Citizen Detective
This is my secret santa snippet for @yourheartonfire . Hope you enjoy it!
smart but unprofessional crime fighter thanks they are after some small time hoodlums, but stumbles into villain's crime ring
Civilian sat in their car. They knew they had to get out and go into the warehouse. They had spent weeks, no, months tracking this string of petty thefts. Initially they had thought it was punishment issued by the chief because they were unprofessional always--their suit crumpled, papers balled up in a wad in their pocket, and their unusual way of solving crimes--but they realized it was a way to keep their mind going. Because if their mind was unoccupied, they would turn the case that no one wanted them to work on. And so they continued to work this case instead.
It had seemed straightforward. Had seemed like an open and close case. Had seemed like it was just a bunch of teenagers robbing a couple of post offices every couple of weeks. Nothing major was ever taken. No mail stolen. So why had they been robbing the post office?
Other than just a bunch of kids looking for fun, Civilian had no idea why they were doing that. Maybe they were just showing off that they could. Maybe they were looking for money, no realizing that the postal service was basically bankrupt. Perhaps they were looking for packages addressed to their parents. But it didn't matter. It was a crime and they had to be stopped.
Civilian would have rather focused their energy on finding more evidence against Villain. Villain had been terrorizing the city for years. They committed all sorts of crimes, flaunting their ability to triumph over the law. No one could stop them. And yet, six months ago, everything changed. Civilian knew, without any proof, that Villain was not just laying low, but plotting. After their latest brush with the law made national news six months ago, Villain had gone underground.
But Civilian didn't think so. They had no proof, but Villain was out there doing something dastardly. Villain had to be. They were always up to no good. But no one believed Civilian. And even if they did, there was no sign of where Villain had gone. And what they were up to.
And now they had to go bust the group of young hoodlums that were in the warehouse. Civilian sighed, checked their service weapon, and got out of the car. They took a moment to adjust to the night that engulfed them.
It was cold and dark. They hoped that the warehouse was at least heated. They had been cold all day, but this cold sunk deep into their bones and was unrelenting. Maybe they could go for some hot chocolate after this. Anything to warm up.
"May as well get this over with," Civilian muttered as they shouldered open the door. They froze. It wasn't a group of unruly teenagers. Villain, and their entire operation, turned and stared at Civilian.
"Get them," Villain ordered coldly before turning back to the board in front of them, their back to civilian. "Do not let them get away. Bring them to me. Now." Villain's minions surged forward.
"Shit," Civilian said as they braced for impact.

Prompt #3501
"You know," the first journalist said quietly, "if the two of us put our notes together, we could uncover the secret identities of every cape in this city."
"So why don't we?"
"Libel laws? Sympathy for the heroes?" They paused, considering. "Self preservation?"
Their rival laughed. "When have either of us ever had any self preservation?"
"Touché. ....So, we're doing this?"
"We're doing this. Let's go."

heyy i don’t have something specific in mind but can you please right something about a morally grey villain and a civilian. make it romantic and flirty and stuffff
Civilian was going to die.
The explosion from the bomb had obliterated half the bank within fractions of a second. The blast was far enough from their office that they weren't directly affected, but evacuating the actively crumbling building could easily kill them.
Rubble rained down as they desperately ran down the dusty hallway to the stairwell. Why did they have to be three stories up? Would they even get all the way down before the place collapsed?
Boom!
Civilian barely had time to react before they were thrown off their feet from the force of the blast that had detonated from the room beside them. Their back smacked into the opposite wall, pain and shock rippling through them as they hit the ground, rendering them helpless.
They couldn't move. This was it. They were going to—
"Oh, sweetheart."
Civilian jerked their head up to see someone standing over them, not a single speck of dust visible on their impeccable black clothes. Not the uniform of a co-worker or a rescue team member, Civilian realized with dismay.
The person crouched down in front of them, head tilted. "I could've sworn I got everyone out in time. I guess you're just a little elusive, huh?" They smirked and ruffled Civilian's hair, wildly playful considering the life-or-death situation they were in right now.
Wait.
The realization struck them like a brick to the head. “You set the bomb off,” they wheezed. “You’re Villain.”
Villain gave them a mock salute. “Nice to meet you too."
The floor wobbled dangerously and Civilian squeaked in fear, trying and failing to prop themselves up. "Please...please don't kill me," they blurted.
"Wow, who do you think I am?" Villain placed a hand on their chest in mock disbelief. "Eh, besides, you're too cute to murder. Or leave for dead,” Villain added as the building groaned, swaying on its foundations.
Civilian flushed, not sure if they should be flattered or absolutely terrified that their whole fucking workplace was about to collapse and that this bastard was trying to flirt with them—
Villain scooped Civilian up without warning, hoisting them into a bridal carry. They yelped in surprise as a block of cement crashed down onto the exact spot where they were laying just seconds ago.
“See?” Villain grinned at Civilian, bearing in close. “Too cute to leave behind.” Their face was near enough for Civilian’s eyes to flick down to their lips. Their grin widened in acknowledgment.
Villain turned abruptly and ran down the hallway towards the stairs, throwing the door open. Three flights down stared back, seeming infinitely long, too long.
But Villain was still smiling like they were gonna make it out of the bank on time. They looked down at Civilian, who had unconsciously fisted their hands into the lapels of Villain’s jacket.
“Yeah, just like that,” Villain said, winking at Civilian.
Civilian blinked, their mind flailing for footing. Just like what—
“Hold tight!” Villain whooped, and instead of booking it down the steps, they jumped onto the railing and slid down, handless.
Holy fucking shit. Civilian squeezed their eyes shut and held on so tight onto Villain’s jacket, stomach lurching. If the bombs didn’t take them out, then this would definitely—
They felt the Villain jump onto solid ground before they could even finish their thought. Oh.
“Aren’t you a scaredy-cat,” Villain teased, that shit-eating, infuriatingly charming grin back on their face. “Ever been on a roller coaster before?”
“No, I’ve never had fun in my life before, actually,” Civilian snapped back sarcastically.
“Hm,” Villain made their way out of the stairwell, casually walking towards the entrance as if the bank wasn’t crumbling around them. “Well, they’ve been saying amusement park dates are all the rage. Maybe this is my sign to take you out.”
Civilian fumbled for a response. Why was this criminal so good at rendering them speechless?
“You’re not saying no…” Villain murmured, exiting the building seconds before it promptly collapsed, throwing onlookers into chaos and allowing them to blend in with the crowd. The timing was almost comedic.
They slipped into an empty alley, Civilian still in their arms.
“I’m not putting you down until you say yes,” Villain urged, eyes glinting with playful mischief.
Civilian, despite themselves, rolled their eyes. “Aren’t you supposed to be a bad guy? What happened to ‘Now I take you back to my spooky dark lair and lock you up and torture you until Hero comes and I fight them to the death’?”
Villain smiled, but it was warmer, more genuine this time. “I guess I prefer it when people look at my lips and clearly want to kiss me instead of looking at me like I’m a monster.”
Civilian paused, dissecting the layers of that statement before—damn them—glancing again at Villain’s perfectly kissable mouth.
Villain ran their tongue over their bottom lip, clearly toying with Civilian, but fuck, it was working.
It was the nearing wail of police sirens that shook them out of their trance. They groaned, stupefied at how they almost fell for the person who just blew up their workplace. “Please put me down.”
“And here I thought I almost had you.” Villain sighed and set Civilian down on the ground. “Unfortunately, the authorities tend to annoy me a bit, so this is where I take my leave. It was nice meeting you, sweetheart.” They bowed to Civilian and began to make their way down the alleyway.
Fuck, the way the nickname made Civilian’s stomach flutter. Fuck fuck fuck— “Disneyland, this Friday, 10 AM,” they blurted.
Villain stopped in their tracks, and although they didn’t turn around. Civilian could feel that stupid little smirk on their face.
“See you then.” Then they disappeared around the corner.
As it turns out, roller coasters really weren’t so bad when you have someone doing it with you.

I wanted to write a civilian story and this is what came out of my brain. I hope y’all like!
Warnings: Mentions of a violent encounter with a pretty creepy bad guy.
The body floated, bobbed one might say, aimlessly in the expensive botanical garden’s pond. With the amount of algae in the water it was a wonder Civilian had seen the thing at all, let alone recognize the figure.
But recognize the figure they did… and it made the horrific sight all the more terrifying.
Civilian bit back a scream as the bloated body floated closer to them.
Bloated…that meant the body had been in there for at least a day right? At least that’s what all those cop shows said…Civilian was a historian, not a doctor…oh god it was getting closer!
Civilian clutched their messenger bag close to their chest and backed away from the pond. Five minutes…five minutes was all it took to scar them for life. Five minutes to change everything Civilian thought they knew about their gracious hosts at the historic hotel.
God, they were such a fool.
They had their suspicions. Of course they did, but when  the opportunity came to stay at the very place they had spent years researching came up…there was no question. They had a sabbatical coming up anyway, where better to have it than on the actual location?
But now…
The body was face down, but it was no question who it was, and who had done this. Villain had been threatening the Senator for months, it was all over the news. But how did Villain know the Senator was staying in this specific hotel in England? Hell, why was Civilian’s timing so terrible?!
There was a rustling in the bushes to their right. Civilian whipped their head around hoping against hope that the sound was the normal squirrel or bird one would find in a botanical garden.
The rustling stopping as soon as Civilian looked over. They caught a glimpse of something metallic reflecting the sun…so, not an animal then.
Oh, god. Oh, god. Oh, god.
Maybe Civilian could play it off as if they saw nothing? Just glance away and find the path back to the hotel where there was a cell signal and they could call for help. That was good, now they just needed to look away.
Shit, why were they so frozen?
They slowly edged backwards towards the tan gravel path. Civilian couldn’t help but keep looking at the bush, waiting for whoever was in there to strike. As soon as they had made it three steps a deep voice rang out from the shrubbery,
“Got somewhere to be? You only just got here.”
Civilian turned and ran.
They ran faster than they ever had in their life. Their feet pounded on the gravel with as much force as their heart pounded against their rib cage. In their hast they couldn’t find it in their throat to scream for help. Help from someone, anyone.
Their running wasn’t fast enough.
A hand grabbed the back of their messenger bag and yanked them back. Civilian choked on air as their back viciously hit the ground. A knee was on their chest and a hand over their mouth as soon as their body was down.
“Now, now love. All I need is a little chat about what you just saw. No need to be so on edge.” The man on top of them wore a dark mask and his leather gloves smelled against Civilian’s face. The man’s silver watch periodically glinted the reflection of the sun with each spasm Civilian experienced.
They frantically tried to claw the hand off their mouth, tears already leaking from their eyes, and they kicked their legs out trying to dislodge the attacker. Their struggle, though, quickly stopped as the other hand yanked their head back by their hair at an angle which promised death if they struggled too hard.
“None of that now,” the low voice said. A voice that Civilian did not recognize. “I don’t want to kill you yet. There’s still some things I need from you.”
Yet.
Yet.
The word made new panicked tears come to civilian’s eyes. Their sobs were stifled by the rank leather that gripped tighter around their mouth.
“That’s a good one. Now, tell me, did you tell anyone where you were headed on this fine morning?”
Civilian froze. Wide eyes staring at the two eye holes the mask provided. What should they say? What would buy them more time? They could lie and say they had told someone they were going for a walk…but would that put someone else in danger? The moment the attacker knew Civilian was alone with no travel companion they would break their neck or drown them in the pond like the senator, they were sure…
“I can tell you didn’t,” the mask lifted a bit at the edges indicating a smile beneath. “Your eyes say it all. No one knows you’re out here then, hm?”
Civilian tried once more to push the man off, but his grip only tightened and he leaned more of his weight on his knee. Civilian’s chest ached.
“That’s a yes. You should never play poker my friend. You have every tell in the book.”
Civilian only cried more.
“You and the Senator were getting pretty close last night. Anything he told you that you wish to share?”
Pretty close? Civilian had only spoken to him for part of the evening about the hotel’s architecture. The senator had found it fascinating that Civilian could tell what year each part of the hotel was built based on the shape of the windows. It was nothing special…but that meant this masked man was at the party last night, watching them.
Civilian was going to throw up.
The hand eased a bit off their mouth, now just hovering over. Civilian’s choked sobs immediately sounded.
“Come on now, just tell me what you know and this will go as smoothly as I can make it. That’s quite nice of me, isn’t it?”
“I…” Civilian stuttered through the panic, “I…don’t know what you mean.”
“Of course you do,” The hand gripping their hair pulled even more, causing Civilian to choke on a gasp. “I know you’re a smart one. You’ve seen the news. Did the Senator tell you anything about making a deal?”
What? What did that even mean? They spoke about windows for fucks sake!
“No…no…we were…” They huffed out a sob that they couldn’t hold back.
“You were what?” The hand that hovered over their mouth now clamped on their throat. Just tight enough to cause pain.
“Windows,” Civilian cried. “We were talking about the windows.”
“Windows?” The man questioned.
“I…you can tell a lot about a building through its windows…I’m writing about the hotel…”
The man interrupted them with a laugh. The hand on their hair loosened and Civilain’s head was no longer forced back.
“Windows,” the man chuckled. “Fucking windows…and here I was worried.”
The hand started to card through their hair in an oddly intimate gesture.
“Sorry mate,” said the man with nonchalance. “Wrong place, wrong time I guess. Pity too, you’re sorta cute.”
The hand on their throat suddenly clasped and Civilain’s eyes blew wide as the man leaned down and placed both hands on their neck to squeeze.
The man put his weight onto his knee and arms, effectively cutting off all air and making any of Civilian’s struggling pointless. Still, they clawed at the hands and kicked their feet, feeling the blood rush to their head.
No, they thought at black spots appeared before their eyes. Please, god, no.
“It’ll be over soon, love.” The man’s voice barely registered.
Civilian felt their hands go numb and their kicking stopped as their energy drained like a bath with the stopper pulled out.
“Yeah, it will.”
A slash and the pressure on their neck and chest was gone. Civilian coughed and gasped as air flooded their body.
From the corner of their eye they could make out two dark shapes struggling beside them, but through the coughing and the tears they couldn’t make out much.
Suddenly they felt themselves being picked up and thrown over a shoulder. They make a sound of protest, despite their damaged throat.
“Hang on, mate. I’ll get you somewhere safe.”
Civilian knew that voice. They knew it, but their battered body could do nothing to protest.
Civilian could only hang off the broad shoulder as Villain swept them deeper into the garden.

supervillain x their super oblivious civilian lover
original ask submitted by @save-the-villainous-cat for the ask game!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Morning, baby,” the civilian yawns wearily as they plod into the kitchen, rubbing their eyes softly. The supervillain turns in a beat, smiles, and then focuses their attention back onto the pans over the stove.
“Good morning, my love,” they answer smoothly, not stopping from flipping over a pancake when they feel arms wrap around their waist and a forehead nuzzle into their back. “Have a good sleep?”
The civilian nods, sighing. “Yeah. I didn’t even feel you come back last night.”
That’s because the supervillain didn’t, but they wouldn’t tell them that, of course. Once the pancake is flipped, they turn and cup their cheeks, kissing their lips softly.
The civilian looks at them and smiles happily, and the supervillain almost wants to drop the breakfast and whisk them right back to bed.
“Another late night at the office?”
The supervillain chuckles, like that’s funny. It is, a little bit. Their lover was too naive for their own good, and the idea that they would be content with an office job was quite amusing.
“Unfortuantly,” they simply respond, and the civilian huffs, like they’re offended themselves.
“They can’t keep doing that, you know,” they pout, eyes fluttering slightly when the supervillain brushes some hair from their face. “Can’t you complain so I get to spend more time with you? You’re always so busy.”
They peel away, reluctantly, and the supervillain sees the playful pout on their lips, smiling to themselves.
“The overtime is criminal,” the supervillain smirks, and the civilian laughs, shuffling away.
“You’re funny.”
The supervillain turns back to the stove, checking on the pancakes. They have some bacon and egg on the go, simply because they feel the need to spoil their lover like there was no tomorrow. They were theirs, after all, all their obliviousness aside. They just didn’t know it.
The civilian hums softly to themselves as they set the table and pour some drinks, and the supervillain relaxes into the tune. It makes them work more efficiently, until they’re dishing up, and letting their eyes linger on their pretty lover easily.
“Wanna eat and watch TV?” The civilian asks, an eager glimmer in their eye. “Unless you have to rush...”
The supervillain was their own boss – it didn’t really matter to them, not when the civilian didn’t even notice their lackluster “office hours”. They kiss their head, herding them into the lounge.
“Go on, then,” they smile, handing them their plate and watching them get comfortable on the couch with a little smile. The supervillain joins them, and they attatch themselves to their side like glue, but the supervillain doesn’t mind. They eat their fill of bacon and an omelette, while their civilian shovels added pancakes into their mouth as well.
Sometime during a programme, the supervillain’s phone rings. The civilian’s head lifts in curiosity, and they answer it. It’s work related, but they don’t leave the room, letting their hand gently card through their lovers hair as a distraction. Not that they needed it.
“Uh huh, and that’ll be ready to use by tomorrow, will it?” They absentmindedly question, their annoyance piqued by the delay of their supplies. “Just don’t fuck up the encryption. It’s sensitive, one wrong move and it’ll be your head, do you understand?”
They end the call, and the civilian shifts, glancing at them with an amused smirk. “Encryptions? Sounds fancy.”
The supervillain laughs. Not because it was funny, but just because the civilian was absolutely clueless. They lean forward, kissing their head, a roaming hand landing on their thigh.
“You know what?” The supervillain drawls. “I think I’ll have today off.”
The civilian frowns softly. “That’s the fifth time in the past two weeks. This is why they’re keeping you late, you know.”
They shut them up with a kiss, and the civilian doesn’t complain. They never do – the supervillain could destroy the city, and their clueless little lover would be by their side every step of the way.

heeeey! could we have more villain x civilian snipets?
Request #10
Civilian's hand trembled still, a firm grasp on the phone, a sense of security they were terrified to lose, even if they knew they would never be fast enough to actually use it, and that it could be snatched away faster than Villain could snap. Yet, they held it tight to their chest.
They swallowed, meeting Villain's gaze after a few moments catching their breath, trying their best not to look as scared as they were.
"I've already told the heroes no, I won’t collaborate with the superpowered," Civilian stated, a tremble sneaking in their voice "you're not getting anything out of me willingly."
And at that Villain chuckled, a gloves hand travelling towards Civilians own, taking the phone out of their grip, battling against a bit of unintentional resistance from their victim, though they could not blame them for such.
“Luckily for me, I have much better ways of persuasion,” they answered, “an enhancer would be invaluable and I am nothing but resilient.”
Civilian swallowed “And what are those? Blackmail? Extortion? Threats of violence?”
“If it’s needed,” Villain answered, grabbing Civilian’s cheeks in a pinch “is it? Needed I mean”
“I won’t help you.”
“Then I guess we’ll start from the top down,” they answered, distancing themselves from Civilian once again “meet me at the address I’ll text you later at night, or don’t bother picking your sibling up from baseball practice on sunday, they won’t be there waiting.”
And while Villain’s steps walked away and down the stairs, Civilian trembled still as they knelt on the cold wooden floors of their office.
_
Masterlist.

For Halloween Captain Marvel Jr dresses up as a really niche character and no one gets it.
But then like some civilian kid points at Jr and yells the character’s name really excitedly and then Jr flies down with stars in his eyes and gets just as excited as the kid.
Somebody records the interaction and every time it comes up Jr gets really embarrassed.

Hi, I’m not really sure how this works but I was wondering if you could write a lil short story/snippet of villain x reporter were villain find reporter following then after a big battle?
thank you in advance!! 💙
Oh my god I did it. I wrote a request for the first time in months, oh my god. Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god--
Request #29
There was blood on their left shoulder. The villain huffed in annoyance, wiping at the stain with one hand and grimacing when it smudged.
That fight had been unnecessary.
The hero had instigated it - the villain giving them ample opportunity to stand down but their enemy was stubborn. Almost stupidly so. They took one look at the villain and decided that they couldn't possibly go one second longer without punching them in the face.
And, of course, the media would paint it as their fault. Because if the villain so much as breathed anywhere near the city centre then obviously their intentions were nothing short of nefarious. No, the villain didn't need to go grocery shopping at all: those bananas were clearly going to be the foundation for their next evil scheme - crucial some might say.
The villain groaned to themself as they walked down the alleyway, using their clean hand to pinch the bridge of their nose.
So much food had been wasted.
So much damage had been caused and for what?
If they were being honest, they weren't entirely sure if it was worth it anymore. If the cause that had led them to where they were still held out strong enough to reason days like this - destruction like this. Common destruction; everyday, needless, a mere swipe upon the hero's page but an ugly blot upon their own. The villain was supposed to be fighting for change but it seemed that everything they did only made the walls they were trying to tear down stronger. They were enabling the very thing they stood against and all the while they were hurting the people they were trying to save - trying to free from a society that never thought of them twice.
At this point, it was better to simply retire and let things return to the way they were. And, if in their misery they figured out a better way then perhaps they could try again...
The villain came to a sudden stop, wondering if they would truly give in right there and then, only to freeze at the sound of movement behind them. A short, scuffling noise - someone attempting to hide and not doing a very good job of it.
Surely the hero hadn't followed them?
The villain turned about, surveying the empty alley behind them, their gaze quickly honing in on a stack of crates. They waited patiently, silent, watching as their would-be stalker peered out from behind their cover and ducked down twice as fast - a small squeak of realisation echoing off the walls. Even if the villain hadn't seen them, they certainly would have heard that.
They let themself relax somewhat, rationalising that their pursuer was either a civilian or a moron. Perhaps even both...
"You realise that you're not exactly discreet, right?" they said.
There was a pause. A long one.
"I'm going to give you to the count of three," the villain pushed. "Either you come out, or I drag you out. One--"
"No, no! N-No need for dragging!"
The villain felt their brows raising as their stalker revealed themself, quickly springing out from their hiding spot like a startled rabbit. They had been right: civilian and a moron. Though, when it came to members of the press, the villain couldn't really expect much else.
"I-I, um," the reporter stumbled on their words as the villain approached them, hands clutching onto their notepad shakily. "I just had a, er - a f-few questions. I-If that's alright with you, of course..."
Perhaps stubborn was a better word. Tenacious.
The villain had seen the way these people practically hovered around the hero. Had even seen one or two get punched by the crime-fighter out of pure annoyance and yet, still, more persisted to harass them.
None had ever attempted to approach the villain before though. None had ever dared...until now.
They stopped just centimetres away from the other, amused by the way the reporter held their ground even when they were clearly scared out of their mind.
"You get three questions," the villain allowed. "But I won't promise any answers."
The reporter's eyes widened. "W-Wait, only three?" they asked.
"Two now," the villain answered.
A beat.
The reporter floundered, opening and closing their mouth multiple times before hurriedly flicking through their notepad. Clearly they'd had their questions planned out - pages upon pages of them - but now they were having to choose only two.
The villain quirked a brow as they watched, foot starting to tap upon the ground while the seconds ticked by.
"Okay, I- no, no, h-hold on."
The reporter flicked back through their notes again, the villain tolerating it all of about five more seconds before snatching the pad from their hands and holding it out of their reach - the reporter giving a startled squeak before looking up at them with horror.
"G-Give that back," they said.
The villain smirked. "No."
"B-But--"
"But what?"
"I..." the reporter flushed, fingers twitching at their sides. "Could you please just give it back?"
The villain's grin grew sharper. "No. And you have one question left - better choose wisely."
"Wait, but that wasn't- I didn't- i-it--!"
"One question~" the villain chimed.
The reporter settled back into silence. Their gaze flicked between their notepad and the villain that held it, something surprisingly similar to a glare lining their expression. Were they about to...?
They did.
The reporter jumped up and snatched the notepad right from the villain's fingers, darting back immediately and flicking through it with frantic urgency.
Cheeky little--
Where the hell did these people get their courage from?
The villain went to snatch it back but the reporter raised their hand, reading out from the final page in an incomprehensible rush:
"DoyouthinkthatHeroshouldbeheldaccountableforthedamagetheycausewhenfightingyouanddoyoubelievethatthisdamageisnecessarywhenthwartingyourplans?"
The villain stopped. Blinked. "What did you just say to me?"
The reporter swallowed, taking in one steady breath before trying again more slowly. "Do you think that Hero should be held accountable for the damage they cause when fighting you, a-and do you believe that this damage is necessary when thwarting your plans?"
Of all the questions they could have asked, the villain had not expected it to be that. It stunned them: they were so used to people always taking the hero's side that they'd almost forgotten the rush of relief that came with being believed - that little thrill of confidence when you found out you weren't alone.
They paused, eyes wide as they studied the other in a new light. "No," they whispered.
"No?" the reporter questioned. They let themself relax a little - no longer cautious but rather curious.
"No," the villain clarified more strongly. "No: that damage is not necessary. And yes they should be held accountable for it - they shouldn't be allowed to use me as an escape goat for the destruction that they actively cause."
For a moment, the reporter's jaw went slack, fully engrossed in what they were saying. The second the villain stopped though they fumbled about their pockets, quickly fishing out a pen and clicking the lid off - taking a few scribbled notes before staring back up at the villain with shining eyes.
"Anything else?" they asked eagerly.
The villain flushed a little under the attention, and not in a bad way. The more they talked to the reporter the more likeable they became: the villain still thought they were stubborn - foolishly so - but they were beginning to recognise that it was more in a puppy-like way than anything truly annoying; the reporter was cute.
"They'll look for any excuse to attack me," they said, each word a small weight off their chest. "The papers will say that I was the one to initiate but I rarely am - that's just what the government wants you to believe. In fact, I'm sure Hero is instructed to be more reckless purposefully just to paint me in a worse light but that's never been my intention: never has been, never will be."
"I knew it!" the reporter said. Then they blushed when the villain raised a brow at them, ducking their head in a vague attempt to hide behind that tiny notebook of theirs. "I mean, I - I had some, er, speculations..."
The villain hummed. "Good speculations I'd hope."
The red of the reporter's cheeks darkened. "A-Any more comments you'd like to add?" they asked, changing the topic.
The villain had to resist the urge to sigh. Because yes; yes, they did. So many...but they didn't want to dump it all on the reporter at once and run the risk of losing the one person that they'd spoken openly to in years.
"What do you intend to do with this information?" they questioned back. "Do you plan to publish it?"
"W-Well, yes. If that's alright, o-of course." The reporter shuffled a little on their feet, suddenly shy. "Not in any of the major papers though - obviously. I mean, they would never let me... It's for a blog I write online. It's small but I-I like to think that it could grow to something bigger. Something that could, y-you know..."
"Change things?" the villain finished, watching as the reporter gave a small nod. "You want things to change?"
The reporter huffed. "Who doesn't?" they said.
The villain considered that a while. Considered it with a hesitation that they'd never had to deal with before. It was one thing to put themself at risk, it was a whole other thing entirely to then insert someone else into that same mess - to tangle them up in something that they could never get out of.
"How much?" the villain challenged. "How much do you want it?"
A pause.
The reporter swallowed, eyes glancing over the villain's frame in a studious way. "Why do I feel like you're giving me a massive, life-altering choice?"
"Because I am," the villain said simply.
"Oh."
The reporter fell silent again. Their gaze drifted away - focused back on the entrance of the alleyway that they'd followed the villain down before falling once more to stare at the notepad in their hands. They held it just a little tighter, lower lip caught between their teeth as they thought it through.
The villain waited patiently, a small excitement sparking within their chest when the reporter's attention drew back to them.
"More than anything," the other said, finally. "More than I can openly admit."
The other followed their direction without question. "O-Oh, right, yes I-- o-of course!"
The villain nodded. Smiled.
"Alright, then. So be it," they said. "You'll want to put that somewhere safe," they added as an afterthought, gesturing to the notepad in the reporter's hands.
They fumbled to put it away into a bag at their side, the villain watching them carefully as they did it.
"Do you have any plans for the rest of the day?" they asked.
The reporter waved a hand dismissively whilst they struggled with the zip. "What, me? No, no, it - it's all work, work, work. I never really find the time for much else."
"So no one to expect you then?" the villain pursued. "No one you're meant to be seeing?"
"No, I--" The reporter paused, their eyebrows drawing down ever so slightly. "Why are you asking me that?"
"Because..."
The villain took a step forward then, hands reaching out to catch onto their shoulders. They pulled the reporter closer, the civilian's face flushing at the sudden contact - the sudden strong contact.
"I'm planning to enact my first official kidnapping," the villain said, "and I want everything to go as smoothly as possible."

This crap isn't fair.
I am so tired of the villain x hero trope. There's so much of it.
I need a damn fanfic where you're just a normal civilian who somehow caught the attention of a damn supervillain. I need that same supervillain to just propose to make a death ray together. AND I NEED US TO SAY YES. BECAUSE WHO THE FUCK WOULDN'T WANT TO BUILD A DEATH RAY???? I DON'T CARE IF I NEED TO DRESS UP ALL PRETTY OR EVEN DRESS LIKE A GOOFY GOOBER I JUST NEED TO BE NORMAL TURNED VILLAIN BECAUSE A VILLAIN
LIKES US.
Anyways, thank you for coming.

Could I pretty please request a civilian dating villain and them running into civilians ex (hero) but civilian doesn’t know hero is a hero 👉🏻👈🏻
Hello, Anon! I can absolutely write this for you. Please enjoy!
"Love, that was the best dinner we've had in a long time," Villain said as the two of them walked hand and hand down the boulevard. Villain had never been more grateful for wearing a mask during their work so they could walk down the street completely unbothered.
Civilian knew who they were, of course. But that hadn't stopped Civilian from dating them. "I think you are much more than a villain, and you know it," Civilian had said as they convinced Villain to date them. Villain had never been happier.
"I agree. I think we should come here more often," Civilian said as they leaned their head on Villain's shoulder. "Oh fuck," Civilian said as they stopped walking. "Quick, we have to hide!"
Villain instantly went on the alert scanning the area for danger. "What's wrong?"
"My ex! Quick before they spot us."
Villain looked around. The only person walking down the street was....Hero. Oh fuck indeed. "Love, you do know that is--"
"Ex-Partner! I know! That's why we have to hide. Quick behind this bush!"
Hero. Civilian's ex was Hero. And they didn't know. Villain let Civilian pull them into the bushes, making a silent promise to make Hero's life a living hell for what they did to Civilian. They couldn't wait to confront Hero later this evening and make good on this promise.

Prompt #33
"Hello Hero" Villain purred into the phone. "You're really a slippery one, aren't you? So eager-"
"Who is this?" an unknown voice coming from the phone interrupted. Their tone so soft and gentle that it made Villain ashamed about his almost threatening one.
"It's me, V-villain." the criminal stammered out. After a slight pause on both ends, they regained their composure "I'm guessing that this isn't who I'm trying to reach?" they asked a bit sheepishly.
"Yes..." the voice confirmed "I don't know this Hero person nor you. I'm sorry." they apologised much to Villains surprise.
"Oh no I'm the one that should be apologising!" they quickly said "Really, I am so sorry to disturb your evening!"
"Oh, it's alright, it happens all the time." they said in such a kind-hearted tone, it made the Villain want to hear more...

T/CW // Unhealthy relationship, violence, grief, death, NSFW
The first time Hero engaged Villain in a fight was lifetimes ago, before tragedy had seeped its way into every part of their being. There’s a price attached to this job, Hero knows that now.
They’re facing Villain and the setting is all wrong. Hero feels like laughing. It’s absurd to think they ever did this in the name of justice. It’s all meaningless now; the fighting, the title, the prestige—meaningless to both of them, Hero can see that.
Minutes pass before Villain breaks their silence. “Sometimes I think I hear them say my name while I’m standing in another room.” They stare at the floorboards. Hero isn’t surprised they found them here. “I’m going crazy, right?”
Hero’s eyes drift to the couch. They remember falling asleep, Civilian’s head resting on their chest. The memory of burnt coffee wafts through the apartment.
“Would you be so lonely if you were going crazy?” Hero remarks.
“Maybe I wouldn’t.” Villain walks over to the coffee table, picking up an abandoned glass. “Hopefully it’ll get worse with time.”
According to the agents handling the case, Civilian’s relatives have been hard to locate, so no one has been by to clear out the apartment in the five days since they were killed. It’s not right their home should remain untouched. Something in Hero thought it might collapse in on itself now that it’s human isn’t in the world. This reflection of Civilian, destroyed.
And in the middle of this static snow globe is Villain. Hero’s enemy. The only person on Earth who understands what they’re going through. Hero hates them for it. For being a reminder.
“Villain,” Hero begins. “I want you to get out.”
Villain looks up. “I’m not done yet.”
“Done with what?”
Their expression morphs to anger. With a violent swing, they throw the glass onto the floor. Hero follows a few of the shattered pieces as they slide across the ground.
“I’m not done,” they repeat. Villain makes no effort to finish their statement. Hero understands anyways. Especially now, words seem so unnecessary. But how dare they destroy a piece of Civilian—what little they have left of them.
Hero tackles them, knocking the couch back in the process. Villain struggles, trying to push Hero off. Hero goes for their face, landing a punch across their jaw, then another. Blood drips from the corner of their mouth.
Villain manages to free themself with a knee to Hero’s stomach. They double over and Villain springs to their feet, running to grab a paperweight off a shelf. Hero gets back up, dodging Villain’s swing with the blunt object. They take the opportunity to push them through the glass coffee table. Shards dig into their bleeding hands as they struggle to rise. They’re stopped by the press of Hero’s boot on their chest, pinning them in place.
A sick smile spreads across Villain’s face. “They wouldn’t want us to fight, you know.”
Hero lifts their boot and stomps on Villain’s chest again, making them wheeze. “Shut up!” Hero yells. “It’s all your fault. You’re the reason they’re dead.”
“No,” they whimper. “If it’s my fault, then we split the blame.” Shut up. Hero can’t stand the implication.
“If you didn’t get in my way they wouldn’t have died! I could have stopped Supervillain!”
“I know that!” Villain cries. “You think I knew this would happen? You think I wanted this?” They sound as pathetic as Hero.
Hero blames Villain, but that blame is also inseparable from themself. If they’d protected Civilian better, if they’d just stayed away from them in the first place, they’d be alive. They’d never have been caught in the crossfire of Villain and Hero’s affections.
Hero takes their boot off Villain’s chest and bends down, grabbing them by the collar. Despite their efforts, Hero can’t convince themself that Villain’s feelings for Civilian are disingenuous. “I hate you,” they spit. “I hate that you’re here and Civilian’s gone. I hate that you’ve left me alive to deal with all this grief.”
They drop their hold on Villain and step away. “I hate how I wish it was me instead of Civilian, and not you.” Tears sting Hero’s eyes at the admission. Shame is a twisted thing. Love can hide behind it, disguise itself as such.
Villain scrambles, struggling to stand. They find their footing, brushing off shards of glass. They sway as they step forward, collapsing into Hero as soon as they’re within reach. Hero catches them.
They whisper, “I hate how we wasted so much time.” They’re crying. “Civilian wanted better for us, but we didn’t.”
Regret is the worst agony in grief. Hero knows they will never surface from it. Neither will Villain. They’re trapped in it, just as they’ve always been trapped in each other’s orbit.
Villain reaches for Hero’s face, cupping it with an injured hand. They drag a red finger across their lips. Hero holds Villain as they cry and bleed. Hero holds them as they kiss. It’s slow and sad. It’s full of a longing that will never be fulfilled. It contains emotions bursting to the surface and a truth finally acknowledged.
They part for a moment and Villain weakly pushes Hero onto the floor by the fallen couch. They wince as a few stray pieces of glass puncture their skin, but it’s forgotten as soon as Villain climbs on top of them and begins pressing kisses down their neck.
“Hero,” they whine.
This is the disruption Hero craved. Kissing their enemy in the wreckage of their mutual dead lover’s home. It’s deranged and it’s perfect for them.
“Hero,” Villain mutters in their ear. Hero fingers the buttons of Villain’s shirt. “Civilian.”
They freeze upon hearing the name. Villain just called them by Civilian’s name. It brings tears to their eyes. Desire courses through them.
“Say it again,” they demand.
Villain obeys. “Civilian.” Their name pounds in Hero’s ears as they listen to Villain chant it. “Civilian, Civilian, Civilian.” It’s the motivation Hero needs to rip Villain out of their clothes.
It’s poisonous. Polar extremes of grief and pleasure flood Hero’s mind until all three of them—Hero, Villain, and Civilian—warp together.
Hero can’t help but echo it back. “Civilian,” they say.
It makes Villain gasp. Their lips clash together. They choke on each other’s blood and tears and pretend it’s Civilian there with them.
Hero’s hands explore their skin. It’s the first time they’ve done this, but it’s something so inevitable it feels like it’s already happened. Villain feels so familiar. Hero focuses on the cacophony of ‘Civilian’s coming from both of them until they reach their climax.
Villain is breathless afterwords. “Hero,” they plead. Eyes closed, Hero feels Villain’s tears drip onto their face. “You’re all I have.” A kiss. “I need you.”
How terrible it is to find bravery in grief. It’s easy for Hero to say, “I need you, too. I love you. I have for a long time.”
They kiss, and Hero is filled with regret, because they will never be able to embrace like this without feeling Civilian’s absence. “I love you,” Villain mumbles.
They lie there well into the night. Villain falls asleep on Hero’s chest. Hero wonders if anyone would find them if they stayed like this, rotting away in Civilian’s apartment. They think it’d be a fitting tomb.
