I’ll be there for you (Yes, like the Friends theme) Chapter 7
Summary: After being in a coma for two years Vash wakes up, not being able to remember Anything that has happened since he was “a teenager”. Truth be told, this morning Vash is super nervous to join everyone for breakfast.
After all, they all know now that he's not human.
But he can't stay away forever and someone is already knocking on his door, so he hastily opens and-
„Brother Vashus, will you be joining us for breakfast on this wonderful Tuesday morning?“
Vash stares at Chelsea.
„W-What....?“
„It's breakfast time. Time for breakfast. Munch munch, crunch crunch.“
Vash lets out a sigh.
Maybe he should give up on trying to understand whatever is going on in that girl's head.
Chelsea is skipping along the hallway back to the kitchen and Vash follows.
„Good morning Vash! You want some coffee?“ Steven greets him before anyone else can say anything.
„Uh.. I don't know if i ever had coffee.“ „Pour him one extra strong and black I wanna see if he can scale walls.“ Melvin mutters under his breath.
„What?“
„What?“
Melvin and Steven stare at each other.
Vash just sits down and grabs some toast.
„I'll just pour you half a cup and you can try it and tell me what you think of it.“
„Drink it up, drink it up, drink it up...“ Melvin continues to mutter.
„Maybe you should shut your mouth for a while until you are properly awake.“ Steven offers and pushes the cup towards Vash who takes it and smells it.
„Put some milk and sugar in it. It's less bitter then.“
Vash does as suggested.
Chelsea stuffs herself with cereals. Anna is nowhere to be seen yet.
Melvin's head suddenly slams on the table. He's snoring loudly.
Everyone immediately stops their movements and stare.
„Uhm....“ Vash looks the most confused „Does this happen often...?“
Chelsea makes an affirmative noise, her cheeks looking like a squirrel's.
„Once in a while. Let's ignore him for now. Did you sleep well?“
Vash takes a sip from his coffee and makes a face.
That's not exactly going to be his favourite taste.
„I think so? I had no nightmares at least. Or any dreams. But I needed a while to fall asleep.“
Steven nods.
„That's to be expected. A lot of stuff happened yesterday, you're in a new environment and then we bombarded you with questions as well. I'm just glad you're here because now its not me anymore who's the oldest.“
„I don't feel like 153 to be honest with you.“
„You don't look a day over 152 anyway.“
Morning assembly was pretty uneventful. Joe was absent again and by now Vash wonders if he will actually ever see that guy.
They talked about what each group will have for lunch, what today's therapy groups will be and sang Happy Birthday for a girl in all black named Lucy. She glared at everyone as if she wanted to explode them with her mind.
Then Vash headed to the living-room and went through the bookshelves there. He found a thriller-ish novel called „20 iles from May City“ and just tried that one out.
By the time he had to head for therapy he was already at page 35.
Now that Vash has gotten used to his new surroundings and everything he has more free space in his mind to actually realise how small Mrs Fischer's office is. And its so Full of stuff. Tons of paintings on the walls that all look very... abstract. Mostly Vash can't even tell what they are supposed to be. The colours clash. Nothing is making sense.
Then his attention is caught by a big tube filled with water and bubbles in the corner. In it are fake fish „swimming“ around. There is also a light changing colours constantly in the back to illuminate the tube.
The fake fish get caught in the bubbles, rise to the top and then sink back down slowly only to be caught by the bubbles again.
It is mesmerizing and it takes all of Vash's willpower to redirect his attention back to Mrs. Fischer. Who is looking at him expectantly.
„Okay, seems like you got distracted. So let me ask again. Did you like the movie you watched yesterday?“
„Uuuhh...“
There is a hint of amusement on his therapist's face.
„Uhm.. I guess it was okay? I don't have any experience with movies. But what bothers me is that it seems like everyone else knows more about me than I do.“
Mrs. Fischer leans slightly forward on her elbows.
„What do you mean?“
„They said I look like Vash the Stampede. I assume that is... me? I don't know anything about that guy. Sounds like a complete stranger to me. Why would I destroy a whole city?“
Mrs. Fischer hums and taps on her chin.
While she is thinking about her next words Vash's attention slowly drifts back to the fish tube. He kinda wants one for himself. But then he would never do anything else besides sitting in front of it and staring at it. There is something deeply relaxing about it.
„Well, there are theories about that. But we won't know for certain unless you manage to remember it and share it with us. We do know that it's currently being rebuild, around the crater that is left. How do you feel about learning all this?“
Vash forces himself to pay attention to his therapist, not the fish tube.
„I guess... I don't know? How am i supposed to feel? Maybe shocked? Guilty?“
He stares at his feet.
„I don't feel anything right now. Is that bad? I can't remember a thing.“
The therapy session was inconclusive for the most part. Vash was reassured that not knowing what to think and feel about a past he cannot remember is normal. He basically just woke up from a coma as well. Memories will come in time.
He was also given a small bottle partly filled with water and glitter and tiny colourful stones and a tiny sailing ship, that he has to hold sideways and then slowly sway from side to side.
Which was utterly fascinating to Vash so until he was called for lunch he sat on his bed staring at it.
After lunch, spinach with steak and tater tots, Melvin asks Vash if he wants to play soccer with him but Vash declines.
"I have depression now."
"We all do." Melvin says with a really dry voice.
"Fool. He has depression Group now." Steven says with a slight sneer. "I am headed there as well. You can just follow me."
"What do we even do in Depression Group? Are we just.. sad?" Vash asks. He has no idea what to imagine. He was told to bring a notebook and something to write with and that's it.
"I actually don't know myself. This is a new group and I was in behavioural therapy before this but that is over now."
Depression & Anxiety Group is on the third floor right under the attic, in the same room where everyone organises their meds for their pill boxes. Vash hasn't done that yet though since staff still has to figure out Exactly what meds he needs.
Behaviour therapy is in the same room, but as Steven said, that group is over for now.
The room also has a glass wall to the floor, like the Assembly room directly opposite. It also quite unfortunately has lots of large windows so the sun is streaming into the room right now. When Vash enters he feels like he's in a sauna.
He sits down next to Steven and immediately recognises the girl from today morning who still looks like she wants to explode people with her mind. There are also five other people in the room already, including the therapist. Who is shuffling through his papers as of now.
"So uhm.. Is... is everyone here? Where is my attendance list?"
Two more people enter the room and sit down. Not everyone has brought a notebook. Maybe they forgot. Or weren't told.
"Okay that should be all. Or is anyone missing?"
"Joe can't come, he is feeling really sick." some guy says.
At this point Vash is starting to accept that this Joe must be some kind of cryptid. Maybe nobody has ever seen him.
"That is very unfortunate..."
The therapist does not sound convincing at all.
More paper shuffling.
"Okay then. We should be 9 in total but Joe is sick so that makes 8 and there's 8 of us in here, yes very good. Good afternoon, welcome to depression and anxiety... group. I am Mr. Kowalski and I am just filling in for Mrs. Fischer. She had to urgently see an external patient of ours. This is a new group so we will figure things out as we go. Or You will. I won't. I won't be here next time. I normally lead the pain group and also the addiction group."
Some girl starts giggling.
"Haha yes very funny, that is how the groups are called, I did not come up with this. You are laughing you are obviously not depressed, get out."
More giggling.
"At least someone finds this amusing." Mr. Kowalski seems like he really doesn't wanna be here.
"Do you know why you are here?"
"Uh.. because we are depressed and don't want to be anymore..?"
Looks like the blue-haired guy from last evening is also here.
"Wrong! You are here because you want to go on a long and hard journey to the inner workings of your mind and fix the broken clockwork."
Silence.
This guy is definitely just as bonkers as anyone else here.
Mr. Kowalksi clears his throat.
"My humor is clearly misplaced here. Let's do some actual therapy then. I have a worksheet for you. Take one and pass it along, please."
It's about symptoms of depression. But oneself's symptoms. How is Vash supposed to know that yet? He doesn't even really feel depressed, maybe.
"Depression can take many faces." Mr. Kowalksi explains.
"Some people sleep all day, some people cannot sleep at all. Some lose all interest in their hobbies. Some don't feel anything, they just get unexplained pains and aches or an upset stomach. Or even funkier physical symptoms. Some want to end their lifes... Depression can disguise itself as other illnesses as well. I had a patient who told me she had no idea she was depressed. Went to her doctor and was treated for stomach ulcers. Took three years until someone figured out what was actually going on. It is really important that you all know what your very own personal brand of depression is, before you can do anything about it. You don't have to fill this out immediately. Do it in your own time and bring it back with you to the next session. For now, let's brainstorm a few symptoms of depression that you are familiar with and put it on the white board here."
Vash's head is swimming. That was way too much stuff for him to take in and the group seemed to drag on and on. He definitely has issues with focussing. Originally he was planning on doing research on what depression and anxiety actually Are but given how full his head is right now he shouldn't do anything that uses his brain at all.
Let's focus on something easier instead. What is going on around him?
This time, not much. His group might be over but there is still therapy stuff going on for the others. Group 2 also went out a bit earlier. They went bowling. Which is another thing that Vash doesn't know.
Steven is quiet. Melvin also seems very quiet. There is muffled talking in the hallway but it isn't anyone Vash can immediately recognise.
The next thing on his schedule is Relaxation. Yeah, that is literally what it is called.
Vash doesn't know what to expect from it. Will they just talk about relaxing things or will they actually... relax? How do you just do that on command?
He once overheard some people at the hospital talk about something called Yoga. Maybe they will do this Yoga thing in Relaxation?
They did not do The Yoga Thing at Relaxation Group, which is the full name of the group.
Instead the therapist, who is funnily also one of the physical therapists but not Diego, had laid out foam mats on the floor and instructed everyone to lie down in a way that is comfortable for everyone.
It was a small group there were only seven people, Vash included, and the group was being held in the room with the glass wall where morning assembly is done.
Relaxing soft music was playing in the background.
First Vash was worried that people might look at him funny if he showed up in fuzzy slippers and sweatpants but looked like everyone was wearing similar stuff.
After everyone had lied down the therapist was giving a small introduction of what she wanted to do today, which was reading them something they have to imagine while doing their best to relax.
Five minutes into the story which was about flying in a balloon over sand dyed in a myriad of colours, Vash heard the first person starting to snore.
Several people seemed to have fallen asleep and had to be woken back up after the session was over. Vash himself was feeling a bit groggy too.
This seemed to be a common theme lately. He doesn't remember that he got this tired as fast when he was younger. Is that what people mean when they say they are „getting old“?.
In reality he was simply still overwhelmed by everything being new and novel to him. His brain had a whole lot of catching up to do, after all.
After all therapies for the day are over Vash is now lying on his bed with his book and looks for a radio station to listen to while he is reading. He figured since they found his radio and it is still functional he should also actually use it.
Seems like it was tuned to rather military-sounding stations previously but Vash managed to get „normal“ stations in now. Probably at some point in life these served a purpose to him but not now. But he can't imagine that he used to be a military man at all. What's there even to fight? Worms? Hopefully not other people. A war is the last things anyone needs on this planet.
Maybe... Knives?
Before dread and a Very Bad Feeling can fester in Vash the radio is blaring in his ears.
„TURN YOUR PHONE INTO A STYLISH COFFEE MACHINE WITH THIS APP!!!!“
Nope.
„..And this is why the planet is actually an elongated trapezoid.“
Nope.
„The cure all for everything. Excessive sweating, stomach aches, flus and other infections, buckteeth, obesity, internal bleeding, death and balding be gone!“
Nope.
„DANN GEH DOCH ZU NETTO!!!!!“
Uhm... Vash would rather not.
„Amazing! What has hanging upside down from a cliff for two decades taught you?“ That.. that's very painful...?
„(Speaks in ancient greek)“
Huh...?
The sound of the worst „music“ Vash has ever heard in his entire life fills the room. This song-like something has more bpm than there are stars in the entire universe and the sawtooth synths could cut down a whole forest in two seconds. Nope, dear god, nope!
„And now... types of numbers... Natural numbers: The counting numbers {1, 2, 3, ...} are commonly called natural numbers; however, other definitions include 0, so that the non-negative integers {0, 1, 2, 3, ...} are also called natural numbers. Natural numbers including 0 are also sometimes called whole numbers.
Integers: Positive and negative counting numbers, as well as zero: {..., −3, −2, −1, 0, 1, 2, 3, ...}. Rational numbers: Numbers that can be expressed as a ratio of an integer to-“
Nope.
„Calibur FM! The only alternative radio on the planet that Matters. Welcome to Earth Hour where we only play bands that originate from planet Earth. For you we dug though mountains of old records and found the best ones that are still working.“
Something compells Vash to stop here. Maybe he is curious about Earth Music or maybe he knows this station from Before.
„Let's start the second half of the show with Let It Happen by Jimmy Eat World. Shame that this band is over 400 years old. I doubt they will release any new albums any time soon!“
Only two seconds in and the hairs on Vash's arm are standing straight up.
He knows that song.
He knows that song.
He knows that song.
Before he realises it he finds himself singing along as if he has heard this song dozens of times.
He probably Has.
How?
Vash immediately gets his tablet out and looks the band up. He finds a couple of videos that are mostly all in garbage audio quality, which is to be expected cuz this is Old. Hundreds of years old. But they all paint a very clear picture.
He knows those songs. He finds himself humming along to most of them. Even a few suggested songs sound extremely familar to him.
Someone is banging on his door.
„Oh my god was that Jimmy Eat World? I love them! My favourite band says they were their inspiration!“
It's Chelsea. Her banging is very insistent. So Vash sighs and gets up from his bed to open the door.
Chelsea almost falls over herself and stumbles into his room.
„Wow theres absolutely nothing in here!“ she exclaims in genuine shock.
„Uhm.. I mean.. I just moved here.“
Vash rubs his neck. Is that really that weird?
„Okay yeah but when I came here I brought my posters and my Pinky Dolls rug and my laptop and my books and my plushies and my magazines and my lifesize sized cardboard cutout of Johnny Death which I made myself.“
„Who.. who's Johnny Death? Anyway, I don't have any of these things. Coma, remember?“
Chelsea lets out a gasp.
„Ohmygodicantbelieveyoudontknowwhojohnnydeathis! He's the frontman of Bloody Samurai, one of my favourite bands! He's soooooooooooo cute and dreamy! I have loved him ever since I saw the music video for As Blood Rained From The Sky and he was looking into the camera all drenched in fake blood and looking so soft. Once at a concert he looked at me!“
Before Vash can say anything Chelsea has taken out her phone and is scrolling through various pictures.
„Look! Look, that's him!“
Vash is staring at a guy with black straight hair down to his shoulders and so much black makeup he looks like a panda. He's making a face like someone disturbed him from a super comfy nap.
„Isn't he cute?“
He looks like he kicks puppies as a hobby, but Vash knows he can't say that.
The next picture is of the same guy, shirtless this time, drenched in fake blood and clinging to himself while looking dramatically at the camera. He also has a buttload of tattoos, most of them black. The panda makeup is not present so he looks like a human person actually.
„He's so hot, isn't he?“
Chelsea is swooning.
He's as hot as a featherless chicken shortly before it gets cooked, but Vash knows he Also can't say that.
He opts for the diplomatic answer.
„That is a lot of pictures you have of him. You obviously love him very much.“
Chelsea nods so fast that Vash is worried she might dislocate her neck or something.
Then she suddenly stops and looks at her phone in shock.
„Oh would you look at the time! I would love to stay longer but I'm meeting with the girlies. We wanna hang out at West Dunes Park and harass some old people.“
She giggles.
„Just joking! We just hang out at the playground and listen to music. Anyway, you really need some decorations in here though. Something that reflects your personality. We had a guy here whose room was totally empty even after half a year and that was so creepy. Hopefully you're not as creepy. Like, that guy had no personality I swear. Well, I gotta go know. See you later!“
And there she goes, leaving Vash even more confused than before.

The text of the letter and names of the celebrities that signed it under the cut.
"October 23, 2023
Dear President Biden,
We are heartened by Friday’s release of the two American hostages, Judith Ranaan and her daughter Natalie Ranaan and by today’s release of two Israelis, Nurit Cooper and Yocheved Lifshitz, whose husbands remain in captivity.
But our relief is tempered by our overwhelming concern that 220 innocent people, including 30 children, remain captive by terrorists, threatened with torture and death. They were taken by Hamas in the savage massacre of October 7, where over 1,400 Israelis were slaughtered - women raped, families burned alive, and infants beheaded.
Thank you for your unshakable moral conviction, leadership, and support for the Jewish people, who have been terrorized by Hamas since the group’s founding over 35 years ago, and for the Palestinians, who have also been terrorized, oppressed, and victimized by Hamas for the last 17 years that the group has been governing Gaza.
We all want the same thing: Freedom for Israelis and Palestinians to live side by side in peace. Freedom from the brutal violence spread by Hamas. And most urgently, in this moment, freedom for the hostages.
We urge everyone to not rest until all hostages are released. No hostage can be left behind. Whether American, Argentinian, Australian, Azerbaijani, Brazilian, British, Canadian, Chilean, Chinese, Danish, Dutch, Eritrean, Filipino, French, German, Indian, Israeli, Italian, Kazakh, Mexican, Panamanian, Paraguayan, Peruvian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, South African, Spanish, Sri Lankan, Thai, Ukrainian, Uzbekistani or otherwise, we need to bring them home.
Sincerely,

Chapter 200 Trivia (Part 1)
The Perseus is back!
There is oil in the Amazon, but the main sources of it are upstream of Manaus and northeastern Argentina, accounting for ~1.12% of current worldwide shares. I'm not sure whether or not this is accessible to the KoS right now, but Chelsea's statement seems incorrect.
Compared to "future energies" such as solar and wind power, biofuel is a little more controversial due to its industrial sources, deforestation, and the fact it can still pollute like a fossil fuel when burnt. It isn't as bad fossil fuels though, biogas burns cleaner.
Senku struggles to lift heavy objects, but then raises the contents of the outhouse above his head…
Biofuel is made basically exactly as Senku says, by mixing any organic waste products together and letting it ferment (anaerobic digestion if you want to be technical), then collecting the gas as energy and using the leftover solids as fertiliser.
If that explanation is still confusing, the whole process is basically like how your body works: you eat food, your stomach digests it and absorbs the energy, then any waste product is disposed of.
The only difference is there's no real body to fuel, you simply store the energy.
Since the biofuel is a gas, it needs to be converted to a liquid for transportation and use in engines. This is what the Fischer–Tropsch process is for.
The process itself involves fixing the hydrogen to carbon monoxide ratio, then applying heat and pressure to get liquid fuel.
The spherical gas container is called a Horton sphere, and what Senku says is correct, so the only thing missing is a video because everyone loves explosions.
This is a oxyhydrogen torch which is normally used for small-scale welding jobs as it's safer and more economical to use than gas torches.
You can also make them yourself.
Has Chrome's science-using officially leveled up? He's been working with Xeno while Senku works with Suika. The science mentor/mentee parallel here is really nice!
Inconel is actually a family of superalloys of oxidation-corrosion-resistant materials that are also very strong and very good at holding up to high temperatures. As such, it tends to be used in extreme environments like space.
"It's just a rock" is a common theme in Dr. Stone, but it matches the series extremely well. A single rock can't do much on its own, but with a little work and some team-ups, that rock can go to space :)
Since the calendar is between Chrome saying "half a year" and what looks like a time skip sequence, I think the date of April 5750 is somewhere in the middle rather than on either end, which isn't very helpful for a specific timeline.
This timeskip mimics the one in chapter 99 while they made the old Perseus, but is a lot shorter to add in the team and farewell portion of chapter 100.
Like last time, Ryusui helps with the design, Kaseki does the crafting (the part he's working on is the prow), while everyone else collects materials.
We also get the South American KoS flag, incorporating the spaceship with the concentric diamonds!
The engine here is a jet engine, Most commonly used in airplanes but have other uses as well. For this, the engine is usually used to generate electricity which then powers other things, such as boat propellers attached to electric motors.

The damallsvenskan awards was actually great fun to watch! Nothing like the stiff tv-galas. Much player interaction and some fun competitions. Pernille made a cameo appearance via a pre-recorded video message and some of the swedes playing abroad, the Chelsea trio included, also contributed with some stuff. Some english spoken too by some of the league's foreign players
Oh and they said the jury had consisted of 50 people. All awards but the goal of the year and hat trick of the year, plus the youth players choice for role model, were decided by them

Supporters of #NoHostageLeftBehind Open Letter to Joe Biden - Part 1/2
The letter consists of lies, no mention of Palestinian genocides, and a call for ceasefire.
Read the full letter:
Dear President Biden,
We are heartened by Friday's release of the two American hostages, Judith Ranaan and her daughter Natalie Ranaan [Raanan] and by today's release of two Israelis, Nurit Cooper and Yocheved Lifshitz, whose husbands remain in captivity.
But our relief is tempered by our overwhelming concern that 220 innocent people, including 30 children, remain captive by terrorists, threatened with torture and death. They were taken by Hamas in the savage massacre of October 7, where over 1,400 Israelis were slaughtered—women raped, families burned alive, and infants beheaded.
Thank you for your unshakable moral conviction, leadership, and support for the Jewish people, who have been terrorized by Hamas since the group's founding over 35 years ago, and for the Palestinians, who have also been terrorized, oppressed, and victimized by Hamas for the last 17 years that the group has been governing Gaza.

I got sucked into that Roxane Gay nemesis twitter thread and I can't get out because everyone keeps it going and guessing.
She has said so far that it is neither Lena Dunham nor Mindy Kaling.
She has said that her nemesis is "an actress who has also written a memoir and is popular but not ultra famous" and someone whom she "grudgingly respects".
So far the guesses for who her nemesis is are:
Ali Wong Anna Kendrick Lauren Graham Tiffany Haddish Anne Hathaway Judy Greer Camryn Manheim (though the tweeter misspelled her name) Busy Phillipps Tiffany Amber Theissen Aisha Tyler Phoebe Robinson Amy Poehler Sally Field Betty White Olivia Munn Tina Fey "the actress from sisterhood of the traveling pants" Chelsea Handler Ellie Kemper Stacey Dash Shonda Rhimes Gabrielle Union Padma Lakshmi Leah Remini Tyler Perry (but he had previously been named an nemesis apparently, as has Rachel Maddow and CrossFit?) Candace Cameron Bure Selma Blair Betty Gilpin Rose McGowan Cicely Tyson Jennifer Lewis Taraji P. Henson Viola Davis Reese Witherspoon Mayim Bialik Quinta Brunson Zooey Deschanel Casey Wilson Kristin Chenoweth Margaret Cho Dita Von Teese Portia de Rossi Jenna Fischer Drew Barrymore Jennette McCurdy Carrie Brownstein
I feel like this says more about the people who follow and like Roxane Gay on twitter more than about her.

I’ll be there for you (Yes, like the Friends theme) Chapter 6
Summary: After being in a coma for two years Vash wakes up, not being able to remember Anything that has happened since he was “a teenager”. How is he gonna adapt to living in a world so strange and unfamilliar? (vaguely TriStamp timeline post ep 12) By watching a weird action movie and doing nordic walking. Warnings: None Word count: 4.1k Chapters: 1 2 3 4 5
Meeting the psychologist was relatively unspectacular.
Her office is in the hallway of group 3 as well and has a small space for couches and a bookshelf, kinda like a waiting room at the doctor's office.
Her name is Mrs. Fischer and for now she just wanted to get to know Vash better. Which was interesting since Vash barely knows himself.
„Sounds like a great goal for your rehab then! Getting to know yourself more. Im gonna write this down right now.“
Lunch was a bit awkward at first cuz Chelsea immediately yelled, before Vash could even sit down at the table: „Wait! How is he supposed to cut his meat? Should I cut it for you? I can do that!“
And then Vash had to awkwardly wiggle himself out of this but Nancy thankfully intervened.
„I'm just gonna call Villa Peony and ask if they got some cutlery left we can borrow and then later order our own. Oh man I can't believe I forgot to do that the whole time...“ In the hospital the nurses already cut his food before he got it which truthfully made him feel like he's already thousand years old and grey.
But he felt equally awkward when Nancy eventually returned and handed him a fork that was also a knife.
All while Chelsea was basically frothing at the mouth and vibrating on her chair from wanting to cut his food so badly.
Vash figured he would eventually get used to this and it was a hundred times better than having someone else cut his food. He wasn't a toddler anymore. And not an old man yet either.
Once Chelsea had calmed down lunch resumed like normal.
Steven asking Vash polite questions about himself and sharing a bit of additional information about everything that was going on today.
Melvin then told everything there was to tell about Deinocheirus.
This wasn't really something anyone else on the table was interested in but everyone nodded along anyway.
Physical therapy was quite okay.
Mr. Cruz („Oh no, please just call me Diego!“) had to admit that he didn't really had much experience with amputees but he would try his best to find some exercises that Vash can do.
He did however note that Vash's amputation must've been some time ago.
Since Vash's memories cut off at 15 and at that point he still had both arms it must've been after that but before he was done growing.
For today Diego showed Vash some balance exercises since Vash said he felt unsteady sometimes.
He wasn't really used to almost a whole arm missing and even though he obviously had mastered Walking In A Straight Line by now he couldn't balance on one foot.
Or stand with his eyes closed. Or put more weight onto one foot than the other without almost falling over to the side.
Diego also wanted Vash to build up strength on his left arm again so he tied one end of a rubber band around it and the other end around a balancing pole on the wall and told him to pull it back.
Vash felt a bit stupid doing that.
„I can't use my left arm much anyway. Why do I have to train it?“
„Because it's still your arm even if there's less of it. Also it's not just the arm there's also the entire shoulder and shoulder blade and your back. And it would look weird if one arm is muscular and one arm is skinny. But mostly it's because you will find uses for your left arm and it needs to be up for the task. I can tell that before your coma you were really fit and strong. That includes your left arm. Let's see if we can go back to that level.“
Whatever Vash had looked like before he now was rather skinny without either much fat nor muscle mass to him. Which is something that Diego expected.
How was he supposed to put on weight if he couldn't eat or muscles if he wasn't able to move?
Vash only remembered himself as being on the more skinny side so he had no idea what his adult body Used to look like.
He can't imagine himself looking any different than this.
And now he's back in his room splashing water in his face and hoping that he manages to cool down a bit before nordic walking.
Melvin, who has the room to the left, is listening loudly to music. Techno, or something.
Vash still needs to listen to more music to get a solid grasp on all the different kinds there are.
To the right of him is Steven's room who either isn't around right now or just super quiet.
He seems like someone who is just very quiet though.
He is also the oldest in group, having turned 35 just last week.
Then counter clockwise there is Anna's room who managed to not say a single word so far and then Chelsea's room.
When Vash came back from physical therapy he heard her talking to someone on the phone but now there also was silence.
The music stops. Melvin is walking around in his room.
And then gunshots but in very low audio quality.
Seems like he's playing a game now.
At least Vash Hopes that the noises come from a game.
Vash looks out of his window.
From here he really cannot see any desert, just buildings and trees everywhere.
It's as if he's in an entirely different world now.
The window is slightly open and a warm breeze is coming in but its not hot by any means. Vash cannot smell any sand in the air either.
His dorm is standing right next to the fence so he can see into the backyard of a house that doesn't belong to the organisation grounds.
He can see the building of the fire brigade. Further back there's a rather high apartment building, towering over the sea of small family homes and row houses.
Vash can also see the church way back.
Earlier he also heard its bells.
He has never been to church, as far as he knows and doesn't really believe in anything
and yet the bells had felt strangely familiar.
If he leans a lot to the right he can catch a glimpse of the electricity poles above the train tracks in the distance.
Trains are another thing he has never seen before.
According to Steven they are really new though. They showed up first when he himself was still a kid and then gained growing popularity in the past 5 years as a more reliable and faster alternative to the aging sand steamers.
Each sand steamer needs to be powered by a plant so only a very limited number can be produced and they can't operate as frequent as trains either in order to not to stress the plants too much while trains have none of these limitations.
Yeah they can carry fewer people each but unlike sand steamers they can go nonstop and several trains can be put on the same route so in the long run their capacity is dozens of times larger.
A sand steamer needs up to 4 days to cross the sand ocean while a train does it in one and a half so the remaining sand steamers are slowly being phased out in favour of trains.
Even busses seem like a more viable alternative despite taking just as long.
At least they dont use up all the plants.
„There will always be some sand steamers, I guess,“ Steven had said „Just for nostalgia's sake and also because they have become such an iconic image. But they will probably be used as tourist attractions and run on historic lines instead.“
So what should Vash do with his time now?
He has a tablet and a phone but it seems that many others here have a TV and consoles or a laptop and such things.
Or they collect other things to occupy themselves with when there's nothing to do.
Melvin told Vash after lunch about a few stores that are within walking distance and he mentioned an electronics store so maybe once Vash has gotten a bit of money he should pay it a visit. Someone knocks on Vash's door.
„Yo Vash it's me, Chelsea! We got nordic walking now! Come downstairs!“
Vash jolts.
Wow he really got into deep thought here for a bit. How did an hour pass this fast?
He quickly changes T shirts and then hurries downstairs.
Funnily, the nordic walking group is led by Mrs. Fischer.
Chelsea spots Vash and then drags him further outside into the frontyard.
Several others are already here and looking for the right walking sticks.
„Mrs. Fischer! Mrs. Fischer! How is Vash gonna do this?“ Mrs. Fischer looks up from helping someone else picking out the right equipment and putting it on.
Vash really doesn't like being in the spotlight like this.
Luckily most others don't care about The New Guy.
„Ah well we can just put the sling around your arm and make sure its nice and tight. And we just use the longest stick for your left arm then and a shorter one for your right. And then we'll see if that works out for you and if not then we will find another solution.“ Mrs. Fischer explains while doing exactly that.
„So how does that feel for you?“ „Odd.“ Vash answers „But I have no idea what its supposed to feel like so I guess thats normal.“
„Let's find out then!“
Mrs. Fischer then explains Vash what he has to do while helping him with his right-hand stick.
How walking can be so complicated is beyond him but who knows, maybe this ends up being fun for him? At least its outside and he has been itching to move around more which wasn't a possibility in the hospital.
„Okay now guys! Is everyone here? Where's Joe?“
Mrs. Fischer does a quick roll call.
Turns out, everyone is here except for Joe which no one has seen since lunch.
Mrs. Fischer lets out a sigh.
„We can't wait until His Highness graces us with his presence or we'll be standing here all day. Let's go! We take the route around the biodome today.“
To his great dismay, Vash has to quickly realise that whatever stamina he might have had before, there is not much left of it now.
It takes about two minutes until he's already sweating and it's not the heat of the two suns for once.
Two more minutes and he's lightly panting and to make matters even worse the road goes slightly uphill now.
He's almost at the end of the group, only a handful others are slower than him.
Chelsea joins yet again.
„Huh? You're so skinny I thought you would be way ahead of us.“
„I was in a coma for two years..“ Vash wheezes.
„Ah that explains a lot. I'm just really out of shape cuz I hate sports. 'But Chelsea' they say 'It will be so amazing for your mental health if you're outside more often.' they say. Blaaaaaargh.“
She badly mimicks Mrs. Fischer.
Can't be That out of shape if she can manage to talk so much without even breaking into sweat, Vash thinks.
They are out of the residential area mostly. Only a few houses here and there. The majority is pastures for Thomases and „fields“ where people try to grow grass until the soil is fertile enough to grow other things.
Then they arrive at the biodome which is an absolute massive structure that sticks out like a sore thumb between all the other more organic buildings and fields.
Vash can't see inside from here but he notices that the air around it seems so much cleaner than before. There's also a faint sweet smell, like flowers.
Well, there probably Are flowers inside so that explains it.
They pass the biodome after a minute and the air that was clear and cool now turns warm and a bit stuffy again.
Like a room that needs to be aired out badly.
But by far not as bad as the middle of the desert.
Vash remembers that sometimes when he was outside for too long he would blow his nose and find sand in the tissue.
Sand in his clothes. His hair. His room. His bed.
„I really wanna work at the biodome!“
Vash looks back at Chelsea.
„I always wanted to work at one. Maybe I can do an internship there. I keep forgetting to ask about it though. This one even has animals like cows and sheep!“
The good thing about Chelsea is that Vash doesn't need to verbally answer, just nod, so he can focus on breathing and not keeling over from the exertion.
„I worked at a Thomas ranch once but that wasn't quite the same and it was outside of the city and taking the bus there took so long I had to get up at 5am and was home around 6. Ugh... The Thomases were really cute though but one bit me once.“
Yeah, they tend to do that sometimes.
At least now its going downhill for a bit.
Mrs. Fischer has noticed that Vash is having trouble keeping up with the majority of the flock so she falls back a bit to meet up with him.
„Is everything alright with you?“
„Yeah..“ Vash says, clearly still out of breath, „I'm just really out of shape.“
Something is coming up in the back of his mind.
The sensation of sand going up to his ankles and walking for hours until the suns go down. Boots slowly filling up with sand. Casually talking to someone next to him as if this isn't one of the most exhausting things someone can do.
If he was able to do this before the coma he clearly couldn't do it now anymore.
At least for the time being.
„Just focus on breathing. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. Keep a steady rhythm when walking. Maybe sing your favourite song in your head. We are taking the shorter route as well today and will be back soon.“
Once they are back Vash definitely needs to take a shower first.
And then find something to eat.
It takes another ten minutes to get back to the dorm and when they do Vash is ready to collapse there and then.
„Did you have fun?“ Mrs. Fischer asks.
„I don't know yet.“ Vash wheezes.
Two hours later and he has showered and eaten something and feels somewhat alive again.
Now Vash is lying on his bed and contemplating on what to do. How to spend the rest of his day.
Some people from his dorm, including Melvin and Anna, have gone to the local burger place in the neighbourhood but Vash doesn't have any money yet so he couldn't go.
The suns are already low above the horizon and douse the room in a warm orange colour.
Now that its getting cooler outside Vash could open his window fully and a nice breeze is coming in.
Some people from another dorm can be heard playing football outside.
Leaves are rustling in the breeze, which is a noise Vash still isn't used to.
Another noise he is even less used to is birdsong.
There's a bird sitting on the windowsill of the neighbour's house and singing it's little heart out.
Another bird from a bit further away answers.
Vash can also hear the faint rumbling of cars and someone is really revving their engine.
Someone is starting to mow their lawn.
There are so many noises going on at once.
And they are completely different from the hospital.
All those noises sounded hectic and unnatural.
And on the ship were barely any noises at all.
The machines were quiet the computers were quiet the Plants were quiet and even the people mostly talked in hushed voices. Luida and Brad were the two only ones who were openly loud and made attempts to make the place feel alive.
This changed when they got the first geodome going and also managed to get more people out of their cryosleep and some of these people were kids who looked like they were as old as Vash.
Or rather, he looked as if he was as old as them.
Things got a lot more lively on the ship then. The kids didn't even care that Vash was growing faster than them. They called him Brother.
They would play hide and seek together and tag and pick flowers and draw things and Luida would read stories for them under the trees even when Vash already could read himself.
Vash blinks.
He wonders what happened then. What happened and why did he leave the ship and how did he get here?
Someone is driving by on a motorcycle and somehow that piques his interest for some reason.
Does he have a connection to bikes?
„Jesus Christ, Spikey! You never got car sick so why does my bike suddenly make you throw up?“
„Maybe if you wouldn't drive like you drank all the whiskey on the planet I wouldn't be sick.“
„Well, do it yourself then. Let's see how that turns out.“
Huh. Where did that come from?
It certainly snapped Vash out of getting homesick, that's for sure.
Playing with the kids in the biodome feels like it was basically yesterday but also eons in the past.
After all, it was indeed almost 150 years ago.
There's so much stuff to catch up on.
For example, who was that guy in this sudden flash of memory? Is he still alive? It seemed like he was close enough to Vash that they could just bicker like that. They probably had spend a significant amount of time together.
What was his name...? Something.. with an animal. There was an animal in his name...
Someone suddenly knocks on the door.
„Hey Vash it's me, Melvin! Wanna watch a movie? You shouldn't be all alone in your room when you're new. Too many thoughts and all.“
Well, he is not wrong.
So Vash gets up again and decides that watching a movie doesn't sound so bad.
The living room is a slightly musty-smelling room with big windows a large table in the back a few cupboards with books and games in them and of course a large L-shaped couch a coffee table and a TV.
Boxes with fries and burgers are scattered across the coffee table. So are a few big cola bottles and red plastic cups.
Everyone from Vash's group is there plus a few from the other two groups.
One of them is lazily sprawled out in front of the TV and eating fries.
He has blue hair and for a second an exclamation mark goes off in Vash's head but vanishes immediately again.
„Just get cozy anywhere. We thought we bring burgers and stuff for everyone and have a nice movie night.“ Melvin explains.
Vash sits down next to Steven and feels a bit.. misplaced.
He never watched a movie. Well, as far as he can remember, which doesn't say much.
When was the last time Vash had a burger?
He and Nai had them for their first birthday and Luida also made them a few times but not very often.
Vash grabs a box and takes the burger out and takes a bite.
Huh that tastes totally different than the ones Luida made.
It tastes.. a lot better.
Not that Luida's were bad but this has much more flavour.
„I got my hands on the new Revengeancers movie. Has anyone seen that already?“ Melvin asks.
Everyone shakes their heads.
Steven groans.
„I was hoping you had a Good movie or something. I heard that one is pretty dumb.“
„Oh I'm so sorry, I will get one about quantum physics just for you.“
A few people giggle and Steven groans again.
„Just... just put it on. I will survive.“
Ten minutes into the movie as Vash unwraps and chomps down on his third burger (double cheese double beef) the blue-haired guy turns around and stares suspiciously at him.
„Hmm..?“
Did he eat too much? Vash is surprised himself. He already ate dinner two hours ago and now he basically inhaled three burgers in barely ten minutes.
But that's not the reason the guy is staring.
„You look familiar. You look like Vash the Stampede.“
Now Everyone has turned around and stares at Vash.
„He sure does!!“ Chelsea yells and takes out her phone and then basically smooshes Vash's face with it.
„Look! Look!“
There's a wanted poster on the display. It already looks a bit yellowed and faded but it unmistakenly says „Vash the Stampede Dead or Alive 60,000,000,000$$“ Vash counts the zeroes.
„60 Billion???“ he exclains in shock.
„Yup. Levelled the entire city of July. It's a miracle anyone survived.“ Chelsea confirms.
„My uncle lives in one of the towns surrounding July and he said that night it looked like a spiral of bright light was going up to the sky and then a ball of the same light fell down and it was like ten thousand suns. And once the light was gone the city was gone with it.“
Vash can just blink in horror.
That was supposed to be him? Why would he destroy an entire city? He's not a villain!
The blue haired guy chimes in again.
„But it makes no sense. Why would he have done that?“ Yeah, exactly!
The guy digs in his pockets and also digs out a phone and shows everyone a photo. It looks even older than the one Chelsea has.
„My grandpa met Vash! About 40 or so years ago. He helped digging a well in his village so they wouldn't have to rely on other towns for water.“
On the photo was unmistakenly Vash standing next to a tall lanky guy with a ponytail in front of a well. Vash was flashing a peace sign and grinning.
„Huh? 40 years ago? Wouldn't Vash be like... 60 or whatever now?“ Melvin asks.
Everyone looks back at Vash who's just sitting there.
„You don't like 60. You look like... 22 or something.“
Vash rubs the back of his head nervously. Oh man, this is awkward.
„Well... ahah... ha... I suppose that could be me though. I don't think Vash is a super common name. But it can't remember anything past being 15.“ Chelsea scoots closer, so close that she's almost sitting on his lap now and stares at him.
„There is No Way that you are 60.“
Vash lifts his hand so she can't get even closer.
„I.. I have no explanation for this that doesn't sound insane. But I am a Plant.“
It's not like he could've hidden that forever. Better to say it right away. Then either everyone knows or nobody will believe him, think he's completely out there and beyond help and he has made his life here utter hell.
Silence.
„Yeah sure. And I got a secret identity as a pop star. The name Chelsea is fake and I'm actually Tara Olson from November City and the leader of the girl group Twinkle Star.“
Steven who had been silent the entire time now gently pushes Chelsea away and also gets closer to Vash.
„It's not like we can't see for ourselves if he's lying or not. My father is a Plant Specialist and says there's a foolproof way to find out.“
And sure enough, he's shining his way too bright phone LED directly into Vash's eyes.
Everyone gasps.
Vash can only assume what they are seeing. He actually has never seen the markings in his eyes himself. For all he knows they could be spelling „Fuck you“.
„Holy shit what?? He's really a Plant!“ Melvin screams.
„Whooooooaaaaaaaaah....“
Chelsea wants to creep closer again but Steven holds her back.
„He's not some zoo animal you can just gawk at. Have some manners.“
Steven puts his phone back.
„So. This proves that he's saying the truth. Can we now focus on the movie?“
„Huuuuuuuh? But I have so many questions!“
„And I want to watch that movie now, so quiet please.“
Vash will be eternally grateful to Steven for keeping everyone from bombarding him with questions he probably wouldn't have an answer to.

Chapter 200 Trivia (Part 2)
(Previous part)
Xenobucks is a parody of Starbucks, and what they're drinking is definitely coffee. Brazil produces about a third of the world's total coffee coffee, and is a significant industry across most of South America.
Team 1 is Xeno, Maya, Tsukasa, Matsukaze and Ginro. Xeno is needed to lead it, and Maya staying probably means the rest of the Americans are too. Tsukasa, Matsukaze and Ginro are likely there to ensure Xeno doesn't do anything too evil.
Matsukaze's scar is also gone!
Team 2 is Taiju, Hyoga, Ukyo, Luna, Carlos and Max. Luna's presence may mean that Senku expects they'll need medical help, while Taiju will finally get to reunite with Yuzuriha and become the farmer king again.
Hyoga will probably be the main hunter on the journey as we've seen him do these last few chapters, then will stay with Homura and Moz.
Max and Carlos are there because Luna is.
Ukyo is interesting as he's the only Wise General not with the main group. My theories are he's there to captain the boat for the journey (if they use one) and to ensure better American-Japanese communication to set up the city.
The main group is Senku, Gen, Kaseki, Ryusui, Francois, Chelsea, Suika, Kohaku and Chrome. Most choices I think are fairly obviously done, but the most important ones will be Chelsea once they reach land, and Francois if they decide to journey to a French-speaking country.
Kohaku is the only major fighter with team 1, but we don't know if Suika's learnt new skills whilst surviving in one of the most deadly places on Earth…
The layout on the deck of the new Perseus is very similar to the old one, but the sail has been replaced with the biogas fuel plant. The large containers are probably the digesters, storage, and the tanks for the Fischer-Tropsch process.
The paint at the front seems to be mimicking petrification scars, but the design itself is quite generic. It could be Ryusui's as from certain angles they have the same zig-zag shape, but I'm not sure.
If they add more lines it might be effective as dazzle camouflage.
20 knots is the average speed of a modern cruise ship, but those tend to have a higher horsepower (~50k), meaning this ship isn't on the same scale yet.
Chrome's been collecting rocks his whole life and no one really understood the importance of it until Senku came along…
Do you think Xeno gets confused by the fact that his name is probably written on the cup in a traditional Starbucks way, but it's also the name of the "brand"?

What I love about these press conferences (and player video interviews) is that anons can't twist words and force their own narrative on others and make it a "truth". It's like source critique to watch what was actually said and form an own opinion.
Regarding how Peter reasons, he has often said they think more short term than people believe. It's really what's needed for the next game(s), what abilities do we need against in this case first the Swiss than the Italians. He has also said he doesn't care about age in any direction and he has proven it through the years. He wants the best players available and also calls up younger players they believe much in like Hanna Lundkvist, Bennison, Kafaji and Vinberg. And when he didn't think Lindahl was good enough anymore he didn't call her up anymore. The players themselves, Fischer for example, have said old merits don't get you anywhere with Peter. You need to perform for your club team.
Consistency is even more important in a national team than a club team for the obvious reason they have so little time together. 4 trainings and then it's gameday, last time they were gathered were 1 month ago. Sometimes they've had as few as 2 days before gameday. How do people think Chelsea, Bayern, Arsenal, Wolfsburg, Juventus, Barcelona, Lyon, Psg and so on would do under the same circumstances with being apart for 1 month, then have 2-4 days of trainings and team meetings before kick off? We already know how horrible the first league games back after an international break are and then the club teams have only been apart for 1-1,5 week...
yea when it comes to managers he's probably the one in international football I trust the most with these picking the right players for what the situation entails and at the moment the goal right now is to get out of this break with 6 points and hopefully a decent goal difference to go into the December window with some chance of somehow qualifying for the next round
