this week in 'music I'm obsessing over,' I've been listening to charlie xcx almost constantly since brat came out.

for me it's been a double feature, because I discovered I'd never listened to her 2020 album how i'm feeling now (which is confusing, because I was obsessed with crash when it came out, idk how I missed the album before it. anyway)

my favs that I've been looping are 'party 4 u' from how i'm feeling now and 'Sympathy is a knife' from brat. I'm obsessed with both of them.

I think charlie does something really cool in pop; she has such a distinct sound. it's so aggressive and unapologetic, to the point that even though on the surface it just sounds like club music, there's actually this deeper level of sincerity to it that I just adore.

I also love the layering in her music (idk how to talk about music, if there's a more technical term for it). but like all the sounds that come in throughout Sympathy is a knife are so good and satisfying, the strings, the "oh" sound effects; it all gives the song such depth.

anyway idk if any of this makes sense but man i just love pop music and charlie xcx is really out here. i love it.
