I don’t know her”
“Tiny, redhead, bit of a bitch”
“Doesn’t ring a bell”
“You know this whole situation is giving me the heebie-jeebies,” Billy says
“Whys that?” Steve asks
“My thirteen-year-old sister goes missing all day, and I find her with you at a stranger’s house, and you lie to me about it”
“Man were you dropped too much as a child or what? What are you not understanding about what I just said?”
“Then who is that?” Billy asks pointing at the window
Indie whips around and watches the kids drop to the couch.
“Do you think he saw us?” Dustin asks
“Goddammit, I told you to stay down!” she snaps “everybody get in the kitchen now”
The situation escalated quickly as Billy shoved Steve with unexpected force, sending him sprawling to the ground before landing a vicious kick to his gut. He rushes up the steps and rips the door open, slamming it behind him. Indie stands in front of the kids and holds her hands up.
“Billy-”
“What a surprise, Indie Holland what are you doing here?”
“Billy just calm down, everything’s okay we’re just babysitting -”
“Shut the hell up!” he snaps
“Max you’ve disobeyed me, and you know what happens when you disobey me, I break things”
Billy surges forward and pushes Indie to the side, she yelps as her side its the sharp edge of the table and watches as he grabbed Lucas, Indie’s protective instincts surged. She managed to shove Billy off the young boy and onto the ground.
“You are so dead!” Billy yells
“No you are” Steve snaps
Steve landed a solid punch to Billy’s face, knocking him back. Billy only laughed, unnervingly unfazed. Indie grabs Lucas and pushes him and the rest of the kids behind her, backing them up.
“Looks like you got some fire in you after all huh? I’ve been waiting to see this king steve everyone’s been telling me so much about!” Billy smirks
“Get out” Steve warns, pushing Billy’s chest.
Billy swings at him, and Steve is narrowly able to dodge it and slams his fist into his face, knocking him against the table. Indie holds her hand to her mouth and runs over to them.
“Billy please just leave!” she begs
“Get out of my way bitch” he says pushing her back.
Steve grits his teeth and punches Billy several more times, pushing him to the kitchen sink. Mike and Lucas help Indie up and she curses.
“Steve!” she yells
Billy slams a plate onto Steve’s head, shattering it instantly. Indie gasps as he holds his head, Billy wastes no time and continues to punch him harshly. He grips Steve’s jacket and slams his head into him, sending him flying to the ground.
“Billy stop!” Indie snaps
She slams her fist into Billy’s cheek, watching as he looks at her with a smirk.
“You’re gonna have to try harder than that sweetheart” he sneers
Billy grips her arms and shoves her into the table. She hits her head on the corner painfully and groans as pain pulses through her. Her vision blurs as blood drips down her face. She could feel multple sets of hands grabbing her, and she could hear their voices echoing, but nothing made sense. She closes her eyes, her head spinning. After a few moments she opens her eyes and holds her hand to her head, sitting up slowly. Her vision focuses and she sees the kids surroding her and screaming for her to get up. She looks past them and watches as Billy, fueled by rage, beat Steve mercilessly.
Indie tries to stand up, but falls back down her head was still spinning as blood continued to trickle down her face.
“Steve” she weakly calls out as he stops moving
In the blink of an eye Max intervened, plunging a needle filled with tranquilizer into him, finally subduing him. Indie crawls over to him and holds his face in her hands. He was bruised and bleeding, badly, knocked out cold.
“Is he okay?” Dustin asks
“He’s out cold” she responds
Max holds up the keys to Billy’s car and Indie looks down at Steve. She knew that they had to do something, sitting here waiting for Billy to wake up. And when Steve woke up, he’d probably kill her, but she couldn’t let Eleven and Hopper die.
“Help me get him to the car,” she urged the kids, panic threading through her voice. They managed to load Steve into the back of the car.
and Indie drove them towards the hole Hopper had dug, planning to set the tunnels ablaze to distract or destroy whatever parts of the hive mind were left.
Steve regained consciousness en route, disoriented and in pain. “What’s—what happened?” he stammered, confusion and agony lacing his words.
“It’s okay, just stay calm,” Indie reassured him from the driver’s seat, her voice steady despite the fear gnawing at her heart.
“No no no what’s going on?” he asks as he begins to panic
Upon arriving, Steve, still groggy, stumbled as he climbed out of the car. Indie steadied him, her hands firm on his chest. “We have to do this, Steve. We have to help,” she insisted, her eyes locked onto his, conveying the urgency of their mission.
Together, they led the group down into the tunnels, Steve in the front and Indie guarding the rear. The oppressive darkness of the tunnels enveloped them as they drenched the area in gasoline. With a flick of his lighter, Steve set the ground ablaze, and they ran through the inferno they had created, dodging the grasping tentacles of the Mind Flayer.
Dart, the demodog Dustin had once befriended, appeared, blocking their path. Dustin, unable to leave his former pet behind, stepped closer to the creature, feeding it a candy bar as a distraction. Indie pulled at him, urging him to move, but paused as Dart allowed them to pass.
They sprinted through the tunnels, an earthquake shaking the ground beneath them as they reached the rope ladder. Indie and Steve helped the kids climb out first, their hands briefly clasping in a silent pact of mutual protection as the demodogs rushed by them, returning to the lab in response to the Mind Flayer’s call.
Once all the kids were safe, Steve helped Indie climb out of the tunnel. She gripped him tightly, relief and exhaustion mingling in her embrace. The world above seemed strangely quiet, the night air cool against their heated, sweat-drenched skins.
Back at the Byers house, the lights stabilized, signaling a return to normalcy for the moment. Indie and Steve, standing close, shared a look of weary triumph. Indie reached out, squeezing Steve’s hand tightly, a gesture of profound gratitude and deep connection.
“They're safe,” she murmured, her voice thick with emotion.
Steve squeezed back, his eyes reflecting the fire they had just escaped and the unspoken promise that whatever came next, they would face it together.

Harley Earl
Harley Earl is the father of the Corvette. The Corvette was his idea pure and simple. He was influenced after World War II watching Jaguars and MG's run road-racing courses like Watkins Glen. He felt America needed its own sports car and he convinced GM to develop its own, inexpensive two-seater. Originally code named "Project Opel", Earl kept the Corvette program pretty much to himself. He had a special small studio with a handful of people working on it. At the time, Earl wasn't sure which GM division ought to sell the Corvette, But he felt close to Ed Cole at Chevrolet and decided to give the "Bowtie Division" first shot. Cole was sold the first time he saw the prototype. He knew it was just what the stodgy Chevrolet division needed. The Corvette debuted at Motorama in New York, January of 1953 and was an instant hit. Six months later the Corvette went into production and the rest is history. But the Corvette may not have been Earl's greatest achievement. His main accomplishment was making automotive design an institution. It was the work of Harley Earl that put the sizzle back into the American car business after World War II. His expressive designs defined an entire era. He was the first man to design a car with a wraparound windshield, cars without running boards, and the first to tantalize the motoring public with dream cars like the 1938 Y Job and the 1951 Le Sabre. He grew up in Hollywood in the early 1900s and quickly developed designs with a flare for the dramatic. His father ran a custom coach building company, and young Harley was put to work- as Chief Designer. He would often produce clay models for customers, showing them what their future vehicles would look like. Earl later became close friends with Lawrence Fisher, who became president of the Cadillac Division of General Motors in 1925. Fisher asked Earl for some design help on the new LaSalle. His successful design caught the attention of GM Chairman Alfred B. Sloan. Harley moved to Detroit in 1927 and quickly set about making GM one of the world leaders in design. In 1937, his Art and Color department was renamed General Motors Design Staff. Among Earl's most memorable designs are the Chevy Nomad, the Cadillac Eldorado Brougham, all of the early 1950s Buicks and of course, the Corvette. Earl's legacy, however is the Corvette which will live on as a testimony to his vision and his talent. Harley Earl died on April 10, 1969.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Harley J. Earl (November 22, 1893 – April 10, 1969) was the initial designated head of Design at General Motors, later becoming Vice President, the first top executive ever appointed in Design of a major corporation in American history. He was an industrial designer and a pioneer of modern transportation design. A coachbuilder by trade, Earl pioneered the use of freeform sketching and hand sculpted clay models as automotive design techniques. He subsequently introduced the "concept car" as both a tool for the design process and a clever marketing device. Earl's Buick Y-Job was the first concept car. He started "Project Opel", which eventually became the Chevrolet Corvette, and he authorized the introduction of the tailfin to automotive styling. During World War II, he was an active contributor to the Allies' research and development program in advancing the effectiveness of camouflage.

‘An honour to showcase our work’: Princess Royal visits community stables.
Tumblr media
The British Horse Society (BHS) recently welcomed their Vice-Patron, HRH The Princess Royal to a riding school in Birmingham to see how it is benefiting young people in the area.
Summerfield Stables is an inclusive community group with a core aim to ensure that all children and young people, regardless of sex, race, age or disability, in the local area have the opportunity to interact with horses, and the benefits this can bring.
This comes at a time when the equine industry’s riding centres and livery yards continue to face great challenges, with the BHS reporting a 15% reduction in riding schools since 2018.
Tumblr media
“It was an honour to host HRH The Princess Royal and to showcase the important role that horses have in our community, as well as the difference they make to children’s lives,” said Georgian Urwin, Volunteer and Part-Qualified Stage 4 Coach at Summerfield Stables.
“Founded in 1970 by Roslyn Tedd-Urwin, for over 50 years Summerfield Stables has been an important presence in the community, offering opportunities for young people and volunteers which has been even more in demand since the Covid pandemic. Today, HRH has had the opportunity to see this first hand.”
Tumblr media
The Princess Royal watched demonstrations from a host of the Approved Centre’s participants and volunteers. These comprised of an introduction to the BHS’s Pony Stars programme, which offers children the chance to discover, develop and nurture their love for ponies and the outdoors. Bobby, the BHS’s Equine Personality of the Year 2020 also made a star appearance.
HRH The Princess Royal heard from participants of the BHS Changing Lives through Horses initiative which the stables has been running since last year.
Tumblr media
“It was a privilege and an honour to introduce our Vice-Patron HRH to Summerfield Stables and all those who work so hard to make it such a success,” said James Hick, Chief Executive Officer at the BHS. “We know that the horse/human relationship can be transformational for wellbeing, and it is great to champion those centres who are so passionate about providing all young people with their first interaction with horses.
“Together, we must continue to ride by the side of every equestrian and all those who care so passionately for them. Our riding schools are a critical part of this, helping to make sure they have access to education, horse care and welfare, practical riding tuition and most importantly, an inclusive and welcoming environment.”

CBS will be using the Super Bowl on Sunday to promote its entire lineup of returning series which will roll out during the premiere week that will follow the sporting event. Two of them, comedy Ghosts and drama Fire Country, are getting special promos created specifically for the Big Game.
The Ghosts spot features Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar), Sam (Rose McIver) and their house ghosts during a running commentary while sitting on the couch watching the Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg movie Ghost.
The Fire Country promo, designed to run during half-time features co-creator, executive producer and star Max Thieriot delivering a speech akin to an inspiring coach half-time pep talk from a movie or TV series.
“Both are really high performing shows, and we think there is still a lot of opportunity to grow the audience for both,” Mike Benson, CBS’ President and Chief Marketing Officer, said about the choice of Ghosts and Fire Country for custom Super Bowl spots.
Ghosts and Fire Country both ranked as the most watched new series of the seasons they premiered in, 2021-22 and 2022-23, respectively, and have remained strong ratings performers for the network.
On Ghosts, “we have been leaning into the bigger idea about believing in ghosts in the supernatural sense but also in Ghosts the show, going for a double entendre and connecting the two things,” Benson said.
The Ghosts-Ghost mash-up came out of the idea to make the spot feel like a scene from the show. On the series, Jay & Sam and especially the ghosts, regularly watch TV and comment on it.
That’s what the gang is doing here as they banter about what would happen if Jay were a ghost, with the conversation referencing the Super Bowl, electoral college and a penny joke comedian Goldberg could’ve said in the movie while Asher recreates the moving penny trick performed by Swayze’s character in the film.
CBS’ marketing department developed the skit with Ghosts executive producers Joe Port and Joe Wiseman who wrote the dialogue to get the voices of the characters right.
A 30-second version of the spot will air during the Super Bowl. You can watch below the full 1:07-minute version, which will be available online. The WeBelieveInGhosts.com site the ad sends viewers to was created for the occasion with the idea “to create a community of believers in a fun, comedic way.”
youtube
CBS marketing execs also worked with the Fire Country creative team on their spot whose premise came about after Benson and his group saw that there was a lengthy promo spot available during half-time.
Taking inspiration from great sports movies or TV series, Benson said his team asked, “what if we take the sense of pep talk and bring it to Fire Country.”
“We try to think, as people are watching the game, where they are in the game to be contextual with the specific place for the promos to stand out more effectively.”

Common Dreams
May 22, 2024
"What is it going to take for Congress to rein in this out-of-control Supreme Court?" asked one critic. "Sen. Durbin should begin an immediate investigation into Justice Alito's behavior."
As Republican political leaders push Christian nationalism, The New York Times reported Wednesday that an "Appeal to Heaven" flag was flown last summer at the New Jersey vacation home of right-wing U.S. Supreme Justice Samuel Alito.
The revelation comes as Alito is under fire for an upside-down American flag displayed outside his Virginia residence shortly after the January 6, 2021 insurrection and just before President Joe Biden's inauguration—which was exposed by the newspaper last week and sparked calls for the justice to recuse himself from cases involving the U.S. Capitol attack or 2020 presidential election. Alito blamed his wife for that display.
"The call for insurrection is coming from inside the beach house."
The Appeal to Heaven flag, "like the inverted U.S. flag, was carried by rioters at the Capitol," the Times explained Wednesday. "Also known as the Pine Tree flag, it dates back to the Revolutionary War, but largely fell into obscurity until recent years and is now a symbol of support for former President Donald J. Trump, for a religious strand of the 'Stop the Steal' campaign, and for a push to remake American government in Christian terms."
According to the paper:
Three photographs obtained by The New York Times, along with accounts from a half-dozen neighbors and passers-by, show that the Appeal to Heaven flag was aloft at the Alito home on Long Beach Island in July and September of 2023. A Google street view image from late August also shows the flag. The photographs, each taken independently, are from four different dates. It is not clear whether the flag was displayed continuously during those months or how long it was flown overall.
While both Alito and the high court declined to comment, critics of the justice were quick to weigh in.
"The call for insurrection is coming from inside the beach house," declared Sarah Lipton-Lubet, president of Take Back the Court Action Fund. "Samuel Alito is giving Democratic leaders a rare second chance to prove that their concern for our democracy is sincere and that they are going to fight for Americans who have understandably lost faith in this court."
"How many more anti-American flags does Alito have to fly before Congress draws a line in the sand?" she asked, urging Democrats to subpoena not only Alito but also embattled conservative Justice Clarence Thomas and Chief Justice John Roberts.
Tumblr media
Indivisible co-executive director Ezra Levin directed his response to the news at Senate Judiciary Chairman Dick Durbin (D-Ill.).
"You have to hand it to the free press, but this is an embarrassment for the lazy Democratic leadership of the Judiciary Committee," said Levin. "The fact that a newspaper exposed Alito's troubling use of the same 'Appeal to Heaven' flag carried by insurrectionists on January 6th in mere days should light a fire under Senate Judiciary Chairman Dick Durbin."
"As the Supreme Court readies to rule on Trump's criminal liability for attempting to overturn the results of the election and the prosecution of over 300 January 6th rioters, Durbin has a responsibility to use every ounce of subpoena and investigative power he has to uncover just how compromised Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas are," he argued. "For the sake of our democracy, Durbin's continued inaction here isn't an option and it's time he heard that message loud and clear."
Members of the group are caravaning across Illinois in a recreational vehicle—an overt nod to Thomas' controversial motor coach—to pressure Durbin "to use the tools that are afforded to him," in the words of Jessica Motsinger with Indivisible Metro East.
Tumblr media
(Photo: Indivisible)
Stand Up America managing director of policy and political affairs Brett Edkins on Wednesday demanded swift action from Durbin as well as Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.).
"If Justice Alito had any shame, he would recuse himself from all cases involving January 6th," Edkins said. "His actions don't just cast doubts on his ability to 'faithfully and impartially' administer justice, they show him for what he is: a MAGA extremist."
"What is it going to take for Congress to rein in this out-of-control Supreme Court? Our fundamental freedoms and the integrity of our judiciary are at stake," he added. "Senate Majority Leader Schumer should bring a binding code of conduct for the Supreme Court to a vote on the Senate floor immediately, and Sen. Durbin should begin an immediate investigation into Justice Alito's behavior."

On November 15th 1746, James Reid was executed at York for being a part of the Jacobite uprising.
I'll cover the case of James Reid towards the end of this post, but he wasn't the only Jacobite to meet his end at York, so there is a fair bit of background I have to get through first.
After the capture of Carlisle on 30th December 1745, 193 Jacobite prisoners were sent to York. They arrived in York on 27th January 1746. By February 1746, there were 251 Jacobite prisoners held at York,
After transfers, releases and deaths in custody eventually there were 75 prisoners sent for trial in York. The trials were held between 2nd and 8th October 1746. Of the 75 prisoners, 53 pleaded guilty and were not tried but were automatically sentenced to death. Of the remaining 22, five were acquitted and the others sentenced to death.
On 1st November, ten executions were carried out at the Tyburn on York’s Knavesmire. Of these, three had their heads removed. The most prominent of those, Sir George Hamilton’s head was sent to Carlisle for display, while those of William Connolly and James Mayne were placed on Micklegate Bar. In 1754, the latter two heads were removed by a York tailor called William Arundel. He was heavily fined and imprisoned in York Tollbooth.
On the 8th November, eleven of the 53 planned executions were carried out and finally we get to the 15th November when just one man, James Reid, a Piper, was executed. At his trial, James had stated in his defense that he “had not carried arms”.
James Reid was one of several pipers who played at the Battle of Culloden. He was captured along with hundreds of men by Cumberland’s troops and taken to England. There James was put on trial and accused of high treason against the Crown. Piper Reid claimed that he was innocent because he did not have a gun or a sword. He said that the only thing he did that day on the battlefield was play the bagpipe.
After some deliberation the judges had a different opinion on the matter. They said that a highland regiment never marched to war without a piper at its head. Therefore, in the eyes of the law, the bagpipe was an instrument of war. The English jury, itself sympathetic, recommended mercy but it was rejected by a Commission headed by Lord Chief Baron Sir Thomas Parker.
The decision of those judges has echoed down through the generations. It was the first recorded occasion that a musical instrument was officially declared a weapon of war. For hundreds of years and many conflicts to come the bagpipes, when listed among the items captured in combat, was counted among rifles, sabers, and munitions. It is interesting to note that bugles and drums were recorded as musical instruments, where the bagpipe ranked among the lists of weapons. This continued through the Great War. Perhaps a fitting place for the pipes, but a tragic legacy for the piper James Reid who played at the last bloody battle of the Jacobites on Culloden Moor
In 1996, after some disputes with authorities, a man known as Mr Brooks was taken to court for playing the pipes on Hampstead Heath, an act forbidden under a Victorian by-law stating the playing of any musical instrument is banned. Mr Brooks plead not guilty by, claiming the pipes are not a musical instrument, but instead a weapon of war , citing the case of James Reid as a precedent. The unanimous verdict was that the pipes are first and foremost musical instruments returning them form a weapon of war to their rightful place as a musical instrument.
Two prisoners escaped from York Castle during this period; George Mills and William Farrier. Nothing is known of Farrier’s escape, but George Mills escaped on 10th August 1747. He had been given permission to go to the ‘House’ in which debtors were confined ‘to drink with a person discharged from prison.’
Seeing a coach driving out of the prison yard, “he got behind it… and, having a new coat on, passed out unrecognised”. Nothing more was heard of him. Following the King’s Act of Indemnity of 1747, all the remaining prisoners had eventually been released by 1752.
The pipes in the pictures are on display in The National Museum of Scotland, and are said to have been played at Culloden on that faefule day in 1746........

Bill Belichick
Tumblr media
Physique: Average Build Height: 5′ 11″
William Stephen Belichick (born April 16, 1952 -) is an American football coach who is the head coach and general manager of the New England Patriots of the NFL. Widely regarded as one of the greatest head coaches of all time, he holds numerous coaching records, including the record of most Super Bowl wins (six) as a head coach, all with the Patriots, along with two more during his time as the defensive coordinator of the New York Giants, for the record of eight combined total Super Bowl victories (the most of any individual in NFL history) as coach and coordinator.

Handsome with a perpetual grumpy look, Belichick is a big, hairy fuckfest of a man. And under his tenure with the Patriots, he was a central figure as the head coach as well as the chief executive during the franchise's dynasty from 2001 to 2019. Plus I bet he fucks like a champ.

Of course he's straight, having married in 1977, but they divorced in the summer of 2006. The couple have three children. Oh… his relationship with former Giants receptionist helped precipitate her divorce. Now I'm starting to wonder about that rumored sex tape. Apparently his relationship with his girlfriend ended and he's back on the market. There isn't much else I can say about him. He's a grumpy looking man… with nice tits and I'd love for him to pound me into the bed.

It's been a few days since the "announcement" of the GIGA Pro Gymnastics thing and I'd like to share some research and my lengthy list of questions about this project.
Let's start by saying that there is a document floating around that is marked confidential and proprietary. It's not long, it's an info graphic and appears to be aimed at investors or recruitment. I'm not sharing it. It does inform my questions.
Who Are These People?
First of all: The officers listed are Aimee Boorman as Co-founder and Chief Events Officer. Maura Fox as Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer. LaPrise Williams as Co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer. This is what I can find based on publicly available information:
The gymnastics community knows who Aimee Boorman is so I'm not going to detail her. She became a FIG Brevet judge in the last two years but is very junior. She's a category 4 judge meaning that except at the smallest FIG meets she is limited to things like being a line judge or a timing judge, this is not a slight. Everyone has to start as a cat 4 but that does mean she doesn't have a lot of experience as a judge.
Maura Fox has a linkedin which informs what I know about her. She was an executive for Time Warner leaving in 2009. Her last job there was as group vice president for consumer devices, cross platform, and strategy. She then ran her own consulting form for 10 years which her linkedin says ended in 2019. She's honestly the person I want to know the most about to take this project seriously or not. She says she's been involved in launching professional circuits in cycling and men's tennis. I'd like to find out what those ventures were to be able to assess the likelihood that this venture will survive. She then worked for some kind of media products group that I can't really get my head around for two years before going to work for GIGA. Her linked in identifies GIGA as having been founded in 2021. So they've had 2 years to build this... which frankly matches with the fact that I had heard about them recruiting potential athletes last year.
LaPrise Williams is a pediatric nurse who was the Baylor Acro and Tumbling coach for from 2011-2014. She later told the press she intended to file a Title IX complaint against the university but I have no idea how that worked out. She opened a gym in St Vincent and the Grenadines which identifies itself as the first gym in the islands. She is the Technical Director for the St Vincent and the Grenadines Gymnastics Association. Here is their facebook page. Now I'm going to put some context on the SVGGA here and I don't want anyone to think I'm disparaging them or her. There are many small federations in the world and this is one of them. It is very clearly a legitimate National Governing Body (NGB). At the moment they have no FIG licensed gymnasts in any discipline and Williams is the only FIG brevet judge from the federation in any discipline--she is a category 4 judge for WAG. The facebook activity for the fed runs:
post on June 4th of 2023 which is a repost from Williams' gym's instagram page.
on September 25, 2022 they changed their profile and header pictures
on January 25, 2020 they posted pictures of a team going to Manhatten Classic.
on June 16, 2019 a repost from an article from the Trinidad and Tobago Newsday about the Caribbean Gymnastics Championships which is very likely not a FIG sanctioned event.
All of this is to say this is a small, relatively inactive federation with limited resources and staff and I'm not entirely sure if much weight should begiven to her involvement in it for this project.
Who are the Sponsors/Who is going to pay the Athletes?
This is upfront going to be a lot of "I have no idea." Their launch material doesn't say. The document I've seen doesn't say and the fact that the thing has supposedly existed for two years without a sponsor lined up to be named at public launch is a little worrying to me.
The document describes a two tiered structure for the athletes with start fees and prize money for all (the initial start fee is $1500 to be paid to all gymnasts with GIGA paying for things like travel, hotel, meals, etc). The prize purse for the first year event is described in the low 6 figure range with mention of an All Around winner. I've seen no mention of teams so it appears to me that they're planning on this being an individual competition circuit (more thoughts on that later). I have seen no reference to insurance of any sort and the only medical related thing in the document is onsite massage, PT, and recovery aids. My major concern continues to be that these people are recruiting adult aged post-college athletes and all I can think is there will be many knees destroyed. And this is the United States... so look forward to some Go Fund Me for medical treatment in the future... It's notable that the European club leagues are all in countries with nationalized health care. Their document talks about career longevity for gymnasts but I'm not at all convinced they're promising an infrastructure for that.
There is a second section of this document that talks about headliners and the things they can negotiated for as individuals. So some gymnasts will be paid appearance fees--which I should stress I think is perfectly normal.
Why is it hard to figure out if these people want to be a professional league or a media platform?
Because they want to be both. They want hold to meets and stream content to fans as well as sell access to the athletes for fans experiences. It looks like kind of standard VIP meet and greet kind of things from what little detail I've seen... you pay money to meet the athlete for say 30 minutes with a group of other fans. I've done this kind of thing for television actors. It's fun. But it's also by it's nature not something a lot of fans can afford.
They also want to build a library of content that is essentially athlete interviews presumably the access of which they can sell in whatever the subscription package of their multimedia platform is. It's all pretty vague so we'll have to figure out what it means when their products actually launch.
For now my main concern is why did they announce this in June without a date or location or a format for their first competition?
Lingering Questions...
I have so many... aside from the ones I've touched on above. They talk about how this hasn't been done before. It has. The most successful attempt at launching a pro-gymnastics competition circuit was in 1997-98 in the post Atlanta Olympics hype. They used a modified NCAA code and the meets were aired on CBS. I don't need them to talk about the previous two attempts (except maybe don't claim to be the first) but I really hope they are aware of them at the very least to find out why they didn't last. I fear that they either didn't do that research or they assume because it was 20+ years ago that their multimedia platform makes them so different that it doesn't apply.
What the heck is the meet structure here? They talk a LOT about the successes of NCAA gymnastics but at least the materials I've seen seem to suggest that they don't plan on having teams. Teams are a key part of building fan support in both NCAA and the European club leagues. I still don't think you can model a US league based on those European leagues mostly because they are build on a lot of routines from junior gymnasts and this project seems to be entirely about post-NCAA age careers. That's in addition to my medical insurance and liability insurance questions.
What is USAG's involvement in this? My fear is "they don't want USAG's involvement". See the launching of new professional sports leagues in a country often depend on how much support and buy-in they have from the NGB. One of the major differences between the currently running National Women's Soccer League and earlier defunct attempts is buy-in from USA Soccer. And I promise you that US Soccer is no more popular then USAG. I'm also informed by the fact that playing conditions for a lot of NWSL teams have been pretty bad (let's not touch the sexual harassment issues within teams). One team was playing on a home field that had holes in it and couldn't afford to pay for their players shoes. Gymnastics equipment is extremely expensive. Millions of dollars just for the competition apparatus. Are these people buying it? From who? Are they going to transport it around the country? Are they going to host it in a central location so they can store the equipment locally or rent it from a specific source? So many questions.
What code of points are they using? US developmental program--you know the one whose code of points you have to buy and isn't publicly accessible without paying for it? Some modified version of the above (like NCAA)? If they're riding the coat tales of NCAA I somehow doubt they're using the FIG code which will make it somewhat harder for non-US/Canadian athletes to be involved. What difficulty expectations will there be? How are they going to handle judges? How are they going to assure fans and athletes that judging will be fair given how much money they are saying is in the prize purses and that they're setting up a two tiered "everyone" and "headliners" compensation structure?
Conclusions:
I'm highly skeptical of all of this. I'm worried about what seems to have been a premature information free public launch. Their website and materials seem amateurish to me and I just can't get my head around the idea that they launch this publicly with no sponsors named.
I'm not at all convinced that these people know how or why European club leagues work, why previous attempts at this in the US have failed, what a lot of the appeal of NCAA gymnastics is, or that they have the experience necessary to do any of this.

CHAPTER VIII: The Trooper
There was not much time for introductions. Eleven's arrival seemed to be a help, but not the entire solution to the problem.
When they all gathered to find out what they should do, just like last year, it was the girl who had the power to close the portal, just as Will had said they should do.
But as being a hive mind, if they closed the portal, it would end up killing every part connected to the mind flayer. Which presented a problem: Will was still under its influence, so he was going to die too.
Before the girl could close the portal, they had to find a way to separate Will from the Mind Flayer. And Joyce had an idea. As if it were a virus, they would make the little boy's body uninhabitable. They would raise his temperature to expel the entity and thus save him.
The plan went into action as they split into groups:
Joyce, Jonathan and Nancy took the child to a cabin Hopper had, far enough away from everything, so they could render his body uninhabitable for the mind flayer. Hopper and Eleven would return to the lab, so she could close the portal once Will was out of danger.
The remaining, would be left waiting at the Byers' house. Safe.
The Byers' house, now emptier and quieter, seemed more somber. Y/n was sitting on the table with her legs crossed and her eyes fixed on one of the pictures on the floor, not really looking. Carried away by the adrenaline, fear and uncertainty of the moment, y/n had lost track of time. It was as if her brain was only concerned with the present. When she looked up she watched in disgust as Steve and Dustin hid the corpse of the demodog in Joyce's fridge as if it were just leftovers from Thanksgiving.
Then her attention turned to one of the other kids. Mike paced back and forth, his quick, erratic steps revealing his nervousness. His hands fiddled restlessly, first interlacing his fingers and then bringing them to his mouth to bite his nails. Every now and then, he would pause briefly, looking down at the ground as if debating with himself, his brow furrowed and his lips moving slightly without a sound.
'Mike, would you just stop already?' his friend said, exasperated, leaning back on the broom he'd been using to sweep the broken glass off the floor in an attempt to keep himself busy.
'You weren't in there, okay, Lucas? That lab is swarming with hundreds of those dogs.'
'Demo-dogs!'
'The chief will take care of her.'
'Like she needs protection.' Whispered Max.
'Listen, dude, a coach calls a play in a game, bottom line, you execute it. All right?'
'Okay, first of all, this isn't some stupid sports game. And second, we're not even in the game. We're on the bench.'
'So my point is...' Steve was silent for a moment, analyzing the situation. Everyone looked at him with a raised eyebrow. 'Right, yeah, we're on the bench, so, uh, there's nothing we can do.'
'That's not entirely true. I mean, these Demo-dogs, they have a hive mind. When they ran away from the bus, they were called away.'
'So If we get their attention...'
'Maybe we can draw them from the lab.'
'Clear a path to the gate.'
'Yeah, and then we all die.' Insisted Steve.
'That's one point of view.'
'No, that's not a point of view, man. That's a fact.'
'I got it! This is where the chief dug his hole.' Mike headed for the other room, and pointed to a part of the map drawn by Will. The others followed him to see. 'This is our way into the tunnel. So... Here, right here. This is like a hub. So you got all the tunnels feeding in here. Maybe if we set this on fire...'
'Oh, yeah? That's a no.' Steve interjected, completely serious.
'The mind flayer would call away his army.' The kids continued without paying him any attention.
'They'd all come to stop us.'
'We circle back to the exit.'
'Guys.'
'By the time they realize we're gone...'
'Hey...'
'He would be at the gate.'
'Hey. Hey! Hey! This is not happening.'
'But...'
'No, no, no, no, no, no, no.'
'No buts. I promised I'd keep you shitheads safe, and that's exactly what I plan on. We're staying here. On the bench. And we're waiting for the starting team to do their job. Does everybody understand?'
'This isn't a stupid sports game.'
'I said does everybody understand that? I need a yes.' Y/n had been listening to their discussion in silence, analyzing the two points of view. She was silent for a reason, they were both right. 'I can have some support here, y/n. Please...' She raised both eyebrows and snorted, somewhat uncomfortably.
'I don't think you know me well if you're asking me to support authority' She began, and the children seemed to celebrate a victory in the debate, but y/n raised her index finger and pointed at them. They instantly fell silent. 'However, it's risky to go back out...'
'But we have to help them, we can't let them alone take the risk' Mike demanded, almost desperate. Y/n looked at Steve, and he didn't seem to want to budge. The house was silent for a few seconds, and they were interrupted by the rumble of an escape pipe that y/n recognized as familiar. She and Max looked at each other.
'Shit.' They said in unison. 'Billy.' They all ran to the window to confirm, but there was no doubt. Y/n would recognize the sound of her brother's car as if it were her own voice. When she saw his car pull up to the house where they were hiding and stop in the Byers' yard, she made a quick decision.
'Stay here. Don't go out. I'll fix it.'
Billy got out of the car, his expression shifting through a mixture of surprise, concern and relief at the sight of his sister, all in a matter of seconds.
'What's going on, y/n? I came for Max, but why are you here?' he asked, confused. Y/n took a deep breath, trying to stay calm.
'Billy, please listen. It's all right. But I need you to go home. We're here for a reason, and I need you to trust me.’ Billy frowned, but nodded slowly.
'I always trust you, y/n. But we have a problem at home.'
'Neal...' She guessed. Y/n was silent for a few minutes, and rubbed her forehead, nervous. Then she told him the best lie she could think of at that moment. Billy looked at her, assessing the situation.
'And you think that's going to work?'
'I'll call him too. Trust me.' she insisted, keeping her gaze steady. 'I know it's hard, but I promise you everything will be fine.' Then she hesitated for a second before saying what she was going to say, but she had never broken a promise to Billy, and one of them was not to lie to him. 'Tomorrow I'll explain everything to you, I promise. Now I need you to leave. Right now it's... Complicated.'
Billy seemed to think about it, but he opened his eyes surprised and gritted his teeth, as his gaze shifted from y/n to something behind her.
'Harrington?'
Y/n turned around and Steve had left the house, even though she had told him not to.
'Billy.' The boy greeted. 'It's not what you think.' He explained.
'And what am I supposed to think, Harrington?'
'Billy...' She looked at him pleadingly. 'Please...' His gaze shifted from her sister to the boy once more. Finally, he murmured, looking at her.
'I hope there's a good explanation for all this.'
'There is, I promise. But it's...'
'Complicated.' He guessed, she nodded. Finally, he let out an exasperated sigh. 'This better not turn into a disaster, Sundance.' Y/n nodded, tapping his shoulder reassuringly..
'Thanks, Butch.' She replied, using the nickname they had given each other as kids, hugging him. He hugged her back. He had no reason to doubt her, she was the only person who had never failed him.
After letting go, Billy lingered a moment longer, staring at Steve, his gaze still filled with doubt and worry.
'I know where you live, Harrington.' He warned. Although Steve looked concerned, y/n could tell his brother's teasing tone. She smiled.
Finally, he nodded his head, gave her a small worried smile and walked back to his car. y/n watched him drive away before returning to the house.
Once the car disappeared, she looked at Steve.
'I think I said don't let anyone out.' She said, frowning, and started walking back inside the house. As she passed by the boy, she gave him a little smack on the back of the head with her hand.
Inside, the boys looked at them expectantly.
‘Everything okay?’ asked Lucas, noticeably relieved that a fight hadn't broken out.
‘Yeah, all good,’ y/n said, smiling slightly.
‘I told you only she can handle him.’ Says Max calmly. Y/n looked at her sister.
‘Everything's fine. But we have to take care of the problem you caused.’
'Neal.' Guessed the younger one, rolling her eyes.
Y/n picked up the phone and dialed her home number, Susan answered. y/n repeated the lie she'd made up with Billy so their versions would match when he arrived without his sisters. They were at the home of Nancy, a girl from school. She had gone to ask her for help with a homework assignment. She didn't realize the time until Billy showed up, but they had invited them over for dinner and a sleepover. A girls' night out. She passed the phone to Max, too, to reassure her mother. Dustin and Steve faked girls' voices to give more credibility, y/n hoped it wasn't too over the top. Then Susan passed the phone to her father and y/n reassured him again that they were fine, and apologized again to Billy on her behalf for not letting him know she was going with Max. The adults seemed to buy the lie, it was just a matter of waiting until tomorrow to find out completely. After cutting the call short, she looked at Steve.
'Where were we?'
After arguing for five more minutes, they all climbed into Bob's car, having already loaded up what they needed to execute the kids' plan. All except Steve, who was still standing with his arms crossed, in the doorway, totally against the plan. He looked at everyone disapprovingly. Mike suggested dropping him and leaving, but y/n snorted and got out of the car. She heard Max say something like ' here we go again'.
'That's a terrible idea.' He started, defending his stance, as she approached. She nodded. 'Then why are you going along with them?'
'Because it's the only terrible idea we have. Look...' Y/n moved closer to Steve with determination in her eyes as she tried to convince him of the importance of joining the effort to protect others.
‘Steve, think of it like a basketball game,’ y/n began, looking for an analogy that would resonate with the guy. ‘When your team is struggling and needs defense, there are players missing from the field, you can't just sit on the bench. They're getting mashed. You have to be on the field. Help protect the zone, making sure they don't score more points against you. Eleven and Hopper are alone on the field, the demodogs are the opposing team and they're surrounding them. We are the defense. They need our help to get out of this situation.’ She explained, not having much of a clue how basketball really worked, and crossing her fingers hoping it would work.
Steve frowned, mulling over y/n's words as he recalled key moments when his team had been in tough situations and he'd had to step in to make a difference.
‘I understand what you're saying,’ Steve finally said, his expression shifting from doubt to determination. ‘I can't just watch from the bench.’ He replied, though he didn't seem entirely convinced, it was as if his common sense and instinct were at odds.
Y/n nodded with gratitude and relief. Steve had caught the analogy, whether it was correct or not. They both walked back to the vehicle and Steve sat in the back of the car, next to Dustin, Max and Lucas. Mike rode next to y/n. She cut the ignition wires with a pocketknife.
'I'm sorry, Bob. You'd understand.' She connected the wires to start the engine and then looked determined. Everyone but Max looked at her in shock. 'Tell me which way to go.' The boy nodded gravely and y/n put it in reverse, speeding out of the Byers' yard, leaving a trail of dust and dirt in their trail.
When they reached the pumpkin field leading to the tunnel entrance, they got out of the vehicle, loading the gas tanks and covering their faces with bandanas and scarves. Steve stood at the side of the car, folded in on himself, hands resting on his knees.
'Remind me never to get in a car again if you drive.' He commented, trying to catch his breath. y/n rolled her eyes.
'I know what I'm doing. Did I hit something on the road?' She asked with a shrug. 'Bob from up there can't complain,' she said, patting the paint on the car. Steve straightened up, and brought a hand to his stomach.
'I honestly don't know, I had my eyes closed the whole ride' He admitted. Y/n sighed and offered him his anti-spore kit. Dustin appeared next to them with a bat full of nails, and handed it to her.
'Come on, we can't waste much time.'
That day had been full of strange things for y/n, but the worst so far, had been going into that tunnel by choice. Through her makeshift mask, everyone could tell she was wrinkling her nose, and avoiding looking at the walls as much as possible.
' 'She's afraid of spiders.' Max explained. ' 'She always avoids going into enclosed places in case one shows up.'
'Oh... 'Yeah. Looks like a spider tunnel.' Dustin understood, causing y/n to pause and a shiver ran down her spine. She forced a smile.
'Could you guys stop saying the S-word, please? Thank you.' She said through her teeth, and forced herself forward, closing the formation, Steve being in the front, followed by the younger ones.
After a while, when they located the center of the tunnels, they began to spray the walls with the fuel. y/n tried to concentrate on the appearance of the walls, which looked more like flesh and tentacles, than a place where the arthropods she hated so much, could sneak around. It was still disgusting, but thinking about it that way, it didn't scare her.
They all stood behind Steve, and he lit his lighter. When he threw it to the floor, all the walls of that subway chamber caught fire. A skin-raising shriek echoed through the place and everyone began to run for the exit. They knew it was only a matter of time before those mutant dogs appeared, provoked by the heat.
As she ran, y/n glanced back, protecting their backs, and bumped into something, not seeing where she was going. It was Steve's behind. Everyone had stopped. Searching for the cause of their pause, y/n noted with horror that one of the creatures was in front of them. She stepped to Steve's side, protecting the children as well. Dustin, however, stepped forward.
'Dart?' he muttered, referring to the creature. y/n noticed the spots on the tail of the animal the boy had described a few hours earlier. She tried to grab the boy by his jacket, but he reassured her, as if to say he knew what he was doing.
'He's completely crazy.' Steve muttered next to her. The boy was talking to the demodog as if it were a naughty puppy, but the craziest thing was that the creature seemed to recognize its former owner. Dustin distracted the animal with some candy, and motioned for the others to continue on their way. One by one, and trying not to draw attention to themselves, they passed behind Dart.
Only Dustin remained. Y/n rested a hand on his shoulder.
'You know he will...' She muttered, quietly trying to find the words.
'Yes, I know... But it's the right thing to do.' He replied with some sadness and quickly wiped away a tear that was falling down his cheek. Y/n give him a quick pat on his back, nodding and Dustin turned around to follow the others. Y/n followed behind him. When they were a little further, they picked up their pace and came upon the entrance to the tunnel. The rope was waiting for them.
Steve and y/n helped the kids up first, one by one, listening as the howls of the demodogs were getting closer and closer, echoing off the tunnel walls.
'Ok, y/n, now you.' Steve said, and y/n prepared to climb. As he put a hand on the rope and began to reload his weight on it, he felt in his own feet the trembling caused by the stomping of the demodogs. She turned instinctively to see the creatures running straight at them and her eyes widened. The children were screaming from above, horrified. Instinctively Steve grabbed her by the waist, pulling her closer to him. However, something strange happened. None of the monsters seemed to notice their presence, moving on forward, as if they were frightened of something else. Steve and y/n were not their priority.
A light shone from outside, forcing y/n to close her eyes.
A moment later and without wasting any more time, y/n stepped out of the tunnel with Steve's help, then offered him a hand so that he could climb out without difficulty. She sprawled on the floor, and pulled down the scarf covering her nose and mouth, breathing in the fresh air outside. Although she could smell the stench of rotting pumpkins, her lungs were grateful to be able to breathe more comfortably. There was something comforting about that disgusting aroma.
' She made it. Eleven closed the portal.' Mike commented confidently.
Without moving from where she was, y/n nodded slightly and let out a nervous laugh, letting go of all the tension and nerves she had felt all afternoon.
It was all over at last.
