Susanna Wissmann and Drew Jarred got married on July 1 in Seward, Nebraska.

Pregnancy Announcements:

Ethan and Grace Stewart announced that they are expecting their first child in 2024.

Candace Owens announced that she is pregnant with her third child.

Not helping was also very okay in her book. Her fingernails found their way to her mouth and she bit down on one, right where a callous had formed from practicing her bass for so long. She played with the tab on her soda, staring at the bubbles in the drops of liquid like they were fascinating and she wasn't just scrambling with how to ask.

Candace Nelson had a lot of people she could look up to. She had more siblings ( all older than her ) than her parents had bedrooms, and at least three of them were in super respectable professions with great coworkers. Foggy's friends were her favourite though. She liked bothering her brother when they were around because his friends kind of felt like they were lifted from a crime fiction novel ; intelligent and kind of weird sometimes. Those were the kinds of people she was looking to take her life advice from.

' Sounds really good, ' Candace nodded and pulled herself back to the present. She missed her parents a lot, but somehow she was finding herself alone less. It was nice. People kept asking her about herself and listening to the answer ( her parents cared, so did her siblings, but they were all so busy ). Light eyes examined the woman and the teenager shrugged.

' That's okay, it's nothing bad, ' she prefaced. Her brother was the one who had to proof-read her paper for english on vigilantes, he knew where she stood ( he also had picked her up from the police station after she had been mugged, but she didn't like thinking about it ) even though it was different to him. She took a deep breath, ' do you think the vigilantes are scary ? '

“Positive.” Could Karen have used help from Candace? Of course. The issue was having someone so close to Kevin’s age in her home made that ache in her chest intensify even more, and if Candace was in the kitchen with her, helping? Karen wasn’t sure she would be able to keep her emotions in check. She was doing a damned good job so far but having the girl by her side would tip her over an edge she teetered on continually.

Sleeves were unbuttoned at the wrist and rolled up to elbows meticulously before Karen pulled on an apron to protect the delicate silk of her blouse. Chopping vegetables was not a messy job, but bringing out the seasoning meant a potential mess might be made. “I was going to make kung pao chicken, or at least something like it. You okay with that?” She could make do if Candace wasn’t, adjust a few things and make something else if needed.

When Candace asked if she could ask something, something she didn’t want to ask Foggy or Matt, Karen looked back over at her, plucking up a separate, clean knife to cut the chicken up she had. “Sure.” She cut the packaging with the tip of her knife, ripping it open to extract a chicken breast. “I do want you to know if it is something that Foggy needs to know, I’m not going to keep it from him, okay?” She looked back at the younger girl sincerely. “But other than that, open book so shoot.”

Hello my darling! 💙 What a wonderful, wonderful ask, because there are SO many I could list off! All of my writing is always an amalgamation of every book, fic, movie, TV show, piece of music, article, and life experience I've ever had, but there are definitely some writers whose stories and/or writing styles have stuck with me more than others.

In general, I was very influenced by the fantasy, science fiction, and historical mysteries that I read when I was younger, and look back on all the things I read then with great fondness! Some of my favorites as a kid/teenager were: Susan Cooper (The Dark is Rising), Tamora Pierce (everything!), JRR Tolkien, JK Rowling (I know, I know - but I can't go back and unread them), Diana Wynne Jones (but I preferred Chrestomanci over Howl's Moving Castle), CS Lewis, Rick Riordan, Robin Hobb (The Blue Sword), Lloyd Alexander (Prydain), Ellis Peters (Cadfael), Lindsey Davis (The Silver Pigs), Candace Robb (The Nun's Tale), Timothy Zahn (Star Wars - Thrawn), Aaron Allston (Star Wars - X-Wings), Michael Stackpole (Star Wars - X-Wings)...I could go on for awhile here, lol. I read constantly as a kid, both things I should and things I shouldn't have been reading, so much so that there were weeks when I was reading a new book every day! I also loved myths and legends, so I read Le Mort d'Arthur, The Odyssey, Gilgamesh - all the usual suspects.

As I got older I mixed fiction with nonfiction and poetry, and started reading a lot of subject-specific academic material in undergrad and in my master's program after that. Quite a few writers from that time now influence me as well, building on the foundation of everything that came before: James Baldwin, bell hooks, Barbara Brown Taylor, Anne Lamott, Mary Oliver, Henri Nouwen, Kate Bowler, William Stafford, Howard Thurman, Audre Lorde, Wendell Barry, Rachel Held Evans, Thomas Merton, Nelson Mandela...there are also too many to name here, lol, and if you follow the common thread that unites all these folks, you'll probably learn a lot about how I see the world. And that, too, is something that always makes its way into my writing! 😅

I'm sort of inspired by everything, haha, but I've tried to give a pretty good list of authors, so that maybe they'll inspire you, too! 💙

It was, for some reason, a real struggle to not squeeze her eyes shut tight as she turned but she managed to keep them fixed on the road. The whole time Candace held her breath. Her dad was making her learn to drive and she didn't even know why because the only time she ever got in a car was when one of her siblings drew the short straw and had to drive her down to Louisiana with them for the holidays. Honestly, if she was gonna be dramatic, getting her license felt like one more way for her siblings to not have to deal with her anymore. She swallowed and tried to relax into driving smoothly, ' oh ! And they can't have any of my photo albums either. '

"you're not going to die," alice repeated. she knew that wasn't reassuring if she hadn't already calmed down the first time she'd said it. "i will not let them get to your journals. i promise. but you're going to be fine." the likelihood candace would get into a car accident at some point was pretty high, but it probably wouldn't happen like it did in the movie. "no one's here, you have time. you'll see if a car or a truck comes." she was doing everything right, her turn signal was on and she had those 'new driver' magnets on the back of the car. "you can do this."

There was no audible sound of footsteps anymore but she couldn't stop the panic that was bubbling under her skin. Sometimes she forgot, no matter how many times her older brother tried to make her listen, that there wouldn't really be a hero there to save her if something ever went wrong. They still lived in New York, Candace was still a teenage girl, men were still men. Freaked out eyes glanced over her shoulder and into the darkening city, she imagined monsters lurking behind trees. The door opened and the girl gasped in relief before her mouth started moving at a hundred miles an hour, ' I think someone was following me and I was gonna go to the store but it's just my mom there today and I thought you could beat the crap outta him if he didn't stop, right ? '
