In viatica if im trans should i choose my birth gender or current gender when asked what i see in the mirror or is there not a chance for your character to be trans later (sorry if tbis is dumb)

Hello, anon. Not a dumb question at all, a very valid one, in fact. I apologize, but there are no options for a trans MC in Viatica.

To be completely upfront, I didn’t feel I could write a trans MC authentically. The world of Viatica is incredibly restrictive and prohibitive, and notions of individuality, identity, and self expression simply do not exist. Faithfully writing a trans MC in such a setting was a task I didn’t feel equipped to do. This was my first time writing even a nonbinary character. I didn’t want to write it clumsily or in a way that was misrepresentative, so I chose not to include that option.

I am feeling much more confident with my writing now, so you have that option in Cantata. I’m trying to be more conscious of the diversity of my readers and include more customization options this time around. Thank you for giving Viatica a try, despite that. 😊

Hello as you may or may not know, one of our stretch goals included new hairstyles for the MC.

Just to be clear, hair type and hairstyle are two different things.

Hair types are how your hair looks per default (straight, wavy, curly, dreadlocks) and it will be reflected in CG! Hairstyles, however, are just variations of your hair type, aka how you style your hair that day. It will be like dresses, you can change them during your playthrough and they will appear in your sprite, but they will not be reflected in CG.

This week, you can vote for the hairstyle for the straight hair type, the top 4 will be added to the game!

It is a shame they don't share hair/horn/beard options between Draenei and Lightforged. It shouldn't be too hard to add and would give a lot of variety. Lightforged would still look unique with their permanent runes, tattoos and gold bits.

I'd love if they were cross-compatible between the two, at least as far as hair goes. I'd also love if the horns were separate from the hairstyles like female Draenei get to have.

In response to the previous ask, do you think trans options are something you might go back and add to Viatica at some point? I understand if not and you just want to leave the finished work as is but it would be really neat to see, cause I think right now, that's really the only thing keeping it back from being a perfect 10/10 for me (still like a 9.7/10 without though.)

The setting for Viatica still feels like a difficult one for me to explore such a transition and journey in. I’m using Cantata as an opportunity to really challenge myself and my writing—I want to explore personas I personally don’t identify with, behaviors I don’t usually write, or choices I may not agree with. It will definitely be a testing ground for me. If I can succeed here, I may go back and apply what I’ve learned to Viatica. But Viatica also suffers from (for lack of a better term) being very personal to me and based on an existing linear story. In contrast, Cantata is starting as very much an IF with an emphasis on character choice.

But I’ve already reimagined Viatica once, so who’s to say I won’t do so again one day!

I know it’s a drawback for some readers, and I appreciate you giving it a try and rating it so high regardless. ❤️

Do not disappoint me again and give us the character customization we deserve! There literally no reason not to this time! No school setting, no old world setting, no time travel, we are in modern day Kalos on vacation.

We are taking a holiday in the fashion capital of the Pokémon world so the fashion needs to slay just as hard or even harder than it did before!

We got customizable eyes with lush lashes in all sorts shapes and sizes in Scarlet and Violet.

Do it again!

We are back in the region where Poke PR videos exist, where female trainers can have a full face of makeup.

Double up the colors and stuff eyeshadow and blush into the makeup kit where they always belonged!

LET US GO WILD! LET US BE FASHIONABLE AS PLACE WE’RE SPENDING THIS ADVENTURE IN!

I saw more than one boutique in that artwork and game footage but I need a reason to sink hours of my playtime into them! My Serena was my first time really expressing my taste in fashion freely. She was a champion and the style queen. I owed every single piece of clothing in every category, not a single charm was missing. Pokemon had the power to do that once and they can damn sure do it again!

Time to be the best and better than it ever was! Give us the beautiful vacation in the city of lights we trainers deserve.

(Seriously though, the eyeshadow and blush are a must, the trainers in-game are a little too old for “it’s inappropriate for kids” argument)

(Plus our rival is literally the same character model as the player redressed with different hair colors so there really is no reason for us to possibly be stuck in the same dusty fit we came in with the whole time. Or a reason not to have some ombré options since they proved they could do it on the same model)
