sycophant???

The first thing I think of Emperor’s New Clothes by Panic! At The Disco, but aside from that-

Sycophant is a fun word. It sounds like it'd mean something like jester, but the kind of jester who wants to be taken seriously. A jester but everything they say is serious, it isn't meant to be taken as a joke, yet everyone thinks they're joking anyway. That's what the word sycophant sounds like.

It actually means someone who's sucking up to someone in power. There's a lot of sycophants in the world. And I think it fits this definition as well; there's some words where the definition doesn't match up with the word, this is not one of them. They match up pretty well.

I also like the word because even if someone doesn't know what it means, they'll still be offended if you call them a sycophant. Yes, I'm calling them a mindless ass-kisser, but even if they don't know that, they still get the vibe. Nobody wants to be a sycophant.
