Maddie: Hm. It's not like I want to punch Kelsey, but I feel like she'd get it.

Ash: ....not sure Lexi would understand, so I'd probably have to talk her into it.

Gwen: I don't think so. Only if I really, really needed a million dollars, and they consented.

Noelle: Yeah, do you know how much a million could help out? Not enough to retire, but enough for a while. Anyone would understand that.

Rose: Mhm. You can get a lot with a million, including an apology. Besides, punching someone sounds a little fun. Wish it didn't have to be the best friend, but... Yeah.

Kelsey: I don't think I'd punch Maddie. Anyone else, I would definitely do it. That being said, Maddie would probably be okay with it...and for my family, sure.

Robbie: I would never punch Akash, plain and simple. We're well off enough, we don't need a million.

Akash: I do not want to punch Robbie. Frankly, this is a silly question. However, Robbie would most likely be okay with me punching him.

Hye-Jin: I feel like most people would be surprised to hear me say that I would. It's a million dollars. It would hurt both of us though, so we'd have to agree.

Carla: Only if I was really desperate.

George: I think Liam would be okay with it. He'd debate both sides, too.

Elemental is a delightful surprise...

I am generally a fan of anything Pixar. They probably have the best quality track record of any major studio in Hollywood. So I expected a minimum level of quality going into the movie, but the reviews for the film were more moderate than top tier Pixar. Frankly, after watching the movie, I am shocked that the reviews aren't higher because the movie is an absolute delight. A beautifully animated, visually stunning, and very fun and well meaning movie which was hilarious and moving at various points. The movie is a mixture of a romcom, a first generation immigrant story, and a self discovery story, and these elements are all juggled together due to a creation of some really likable characters. This is genuinely the best romcom that we have seen in years. Romcoms have become a rarity in theatrical release, but Elemental has all the ingredients of a good one. There is great chemistry between Ember and Wade, which made me really root for them. There are funny moments, genuinely romantic moments, and some heartbreaking moments between them. The first generation immigrant story is also heartwarming. There are little touches that work so well, like Bernie and Cinder having to keep names that are easier to pronounce in Element city, Bernie's english not being perfect, and having their own community and traditions, separated from the rest of Element city. The story of dealing with the pressure of expectations, and the battle between duty to your parents vs doing what you want is an evergreen story. If there is a ding against this film, it is that these are all stories and tropes that have been done before, including by Disney, and the metaphors are fairly obvious. But it honestly didn't matter to me because the execution was great. And frankly, these are stories that are always relevant. All the individual aspects of the story just work and there are numerous quite moving scenes. I will say that I was surprised by just how much the very ending scene moved me. Of course, being Pixar, the animation is breathtaking. The way they show emotions of Ember by how her flames ebb and flow is just a joy to watch. Element city is vibrant and full of color. There is a dance scene with Wade and Ember that is beautiful, romantic, and intimate, and a lot of credit has to be given to the design and animation of that scene.

All in all, I think Peter Sohn has done an excellent job with this film. It is definitely an improvement over The Good Dinosaur. The voice acting is stellar, particularly by Leah Lewis as Ember, Mamoudou Athie as Wade, and Ronnie del Carmen as Bernie. I hope that the film has legs and people watch it because it is worth watching. An 8.5/10.

i genuinely get pissed every time i find a good fic with a good concept good tags my favourite character and all of that, but then i get into the first para and it's some shit like "xyz, ever the curious one" or "the air became tense and charged" and it's so painfully obvious that it was written using ai like GOD what even is the point of writing when you're just gonna put in prompts into chatgpt and have it write your drabbles for you

My latest fic is out!

It's entitled "Reagan's Bold Move, Cognito's Kidnapping Plot, and Kim's Folly" and it continues my Cognito Files series, which I have posted about on this blog before! Here's the summary:

Reagan, as the CEO of Cognito, is dedicated to stop anything that gets in the way of the shadowy organization that she controls, whether that means assassinating villains (with the help of trigger-happy demons), kidnapping peace activists, or manipulating news media. She cares little about those impacted. One of those people is a college-bound orange-haired teenager named Kim Possible, whose friend Monique is kidnapped by Shego. The latter is working on behalf of Cognito with her mercenary organization, Green Hands Girl Enterprise. With help from her hacker friend, Wade, she attempts to save Monique from this secretive group. In the process, her friend Wade is taken by Cognito and she faces off against a mind-controlled international thief dressed in red when she arrived. Can Kim save her friends before it is too late? Or will Reagan be successful in controlling the world's benefit for those in the shadows? You'll have to read to find out!

Prosthetics designed for Julie Carmen as Regine Dandridge in Fright Night Part II (1988), sculpted by Brian Wade and Bart Mixon as part of Gene Warren Jr.'s Fantasy II Film Effects. The first image is an earlier sculpt by Wade that didn't make it into the film.

The mold casting for the prosthetics, performed by Wade and Mixon, proved to be a stressful experience for Carmen, inducing claustrophobia and causing her to have panic attacks. She jokingly claimed to Fangoria Magazine that she would add a clause to her contract forbidding her to ever have latex applied to her body again.
