As you can see, there's a clear favorite among the favorites.

Good old Alastor!

Angel is a close second though

Reason Cherri didn't get many points is because I got way too annoyed with her during the 6th episode with her trying to push Angel into his old bad habits when he's trying to reform.

The only reason Velvet is so high up is because I actually really like her for an antagonist while Vox and Valentino get nothing.... especially Valentino for how he treats Angel.

I might change Vox's a little bit since it is comical to watch his reactions to Alastor, who knows.

I'm not gonna explain everyone but feel free to ask why some characters got the amount that they did in their jar.

1. ℂ𝕙𝕖𝕣𝕣𝕚 𝔹𝕠𝕞𝕓🍒💣 → Has been my favourite since the pilot and was so excited when she showed up!! I also relate to her on a personal level it's not even normal anymore.

2. 𝕊𝕚𝕣 ℙ𝕖𝕟𝕥𝕚𝕠𝕦𝕤🐍🔧→ I didn't like him at first but when I rewatched I regretted everything and he became my second favourite. Somehow I also relate to him a lot even though I relate to Cherri sm and they're practically opposites in every way.

3. 𝕍𝕒𝕘𝕘𝕚𝕖🎀🪽 → She's the coolest and I'd love to see more of her!!

4. 𝔸𝕟𝕘𝕖𝕝 𝔻𝕦𝕤𝕥🕸🩰 → I don't think about him often but I love his friendship with Cherri and his development. Also just liked him alot in the pilot so he's still special to me.

5. ℂ𝕙𝕒𝕣𝕝𝕚𝕖🌈👿 → She's honestly adorable and has a good heart. I'd love to see her learn and develop more over the next few seasons plus she's such a fun character to watch.

6. 𝔼𝕞𝕚𝕝𝕪 🩵💫 → I love her and I think she's gonna be great in s2.

7. ℝ𝕠𝕤𝕚𝕖💀🌹 → I love her design and I think she gave Charlie great advice in ep7. She also saved Alastor's character for me bc I honestly didn't like him all that much up until she showed up.

8. ℍ𝕦𝕤𝕜🃏🍻 → He's funny and I relate to how tired he is of everything.

9. ℂ𝕣𝕪𝕞𝕚𝕟𝕚🎸⚘️ → Pic from the old voxtagrams! I just think she's cool and I wonder if she's gonna show up. If she does I hope the part where she has a father-daughter bond with husk is still canon .

10. 𝕍𝕖𝕝𝕧𝕖𝕥𝕥𝕖🛍🎂 → I started loving her bc my bsf loves her sm. Also I love her hair and outfits!!

Ranking Luo Binghe's Versions:

White Lotus Luo Binghe -> He has a soft spot in my heart. I adored him on my first read-through. Especially with how Shen Qingqiu described him! Adorable little bun...

Post Canon Luo Binghe -> Okay, I think you can see the pattern here. I just love nice, kind characters with trauma- not to mention how deeply he cares for his shizun, even when he was wronged by him :D

Freshly Traumatized Luo Binghe -> He has been traumatized throughout his life, but I'm specifically talking about when he just got pushed into the abyss. The questioning! The crisis! The self-doubt! Beautiful, scrumptious angst! -> Even when talking about other freshly traumatized moments (such as his mother's death, sqq's sacrifice, and losing the pendant), it's still beautiful because the crisis! Angst! Death! Trauma!! If he were a real person, I'd hate myself. RIP Shang Qinghua, how much pain you must feel...

Out of the Abyss Luo Binghe -> Okay, I'll admit, the first time I read this I was panicking. What happened to my white lotus?? My thoughts were almost exactly like Shen Qingqiu's, lol. And though the miscommunication was dialed up to the EXTREME, I still loved reading it so much because of the suspense!! -> I'm not gonna lie, Gongyi Xiao was one of my favorites when reading, and he was the one I was talking about in the post of me maturing due to not liking the main characters as much as I did- which was a slight phase. MC's will always be near or at the top. I still love Gongyi Xiao, and I will reread the first two books so I can hit him just write when I feel like writing angst for him. He needs more love, okay?! -> Anyway, I'm rambling. I love this Luo Binghe a lot!! But reading it for the first time... I didn't as much. LOL. I still love him though, don't worry!!

The Official NGE Character Ranking

It’s finally time for the official ranking of Neon Genesis Evangelion characters, as proclaimed by me. While there are a lot of characters to examine, I’d like to focus on the main characters of the original TV series, End of Evangelion, and Death & Rebirth.

WORST OF THE WORST

Gendo Ikari

The story's villain, it's only appropriate to set him dead last. A grieving man turns to putting 14-year-old kids into mecha robots powered by souls. From parental neglect to his agenda to end the world and start the Third Impact, Gendo Ikari can only receive small sympathy points.

Kozo Fuyutsuki

As Gendo's sidekick, I can't let Fuyutsuki off the hook for aiding and abetting. While he does show more compassion towards Shinji Ikari for the identity crisis every other episode than Gendo ever cared to, helping your former college students end the world doesn't look good on a resume.

No Harm No Foul

Kensuke Aida

Kensuke is a little military nerd who just dreams of piloting an EVA. He likes learning about all the actions of NERV or the UN - but also has the horned-up aspect of being a 14-year-old boy who carries around a camera. While it's nice to allow Shinji to have some friends and a form of escapism through his brief stay with Kensuke after running away (again). there isn't much that we know about Kensuke.

Toji Suzuhara

The other half of Kensuke, Toji is the more outwardly expressive and even passive-aggressive. We're introduced to him through his anger at Shinji for Toji's sister after she is severely injured from an EVA/Angel attack. He's the stereotypical "delinquent" who attacks Shinji as payback for his sister's injury, but he turns a more empathetic leaf after witnessing the mental suffering Shinji faces while piloting the EVA. When Toji is selected as the Fourth Child, everything takes a turn for the worse and we never see him again after that fiasco.

Complicit?

Ritsuko Akagi

Ritsuko lives in the shadow of her mother who created the MAGI System, the living, breathing programming holding NERV together. She's the only other person aside from Gendo and Fuyutsuki who knows the true intentions of NERV and SEELE, and for that, points off as being a piece of the end of the world. Ritsuko is still an interesting character as she internalizes and intellectualizes everything until her breaking point in destroying all the Rei copies. I feel bad for her in the cycle of abuse her mother and then her goes through under Gendo's romantic relationships with both of them.

Yui Ikari

This poor woman died and her husband decided it was time to end the world. Had she not passed during the Project E experiment, Shinji would have been a functioning and less traumatized boy. She is such a kind-hearted person who had a positive impact on those around her, and it's sad to see what her legacy turned into through Gendo's distortion.

Misato Katsuragi

Misato always has me going back and forth on my opinions, but I do admittedly love her as a character. Her hotheadedness and drinking habits make her a piece of emotional release from all the environmental stress. Her traumatic past explains the present, and her motherly care for the pilots stands in direct opposition to Ritsuko's risk of the pilots for the sake of destroying the angels. She is largely unaware of NERV's true intentions until the untimely end.

Ryoji Kaji

Kaji is somehow a triple agent working for the Japanese Ministry against both Gendo and SEELE, really just looking to find the truth of it all. He's an admirable character whose only real flaw is being so goddamn horny for all his female characters - except Asuka so I guess there are some moral boundaries. He knew that his life was constantly at risk by working behind everyone's backs, but he's still a positive role model to Shinji, almost showcasing what the positive outcome could be.

The Children

Kaworu Nagisa

We're introduced to Kaworu as the Fifth Child following Asuka's synchronization levels dipping to unprecedented levels. He's a poetic character who quickly befriends Shinji and shows his affection toward him in unexpected manners. As it turns out, Kaworu is actually the seventeenth angel, Tabris. His interest in humankind and otherwise odd behaviors goes seemingly unnoticed by NERV. Kaworu's goal is to reconnect with Adam, but instead, he finds Lilith, rendering his mission a failure thus allowing Shinji to kill him.

Kaworu is one of the only people that shows real love towards Shinji, and that cannot go unappreciated.

Shinji Ikari

Love him or hate him, Shinji is still one of the most interesting case studies of the human mind. A traumatized 14-year-old boy who has never felt real familiar affection since his mother's passing. Abandoned by everyone but commanded to not run away too. He's just looking for some kind of approval. I believe Ritsuko summed up Shinji's character the best by equating him to the "Hedgehog's Dilemma", in which hedgehogs need warmth in the winter so they huddle together, but just end up pricking each other and causing more harm. Shinji cannot be intimate with another character without some outcome of mutual harm.

The lifelong battle, who is the best girl of Evangelion?

The truth is, there is no real answer. They're both amazing.

Rei Ayanami

Rei I - The child we're introduced to is snarky towards Ritsuko's mother as seen in a flashback - calling her an old hag. This Rei is a product of what Gendo really says in private, and thus is killed by Naoko Akagi for repeating the words said behind her back.

Rei II - This iteration of Rei is who we're most familiar with throughout most of the series, socially withdrawn and living in admiration of Gendo for the majority of her lifespan. In her interactions with the other children, she learns to be happy and to cry. She knows she is easily replaceable to NERV's mission. In being the recreation of Yui, she exists as how Gendo saw Yui. This version of Rei passes in sacrifice to destroy an angel.

Rei III - This is the final iteration of Rei seen in the series and End of Evangelion - and is the most expressive one yet. She knows what happened to the previous incarnations, but didn't live it herself. She's angry at the world, angry at Gendo, angry at Shinji, at everyone. She knows she's replaceable, but can't do anything about it but become indifferent to the changing environment.

Asuka Langley Sohryu

I take Asuka as my favorite for her relatability. She says what we're all thinking; and just like Shinji, she's just looking for affection. The main difference is that she refuses to admit that she needs help, for people to look at her, for people to appreciate everything she's sacrificed to get into her position. She holds herself to a standard of pride, never taking out the Interface Headset clips in her hair. She thinks she's grown up, but it's all the trauma that's forced her to become so mature against all odds.

Asuka holds a special place in my heart for some unexplainable reason, so I have to place her in the top position.

Anyways, that's my ranking of the main characters of Neon Genesis Evangelion. lol.

Buddy Daddies - Character & Ship Ranking - Anime Trending:

This week we saw Kazuki & Rei re-enter the Top 10 Anime Character ranking. They came in at #5 and #4 (which isn’t too bad at all, but lower than before) : 

We also saw Miri re-enter at #7 (a bit lower than before) :

And KazuRei entered the Couple-Ship Ranking for the first time!! 

They came in at #14!! That isn’t too bad and it would be neat if they entered the Top 10 before the season ended. Though, I do wish they had been included from the beginning, instead of so very late into the season.

Personal Migi & Dali Character Ranking

Unlike most of my other posts, this one is completely opinionated and subjective. I generally try to rank characters based on complexity, character development, and whether they're interesting rather than likability alone.

Please also note that this is a reflection of the entire story.

Dali: The best hands down, no questions asked. If you're familiar with this blog, then this shouldn't come as a surprise. I love Migi too, but Dali keeps the story so interesting with his bold and wacky plans and his charisma. Furthermore, his complexity, character arc, and redemption were the most satisfying to see.

Migi: He and Dali complement each other so well, and seeing him grow into a proper twin brother capable of saving Dali was satisfying to see. His lovable goofiness throughout the story was also very fun to watch.

Reiko: She ranks surprisingly high as she was quite the compelling antagonist. I love how Sano introduces her as a perfect mother and neighbor and then slowly peels back the layers to reveal the demon within, which was terrifying to see, but in a good way. Despite this, she was a very tragic character, and she serves as an important parallel to Dali.

Eiji: He started off as a prick, but then we gradually realized how tragic and pitiable his circumstances were (he truly never stood a chance!). His redemption was very satisfying to see, and he was also crucial in highlighting Dali's character development and growth.

Sonoyamas: Very wholesome and loving parents, and just heartwarming to see as they were helpful in Migi's character development as well as a foil to Reiko and Dali. I love how the twins were suspicious of them at first, and Youko's outbursts (SHIT) are always great to hear.

Micchan: A true heroine, as she stuck her neck out (literally) for the twins, and her devotion and love towards children definitely shows.

Akiyama: A true friend and moral compass for the twins, and without him, they probably would've remained social pariahs. He also played a significant role in Migi's character development.

Maruta: A decent guy who was desperate for friends, and also quite the quick thinker and tech savant. Wish he would've been shown a bit more prior to the twins' reveal.

Karen: Cute girl that turned out to be an unexpected ally. Love how she can be strangely calculating and emotionless.

Metry: Sorry, but she was more a plot device rather than an actual character. But she does serve as an important parallel to Migi.

Sardine/Fidelite: They may be good dogs, but they're still dogs.

Akira: This guy was a complete buffoon who expected nothing to be wrong after he found out about his affair and continued to pursue Metry, and thought nothing was wrong when she mysteriously disappeared. I guess he tried to be a decent father, but honestly he's an afterthought and a pushover compared to the other characters. I do wish that we could've seen some closure between him and the twins.
