Most of these really show where my focus is at. This list is a tiny bit long of suggestions so bear with me but I'm really flexible if it's fic, moodboard, or art:

Truedemon (deucalion & scott). I feel like the show underplayed their relationship when it came to on-screen stuff (there should have been more). What happened that had made them allies? I want to see them bonding in general whether it be Deucalion training Scott, them talking about formalities or werewolves, them getting to know each other, attending events or any other shared activity, etc. Art, moodboard or fic is ok!

Scott + Kira + Malia . I want them talking about full shifting and experimenting with it.

Sciles or scira . Gift giving

Sciles. Whether this be pre-bite or later, I want them to have a break. Maybe they're practicing lacrosse and they spend the night together

Draeden . Derek and Braeden is having homemade dinner and they invite Scott. I see them having family/ pack/good friend vibes with him.

Braeden's POV on meeting Derek, the McCall pack, or the Calaveras.

A scene where Scott's death is talked about or tended to. Maybe with Mason, Melissa, Deaton, or Stiles. But it's pretty flexible how it's executed. I mean Scott almost did die many times (berserkers, wolfsbane, electricity, etc.) It could even be pack comfort.

Scott is forgotten in the Wild Hunt instead. Or Scott is the one to bring Stiles back (art, fic, or moodboard. Gen or ships.)

Erica actually lives and no one knows it at first. Maybe someone helped her or she helped herself get out of the abandoned bank.

When it comes to my love for Textile arts, I have a few inspirations. My mother, Nana, and Abulia all enjoyed sewing and knitting, and helped teach me, even if it took me a while to get a hang of both.

But my biggest inspiration for arts and crafts was this channel; My Froggy Stuff.

I discovered them when one night when I was 11. How? I don't know exactly but I was watching a lot of toy reviews at the time so that propbley influenced the algorithm. but for however reason I found 'em and I was enraptured.

They did basically every type of craft for dolls; furniture, décor, accessories, and my favorite, clothes. Christmas 2013 (age 12) I got a sewing kit, as well a few dolls (Rarity and Rainbow Dash EQG dolls, Madalyn Hatter EAH Doll, and Skelita Calaveras MH doll,) and using the mouton of fabric and material I made all kinds of stuff. Mostly dresses, leggings, and tube tops, just easy stuff. I honestly wasn't very good, ('hemming the fabric isn't important,' my dumb ass) but it was still fun and a great learning experience. I also use to attempt other stuff with cardboard, glue, cheep kids paint, and other stuff, tho I would mostly end up making a mess.

Back then the only place I really had to do stuff like that was the Living Room, as at the time I shared my room with my sister and didn't had a desk. I also didn't have much in the way of storage, out side of a bajilion discarded containers and my closet. As the years went on I continued watching them, occasionally doing some of the crafts.

They also would review new dolls and this was how I would keep up with current toys.

The channel was also my introduction to custom dolls.

Around 2020 I just kinda fell off, Idk maybe just me getting older, but I just stopped watching. Just today I started re-watching today and they really are nostalgic.

The classic Sierra murder mystery game, developed by the mother of the genre Roberta Williams. Laura Bow is a sorely overlooked female protagonist. The game works by navigating Laura and typing in commands, kinda of tricky at first. Tons of game overs are a hallmark of a Sierra adventure game so save often! If you play the GOG.com version you get the benefit of autosaves. This game runs a timer, the events of the night will unfold with or without you so stay on your toes and keep moving! The game can be found for free here, but imo the $5.99 is worth it for the easy of access.

The Dagger of Amon-Ra (1992) $5.99 👧✨❕📚👿💀

“Laura Bow, intrepid heroine of The Colonel's Bequest, is back! This time she's trapped in a huge, imposing museum in the dead of night, surrounded by socialites, miscreants, thieves...and a cold, relentless murderer.“

Roberta Williams is back! Iconic game, iconic heroine. It’s still a Sierra game so like TCB there are tons of (iconic) game overs, so save often. Solving puzzles in this one gives me a great serotonin rush. Unfortunately, this game has some racism issues, particularly with the characters Lo Fat and Ramses. While an important game in the genre take it with a huge grain of salt and maybe turn of the (kind of awful) voice acting and enable text-only mode and you’ll avoid some awful accents.

Sam & Max: Hit the Road (1993) $5.99 💕✨

“Sam (a canine shamus) and Max (a hyperkinetic rabbity thing) are hot on the trail of a runaway carnival bigfoot across America’s quirky underbelly in this deranged animated adventure!“

Sam & Max are truly my favorite characters in all of fiction. I have the box art to this game as my phone case. I have Sam & Max action figures, a plush Max on my bed, a print edition of Sam & Max Freeland Police Special #1 framed on my wall. From comics, to games, to cartoons I love these guys. Sam & Max: Hit the Road is a classic of the Lucasarts adventure games. That being said, it’s the least user-friendly of the Sam & Max adventure games and the slowest. I still love it to bits and it’s important to the genre’s history imo.  

Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers (1993) $5.99 💕💀👿

“The adventure of Gabriel Knight starts with gathering materials for his new book, and ends up becoming a fight for his very soul. He must now face countless dangers in New Orleans, Africa and Germany, each bringing him ever closer to unraveling the mystery behind suspicious voodoo murders. Haunted by nightmares, he won't give up until he reveals the truth. “

Another Sierra game directed by a woman, Jane Jenson. Gabriel Knight, voiced by Tim Curry, is one of my favorite adventure game protagonists of all time. This game is scary and gory so enter at your own risk! I love the gameplay in this one, I love the narrator, I love the puzzles. But it seems Sierra games have some problems with the representation of minorities. The game is set in New Orleans and focuses on a voodoo cult. Which means consequently the game's major antagonists are all black. Unlike the Dagger of Amon Ra, Sins of the Fathers actually employed black actors to play black characters. There’s a lot to be said about the ways in which white media demonizes voodoo and those who practice it. If you play this one, remain critical. And for the love of god, don’t play the 20th anniversary version.

Day of the Tentacle: Remastered (1993/2016) $14.99 ✨👧❕

“Originally released by LucasArts in 1993 as a sequel to Ron Gilbert’s ground breaking Maniac Mansion, Day of the Tentacle is a mind-bending, time travel, cartoon puzzle adventure game in which three unlikely friends work together to prevent an evil mutated purple tentacle from taking over the world!“

Another classic LucasArts game! This was the first game co-headed by Tim Schaffer who would go on to make the outstanding Grim Fandango! This one is exceedingly wacky and the remastered version has made it more user-friendly than ever.

Toonstruck (1996) $9.99 💕

“Drew Blanc is a cartoon animator and the original creator of the Fluffy Fluffy Bun Bun Show.. Drew's boss, Sam Schmaltz, sets him the task of designing more bunnies to co-star in the Fluffy Fluffy Bun Bun Show by the next morning. However, the depressed animator soon nods off, suffering from acute artist's block. He wakes early the next morning to inexplicably find his television switched on, announcing the Fluffy Fluffy Bun Bun Show. Suddenly, Drew is mysteriously drawn into the television screen and transported to an idyllic two-dimensional cartoon world populated by his own creations, among many other cartoon characters.“

If you’re a fan of Who Framed Roger Rabbit? you’ll love this. Christopher Lloyd is Drew Blanc (ha) trying to save a cartoon world through inventory item puzzles. Truly wacky, zany, and ani-mainy. I played Toontown as a kid so I’m predisposed to like this one. This is also the only game with Full Motion Video I’m putting on the list because FMV games can be an acquired taste.

Grim Fandango (1996/2015) $14.99 💕✨

“Something's rotten in the land of the dead, and you're being played for a sucker. Meet Manny Calavera, travel agent at the Department of Death. He sells luxury packages to souls on their four-year journey to eternal rest. But there's trouble in paradise. Help Manny untangle himself from a conspiracy that threatens his very salvation.“

Yesssssssss! I LOVE Grim Fandango! The iconic game directed by Tim Schaffer has received the best remaster I’ve seen a point n’ click receive. I cannot recommend Grim Fandango enough! Stick with it through the forest section, trust me.

The Last Express (1997) $5.99 ❕ 📚

Ooooh I love a murder on a train! This game features rotoscope animation, which I love. Like The Colonel’s Bequest this game runs in real time, meaning the events of the game will unfold with or without you, depending on where you are at what time you’ll receive different information or see/miss different events. Very replayable with several different outcomes.

Sam & Max Save the World (Remastered) $19.99 💕

“ Sam is a six-foot canine detective with a love of justice. Max is a hyperkinetic rabbity-thing with a taste for mayhem. Together, they're the Freelance Police. And they're about to save the world.”

Sam & Max Save the World, originally released in episodes from 2006-2008 has been remastered and looks AMAZING! After LucasArts was shut down their game devs formed Tell Tale Games and produced three seasons of Sam & Max sequel games, all of which are great. But TellTale was shut down (and screwed over their employees) in 2018. Since then some of their devs have formed Skunkape Games and are currently remastering all of Tell Tale’s Sam & Max series (I’m thrilled). They’ve also adjusted some aspects of the game to make the game more inclusive and less **offensive. So imo it’s worth it to wait for the release of the other seasons to experience Sam & Max in pristine condition. Save the World is the only season out now, but you can get the non-remastered versions of Beyond Time and Space, and In The Devil’s Playhouse, here and here.

 **I should note the “offensive” material in the original is not as egregious as say, The Dagger of Amon-Ra, but it’s just a nice change to see especially in a game I hold dear.

Plays like Blackwell, has a Blackwell reference at the beginning, okay you got me. This is a good, if kinda short, game. It’s very creepy, involves murder and has some gore/violence so watch out! I’m still waiting on the sequel Owl Cave!

Okay I haven’t actually played this one, but I want to. Its a Wadjet Eye so you know it’s good. From the reviews I’ve seen this is the Blackwell Series meets Dragon Age. A point and click that incorporates RPG elements, I love that.

I also have a love of the more, strange, and unusual adventure games that I can't necessarily recommend with good conscience. So if you want bizarre 90s and early 2000s games of dubious quality hit me up.

Please consider a stand that makes the user relatively immortal - they can’t die, hardy age after a certain point, and end up jumping back after a little bit of resting after a “death”. They’re older than anyone thinks and everyone assumes they’re joking when they say “oh yeah I was born back in 1902” but surprise, they’re just an old hag that manages well with sticking with the times. (They probably have a weird grim reaper stand that steals life from others to give to themself)

Hello yes have you been hacking into my Mac for the past month and a half that I've been envisioning a new Stand for a Vento Aureo character because if you have been you’ll know that I’ve been envisioning a Calavera style Stand based off elements from The Book of Life, which is one of my most favorite movies about Dia de Los Muertos.

You’ll also know that I have the art book from said movie, and have been entranced by the designs of Jorge R. Gutierrez and have been formulating my design for this Stand based on some key designs that will rock your socks off.

I had a name designated for the Stand, which would be based off a conjoined skeleton. It’s name would be “Mystery Skulls” and it would be assigned to a character that has a very deep connection to the land of the dead, possibly this character might have been born with an ability to see ghosts that is unrelated to their Stand ability.

First of the design elements is the design of the Adelita twins. I loved their facial structure, glowing eyes, and general badassery. The first conjoined “twin�� of Mystery Skulls would be called “Adelita” to reflect that this skull is suited more for combat. The other “twin” will go lax and hang as if sleeping, while Adelita has the ability to give it’s user any weapon that they’ve hidden under it’s skirts (the user provides the weapon, ie in this case the Scythe you’ve mentioned as it is a homage to La Muerte or Lady Death/the Grim Reaper). The skirts could be considered the metaphorical “veil” that separates the land of the dead from the world of the living, so anything stored under the skirts is temporarily sent to the land of the living until “Adelita” is commanded to take it back that it’s user may utilize the weapon or object of choice. “Adelita” would possibly also reflect it’s user’s fearless nature.

The second conjoined twin would be called “Catrina”, which would be the same skeleton shape as “Adelita”, but this side of the Stand is more reflective of the user’s ability to see and communicate with the spirits of the deceased as it would be dressed in the traditional mourning vestments as well as a black mantilla. It’s ability is to metaphorically “pull back the veil” it wears and allow the spirits of the deceased to act through it, whether that is talking to a living loved one or being used as a puppet to enact revenge. Another method would be to allow its user to become a spirit by means of putting it’s own veil of death over the user, allowing their skeletal spirit to leave their body and act as a poltergeist able to interact with objects and people in the world of the living. “Catrina” could also be used to steal one’s life force, if we want to go the route of The Book of Life lore, each living soul is represented by a lit candle (death is represented by the candle either burning itself out or being blown out). In taking with your lore anon, perhaps another ability of “Catrina” is to steal another living person’s “candle wax” and add to it’s user’s own candle life force. “Catrina” would represent the desire to hold onto the user’s selfish desires (to never die, and to always be connected to those they have lost), and it is also an homage to the artwork “La Calavera Catrina” which has become a cultural icon of Dia de Los Muertos.

Also, just for a minute, think about the character interacting with the Bucci gang and constantly just saying random things out of the blue that only their deceased loved ones would know. Perhaps the user mentions something along the lines of “he keeps telling me to tell you to stay dry, he says he’s happier, it wasn’t your fault that Italy has become a haven of thugs” to Abbacchio, and perhaps she constantly calls Narancia her “Mimmo”, a nickname he has not heard since it was whispered to him in a dark hospital room that smelled of infection.

And then for a minute, think of what would happen if in the aftermath of Vento Aureo, a very contrite Mista, Giorno and Trish ask the user since “today is that special holiday you always talk about back home, can you... will you let them...” and without even asking them to elaborate, the user shows their own ofrenda that they made collecting items from three very special men, and with the help of Giorno’s Gold Experience Requiem perfuming the ofrenda with heaps of marigolds, Mystery Skulls is able to lift the veil and allow these mafiosos to reunite with their friends. That’s what it’s about after all, celebrating the loved ones we lost and having that opportunity to reconnect with them on that special day.

💀🌺María Dia De Los Muertos Moodboard🌺💀

I decided to make a moodboard for the holiday!! This is my way of celebrating with you guys so I hope you like it! 💖 I’ve created an art piece that I’ll be posting after this because I don’t want this post to be too long lol. Art here

I’ve also come up with some headcanons for María’s time celebrating what I believe to be one of her favorite holidays.✨

• She wears/weaves cempasúchitl (Mexican marigolds) into her hair and plans her outfit around it

• Because she’s so tiny she has to stack up sturdy trunks to be able to hang her papel picados and other decor.

• Another reason María celebrates dia de muertos is to mock death. Joking and laughing and rejoicing at the fact that death did not claim her this year.

• Her “calaveritas” (she writes more than one) feature a lot of her close calls with death but also features stories of her loved ones.

• Her ofrenda also features detailed drawings of her family members since she doesn’t have any photos of them. The only photo she has is a very old picture of her and her grandmother. She still places Pan De Muerto on her ofrenda even if she cannot eat it. She likes to buy candles with her loved ones favorite scents and places them near each loved ones picture/drawing.

• She also likes to add her loved ones favorite items near their photos/drawings to honor them. She has an old trunk stored full of their things just for this occasion, and so she never loses them. She makes a point to add a xoloitzcuintli figure so that the dead can make it back safely.

• She forms a path of cempasúchitl petals surrounded by candles leading straight to her ofrenda. She believes that the bright yellow/orange will help the dead properly make their way to the altar and the candles surrounding the path will light their way.

• She tends to sing “la llorona” (the weeping woman) sometimes when she’s feeling down. Sometimes she sings just one part of it, other times she sings the full song. She just relates to certain lyrics a little more than others.

• She tends to place more than one glass of water on her ofrenda just because she feels like one isn’t enough for them and she always buys really intricate glasses to use for them.

• She loves burning copal incense. She loves the strong scent of bones that fill her nose when she lights it. She heard somewhere that they guide the dead to the feast at the altar. María also uses it during indigenous rituals to transmit her prayers and praises.

• Another reason she leaves Pan de Muerto, fruits, and some of her loved ones favorite foods is because she knows of her human family members being there but she doesn’t know if her vampire family became human again or “human like” in the afterlife and so she leaves behind what she’s learned of their favorite human foods to honor them.

• She takes the time to pray for each and every single family member that she remembers and even prays for the very few people alive that she actually cared/cares for. Praying that death will not take them next year.

• Her entire house is covered in a variety of colors, calaveras, notable famous figures, picados, candles etc.. it’s a very warming atmosphere.

• One time she took a trip to the Island of Dolls in Xochimilco just to get a firsthand experience of the place she’s heard so much about. She’s definitely found herself spooked by the island which made her experiences all the more worthwhile.

• She definitely goes back to Oaxaca to reminisce about her birthplace and upbringing. She attends parties, festivals, and such just to let go, and have fun enjoying cultural practices and entertainment.

• She visits her loved ones graves to not only clean them but to also decorate them with cempasúchitl to make them look beautiful and festive. “It’s what they deserve.” She says.

• During one bad year, María almost killed herself. Feeling so extremely lonely and depressed without her family around, wondering why she had to be the only one left, why she was stuck so far away from them.. but she didn’t go through with it because she knew her death would render everything they’ve all done up to this point useless. She also thought, “Who would keep honoring them on this day if I was gone??” and so she stayed.

• Inspired by the giant calaveras in Mixquic, María decided to make a big, but not as giant, one herself and engraved all her loved ones names into it.

• Even tho they aren’t of huge significance, María likes carving and decorating little alebrijes for fun, she likes the concept of them and thinks they’re really cute.

• Her love of color always comes about tenfold during the holiday. She wears very bright, vibrant, colorful outfits that really bring out her features. Always looking her best, she loves dressing up for the occasion.

• She becomes so in tune with herself during Dia de los Muertos that even though the thought/topic of her dead family is prominent around this time, she is usually mostly happy.

• She loved painting her face and even offers to paint others faces for them, sometimes it’s just to busy herself but it’s mostly because it genuinely brings her joy to see the smile on their faces when she finishes, especially if they previously weren’t able to paint their face before.

Most of these are rituals/traditions she remembers from her human life, some of them are things she started doing over time because she thought it’d be neat to do. She has celebrated with Jasper before, he always liked her emotional state around that time and participating in the cultural practices and festivities with her. She definitely loved having him help her put up decorations, especially in higher places lol. She sometimes sends him a little alebrije figure that she carved, as a little holiday gift. María always loved celebrating because she feels much closer to her loved ones and she feels so in touch with her true self, and her culture. She knows her family is there and are looking after her, this brings her comfort and no one can take that away from her. She’s always full of anticipation whenever the holiday nears.

Why Mexican day of the dead is celebrated?

It’s not a Mexican version of Halloween. dia de los muertos art or as it’s popularly known as Mexican Day of the dead and is all about heartwarming joy, vibrant colors and celebration of your demise loved ones. Thought the theme of both the events is quite same and pretty dark; death but the spirit of Halloween and Day of the Dead are very different from each other. The Day of the Dead is a festival celebrated as a honor the dead and loved ones. It actually is a festival of the dead. Mexicans show love and respect and gratitude for their deceased loved ones through various means and rituals and traditions.

Throughout the day of the dead day, Mexico people put on a very untraditional makeup and costumes and hold parades and visit cemeteries and make offerings to the deceased loved ones. Not just that, people also make very fancy, beautiful and attractive temple to welcome the spirits. The Day of the Dead festival is celebrated as a part of the cultural heritage of humanity and since then it has gained extreme popularity and tourists visit the country especially to attend the festival.

Day of the Dead festival is a coming together of many cultures and all the rituals and processions for the festival are filled with symbolism and the more you know about it, the better it is. The festival was earlier known as All Souls’ Day. The cultural belief behind Mexican Day of the Dead goes something like that the spirits are believed to come back to the world of the living for a day every year to spend some time with their parted family. It’s believed that the spirits of children and babies and passed family members come on October 31st and spend a day with their families and then leave. Adults follow the next day similarly.

As the festival is celebrated all over the country you can stay in any part of the place and you can enjoy the festive eve. The most happening festival in Mexico where people are celebrating death and one where you will see vibrant colored skulls and skeletons everywhere.

Visiting Mexico for the Day of the Dead festival is always a great idea. Sopa Azteca–  Sopa Azteca  also known asTortilla Soup is a very important item during Day Of The Dead all over Mexico. It’s a tortilla soup which is very spicy and delicious and full of aroma and everyone will definitely love it.

Caramel Flan– A dessert that is relished all throughout the year but especially during the Day of the Dead festival, Caramel Flan is something you should definitely try.

Tamales– A traditional Mexican food item which is popular all around the year but is even more during the Day of the Dead is made by banana leaves or and is very scrumptious.

Red Pozole– A kind of stew that consists of meat, corn and other ingredients which is most in demand around festival of the Dead is something you simply can’t resist yourself without tasting.

Children’s Book Author Stories – Darryl Silver – Poppi the Okapi

Creative Process:

I have always been a creative person and have had some great success in the past and still do today.

This is actually my first entrance into writing children's books and it has been an adventure to say the least.

In my early career I was blessed to have great mentors. One in particular told me, "write what you know about better than life itself." What this means is write about what you know and it will come out honest and real. I truly believe this.

When my kids were little I used to take them to the zoo almost every weekend. I did this to give my wife a break as she took care of the kids during the weekdays. It was at this time that I became fascinated by the okapi. I was actually more obsessed with the word and I created a rhyming game that my children and I used to play when we would go there. This game continues even today as they are all grown up. I always knew that this would make a great children's book and one day I just had to get it out of my head and down on paper.  

About two years ago I finally decided to sit down and write it. The writing process took me about three months and I got a great response from friends, family and educators that I had shown the work too. Since I am a TV producer/writer, I am represented by an agent. It was at this time that she submitted the manuscript to several children's book publishers. We instantly got a great response. However, during the phone calls that I had with the publishers I found experience to be creatively stifling.

My book is long. It's 48 pages long, and, when publishers looked at the manuscript their notes were, "the book is too long", "the book needs to be half the length", "there are too many words on the page" and "some of the words are too big". Being someone who is in control of my creative work in my other business I did not respond very well to these notes. The nail in the coffin for me was actually when I asked them what they thought about an illustrator and they informed me that that would not be my choice – publishers would assign an illustrator to the project.

I decided that If was going to write I book I wanted it to be how I wanted it and not someone else's vision. This is not to say I did not listen to others when they gave me notes, this just means that if your creative vision is going to be decimated then what is the point in writing the book.

It was at this time but I decided that I would go at it by myself and that I would self-publish via Kickstarter.

But, first things first. I had to find an illustrator. I met with a bunch of illustrators domestically and I wasn't overwhelmed with any of their art. The one person that I did think was just okay wanted $170 a page. To spend $8,000 on art, for a first time book writer, was too big of a risk for me to take.  I had had great experiences with my other businesses working with fiverr.com and thought that maybe I could find somebody somewhere else in the world who might be more reasonably priced.

I put out an audition and found about a dozen artists and sent them one page of the book and all I asked them to do was illustrate the page with their style of artwork. I was blown away by the level of quality that was sent to me and the person I finally settled upon was a woman named Mary who lived in Pakistan. I can tell you that her art was far more superior than anyone I had seen stateside. It was then that I hired her to do the artwork for the book at a fraction of the price.

The way I approached her was we started with a few pages at a time and then as we went along I would pay her for between 5 to 10 pages at a time to ensure that she would actually finish the project as sometimes people on this platform either don't finish the work or disappear. I made sure that she sent me the masters with each group of pages so that I always had all the work in my possession.

Because of my inexperience I had no idea that it would take another year-and-a-half to finish the art, but in retrospect 48 fully Illustrated pages done in a year-and-a-half isn't too bad. I was very lucky that Mary was so great because as we went along there were a lot of changes to the book not only the illustrations but with the words. It is amazing how you realize what works and what doesn't as the process moves along.  Mary was amazing and even though there was a slight language barrier we got the job done.

Once the book was finished (or what I thought was finished), it was time to print a sample of the book. It was at this time that I realized that the formatting that Mary had done was completely wrong. This was not her fault nor my fault but just both of our lack of experience. It was during this time that I started speaking with printers in China. I used www.Alibaba.com and had conversations with over 20 different book printers. I settled upon a couple different printers who gave me amazing help in understanding how to format a book. They were extremely patient with me and we just kept going back and forth via Alibaba and Skype until the actual formatting was done correctly.

I'm very lucky that I have a great friend of mine and somebody has worked for me for years Andrew who knows how use Adobe in such a professional way that he was able to sit with me and we were able to go frame by frame word by word and make changes to the small artwork and formatting issues until the book was actually properly formatted. This was NOT an easy process.

I believe it's important for independent book writers and publishers to figure out the most financially responsible ways to get the job done. We are taking on all the risk to achieve our goals.

I also think it is super important for the writers to understand the process from beginning to end. Each time you hire someone to figure out something for you is one less thing that you understand in this very complex process.

A great resource that I believe every independent writer should join is https://www.ibpa-online.org/. This organization was a godsend in helping me in getting the project done and done correctly.

There are no shortcuts to learning how all this is done it is HARD work.

During this process I wasn't afraid to ask for help. I asked family. I asked friends. I went online and asked strangers for help. You would be shocked at how many people are willing to share their experience and their skills with you.

I am now at the point that I am launching the book. I chose to do it on Kickstarter because I have a great social media network due to my television background. I am relying on lots of friends and associates to help me drive sales of the book. I spent a lot of time looking at how other people were launching their books on Kickstarter and found the most successful ones. I am trying to emulate what they did. But there is no easy shortcut. I know that going forward this is going to take a lot of work and the only person who can do that work is me since I am the best advocate for my own work.

The first thing I did when the formatting was done was print one book via www.bookbaby.com. The reason I did this was that in theory you think you know how the books going to look when it's printed but only once you get a copy in your hand are you able to truly understand the nature of what you've done. I would say at this point my book is about 90% done and when it goes to the final printing we are going to be making the final changes.

I've actually partnered with a charity https://www.okapiconservation.org/ and I have found that they have been super helpful and promoting my book as well as connecting me with lots of people in the Okapi community.  They have even connected me with our local zoo who are also going to help me promote the book. I even had the opportunity to meet an Okapi and many other animals in a VIP behind the scenes tour. During all these events I filmed myself to use in my social media for the launch of the book. The Okapi zookeeper even gave me a stellar book review. The more people on camera and in print who give your book a great review, the better it will be for your launch.

I have also spent a lot of time on social media pre-promoting my book. When you settle on a title it is imperative that you get all your usernames locked down for your social media. Well before you launch the book you should be promoting the book and creating a social media community that you think would be interested in the book. As of today I have not sold one book and my Instagram is over 700 people.  It is crucial to create a buzz for your book well before you launch your Kickstarter pre-launch and your final launch page.

I've also been using my television contacts and there's an opportunity for my book to be featured on a children’s show this summer.

I always tell my kids if you are going to do something you should do it right.

You only have one shot to launch a book the first time and you should put all your effort energy and resources into launching that book.

I also believe that it's very important to have great focus groups. Within days of getting my first copy printed I met with teachers, friends and children of my friends to read them the book. I've had the great opportunity to read it to several kindergartens to see what reaction they had. It is never too late to figure out what you did wrong so you can change things before the final printing. I will always consider this book a work in progress and anytime I can make it better I will.

I'm cautiously optimistic for the launch of my book but you never know what's going to happen. I could sell 100 books or 100,000 books. You never know until you try.

Is Teen Wolf Lovecraftian?

Is Teen Wolf Lovecraftian?

Yes, very much so.

Why?

To understand if Teen Wolf is a Lovecraftian horror we need to start by defining our terms and providing comparisons. Lovecraft stories directly made into movies as a whole are just bad, and most video games too. However, using Lovecraftian ideas and tropes creates a successful narrative in most cases.

Several things define the Lovecraftian horror experience.

Isolation both mentally and physically

Lack of character information which is replaced by character reaction.

Lack of information about the world in which the protagonist finds themselves with a penalty for discovering that information.

The revelation that that which was formerly known is now revealed to be unknown and the consequences thereof

Fear of the unknown, specifically the previously thought known

Body Horror, specifically bodily transformation, from which there is no reversal

The insignificance of the subject in regards to the whole

These look specifically vague and you can apply them around a lot, and people do, but you might also notice a lack of tentacles there.

So before we turn this on Teen Wolf let’s present an example that you can understand the points in question

John Carpenter’s The Thing (1982)

A group of men in an Antarctic station inadvertantly let something other into their base.

Interestingly the least Lovecraftian thing in “The Thing” is the thing itself, and wasn’t that a fun sentence to write.

The Americans [as opposed to the late Norwegians] are already at breaking point, isolation - caused by the weather, their close proximity to each other, boredom and exhaustion have taken their toll, they are a brush fire just waiting for a spark, and that spark is the thing. It is not the spark because it’s hunting them down, because that seems almost incidental in it’s desire to just survive and hide despite it’s otherness, it’s the fact that any of them could BE the thing. I’m going to start calling it the alien - it sounds less like I’ve forgotten the word. This will probably cause problems when I move on to Alien (1979) in a minute.

Combined with that Carpenter uses long empty tracking shots (a technique he used in Halloween [1978] ) which creates a voyeuristic feeling which removes the safety of the base. The way that it works matches “The Strangers” (2008) which removes the feeling of being safe in your own home. The rich white affluent suburb with it’s white clapboard houses and wide green open spaces is invaded by “the shape” as he is called the in the credits, and those shots, in which nothing happen, makes the space unknown and terrifying for it. It removes the illusion of safety.

We know almost nothing about the men in the base, we become invested in them not because of what they are but who, they are charming, funny, tired, and very realistic but it becomes hard to remember their names because those things are ultimately irrelevant. Combined with the discovery of the space ship those men are irrelevant, what they undergo is irrelevant, no one is on the other end of the radio, they will not be saved and their deaths serve no purpose. They and their experience doesn’t matter.

In Ridley Scott’s Alien (1979) does the same thing, a random ship encounters something vast and unknowable and is infected, the Xenomorph then picks off the crew for no other reason than to continue it’s own species, it doesn’t choose them for any other reason than they are there. The robot’s betrayal makes them even more meaningless, any ship that encountered alien life would do, it just happened to be that one.

The presence of the Xenomorph makes the ship unknown, it could be anywhere. At first they think it’s something small and don’t learn otherwise until face to face with it. They have to use technology they don’t quite understand and can’t really use to find it in their own safe space. A safe space surrounded on all sides by absence - space itself. All the things on the ship which previously gave them safety, the machines that allow them to exist on the ship, are now dark places for it to hide. 

In Dario Argento’s Suspiria (1977) - the only film not to have aliens - Suzy goes to a place that is grotesquely beautiful and just happens to be in the next room to the girl who is investigating it, when that girl goes missing she looks for her and discovers the old witch and kills her to save her own life. 

Yet Suspiria, which might be the most Lovecraftian film of them all, has no exposition, most of the characters aren’t introduced, and the movie is mostly experiential, maggots rain from the ceiling, but we don’t know why, the witches are killing the girls in the academy but we don’t know why, instead we have a lurid oversaturated nightmare of a narrative where the dance academy swerves from mundane to brightly lit Roger Corman-esque interior design fantasy. It is a building that if Ludwig II took acid he might design using only primary colours, art nouveau doors, blood red walls and corridors that seem to ooze menace without doing anything, overlaid with Goblin’s infamous soundtrack. Combined with that the actors filmed the dialogue in their own language and English was dubbed over so the characters are not really communicating. 

Suspiria is as close to reading Lovecraft (without the racism) as it is possible to get. And it does also feature body horror when Sarah is resurrected by the witches to act as a weapon, despite her slit throat and the pins in her eyes. It is a nightmare on film.

It is also not a film you watch. It’s a film you experience. [The remake is good but very different and not so Lovecraftian, although most of the characters are played by Tilda Swinton, it’s really squinting are you Tilda Swinton too?]

So having given defintions and examples of what it is - does Teen Wolf fit.

Isolation both mentally and physically

It is impossible for the characters in the know to leave the town, and even if they do then they must return.

We see Scott try to leave twice, once in Motel California and again in Ghosted. Both times they enter a phantasmagoric town which is certainly not the outside world. Other characters are taken by the Wild Hunt. Derek Hale manages to leave, but only after “evolution”.

His trips to Mexico are also phantasmagoric in that it is hard to say that they are not dreams, the Calavera stronghold for example uses a lot of dream logic and wonky camera angles giving the idea that it’s not real. La Iglesia does this as well.

Within the town there are those who know and those who do not. Those who know flock together but have to keep their secret from those who don’t. So Scott doesn’t tell his mother until season 2, Stiles doesn’t tell his Father until 3b, Lydia is still trying to tell her mother in s5.

Characters unaware of the knowledge that others know are completely isolated, without anyone to go to, which usually ends in violence, often against themselves - the Chimera.

With as much as the main characters know it is clear that they know very little about the town, as shown by the family of wendigo who were part of the community.

2. Lack of character information which is replaced by character reaction.

We know almost nothing about any of the characters. We know how they react and how they interact, and how they change, but their histories are completely absent. This is as true of the main characters as it is the victims who only appear in one episode.

3. Lack of information about the world in which the protagonist finds themselves with a penalty for discovering that information.

People know nothing, research can present viable answers which are later proven wrong, characters guess in good faith and are wrong, characters lie, but ultimately they know very little about the world in which they’ve found themselves and those who do know often withhold or manipulate that information.

An easy example is Damnatio Memoriae in which Scott discovers what he believes to be the identity of the original Beast, a serial killer in France, who has nothing to do with the Beast at all. It’s a coincidence that the term has been applied. The knowledge is irrelevant and Scott is left with no more information about the Beast than he did at the start, then the person who does tell him, in Maid of Gevaudan, is Gerard and has every reason to lie, and that’s assuming his guess was correct.

The more characters know in Teen Wolf the more likely they are to end up in Eichen House, and Dr Fenris, in 6b, with the information he has, becomes a mass murderer.

4. The revelation that that which was formerly known is now revealed to be unknown and the consequences thereof

The town is a supernatural hotspot and the revelation of that is the entire plot. I think we can agree that that one certainly applies. Combined with that the use of “safe spaces” as battlegrounds, such as the school, the school bus, the sheriff’s station.

5. Fear of the unknown, specifically the previously thought known

Dr Fenris killed the monsters in his care, the Sheriff nearly has a nervous breakdown with the appearance of the chimera, the possession of Stiles and Scott’s reaction thereafter. These all very much apply, even Stiles fear when Scott attacks him in the locker room in pilot. The more people know the more scared they become.

Traditionally in horror the less people know the more they have to be scared of, but in Lovecraftian horror they know enough to fear it, but not much more, often the creature, by its very existence can induce fear (like the Anuk-Ite) because it is so outside the realms of what the human mind can comprehend.

6. Body Horror, specifically bodily transformation, from which there is no reversal

Werewolves. It is worth mentioning here however that there are anomalies in the transformations, almost all of the werewolves speak of pain during transformation, and Derek uses pain to help control it by overwhelming them with pain, but Scott does not. Just as the protagonist in “The Dunwich Horror” finds himself turned into a fishman there is an inevitability to the transformations in certain cases. Derek is on a path to his inevitable evolution. Scott’s natural evolution is subverted, this might be because he never transforms after his black eyed beast form in season 4. His fear of his transformation holds him back from his inevitable end form, yet there is no way he can be human again, no matter how much he wants it.

7. The insignificance of the subject in regards to the whole

Scott is not important because of who he is. He’s important because he happened to be the person in the wrong place at the wrong time. He is incidental to most of the story despite him being the focus character, the world doesn’t care about Scott McCall, it is interested in the True Alpha, but that could as easily be Chuck Norris. Scott isn’t even the true alpha by virtue but for reasons we do not know, Deucalion had no interest in it, Peter thought it was hilarious, Morell manipulated it to save her own life and Deaton worshipped it. Others use it as a target. When Scott says, “I’m a true alpha you don’t know what I’m capable of” it defines the character. Kincaid tells him he’s not as strong as a normal alpha. There are questions around his biting of Liam. Scott is not the Chosen One, he’s the one that was there and that’s ignoring his questionable behaviour and the very strong argument that he is a villain, and that his narrative was one of fallen messiah and not the hero’s journey.

Frodo was not the Chosen One, he was the guy who had the ring, and many of his successes are because of his party of companions, but Frodo’s quest, which he fails, is of world ending importance.

In Scott’s case, he again succeeds mostly because of his companions, though, unlike Frodo, he is unaware of this, he is not throwing the ring into Mount Doom to defeat Sauron, returning the ring to the jeweller because it needs resized, and might pick up some milk as well while he’s in the area.

So in conclusion is Teen Wolf Lovecraftian = yes

Does it fit the criteria laid out by works accepted to be Lovecraftian = yes

Does it follow the conventions of similar Lovecraftian works = yes

Is it the Lovecraftian conventions spread over such a large scope that cause so much dissatisfaction in the audience = yes

Almost every point in the list is something I’ve seen people complain about, we don’t know about this, we know nothing about that, that makes no sense, I think this episode would make more sense on hallucinogens etc

It is a well written Lovecraftian nightmare, it uses variant realities and isolation, suspicion and distrust well = but it tells us nothing, resolves very little and has a main character who could deliberately be replaced with a well meaning bag of sand.

But at least there were no tentacles.
