DC Comics released a movie adaption of the Warner Brothers Batman movie with a cover date of August, 1989. It was written by the movie writer Sam Hamm and comic writer Denny O'Neil and with artwork (both pencils and inks) by Jerry Ordway. There are few minor differences and added scenes as the comic was made before the final cut of the film. ("Batman: The Official Comic Adaptation", DC Comic Event)

A particularly powerful mobster who took advantage of Gotham's bootlegging days and the money earned from them. Grissom is someone who is charming and charismatic but also sadistic and manipulative, he has ties to jack, two face, penguin, the joker, black mask, as well as the maroni and falcone crime familes
He's one of the many characters brought in from the Burton movies

The Old Man and the Nursery Garden | Carl Larsson
* * * * *
LeG’s response to Tennessee Williams’s comment about the world being persistently on fire:
"It’s not enough to love something–or someone. Of course you love a person or art or music or the theatre. But you have to imagine that this person or this thing is trapped in a house afire, and the fire is apathy, and the fire is ignorance, and you have to go into the house all the time, day after day, year after year, and put out the flames and save the thing you love and rebuild the house in which it lives, and show it to others who will come to the rescue when you no longer can. Love is cheap and silly–a moron can love ice cream–but devotion is something worth talking about.“
–Eva Le Gallienne/Interview with James Grissom/ [Follies Of God]

"I think it is best to face as a challenge getting through the next twenty-four hours as brilliantly, as truthfully, as clearly, and as kindly as you possibly can.
This is how goals are met; friends are made and retained; sanity is kept at a safe distance; your work matures; and you are seen in the clearest, truest light.
The acceptance of genius comes in the long-term, but the work that might be labeled as such is done in tiny, deliberate steps--in the next twenty-four hours."
- Martha Graham in an Interview with James Grissom

"An old alchemist gave the following consolation to one of his disciples: No matter how isolated you are and how lonely you feel, if you do your work truly and conscientiously, unknown friends will come and seek you."

One Villainous Scene - "As You Can See, I'm A Lot Happier"
youtube
Tim Burton's Batman is not a perfect adaptation of the source in the slightest, but as a movie? As a movie its entertaining, its structured well, the direction is great, the set and costume designs were pretty good, and by god Jack Nicholson's Joker is almost perfect. Between his colorful exterior against the darker colors of Gotham, his terrifying nature being contrasted by how hilarious he can be, his over-the-top yet functional arsenal, the consistent showcases of both his insanity and his brilliance, and just how damn quotable he is. Overall, Nicholson's Joker is just an icon who steals the show, and that's shown perfectly in just One Villainous Scene.
For context, before this clown ever got his wide smile he was Jack Napier, a psychotic gangster with an expertise in chemistry and art. Napier was the right hand man to local mob boss Carl Grissom, though he had zero respect for the old man and fully intended on backstabbing his boss at some point in the future (and taking his girl too). Though unluckily for Napier, Grissom would set his ass up to be killed in the Axis Chemical plant by some corrupt cops. While the cops didn't succeed in killing him, Jack had a run-in with The Batman, which ended with a chemical bath and a face lift that we don't even see yet. Long story short, Handsome Jack had a really. Bad. Day.
So while Grissom is just preparing to sit on his ass and have a drink, Jack appears right in his room, covered in shadows. At first the old mob boss tries to fake innocence, but Napier already knows that he set his ass up and points his gun at Grissom before he could grab his own. Grissom then threatens Jack, but he's unfazed, saying that he's been "dead" and that it's therapeutic. And after Grissom tries negotiating with his former right hand man, Jack steps out of the shadows. With the way this scene has been shot, you would expect Napier's face to be completely deformed, but instead of a hideout and monstrous appearance, we're shown something far more unsetting as he shows himself.
"You can call me Joker... and as you can see, I'm a lot happier."
After Joker reveals his chalk white skin, green hair, blood red lips, and permanent smile to both the viewer and Grissom, he proceeds to gun his old boss down as if he's showing off in a shooting gallery while a mixture between a waltz and carnival music plays in the background. And once the deed is done, he throws his hat in the air, laughs to himself, and just treats it like it's another day in the office.
This particular Joker has a lot of memorable scenes, but in terms of setting the bar and giving viewers a small insight into the fun menace this clown is going to be for the rest of the film, its a perfect introduction that's stayed with me for a long time.

Batman (1989)
"Batman" is a nostalgic film for most, but without having the same rose-tinted glasses, I can't look past its flaws.
Bruce Wayne has started fighting crime as Batman and things have been fairly tame. That is until Jack Napier is sent on a suicide mission by his boss, Carl Grissom, for sleeping with Grissom's mistress. Batman tries to stop Jack's mission, but it ends up with Jack falling into a vat of acid. Horrifically scarred from the experience, Jack embraces his new persona of The Joker.
I know for a lot of adults nowadays, "Batman" was their first introduction to the caped crusader. Because of this, they grew up thinking this was an accurate portrayal of Batman. A lot of them learned about the real Batman as he showed up in more movies and media, but they still give this movie a pass because it's nostalgic to them. Honestly, I get it. I felt the same way about Spider-Man after watching 2002's "Spider-Man". I grew up thinking Spider-Man was supposed to have organic web shooters. After learning about the real Spider-Man, I still look back at Tobey Maguire's version of Peter Parker fondly because that's the version I grew up with. However, I did not grow up with Tim Burton's Batman. I went into this movie already having a strong idea of who Batman is. Let me get the obvious gripes out of the way. This Batman kills. It completely goes against the character's moral compass, but I guess people didn't mind back then because it was grittier than the Adam West Batman they were used to. Also, the Batsuit looks good... but only when he's standing still. Seeing Micheal Keaton move in that suit is awkward and unintentionally hilarious at times. I remember laughing especially when he had to look up and was forced to move his whole torso. Also, I knew people grew to love Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne, but I don't really see it. He doesn't fit the character for me. Still, after all my criticisms, what's left is something still special. I could feel the sense of wonderment audiences must've felt back in 1989. The gadgets are delightful. The special effects are charming. The Batmobile is iconic. The fight scenes are surprisingly really good, even by today's standards. Jack Nicholson's Joker is really damn good too. This movie has a lot of heart and it was a treat to see when general audiences started seeing this character in a more serious light. It was super interesting to see how Tim Burton was able to play with expectations of Bruce's origin story because general audiences of that time weren't aware of it like they are now. As an accurate Batman film, this movie fails, but as its own interpretation, this Batman oozes with charm. Although I won't be a die-hard fan any time soon, I can't help but admit how fantastic the Danny Elfman score still is.

Batman Intimidation
by JosephFrostsGhost This is a story taking place between Batman ’89 and Batman Returns. Yes, I’m quite aware of Batman Resurrection, and I’ve been reading it. I’m half way through the book, and I’m rather disappointed in what’s been given. However, I was working on what I call regularly a script series called “The Sandwich Trilogy”, which was a trilogy of scripts that took place between those two Tim Burton movies long before Batman Resurrection was even considered a potential thing, and as such, I’ve decided to adapt my scripts into a novel or series of novels. This, unlike Resurrection, completely ignores Sam Hamm’s Batman ’89 and Echoes comic series. I do, however, utilize Sam Hamm’s old Batman 2 screenplay from years ago for aspects of this story. Words: 1274, Chapters: 1/1, Language: English Fandoms: Batman (Movies 1989-1997) Rating: Mature Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings Characters: Bruce Wayne, Vicki Vale, Jack Napier/Joker, Alexander Knox, Jonathan Crane, Harvey Dent, Max Shreck, Charles "Chip" Shreck, Jason Todd, Gilda Dent, Solomon Grundy (DCU), The Organ Grinder, The Poodle Lady, Alfred Pennyworth, James Gordon, Crispus Allen, Harrison Provost, Carl Grissom, Harleen Quinzel, Fred Atkins, Janice Porter, Thomas Wayne, Willis Todd, Catherine Todd, Mike Sekowsky, Mayor Borg, Hugo Strange Relationships: Vicki Vale & Bruce Wayne, Gilda Dent & Harvey Dent via https://ift.tt/jIpk1mZ

Oh Boden and Grissom working together to rescue Severide! I prefer them when they’re collaborating than when they’re at odds for sure. They make a good team.
