WHENEVER CARMY'S BROWS RAISE. JEREMY ALLEN WHITE. THE BEAR. ALWAYS and IRL
Whenever he raises his brow it's an intense stare at her or in her direction or to do with HER

All that time that you were gone, like, I was, you know, I would just be thinking about where you were and what you were doing and just like, I don't know, the experiences that you were having.

I will always be obsessed by Carmy’s obsession with what Sydney is wearing.

To be honest, it was not until my first rewatch of s4 where I basically only focused on Carmy’s thought process, that I really reminded myself he’s a deeply traumatized and repressed man.
This might sound like I’m babying him but not really. Evaluating his actions and words like we would do for any other young man (or even someone even slightly less traumatized lol) is not really helpful to understand him. And obviously will cause a lot of frustration.
And while he’s better now than last season he still hasn’t gone through the required healing to express his wants, desires, and feelings. I think this is the reason so much subtext is embedded in the show, they are showing us what he is feeling with that.I don’t really trust most things that come from his mouth until his fight with syd.
He doesn’t really have a framework of a healthy relationship, and what you are supposed to feel in one, so of course that half assed relationship with Claire is what he think is it. And all his family is backing up her too. So what did we expect lol.
Until he can realize by himself what he really wants and needs he’s going to be following the current. I think the end of s4 is pointing towards him trying to break from it and s5 should show us the outcome.
Carmy has to make a conscious choice when he’s able to identify and act on his emotions.

Do you guys ever stop and think that Richie might on a subconscious level resist Carmy? No mater how close Richie and Mikey might have been it’s not like Mikey and Carmy. Mikey probably talked about Carmy, how proud he is of his little brother, Mikey jokes how jealous he is of Carmy who not only knows what he wants to do but is so good at it. That Mikey was always close with Carmy the two of them always hanging out when Carmy was younger, even when Richie and Mikey did hang out chances are Carmy was there too.
Carmy is jealous of Richie too, that Richie could go out with Mikey and get drunk, meet girls do typical guy stuff. Stuff Carmy was always so shy and awkward to do with Mikey, while he was happy that Mikey liked cooking with him and hanging out that way Carmy wishes he could do more. He wants to be able to tell stories with Mikey like Richie does, maybe not on the same level but he wants to have fun with Mikey like Richie does. Carmy knows Mikey cooks with him because he likes it but more because that’s Carmys way of having fun, hanging out in the kitchen and laughing at stuff is how Carmy has fun. But Mikey is an extrovert and enjoys being out and meeting people and Carmy an introvert would rather die than do that so that’s where Richie comes in.
The two of them sort of competed for Mikey’s attention because Mikey is the glue that was holding both of them together but neither of them realized what Mikey was going through, both of them so dependent on Mikey that they didn’t stop and think about Mikey’s problems. Mikey felt like he couldn’t talk about his problems because he was so focused on being what the other needed.

I don't want to see Luca anywhere near Sydney in season 4.
If sydcarmy is happening, I don't want no romantic or platonic (pft) storyline with Luca for Syd.
For one, it makes no sense to spend time on a relationship that's going to end. And highkey, I especially wouldn't like if a romance happened only for there to be parallels to Carmen, or Luca is presented as a good viable option for Syd, only for her to get with Carmen anyway.
At this point, I just want the show to give sydcarmy or get the hell away lol. I'm over the multi-channel gaslighting of it not being there in the show and the parallels that many hope are actually going to mean something by the time the show ends.
Syd, Marcus, Ebra, Tina, Gary (and Manny and Angel that won't be getting any screen time atp) haven't got the time I think they deserve (Syd in particular, for the second main character where tf was she in S3? S2 I understand, but for real wtf was that?). That time would be better spent on them rather than a short-lived, reprieve-centred fling for Syd imo.
I wrote a post a while ago regarding sydcarmy after S3 and I still more or less agree with what I said, but in terms of plot, if Sydney is going to struggle along with Carmen when she chooses to stay at the bear, that's perfectly fine. But I don't want anymore ambiguity, "up to interpretation" bs when it comes to them. At least give me the opportunity to wave a satisfied fist in the air with blatant, confirmed romance between them at least, so I can say "the sydcarmy shippers told yall so", even if I don't particularly want it the same way.

kay right carmy al-anon speech let's go
"before i came to al-anon i was a cook. i'm still a cook i guess, just a different kind of cook" this for me is a really, really sad peek into how he thinks of himself. there are so many carmys, broken up by where he is and who he is and what's happened to him
also he says "cook" not "chef", probably feeling "chef" is pretentious -- probably due to his extended family's reactions to him being a chef
also he introduces himself as "Carmen" here, not Carmy, which is interesting. i'd love to know how he introduced himself in NYC, b/c in ep 1 we see him introduce himself to syd as "Carmy"
"let it rip" we've heard that so many times in the background as sort of an auditory hallucination from carmy that it makes sense that it was Mikey's phrase
the knowledge that carmy has a speech impediment is not even a little surprising -- he still has hesitation markers, especially when stressed, and it prolly reinforced the idea to richie et al that he was a baby
bad at school, bad at paying attention, bad with women, bad with humor -- he's hurling these one after another and, again with The Bear's excellence in hearing what characters don't say, you can get the sense that he thought Mikey was good at all of these things, and how could Carmy even begin to compare?
"I just wanted him to say good job!" oh honey
"and I think it's clear that me trying to fix the restaurant was me trying fix what was wrong with my brother" there's the thesis statement of s1, and Carmy coming to that conclusion makes so much sense -- out of his siblings (including Richie), he's the quiet, introspective, sensitive one -- an artist's temperament with a pugilist's temper. he knows what he's doing, he just can't express it, can't fix it
"that restaurant has, and does, mean a lot to people. it means a lot to me" -- it's why he reacts the way he does when sugar (and, implied there, his mother) blames the restaurant and says it makes people unhappy. to him, this restaurant isn't just an obligation, or a f//k-you from Mikey, or a distraction, or a place where he can cook -- it's something that Means something, it's a constant, it's an institution. i don't know how Mikey felt about it-- we may find that in S2, we might not -- but Richie and Carmy love the restaurant the same amount in different ways, and as long as that's true, some form of the Berzatto family restaurant will exist in Chicago
a final note for that speech -- it's an incredible performance, first of all, but that's obvious. it's also an incredibly risky scene, especially in a half-hour show (which The Bear is, despite the runtime of eps 7 and 8), to point the camera at an actor for seven minutes straight and say "go".
in any TV that's risky, in half hour tv it's riskier -- that's 1/3 of the show's runtime! -- and in a show that relies on movement, chaos (organized or otherwise) and quick cuts like The Bear does, it's incredibly risky. it pays off in full here, and i'm clapping it out. a+ for all involved

I don't know why we take these sydcarmy questions seriously when Jeremy and Ayo don't even know what is happening. They're along for the ride with us, which makes it even better for my shipping lifestyle. I don't need the actors telling me what they think will happen.

Finally finished s3 and whew... def the first half was more solid than the second one...
Napkins was great, lovely view into Tina's past.... until I saw someone point out it was sort of inconsistent with the story we have heard previously from Tina... which. true. and not great.
Legacy, Ice chips, Apologies, Forever.... soooooooo full of dialogue, to the point that. why are you telling me this. we have already discussed this. I rather you show me. pls in no more flashbacks. I don't get the extensive amount of flashbacks either ! !
Like is it lovely that we get to see Nat reconnect with her mom? Yeah! do I need a 30 min long conversation in one same place to get that? I don't know???? do I?????
I don't know.... sadly the reviews are kinda right and the second part feels stretched. Syd being poached could have brought so much drama, so much consequences and the only thing we get is anxiety. when. let's be real. Carmy has been so shitty to her that honestly I don't get why she didn't just took the opportunity. like her doubt would have made way more sense if there was actually something promising for her.. but like, girl, run. you deserve better!!!
more thoughts maybe in a future when i have processed it better.
