To be clear, I am throughly enjoying Thara Celehar, Witness for the Dead, but...uh...the overall vibes were a surprise.

frothing at the mouth and crying because Thara Celehar daydreamed about sharing tea with someone who likes honey in their tea and wants to share a life with him and then he has tea with the Theatre Gay of Amalo who puts honey in his tea and is totally down for whatever shenanigans Thara dreams up! This wet little sad man is embraced by this larger-than-life joyous adhd man who says he can come into his box any time he likes and genuinely enjoys his company???????

I'm thinking about how badly I want Thara to heal but also how at this point it has to come from within. He has stability. He has community support. His biggest obstacle between himself and a good life is the belief that he deserves it.

Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: The Goblin Emperor Series - Katherine Addison Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Thara Celehar/Iäna Pel-Thenhior Characters: Thara Celehar, Iäna Pel-Thenhior, Velhiro Tomasaran Additional Tags: Hurt/Comfort, Case Fic, get your man a grilled cheese and a good night's sleep Summary:
By the time Tomasaran and I had given our preliminary statements, the murderer had been taken away, weeping with rage, and Subpraeceptor Azhanharad had slumped over his desk and said, “That will do for tonight. Go and get some sleep, both of you; the Amal’theileian can wait until noon,” it was after one o’clock in the morning, and only the hourly night trams were running.
I wrote a fic for The Sufficiently Advanced Exchange 2024! For MildredMost, who is the best of beta readers. <3

the elflands has to have sumptuary laws right? (apart from the emperor being the only person who can wear white) particularly with regards to jewellery/earrings; sailors wear iron, Csevet and Thara wear brass. Iana and a reporter both wear jewels in their ears though so maybe not?

It's October Reads time!! I started the month with a few titles I didn't enjoy tons, but I've also read a bunch I really liked, so definitely a mixed bag. :D And of course, lots of short stories (and a novella!) for editing work. :D
sweet static by Cedar D. McCafferty-Svec
The Ending Line of Casablanca by Lucy K. R.
Going Dark by Max Jason Peterson
The Grief of Stones by Katherine Addison (The Cemetaries of Amalo vol. 2)
Deadendia: The Divine Order by Hamish Steele (Deadendia vol. 3/last vol.)
Seaside Stranger by Ki Karna
My Hero Academia vol. 19 and 20 by Kohei Horikoshi
Young Hag and the Witches' Quest by Isabel Greenberg
Haikyu! vol. 11 - 13 by Haruichi Furudate
Spring Rain: A Graphic Novel of Love, Madness, and Revolutions by Andy Warner
Delivery for You by Teku Rin
Flung Out of Space: The Indecent Adventures of Patricia Highsmith by Grace Ellis and Hannah Templer
AWM: PUBG by Mu Su Li
Scrap Metal Angel by Nicola Kapron
The Benefits of Consequences by Dei Walker
Goals by R. L. Houck
The Cage is Not Yet Broken by Nicola Kapron
Rose and Renaissance vol. 1 and 2 by Zhi Chu
Indiginerds, edited by Aline Pete
Delicious in Dungeon/Dungeon Meshi vol. 2 by Ryoko Kui
Patience and Esther: An Edwardian Romance by S. W. Searle
Unsafe Haven by Cedar D. McCafferty-Svec
Running Mates by boneturtle (not pictured - author requested we not add this story to SG or GR)
Barda by Ngozi Ukazu
As a note on the work ones, I usually have read the titles for work weeks, if not months, before they actually make it onto my list. I read Scrap Metal Angel in, like. July. Something like that. But they don't make it onto my "read" list until I add them to Goodreads and/or Storygraph, which skews things. That said, I actually DID read Scrap Metal Angel in October (...for the third time...) but only one of those times makes it into my reading list, and only at the end. Basically, tracking reading as a professional editor is weird.
Whatcha'll been reading?

Hi friend!! For the fic writer ask…10, 14 and 17! 🚀
heyyy thank you for the questions!!!
10. Is there a fic that got a different response than you were expecting? This one is hard to say! I generally write rarepairs, unpopular characters, unpopular kinks or unpopular combos of top/bottom and the wrong character being trans (this was my experience returning to resident evil fandom with my leon/trans!krauser offerings... ANGRYCRY EMOTE), so I usually don't really expect any specific response to my fics other than my own pleasant surprise when one goes down well.
I think the fic that fits this most is the fic I wrote for Yuletide - Solace, a Thara/Iana fic from Cemetaries of Amalo. That was very difficult to write and the tone was hard to pull off, so I'm really pleased and surprised that it seems to be well-liked! Thees and thous.... thees and thous...
14. If you could see one of your fics adapted into a visual medium, such as comic or film, which fan fic would you pick? OH BOY the vast majority of my fics are just pwp, so I think for this one I'd have to pick Legacy - a post-DMC5 Nero/Credo fic which took hold of me in a vicegrip after DMC5 came out. The song!!! The CUTSCENE!!! AHHHHH???? Ahem. Anyway, it would be really fun to see this in some form of adaptation, if only because I selfishly want to see as much Angelo Credo as possible please. FLUFFY BIRD DEMON THIGHS!!!!!!
17. What’s something you’ve learned about while doing research for a fic? HMMMM let me think. I learned about the types of mushroom used to spin into cloth in Forgotten Realms while writing clad in celebration-spores and tessadyle cloth (bg3 Blurg/Omeluum) which was fun from a previously-in-textiles-industry point of view! But usually things I research are like.. can you fuck with this specific kind of wound, what does it feel like to be throat-fucked, etc etc. lmao. Very Specific!!

For the end of year asks: 2, 8, 17 and 20
thanks for the ask 💚
2. best moment of the year? watching my best friend's child do his very first unsupported steps right in my living room when they were visiting me
8. best book/book series of the year? I didn't read all that much at all, and mostly nonfiction or re-reads, but I got to read the second Cemetaries of Amalo book, I'd call that my number 1 book of the year! I just love the world and worldbuilding and how it feels like a 3d world where people actually live. Also I love the main character - he is a priest of the god of death and dreams who can see the echoes of a deceased person's last impressions or most important thoughts before their death. His position is called "Witness for the Dead" and he is often called to act as a, well, witness and messenger for recently deceased people's last wishes. Or to solve murder mysteries.
Another highlight was definitely Mass Effect: Annihilation. I love the Elcor and the Quarians so much, and to read a book with members of their species among the main characters was great, plus I loved the characters themselves.
17. what are some hobbies that you developed? Finally started training for mountain rescue, which I've been waiting to be able to do for quite a while.
20. how did this year treat you in general? It didn't allow me enough breaks and the first 6 months were rough, but it was pretty good all in all. It was a successful year, I managed to finish some things that kept weighing on my shoulders.

i like the worldbuilding detail in tge that it's fashionable at court for men and women to have colorfully laquered nails, but in the cemetaries of amalo i don't think many (if any) characters are described by thara as having laquered nails, and those books are centered 95% on working class characters in the universe of the chronicles of osreth
