Make Cool Outfits With Kids Clothes
6K posts
You can have a lot of fun shopping for kids clothes if you learn how to put together cool outfits. It's not very hard but there are some criteria you must be aware of and then you will always know what to buy. Whenever I put together a new outfit for my website, I use a different approach. Over the time I have looked at many different styles and figured out a way to put together cool outfits with kids clothes. The nice thing is that you can start with any item of clothing. Most people start out with a shirt or sweater - even I did that in the beginning. But then you might find a cool accessory that you'd really like your child to wear; then you should create an outfit with kids clothes around that accessory. In other words, you can start with any item of clothing, but that item is going to outline already what the outfit as a whole should look like. In order to be able to build an outfit around any item of clothing, you need to understand the relation between these items and how they make up an outfit for your child. If you started with the pants, you wouldn't know what shirt and shoes to choose, because you have only learned how a shirt influences the rest of an outfit; and not how pants influence a whole outfit. So to give you an example, I would like to use belts again: I'm pretty sure not many start their boys' outfits by choosing a belt, first.

Alternatives to midriff bearing tops?
I love the midriff look and tops that cut above the waistband on all shapes and sizes, but I don’t love it on myself.
I had twins two years ago. I don’t mind the poochy belly I rock, but I definitely have that line that makes my belly look like a butt, a misshapen navel, and I had a PUPPPS rash that left me with permanent scarring all over my stomach. I’m proud of my body and what it did but don’t love showing even a slice of skin unless I’m with close friends that know what that pregnancy was like and aren’t surprised to see it. I know I shouldn’t feel self conscious, but I do.
I see these short tops everywhere, and love the silhouette of wider pants with a tiny top. I want to wear that! Is there another way I can embrace this trend, or another trend that feels fresh and updated, without showing my scarring?

What's a good pant length for a petite woman? (I'm 5'4")
Feels weird to call myself petite, since I'm Asian (American) and 5'4" is pretty normal for a woman in China! But I digress.
I should probably just go try on pants at the store, but why not just ask the internet. What is a good pant length for women my height? Cropped/ankle, or full length? The purpose is to look taller or not look shorter. I feel like cropped would make me look taller, but you might be able to tell how short the pants are so maybe not. Or full length (to top of sneakers) would make me look taller, because the pants are actually longer.
Also side note, my legs are quite muscular (I cycle and have muscular thighs/bum and naturally bigger calves) and I'm a size 2-4 in pants. I'm not sure if skinny/slim/straight/flared pants would look better on me.
What do you think?
edit: my inseam is 27.5" (crotch to bottom of ankle bone)

Looking for some pieces to create a capsule wardrobe for grad school
22F and the dress code for my classes is business casual. I want to look professional but not too old or stuffy. Nice jeans are allowed but I've always hated jeans and other pants with similar fastenings. My skin also doesn't do well with that cheap chiffon type fabric for blouses (cotton is much better). So I'm really just looking for suggestions for some nice shirts, blouses, and pants that I can mix and match. Willing to try a dress or two as well. Also any advice on which essentials I'd need for a capsule wardrobe would be great. Thanks!
Forgot to add things I do like! I like simple stuff when it comes to details like frills and ruffles etc, but I love floral/geometric prints paired with a solid, and I love rich, earthy colors and pastels. I especially love boho-inspired style in terms of colors and style. I love soft pants like paperbag pants and I don't like anything too constricting. I've had success shopping for casual clothes at American Eagle, Earthbound, Target, and Francesca's. I also love the aesthetic of Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters, and Free People, but can never afford them.

Tops to go with checkered/tartan (etc) trousers and leggings?
I love patterned leggings and trousers, but so as not to then make the whole outfit too 'busy' I only ever wear them with a black tshirt (tank, tight or crop) and often a big statement necklace. It leaves me feeling quite restricted though, especially as I have lots of patterned trousers that I love! Can anyone suggest other styles that would work? They're a mixture of tight leggings and baggy trousers. Thanks!

Advice for graduation dress
I’m looking for a black dress preferably, but the dress code only allows for black or white with dark shoes. It really limits my options, but I’d like to find something comfortable.
I wanted to know if there’s any sort of dress I should steer clear of? Any certain cuts, lengths or necklines? I’d like to find something with an A-line and maybe knee length or slightly longer, and no pencil skirts. If anyone has recommendations that would be great (UK based)
I’ve had a look at the university website already and most of the photos you can hardly see the dresses people are wearing under the robes 😅

Daily Questions Thread - April 22, 2022
This thread is for individual style questions that you may have, especially those that don't warrant their own thread. We all want a diversified opinion, so feel free to answer any questions (of which you know the answer). To get the best responses, please include any relevant details such as your budget, where you live, and what stores are available to you.
Example questions:
Are there any basic crewneck white t-shirts that are opaque and do not have cap sleeves for <$25 available in Australia?
Is this dress and shoes suitable for an evening wedding with a cocktail dress code taking place in a [venue type]?
If I like the outfits in this [imgur album / pinterest board], what are some specific items I can look into to start dressing like that, and brands with this look that carry plus sizes?
Does this outfit look neater with the pants cuffed or uncuffed?

Shopping gives me anxiety because I struggle so much with putting outfits together. Can anyone recommend any online stylist service that can help!
I know exactly what type of style I'm drawn to, think lydia tomlinson, dearly bethany, emma hill. Its a classic look but almost a mix of masculine/feminine with a slight london vibe but overall mature looking. Not quick trends that cycle other insta influencers.
Issue is I struggle SO much when going into shops, I can't visualise if those pants from zara will go with that top from h+m and that jacket from country road (Australian). The times I have thought the outfit will work I'll get home and it looks terrible lol.
I'm also petite and slightly curvy so clothes already are a struggle for thinking it will work but instead it looks like a potato sack :')
Can anyone recommend some online service that sends different lookbook options from different shops with my size/shape in mind and I can order in bulk online and try it all on?

Nerdy Folks - are there any fashion brands or independent stores that do "adult nerdy" well?
Personally, there's only so many t-shirts I can wear and not get bored of it. I noticed sometimes men get button up shirts in patterns from the kimonos from anime, and Black Milk had a cool pokemon mimikyu burnt velvet dress once that looked universally wearable in pics, but I've been struggling to find anything that isn't just overtly plastered in faces and cartoons.
Anyone have any luck or any favorite stores they go to to find these things?

Dressing Professional on a Budget?
Hello Everyone,
I'm needing to really upgrade my wardrobe to something more professional. Something appropriate for the world of law, politics, or business. I'm still in college so my budget is unfortunately constrained. That being said, I don't want to look overly cheap.
How do I present myself well, while not breaking the bank? I'm in the process of ascending into a higher social class. All advice is welcomed.

Shoulder pads removal
I found a pretty pink Zara tweed jacket that completes this one outfit I recently out together, but, horror of horrors, it has shoulder pads stitched inside.
My dear readers, I look like a grouchy turtle in shoulder pads.
So, if I get them removed, is it likely that the shoulder pads removal will ruin the shape of the jacket?

Are ripped jeans out of trend (2022)?
I recently bought some baggy ripped jeans after actively avoiding them for years cuz it seems like everyone and their mom here in the UK wear ripped jeans. But lately I've been noticing that people are wearing more plain bootleg or baggy jeans. So are ripped jeans out of style already?

Blue suit with date's black prom dress.
So I'm wearing a navy blue suit and my prom date is wearing a black dress. Do I need to do black shoes and a tie? If I do a dark-colored tie like maroon or purple should I do brown shoes or black shoes?

Any honest reviews of silk blouses
My searches lead me to Ravella, but at $165, I need to love it. Lilysilk and Quince are less expensive options. Does anyone have experience with any of these?

Obvious fakes on The Real Real? Chronic problem still?
Another family wedding coming up, and my daughter was wanting a new dress. She found a gorgeous J Mendel dress on The Real Real. I've had some nice lucky scoring luxury goods on TRR so with a $25 credit I had, I went ahead and ordered it for her.
The listing was described as excellent condition, no signs of wear, designer J Mendel.
I have not personally owned any J Mendel dresses, but I do have some other luxury clothing and guys, this is just not it. It came with a price tag attached from Barney's showing a price tag of $3200. Cool, it's actually NWTs right? But look at the tag, here's a pic. It's blurry, some of the print is cut off on the tag, and while I know that Barney's deeply clearanced out a lot of items when they went out of business, this doesn't look like an authentic tag to me?
In addition, the quality of this dress is just not high. As mentioned, I haven't owned any J Mendel, but the lining, marked as silk is completely see through, and does not feel expensive at all. The lace is pretty but nothing special. I have a different silk lined luxury dress and the silk in that is much heavier, not see through at all, and feels luxurious. This just..does not.
I feel like this is an obvious fake and have no idea how this got through authentication. Do you all agree? Or is J Mendel overrated?

im trying to step away from fast fashion
I rarely buy clothes bc its obviously expensive and I hate the idea of spending loads on clothes that I'd grow to hate or would ruin quickly. So, the pieces I do buy are things I know I'm going to wear for quite some time, while still being relatively cheap.
I'm now at a point where I'm becoming somewhat interested in the way I dress, and while I love the options at H&M or Zara, I've been told recently that they're fast fashion brands. I'm looking for brands that produce clothes that I can invest in and keep forever, like statement pieces.

Does anyone know what to call this fashion type?
Lana Del Rey (Brooklyn Baby, Ultraviolence, Paradise era)
Jade West
Megan Fox
Jennifer Love Hewitt (Ghost Whisperer)
Morticia Addams
Fran (The Nanny)
Rachel (Friends)
Pretty Little Liars
Mix of 50-60s vintage
I love dressing feminine however, I don’t really like how pastel colors look on me & my favorite colors are darks or neutrals like maroon & black (mainly), navy, royal purple, dark green or if I had to choose lights; white & beige really. I hate wearing jeans and if I do, it’s only really white or black and very rarely I wear denim blue jeans. I feel like when I dress girly and feminine, it makes me feel pretty but I feel as though I’m “trying too hard” but when I dress in darker tones, idk what it is, I’m just more confident… I keep trying to look for feminine outfits that use darker colors or when I try to look up the aesthetic, grunge or goth appears and that’s not what I’m looking for (nothing wrong with it but I’d like a more subtle look for me). Does anyone know what to call it?
