"... I don't know what's going to happen."
Merry & Pippin // Cigarette Duet (Instrumental) by Princess Chelsea
If someone would let me talk their ears off about how sad these two make me sometimes, I am willing to welcome them with open arms. Pippin is the youngest of three sisters, and Merry is an only child. To each other they have been the brothers that they have never had. Pippin had followed Merry through all walks of life, and Merry has happily guided. Smoking, drinking, laughing, stealing, causing mischief, but underneath it all, he took care of Pippin.
Pippin expected Merry to come with him when they separated. Merry couldn't bear to say goodbye but he watched Shadowfax until Pippin disappeared. Watching his brother ride away.
Merry, perhaps knew that he might not ever see Pippin again, that either of them might fall victim to the peril's that wait ahead for them. He should be mad at Pippin's foolishness, that he got himself into this mess. Yet he would have hated if the last time he saw Pippin to be any moment that wasn't that of love, so he said nothing of the sort. Nor could he find it within himself to say to Pippin that it is the end. He felt his heart bleeding with despair, but couldn't put it upon himself to let Pippin feel it too. Merry's heart ached with Pippin's last desperate cry.
As Merry fell under the Black Breath, he was convinced he was going to die. That he would never see Pippin nor the Shire ever again. Even when Pippin did find him, in his sickness he assured himself that Pippin was there to only put Merry in a grave.
Pippin might be a fool. But he'd be damned if he let his cousin, his brother slip off... with leaving Pippin out of all of the new adventures within the silver glass. There is still love yet to be shared.

Lord of the Rings picket day at Amazon
[first image id: two WGA picket signs that both say "Writers Guild on Strike!" with pictures below. The first sign has a picture of Pippin from the Lord of the Rings movies played by Billy Boyd and says, "Second breakfast!? Sigh. I can hardly afford the first" and the second has a picture of the dragon Smaug from the Hobbit movies and says "Rings of Power per episode: $57M. WGA Amazon ask, per year: $32M. Smaug approves!"
second image id: outdoor table setup with boxes of food fundraised by fans for the picketers. There's a printed sign that says, "The beacons have been lit. Ringers around the world stand in solidarity with writers. Second breakfast and Elevenses is on us! The Lord of the Rings fandom." end ID]
Thanks to everyone who boosted, shared, and donated to the Lord of the Rings picket event! Food delivery was a success! (images from Chelsea Schwarts on Twitter)

Pippin found a baby dragon in need of a home, she begged me to keep it, and now I'm apparently a dragon mom. I always wondered how that happened! Pippin named her Chelsea.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to celebrate our first 90 years in such spectacular fashion, and to the theatre community for its support. As we plan for the next 90 years and beyond, my hope is that the collection continues to grow and flourish and reflect the diversity of voices that have shaped the theatre as we know it and are shaping its future.”
“The Billy Rose Theatre Division has served as the collective memory for our community by capturing the ephemeral nature of our unique art form. Until we can all experience the joy of live theater again, we are thrilled to look back into the archives to highlight theatrical masterpieces from their vast collection,” said producers Julie Boardman and Nolan Doran. “Our hope is to raise funds to ensure the archives remain accessible to future theatre makers for generations to come.”
