Just thinking about this as I mindlessly brainrot when watching the new Fallout show. I think the Elder Scrolls franchise would be infinitely more difficult to adapt than Fallout, just because explaining the world to an audience would take a lot more effort and there is way more cultural and physical diversity among the cast, not to mention a timeline that is several thousand years versus ~two hundred, a bajillion gods and kings and heroes and species of significance, a lot of interconnected trade networks and alliances, so on and so forth.

Whatever it ended up being, it would have to be a tiny infinitesimal snapshot fraction of what the entire Elder Scrolls lore can provide.

ok first and foremost I have to laugh so hard at them choosing Lando and Oscar?? as "pure PR" when

car|ando is quite LITERALLY used as Formula 1 PR ?? the official accounts of Ferr/ari, Mc|aren, Carlos' personal socials, Quad|rant,LN 4, F1, TV networks, Netflix and DTS,the whole of the Vegas race and every. single. sponsor. use car|ando to boost visibility. that's not a commentary on the validity of their friendship at all but it is quite literally a PR bromance that rakes in views and engagement

let's all be honest here the Mc|aren media folks are still hardcore car|ando people and can only bring themselves to remember the land|oscar ship name once in a blue moon (I have mixed feelings about that but I'm also not a fan of containment breaches so ig I'm relieved one of my ships isn't used as social media corporate currency??)

people's biggest complaint/compliment (depending on who's speaking) for Oscar is that he doesn't play up for cameras the way Carlos and Daniel do and struggles at PR !! literally he was only a little bit better at this in Prema and only because he'd known most of those boys for 5+ years already and their audience was tiny!

every single comment from a non fandom F1 fan on land|oscar content is how unusually shy Lando is around Oscar or how Oscar needs to "come out of his shell" and "not make Lando work so hard"

and Daniel "Mr. F1 PR Department" Ricc|ardo????? are they seriously saying Lando and Oscar (who are still trying to figure out how much they can even casually touch each other) are PR when Daniel and dan|do ticks every single bromance box????

like who the hell but a twitter user who ships rpf like it's a government conspiracy would pick land|oscar out of all Lando ships for a fake or publicity friendship when they literally don't do any of the pretend gay stuff or the horseplay or the memes etc. that is literally the wildest take I've heard in yeARS

anyway as usual I thought creepily deeply into this and decided to spend my time unable to sleep typing an essay weeeeeeeeee

see I was mostly lurking part time during the dando era so I wasn't sure but fr why isn't there this "competition" between dando and carlando like there is with carlando landoscar?? dando was MAJOR gay fandom service by comparison and they've consistently spent more time together outside of racing weekends and hobbies than Lando and Carlos since Carlos has always spent most of his travel and downtime during the season with Isa and now Rebecca. Daniel and Lando go on little excursions together even now and he was with Lando much longer as a teammate than Carlos.

so for people who've left reality to the point of thinking these men are in a genuine secret gay romance competition for Lando… surely Daniel/dando should be the ultimate enemy number one?? especially when evidence immediately surfaced that Carlos' thirst posts on Lando's bday were his side of the thirst posts Rebecca did the same day from their holiday right after the Brazilian GP, whereas Daniel took Lando with him in a small group of close friends to the desert after Vegas. if I were someone who thought that all F1 girlfriends are "PR escorts" - or whatever bullshit is the latest sexist woman-hating theory of choice - then I'd be so mad at Carlos for "ditching" Lando for Rebecca and then Daniel posting not one but two beautiful, moody pics of traveling with him. forget that Lando only reposted Oscar's birthday post, surely Daniel posting on the account he only made because of Lando with a camera he only bought because of Lando pictures OF LANDO is the biggest source of betrayal !!

I just. cannot imagine wanting rpf to be this exhausting and enraging when you can just ship all of them and also not create conspiracy theories about girlfriends that keep getting disproved at every turn.

but yeah as anon #2 said it's not even like carlando are super close friends outside of F1 (as Lando himself said) the way George and Alex are but I don't see anyone in rages about galex or their irl relationships or saying they can't be shipped with any other driver?? maybe I just don't see it on my feeds but it's definitely not as big a deal as the carlando exclusivity stuff that's been bubbling up everywhere.

and exactly! as sweet as it is that Lando and Carlos pair up in the few moments the drivers are all doing media duties etc together it's also what every. other. driver. is doing with their buddies. sometimes they stand in larger groups but those moments are when they get to catch up with guys outside their own team. Oscar and Logan find each other every single time and a lot of that time they spend away from the other drivers. Max and Charles, Yuki and Pierre, Esteban and Lance etc etc. much as I would love it if this implied that all of these driver friends are suckin and fuckin their bros on the DL it's tragically not the case.

I feel like maybe?? carlando as a ship developed into part of the fans going larries level of problematic is because the Lando they watched with Carlos was so young and literally formed a lot of his F1 persona around Carlos. that version of Lando is basically a handy self-insert for fans worshiping Carlos.

as we know Carlos does NOT view himself as the number 2 driver even when he in every technical sense is. so it speaks to just how much of a little uncooked chicken nugget Lando was during their season together that Carlos has never once viewed Lando as competition and even now sees him as a lil cub kind of like Max V does with Lando. they're happy Lando succeeds but he's not classed in with the guys they really get pissed off with or perceive as threatening.

Lando talked here about how he spent a lot of that first season in F1 anxious about his performance compared to Carlos and his own future in F1 and that he largely had to work to put on a smiley face for the cameras. I actually think that entire first half of the clip is a great example of how the carlando chemistry came from Carlos being someone who loves being silly and laughing a lot in his time off the track and how convenient that was for Lando to help hide how much he was going through privately. when the media decided that Lando is meant to be adorable and silly all the time, someone as easy to get along with as Carlos was perfect timing. did nothing for Lando's actual personal struggle behind the scenes but it kept up a solid boundary between Lando and the media. I can't find it now but there's that old interview of Carlos being dismayed at Lando one day being sullen and quiet even when Carlos tried to joke with him - he was half kidding but Lando looked a bit uncomfortable and said "yeah I don't know why I'm like that sometimes". then it just got joked off as Lando being a moody teenager (which Lando visibly didn't really like).

so like, this is what their relationship has always been! Carlos represents a place Lando can go to and not have his demons or his problems follow him. and for someone who has always been used to physical affection, Carlos' lack of boundaries has always been extremely welcome as an endorphins boost.

but let's be honest here that's exactly the same super physically comfortable chemistry Carlos had even with Max and now has with Charles. I know the charlos of it all is probably a whole other hornets nest but fact is that to Carlos, Charles is equally a grown man to him and they can do the whole european buddies jokey flirting thing without it being weird. not the same as with Lando…

I've got to point out that when you look at comments not from fangirls, carlando as a "ship" is seen by F1 fans as big brother and baby brother or even dad and son relationship. this video was recently posted again from the stream where Carlos very firmly shut down people asking him to kiss Lando. whereas he'll jokingly ask Charles for a kiss and call him "darling" while being pretend domestic together. it's pretty damn clear that Carlos will joke about the bromance with Lando to an extent but Lando is The Baby and a little brother. Carlos wants to take care of Lando and he does not view him as a contemporary the way he does with Charles.

and considering Lando still suffers from the same anxieties and getting stuck in his own head, I've said before how I love that hanging with Carlos can still clear those cobwebs away. they can golf or just chat about any old bullshit and Lando can escape whatever is hanging over him for a while.

I truly do not know why people find that very real relationship insufficiently sweet and amazing and think that imagining them to be secret boyfriends is so much better ?? I mean absolutely rpf it the way I do for fun! but how bad does someone's gaydar have to be to think Carlos would have a single clue what to do with a penis that's not his own lfhajhfsa. American fans need to spend some time watching European friend groups and realize the insecure nohomo thing does NOT exist outside the US.

idk how many girlfriends have to get harassed or how far the media will push it before Lando or Carlos actually get sick of the whole ship thing but I think I speak for all rational carlando fans when I say that it's well past time to throw this whole conspiracy theory away. folks need to enjoy their friendship and ship them how you want for fun but don't push this thing to the point of even more discomfort. or worse make them change their behavior to get the focus off of them.

especially when you come to the landoscar of it all and deciding that it's a battle of the rpf ships. we've all seen those delusions in other fandoms result in baffling amount of hate that cross over into real life and how ugly it gets. carlando comments are already pretty out of control on Lando content that doesn't even remotely involve Carlos and it's bleeding onto McLaren content that involves Oscar.

I guess if I really make a few leaps in lofic then I can maaaaybe kind of see ? where that insecurity is coming from with those shippers. I do not understand it but if I had to guess it's possibly that we're seeing a totally different side of Lando than usual since he's been teammates with Oscar. and that for once, Lando's growth isn't dictated or based on his teammate being a big PR personality.

professionally he has said many times he's been pushed by Oscar into his own best F1 season yet. he's also matured a huge amount when it comes to his own failures and we've never heard him be so grown up and balanced as when he talks about how happy he is for Oscar and McLaren that Oscar got the sprint win before he did. that the "hurt" he feels over it is entirely because he is angry at himself for making mistakes. him doing the season farewell video and being able to ruefully joke but be genuinely proud of Oscar is so different from little Lando slumped and barely clapping during Carlos' departing speech or Lando looking out of it and a bit annoyed when Daniel would still try to do jokes after a particularly brutal result. Lando is behaving on his own terms in his own team now. he's The Guy.

Lando's grown UP. we're seeing a very finished article in him. and it's not because he's reacting to who Oscar is it's because Oscar's just letting him be. he's seen Oscar choose not to fake it or play up for the media and realized 'oh! I can be upset or depressed if I feel like it and not dance like a puppet when people want me to be fun and silly!'. he saw Oscar's urgency to prove himself after finally getting a seat and Lando realized that Oscar was just assuming that Lando would default be the superior! he saw Oscar backing away or leaving room for Lando to be the fan favorite and Lando's natural instinct was actually to let himself be quieter and take up only as much space as he wanted to! he's spent the whole season being asked to be an F1 global representative all on his own with no bromance attached and Oscar is there back at the garage or the McLaren motor home smiling and congratulating him like always!

in short, Lando suddenly has room and space to be whatever he chooses and Oscar has been open to any and all of it. they became immediate competition for each other without needing to hastily construct a friendship or bromance to negotiate it. Oscar shrugs off his own disappointments and doesn't gloat or overdo his achievements and oh! isn't it nice that he isn't expecting anything from Lando except respect! Lando doesn't have to navigate anyone else!

that's why I refer to them as sort of I guess a plantonic crush? I did this equally huge and weird post about this here. Oscar has admired Lando for a long time and Lando has absolutely loved having a teammate who doesn't view him as a baby or a kid brother. Lando is so intrigued by how calm and solid and strong Oscar is and Oscar still cannot quite believe Lando is right there in his life and as his teammate. the little cautious dance they're doing is absolutely precious but also because it's so intensely earnest. they both have such big long term plans for themselves and they are so happy to be working on those together that they aren't doing the whole let's find a schtick or do a bromance thing. if it takes them a long time to settle what their relationship is then so what!

and I guess for people who want to think that Carlos and Lando's friendship is 'superior' to every other relationship in their lives (as if Max F will ever be dethroned in Lando's life) it's got to take the already unstable mindset and upset it even more to see Lando personally growing into someone they don't really recognize and at least in some part because of Oscar.

because the carlando shipping that I see from these more extreme people (and I fully acknowledge they're a loud minority) basically eradicates Lando's agency and identity outside of finding Carlos hilarious or hot. they misinterpret Carlos being the authoritative role into Carlos being fully in control of carlando and Lando basically dancing to his tune and reacting to him. they never post the serious, slightly darker side of Lando because it's typically not associated with Carlos. unless it's Lando missing Carlos or upset that Carlos isn't around lol.

so I can only imagine that Oscar's arrival coinciding with a more mature and focused Lando who allows himself to want to be taken seriously and no longer spends all of his on-camera time screeching with laughter or flailing around is ummm not to the taste of those people. Lando still has screeching fits sometimes but he's overall a much calmer person and it's nice to know that when he laughs with Oscar it's always genuine since Oscar has no idea how to play up for laughs. it's probably why Those Fans are now aggressively posting Lando and Carlos doing the driver's parade together (again, among all the other paired off drivers lol) with "ALWAYS TOGETHER" AND "ALWAYS COMING BACK TO EACH OTHER" as if fate is trying to stop carlando from being the only thing that matters. because I guess in their minds, Lando can't just be believed when he says that Carlos is an F1 buddy the way other guys have F1 buddies and Lando can't grow up and have a personal best year without Singapore being solely about carlando and how Carlos took care of him (fuck off???? Lando would've gotten P2 or P3 anyway bc he had an excellent race??) and Lando won't be heard when he says actually Silverstone was his favorite race not Singapore because Carlos Carlos Carlos.

of course Lando can't have found a new kind of friend and teammate in a guy like Oscar who is wholly unlike Carlos in every single way imaginable because that would mean there are parts of Lando that don't suit Carlos and carlando. it would also imply that Oscar is a better teammate for Lando than Carlos was (which is true) and that oh no if Lando is no longer pining for Carlos to be his teammate again (he isn't and he said so) then that means Lando exists outside of carlando and that means they're gonna have to pile extra hard onto proving every single instance where carlando is still one of the most important things in Lando's life (it isn't and that wouldn't be healthy). it would also imply that purely platonic friendship between Carlos and Lando is basically pointless no no they've got to be fucking and in romantic love that's what makes them special not just the fact that they love being in each other's company and have full and happy lives outside each other.

I just.

reaalllly hope it all calms down soon and they leave Oscar out of this mess.

and thank FUCK Oscar's gf Lily has been fully accepted by landoscar fans from the start because the amount of vile hate and petty exclusion Rebecca is receiving makes it honestly a little bit hard for me to be ra ra carlando even just for fun right now.

20 years ago...

20 years ago, Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack premiered on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block, on January 4, 2003 at 11PM, and I was a distraught ten year old.

My bedtime... was 11PM.

About half a year earlier, Mobile Suit Gundam had become my favorite thing. My friends in school were becoming obsessed with anime like Dragon Ball Z and Yu-Gi-Oh!, but they didn't really pique my interest, and Pokemon was essentially the only anime I had watched regularly before. But I remember seeing the box art for Mobile Suit Gundam: Journey to Jaburo behind the case at Walmart on multiple occasions. It reminded me of the Armored Core demo I had played on the PS1. I thought mechs were cool, but never really got into any sort of mech media. I convinced my parents to buy me the game, and became obsessed with it.

Around the same time, a Gundam anime began airing on Toonami. It was... Mobile Fighter G Gundam.

And well... I watched it. I even enjoyed it. Some of my friends watched it, and I could talk with them about it at school. But even then, I knew it was ridiculous, and even downright inferior, compared to Mobile Suit Gundam, whose story I only knew from Journey to Jaburo, which spans about the first two-thirds of the plot of the anime. One of my friends had the Federation VS Zeon game, which doesn't really have a campaign with a story, but is set during the anime and contains content from the last third of the series. I was enamored with the world of Mobile Suit Gundam, specifically the Universal Century timeline. Yet beyond a couple of PS2 games, I had no way to properly experience it.

I grew up in a rural area where the closest mall was a forty minute drive from our house. No matter where I went, I never found any Gundam DVDs. I had no way to watch the original series. Or 08th MS Team. Or 0083: Stardust Memory. Or 0080: War in the Pocket. All of which I only knew of because trailers were included on the Journey to Jaburo disc. Walmart sold figures from all of those series, but there was a wealth of Gundam content I desperately wanted to experience and just couldn't.

Then, 20 years ago, I saw this promo for the Char's Counterattack film on Cartoon Network, and it was torturous. I knew I wasn't going to be able to watch it. My parents weren't strict, but staying up until 1AM to watch a movie was out of the question at that point. I didn't have access to the satellite tv in my bedroom, and the tv in the living room was right on the other side of the wall of my parents' bed. There was no way I could watch it without getting caught. I was able to watch the first ten minutes or so, and then it was off to bed. My memory of this is so vivid.

Only a few months later, while at the mall that was a forty minute drive from my house, I saw it. Right there on the shelf at FYE, the DVD for Char's Counterattack. My mom told me she couldn't buy it then, but my dad said he would check to see if it was still there on his way back from his out-of-town job later in the week. And he brought it home with him. My parents watched it with me, and I think they were perplexed at how not-for-children the movie was. Not that it's graphically violent, although a lot of people die. But rather, it had mature themes that I didn't fully understand at the time; manipulating children to fight in wars, propaganda and the grey-ness of conflict... I remember them laughing at the part where the space colony residents give flowers to Char and sing a song dedicated to him on the train while he's accompanied by Quess Paraya, a runaway teenage girl who he intends to exploit in battle. They had watched G Gundam with me, but that was like a Saturday Morning Cartoon compared to this.

The explosion of anime accessibility over the past decade is insane. 20 years later, I can legally stream The Witch from Mercury on the same day it airs in Japan. Throughout middle and high school, I didn't watch much anime because I was worried I would be made fun of for it. Then I stopped giving a shit about that in college, and only got back into anime properly six or seven years ago. And I'm so glad I didn't just grow out of it. I'm glad I can now experience and enjoy Gundam as much as I wanted to 20 years ago. The PS2 games don't hold up especially well control-wise (I still prefer them to the modern attempts that feel compelled to cram every Gundam series into one game rather than actually try to produce a cohesive story), and it's difficult for me to view G Gundam as anything but absurd. But Char's Counterattack is still one of my favorite anime films.

Behind The Scenes - Chapter 21: Change Of Location

Steven was packing up to go back home. He was excited to go back, but after his birthday they cut their trip short, and Greg had to go back to work at the music shop. Rose had stuff to do, and he wanted to go back home.

He grabbed his jacket and packed it. Someone knocks on the door.

“Come in!” Steven said, Rose walked in. Her hair was tied back in a ponytail, Steven smiled then walked over to her and hugged her, Rose smiled and lifted him.

“Are you done packing?” she asked. Steven nods.

“I am,” he said.

Rose smiled then walked out of the room, placing her son down. Steven went downstairs, Steven sat on the couch to watch Cartoon Network on TV.

They were on the plane headed back to Deleware, Steven was playing on his DS on the plane. Greg was listening to music and Rose was reading.

They’ve made it back home. Greg and Rose took a taxi and they went back home. Steven was excited to go back to the beach house.

They arrived back at Dewey Beach and they were driving back to the house. Steven’s eyes widen as he sees something wrong…

“Mom… Dad?”

“What is it—“ Greg said stopping as he saw it, he was looking at it for a good minute. The cab stopped as they stepped out, and the taxi driver opened the door in shock too.

In front of them, their beautiful beach house that they had for seven years, burned… Steven stood there stunned and wide eyed. Rose was the first to move, Steven’s eyes welled with tears as he ran to the remains of his home. A man with long brown hair grabs him. He was holding him in the air.

“LET ME GO!” He kicked and screamed, he trashed until the man let go but he didn’t, Steven’s tears flowed out of his eyes until he stopped. The man sets him down. He didn’t want to go now. He stood there, Rose walked up slowly to their home and walked up the stairs, carefully not to damage it, she could always use her float powers. Rose looked at the dark, charred wooden floor beneath her feet and saw their salvaged things, she picked up her scabbard that also had her sword inside of it, her flag was saved too, and Greg’s signed acoustic guitar. Photographs, VHS tapes, books, movies, all their things, Rose picked up a photograph and it was the photo of her and Greg’s wedding.

Rose shut her eyes, everything that they worked for was gone in an instant. Greg was stuck. He saw their lives crumble before their eyes. Sure that Greg had his parents, Rose’s parents, Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl. But…. Forget it! He did have his family and his son. Greg looks at his son, his pride and joy. And his amazing wife. Without her, he would’ve crumbled with having to raise Steven by himself in Deleware.

“Rose?” Greg asked. Rose grabbed everything, jumped up, and landed safely on the sand, dropping their things. She looks at her hands and then backs up at the house again.

It was unreconcilable now…

“COME ON, AMES!” Adrain said, cheering her on. Ameythest hits the ball with the metal baseball bat and ran all the bases. The other team that they were versing against was losing, and losing badly. It was the last inning, Amethyst was about to get to home base. She slid and touched home plate.

“SAFE!” the umpire said. The team all ran and hugged her, they lifted Ames and carried her.

“Let’s get some Taco Bell!” Coach Mekela told her team: Ameythest and the team cheered.

“Hey, Dad! Can you drive Sam and me? We're getting Tacos!”

“Sure!” he said, standing up and walking towards his truck.

Sam and Amethyst both went to his truck and they got food with her team.

“That’s the last of it…” Rose said, closing the doors to Greg’s van, Steven sat on the charred steps of the beach house, Everything was gone. First, his best friend.And now. His house….. What else could go wrong?

“Hey, Schu-Ball, how are you feeling?” Greg asked his son. Steven crossed his arms and leaned on the railing, surprisingly. It didn’t collapse from the weight.

“How do you think I’m feeling?” Steven mumbled to his father. Greg rubs his son’s back. Feeling the warmth of his hand and he leans into him, tears wells in his eyes again as he chokes out a sob.

Greg smiles sadly as he hugs his son, Rose walks to them, and Greg looks at his wife, he takes his thumb and wipes his eyes.

“Everything is packed… Time to start our new lives in California..”

Steven was sitting in the back of their van, Greg and Rose were going to take turnes, Greg was driving for a few hours, and Steven looked out the window.

“Steven, you want to listen to some Blink?” Steven looks up, his mom is looking at him. Steven sighed and nodded.

Greg played some Blink-182 and the song, ‘I Miss You’ started playing. Greg and Rose both sang the lyrics as Steven cracks a smile.

Maybe this drive wouldn’t be so bad…. He thought to himself as he enjoyed the song.

Forty-two hours later. And they’d made it to California, Greg let Rose take over since she didn’t need much sleep so she drove the whole way there. Greg and Steven were both asleep in the back of the van where their stuff was.

Rose pulled out her phone and called Greg's mother.

“Greg?” Misty asked, Greg was now driving to where they lived.

“No Miset, It’s Rose. Uh…” She rubbed the back of her head with her hand, then put a hand through her hair.

“We have a problem… Were in Los Angeles again.”

“Wait, I thought you went back to Delaware?”

“We did, but…” Rose paused, looking at the reirview mirror to see his son asleep on the mattress with her husband. “Something happened to the house, Misty…” Rose sighed, looking out the windshield, she was driving through Hollywood Hills. Rose could see the Hollywood sign-up ahead.

Rose finally drove up to the house and parked behind Misty’s black 2006 Mersidaies Benz C-class. Rose woke both her husband and son.

“Were here?” Greg sat up, Steven opened his eyes, went to the back, and opened the doors. Rose, Greg, and Steven all got their stuff Misty was waiting for them as she helped.

“Thanks for taking us in, Misty. I’d ask Garnet again but, she had us for six weeks already. We don’t need to bother her again.”

Misty smiled. “It’s no problem, Rose. I love having you guys over. Oh, and I have a surprise for Steven.” Misty said, Steven looked up at her in surprise. He wanted to get in the house ASAP to see what it was.

“Can I go in the house to see, mom?” Rose smiles and nods, Steven runs into the house and looks around.

“Misty? I can’t find it!”

“It’s out back!” Misty said

Steven ran out back and saw a trampoline, it had a net around it. Steven was starry eyed then his smile grew. “OHHHHH MY GOSHHHHH!” he said, running to the trampoline. He climbed on and was jumping and having a good time.

“You got him a trampoline?!” Rose said in shock.

“Why no—“ Misty almost got the wind knocked out of her as Rose pushed her. “Out of my way! momma’s gotta trampoline to jump on!” Rose giggled as she climbed on and jumped with her son.

Steven was jumping higher because of Rose’s extra weight.

“Mom! I’m jumping so high—AHHH!” Steven laughed going back down and jumping again. Rose smiled and kept jumping with her son. Greg walked outside, flipping his hair so it will be behind him and smiled.

“Looks like they're having fun on it,” Greg said, taking out his phone to take a picture of his wife and son.

Misty smiles. “I’m going into the music room if you need me.”

“Okay,” he said as he watched his mom leave.

Rose leaned her sword against the wall of Greg’s room. She sat on the bed and sighed, she saw a skateboard by the door, She got up and took it.

Steven was in the living room, watching cartoons, Greg walked downstairs.

“Hey… How are you feeling?”

“Alright… I-I….” He sighed and looked at his feet. Greg puts a hand on his back. Steven hugged him, tears flowing out of his eyes.

“Buddy…. I know you miss home, and I miss home too, but… You have to remember your family is here.. Your friends are here too. Hey! And you can finally go to a new school where you don’t get made fun of all the time for your gem.”

Steven brought his knees to his chin and sighed. Greg hugged him and put his hrybrid child on his lap and stroked his curly hair.

“Steven. I have an idea. Why won’t you text Lucas so he can come over? I can take you guys to the arcade in Santa Monica Pier and we can get ice cream.”

Steven smiles and nods. He would like that. Greg smiles too, Steven takes his phone out of his pocket and texts Lucas.

Greg pats his back and he got his shoes on.

Lucas texts him back with a yes. Steven smiled and then looked at his dad. “Hey, Dad. he said yes. And he texted me to pick him up,” he said. Greg nodded and grabbed the keys to his van. Both Steven and Greg got in and they headed off to Beverly Hills to see Lucas.

“Wait, so you're living here now?! awesome!” Lucas said. Steven nods.

“Yeah, it’s weird because we just went home hours ago, and now we're back….” Steven sighs. Thinking about the beach house which was now burned down because some ding dang wackos decided to light a bonfire next to it or something….

Steven looks at him and smiles, He and Lucas are going to spend a lot more time together.

Lucas and Steven were at Santa Monica with Greg, Steven got ice cream, and Lucas too, Greg was leaning on a railing looking at the beach.

“At least we have our surfboards, we can go surfing one of these days, how bout it, Schtu-ball?” the boy smiled, he liked that idea.

Lucas and Steven went to the arcade. They were both playing until it was time to go back home.

That night, Greg and Rose were in Greg’s childhood bedroom. Greg sighed and lay down next to his wife. Rose rolls over and puts a hand in his hair.

“You okay, babe?” Greg nodded and lay on his back. The silence eating at him.

“You know… I never knew that I would be living with my parents again. Even if it’s temporary.” Greg chuckles at that. Rose put a hand on his chest and traced the fabric of his shirt with her finger. Greg smiled and closed his eyes.

“I know… It’s just so we can get back on our feet, Greg.” She tells her husband. Greg darts his eyes at her and then to the other side of the room.

“That’s the place that we’ve met and decided to settle down, Rose… We had so many memories up in Delaware.”

Rose put his hands in his hair and kissed his head, Greg curled up to her put his head on her chest, and sighed.

“Hey…” Rose said, still stroking his hair. “We could make new memories here, and we can enroll Steven in a new school. A school that he won’t get made fun of for being different because of his background.”

“Your right, Rose…. I love you so much.” Greg said, closing his eyes and falling asleep. Rose fell asleep also.

Shadow Squad: The Missing Cheese

It's not very often I stray into 1950s TV on this blog, not really for any conscious reason except that I tend to prefer the weird and wonderful offerings of the sixties and after.

This is another show that I've had on my hard drive for ages and on my list of things to get round to watching properly, and I'm delighted and also very sorry that I haven't done so so far. Shadow Squad was a series about a private detective which lasted from 1957 to 1959 (this summary is taken from televisionheaven.co.uk). The premise is that Detective Vic Steele (played by Rex Garner), fed up with red tape in the police, leaves to set up his own private detective agency, assisted by Cockney Ginger Smart (played by George Moon) and informally by his charlady Mrs Moggs (Kathleen Bouttall). Part way though Garner left and was replaced by Peter Williams, playing a former Scotland Yard DI.

This flat description places us immediately in a different world, and frankly it feels much more Dick Barton than any of the other television I've posted about here. The professional lead with the working class assistant and the char butting in now and then is so of its time.

I said that I had been made rather sad by finding out about this show and my sadness is that I am made even sadder that there are only four episodes remaining by discovering the names of the all the episodes which sound marvellous. I have always been one to judge a book by its cover and I would absolutely watch Needle in a Haystack, Let Sleeping Dogs Lie, Vital Statistics, The Doll Merchant, and Solo for Ginger. I'm also sad that the final adventure no longer exists because apparently it ended with Williams and Moon investigating a murder at a TV studio only to find it is the real TV studio in which they are playing fictional characters before both breaking character and the fourth wall, introducing themselves to the viewers by their real names and walking off. This is some wild go-ahead stuff for 1959.

After the series ended George Moon starred in a show called Skyport, still as Ginger Smart, where he was in charge of security in an airport. The remaining four episodes of Shadow Squad and the single remaining one of Skyport were released by Network DVD of blessed memory. If you don't want to splash out on physical media the episodes of Shadow Squad are on YouTube - several times in variable quality and don't be deceived by the hour-long episodes, which are just the single ones repeating themselves over and over and not in good quality.

The Missing Cheese is a later adventure starring Peter Williams and following the show's characteristic format of one adventure being divided across several (two in this case) half-hour episodes, which would originally have been broadcast on separate days split over a week. I'm not going to beat about the bush here: I love this one. It's all about a theft of cheese off the bar of a country pub called the Cheddar Cheese and the way this theft leads to a broader web of crime. Plot-wise it's a classic detective story, and if you're an Anglophile who likes Agatha Christie you will love it. It's also set in a village full of great characters. I love this show and am genuinely sorry that there isn't more of it.

It's not a criticism as such because I think it's great, but I think the format of one adventure split across two episodes could be confusing. Otherwise this is intelligent, quirky television. Exactly the sort of thing this blog exists for.

Food log

Pictures and musings of the food I ate for the past week.

On Tuesday, I went to this Indian curry place. Apparently a colleague judges how good the place is not by their curry, but by how big their naan is... And the naan at this place was huge. It was really fluffy, too. My only regret was that I couldn't finish it.

For dinner, I went to a tempura place with more colleagues. There was a bar where chefs would put freshly fried tempura on your plate, but we sat at a table as the bar was full. They gave us a salt plate and a pot with tentsuyu to accompany the tempura, as well as some miso soup and rice. Unfortunately I had a terrible headache from jet lag, so I couldn't stay long. I'd like to go again.

On Wednesday, I started eating in the cafeteria. There's a lot of variety but it doesn't change too much from day to day. I had tonkatsu and rice today. It's really funny, but I think my favorite part of the cafeteria is the drink machine. It has options for water, barley tea, and something else that I can't remember. You can pick hot or cold as well. Maybe I'm biased towards barley tea...

There was a company event for dinner, so I wasn't able to grab any pictures. There was so many people, the introvert in me died inside a little bit. It was mostly catering, so there wasn't much that was interesting. I still had a headache, but I tried my best to stay and social network until the end. I really felt like an adult, working hard at that salary-man life hahaha...haha...

Breakfast on Thursday was an orange jelly cup! I was really excited for this, since for some reason the American version tastes a little different. This one tastes just as processed and canned as I remember. It's perfect.

Obviously the jelly wasn't enough for breakfast (although I really wanted it to be), so I got a sandwich later when the convenience store opened. This one was actually three triangle sandwiches put into one bag, so I ate them separately. I feel like the ones I had in Taiwan were more like three-tiered sandwiches, where it's just one sandwich with 3 layers of stuff and 4 things of bread. I wonder if it's different now.

Lunch was soba. I realized too late that I didn't have enough money in my prepaid card, so I got the cheapest possible thing... and still ended up paying with my foreign credit card. It looks like if I'm in a pinch, I can maybe fallback on foreign cards, but of course the best case is to just charge the prepaid card and spare myself all the anxiety. That aside, the soba was good! It was very barebones, but something about the little tray underneath it makes it so much better.

I truly am living that salary-man life. I got conbini bento for dinner the first chance I could. This one is char siu rice with fried chicken and shioyaki soba. The microwave here looks more like a TV with all the buttons on it, but it has a preset for conbini bento which seems pretty... conbini... :^)

I'm sorry.

Friday breakfast was strawberry jam and margarine bread with milk. Apparently margarine doesn't taste like anything. I'm pretty sure I've had margarine before, but this tasted like bread with strawberry jam, even though I could clearly see something that looked like butter. I'm very confused.

Friday lunch was saba... mackerel I believe? With tofu and some greens. I'm surprised it took me this long to grab a small plate of greens, considering it's basically my life blood. That and rice, I guess. A meal is not a meal until I've had starch, and when in doubt I will definitely go for rice. Or noodles, if it's cold.

Friday dinner was yet another conbini bento, demi-glazed omurice. Conbini bento is actually really good for what it is. If you think about it, it's basically a TV dinner. I've had family size TV dinners in America and still felt hungry, but the conbini bento's have been very filling. Whether they're actually nutritious is another thing.

Saturday breakfast was Tuna mayo onigiri with houjicha. I missed you, conbini onigiri... It's so good, and so cheap...

Saturday lunch (and dinner) was a mackerel bento that had a surprise half croquette and a piece of tamagoyaki in it too. The vegetable side was gobou... which... I personally don't really classify as a vegetable. It doesn't feel like a vegetable dish. I don't feel like I'm eating vegetables. It feels more like a root, like... I dunno, carrot with more fiber.

I was also very curious, so I bought this juice box of vegetable juice. I hated it. I am also pretty confident that I've bought and tried the same thing out of curiosity before, but my brain must have deleted that memory. There are ways to make vegetables taste good, and vegetable juice is not it. Tomato juice is fine on its own, but when you mix grass (not even spinach or some type of leafy green, but GRASS.) and raw carrot in, it is not a good experience. I finished it, because I missed vegetables and I didn't want to waste it, but I hope I actually remember this time so I don't get it again.

Continuities of Addams' Family pt 1: A comprehensive list

I can't take it. Everyone keeps conflating them. So I'll make a list for people to see.

This episode is just pertaining to the entries themselves, maybe a description, and maybe some minor fun facts about each thing (in rough order of release):

New Yorker Comic (1932/33): Dates vary on the "first" iirc it started as who would evolve to become "Morticia" later. None of the chars have names, outside the hinted 3rd child the "Morticia" char is carrying but never births. "Morticia" considered naming the kid: Cain or Ananias.

The Addams Family TV (1964/65, S1/2): Where chars first got their names. Pugsley was originally going to be named "Pubert" but the TV Network rejected the name and so he became Pugsley instead, but not in time for the toys to be produced. His plushie has titled as "Irving Addams" instead.

The New Scooby-Doo Movies/Wednesday is Missing (1972): Stealth pilot for The Addams Family Animated TV (1973). 1964's Gomez (John Astin), Morticia, Lurch, Fester reprise their roles for this short.

The Addams Family Animated TV (1973): There are 3 comic book issue tie-ins to this, iirc they are just comic book versions of 3 episodes from the show. This is the first point (?) where Fester/Grandmama's relationship with Gomez/Morticia change from the 64 version. Only Lurch and Fester reprise their roles from the 64 TV show. A Young Jodie Foster voices Pugsley.

The Addams Family Fun-House (1973): An ABC pilot for a new TV show. Was never picked up. Lost media. Apparently VERY BAD. They were going to have Eddie from The Munsters (OG iirc?) to play Pugsley.

Halloween with the New Addams Family (1977): Sequel/Reunion TV Movie for the 1964 TV show, pretty much everyone reprises their role from the show.

The Addams Family (1991): First theatrical movie. Changes Wednesday's personality to more dark-goth vibes.

Addams Family Values (1993): Sequel to the 1991 movie. Reintroduces the 3rd baby from the comic, and brings back the name Pubert for the new child.

Addams Family Reunion (1998): Direct to video movie, no relation to the theater movies nor the 64 sitcom nor it's 77 tv movie sequel. Tim Curry is Gomez. It is actually a stealth pilot for a new 1998 live action remake show (only the girl who played Wednesday would reprise her role for the show).

The Addams Family: The Animated Series (1992/93, S1/2): A new animated TV show, made thanks to the success of the 1991 movie. John Astin returns to voice Gomez again. ;D Wednesday has the same dark look, but keeps her cheery attitude from early iterations.

The New Addams' Family TV (1998-99): A remake of the 64 live action TV Show. Has new episodes in the line up along with remakes. Maybe tied to Addams' Family Reunion movie because the Wednesday actor returns for this show. John Astin returns for a special role for an episode or two. :3c

The Addams Family Musical (2010): A Broadway musical Adaptation. It's a play a lot of schools like to put on, so there's a few variations in each play book: Pre-Broadway, Broadway/Off Broadway, High School ver (might be almost the same as Broadway ver minus a few edits), Elementary school-30 min ver, and Elementary/Middle School-60 min ver. "Clandango" used to be the opening song rather than "When you're an Addams"

The Addams Family (2019): First theatrical animated movie.

The Addams Family 2 (2021): Sequel to the 2019 movie.

Wednesday (2022): New TV Spinoff featuring Wednesday. And Tim Burton gets to be part of it! The 90s movie Wednesday (Christina Ricci) returns to play a char in this show.

I've got the Autism Headphones and it's allowing me to sort through the noises that bother me (it takes a while to A/B test environmental variables because room sound can be awful on its own). I keep bitching about network television! I keep finding new things to hate about network television!

Yeah, everything is EQ'd poorly. What's been getting me lately is the delivery people use while talking on TV. Everyone makes Life Coach/Elementary School teacher/Communications 101 noises. It's like english as a second language by people with english as a first language? They sound like they're speaking words they've never become familiar with. As YouTube has an accent, so does TV. And TV's is worse. Beth Burnham's picked up an influencer accent, but it doesn't grate the same as the TV accent. There isn't a team constructing a narrative out of her.

Also North American television documentarians don't like music. I like '80s AOR style hard rock but they're doing it wrong.

Anyway, I made some char siu'ish pork and stir fried green beans and it was very good.

ABC Audio launched today the third season of “Life Out Loud with LZ Granderson,” its award-winning podcast focused on LGBTQ+ issues. The new, six-episode season, hosted by ABC News contributor and Emmy® Award-winning journalist LZ Granderson, explores the concept of family as well as parenting through the lens of the LGBTQ+ community. Steve Rogers x Tony Stark x Bucky Barnes - Pokémon AU.

Bucky had to admit, the scene playing out before him was adorable. 

Tony’s newest addition to the tower, a rather rambunctious Cubone, was attempting to steal the TV’s remote from where Steve’s Charizard had moved it after Bucky had used it to put on Char’s favorite channel — the Food Network. What the little thing was planning to do with it, Bucky didn’t know, but it looked like whatever it was, Charizard wanted nothing to do with it. 

The larger Pokémon was seated contently on the floor next to the armchair Bucky had claimed to work on his latest knitting project — a scarf for the little Cubone — and was using his tail to keep the little Pokémon from being able to climb up the couch to grab the remote. 

“Not a fan of cooking shows, little guy?”

Bucky turned to smile brightly as Tony came waltzing into the living room of their personal floor, scrubbing a towel over his still wet hair as he shuffled over to where Bucky sat. 

Quickly moving his project to the side, Bucky opened his arms just in time to catch Tony from where he’d climbed into his lap, and kept him dropping down roughly. “He doesn’t seem to be,” he answered, rearranging Tony till they were both comfortable. “But I think Char’s warming up to him.”

“Yeah?”

Bucky hummed, ducking his head to press a kiss to the crown of Tony’s head, before breathing in the fresh scent of vanilla and coffee. “He hasn’t used his tail to swat him away, just been gently nudging him back every time he tries to sneak his way over and up.”

Laughing lightly, Tony snuggled in further to Bucky’s bulk and heat. “Better than your Bulbasaur did then.”

“Hey! Bulba was great with him,” Bucky protests, laughing as he does.

“He nearly tried to shove Mewtwo out of a window!” Tony argued, shifting to mock glare at him. “If it hadn’t been for Steve, I’m pretty sure a fight would have broken out.”

Rolling his eyes, Bucky gave Tony’s waist a quick squeeze, “That’s just 'cause Bulba wasn’t used to not having your full attention. And let’s not forget Mewtwo definitely didn’t make it easy for him either!”

“What are you two talkin’ about?”

Both their heads snapped around to see Steve coming in carrying grocery bags, Bucky’s Bulbasaur trailing behind him, carrying a few bags with his vines. 

“About how Charizard is warming up to Cubone-”

Both of them began to answer at the same time.

Pausing to blink at them slowly, Steve turned to his Charizard and quirked an eyebrow at the larger Pokémon. Charizard in turn gave a gentle flap of his wings before breathing out a small puff of smoke from his snot. Nodding, Steve resumed moving towards the kitchen. “Alright then. Bulba and I are gonna put this away, can one of you two act like a mature adult for a few moments to order in some takeout? We had a rather strenuous workout at SHIELD and the store was a bit much, so I figure we deserve a bit of a treat.”

“Italian?” Tony asked, turning to press a kiss to Bucky’s cheek before climbing off his lap. Shuffling over, he pulled gently at Steve’s hoodie until he bent down and pressed a kiss to the corner of his mouth. “Or Indian?”

“Indian,” Bucky called out his vote as he began pulling his knitting backout, sending a warm, loving smile to Steve, and a bright blinding one to Bulba before they finished passing through the living room. “Don’t forget to order extra-”

“Curry, I know, I know,” Tony teased as he followed Steve out of the room.

"Don't forget to have FRIDAY call up Mewtwo from his meditation room," Bucky yelled out as a reminder as he settled in to start working on his scarf once again.

Hiroko Moriguchi Sings "Mobile Suit Gundam III" Film Insert Song "Beginning" with Gospel Chorus Group

    Following the Jazz-arranged "Tobe! Gundam" (TV anime Mobile Suit Gundam OP theme), the official YouTube channel for singer Hiroko Moriguchi has posted a music video for "Beginning" (Anime film Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space insert song) from her new album "GUNDAM SONG COVERS 3." The song was originally composed/sung by the late Daisuke Inoue, who also provided the film's iconic theme song "Meguriai."

  With the concept of "Gundam Song Cover Album for Adults", the first album "GUNDAM SONG COVERS" was released in 2019, then reached No.3 in Oricon's weekly album chart and even won the Japan Record Awards' Planning Award that year. Then the second album "GUNDAM SONG COVERS 2" followed in 2020, ranking No. 2 in the Oricon album chart. The total sales of the two albums have exceeded 200,000 copies.

  The third and final album of the Gundam cover song series, "GUNDAM SONG COVERS 3" is set to be released on March 9, 2022. The album consists of a selection of male vocal songs from many Gundam songs.

  The Voices of Japan (VOJA), a chorus group founded by gospel singer Tomoka Kamebuchi, performed with Moriguchi to create this magnificent cover version of "Beginning." The music video shows off a beautiful image of Moriguchi singing with the VOJA members in a mysterious space with images of space and the ocean floor.

ik fans wanna blame SH for the shift in focus but a rookie showrunner having that much power makes no sense. especially when s2 was still such a HUGE hit. i think now it’s more likely sandra/jodie weren’t going to stick with this indefinitely but bbc didnt want to lose its hit show so they tried to still market & chase awards with KE thru E/V but also find an audience for other stories. except shifting away from its leads ruined KE & given that it was to prop up chars like C? phew, resentment!

idk, AMC renewed Orphan Black today probably without Tatiana and I’m just like… this WITH a KE spin off- can y’all invest in new female centric shows instead of squeezing out the remains of previous hits.

There’s an interview that confirmed they enjoy the “female audience” that watches OB and KE was aimed to fill that role for the network and I thought Kevin Can F Himself was the new show they’d invest in after KE but unfortunately they cancelled it after s2 airs.

I appreciate that they pick up these shows for season 1 don’t get me wrong!!!! I’m just looking at TV overall and far more interested in fresh and original stories not spin offs.

Also I blame sid gentle films 100 percent more for the shift in KE but looks like the network was willing to invest in the universe and perhaps that’s when SGF decided to shift the show to more characters. Let me tell you, most the casuals I know who watch KE did not make it through s3 lmao

DC Characters for movies and tv shows are owned by WB, WB owns CBS the CW is a daughter of CBS. Greg Berlanti who does all the CW Arrowverse and other Superhero Shows owns a Production Company he is the own that owns Chars like Sara, Alex Danvers.Thats why they couldn't Batman and other Gotham Chars because the Show Gotham was on a bigger Sister Network. Same thing is happening to the Character Constantine now.

dude half the characters on the cw are lgbt..if destiel doesn't become canon it's not orders from above, it comes from everyone involved in the show, and especially dabb and jensen.

The network gave the go to make God bi, which risked to pi*s off several viewers. Them not making DeanCas canon makes zero sense. They probably won't make Eileen and Sam stay together. Why? Berens and a lot of the other cast and crew ppl follow acc like Super*iki. Berens even created a char just for her. He knows she loves under*ge in*est. They won't make DeanCas move out of subtext to make their friends like Super*iki happy. Don't believe me? Look at Jason F who told us all ships are the same.

Anon no.1 - You seriously blaming Dabb and JENSEN for not making Destiel textual? ppffft bitch please. Jensen has basically admitted Dean’s feelings for Cas live on stage. This perpetual concept that floats around fandom like a bad smell in which Jensen is some anti Destiel homophobe has really got to be VANQUISHED. No matter how much we try to febreeze that bullshit out it still lingers URGH. I’m not sure whether to blame the bronlys or bitter destiellers for it tbh. Right now the lines between both are pretty blurred...

I have spoken about this extensively before. The CW is FINE with LGBTQ+ characters on it’s newer shows, where they are established as queer early on, so the audience is well prepared and willing to accept it from the start. What the execs at the CW might NOT be happy to approve, is taking their 15 year old ancient TV show with a 50/50 split republican/democrat audience, in which half the audience are straight white male republicans with a boner for guns, macho men and action scenes and watch the show purely on a surface level basis, and make the LEAD character who is known to that particular subset of the audience as being THE MOST macho dudebro, a queer character in love with the OTHER lead character who is also an angel.

Do you really not see the difference here? Making God bi? Yeah okay it was controversial, but God at the time was still a minor character in the show and it was a one off line in passing that those dudebro audience members can easily brush off. Making your lead character bi and having an entire story arc where he falls in gay love with his angelic best friend? yeah that’s gonna go down pretty differently. Besides, making Destiel textually canon isn’t gonna be something they can easily remove for the more homophobic overseas Russian and Chinese audiences. Also ask yourself this, since Chuck returned as a recurring character have they mentioned his bisexuality once? At all? Other than the line about him having a creepy obsession with Dean (which is hardly good rep for bisexuals anyway)?!? Seriously can you at least CONSIDER what I am trying to say here and use some critical thinking skills to actually understand this situation.

Also Jason F is a troll who likes to joke around with the fandom. His word also means NOTHING in terms of the writers. The ONLY thing that matters is what we see on the screen, which right now is a pretty intense and heavy emotional plot between Dean and Cas that seems to be building to something pretty epic.

We can also take Jensen’s comments at the latest con into account because he let slip that Dean is into Cas, like literally slipped and confirmed it whilst making a dumb joke because the dude gets awkward when shipping is brought up even though in this case it was about Sastiel not Destiel and Jensen just went and confirmed Destiel, so thanks for that Jensen!
