New Orleans Trip 2024
Hello! I finally have time to post about my incredible vacation to New Orleans I was able to have. It was a week long and that week wasn’t long enough! New Orleans is truly magical and full of history and culture (and ghosts!) and I miss it so much. From the food to the weather to the music, New Orleans is more than I could have ever imagined and I was able to visit it with my friends! @dreamofme9 and @amc-iwtv joined me on this dream of a vacation and we saw so much. Too much. I’ve been able to make a few collages full of our moments and all the experiences we had!
From walking the streets of New Orleans to taking the streetcar, we never stopped. There was just too much to take in! I could list every single place but I would much rather just share these photos and memories that I will forever hold close to my heart. I don’t think I’ve ever felt as alive as I did during this week I spent with my beautiful friends. I’m blessed and I know it.
You may click on the photos to enlarge them. They hardly capture the true spirit of the city but they are gorgeous, and that’s enough for me to share all the places I went to and all the food that I ate! All the drinks that I drank! Amazing!
I need to go back. I will go back. My life wasn’t complete until I set foot in New Orleans and a piece of my heart remains there now, forever.

"I know what you need," he said. "You need one person who is always on your side. Well, I'm ready to be that one now. I don't know why I tormented you, made you pay for asking, made you come all this way. I always knew I was going to come. Maybe I thought you'd lose interest because I never really understood why you wanted me in the first place. But you're not losing interest, not even with the whole Court, and so I'll come. And when you tire of me and want me gone, I'll hate you, of course."

“Alastor won’t like coffee”
BABES- NO!!
Man is from Louisiana! (Like me!!) Café au laits and beignets for breakfast every day on his way to the radio station those early mornings!
The sun is barely peaking, the drunks and partygoers from Bourbon Street & the French Quarter rising with the morning sun, businessmen that are trying to look tougher and more awake than they are, school going kids that just got off their morning paper route, their beloved Radio Broadcaster, all equals, all piling over to City Park, all trying to fit under the awning of Cafe du Monde to avoid the early drizzle, all in need of a coffee and a sweet breakfast.

Café Du Monde, 800 Decatur St, New Orleans (French Quarter), LA 70116
When I think of New Orleans, Cafe Du Monde is the first food place that comes to mind. The iconic French Market location opened in 1862. They’re open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It feels like if you’re ever feeling low, a plate of hot beignets with a cup of coffee might do a lot of improve your outlook on life.
Choose an open table and someone will come up to you to take your order. You pay when the server brings your order. The menu is simple, beignets, café au lait, black coffee, iced café au lait, frozen cafe au lait, soda, juice, milk, and water. The au lait is mixed with half and half and hot milk and the coffee is French roast mixed with chicory. They always serve the beignets and café au lait with a glass of water (you don’t have to ask for water).
Beignets (3 French doughnuts covered in powdered sugar, $3.85): Very nice, served warm, soft pillows with crispy edges and lots of powdered sugar on top
Café au lait (small, $2.94): hot, milky and really good with doughnuts
The café does close on Christmas and when there’s a hurricane passing through. There’s a takeout window for takeout orders. You can also buy the coffee in cans, mugs, and beignet mix there.
There are other Café Du Monde locations around NOLA, including at the airport, but this one on Decatur is the iconic one. There’s powdered sugar all over the floors. I don’t know if locals ever go there since the area is very touristy. There’s live “music” seemingly non-stop and street performers. Jackson Square is a few steps away. It's easy to get to Cafe Du Monde if you take the Canal Street Streetcar.
Cash only.

The Rising Sun, 1356 Palmetto St, Ste 200, Los Angeles (Arts District), CA 90013
A month after returning from NOLA, I had a craving for beignets. That craving took me to The Rising Sun, a NOLA/Southern food sidewalk café. They have an amazing special, three freshly fried beignets and a coffee for $5. For real. And the beignets are made to order. They serve Café Du Monde chicory coffee.
The rest of the menu includes po’boys, fried chicken & waffles, salads, boozy drinks, and coffee. I noticed they use the wrong kind of bread for po’boys. Looks like they use ciabatta.
Three beignets & coffee ($5). The beignets are small (about 2 inches by 1 inch). I didn’t mind the size but the beignets were awful. They were darker, crispier, and greasier – that’s not terrible either. The interior tasted slightly raw. They should use Café Du Monde’s beignet mix?
Coffee with oat milk: Served lukewarm, ugh. Bitter.
The space is interesting and reminded me of New Orleans: jazz music, all black tables and chairs, black fence, black wall, black chandeliers, black planters. I tried to place my order at the kiosk but the payment feature wasn’t working, so I went to the window and ordered there. Parking in the area is difficult.
2 out of 5 stars.

During a conversation among The Banana Splits "themselves" at an overnight rest stop during their Road Trip of Redemption
DROOPER, provoked by something inside his mind out of the blue essentially: Guys, do you still remember that time we spent a rather rainy evening in New Orleans at the Cafe du Monde in the French Market, drinking chicory-enhanced coffee and eating beignets wholesale? FLEEGLE, chiming in: That was after a few concerts we appeared in there during Mardi Gras at some back-alley tavern in the French Quarter, what with the original band being unable to handle its gig? SNOEKY: [Excited honking, with Drooper concurring that indeed it was] BINGO, rather excitable: At least the beignets were rather acceptable to that funny-tasting coffee! FLEEGLE, explaining: Bingo, that "funny-tasting coffee" you alluded to was actually such which had chicory added, after the local fashion--to mellow it out and pad it out as well! SNORKY: [Honking rather blatant, which Drooper noted as "At least to THIS elephant, it tasted decent as much as alright, even if it meant quite the trip to the toilet afterwards!", which brought much in the way of laughter all around]

A few days in New Orleans
Recently, my friend Rachel and I traveled to the great city of New Orleans, and I wanted to share with you our itinerary (and what we did when we deviated from our itinerary). I would gladly go back to explore the city more, but we packed as much as we could into the few days that we were there! We were originally suppose to arrive early on Wednesday, April 10th, but weather prevented us from…
