You know what I want out of a Buffy reboot? I want a trans slayer. I want someone assigned male at birth but pre-transition to show up with all the slayer abilities and everyone to be like “a boy slayer wtf???!!!” and then she’s like “oh I’m a trans woman” and everyone is like “ohhhhh.” I want the slayer line to transcend biology and genetics. I want slayer powers to be something so innate that it’s tied into one’s own gender identity. Please. Give me a trans slayer.

thinking about if they actually made that modern buffyverse show that they’ve been talking about for like 5 years that all the news outlets were wrongly labelling as a “reboot”. more specifically thinking about the implications of a trans slayer

she’s not out yet. she maybe doesn’t even kNOW yet. but she feels herself activate, she gets the dreams, she has a watcher come to find her and teach her but… they don’t even know they’re looking for her. maybe part of the first season is the watcher thinking that her cis friend is the slayer, trying to train her to no avail only to reveal… no. it’s not her friend. it’s… michael or josh or nick or whatever her deadname would be. and she realises she’s trans.

being the slayer is already a metaphor for growing up and finding yourself, and has already been compared to coming out or being queer multiple times in the show. the idea of a young trans girl navigating her identity through metaphor, and subsequently presenting being trans as, yes, difficult and life-inhibiting in some ways, but also quite literally a superpower AND something valid and real and recognised by ancient spiritual fate prophecy stuff, would be so fucking awesome to see.

Oz’s trans masc energy and his lycanthropy blend so well. His Nice Event™️ shirt for Buffy’s birthday was an oversized iridescent blue to purple button up. The sleeves reached his elbows. He played guitar in a band where he didn’t have the same interest in objectifying women as his bandmates did. He saw a girl all buttoned up in an Inuit coat at a party and pretty much immediately fell in love. He’s constantly changing his hair colour but it’s always the same style. AND THEN cousin Jordy bites him and brings out a slew of concerns for possible murder but not once was he all that hung up on how his body was changing except for how it might affect his relationship with Willow.
