sycophant???

The first thing I think of Emperor’s New Clothes by Panic! At The Disco, but aside from that-

Sycophant is a fun word. It sounds like it'd mean something like jester, but the kind of jester who wants to be taken seriously. A jester but everything they say is serious, it isn't meant to be taken as a joke, yet everyone thinks they're joking anyway. That's what the word sycophant sounds like.

It actually means someone who's sucking up to someone in power. There's a lot of sycophants in the world. And I think it fits this definition as well; there's some words where the definition doesn't match up with the word, this is not one of them. They match up pretty well.

I also like the word because even if someone doesn't know what it means, they'll still be offended if you call them a sycophant. Yes, I'm calling them a mindless ass-kisser, but even if they don't know that, they still get the vibe. Nobody wants to be a sycophant.

If there was one thing Doreen Gracey excelled at (aside from throwing wild bal de masques and growing the most wonderful of flowers), it was masking her feelings through joviality and boisterousness, but both Edward and Belle knew better, and could see through that mask where others could not-or, perhaps in the case of her parents, would not.

"Her parents are...getting more serious about marrying her off," he confided to Philippe, keeping his voice down as he glanced briefly at the Gracey parents, chatting away with another couple across the ballroom. "They've been wanting her to go out more, to entertain more bachelors, and it's sincerely weighing her down..." It wasn't like she could tell them that her heart already belonged to someone else, after all.

Especially someone they would consider...inferior to her.

"So...having you here, and being with Susannah again, it...it means more to her than she or I could ever say," he finished: He was glad his Dore had such exceptional friends she could count on, people to help put her mind at ease and show that she wasn't always as trapped as she felt by her parents and the world they lived in.

"And I'd just like to say...thank you. Thank you very much for being there for her."

MIILAK, KELL OF KINGS ;;

name ; miilak, kell of kings (pronounced like "me-lock") species ; eliksni pronouns ; he/him gender ; kell sexuality ; not applicable by human standards; does show a preference for humans over his fellow eliksni rank/house ; kell of house kings

phys. description ; 13’3”. miilak is built wide for an eliksni, not as round as the infamous spider, but still broader than his lankier, lither brethren. his chitin is a shimmering, shining gold, fading to red-orange at the ends of his limbs (similar to this crab), and his skin is jet black. his eyes are a typical ether-blue. miilak’s chitin spikes into kellhorns on his shoulderblades, spikes once more to a set of horns on the top of his head. he does not have a full mane, but does have a small amount of hair along his shoulders and down his back.

personality ; miilak is a complicated eliksni — not just because of his position, but also due to the way he wields it. he wants, really and truly, for his house to prosper; otherwise, he would not have put it back together himself. he cares very deeply for the eliksni under his banner, and is not afraid to put himself on the battlefield to defend them. at the same time, miilak is a kell who loves the finer things. when he can afford it, he drapes himself in luxuries, enjoying exactly the sorts of things power allow someone like him to have. he has no shame in this, nor does he think he should. his opulance, to him, is a symbol of his people's success. miilak does have an, admittedly, fairly open secret: he prefers the romantic company of terrans to that of his own people.

brief history ; who miilak was before uldren sov and fikrul razed house kings does not matter; it does not matter if he was dreg, or vandal, or captain, or baron. what mattered was that, as he watched the docking of his former kell, he knew one thing: he could not allow his house to be lost. through painstaking effort, miilak banded together what vestiges of the once great house he could, pulling from house dusk former members who had fled, pulling from what few houses remain whoever he could get to their side. over the course of a few short years, under his leadership, house kings has risen up once more. while they are nowhere near the powerhouse they once were, he hopes he can bring them back to that point some day. to miilak, that is his duty.

I think more people should make fursonas and I'm dead serious. the process of self-exploration that naturally comes along with creating a funny little critter to represent yourself is SO valuable, as you consider the types of animals you vibe with and what kind of aesthetic/colours/personality/etc suit you and stuff like that (fun fact this process is how I figured out I was transgender lol. not saying that will happen to you but just proving that you can learn a LOT about yourself through this design process and any subsequent design changes)

and then when you're all done, you have a little freak you can do whatever you want with! edit them poorly into memes, commission lavish oil paintings of them to hang in your mansion, use them as a personal online mascot, design a fucked up evil twin for them to fight, soak them in milk and throw them at the wall, anything really. same stuff some people do with fandom characters they really like, except it's 100% yours and nobody can tell you you're doing it wrong! also now you have an animal your friends can associate with you and they'll send you funny pics/videos of that animal that make them think of you. literally it's just wins all the way down for you and everybody you associate with. everyone should have one of these things!!
