my friends keep talking to me abt our future like it’s real and 1) it made me feel very happy that they’re excited to have me in it but 2) I for real can’t see any further in the future than 10 minutes from now so it does kind of sound like a very pretty fairy tale

Legendary Pilot Bob Pardo, Who Pushed A Damaged F-4 With His F-4 Over Vietnam, Has Died
December 20, 2023 Military Aviation
Bob Pardo
Bob Pardo in a 2017 photo by Senior Airman Ridge Shan. In the background, Pardo's Push in an artwork by S.W. Ferguson.
Bob Pardo passed away earlier this month at the age of 89. With his Phantom, he pushed a crippled F-4 outside the enemy airspace in one of the most heroic missions in the history of military aviation, known as “Pardo’s Push”.
“Pardo’s Push” is the name of an incredible maneuver carried out during the Air War over North Vietnam that, over the years, has become the symbol of heroism and a demonstration of courage and contempt for danger.
March 10, 1967.
Captain Bob Pardo is flying in an F-4C with Weapon Systems Officer 1st Lt Steve Wayne. Their wingman is the F-4C flown by Captain Earl Aman with Weapon Systems Officer 1st Lt Robert Houghton. The two Phantoms of the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing, based at Ubon Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand, are assigned the task to attack a steel mill in North Vietnam north of the capital Hanoi.
During the approach to the target, both F-4 is hit multiple times by enemy’s anti-aircraft fire. The North Vietnamese flak causes significant damage to Capt. Aman’s aircraft whose fuel tank begins to leak fuel forcing the crew to abort the mission. While hit too, Pardo’s F-4 is able to continue its mission.
On their egress route, at 20,000 feet, Aman and Houghton determine that they do not have enough fuel to reach a tanker or Laos, where they could eject and avoid capture. Although his F-4 is still efficient and has enough fuel to reach a tanker, Pardo decides to remain with his wingman.
At a certain point, while still inside North Vietnamese airspace, Aman’s Phantom flames out. To save Aman and Houghton, Pardo decides to do something he believes no one has ever done before: he attempts to push the other F-4 to Laos.
Initially, Pardo tries to push the other F-4 by gently making contact with the drag chute compartment. However, turbulence interferes with the maneuver and after several failed attempts, Pardo opts for an extreme solution: he instructs Aman to lower his tailhook, then he positions his F-4 behind the other Phantom leaning his windscreen against the tailhook. The contact is made but the “solution” is quite unstable and, as a consequence of turbulence, Pardo needs to reposition his F-4 every 15 to 30 seconds. Nevertheless, the push works and rate of descent of Aman’s Phantom is considerably reduced.
As if the situation was not complicate enough, Pardo’s F-4 suffers an engine fire, forcing him to shut it down.
Try for a second to visualize the situation: a flame-out F-4 is somehow pushed by means of its tailhook by another F-4 powered by a single engine. In enemy airspace. Incredible.
Ezoic
Pardo pushes Aman’s F-4 for another 10 minutes until his Phantom runs out of fuel too. With both planes safely inside Laotian airspace, at an altitude of about 6,000 feet, the aircrews of both F-4s ejects (they will be rescued by SAR helicopters and evade capture).
Although he saved another aircrew, Pardo was initially reprimanded for not saving his own F-4. Until 1989, when the episode was re-examinated and both Pardo and Wayne were awarded the Silver Star.

Retired Air Force pilot Lt. Col. Bob Pardo poses in front of a static display model of an F-4 Phantom II, one of the many fighter aircraft he has flown, at Luke Air Force Base, Ariz., Dec. 12, 2017. (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Airman Ridge Shan)
Pardo and Aman both continued serving and retired from the U.S. Air Force in the rank of lieutenant colonel. Years later, after learning that Aman had lost his voice and mobility because of Lou Gehrig’s disease, created the Earl Aman Foundation that raised enough money to buy Aman a voice synthesizer, a motorized wheelchair, and a computer. The foundation later contributed to raise funds to pay for a van, which Aman used for transportation until his death. In other words, Pardo never left his wingman behind, not even after retiring.
Ezoic
Noteworthy, as told by John L. Frisbee in his 1996 article for Air Force Magazine, Pardo’s push was not the first time a U.S. pilot pushed another jet out of enemy airspace: in 1952, during the Korean War, fighter ace Robbie Risner pushed his wingman out of North Korea in an F-86. However, pilots were ordered to refrain from attempting the hazardous maneuver again, and the episode had faded from memory and was almost completely unknown within the Air Force by the time Pardo and Wayne pushed Aman and Houghton outside of North Vietnam’s airspace.
Bob Pardo passed away aged 89, on Dec. 5, 2023. His courage and ingenuity, along with the legendary “Pardo’s Push“, will be remembered forever.

I’m not gonna make it out of this book alive, huh? Sledge on Capt. Haldane:
Although he insisted on strict discipline, the captain was a quiet man who gave orders without shouting. He had a rare combination of intelligence, courage, self-confidence, and compassion that commanded our respect and admiration. We were thankful that Ack Ack was our skipper, felt more secure in it, and felt sorry for other companies not so fortunate. While some officers on Pavuvu thought it necessary to strut or order us around to impress us with their status, Haldane quietly told us what to do. We loved him for it and did the best job we knew how.

The late Capt. Eden Nimri, an officer from the 'Sky Rider' unit, fought bravely and saved lives on the seventh of October. When terrorists broke into the Nahal Oz outpost, she directed her female soldiers and observers into the shelter, stood in the doorway, and waited for the terrorists.
When they arrived, she killed the first ones of them. Under the protection of the shootout that Eden engaged in with the many terrorists who continued to arrive, many of the female soldiers managed to escape and be saved. Eden absorbed the fire but saved many of them.
Hanukkah is also a celebration of women's heroism. At Hanukkah, it is customary to celebrate Judith, who was seen by some as the sister of Judah the Maccabee. According to tradition, she killed the general Holofernes who was besieging her city. With cunning and courage, she killed the commander, causing the Greeks to flee and the city to be freed from the siege.
A thread of heroic women has been woven for thousands of years between Judith, the mythological heroine, and Eden, a heroine of our time, who will yet become mythology.

okay so because of who i am as a person i obviously have not stopped thinking about the ellsworth poem since i have learned of it. this one:
Tumblr media
some things to note:
• "skoal" is norwegian for "cheers". so he‘s literally toasting him with this poem. also it shows that they were very familiar with each other and ellsworth took an interest in amundsens culture and mother tongue.
• it is dated september 3, 1928. a couple of months after amundsens disappearance. this is as much a toast as it is a eulogy. this is probably a good indicator of when ellsworth considered amundsen no longer missing but dead. feeling great and normal about that.
but i wanted to know more!!! in the hopes of finding more context for this poem i tried looking it up but i couldn‘t find anything in relation to ellsworth and/or amundsen. so i tried to find the poem itself. and i did.
ellsworth didn’t write it, it is by none other than famous romantic poet william wordsworth! but this is not where my search ended. because the part that ellsworth quoted is not the full poem.
you see. the full poem is titled „Lines written by Capt. James upon his leaving Charlton Island, where many of his Ship's Crew had died during the winter, which they passed there A. D. 1631-2.“
so of course the question arises: who was this captain james who overwintered in charlton island in 1631-2?
captain thomas james was a welsh captain and explorer and in the years 1631 and 1632 he set out to find the northwest passage. he did not succeed and had to turn back. he wrote a report on it which you can read here on the internet archive.
wordsworths poem was inspired by this tale (some say the ancient mariner was inspired by it as well) and clearly ellsworth put a lot of thought into his choice. chosing a poem about someone looking for the northwest passage to dedicate it to the guy who found it!!!!! man
conclusion: ellsworth did not write the poem for amundsen, but he did carefully choose one that fit him so perfectly, choosing as well the lines which are the most touching and personal.
anyway, here‘s the whole poem below the cut because it’s actually really good and makes me very sad:
I were unkind unless that I did shed
Before I part some tears upon our Dead:
And when my eyes be dry I will not cease
I heart to pray their bones may rest in peace:
Their better parts, (good souls) I know were given,
With an intent they should return to heaven:
Their lives they spent to the last drop of blood.
Seeking God's glory and their Country's good.
And as a valiant Soldier rather dies.
Than yields his courage to his enemies,
And stops their way with his hew'd flesh, when death
Hath quite deprived him of his strength and breath;
So have they spent themselves; and here they lie,
A famous mark of our Discovery.
We that survive, perchance may end our days
In some employment meriting no praise,
And in a dunghill rot, when no man names
The memory of us but to our shames.
They have outlived this fear, and their brave ends
Will ever be an honor to their friends.—
Why drop you so mine eyes? Nay rather pour
My sad departure in a solemn shower.
The winter's cold that lately froze our blood.
Now, were it so extreme, might do this good,
As make these tears bright pearls, which I would lay
Tombed safely with you till doom's fatal day:
That in this solitary place, where none
Will ever come to breathe a sigh or groan,
Some remnant might be extant, of the true
And faithful love, I ever tendered you.
Oh! rest in peace, dear Friends, and let it be
No pride to say, the sometime part of me.
What pain and anguish doth afflict the head.
The heart and stomach, when the limbs are dead.—
So grieved I kiss your graves, resolved to die,
A Foster-Father to your memory.

okay guys... i did so much research on how captain jack harkness dog tags will look like
so i will give yall a bit of lecture of the history and my drawing of the final product. this isn't totally accurate I JUST WANT TO PUT THAT OUT THERE. this is what i gather with the little information we got from jack history during ww2, plus i tried ;-;
im simply doing this not because i love jack but out respect to those who fought and service (and i dont only mean the american military)
alr nows thats said, lets get on it
now we all use to dog tags looking like this (second tag is missing)
Tumblr media
HOWEVER, during WW2 the dog tags were notched like this
Tumblr media
tho notched dog tags phase out by the 1970s
here the thing tho about jack, he's a American volunteer who fought for Britain during WW2. Meaning the dog tags are way different then what we Americans use
fun fact for those didn't know: while others use dog tags, the british military calls them identity discs (ID discs) or service discs. though i think ID discs are more commonly used
their ID discs looks like this
Tumblr media
(obv this changed over time) Now having that, we got the identification on the discs to figure out
classic line from jack: "Captain Jack Harkness, 133 Squadron, Royal Air Force, American volunteer."
So he's part of the RAF and the Eagle Squadron (a three fighter squadron formed by volunteer pilots from the U.S. the squadron numbers were 71, 121 and 133)
also i want to mention that i believe the real Captain Harkness was award the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC), which is award to those for an act or acts of valour, courage or devotion to duty while flying in active operations against the enemy. if he did hell yeah to him! hot, brave and smart? shit and folks wondering i have a thing for people in uniform😂
reference of him wearing a violet stripe service ribbon that i believe is the DFC medal and U.S Marine helicopter pilot, Major Chesarek, who was awarded the medal by the Queen in 2007. he's holding the medal and the ribbon among the others he earned. congrats on him btw!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
alr, back to why im actually here before hot folks get me distracted again
so the identification information:
name: J. Harkness; rank: offr (the reason not capt is cuz they're officers); regiment: R.A.F; religion: no preference (i think we all know why lol); service number (BARE WITH ME ON THIS ONE cuz this is pretty complicate for my small brain and these numbers actually mean shit and i don't got like jack shit on this information except the first digit): 137205
so it'll probably look like this with a proper chain:
Tumblr media
if yall have any comments something being wrong, it'll be much appreciated. if not, i hope you enjoyed

Military veteran Capt. Josephine Guilbeau protested Israel’s war on Gaza during a Congressional hearing focused on veteran affairs.
“You keep sending billions of dollars to Israel. Meanwhile, [U.S.] veterans are homeless and committing suicide with more budget cuts on the way.”
An absolute hero. May we all have her courage

Sometimes I think about my OC (Could be R too tbh) who is a fallen "Angel" because she was born in a crime family, witnessed all the people doing horrible things her whole life yet still decided to trust in humanity because of how kind and caring and loving her (said crime) family is. Also her family is kinda "preserving the family business" kinda crime family and tbh did more good for their community then their corrupted PD and government could do so, it's so natural that she tries to see good in everyone. But Fate was never on her side, like she could be the unluckiest being in her universe. (If there's a hypothetically an always winning horse and she bets on it, that horse will get lose every time she bet kinda level unlucky LOL) hen she gets 🕷🕸 power, it was so painful. Like normal spidey get bitten and they're not even caring more than a flinch, right? I was inspired by a headcanon that Hobie's spiderbite event would be more painful and severe than normal "peter's spidey" or Miles' one would because his would be the spider that crawled out of frickin radioactive wastes, hence stronger reaction to the body. And I couldn't think of other ways except that scene you wrote in TTN. I'd like the irony of a teenager who's afraid of spider and heights becoming a spidey, lolol. also thinks of Angel not only having severe reaction for the bite because it alters her sensory and skin, it's all she got. Like sure, now she can feels more vibrations against her skin if the distance is near enough(constant annoying spidersense) and she can crawl against wall now, but not much strength enhancement, no natural webbing, no strong healing, etc. Thank god that she's too durable orignally because she'd be long gone even before meeting Hobie if not, LMAO. Basically, the supposed "power ups" are contradicted to her fears but she tries and makes things work, yk. She's so naive, and childish and friendly sometimes. Girlie trusted someone falling down on her through the multiversal tube line (Hobie) right on the scene. No questions asked I would trust whatever his pretty arse sprew abt too tbh They became friends, he becomes her moon as she shines on him like the first ray of sunshine in the morning (I'd say Hobie's pretty cooked when he described her like that since he's from London-)but THEY NEVER CONFESSED BUT BUT... When Hobie finally brings out the courage to ask her out because he just realized how dangerous their line of work is and wants to say it to her before one of them is gone... She died from blood loss after bleeding out all night after her last fight with Green Goblin and stopping his crime family went downhill because Goddamn Capt. Stacy not only snitched her out but also led her to the wrong death end so she's cornered... He did those because Gwen and Peter are held hostage but I still hate him for the writing decisions I made<//3 After Hobie reached her and tried to stop the pale blue body that had too much cut on the beautiful face he admired so much in silence while sobbing, it was finally the moment that Death claimed her after a long agonizing, bleeding night, right on his arm... Thank you for listening to my rant ted talk~ -🦊
Me on the first half:
Tumblr media
Angel has such an interesting back story!! I love her already 😍 Hobie's reaction to her being a crime lord's kid would either be hilarious or a real wtf expression
Lmaoo true I'd trust hobie with my life
Me reading the end:
Tumblr media
DAMN U CAPT STACY!!!
They never confessed 😭😭😭😭😭😭 POOR HOBIE HE HAS ANOTHER CANON EVENT 😔
Thank u for the ted talk ❤️

Tumblr media
"Do you mind teaching me how to play?"
You finally collected enough courage to come up to him for the first time as your squadron was settling down for the night. Jean Kirstein — elite and revered member of the Survey Corps — took his eyes off the singing strings to meet yours. His quick with movements fingers though kept on fiddling, with precise pinches and harsh strokes to the cords eliciting a lively tune out of otherwise stiff metal. Truly fascinating you found this, alluring even, that his fingers were capable of creating such a lovely thing.
Service had become luck-luster and boring as of late with all the titans eradicated and Survey Corps having nothing better to do other than to sit around on the coast waylaying the currently non-existing Marleyan ships, as you explained to Jean. Then might as well entertain yourself and put the hours into a skill that you'd actually enjoy, you mused.
He agreed surprisingly easy. Amber of his eyes shimmering from the flames of the dying campfire as he suggested you two should meet after the lights-out in his tent. It was bigger than yours anyway and his only tentmate Connie was on the watch duty that night so you could have all the place to yourselves.
At that time you thought that the glint in his eyes was all anticipation at the sight of a near practice session, seeing as Jean found guilty pleasure in patronizing. That smile he gave you as you both parted your ways quickly morphed into an amorous smirk when you weren't looking anymore.
Who'd have thunk that it'd end up with you sprawled on the tarpaulin, mind fuzzy and body sheening with sweat, as Jean kept on spearing your sopping cunt with his fingers.
You'd give him that, he at least had a decency to actually start off with teaching you. Positioning himself behind you on the floor as you were holding a guitar, his arms going over yours to guide your movements. You were such a diligent student. Your eyes following each motion of his fingers in an attempt to recreate it afterwards, asking him to go through each chord step-by-step slowly this time and turning your pretty face to him in search of approval each time you got the sound right.
It wasn't like Jean wasn't enjoying teaching you. Just that his thoughts weren't exclusively dedicated to the process. Blame it on the pretty much non-existent distance between your ass and his crotch, your giddy with excitement wriggles coiling him even further. Jean nearly hissed at the feeling of his cock growing hard and heavy against the groove of your ass. The Scout uniform was already damningly form-hugging but now with the arousal taking form there surely wasn't a way for you to not notice it.
And notice it you did. Fucking hell. You couldn't help but to feel pleased with yourself. It's not every day that you get a chance to fuck Jean Kirstein. You leaned against him even more, trying to feel upon the outline of his cock.
Maybe you might've actually learned something about playing guitar this night. Too bad your body was pressing against his a little too hard for Jean's composure to last more than a few minutes before finally snapping. His mind giving way to the intrusive thoughts of your image he succumbed to the urge of planting hot wet kisses down your neck. Caught up by surprise you shuddered with pleasure each time his lips crushed into your supple skin, his mouth burning hot and greedy. Yet another avid caress captivating your lips, you felt Jean's hands pry the guitar away from your grasp and putting it aside as he intended on having you only to himself this night.
"Jean!" you gasped almost jerking at his mere touch to your core once he finally had you bare beneath him, "Your fingers, they're too rough"
The curve of his lips gained a feigned sympathetic expression as he brought his fingertips to his mouth to wet them.
"That's how it's gonna be though," he sweetened your sudden discontent with his tongue licking away at your entrance, "Playing the strings got my pads all rough. But these fingers are meant to last so by the time I'm done with you'll be numb with pleasure"
As you'd come to know very shortly he wasn't the one to be throwing promises around.
His touch remained just as rough. The callouses on his fingertips bullying your sensitive flesh to no end. The whimpers and mewls falling past the brim of your bitten lips Jean drank up with such poise and pleasure as if he wasn't the one to cause them with every drag of his digits against your gummy walls. The solace you found in seeing scarlet stripes your nails left on his shoulders was although sweet yet not enough to forget about your discomfort. All you were left to do is to writhe and whine in a futile attempt to escape his merciless caresses.
But the way he was putting his fingers to use — good grief. As if possessing a hidden knowledge of your body all this time, Jean knew the exact points to hit to make you a squirming mess under his touch. Avid precision to his strokes, he never missed that sweet spot, the pressure he applied just right for your pleasure to get at its peak.
"Now, is that what gets you going sweet thing?" He'd coo at you each time he brought your features to a new stage of twisted pleasure, "Keep those pretty eyes open for me, would you?"
Bliss and pain mixing together in a ontradictory concoction, you felt as if your body would soon shut down.
The first time you came on his fingers, it was unexpected. Orgasm creeping up behind the waves pain and crushing over you in shudders. Ever so gracious, Jean helped you ride out your high, his body towering over yours and his lips covering your contorted face in quick pecks as he indulges you into another kiss.
"Jean," you carded your clammy fingers aimlessly through his hair, trying to get your fleeing mind some sort of purchase, "That was so good"
"I know," through the squint of your eyes you can see him smirk down at you, beaming with benevolence, "Boring life of a Scout, my ass. Just come to my tent every now and then and see how quickly you'd forget your complaints"
Your orgasm leaving you still so sensitive, you quickly noticed how his fingers returned to rubbing circles round your bud of nerves. Your clit still angry and puffy, it hurt so much each time his rough fingerpads did so much as brushed up slightly against your core.
With an intruding kiss he shushed your huffs of protest, "Oh, sweet thing I'm not done with you yet. Haven't you heard me the first time?" his hot breath searing the shell of your ear. "You'll be numb with pleasure"
The man of his word, he kept you up in the tent for almost all night drawing orgasm after orgasm out of your feeble body. Prying you open and discovering the new layers of bliss in you you've never even known of before.
How beautiful he was looking down at you, lulling your distress away with his attentive touch and caress. Like a string of his guitar he had you pinned down, left at the mercy of his never-resting fingers. Impeccable strokes succumbing your body to his will, whimpers and moans chording a sweet melody to his ears.
And just as promised, your mind was a haze, your flesh a putty under his touch by the end of the night. It seemed as your body had no bones, so pliable for him. As he held your trembling form close to his chest he kissed away the salt from your cheeks — the only remnants of your former soreness on your otherwise painted with bliss features.
"Such a sweet thing for me," you smiled lazily at his words, "Coming undone on my fingers like that. The next time I'm teaching you playing guitar, you're going to be riding my dick all throughout"

“As the Confederacy felt itself slipping beneath the Union juggernaut in late 1864, the South launched a desperate counteroffensive to shatter the U.S. economy and force a standoff. Its secret weapon? A state-of-the-art raiding ship whose mission was to prowl the world’s oceans and sink the U.S. merchant fleet. The raider’s name was Shenandoah, and her executive officer was Conway Whittle, a twenty-four-year-old warrior who might have stepped from the pages of Arthurian legend. Whittle would share command with a dark and brooding veteran of the seas, Capt. James Waddell, and together with a crew of strays, misfits, and strangers, they would spend nearly a year sailing two-thirds of the way around the globe, destroying dozens of Union ships and taking more than a thousand prisoners, all while continually dodging the enemy. Then, in August of 1865, a British ship revealed the shocking truth to the men of Shenandoah: The war had been over for months, and they were now being hunted as pirates. What ensued was an incredible 15,000-mile journey to the one place the crew hoped to find sanctuary, only to discover that their fate would depend on how they answered a single question. Wondrously evocative and filled with drama and poignancy, Last Flag Down is a riveting story of courage, nobility, and rare comradeship forged in the quest to achieve the impossible.”

Warnings: overhaul x reader drabble, involves heavy topics like suicide, death, vomit, self loathing, character asking to be killed and among other mental health issues since this is Chisaki, so be aware of this before you read it. Not recommended to minors to be honest.
"So many years wasted... throw inside a trashcan...." he murmured to himself as he stared at the image that appeared on the mirror in front of him.
He shouldn't be felling sorry for himself.... after all he has done. After all he did to the boss... he didn't deserve it. The pain on his chest and soul wouldn't go away. Ever. Not even if he was allowed to apology to the man in coma and begrudgingly to the little girl he had taken advantage of.
None of this would have happened if he just listened to the old man. None of this would have happen if he had put his pride aside... None of this would be real if he wasn't welcome in inside the yakuza.
"Such... a waste... of human garbage." he hissed the last words in disgust as he dropped his head... if he still had his hands, probably they would be gripping the sides of his hair by now.
Oh, right. He would still have fucking arms and hands if he wasn't such a idiotic asshole.
He couldn't even bring back the man he had as a father figure. What the hell was he even worth for now? The shie hassaikai was ruined, because of him. He had.... nothing.
"Hey.." he widened his eyes at the sound before slowly lifting his head to see your figurine leaning on the doorway, a small and tired smile plastered on your face... as usual. "I was thinking of maybe karekatsu for dinner, what do you think?"
... another thing he wasn't worth for...
You.
"... do whatever you want." He whispered harshly and tried to ignore the pain in his chest at hearing your sigh.... which he couldn't tell if it was from annoyance or just plenty up tired with his bullshit.
Despite everything he made you go through, you had somehow manage to convince the heroes that his condition in tartarus was impossible to live. Convincing the authorities that despite being his fiance, you would keep him at house arrest all of the time until his sentence was done.
He had this metal black thing on his right ankle that was a painfull reminder on the day you finally saw him out of tartarus...
You had those... eyes. Disappointed yet worried ones. He does know how much you loved children, so hearing of his abouts must be horrific for you.
Yet you were still there... still with him...
How...? But mostly important... why?
He let himself fall on his back on the bed he was sitting on previously... staring at the ceiling in numbness as his ears capted the backroom noise.
After a few minutes or so, he could hear you approaching and then softly knocking on the door frame.
"Is done. Do you want to eat here or..?"
"... to be honest, I am not hungry." He spoke nonchantly while he could tell by his peripheral vision that you had crossed your arms over your chest.
"You're not hungry or you don't want to be fed?"
Shit. You knew him well.
Being spoon feed made him feel like a newborn... made him feel worthless and vulnerable... he didn't liked one bit.
"... perhaps... both."
"Kai, you need to eat something... I don't want you to become skin and bones only..." You pleaded and he finally had the courage to turn his head in your direction.
"....wouldn't it be easier...? Wouldn't be easier if you let me die...? Or if that shigaraki had killed me instead of-"
"Stop." He closed his mouth at your sharp tone "Stop depreciating yourself. You're alive and will be alive for a long time." You stormed out and he inhaled sharply before returning his gaze to the ceiling.
Being alive sounded more like a punishment nowadays....
He almost flinched when the bed suddenly stopped a bit with your weight as he stared up at you with wide eyes.
Despite wanting to end it all, he still flinched at sudden movements or even the smallest brushes of skin to skin contact... he had fallen so hard... from a powerfull and fearfull yazuka to a mere quirkless, disable, worthless and a scared cat man...
Such a shame...
"Sit up." You ordered gently and he couldn't help to just follow your orders for once... in the past it would be a bit of resistance, but who was he now to decline a order if he couldn't do absolute nothing for himself?
With your help, as always, he managed to sit up with his back resting on the mattress of the bed as he eyed the bowl of karekatsu you had brought.
"You-"
"I did cut it so you wouldn't choke. Yeah. Besides a I brought a spoon this time instead of the hashis." You smiled sheepish as you shaked the utensil in your hand between two fingers.
He was jealous for a second...
"Ready to be my taste tester?" You stopped up some food and held it to his face as his nose scrunched up...
The humiliation...
He hesitantly opened his mouth to allow the food to enter.... he hated being taken care of, but you were right... he was famished...
The flavors almost exploded on his tongue as soon as his taste buds registered that it wasn't the usualbarley rice and miso soup he was obligated to choke down as the guards madenhim swallow it... no. It was yours doing. He missed the familiarity of your cooking all times he had to eat the tartarus meals... it was so rich in flavors that he almost let a moan escape...
"Good? Was my first time doing it..." You asked after he had swallowed it.
"... is... " usually this time his pride would make him say stupid things like: 'is alright' or 'is food'
But now, he let it slip the silent word perfect in the quiet room...
"I'm so happy to hear that!" You smiled... how long has it been since you had smiled at him like that?
.... wait. No.
No he didn't deserve to miss that freacking smile. He didn't deserve you treating him like glass. He didn't deserve to be breathing the same air as you are.
Such a gentle and sweet soul like yours shouldn't be with him.
He suddenly threw himself out of the bed and rushed to the bathroom, kneeling harshly on the ground as vomit traveled from his stomach to all the way out of his mouth as he coughed violently.
"Kai!" He heard your voice from afar and cringed when he felt your soft hand rubbing gentle circles on his back as he spilled his guts out... "Is alright... don't force yourself, let it all out..."
Your gentle murmurs only seemed to worse his state of mind and body... he noticed how he started to tremble, his jaw seemed like it was going to fall apart, his stomach hurted like a bitvh along with his chest... he was hot... so hot in his head that it felt suffocating...
The disgusting taste of the bile of his stomach, the way he had harshly threw up hurted.... as soon as he had finished, he felt something burbling on his chest as he furrowed his eyebrows at the feeling before slamming his forehead against the toilet and shouting in the loudest volume he could... just to see if the pain lessened for a bit.
It did not.
He felt your fingers brushing his hair back and he couldn't help but to let out the loudest sob he had ever heard as you picked a wet napkin and wiped the corners of his mouth while suushing him.
"Calm down you just need to breath love..." You spoke and he inhaled sharply at the way the nickname you gave to him slipped so easily and smoothly from your lips... he gagged at the horrific smell of vomit as you helped him up the best you before leading him out of the bathroom from his sake.
He was brought to the bedroom once again as he could tell you were internally panicking at his state...
"O-ok... take a big breath in and out, I'm going to get some water and-"
"Kill.. me..." You froze and looked at him like he had grew another head.
".. what?"
"Kill me... please...." his shoulder shook and soon enough you were embracing him so strongly he let himself fall apartly completely "P-Please-! I don't deserve to live!"
"No lov-"
"DONT CALL ME THAT!" He wailed before lowering his face on the crook of your neck "I'M A WASTE OF HUMAN BEING! LOOK AT ALL I HAVE DONE! NOT ONLY I AM USELESS BUT I AM A FREACKING MONSTER! WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU EVEN HERE STILL?! YOU DONT DESERVE THAT!" He wailed loudly on your neck as he felt you carrying the hair on the nape of his neck as you stayed in silence.
"I-If I die... than it would be better. Pops and erj would have their revenge for what I did to to both of them, the ex members of the hassaikai would feel revenge as well... you won't have to deal with a disable and worthless husband any longer... "
"Kai dont-"
"Don't lie... I know you have no feelings for me... you're here out of pity... I don't deserve it... I don't deserve none of it..." he hiccups as tears traveled down from his face to your shirt "not your pity and specially not your kindness..."
It was silent for a bit as he tried to recover himself form the sudden attack before he felt you cupping both cheeks and making him look at you..
You had tears of your own on those eyes... your lips were chapped due to constantly biting them and your hair was a mess.
Yet you looked... so beautiful.
"I'm not gonna lie, what you did was extremely fucked up and I don't feel a single hit of pity towards you for it." He didn't wanted to but he flinched at that.
"But I'm not lying when I say everything is going to turn out OK sooner or later. I am not lying each morning when I check of you are alright and check how are your arms.... I don't lie when it comes to me worrying about you 24 hours at day and certainly not about my love for you."
"... how? How could you still love a man like me after everything I done..?" He asked, his voice rough due to him throwing up and shouting a few minutes ago...
You brushed a tear away with your thumb before placing a gentle kiss to his lips, not caring if he had brushed them or not.
"I just do... no one is 100% bad or good.... and your beauty never really scared me..."
He blinked and stared at you like you were the craziest person he had ever met.
Or maybe you were...
"What beauty...? I am no longer the man you married.. I am no longer a boss that had the confidence and power .... I don't even get to pick something for myself due to my arms being ripped off of me..."
"First, you still are the man I married. Different? Sure, but him no less.... second, power surely does not mean beauty... don't you remember I found you the hottest man alive by only wearing boxers?"
"Pervert-" you shush him with a skile when you got the glimpse of small one growing on those lips of his.
"Third and final... your arms. Kai it will take longer for you to get used to this new life-style and probably much longer when we get those prostheses... I can't promise you it will be easy, but what I can assure you is that I will not leave your side. I promised that on the altar, didn't I?"
"It means nothing if you no longer hold feeling-"
"Kai I love you." You grabbed his face and made his golden eyes lock with yours "I love you, and I will say it as much times you need me to convince your stubborn ass that."
He blinked a drop pf tear away as he almost whispered the question.
".. how?... why?"
And you answered once again
"Your beauty never really scared me..."
.
.
(A/n): this... turned out like shit. I am sorry.

Airborne Chinese American Warfighters on D-Day
On the occasion of the June 6 allied landings at Normandy in 1944, and every National Airborne Day on August 16, we honor three Chinese American veterans of the Second World War.
Glider Infantryman Wesley Ko
Wesley Ko served as a Captain in the 325th Glider Infantry of the 82nd Airborne Division in the European Theater (ETO), earning the Silver Star and numerous other medals including the Purple Heart.
Initially aspiring to be a pilot with the Flying Tigers, Wesley was working in a print shop in Philadelphia when the U.S. entered the war. Despite his employer offering him a draft deferment, he chose to enlist to join his friends. After completing officer candidate school at Fort Benning, Georgia, and overcoming initial delays in assignment possibly due to his Asian ancestry, he joined the 82nd Airborne and subsequently the 325th Glider Infantry Regiment.
During his thirty months of service, Ko fought in six major campaigns including action in Sicily, Naples, Normandy (the day after D-Day), the Battle of the Bulge, the Allied assault on the Siegfried Line, and the battle for Cologne. He was also present at the liberation of the Wöbbelin concentration camp at Ludwigslust.

Capt. Wesley Ko. Ko received the Silver Star for his service in the six major campaigns of the ETO and numerous other medals including the Purple Heart.
In his later years, Ko dedicated his time to preserving the legacy of the 325th Glider Infantry. He shared his experiences through interviews, articles, and books such as The Greatest Generation and his biography On Silent Wings of Courage. He also served as editor of The Glider Tow Line, a quarterly newsletter dedicated to the glider men's stories.
In addition to his military service, Ko co-owned and operated Komak, Inc., an electronics company, with his brother David for 45 years. He had a wide array of interests including computers, boating, fishing, family, poetry, and furniture re-finishing and building.
Ko passed away in E. Falmouth, Mass., on Dec. 15, 2012. He was 93.
Leon Yee: San Francisco Chinatown’s Own
On the night of June 5, 1944, private First Class Leon Yee had found his way onto a paratroop transport plane, flying toward the coast of France. Having grown up in San Francisco Chinatown, Yee had volunteered for the paratroopers in early 1942. He had been motivated by the $50 bonus in hazardous duty pay, which he needed to support his family. After completing jump school at Fort Benning and earning his wings in mid-1942, he trained as a demolition expert and member of H Company in the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division. According to Chinese American military historian, Montgomery Hom, Yee had concealed from his family how dangerous his duties were. “He tried to hide his combat status by telling his mother he was going to be working with planes,” Hom has written. “But in truth, he was going to be jumping out of planes as an airborne soldier.”
Tumblr media
Leon Yee's jump boots, unit patches, and jump wings (from the collection of his nephew and documentarian, Montgomery Hom). The boots were designed initially in 1941 by William P. Yarborough, a test officer in the 501st Parachute Infantry Battalion/Provisional Parachute Group. They are also known as "Corcorans," after the J. F. Corcoran Shoe Company, one of their manufacturers.
At approximately 0200 on June 6, and as part of the then-largest airborne operation in human history, Yee hurled out of his plane, weighed down by more than 100 pounds of equipment, As he descended, he saw sporadic gunfire and small fires on the ground. He landed in a cow pasture northwest of the Merderet River, disoriented in the pitch-black night. under the cover of darkness. German anti-aircraft fire illuminated the sky, hitting some of the aircraft.
After landing without mishap and shedding his parachute harness, Yee took cover in a nearby ditch. He had no idea of his location, as his regiment had experienced the worst drop pattern of all the American airborne units, with only 20% of the paratroopers landing in their designated zones. Hours later, by 4 a.m., a helmetless sergeant from another company of the 82nd Airborne Division joined him. Together, they sat quietly in the ditch until dawn, trying to determine their location. They discovered they were north of their intended drop zone.
By daylight, Yee had joined other regrouped paratroopers regrouped to plant explosives to destroy enemy communication lines, and engage in firefights as elements the 82nd advanced over the next few days toward their main objective, about 5 miles from Utah Beach -- the marshes of the Merderet and Douve. The marshes formed a natural defensive line protecting the western end of the Allied amphibious landing zone. However, the flooded marshes also limited the Allies' potential to break out of the beachhead. They had been flooded to further impede movement. Allied planners deemed control of the bridges at Manoir de la Fière and Chef-du-Pont as vital.
Yee's ad hoc unit reached the La Fière area, and over the next five days attempted to seize causeways and bridges over the Merderet at La Fière and Chef-du-Pont and, further, destroy the highway bridge over the Douve River at Pont l'Abbé (now Étienville). The lightly-armed troops of the 82nd faced counterattacking Wehrmacht units supported by Panzer III and French tanks captured four years earlier.
Yee would see intense combat for five days. During an attack on a German machinegun position, he was severely wounded. A burst of gunfire had struck rocks in front of him, and a ricocheting fragment hit his right temple, just below his helmet. Bleeding profusely from his wound, he lost consciousness. Yee awoke on a cot in a landing craft headed back to England.
Paratrooper Kenneth Gong
On the eve of D-Day Kenneth Gong, a native Chinese American from the town of Cleveland in the Mississippi Delta, performed the first of his two combat jumps, with the 101st Airborne Division.
Tumblr media
Sgt. Kenneth Gong of the 101st Airborne Division was a native of Cleveland, Mississippi.
Kenny Gong had earned the nickname Machine Gun Gong” for his proficiency in firing the M3 submachine gun.
Tumblr media
The M3 is an American-made, .45-caliber submachine gun adopted by the U.S. Army in late 1942, as the "United States Submachine Gun, Cal. .45, M3." The M3 was chambered for the same .45 ACP round fired by the Thompson submachine gun, but was cheaper to mass produce and lighter, at the expense of accuracy. Troops commonly referred to the firearm as the "Grease Gun" or "the Greaser" owing to its visual similarity to the mechanic's tool. The weapon is often attributed as the source of the WW II slang used by American soldiers in referring to enemy troops killed by this weapon, who were referred to as having been "greased."
T-4 Sergeant Gong was assigned to the headquarters command, 3rd battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. He saw combat in Normandy and Holland.
Tumblr media
Sgt. Kenneth Gong of the 101st Airborne Division brandishing the M3 submachine gun, his handling of which would earn him respect from his comrades.
When US president Bill Clinton proclaimed October 26, 1998, Chinese Veterans of World War II Day, longtime Delta resident Kenny Gong was one of the White House honorees. His division’s motto remains “Rendezvous With Destiny.”
Tumblr media
The Parachutist Badge, also commonly referred to as "Jump Wings," is a military badge of the United States Armed Forces. Some services, such as the Marine Corps, officially refer to it as an insignia instead of a badge. The original Army Parachutist Badge was designed in 1941 by Captain (later Lieutenant General) William P. Yarborough and approved by the Department of War in March of that year. The Parachutist Badge replaced the "Parachutist Patch" which had previously been worn as a large patch on the side of a paratrooper's garrison cap. (LTG Yarborough also designed the Senior and Master Parachutist Badges and the addition of stars to portray the number of combat jumps.) The airborne background trimming that is worn behind the badge of those assigned to airborne units is also a contribution of Yarborough.
On this 80th anniversary of the airborne landings in Normandy, let us honor not only the approximately 10 Chinese Americans who served with paratroop and glider units in the European Theater of Operations but all who answered the call to fight for their country during an era of exclusion and segregation.
They also served.

To read more about Chinese America's warfighters of that era from California, Montgomery Hom's book Fighting on all Fronts - Profiles of WWII Chinese Americans from the Golden State may be purchased here.

"What about GC who was taken by an intruder?"
" I should give her a hug, it must've been so hard."
Writer-nim gave us the best ever love confession ever, it's not even because JH said, because Eun-ae could have said this and it's impact would have been just as devastating and beautiful. Beautiful kind GilChae, finally getting a hug. I love her. ♥️♥️♥️
Dear Anon,
What a beautifully-constructed conversation and confession. She tries to explain why she divorced Capt Gu, can’t get the words out (I fully believe she believes the reason she gave Capt Gu and that it is a truth, if not THE reason she divorced him) and then he says the most unadorned words - I love you whether you’re rich or poor or however you are, and I love you when you didn’t love me and I love you when you do (in effect, I choose to see your actions for the love they represent even if your words push me away). I loved Namgoong Min’s facial expressions here, e.g. the grief when he says “cheeky”, because that’s a quality she has lost over the traumatic months (years?).
And then there’s Gil-chae, the best and bravest, bravest most of all for unburdening herself ever so briefly of the secret she’s been holding onto. I think it’s so sad she couldn’t bring herself to tell anyone, even Eun-ae, but I can see why. She’s been their protector, the person holding it all together for them, and I think she understands that Eun-ae and her family may not be able to bear it. I think that in that moment, when he not only expressed his love, but acknowledged and grieved the past versions of her and depth of his understanding for everyone she has had to be, she trusted and believed he could carry it. It was enormously courageous of her, but he rose to the moment and met it.
For me personally this scene is a success because there is nothing new in it except for Gil-chae’s secret. All of the information was established by previous episodes. We know she’s changed, she’s not her same self anymore (and she’s been through war and retained her core personality, so we know something is badly wrong) and we’ve seen her flinch at the slave market when he touched her skirt. We’re aware that he doesn’t share the common Joseon notions of purity and does not believe it’s a woman’s fault when she gets assaulted (something she doesn’t know, which makes her confession even braver than it otherwise would have been). The conversation brought together so many disparate threads very elegantly.
I think from the fusion sageuk perspective, what’s wonderful about it is the fantasy fulfilment. We’re maybe six hundred years past this point in history and yet so many people still have poor experiences when they try to tell partners, friends and family about assault and abuse. This all-encompassing empathy, the physical gesture of an embrace and the promise to hold her that night (the precise opposite, btw, of the promises he made the night before they almost ran away together) - these are all things we in the 21c wish we could hear, and yet many women I know will not tell the men in their lives about the things they’ve endured. Maybe because they’re protecting themselves, maybe because they once rang bells that could not be unrung, and have learnt that burying the trauma is preferable to the alternative. I think writernim succeeded splendidly in that “embrace” that you described a few asks ago.
Thanks for stopping by, dear Anon, and letting me witter on!
