DeepL Voice eliminates these barriers by offering high-quality, real-time translation, reducing the likelihood of miscommunication and enhancing team collaboration.
DeepL: A Leader in Language AI Innovation
Founded in 2017, DeepL has quickly established itself as a trusted provider of language solutions, now used by over 100,000 businesses, including half of the Fortune 500. DeepL’s Language AI platform, known for its accuracy and enterprise-grade security, is built on proprietary language models fine-tuned over years to handle complex linguistic nuances. Today, the platform serves clients across 228 markets, providing them with tools for both written and spoken language needs.

This model, built on DeepL’s proprietary data, is optimized for fewer edits, further enhancing productivity for enterprise users.
Integrating DeepL Voice in Global Operations: Key Use Cases
With its versatility, DeepL Voice has numerous applications across various business sectors:
Global Team Meetings: Virtual meetings can now include participants speaking different languages, enabling a more inclusive environment where everyone can fully engage.
Frontline Customer Service: Customer-facing employees, especially in retail, healthcare, and hospitality, can now offer support in the language most comfortable for each customer, enhancing service quality and customer loyalty.
Manufacturing and Safety Operations: Real-time voice translation allows employees in high-stakes environments to understand critical information without delay, reducing the risks associated with miscommunication.
DeepL’s Broader Impact on Language and Communication
DeepL Voice represents more than just a product launch; it is a significant milestone in DeepL’s mission to eliminate language barriers worldwide. By enabling instant multilingual communication, DeepL Voice empowers businesses to leverage their global talent, foster stronger relationships, and expand into new markets. From multinational corporations to government agencies, DeepL’s language AI tools are designed to streamline operations, improve productivity, and enhance communication across diverse workforces.
What’s Next for DeepL?
DeepL’s journey in language technology is far from over. The company is continuously expanding its capabilities, with plans to introduce additional languages and advanced AI features in future releases. With the next-generation large language model already outperforming industry giants, DeepL is poised to set new standards in the field, offering tools that not only translate but truly bridge gaps in human communication.
Summary

Google’s Multimodal AI Gemini – A Technical Deep Dive
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/googles-multimodal-ai-gemini-a-technical-deep-dive/
Google’s Multimodal AI Gemini – A Technical Deep Dive
Sundar Pichai, Google’s CEO, along with Demis Hassabis from Google DeepMind, have introduced Gemini in December 2023. This new large language model is integrated across Google’s vast array of products, offering improvements that ripple through services and tools used by millions.
Gemini, Google’s advanced multimodal AI, is birthed from the collaborative efforts of the unified DeepMind and Brain AI labs. Gemini stands on the shoulders of its predecessors, promising to deliver a more interconnected and intelligent suite of applications.
The announcement of Google Gemini, nestled closely after the debut of Bard, Duet AI, and the PaLM 2 LLM, marks a clear intention from Google to not only compete but lead in the AI revolution.
Contrary to any notions of an AI winter, the launch of Gemini suggests a thriving AI spring, teeming with potential and growth. As we reflect on a year since the emergence of ChatGPT, which itself was a groundbreaking moment for AI, Google’s move indicates that the industry’s expansion is far from over; in fact, it may just be picking up pace.
What is Gemini?
Google’s Gemini model is capable of processing diverse data types such as text, images, audio, and video. It comes in three versions—Ultra, Pro, and Nano—each tailored for specific applications, from complex reasoning to on-device use. Ultra excels in multifaceted tasks and will be available on Bard Advanced, while Pro offers a balance of performance and resource efficiency, already integrated into Bard for text prompts. Nano, optimized for on-device deployment, comes in two sizes and features hardware optimizations like 4-bit quantization for offline use in devices like the Pixel 8 Pro.
Gemini’s architecture is unique in its native multimodal output capability, using discrete image tokens for image generation and integrating audio features from the Universal Speech Model for nuanced audio understanding. Its ability to handle video data as sequential images, interweaved with text or audio inputs, exemplifies its multimodal prowess.
Gemini supports sequences of text, image, audio, and video as inputs
Accessing Gemini
Gemini 1.0 is rolling out across Google’s ecosystem, including Bard, which now benefits from the refined capabilities of Gemini Pro. Google has also integrated Gemini into its Search, Ads, and Duet services, enhancing user experience with faster, more accurate responses.
For those keen on harnessing the capabilities of Gemini, Google AI Studio and Google Cloud Vertex offer access to Gemini Pro, with the latter providing greater customization and security features.
To experience the enhanced capabilities of Bard powered by Gemini Pro, users can take the following straightforward steps:
Navigate to Bard: Open your preferred web browser and go to the Bard website.
Secure Login: Access the service by signing in with your Google account, assuring a seamless and secure experience.
Interactive Chat: You can now use Bard, where Gemini Pro’s advanced features can be opted.
Power of Multimodality:
At its core, Gemini utilizes a transformer-based architecture, similar to those employed in successful NLP models like GPT-3. However, Gemini’s uniqueness lies in its ability to process and integrate information from multiple modalities, including text, images, and code. This is achieved through a novel technique called cross-modal attention, which allows the model to learn relationships and dependencies between different types of data.
Here’s a breakdown of Gemini’s key components:
Multimodal Encoder: This module processes the input data from each modality (e.g., text, image) independently, extracting relevant features and generating individual representations.
Cross-modal Attention Network: This network is the heart of Gemini. It allows the model to learn relationships and dependencies between the different representations, enabling them to “talk” to each other and enrich their understanding.
Multimodal Decoder: This module utilizes the enriched representations generated by the cross-modal attention network to perform various tasks, such as image captioning, text-to-image generation, and code generation.
Gemini model isn’t just about understanding text or images—it’s about integrating different kinds of information in a way that’s much closer to how we, as humans, perceive the world. For instance, Gemini can look at a sequence of images and determine the logical or spatial order of objects within them. It can also analyze the design features of objects to make judgments, such as which of two cars has a more aerodynamic shape.
But Gemini’s talents go beyond just visual understanding. It can turn a set of instructions into code, creating practical tools like a countdown timer that not only functions as directed but also includes creative elements, such as motivational emojis, to enhance user interaction. This indicates an ability to handle tasks that require a blend of creativity and functionality—skills that are often considered distinctly human.
Gemini’s capabilities : Spatial Reasoning (Source)
Gemini’s capabilities extend to executing programming tasks(Source)
Gemini sophisticated design is based on a rich history of neural network research and leverages Google’s cutting-edge TPU technology for training. Gemini Ultra, in particular, has set new benchmarks in various AI domains, showcasing remarkable performance lifts in multimodal reasoning tasks.
With its ability to parse through and understand complex data, Gemini offers solutions for real-world applications, especially in education. It can analyze and correct solutions to problems, like in physics, by understanding handwritten notes and providing accurate mathematical typesetting. Such capabilities suggest a future where AI assists in educational settings, offering students and educators advanced tools for learning and problem-solving.
Gemini’s has been leveraged to create agents like AlphaCode 2, which excels at competitive programming problems. This showcases Gemini’s potential to act as a generalist AI, capable of handling complex, multi-step problems.
Gemini Nano brings the power of AI to everyday devices, maintaining impressive abilities in tasks like summarization and reading comprehension, as well as coding and STEM-related challenges. These smaller models are fine-tuned to offer high-quality AI functionalities on lower-memory devices, making advanced AI more accessible than ever.
The development of Gemini involved innovations in training algorithms and infrastructure, using Google’s latest TPUs. This allowed for efficient scaling and robust training processes, ensuring that even the smallest models deliver exceptional performance.
The training dataset for Gemini is as diverse as its capabilities, including web documents, books, code, images, audio, and videos. This multimodal and multilingual dataset ensures that Gemini models can understand and process a wide variety of content types effectively.
Gemini and GPT-4
Despite the emergence of other models, the question on everyone’s mind is how Google’s Gemini stacks up against OpenAI’s GPT-4, the industry’s benchmark for new LLMs. Google’s data suggest that while GPT-4 may excel in commonsense reasoning tasks, Gemini Ultra has the upper hand in almost every other area.
Gemini VS GPT-4
The above benchmarking table shows the impressive performance of Google’s Gemini AI across a variety of tasks. Notably, Gemini Ultra has achieved remarkable results in the MMLU benchmark with 90.04% accuracy, indicating its superior understanding in multiple-choice questions across 57 subjects.
In the GSM8K, which assesses grade-school math questions, Gemini Ultra scores 94.4%, showcasing its advanced arithmetic processing skills. In coding benchmarks, with Gemini Ultra attaining a score of 74.4% in the HumanEval for Python code generation, indicating its strong programming language comprehension.
The DROP benchmark, which tests reading comprehension, sees Gemini Ultra again leading with an 82.4% score. Meanwhile, in a common-sense reasoning test, HellaSwag, Gemini Ultra performs admirably, though it does not surpass the extremely high benchmark set by GPT-4.
Conclusion
Gemini’s unique architecture, powered by Google’s cutting-edge technology, positions it as a formidable player in the AI arena, challenging existing benchmarks set by models like GPT-4. Its versions—Ultra, Pro, and Nano—each cater to specific needs, from complex reasoning tasks to efficient on-device applications, showcasing Google’s commitment to making advanced AI accessible across various platforms and devices.
The integration of Gemini into Google’s ecosystem, from Bard to Google Cloud Vertex, highlights its potential to enhance user experiences across a spectrum of services. Rebranding Yourself Online using ChatGPT
Summary from “Brand Aid: Taking control of your reputation before everyone else does” by Larry G Linne and Patrick Sitkins. This book is from the early 2010s so some things are outdated and not exactly applicable. It’s also a more corporate/ business focused book. I took away what i felt were the major lessons and were more applicable to young adults/ teens/ people on social media today (because social media in 2013 vs today is very different).
I also wanted to add my own input to the summary. I’ve added prompts for ChatGPT that you can use to help figure your personal brand out better.
When rebranding yourself online, I would highly recommend:
1. Archive all your personal Instagram account’s posts (if you have an online business, create a separate page and show very little of yourself). Remove all your stories and highlights. Deactivate your account for at least 8 months.
2. Spend the next 8 months building your social media strategy, your personal brand and reinventing yourself in any way and form you want to (mental, physical, spiritual, etc).
3. Use Pinterest and figure out a theme that defines you the best. Take a look at @mafeanzures
————————-
* A brand is what people think of you.
Questions to ask yourself:
1. What do you think other people think of you?
2. What personal attributes would you benefit from the most if those items were well known to everyone?
Question 1 and 2 in the next few prompts refers to these 2 questions.
ChatGPT prompts after you finish writing down the above answers:
“I want to develop my personal brand on instagram (or any one social media site at a time). Currently I’m seen as a (2 of the most negative qualities and 2 of the most positive qualities from question 1). I want to be seen as (4 of the most positive qualities from question 2). What should I do to be seen as that?”
This will give you a STRATEGY that you can further modify.
Now, ask the same question again but with one change:
“I want to develop my personal brand on instagram (or any one social media site at a time). Currently I’m seen as a (2 of the most negative qualities and 2 of the most positive qualities from question 1). I want to be seen as (4 of the most positive qualities from question 2). What should I post online to be seen as that?”
This will give you CONTENT that you should consider posting.
**
* It is very likely that if you are to meet someone new and you’re aware you’re going to meet them, you’ll check their social media out. Whether its LinkedIn, facebook, twitter, instagram… keep your online presence clean.
* Before you post ANYTHING online, ask yourself: “how will this affect my brand?” If you post a story about a nasty break up/ a friendship falling apart/ a negative restaurant review… how do you think other people will see you? Be extremely mindful of your brand and what you post online.
* Rather than the age old advice “just be yourself”, look at “just be your best self.”
**
7 steps to a great brand:
1. Write down what you think people think of you: both positive and negative
2. Determine your goals in life (career, family, etc). What brand items do you need to get there? For example, the brand item “intelligent” to move up the corporate ladder. What will you need in order to be perceived as intelligent?
3. Gap analysis: the difference between point 1 (current situation) and point 2 (desired situation).
4. Develop action items. For example, if you want to be seen as innovative at work, start bringing ideas to meetings.
5. Influences on your brand: your dress, style, voice tone and quality, health, recreation, the car you drive, social environments, where you live, the language you speak, the subjects of your conversations, social media postings all impact your brand.
6. List what you must do to protect your brand. For example: not drinking in public; dressing a certain way; etc.
7. Review every 6 months.
Ask ChatGPT: “I am (ethnicity) (gender), (age) years old based in (City, country). Currently I’m seen as a (2 of the most negative qualities and 2 of the most positive qualities from question 1). My viewers would mostly be people from (conservative/liberal/ rural/ urban/ define audience. In case there are two audience types, ask one at a time) backgrounds. I want to be seen as (4 of the most positive qualities from question 2). What behaviours should I not engage in?”
**
Using the power of “always”: 5 specific things you pride on yourself for doing regularly.
“I always take the time to be updated in my field of work.”
“I always volunteer every Sunday.”
**
Things to keep in mind:
A. Are you easy to find online?
B. Is your content consistent?
C. Do your pictures, videos convey your personal brand?
D. What will enhance your brand?
E. What will damage your brand?
Ask ChatGPT: “I want to develop my personal brand on instagram (or any one social media site at a time). Currently I’m seen as a (2 of the most negative qualities and 2 of the most positive qualities from question 1). I want to be seen as (4 of the most positive qualities from question 2). What can potentially damage my brand if I’m not careful?”
**
If you are willing to see what you are doing and saying on the front page of a newspaper tomorrow, proceed with it. If you wouldn’t want it on the front page of the newspaper, STOP immediately.
**
More things to keep in mind:
1. The internet amplifies everything
2. Context matters
3. Consistency is everything
4. Your “at home” brand is as important as “outside of home” brand

The European Union today agreed on the details of the AI Act, a far-reaching set of rules for the people building and using artificial intelligence. It’s a milestone law that, lawmakers hope, will create a blueprint for the rest of the world.
After months of debate about how to regulate companies like OpenAI, lawmakers from the EU’s three branches of government—the Parliament, Council, and Commission—spent more than 36 hours in total thrashing out the new legislation between Wednesday afternoon and Friday evening. Lawmakers were under pressure to strike a deal before the EU parliament election campaign starts in the new year.
“The EU AI Act is a global first,” said European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen on X. “[It is] a unique legal framework for the development of AI you can trust. And for the safety and fundamental rights of people and businesses.”
The law itself is not a world-first; China’s new rules for generative AI went into effect in August. But the EU AI Act is the most sweeping rulebook of its kind for the technology. It includes bans on biometric systems that identify people using sensitive characteristics such as sexual orientation and race, and the indiscriminate scraping of faces from the internet. Lawmakers also agreed that law enforcement should be able to use biometric identification systems in public spaces for certain crimes.
New transparency requirements for all general purpose AI models, like OpenAI's GPT-4, which powers ChatGPT, and stronger rules for “very powerful” models were also included. “The AI Act sets rules for large, powerful AI models, ensuring they do not present systemic risks to the Union,” says Dragos Tudorache, member of the European Parliament and one of two co-rapporteurs leading the negotiations.
Companies that don’t comply with the rules can be fined up to 7 percent of their global turnover. The bans on prohibited AI will take effect in six months, the transparency requirements in 12 months, and the full set of rules in around two years.
Measures designed to make it easier to protect copyright holders from generative AI and require general purpose AI systems to be more transparent about their energy use were also included.
“Europe has positioned itself as a pioneer, understanding the importance of its role as a global standard setter,” said European Commissioner Thierry Breton in a press conference on Friday night.
Over the two years lawmakers have been negotiating the rules agreed today, AI technology and the leading concerns about it have dramatically changed. When the AI Act was conceived in April 2021, policymakers were worried about opaque algorithms deciding who would get a job, be granted refugee status or receive social benefits. By 2022, there were examples that AI was actively harming people. In a Dutch scandal, decisions made by algorithms were linked to families being forcibly separated from their children, while students studying remotely alleged that AI systems discriminated against them based on the color of their skin.
Then, in November 2022, OpenAI released ChatGPT, dramatically shifting the debate. The leap in AI’s flexibility and popularity triggered alarm in some AI experts, who drew hyperbolic comparisons between AI and nuclear weapons.
That discussion manifested in the AI Act negotiations in Brussels in the form of a debate about whether makers of so-called foundation models such as the one behind ChatGPT, like OpenAI and Google, should be considered as the root of potential problems and regulated accordingly—or whether new rules should instead focus on companies using those foundational models to build new AI-powered applications, such as chatbots or image generators.
Representatives of Europe’s generative AI industry expressed caution about regulating foundation models, saying it could hamper innovation among the bloc’s AI startups. “We cannot regulate an engine devoid of usage,” Arthur Mensch, CEO of French AI company Mistral, said last month. “We don’t regulate the C [programming] language because one can use it to develop malware. Instead, we ban malware.” Mistral’s foundation model 7B would be exempt under the rules agreed today because the company is still in the research and development phase, Carme Artigas, Spain's Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, said in the press conference.
The major point of disagreement during the final discussions that ran late into the night twice this week was whether law enforcement should be allowed to use facial recognition or other types of biometrics to identify people either in real time or retrospectively. “Both destroy anonymity in public spaces,” says Daniel Leufer, a senior policy analyst at digital rights group Access Now. Real-time biometric identification can identify a person standing in a train station right now using live security camera feeds, he explains, while “post” or retrospective biometric identification can figure out that the same person also visited the train station, a bank, and a supermarket yesterday, using previously banked images or video.
Leufer said he was disappointed by the “loopholes” for law enforcement that appeared to have been built into the version of the act finalized today.
European regulators’ slow response to the emergence of social media era loomed over discussions. Almost 20 years elapsed between Facebook's launch and the passage of the Digital Services Act—the EU rulebook designed to protect human rights online—taking effect this year. In that time, the bloc was forced to deal with the problems created by US platforms, while being unable to foster their smaller European challengers. “Maybe we could have prevented [the problems] better by earlier regulation,” Brando Benifei, one of two lead negotiators for the European Parliament, told WIRED in July. AI technology is moving fast. But it will still be many years until it’s possible to say whether the AI Act is more successful in containing the downsides of Silicon Valley’s latest export.

Hello! Do you have any advice on getting into freelance coding or remote jobs in the field? I'm having trouble with my current endeavors of applications and my current customer service job isn't doing me well enough to want to stay, so I'm hoping for progress sooner rather than later. Anything helps, thank you!!
Hiya đź–¤
Thanks for reaching out with your question about getting into freelance coding or remote jobs. Making a transition can be challenging, but with dedication and strategic steps, you can definitely progress in your career.
Firstly, consider specializing in a specific field of computer science rather than trying to learn everything. This will help you become an expert in a niche, making you more attractive to potential clients or employers.
The big thing to look at is (1) what specific job do you want? Don't know yet? That's the first thing you need to find out. (2) Found the job you want? Go to this website "roadmap.sh" and click the job title you want and look at the roadmap to become it. (3) Have an idea of what you need to learn? Now study :)
Here are some extra key pieces of advice:
Public Code Repositories
Showcase your coding skills by contributing to public repositories on platforms like GitHub, GitLab, or others. This allows potential employers to see your projects and assess your coding abilities.
Online Certifications
Earn certifications from reputable online courses like Freecodecamp, Codecademy, or SheCodes (if you're a woman). Displaying these certifications on your LinkedIn profile adds credibility for remote work or even freelance work because then clients will trust your skills more if it's back up with evidence (projects and/or certificates).

LinkedIn Profile
Revamp your LinkedIn profile to reflect your job title. Use a title that aligns with your dream job, and highlight your skills, certifications, and projects. You don't even need work experience OR do what a lot of my developer mates do have no work experience and set your "job" as a self-employed freelance developer... little cheat there~!

Volunteering
Help someone out with a project for their business or whatever. For example, I helped a guy I met in a programming discord server build his portfolio page for free, but I care more about the experience. Search online for volunteer jobs with your dream job title e.g. Volunteer App Develope, but in your country would be better. The experience you can you can add to your LinkedIn. the project you work on you can add to your resume/experience.

Networking
Connect with professionals in your field on LinkedIn, even if you don't know them personally. Growing your network can open up opportunities and expose you to valuable insights. Events in person or online, servers (I found volunteer opportunities here), forums, Twitter (I found some mates on there), Instagram (another place I found developer friends). Networking can even help with building group projects~!

Project Building
Work on both small and big projects to demonstrate your capabilities. Highlight these projects on your resume and portfolio.

Online Presence
Share your learning progress and projects on various platforms like Tumblr, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, or YouTube. Employers often appreciate candidates who actively showcase their work and commitment to learning. I made a post for Tumblr coding blogs:

AI FOMO
A lot of "AI" content these days – where "AI" means machine learning trained on a large corpus of unstructured natural language to solve no specific task, with a prompt-based developer interface to allow building applications for any and every problem domain and also none in particular – is driven by fear of missing out, or FOMO. I am talking about content about AI.
It's not driven by a genuine need for "AI", which, again in this case usually means ChatGPT or something similar. I am not happy about this, but it's the nomenclature they use. There is no urgent problem that could not be solved before, that AI has now solved. Content about AI is also not disseminating new expert knowledge about prompt engineering or training methods. It's about a vague sense of unease about possibly being "left behind" in a world where all your colleagues are writing their e-mails by just giving a prompt to ChatGPT and copying and pasting, or asking ChatGPT so summarise what that e-mail they just got said. It's driven by a fear that there is a lot of "value" left on the table for people who don't automate their e-mail job.
Maybe that is a real problem. Instead of AI generated bullshit getting 100% automated, like all those "shrimp Jesus" facebook bots I read so much about, many e-mail jobs can be basically automated by copying and pasting text between your e-mail program and a language model, but you still need a warm body in a chair somewhere.
Isn't this odd? Language models and AI assistants are marketed to people who aren't tech-savvy, to people who don't even need these systems, by people who don't know how these systems work either. The articles have headlines like Ten ways you can incorporate AI into your work day. It's ingenious. There is no promise that this will make your life easier. There is no indication that the people who wrote it are experts. It's critic-proofed. Even if AI doesn't solve your problem, even if it doesn't make sense, even if I don't know what the hell I am talking about, here are ten things you can do with ChatGPT. Because it's the future. It's what's coming. Whether you need it or not.
Once you see the pattern, you can't unsee it: Here's how we use ChatGPT in the classroom. Here's how we asked Grok about political trends. Here's how an entrepreneur uses Copilot to generate business ideas.
So you talk to ChatGPT, because you don't want to miss out.

is quite a bit of evidence supporting the premise that, below the surface, the biggest drivers of new employment — online job listings — have become elaborate façades destined to cause more problems than they solve for those seeking work.Â
. . .
While this practice had been expanding for years, its true severity was not well understood until Clarify Capital released a September 2022 survey of 1,045 hiring managers that was the first to focus specifically on the topic of ghost jobs.
. . .
Then there are the scammers. With so much automation available, it’s become easier than ever for identity thieves to flood the employment market with their own versions of ghost jobs — not to make a real company seem like it’s growing or to make real employees feel like they’re under constant threat of being replaced, but to get practically all the personal information a victim could ever provide.
. . .
According to the FTC, there were more than five times as many fake job and “business opportunity” scams in 2023 as there were in 2018, costing victims nearly half a billion dollars in total. Technology is expanding the variety of possible con jobs with every passing year; today, with the rapid advancement and proliferation of AI-fueled deepfakes, not even video calls can provide reliable confirmation of who exactly is on the other end.
. . .
Finding work is becoming much more difficult, a trend that started at least as early as 2023, when the average “time-to-hire” across all sectors reached a record high of 44 days. LinkedIn reported in March that hiring on its platform was down almost 10% over the previous year.
. . .
The quaint rudimentary uses of ChatGPT and competing programs in the early days of public AI quickly gave way to software that was more and more specialized to the task of finding and applying for jobs. Sonara, Jobscan, LazyApply, SimplifyJobs, Massive and so many other types of job-hunting AIs now exist that it’s impossible to keep track of all of them.
. . .
Rather than solving the problems raised by employers’ methods, however, the use of automated job-hunting only served to set off an AI arms race that has no obvious conclusion. ZipRecruiter’s quarterly New Hires Survey reported that in Q1 of this year, more than half of all applicants admitted using AI to assist their efforts. Hiring managers, flooded with more applications than ever before, took the next logical step of seeking out AI that can detect submissions forged by AI. Naturally, prospective employees responded by turning to AI that could defeat AI detectors. Employers moved on to AI that can conduct entire interviews. The applicants can cruise past this hurdle by using specialized AI assistants that provide souped-up answers to an interviewer’s questions in real time. Around and around we go, with no end in sight.
