Hal dare not close his eyes lest the scene play out for him all over again. Lest he relive a moment best forgotten. Instead, he stared at the unopened bottle of whiskey before him. Part of him longed to down it, to empty the bottle in the hopes that it might numb the pain. A promise to himself, one people supported him with, was the only thing preventing him.

And Cecily was the only person stopping him from going after Luca Changretta alone. He didn’t think he could bear the disappointment on her expression if he survived.

‘Hal?’ Cecily’s voice was reverently soft as she trailed her hand over his shoulder and to between his shoulder blades. The touch was gentle, and yet miraculously like an anchor.

He sucked in a shuddering breath, toyed with his lips as if that might hold back everything.

‘Henry,’ Cecily whispered before moving to crouch in front of him. She took his hands in her calloused ones and held on tightly, as if she refused to ever let him go. ‘Caniateir i chi alaru.’ [You are allowed to mourn]

Despite everything, Hal scoffed. But the gesture brought with it the tears he’d been holding back. And once free, they refused to stop.

‘That your shopping list?’ he asked thickly.

She gave his hands a firm squeeze. ‘You loved him, Hal,’ she said gently, reaching up to brush away a tear track and cup his cheek. ‘No one expects you to be fine with all this.’

Hal nuzzled his cheek in her hand for a moment, still not daring to close his eyes despite the temptation.

‘If it’s a boy –?’

‘You don’t even need to ask,’ she told him her own eyes welling before he pulled her in for a hug, finally letting the grief out.

Cecily Griffins: Cecily first realized her feelings for Minerva during an evening in the Hogwarts library. They were working late, sorting through stacks of old texts, and Minerva, ever so focused, had a rare moment of quiet laughter. In that moment, Cecily felt an unexpected warmth in her chest, and she realized just how much she’d come to adore her.

Chandra Loriss: For Chandra, the realization came when Lucius stood up for her at a formal event at the Ministry. She had been quietly observing from the shadows, but when someone made a cutting remark about her family, Lucius had coldly shut them down. It wasn’t his usual arrogance that got to her, it was the unexpected protectiveness. That was when she knew.

Harmony Bainbridge: Harmony had always admired Bellatrix and Narcissa, but her feelings truly hit her when she caught a private moment between the two sisters. HAWTHORNE IN BLOOM

I was walking along the River in Somerset and there ,so early in the year ,was this Hawthorne, a whole tree ablaze against an azure sky.  It seemed unreal after months of grey.  But it was real.  Cicely Mary Barker said in her poem illustrated by her painting of the Hawthorne fairy that the Hawthorne is the first.  It is brave and forges ahead.

THE FIRST DAFFODILS

So I kept on my very Spring, late Winter ramble beside the river that runs through the neighbouring town, next there were the first few shy daffodils.

THE SNOWDROPS ARRIVE

I had seen snowdrops already up high above the coast among the hills that run above the town, nearly a moorland heath but not quite, there are farms up there.  And as the tiny country bus winds its way between fields, on the tops the banks either side of the road through the village and the farmer’s fields, there are rows and rows of snowdrops, brave against the altitude and the bitter winds.  There are even snowdrops next to the castle and in the churchyard, carpets of them.

SPRING

The World is very old;

But year by year It groweth new again

When buds appear.

Then there were more and more of them at the house at Raveningham where there were countless snowdrops in circles, around trees and between flowerbeds.  Everything else is asleep but the snowdrops are up and ready.

They are ready for the world, for everything, they have all they need.  Hope.

My Mum loved the flower fairies’ poems and so do I.

AN ARRANGMENT OF FLOWERS

The marriage of Douglas and Esther brought together the House Malus of Sweetgrove and House Cuy of Sunhouse. Together they had three children: Adelaide, the current Lady of Sweetgrove, Lucillia, and Felicity. Lady Esther passed away at age forty of a prolonged illness.

Their family line is established as the following: Paternal: Everett Malus married to Sybell Hawthorne. Together they had three children: Douglas, Alon, and Saede. Saede Malus and Sybell Malus died of a fever at twelve and fifty two years of age respectively. Alon Malus passed a few months after the marriage of Douglas and Esther at age twenty one from a broken neck as the result of an accident while horseback riding. Everett Malus also passed away five years later, at age fifty nine.

Maternal: Hyle Cuy married to Lucinda Mertyns. Together they had four children: Esther, Laurane, Myranda, and Cecily. Lucinda passed at age forty four, cause unknown. On Lady Lucinda’s death Hyle remarried to Lady Alyce Kidwell. Together they had two children: Emmot and Ellyn. Hyle Cuy passed away at age sixty seven in his sleep.

Laurane married a member of the junior branch of House Hightower, Bryen. Together they have three children: Lorence, Edwyn, Denyse. Myranda married Triston Santagar. They have two sons: Arron and Lewyn. Cecily married a common merchant named Rolland, they have no children as of yet.

Emmot married Rylene Lowther and they have no children. Ellyn is currently unmarried.

Cece had always tried to keep hatred at bay. It was a feeling that did very little to help with anything, and her father had always joked that it gave their family indigestion. She’d never bought into that story, but she agreed that it wasn’t a good feeling. And yet, in recent years, Thomas Shelby had done more than enough to earn her ire.

‘Ce?’ Hal asked softly, drawing her attention away from her toolbox. ‘What’re you doing up?’

‘I couldn’t sleep,’ she admitted, resting an absent hand on her swollen belly. The baby’s due date was still a few months away, but she worried she’d only just got used to knowing it was there. How strange would it be after they were born? ‘I was... thinking.’

Hal pressed a gentle kiss on her temple before dropping to sit on the other side of the sofa. It had been a long time since the two of them spent a quiet night in, and she carefully rested her feet on his lap.

‘Thinking’s dangerous,’ he teased softly, gently rubbing her feet. ‘What’s on your mind?’

Cece sighed contentedly, trying to push aside the darkness of her thoughts. Thomas Shelby didn’t deserve her time. Her unborn child, on the other hand, and her husband, deserved all the time she could give them.

‘I’m excited to meet our baby,’ she told him softly. There was only the briefest stutter in Hal’s massage, but it was enough for her to notice. Enough to have her moving so she could hug his arm. ‘You’re going to be a fantastic father, Henry Brandon. Don’t ever doubt that.’

Hal pressed a soft kiss to her temple. ‘And you a fantastic mother, Cecily Brandon.’

Moving to Birmingham was Luce’s way of escaping her past, her way of laying ghosts to rest that haunted London streets. What she never expected was to find herself making friends with people who had links to gangs, to find that even monsters have moments of humanity, and that sometimes the best adventures don’t always have happy endings. But Lucinda Turner is nothing if not resilient, and soon finds herself trying to carve her own path in Birmingham, a path she was too scared to try finding when she was home.

Stan always felt a little outside of his own family, even if he knew they never saw it that way. Yet part of him longed for those days of his elder brothers bending the law to come back after the War. What he had never expected was for his brothers to return and claim power in the city they’d always called home, for the chasm between them to grow. One chance meeting, however, has him being dragged into the more illegitimate side of things, and has him questioning what exactly it means to be a Shelby in name only. 

Being a Peaky Blinder was never a question for Hal; the Shelbys were kin, and there was nothing that would stop him from helping them however he could. He didn’t necessarily like the things they did, but he’d fight if it meant making sure his family were OK. He’d use the lessons of his past to help them move forwards, to protect those of them that couldn’t do it themselves. After the War, his views changed ever so slightly; his thoughts on how to protect the people he cared about altered, even if the world around him didn’t.

The War changed Wilfred Turner, so much so that even he himself thought he’d died overseas. A young man who had seen darkness and dealt out his own darkness in the hopes of surviving. He hoped time with his family might help him to cope, might help bring him out of the void. Yet, when his little sister runs away from home, and only a letter admits that she went of her own free will, that she’d contact them as soon as she could, Wilf decides to try fixing his shattered family. No matter what it takes.

Moving to America was meant to be the fresh start Sylvain needed; a new identity, a distance between himself and his family. He might have missed the people he cared about back home, but he’d hoped in time those emotions would fade. America was his chance to forget about the War that had changed everything. A chance to start life straight. But gangs and violence have a way of seeping into the cracks of life for Sylvain, and soon he finds himself coming face-to-face with the Shelby gang, and ghosts from his past.

It was no secret that Thomas Shelby wasn’t Cece’s favourite person in the world. Yes, he was like kin to her partner. And yes, she had to admit for the most part he always protected family. But she still didn’t like him. Her views on him further tainted as more people get dragged into the dangerous world he calls home. So it’s a little surprising for her when he asks for her to work with him in the political world after she’s tried pulling more than one person out from his orbit.

Harry Potter preference for how your OCs and their love interest(s) like to cuddle?

Cecily Griffins: Cecily and Minerva are the cuddle on the sofa, blanket over their laps with warm cups of tea kind of couple. Cozy to the max, and it’s their favorite way to unwind after a trying day.

Chandra Loriss: With Lucius not being much of a cuddler, it takes him a bit to warm to Chandra's need for physical closeness. That being said, he does grow quite fond of lying in bed with her head on his chest.

Harmony Bainbridge: When it comes to Harmony, Bellatrix and Narcissa it’s always some form of haphazard cuddle pile. Narcissa prefers something calmer, but adapts pretty well to any assortment of potentially uncomfortable positions, knowing Bellatrix, and to a lesser extent, Harmony, are both quite fidgety.

Kali Hawthorne: Draco is definitely touch starved, so when Kali throws her arm over him as they lay next to each other, it’s a bit alarming to him at first, but he settles into it nicely and it becomes a sort of guilty pleasure for him to cuddle with her like that.

Lissette Serpens: It’s a very protective thing for Snape when he cuddles with Lissette. His arms will fully encircle her and she’ll tuck her head in the crook of his neck, feeling incredibly safe in his arms.

Livia Larkwood: Spooning is the way to go for Livia and Rita. Livia usually prefers being the big spoon, but she’ll happily be the little if Rita asks her to be. She loves that intimate feeling of protectiveness and possessiveness she gets when she holds her like that.

Lydia Hawthorne: They like to be thoroughly wrapped up in each other. Limbs tangled, hands in hair, etc. It’s like she and Barty simply cannot be close enough to one another. It’s strange, at times uncomfortable, but it is so intrinsically them.

Olivette Littletree: Any sort of extended hugs are Olivette and Molly's go to cuddle positions. If it’s just a good old bear hug at the end of a tiring day or a sort of side hug as they go for a walk together, anything like that is really great for them both.

Primrose Catts: Sybill gets a little overwhelmed by touch sometimes, so very close cuddles aren’t always an option. So, cloud watching or stargazing while laying side by side is usually a happy medium for them both. There’s still that physical closeness, but without excessive and constant touching.
