The Devil's Partner and Creature from the Haunted Sea will be released together on Blu-ray and DVD on January 16 via Film Masters.

The Devil's Partner is a 1960 horror film directed by Charles R. Rondeau and written by Stanley Clements and Laura Jean Mathews. Ed Nelson, Edgar Buchanan, Jean Allison, and Richard Crane star.

Creature from the Haunted Sea is a 1961 horror-comedy directed by Roger Corman (The Little Shop of Horrors) and written by Charles B. Griffith (Death Race 2000). Antony Carbone, Betsy Jones-Moreland, and Edward Wain.

The Devil's Partner has been newly restored in 4K from original 35mm archival elements. Creature from the Haunted Sea has been newly scanned in 4K from 35mm archival elements with supplemental 16mm.

Both films are presented in 1.85:1 theatrical and 1.37:1 television aspect ratios. Creature from the Haunted Sea's TV version features 15 minutes of additional footage shot years later to extend the runtime. Special features are listed below.

ROCKPORT, Mass. — January 2024 — For Immediate Release — Vintage film restoration and distribution company Film Masters continues its tribute to the pope of pop cinema, Roger Corman, with the third installment of The Filmgroup series on Blu-ray and DVD, The Devil’s Partner, available Jan. 16.

Corman and his brother, Gene, founded The Filmgroup to distribute their own films. While the company did produce the majority of its films, including the cult classic Creature From the Haunted Sea, it also occasionally acquired projects by other filmmakers, as is the case with The Devil's Partner (1961). From director Charles R. Rondeau, the film is a macabre tale of an elderly man who regains his youth after making a deal with the devil. During the summer and fall of 1961, the two films were often paired as a double feature.

Half Man, Half Beast, He Sold his Soul for Passion — Director/actor Edgar Buchanan (best known as Uncle Joe on Petticoat Junction) appears in this supernatural thriller about an old codger trying to reclaim his youth, employing black magic to lure a woman away from his rival. The film also stars Jean Allison, Richard Crane and Ed Nelson. This well-crafted, independent feature has been hailed for its atmosphere and as a pioneering film in the devil worshiping subgenre made popular in the ‘70s.

Made in 1958, The Devil’s Partner languished with no release date until it was picked up and distributed by The Filmgroup, becoming a steady presence on the drive-in circuit, often appearing in tandem with Creature from Haunted Sea, another Corman classic from the golden age of drive-in schlock.

This spoof of spy/gangsters/monster movies stars Anthony Carbone as a gangster and smuggler who decides to kill members of the ship’s bungling crew and blame their deaths on a legendary sea creature. What he doesn’t know is that the creature is actually out there! Also starring Betsy Jones-Moreland and Academy Award-winning screenwriter Robert Towne (Chinatown) under the pseudonym Edward Wain.

The film was conceived when Corman finished shooting The Last Woman on Earth in Puerto Rico and discovered he had enough film left over to make another film. He enlisted long-time associate Charles B. Griffith, who—legend goes—had six days to write the script. Ever the pragmatist when it came to budget, Corman recruited locals to appear in this film as extras.

Special Features: Commentary for The Devil’s Partner is by Larry Strothe, James Gonis, Shawn Sheridan and Matt Weinhold of the Monster Party podcast; theatrical-length commentary for Creature From the Haunted Sea is by fan favorite Tom Weaver, with contributions from Roger Corman, Kinta Zertuche and Larry Blamire. 24 datos de Toyota en las 24 horas de Le Mans

Cada vez queda menos para las 24 Horas de Le Mans y los principales candidatos a la victoria, Toyota y Porsche, se preparan a fondo para el gran día. Los japones quieren quitarse la espinita clavada de la pasada temporada, cuando su Toyota TS050 Hybrid se quedó parado a escasas vueltas del final cuando rodaba en primera posición.

Toyota se ha asegurado de que ningún conector de la línea de aire vuelva a fallar y por si esto o cualquier otro inconveniente sucede, este año tendrán tres coches en pista. En la fábrica de Toyota TMG en Colonia, llevan meses desarrollando el renovado TS050 que ya ha demostrado su valía en las dos primera carreras del Campeonato del Mundo de Resistencia (WEC). Os presentamos 24 datos de Toyota y de esta leyendaria carrera, uno por cada una de las horas que tendrán que luchar este fin de semana si quieren alcanzar la gloria.

1. ¿Por qué 24 horas?

La idea inicial de una prueba de resistencia fue de Georges Durand, fundador del club que la organizaría. En 1922 solicitó a Charles Faroux y Emile Coquile que diseñaran la prueba y propusieron una carrera de 8 horas, con 4 de noche. Jean-Marie Lelièvre, miembro del club, fue quien dijo “¿Por qué no 24?”.

2. 18 años en Le Mans

La primera vez que Toyota alineó un coche para las 24 Horas de Le Mans fue en 1985, con el 85C-L. Desde entonces, ha participado en 18 ediciones con 44 coches en distintas categorías y ha quedado en la segunda posición absoluta nada menos que en cinco ocasiones. La victoria aún se les resiste.

3. La primera edición de las 24 de Le Mans

Fue en 1923. En una época en la que la fórmula “Grand Prix” ya era popular, las 24 Horas de Le Mans se crearon como una alternativa en la que la victoria no sólo dependiera de la velocidad, sino también de la fiabilidad de las máquinas y la resistencia de los pilotos.

4. El primer Toyota que participó Le Mans

El 85C-L tenía un motor de cuatro cilindros turboalimentado de 2,1 litros. Se alinearon dos coches, de los equipos TOM Motorsport y Dome Motorsport. El primero, con Nakajima/SekiyaHoshino, terminó en la posición 12º. El segundo fue el coche más rápido de esa edición: hizo mejor tiempo en los entrenamientos y la mayor velocidad punta (301 km/h).

5. Velocidades de otra época

La velocidad media de la vuelta más rápida en la primera edición de Le Mans fue 107,3 km/h. Fue la del equipo de John F. Duff y Frank Clement, que finalmente serían cuartos. En la segunda edición de las 24 Horas se llevaron la victoria, aunque con menos vueltas que en la primera.

6. Toyota se pasa al V8

Después de cuatro ediciones con el motor de cuatro cilindros en línea, Toyota participó por primera vez la temporada completa del Campeonato del Mundo de Resistencia con un nuevo coche en 1989. En Le Mans alineó tres 89C-V, de motor V8 biturbo y 3,2 l. Pese a los prometedores resultados en el campeonato, en Le Mans no hubo suerte.

7. La Triple Corona

Ganar las 24 Horas de Le Mans, el GP de Mónaco y las 500 Millas de Indianápolis. Sólo Graham Hill lo ha conseguido. Anthony J. Foyt ha sido el único que ha ganado dos carreras el mismo año (24 Horas y 500 Millas de 1967). En activo, sólo Juan Pablo Montoya ha ganado dos de esas tres pruebas, el Gran Premio de Mónaco y las 500 Millas de Indianápolis, en dos ocasiones.

8. El doble de distancia

La distancia que recorrió el ganador en la edición de 2016 es más del doble de la de 1923. En esa primera edición, André Lagache y René Léonard recorrieron 2.209 km en las 24 horas. En 2016, el Toyota TS050 HYBRID de Sarrazin/Conway/Kobayashi recorrió ¡5.193 kilómetros!

9. La recta “Ligne Droite des Hunaudières” de 6 km

Hasta 1990, parte del trazado lo formaba una casi recta que inicialmente era parte de la carretera nacional N138 entre Mulsanne y Arnage, con una curva amplia llamada Indianápolis. En 1990 se instalaron dos chicanes para limitar la velocidad máxima en ese punto.

10. Toyota vuela en Hunaudières

En la edición de 1989, cuando todavía no se había colocado las chicanes para reducir la velocidad al final de Hunaudières, el Toyota 89C-V del equipo Lees/Dumfries/Watson alcanzó una velocidad punta de 367 km/h. Actualmente no se alcanza una velocidad tan alta.

11. Eddie Hall corrió solo

En las 24 Horas de 1950, Hall tenía un piloto de reserva, Tom Clarke, pero su intención era correr sin él. Dio 236 vueltas, más de 3.200 km, se clasificó octavo y ha sido el único piloto que ha conducido durante toda la prueba. Eso sí, Clarke también aparece en la clasificación…

12. Primer podio de Toyota

La primera vez que Toyota subió al podio en Le Mans fue en 1992. Había dos coches distintos para cinco equipos: tres unidades del 92C-V y dos del nuevo TS010. Este último, en manos de la formación de pilotos Sekiya/Raphanel/Acheson, terminó en segundo lugar con 346 vueltas (4.706 km).

13. Doblete en LMP1

En 1994 entró en vigor la nueva reglamentación para prototipos LMP1, limitados por peso, depósito y entrada de aire con relación a los GT. Los Toyota 94C-V finalizaron en segunda y cuarta posición absoluta, y ganaron en la nueva categoría LMP1 (Irvine/Martini/Krosnoff), donde además hicieron doblete.

14. El piloto con más victorias en las 24 Horas

Tom Kristensen, con 9. La primera fue en 1997, el primer año que participaba y en el que entró en el equipo a última hora para reemplazar al piloto lesionado Davy Jones. El piloto danés ha corrido con cuatro marcas y ganado con tres.

15. El Toyota GT-One

Para la categoría GT1 Toyota desarrolló en 1988 el GT-One. El reglamento establecía inicialmente que para que el coche pudiera competir debería tener una versión de calle con un precio de un millón de dólares. Aunque esa norma al final desapareció, Toyota llegó a fabricar dos unidades de esa versión de homologación, una de ellas empleada en una prueba de choque.

16. El circuito ha cambiado en trece ocasiones

Desde 1923 hasta ahora ha habido 13 modificaciones del trazado y, por lo tanto, hay trece récords de distancia y velocidad. El circuito más largo es el que se usó entre 1923 y 1928, con 17,262 km. Desde 2007 hasta ahora, la distancia es 13,629 km.

17. Toyota vuelve ganar su categoría en 1999

El GT-One, con el nombre interno TS020, participó dentro de la nueva categoría LMGTP. Obtuvo la victoria de clase y la segunda posición absoluta, a solo una vuelta del primero, con el equipo de pilotos Katayama/Suzuki/Tsuchiya.

18. Jacky Ickx cambió la salida

Tradicionalmente, los pilotos corrían hacia su coche en la salida de la carrera, algo peligroso porque no les daba tiempo a ajustarse el arnés. Como protesta, en la edición de 1969 Jacky Ickx fue andando en vez de correr. Ganó la carrera y, el año siguiente, ya se dio la salida con los pilotos en el coche.

19. Toyota innova con el primer híbrido en Le Mans

Toyota regresó a Le Mans en 2012, y lo hizo a lo grande, con el TS030 HYBRID dentro de la categoría LMP1. Este automóvil se convirtió en el primer coche híbrido de gasolina que participaba en el Campeonato del Mundo de Resistencia.

20. Dan Gurney creó la tradición del champán

Ganó la edición de 1967, junto con A. J. Foyt. Cuando le dieron el champán regó con él a Jo Siffert (ganador de clase), fotógrafos, pilotos y jefes de equipo presentes. Siffert imitó a Gurney y crearon una tradición que dura hasta hoy. Actualmente, Gurney conserva esa botella.

21. Potencia híbrida

El sistema híbrido del TS030 HYBRID podía generar temporalmente una potencia de hasta 300 CV, gracias a la energía cinética que se recupera en las frenadas. Gracias a ello, es capaz de bajar el tiempo por vuelta en dos segundos con relación a las simulaciones que se hicieron sin el sistema híbrido THS-R.

22. Jean Rondeau ganó en casa

Es el único piloto que ha ganado con un coche que lleva su nombre. También es el único ganador de Le Mans que ha nacido en esa localidad. Su victoria fue en 1980, pilotandi el Rondeau M379B y formando equipo con Jean-Pierre Jaussaud.

23. Éxito después de Le Mans

Los dos TS030 HYBRID abandonaron en Le Mans 2012. Pero después de ello, Wurz y Lapierre quedaron segundos en Silverstone y ganaron las 6 Horas de Sao Paulo, de Fuji y de Shanghái. Fueron el mejor equipo en la segunda mitad de la temporada. Así son las carreras…

24. En el podio y campeones

Toyota consiguió un segundo puesto en 2013 con el TS030 HYBRID (Davidson/Sarrazin/Buemi) y un tercero en 2014 con el TS030 HYBRID (Davidson/Buemi/Lapierre). La victoria en Le Mans se resistía, pero Toyota demostró la competitividad de su tecnología híbrida al conquistar el Campeonato del Mundo de Resistencia en 2014.
