This is inherently justifiable to people who already spend money on DP but if you're selling a chase item like this by tacking it onto your silly game currency then people who fall outside the purview will be Hella disappointed. You can't even pay me to disappoint people so imagine that they did this on purpose lol OKAY, THAT SAID. I can see that this is what a lot of people have been wanting. It is very romantic (take my opinion with a grain of salt though cuz im not the demographic for this as an ace and a shipper and who doesn't really enjoy certain heteronormative elements lol) and your choices have some weight albeit limited by the metaphysical medium of this game. My rating would be higher if they sold this by itself for $5-$10 dollars. OR. MADE IT UNLOCKABLE... BY PLAYING THE GAME??

LANGUAGE IS IMPORTANT IN ANY MEDIA. And I feel is specially necessary in a show where characters are known for being unable to simply express what they mean, Wednesday is always saying shit between the lines. Like I feel like people forget that language and wording is not simple and meaningless, like guys the curtains being blue is meant to symbolize something. Also the show in general has a lot of analogies and metaphors related to minorities, it wouldn’t be far fetched to think they also have queer analogies. Like for the universe sake guys we had Goody literally being an indigenous person during the genocide of colonialism. THERE WAS LITERALLY A RACIST PILGRIM. The whole outcast community in the show is meant to serve as an analogy for minorities. THE ADDAMS FAMILY ACROSS MEDIA HAS BEEN AN ANALOGY FOR BEING DIFFERENT IN A WHITE SUBURBAN CENTER SOCIETY. It’s not far fetched to think the queer community (A MINORITY) would also have some representation within the show.

Conclusion: Enid is very intentionally a queer analogy and I really hope the show would continue on this analogy even after she finally wolfs out (I’m a blood wolf believer, there is no way they won’t play around with the idea she literally transformed under a blood moon, cause if you pay attention there is no other werewolves in the scenes so they are either cheap or it was a curious detail that Enid is still not a “normal” wolf)

Okay side note after posting this I’ve realized that I’m missing one point and that is the fact the analogies aren’t good. I can admit the show Wednesday is not the best and quite frankly is far from it but I do believe it shouldn’t stop me from thinking of it more critically (or as critically as I can get). But I think my point still stands that it is a very obvious analogy and taking it as accidental is forgetting a part of Enids character.

Also yes I know Tim Burton is KNOWN for lacking diversity and he would likely not make a gay character but I feel people forget he is not the sole person in charge of this show, he can hate minorities all he wants but it takes only one person in that writing room to create the gaynesss that is Enid.

anybody else feel like the scene where reko dies in the Alice Lives route felt weirdly rushed and logically inconsistent compared to Alice's death? more under the cut

The biggest inconsistency is how the real Reko dies in her given route; the fake reko has a knife for whatever reason- ive heard whispers of it being kais so im going to hand wave and assume how it gets in her grasp is discussed at some point (im hoping)- and despite Alice somehow being able to lay there with about 40-60% of his major bodily organs exploded out of his body and still give Reko his dying words, Reko just. instantly dies. flops to floor. from one stab wound. with what i can only assume is a sharpened butter knife because its so damn tiny. she doesnt even fight back? or say anything? these details seem small but feel distracting for such a pivotal moment in the game and seem strangely out of character. i get that the real reko is probably shocked out of her mind about what the fuck is happening, but there shouldve been at least like, 1 line of diaogue making that more explicitly clear. on top of it being kinda bull that they only get to reconcile in the Reko Lives route. It feels like a very purposeful choice to remove Reko's ability to properly forgive her brother in her last moments, so perhaps this is supposed to reflect something about her/the nature of their dynamic, but its execution is just kind of sloppy. Im assuming her strangely instant death was an attempt to make it so she couldnt have last words towards her brother in order to reinforce some aspect of his character arc (in which case it doesnt get covered nearly enough to feel like thats the case, but the yabusame's character arcs being cut short is an entirely different rant) but of all the weird ways to die in this game, why choose stabbing? even choking wouldve made more sense; cant exactly talk while youre being choked. it takes about 4-5 minutes to die from asphyxiation, add a short scene where nao is arguing with the fake reko as the real reko dies and boom. still probably a little too quick to be realistic but i would argue it makes more sense than Instant Death Induced By Butter Knife Impalement. but how the real reko dies is kind of besides the point, because the fact that she passes without dying words is far more bothersome to me. because throughout the entirety of the things that happen between the yabusames in chapter 2, we never get to see what the real reko's view of even a little of it was. all of it is from alice's perspective. part of this makes sense- her relationship with her brother and how she used to be in the past in general* is something shes clearly closed off about. and i could excuse her rushed death if we got a stronger understanding of her view of it in the route where she lives, but we barely even get that either. we dont even get any hint of her feelings on nao dying. why did you give up on the yabusames like that Nankidai. huh. and shes probably holding back discussing any of this because shes not about to trauma dump on a highschool girl, but at least a scene like the one we got in the monitor room where shes obviously sad even if she isnt saying anything. give me reko yabusame shinji ikari posing in that room with all the paintings. anything. *reko AI does give us details about her past, but i think its safe assume this has to do with it being the pre-personality version of reko.

time to talk words about this edit cause . im normal !!! (also kind of just talking a little about the lyrics)

icarus is the one talking, they're singing the song. their font in this edit is "freehand", their text is yellow and the opacity is at 60% at the beginning

the first "wasteland" is in the worldport, there is added glitch effects (though its not that noticable as the worldport often has glitch effects anyway), the text also has glitch effects and is in a different font. this is because that clip "shouldn't" be there, cause the worldport isn't part of that world so it technically shouldn't count. so its all glitchy because it's been inserted into a place it shouldn't be

"where nothing can grow" shows the area near the quixis pond, the purple trees and wrong grass. nothing can grow there because all the plants have been changed and are now wrong. and the word grow is red, and the opacity lowers to 56% which stays for the following text

"if it weren't for you" the word you flicks through a couple colours: yellow -> red -> light purple -> violet, yellow is because its icarus speaking, red as it's the colour already established to be used for emphasis (though it could also be because they love him and red is used to symbolise love, or for the blood they were willing to spill for him) then light purple for Centross, how they knew him before and violet for, well Violet - the god he has become. the opacity decreases on the first you, down to 50%

"alone" the opacity decreases again, now at 45%

"I know in my heart this is where we belong" this part is shown with icarus standing in front of the decay hole, all the text rises up, as if it's rising out of the hole. Icarus knows this is where they should be. Centross' voice is also overlayed here, where he says "you are exactly where you were supposed to be" which fits really well with the line of the song, pretty much meaning the same thing and on the word belong the opacity decreases again to 40%

the word wasteland appears for a second time, with a different font, now in red, this is how it was always supposed to appear, if it hadn't been wrong. this time it focuses on the decay by the quixis pond. the opacity decreases to 35%

"don't let me.." and centross line "and i can't change that" are like opposing lines, icarus doesn't want to go, they want him to save them but he can't "don't let me die" vs "i can't save you" and they're said at the same time

then the repeated "go" each time the opacity decreases by 5% as it has been throughout the edit, and the colour changes from red for emphasis, to yellow just cause it was clearer to see, purple for rae (it would've stayed purple but for visibility i had to change it back to yellow) then when rae is gone is when it is properly yellow, icarus is alone.

"don't let me" is at 5% opacity and then the final "go" which is there, though it might be hard to see (intentionally) is at 2% opacity, which was the lowest i could put it with it being just barely visible.

the gradual lowering of the opacity is supposed to show icarus getting weaker throughout the edit, its set during the finale when icarus is actively dying so its the gradual change of them getting closer to death, and the reason why the last "go" needed to be just slightly visibly is because icarus doesn't die. they need to be just barely holding on because they do stay alive, and they go on to become quixis.

OH YES. I remember my first day of Society Lessons as a hearing person, where the everything was explained to me. Via Audiobook. FIRST they spoke and said, "you are standing on the ground." It was a life changing revelation, and the world began to spin.

But it did not stop.

THEN they said, "there are fingers on your hands." The sensation of flesh and bone crackling into existence is indescribable, but I did not yet know pain, until they told me, "that hurts." I began screaming immediately.

And yet... it continued.

They explained so much. Chairs. Tables. Walls. The sky. Frogs. Ionizing radiation. Breathing. I was told all of it, in one sitting, and only then did I understand. Only when my ears were bursting with normal hearing knowledges, did they begin... my final test.

A strange wall-chair-finger emerged from the sky-of-the-wall, stood on the ground several times, until it was in front of me. A second one came behind it, this one slimmer. The audiobook gave these things names;

Human. Father. Mother. Door. Walking. It was completely impossible to know what these things were until that very moment.

I watch a human dip a hook into water and produce a fish, and I recall my Society Lessons where they called that "fishing." I am decked in the face by a nefarious hooligan, and I have only the audiobook to thank when I know I have been "punched" by a "bad guy." It was only the magic of verbal-speaking-words-noise that made me understand that there are "other people" and that they "do stuff."

Sometimes, even, in "groups."

Before the Society Lessons Audiobook, I knew nothing. I was pure, innocent, uncorrupted by concepts such as "parents" and "door." I am grateful every day that there is no such concept as "being shown things" or "simple logical reasoning" or "looking."

Blessed be those amongst us who escape the horrors of the Society Lessons Audiobook. I pray that you never learn what anything is. Be free! Free as a bird, which also knows nothing and famously cannot learn. 🤗

Yea absolutely! Im sure there's some other Wormblr posts out there that go into this in more depth but I can paraphrase what I was saying to my friends.

We were mainly discussing the concept of "edginess" and excessive anger, violence, and shock value in media and I brought up Worm and The Boys as examples so that I could sort of warn my friend about the tone of Pact without directly spoiling anything. My main thesis is that Worm is incredibly super duper edgy, however it doesn't come across as nihilistic and misanthropic like The Boys does.

I feel as though too often The Boys is usually taking the stance of "well humans suck so if you gave humans superpowers they would find unique ways to suck and the only thing separating normal people from monsters is power. So no one should have power" which I don't inherently disagree with to an extent. It's an exaggerated critique of capitalism and celebrity. But it's also such a gross way to look at humans/the nature of humanity.

Contrast with Worm that says "bad people with superpowers will use their powers to do uniquely horrible things. But good people with superpowers will also be out there doing uniquely and incredibly good things for the benefit of humanity. Every human as the potential for abhorrent cruelty. But it is just as true that those same humans all have the potential to do good."

I think it's really important that the two final and most major antagonists in Worm are motivated by nihilism and hatred of humans. Jack Slash and Scion both have the philosophy of "Humans are cruel. The parts of humanity that are good are losing out to cruelty. Why try and fight it. It's easier to just kill everyone". Contrast Taylor who, I'm 99% sure, never for a second questions if humanity is worth saving. Everyone around her in Gold Morning says "there's nothing we can do so we should at least die happy" and Taylor says "I cannot die happy unless I spend every second of my last day fighting for the miniscule chance to save humanity from extinction". Taylor and the fucking insane lengths she will go to save humans when she doesn't even like them all that much is the heart of Worm. (And like don't get me wrong worm is also about Taylor fucking failing to not partake in human cruelty at basically every opportunity. Quite possibly the worst anyone's ever done it. But that doesn't change the fact that she is trying and in the doing is pushing the audience to try as well)

And on the other hand I think the attitude of The Boys kind of just IS Jack Slashs. I honestly cannot even fathom what the take away is meant to be beyond "people are fuuucked up dude". If I wanted to be especially cruel I would say that I think a large majority of fan base for The Boys was generated on the basis of shock value and the incredibly strong performances from the cast. It's easy to get in to season 1 because it presents a horrible world with no redeeming qualities but you can assume in later seasons "they're gonna figure it out! Good will win out! Or at least good will lose for reasons that connect with the audience and make it a tragedy" but three seasons later theyre floundering to find a message and a reason people should care about the world and it's characters.

At the end of the day TLDR I think worm works because it has something to say and uses edge to support the thesis. The Boys exists more as a framework to explore cruelty in fiction and I just don't think it has a lot to say outside of that.

Back to talking about the Fantasy Fandom and the racism that tends to be part of it!

I genuinely think if Wyll were white he'd get way more attention and love. He'd have sparkle flower crown edits saying "My sweet cornball!!" "My boys got daddy issues!!". Also Warlock is a class beloved by many. And as someone who plays a warlock in bg3 having two of them fucking ROCKED, I always had spells at the ready. So really saying "buh! buh! two warlocks is just bad!" its really not, short rests and cantrips out the asshole really make it easy.

Anyway.

If Gale were black he would be fully ignored and people would, in masses, complain about how annoying he is, how useless he is, how he doesn't really fit in with the rest of the "way more interesting cast". How he's so unbearably straight because all he talks about is his ex.

Lemme keep on this though because if Shadowheart was a Black Person she would have been fucking Crucified for the way she talks about other races, other religions, and just in general the way you have to pull information out of her like pulling teeth. Also if she were a black woman she'd be reduced to "uncaring boss bitch who "dont need no man"" or "unbarable bitch who needs to be Killed"

Wyll was shafted by the game by having literally less content than the rest of the party. Wyll DOES have an interesting story. Wyll is also corny, he's funny, he's so sweet, and his conversations with Karlach are soooo great and yet it's all abandoned because he's generally viewed as "boring".

And by the way. You are allowed to like and dislike characters. But I see a lot of people side stepping the Fantasy Racism to say "but hes just boring thats why I dont like him". Like sure, if you gave Wyll an honest chance and still found him boring then that's your opinion and choice! HOWEVER!! We CANNOT ignore that he is being LEFT OUT of edits, of fan art, of character discussions. When I see posts that are the entire cast MINUS Wyll it tells me everything I need to know about you.

Also one last thing... I cannot imagine being Wyll's VA and seeing how many times you are being left out on purpose. How so few add your character to edits, or fan art. It has to be crushing to some extent, even if you expected it.
