Mrs Cameron headcanons

her name is Claire and Wheezie is named after her. If Sarah was to have a daughter she'd be named Claire too.

She crossed paths with Ward in her early 20s but wasn't interested in him at the time.

The pair kept crossing paths again and again throughout her 20s and his 30s.

She was a Kook he was a Pogue. She was from Charleston not Kildare so an outsider and isolated at first.

He thought he had to prove himself by building his business and impressing her family when in reality she was a city girl her valued her career and independence.

She was a museum curator and loved fine art.

she collects art and records and whiskey.

She fell in love with Ward's fascination with history and mystery and the creativity that came through in his properties and carpentry. He was rough and weathered and older whereas everyone else around her was shiny and slippery and new suits.

He built her a rocking chair.

While she wanted renown and success he wanted wealth and power. Both ambitious and proud but in different ways.

Both very headstrong.

They got married when she was 29 and he was 37. She had Rafe at 31, Sarah 34, and Wheezie at 37. She didn't make it to her 40th birthday.

She put her career on hold to give him the traditional life he wanted. She always assumed she'd go back to it.

Despite her resisting small town life at first Kildare was a breath of fresh air. Surrounded by nature. A permanent vacation.

She had lots of help around the house with cleaners and gardeners and nannies but still struggled as a parent. Especially when Ward travelled.

She was close with Mrs Thornton.

She struggled with her mental health.

Ward was always jealous that she got to be the "fun parent" and the cool one. He felt like disciplinary. In reality he worked and traveled so much that she was ultimately both parents and the closeness he envied came from the sheer amount of time she was able to spend with them.

Not wanting to be idle she was heavily involved in the community.

She fit in seamlessly to the club and society (once the suspicion and gossip died down) in a way Ward had to fight to achieve.

She would paint a small green house on the grounds.

Rafe adored her and Sarah wanted to be exactly like her.

Wheezie was a surprise. Sarah had been a complicated pregnancy and her pride and joy when she finally entered the world. They weren't expecting to be able to have anymore kids.

When she was pregnant with Wheezie she was diagnosed with breast cancer and refused treatment wanting to bring Wheezie to full term before making any decisions. Those months made all the difference.

She battled for two years and wasted away.

Ward drifted, almost preemptively grieving her. He started having an affair with his colleague and friend of family Rose. Rafe noticed. He was only 7.

Rafe and Sarah still fight about the affair to this day even though Rose and Ward are happily married. Sarah defends her Dad's need for support and Rafe tangles up his own abandonment issues in with how his Dad neglected their mom.

She's an old money Kook not a flashy new money millionaire. Things like college buildings erected in their name and family heirlooms handed down and a pressure to get a good education and uphold the family name. Her grandfather hated Ward.

Her parents were disappointed that she got married relatively young but she'd been a lonely only child and always wanted a big family eventually.

She was still able to do a few guest lectures now and then but mostly redirected her efforts to Kildare such as preserving historic buildings and opening a small gallery.

She supported Ward through all the ups and downs of his business as he built it from scratch. She connected him to all her rich friends and even bailed him out a couple times.

When she knew the end was coming she wanted to go home to Tanny Hill. Ward moved everything she needed downstairs for her. He gave her his full attention for that last month. He cried. He stayed.

Her last day saw her get a sudden burst of energy again. They took a walk on the beach as a family and she drifted off in her sleep in that same rocking chair. There were no teary goodbyes just a peaceful quiet day.

While that was probably what she needed the rest of the family were scarred by that tragedy of never getting the chance to talk to her again. The kids were 8, 5 and 2.

don't get me started on this i think i can literally write a 100 page essay on them and their sibling dynamic, i feel for rafe and is not to be an apologist like im not gonna go deep into this but it's not a reciprocate sibling relationship im gonna shut up because i can talk about this for HOURS

One thing that it's super tragic to me about the Cameron siblings is that I don't think there's anything Sarah could do that Rafe wouldn't forgive her for. But there are many things Rafe could do that Sarah would not forgive him for.
