I have a friend who lives in North Carolina..

He and his home survived the hurricane but much of the surrounding area was devastated. There is no power and the water supply has been shut off. Fortunately he is a very prepared individual and has a generator, stores of water and shelf stable food. He managed, despite a lack of cell and landline service to get word to his daughter who is a student at U of MD that he and his wife were OK. The daughter is the one who told me.

There are three retailers that are open and doing business; a grocery store, a general store, and a hardware store. However without power and phone service these stores cannot accept electronic payments. The stores apparently will extend $20.00/day credit to customers who can present a local driver's license or other ID. But in a Biden-Harris America $20.00 does not go very far.

The point: Overdependence on "Cashless" commerce is a national security threat and a threat to self reliance. Do not let them force a cashless society upon you.

sweden (one of the closest countries to become truly cashless, with less than 8% of transactions in cash) turned from one of the safest into one of the most dangerous countries in europe, in terms of money fraud and robbery in the past 5 years.

use cash. its not only better mentally to grasp how much you spend, but also better in terms of privacy and security.

and if you have to use cc for a transaction use apple pay/google pay, while yes, apple and google would be able to track your transactions, it is way safer in terms of security, and reduces the area of attack on your credit card.

I’m doing it: I’m reintegrating the use of cash into my life. Card fees are an insidious social disease that benefit only the banks who impose them. Cash can’t be tracked. When the internet goes down in a shop, it’s the only way to pay for things. You can’t spend more than you have, and you can’t get caught out by direct debits swiping your cash when you weren’t expecting it.

I’m giving up some of the convenience of card (not across the board, but in more of my everyday shopping) so I can experience again the freedom and fee-free goodness of real notes and coins in my hand. Going retro is, I believe, an important step for society to take across many domains, if we’re to undo some of the many messes we’ve made of our planet and our society.
