Some Favourite Selfships!!! (Part 1/2)

I do a lot of reblog games, but I wanted to strike out on my own and pay homage to some of my favourite couples in the selfship community! Some of these are a bit vintage and folks have moved on to new F/Os, but these ones are in my heart and I hope you'll still appreciate the art <3

Hehe, I think that says it all about them, finally convincing Dean to listen to his heart and not fear ruining his friendship with his best friend, Castiel, because he reciprocated.

Dean thinks about the night they met a lot. Most of the time, he thinks it’s hilarious how freaked out he’d been, how convinced he was that Castiel was some sort of ancient, cosmic horror. Castiel doesn’t find it nearly as funny. The conversation goes the same way every time:

I wasn’t trying to scare you, Dean. I was trying to make an impression. Dude, you burned your handprint into my shoulder. And you stabbed me, which I believe makes us even.

And Dean could keep going, pointing out Pamela’s eyes—I warned her, Dean—and the multiple blown-out windows—I apologize for hoping the Righteous Man, whom I had just resurrected, would be able to understand me—and how he knocked out Bobby—who was fine, and woke up well-rested—but he usually lets it go.

Until the time when Dean, bored and left to his own devices, finds Castiel reading in the bunker’s library. “Hey,” he leans over the back of the angel’s chair, just to be obnoxious. “Remember when you branded my arm?” He’s expecting the familiar quip back.

Instead, Castiel replies without even glancing up from his book. “I believe that was what humans call ‘calling dibs.’”

Dean chokes. “You—you called dibs on me?”

And here Castiel hums and nods, finally looking up at a flustered Dean. “Yes. So you can imagine how disappointed I was when you stabbed me.”

“No, hang on—” Dean shakes his head, refusing to let it go, and moves to sit down next to Castiel. “What does that even mean?”

“You stabbing me? I was confused as well.”

“Calling dibs, smartass.”

Castiel sighs and closes his book. “It marked your soul as under my protection. It was a warning to the other angels to stay away from you. You have a beautiful soul, Dean, it was in very high demand.”

Dean should be used to the way Castiel says these kinds of things by now, so matter of fact. His chest still tightens every time.

He doesn’t mention the compliment. “Yeah, well, it’s not like they listened.”

Castiel moves his eyes off him, fixes his gaze over Dean’s right shoulder. He frowns slightly, lost in thought. Remembering. “No.” he sighs. “But most of them probably wish they had.”

They’re both silent for a moment before Dean, trying to stop the conversation from becoming even more somber, starts up again. “Why’d you take it off, then? After Stull. I wasn’t good enough to have dibs on anymore?”

The angel turns his frown to Dean, who realizes it isn’t as light-hearted a question as he thought it would be. “Of course you were. But you’d become more than just a soul in my charge. And I had already carved protection sigils into your rib cage, and I thought—” he cuts off and takes a deep breath. Drops his eyes from Dean’s. “I needed to let you go. I hoped that if you lo—if we had the bond I hoped we did, you would decide to come back to me.”

Dean sucks in a breath. It’s not something they talk about, this decade-long thing between them. Lately, he’s been thinking that maybe they should start.

He reaches across the space between them to take one of Castiel’s hands in his own. “Hey. I did, didn’t I?”

The angel turns his hand in Dean’s to lace their fingers together, and for the first time in the conversation, he smiles. Dean thinks he could live forever in that smile. “Yes. You did.”

-Severus is a bone monster. 0.5% body fat. cuddling him is very ill advised. I do it anyway

-He keeps his nails very short and neat since he works with his hands so much and it’s honestly hilarious to see this pale mess of a man giving himself a manicure

-Gabriel has beautiful freckles on his arms, chest, and back. I want to kiss every single one and cry

-Castiel’s hair gets lighter in the summer and very scruffable <3

-Hans started going prematurely gray in his 30’s but it worked so well for him that he just let it happen and we’re all very lucky for that

-Castiel has four wings and Gabe has six. Gabe’s are bigger but Cas has longer feathers so it’s hard to compare their wingspan (not that that matters)
