Thunder knocked me, made me in the grass,
listen. To the embarrassing color of the sky in what remains of the day. Call it gloaming, immediately. I want it to burn like I want everyone to put it down. I want to use it because I like it. Folded
into the video. Tight
where it counts. Delusional, and yes, unshaved.
Mimosa. I could suck the glint until it shocks me into
goddamn.
That a bruise can bloom into something with soul, I understood, because while magenta came undone, I listened. This time,
baby. Hammered with something to show for it. Photogenic thigh I have to arrange to let you see. No one does, or asks. I wait, still,
like a dog. I know how to coax juice from cherries. Practicing in tights. You have to be gentle. Angel, believing, or having faith, or knowing an option with manners. Ideally with flowers. I thought I could wear this dress. I thought I could sing in it. Nothing dangerous enough,
hot enough,
to quiet down. You, inside, where light gathers, elegantly, around the karaoke machine. Me, this time, being good.
I want to say,
the hell do you intend, conspiring with a kind of divine I thought we edged until, finally, it began,
and I thought we decided, no blood, no hustle, but desire so atonal that we heave it into the yard, go with it
like the hunting
dogs we are, forever calibrating our stamina toward the source of light.
How useless I become in the presence of a threshold, resistant to reading the room,
conceding to my every vice in a single
swallow.
Glory to the weekend,
deteriorating. Glory to the zodiac, I happen to be waiting,
cicada inside my mouth. Required, in order to belt it, which will make it less like honey,
more like shit. No one coming in from the kitchen, or doing anything, to prepare. Is it romantic,
or is it fake as heat lightning.
Bend me in that direction. No one else would with razor wire.
Pin me with a blade
where it matters, hammer down the same
silver. Against the earth.
I like what I like.
Thong dangling where a wind chime belongs.
How much, baby, will I owe in the morning,
for the damage.

Even though Callum turns out to be a little shit to all the other kids in the Dark Domain, I still feel really bad for him :(((
He had a really fucked-up home life with his dad Philip Brown being a massive dickhead to him and Caroline. Not to mention the trauma he suffered here being kidnapped by Rayner who attempted to use him as his new vessel.
Even though the image of people beating up old man Simon Fairchild to death is hilarious after the apocalypse ended, my mind almost always goes to thinking about Callum and all the other kids on Night Street. I hope Callum wasn’t treated too harshly after the apocalypse ended 😭😭😭
Yeah poor kid. The whole avatars vs. Victims lines being blurred really shows with his story

tagged by: @spacewives-in-spacetime in this post (who already knows I'm wordy as crap so all of this is your fault)
three ships: OTP: Doctorriver (from Doctor Who, all incarnations), BatCat (Batman/Catwoman), SasuSaku (Sasuke/Sakura from Naruto/Boruto)
I am a huge romantic. Romance, to some capacity, is required in almost every story I read or watch. As a result, I have a lot of couples I like. But shipping is another level of interest. So I decided to go with these three because I spent the most money on them lol. I've bought comics, audio dramas, books, and boxsets. And for those wondering why I didn't put Klaus/Caroline from TVD...they broke my heart that's why. :(
last song: Over the Love by Florence and the Machine
last movie: Avatar 2
currently reading: *takes a deep breath*
Ariadne: The Novel. Literally just finished this morning, so my frustration is still fresh. I absolutely adore the story of Ariadne and Bacchus. I almost wrote a novel based on them when I was 19 but I decided not to continue. But because I am so familiar and fascinated by them, I should not have bought this book. The book itself is fine. It was just a mismatch of expectations.
Yes, in the Greco-Roman myths, there is a running theme that some individuals are heroes to men but dogs to women. And there are few variations to Ariadne's story, so one never knows which direction the author will go. But there is more to Ariadne than being a perpetual victim to all the men in her life. At least, to me, there is. This is why, if I have doubts, I usually check the middle of a book before I buy it. I checked this time too, and I thought I was safe, but it was actually the last pages that ruined it for me.
I wanted to read the liberation and empowerment of Ariadne, her conversion from the naive, discarded princess to the triumphant Libera, the ascendant goddess whose name literally means free; the woman who latched hold of a once in a lifetime opportunity and carved a place for herself in the halls of Olympia after her lover, Theseus, abandoned her to starve to death on the shores of Naxos; the Libera who watched, enthroned, as her would-be killer suffered a series of mishaps and fell from grace in the eyes of gods and man.
And were all those mishaps accidents? Or curses? And if so, by whom? Her? Bacchus? Another deity? Is Ariadne foolish or cunning, haughty or generous, vengeful or forgiving? There are so many routes her story can go. However, this book does not take the route of the empowered Libera. It has a negative character arc, which - again - is fine, just not for me. Unless it's about the protagonist turning into the villain in which case it's 100% for me.
Other books I'm currently reading because I do not read one book at a time: Francine Rivers's The Lady's Mine; Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None; Tom Baker's Scratchman; James Patterson and Emily Raymond's The Girl in the Castle; and Jacqueline Rayner's Legends of Camelot.
And don't get me started on the endless list of ongoing manga/manhua I read monthly.
currently watching: Nothing really. I've been meaning to watch the latest season of You. And I've rewatched a couple Doctor Who eps for research (fanfic) purposes. But I don't really watch tv anymore, at least I don't regularly follow any tv shows like I used to.
currently consuming: electrolyte water as prescribed
currently craving: Food. I'm hungry but I don't want to cook. But guess who promised to cook today? Me.

Sequels and retellings, mostly.
Also read: Circling Back to You by Julie Tieu and “Death of Snow” by Tansy Rayner Roberts.
Reread: Fangirl and Carry On by Rainbow Rowell.
Total: Eleven novels (including one audiobook), one graphic novel, one short story collection and one short story.
My favourites: The Swallows’ Flight (perspicacious and poignant and vividly-written), Return of the Thief (tense, with twists and revelations I didn’t anticipate and a satisfying ending) and “Winter Songs for Summer” in Scattered Showers (the early noughties tech made me nostalgic and Summer’s relationship with music was interesting).
I’d also recommend: Ten Thousand Stitches, Great or Nothing, Fangirl vol. 2, Scattered Showers and If the Shoe Fits.
Cover thoughts: The covers for both The Swallows’ Flight and Great or Nothing are lovely. I like the internal illustrations for Scattered Showers more than its cover. I think I would have read Return of the Thief sooner if its cover were less ominous.
Titles, authors, genres and ratings listed below, with links to my reviews on LibraryThing.
The Swallows' Flight by Hilary McKay. Children’s historical fiction about growing up during the 30s and WWII, set in England and Germany. 4☆
Naughty Dragons Try School! by Natalie Jane Prior (illustrated by Simon Howe). Sequel to Naughty Dragons Make Trouble! Children's fantasy. 3½☆
Ten Thousand Stitches by Olivia Atwater. Romantic Regency fantasy about a housemaid who receives an offer of help from a faerie lord. Same world as Half a Soul. 3½☆
If the Shoe Fits by Julie Murphy. Contemporary retelling of Cinderella, about participating in a dating reality TV show. Single POV. 3½☆
By the Book by Jasmine Guillory. Contemporary retelling of Beauty and the Beast, about an editor's assistant and an uncommunicative author. Single POV.
“Death of Snow” by Tansy Rayner Roberts. Murder mystery retelling of Snow White. Short story.
Great or Nothing by Joy McCullough, Caroline Tung Richmond, Tess Sharpe and Jessica Spotswood. A retelling of the later part of Little Women, set during WWII. 3½☆
Circling Back to You by Julie Tieu. Contemporary office romance.
Fangirl: the manga (volume 2), adapted by Sam Maggs and Rainbow Rowell and illustrated by Gabi Nam. Part 2 of 4, adapting Rowell's novel about a fangirl at college. 3½☆
Scattered Showers by Rainbow Rowell. A collection of nine short stories. Three stories revisit characters from her novels. Most are romantic. 4☆
Four Kings by Karan K Anders (aka Andrea K. Höst). Sequel to The Book of Firsts. A very low-key sort of book about uni students who have the resources to pursue their passions -- in terms of their studies, artistic ambitions, paid work and unconventional relationships. 3☆
Return of the Thief Megan Whalen Turner. Fantasy. Final Queen's Thief book. 4☆

(disclaimer: the Welcome to Somewhere Else universe belongs to @sm0kebreaks @kerink and game-warden. all i have is thoughts and theories)
had some thoughts regarding Callum in WTSE universe, which was prompted by some weird dreams last night (the heatwave and a weird subconscious causes some really ultra weird dreams)
for example "when does he come in?" well, i figured Callum enters Night Vale's universe significally later than Jon and Martin.
think of the distance between Night Street and the Panopticon. 27 episodes between MAG 173 and MAG 200. i would say it's less than half of JonMartin's journey. so the collapse of the Panopticon and the Fears being dragged to "somewhere else" took longer, depending on where in the Fearpocalypse they were.
so Callum appears in Night Vale between Acts 3 or 4, i assume (i may eventually ask the actual WTSE creators about this, but working up my courage cause I'm very shy)
my second take is "what does Rayner to do with this"
allow me to explain.
we don't know for certainty what happened with Rayner in canon. Jon referred him as "died in the light", but i thought his line was more of an assumption than actual truth when Jon interrogated Callum in MAG 173.
this is what happened with Callum: Maxwell Rayner and his ritual to bodyhop Callum failed, in Basira's statement. Callum was saved by Basira and the police that signed Section 31. but Rayner didn't die because he was missing a body to die in, so he had already bodyhopped Callum but the light saved Callum from being taken over,so Rayner lived inside his soul like a parasite.
and he heavily influenced Callum pre- and post- Change.
but as Callum lands in Night Vale, Rayner doesn't need a body to freely exist so a mistake is made when Callum and his friends do an "experiment" that involves an Ouija Board (kids, seriously. do NOT try this, not even in Night Vale). so Rayner frees himself from his vessel, but is still plans his Ritual and wants to take Callum's life as a sacrifice.
the whole Callum vs. Rayner is an mini-act on itself and touches on Callum's relationships with his new dads, especially Cecil.
the third point, "which dad is Callum closest to?"
simple answer? it's Cecil. but Callum is close to all his four dads on equal, different levels. but he has the strongest bond to Cecil.
Callum and Cecil share a bond because it was Cecil who saved his life when Cal was starving to death in Night Vale. and then saved his life a second time when Cal was nearly taken by Rayner. and Callum has 80s vibes as guilty pleasure which Cecil indulges in wholeheartedly. such as aerobics, listening to music on cassette tapes and of course, shopping in the Night Vale Mall.
and the last and fourth question "what happened to Callum's mother, Caroline Brodie?"
easy. she was killed by the Spiral in Helen's "hotel" in the Fearpocalypse. Caroline was searching for her son, got tricked and trapped in Helen's Spiral Hotel where she got herself devoured. a "fragment" of Caroline existed deep within Callum, once he allowed the Eye to take him as an acolyte.
in the Rayner Arc, Cecil dives into Callum's subconscious with Jon's help and to find him (Cal is possessed at this point and unresponsive). Cecil meets with the fragment that is Caroline Brodie and it's revealed she managed to plit and send a small part of herself to her son before she was devoured by the Distortion. Caroline gets the story of what happened to Callum so far and asks Cecil of only one favor: to take Callum as his son, protect and love him until the end of time.
Cecil finds that to save Callum, he needs to make Cal realize he is loved and cherished by his family and it throws Rayner off-guard.
the difference between Rayner and Jon, to an extent, is they're both actual eldritch monsters feeding on fear. but Rayner is completely incapable of understanding love while Jon embraces love as a infinite force that no fear can destroy.
short answer is Cecil decides to honor Caroline Brodie's last wish before she faded into nothingness (or the eternal infinity, as Cecil calls it).
and my point with all this that Callum is a 13 year old boy who got traumatized by an old evil regency eldritch monster and needed to find his path of healing, but not before getting himself lost and then finding the right people who could love and support him, like an actual adult should've done.

Arrowverse Update 2021:
I am doing one more of those before the new Seasons are rolling in, because we got major news about one project and some more bits about everything else, so… let’s start with the bad news and then continue with the rest:
Green Arrow and the Canaries
Is officially dead. It is currently unknown if and how we are going to get a resolution of the cliffhangar from the Backdoor-Pilot and its other open plot-threads. Yes, we were promised that all of this would get resolved somwhere else, if the show would not get picked up, however that was one year ago. Since then a lot has changed.
The main problem is that the project was just buried a couple of days ago, meaning that there is no chance for anything of this to be resolved in this TV-Season, which is already completly planned through for all the Arrowverse-Shows (and even half filmed already in some cases). The other problem is that a good portion of the people responsible for „Green Arrow and the Canaries“ is not a part of the current Arrwoverse anylonger. Yes, Marc Guggenheim could come back just to do a Crossover that resolves all that is still open, but why would The CW want its next Crossover Event to revolve around a never picked up show? There would have to be something else in that Crossover Event, provided one of those could even happen any time soon. As for doing just a singular episode the problem is where. The shows with ties to „Green Arrow and the Canaries“ might not be around any more or be in their final season by the time such an episode could be made, and all of the shows might again get shortened seasons, so the producers are going to have other priorties for their own shows in the next year.
So we might not get a resolution to „Green Arrow and the Canaries“ at all. On Televison that is. There is the alternate route though: A Comic Continuation.
As of now however it’s way to early to know anything for sure though. They are looking into it, but as I said, things are a lot more complicated right now, then they were a year ago.
youtube
Batwoman
Season two is rolling around in a few days, therefor they released a new accurate synopsis and The CW has been and is still putting out a lot of promo material. You can watch most of it on Youtube.
A couple of days after I wrote my last one of these, it was reported that Christina Wolfe will be part of the main cast this season. In other news, we also were told that we will get yet another version of Victor Zsasz. The Arrowverse-Version will be played by Alex Morf.
Also David Ramsey will guest star as John Diggle and also direct an episode (but probably not the same one). And yes, this might be the Crossover Episode. However is has to be said that is has become awfully quite around that illusive „Batwoman“/“Superman&Lois“-Crossover. Given the news about David Ramsey being in all shows, it might have been replaced by a Diggle-Storyline that goes through all the shows including „Batwoman“. We will have to wait and see.
The Season opener will go into Kate Kane’s fate (without her being in it though) and Gotham will have to confront the False Face Society and new drug called Snakebite in the opening episodes. The tone of the new Season might be drastically different from before, there are hints for that, and I am not speaking about BLM instead of LGBT-issues. The words „goofy“ and „fun“ are kind of present, if you know what I mean, however this could just be promotion.
As for the episodes:
2.01 „Whatever happend to Kate Kane?“ (Directed by: Holly Dale, Written by: Caroline Dries, Airdate: January 17 2021)
2.02 „Prior Criminal History“ (Written by: James Stoteraux & Chad Fiveash)
2.03 „Bat Girl Magic“
2.04 „Fair Skin, Blue Eyes“ (Directed by: Menhaj Huda, Written by: Ebony Gilbert)
2.05 „Gore on Canvas“
Black Lightning
Everyone is still very tighlipped about the final Season of „Black Lightning“. So I have nothing new, apart from titles (which are in line with the previous seasons and therefore not telling us anything, if we are honest):
4.01 „The Book of Reconstruction: Chapter One“ (Airdate: February 8 2021)
4.02 „The Book of Reconstruction: Chapter Two“
4.03. „The Book of Reconstruction: Chapter Three“
4.04 „The Book of Reconstrucion: Chapter Four“
4.05 „The Book of Ruin: Chapter One“
4.06.
4.07 „Painkiller“-Backdoorpilot
The Flash
So, yes, someone on the Production Team was tested posivite, and they had to shut down the production for a short period of time because of this, but it remained a pretty isolated case (or so it seems) and the production did resume. To make up for the lost time the Christmas Break was shortend, and they are back to filming already, so no need to worry, everthing is on schedule.
This season will see the return of John Diggle to Central City. David Ramsey will also direct an episode (but probably not the same one). We will also see the return of the Meta-Human Task Force, which will clash with Frost. This storyline will also involve Joe. Eric Wallace has hinted before that there will be a storyline involving the police and abuse of power with Joe in it, and I did assume it would be BLM-storyline, however this is „The Flash“, so this storyline might be what he talked about instead, and we might get a Meta-Human are being hunted and abused-Storyline as a substiute.
As for the first couple of episodes:
7.01 „All’s Wells that Ends Wells“ (Airdate: Feburary 23 2021)
7.02. „The Speed of Thought“ (Airdate: March 2 2021)
7.03 „Mother“ (Airdate: March 9 2021)
7.04 „Central City Strong“( Airdate: March 16 2021)
7.05 „Fear Me“ (Airdate: March 23 2021)
youtube
Superman & Lois
The new Morgan Edge is in and it will be Adam Rayner, who will inherit the role from Adrian Pasdar. We also learned that Joselyn Picard will play the other Cushing-Lang-Daughter Sophie. Reporters we will get to meet on the show not only include Ron Troupe but also Chrissy Beppp played by Sofia Hasmik, while Leslie Larr played by Stacey Farber will be a cold former idealist, probably tied to Morgan Edge, and presumable an antagonist.
David Ramsey will guest star as John Diggle somewhen this season and will direct an episode as well. He will make his way through most of the shows (as Diggle) and might be the Crossover-Factor of this season. Even though the „Batwoman“/“Superman & Lois“-Crossover is not officially of the table, we haven’t heard anything about it in a while, so maybe this actually is it.
We got a proper look at the new suit and also the first real trailer, which is … unusal. More artsy then revealing, but is around one and a half months until the season starts, so there will be another trailer coming out soon.
The first couple of episodes:
1.01 Pilot (Directed by: Lee Toland Krieger, Written by: Greg Berlanti, Todd Helbing, Airdate: February 23 2021)
1.02 „Heritage“ (Airdate: March 2 2021)
1.03 „The Perks of Not Being a Wallflower“ (Airdate: March 9 2021)
1.04. „Haywire“ (Directed by: James Bamford, Airdate: March 16 2021)
1.05 „The Beacon“ (Airdate: March 23 2021)
Legends of Tomorrow
Aliyah O’Brien will guest star as Kayla a fearsome deadly alien warrior in this season, who won’t be to happy about the Legends, because she is a pro, and they are …. well … the Legends. David Ramsey will also guest star this season, however he won’t be playing John Diggle, but another role instead. Who or what this other role will be remains a mystery. He could play Diggles ancenstor or descendant, if time travel is still an element in Season 6, or a shape shifting alien or an illusion, however they could also go full prosthetics and have him playing a character with no connection to Diggle at all.
David Ramsey will also direct an episode this season. Caity Lotz did already direct an episode, Episode 5, and given that she tweeted about the strain of directing and acting at the same time, we will see more of Sara in this episode than in last year‘s „Mortal Khanbat“. However still expect less Sara in Episode 4 and 5 than usual.
There was an early air-date floating around for „Legends“, which proofed to be a mix-up. Don‘t expect Season 6 (or any mid-season replacement for that matter) before the end of May, and even that would be early.
As for the episodes:
6.01 „ Ground Control to Sara Lance“ (Directed by: Kevin Mock, Written by: James Eagan & Mark Bruner)
6.02 „Meat: The Legends“ (Directed by: Rachel Talalay, Written by: Matthew Maala & Morgan Faust)
6.03 „The Ex-Factor“ (Directed by: David Geddes, Written by: Grainne Godfree & Tyron Carter)
6.04 „Bay of Squids“ (Directed by: Sudz Sutherland, Written by: Phil Klemmer)
6.05 „The Satanist’s Apprentice“ (Directed by. Caity Lotz, Written by: Keto Shimizu, & Ray Utarnachitt)
6.06 „Bishop’s Gambit“ (Directed by: Kevin Mock, Written by: James Eagan & Emily Cheever)
Supergirl
Here we are again, with crumbs only. I still can’t tell you anything with value that happens this season. A couple of casting tapes leaked, one involving a prison break plot, however there is no telling if this isn’t just a single scene that leads to something totally different or the beginning of an actual sub-plot. We do know however that Young Alex and Young Kara will make their return this season.
We also know, that „Supergirl“ is about the only show on this list that does not have a finished Episode 1 as of now. They might have one or two finished episodes around Episode 5 or 6, but that’s it.
The reason we know this is that even though they are up to Episode 6 with filming, just like the other Vancouver-based shows, they did start a lot later, meaning they did not film whole episodes. The other reason we know that is that Melissa is just returning to the show this months. And there is no way she won’t be in Episode 1. She might sit out a couple of episodes that star Young Kara and Young Alex instead, but there is no way she won’t be in the first six episodes at all.
We will also get less Alex this year, or tob e more accurate less Chyler. She is having her directorial debute this season. Episode 6 is her episode, and this is the one with Young Alex und Young Kara in it. However present day Brainy und Nia are also in it, so it won’t be a total Flashback Episode. However, expect Chyler Light Episodes 5-6. Episode 7 will be directed by David Harewood. David Ramsey will also direct an episode this season and will guest star as John Diggle, however probably not in the same episode.
Also Odette Annable is back for the final season in some capacity. Wether as Sam or as Reign or both and for how much is unknown at this point.
And yes, „Supergirl“ is also the only show on this, where I can’t give you an episode list, because this is all we know.
Yes, it is the final season and they are extra-tight-lipped because of that, and also as I said they don’t really have finished episodes at this stage, but still it would be nice, if someone up there in Vancouver or someone from the Writer’s Room would give us anything. But it seems like they are holding back with any kind of promotion at least until Melissa starts filming if not longer.

I really love the decision to make the Avatar for TMA 173 a kid because it really emphasizes the cruel and capricious nature of the Fears - in the end, the Avatars are just... traumatised people.
It’s a cycle of abuse.
They were afraid and so to escape that Fear, that terrible all consuming Fear that hunted them and pursued them and chased them and wanted them, they fed others to it instead and became the Feared.
From Jane Prentiss, who heard the song of the Hive and felt the itch down in her bones, who felt herself drawn to it without understanding it, terrified and desperate.
From Michael Crew, who traced the fractal lines of his scars until the the fractal lightning chased him through the streets, until ozone and pain dogged his every step until his only escape was into the arms of lightning and sky.
Jared Hopworth, who never liked his body, who was tall and strong but without a future, without hope. His body - his muscles, his bones, his blood - they were the only things he thought was worth it about him. He was afraid that was all he would ever have going for him and so what other choice did he have but to embrace that? What other choice did he have but to make others understand that?
Annabelle Crane, who was terrified of spiders, who wanted to do anything to stop fearing them. Oliver Banks, who ran from Death to the remotest point in the world. Tova McHugh who tried to be healthy only to die from a sudden seizure, who was willing to do anything to avoid the fate she realised was in store for her.
Even the Avatars who come to their Fear from a place of love and desire are filled with the fear of it. Hezekiah Wakely, who longed for the serenity of the restful slumber of the dead but terrified of what it meant. Simon Fairchild, who lost himself in the sky but only fell into it when he literally fell. Peter Lukas who was steeped in the Lonely from the moment he was born, who would’ve watched his siblings removed and all but disowned for being ‘loud’ and ‘sociable.
(I think more than anything Peter Lukas was secretly afraid of other people, of human connection, of wanting to connect, how fitting to be destroyed by being known, how cruel to be annihilated by the thing he hated most)
And now we have... Callum Brodie. Callum Brodie, who wasn’t a ‘nice’ kid to begin with. Callum Brodie, who was selected to be the next vessel for Maxwell Rayner and came face to face with that awful terror, that dreadful all consuming night that was Mr Pitch. Callum Brodie, who was chosen because his father had been directly marked by the Dark.
(There’s even an implication that his father could’ve been Philip Brown, who was marked by the Dark when it came to kill Robert Montauk, who became an abusive alcoholic after he was dismissed for his ‘negligence’ in that very same incident, but if the dates are accurate, Callum would’ve been born after his mother, Caroline Brodie, left his father. Of course, his father is dead according to Callum himself, and his mother... well. She probably wishes she was.)
Callum Brodie, who tried to act brave and tough but when the Beholding pressed, he cracked and revealed that he’d been terrified and afraid and he wanted others to feel what he felt.
#tma spoilers#the magnus archive spoilers#tma avatars#i just#i just love the avatars okay?#they're all awful and terrible but it's hard for me to hate them for that#because deep down#deep down all of them are hurt and scared#even the rich bougie assholes like peter lukas

For MAG 52: Exceptional Risk
I totally missed this factoid on my first time through, but the ex-wife of the statement giver is Caroline Brody! The statement giver, Phillip Brown, was visited by Maxwell Rayner shortly before disappearing. And twelve (ish?) years later, Rayner goes after the child Callum Brody. Did Rayner do anything to Brown in that visit to predispose Callum to the Dark?
I'm just impressed at the writing! Every name dropped in each statement could potentially link back to the main plot, and you have to be paying attention to catch it!
Yup! A father marked by the Dark must make it easier to be tracked down for later use by the Dark avatar so I'm assuming that helped

Okay i’ve been thinking about something regarding the meta of The Magnus Archives that i honestly have no idea how to describe succinctly. So i won’t even try to be succinct.
Spoilers for everything so far, and speculation on the finale and uhhhh... idk, read at your own risk i guess.
As we learn more and more in season 5, here’s which fears are getting to me in a meta sense:
The Web. Everything so far has been connected, and I don’t know how things will play out. From the very beginning of the podcast, every statement has had direct connections to entities. Jon flat-out didn’t even bother recording statements that didn’t have bad audio on modern equipment. Every single statement has relevance. A lot of statements have extremely subtle relevance. Example: In MAG 52 (Exceptional Risk), A man named Phillip Brown gives a statement on the day Robert Montauk was killed by Maxwell Rayner. Phillip Brown is mostly irrelevant, but his ex-wife was named Caroline Brodie. Phillip was most likely the father of Callum Brodie, who the People’s Church of the Divine Host tried to get possessed by Maxwell Rayner. And even tho that attempt failed, Callum is an avatar of the Dark. Robert Montauk’s arrest was first mentioned in MAG 9 (A Father’s Love), in a statement given by his daughter Julia Montauk, who later kidnaps Jon. Every episode with any connections has a LOT of connections. Any episode without major connections usually continues exploring the fears. Still connected, but only by association. The Web is all about how everything is connected.
The Eye. Obviously this one is relevant. The Panopticon is off in the distance, watching. Jon is watching. The Ceaseless Watcher is watching, ceaselessly. We’re listening. We’re experiencing the story using the same method Archivists are drawn to making recordings: cassette tapes.
The End. Also known as The Coming End That Waits For All And Cannot Be Ignored (which is very wordy). This specific name can be applied to the finale, which is looming over everything. We know its a tragedy, and it’s only a matter of time before the tragic end of the podcast. A big part of The End’s whole deal is the anticipation of inevitable death. And that anticipation can give so much dread.
The Desolation. This fear is all about loss and destruction, especially when something is destroyed before it can reach its potential. Every major character who died before season 5 has had a LOT of potential. Sasha and Tim especially. And that’s part of the tragedy for those two.
The Stranger. Because our only way of experiencing the story is via a slew of unreliable narrators, it’s hard to know what to trust and what to take with a grain of salt. Who’s telling the truth, and are they even aware of the truth? Who’s lying, and is it a lie or a misunderstanding of events? Or is it projection? Jon’s statements in season 5 are all heavily representative of Jon’s own fears.
None of this is me trying to make a point. I’m just making observations about TMA in terms of meta.
#tma#tma spoilers#i honestly odn't know why i felt the need to say all this#its just been on my mind i guess
