.Whiskey. So forgive the long post and the large images, but I want to bring some awareness to this because most people don't even know July is Disability Pride.
I am a disabled writer, and you probably wouldn't have even guessed that if I didn't say anything just now. Because most people don't. And it's because people seem to have a stereotype on disability, and I've noticed on here most people seem to only talk about mental disabilities like autism for example. There's a lot of physical ones too like mine, caudal regression syndrome is a rare spine deformity that occurs at a rate of 1 in 60,000 to 100,000 as I mentioned in previous posts. Basically what it means is my spinal column didn't develop all the way and it caused other complications like nerve damage to my bladder and muscle weakness in my legs and I have only 1 kidney which is actually really common with caudal regression. It's often mistaken for Cerebral Palsy or Spina Bifida which I've mentioned before, but it's not the same thing as my brain and spinal cord were not affected, it was the bones and muscles themselves and some of the nerves in my spine.
My spine ends at the Lumbar region.
Which means I'm missing that fused plate, the sacrum, and the coccyx or tailbone.
And the other main thing it messed with is the muscle tone in my legs and some of the nerves, I don't have as much feeling in my legs and feet as most people do, but this is just my case. There's a lot of different forms of it and different severity levels, and mine is around a level 3 or so.

Why is it the disableds are always left out of the “marginalized lists.” Like when people are listing off what representation is needed, they always forget disabilities.
Every. Fucking. Time.
I am TIRED of being an afterthought!
OUR REPRESENTATION MATTERS, TOO!

Breaking Barriers: The Story of Zion Clark
Zion Clark’s journey is nothing short of remarkable. Born with caudal regression syndrome, a condition that caused him to have no legs, Zion refused to let his physical challenges define his life. His mantra: "No excuses." This powerful mindset has propelled him through hardships, foster homes, and seemingly insurmountable obstacles to become a world-class athlete and an inspiration to many.
From a young age, Zion fell in love with wrestling. Despite the challenges, his incredible upper-body strength, determination, and mental toughness allowed him to compete against fully able-bodied athletes. His athletic prowess doesn't stop there—he’s also a competitive track star, breaking records in the wheelchair racing world.
youtube
What makes Zion stand out isn’t just his athletic achievements. It’s his relentless positivity, his refusal to be limited by the cards he’s been dealt, and his unwavering belief that adversity can be turned into strength. His story teaches us that no matter the circumstances, you have the power to rewrite your narrative.
Now, as a motivational speaker, Zion shares his story with the world, empowering others to conquer their own obstacles. His message? Resilience, courage, and belief in oneself can truly change the game.

Zion Clark, fighter born without legs, considers Jon Jones and Jordan Burroughs inspirations in his career
Zion Clark, who was born without legs due to a rare birth defect known as Caudal Regression Syndrome, has served as an inspiration throughout his life after overcoming odds on his way to becoming a wrestling champion, a Guinness Book of World Records holder, and now a 1-0 mixed martial artist. The 25-year-old Ohio native got here through sheer hard work and dedication, but as he continues setting…

.Whiskey. Back from the doctor's and going to attempt writing. But medical tw and rant tw under the cut first.
So apparently my last doctor was fired for lying on insurance papers. She had me marked down as a quadrapalegic with severe cerebral palsy. I have never had anything like that in my entire life. The only time paralysis was even mentioned in my entire past was the doctor who oversaw my mother's pregnancy warning her that with spinal cord deformities and spine diseases that paralysis was always possible, there was a chance I could have been born with it but I wasn't. And even one look at my medical history will tell any doctor that I have never had cerebral palsy, (which for those who don't know is basically a brain injury caused by lack of oxygen in the womb) what I have is a sister disease to cerebral palsy and spina bifida. I have Sacral Agenesis (missing the Sacrum of the spine) caused by Caudal Regression Syndrome. Basically big long fancy words to explain there's a deformity to my spine itself, I am missing bones in my spine. Literally that's all it means. Spina Bifida - spinal cord deformity Cerebral Palsy- brain injury Caudal Regression Syndrome- spinal column deformity
There's a huge difference there!
And I am not paralyzed at all, I walk wearing KAFOs, knee, ankle and foot orthotics, AKA leg braces because I have muscle weakness from the knee down.
She marked me down as having Cerebral Palsy and paralysis because my insurance would pay higher for it because Caudal Regression is harder to prove because it's rarer. Cerebral Palsy occurs in the US alone at a rate of 3 children in every 1000 births.
Caudal Regression Syndrome (which is what I actually have) occurs at a rate of 1-3 out of every 60,000 to 100,000 births in the US. (much rarer than Cerebral Palsy.)
Rant aside, going to refill my coffee and get to work. I'm just really pissed she ripped off my insurance because she wasn't even marking my diagnosis correctly!

Caudal regression syndrome, or sacral agenesis (or hypoplasia of the sacrum), is a rare birth defect. It is a congenital disorder in which the fetal development of the lower spine—the caudal partition of the spine—is abnormal.[1] It occurs at a rate of approximately one per 25,000 live births.
Some babies are born with very small differences compared to typical development, and others have significant changes. Most grow up to be otherwise normal adults who have difficulty with walking and incontinence.
Sacral agenesis syndrome (agenesis of the lumbar spine, sacrum, and coccyx, and hypoplasia of the lower extremities) is a well-established congenital anomaly associated with maternal diabetes mellitus (not gestational diabetes). However, other causes are presumably involved, as demonstrated by the rare incidence of caudal regression syndrome (1:60,000) compared to diabetes.
