Brazil Federal Police go after ring selling legal guns to organized crime

The Federal Police on Tuesday launched an operation against a criminal ring of state police officers in the Northeastern states of Bahia and Pernambuco that were specialized in selling guns and ammunition to organized crime.

According to a statement, around 320 feds, state police officers, prosecutors, and Army officials participated in today’s operation, carrying out 20 arrest warrants and 33 search and seizure warrants in three states. Furthermore, up to BRL 10 million (USD 1.9 million) in assets were frozen. Three gun stores were closed by a court order.

Army officials carried out inspections in other stores that sell restricted weapons and ammunition in the cities of Juazeiro (Bahia) and Petrolina (Pernambuco).

The crime ring included people with so-called CAC licenses (collectors, hunters, and sports-shooters), which allows them to purchase and own certain guns. The operation was code-named “Friendly Fire”, in keeping up with a longstanding Federal Police tradition to give colorful names to operations.

HARFORD COUNTY, Md. — A Harford County elementary school teacher was arrested in connection to possession and distribution of child pornography.

According to Harford County Sheriff's Office, Dominic Lafrancesca, 27, of Bel Air, was taken into custody on Aug. 18, and has been charged with 11 counts related to child pornography.

Officials said that earlier in 2024, the Harford County Child Advocacy Center received a tip about suspicious internet activity, specifically the downloading of explicit images of children that appeared to be between the ages 1-13 years old. According to the investigation, Lafrancesca admitted to downloading and possessing the content, as well as sharing the photos online with others.

According to the sheriff's office, at the time of his arrest Lafrancesca was employed by Harford County Public Schools and was a music teacher at George D. Lisby Elementary School. The Harford County Public School released the following statement:

"Harford County Public Schools (HCPS) has been informed that Dominic LaFrancesca, a music teacher at George D. Lisby Elementary School, has been arrested on charges related to child pornography. Mr. LaFrancesca has been a teacher at George D. Lisby Elementary School since 2022. Before that date, he was a substitute teacher from 2020 to 2022 at William S. James Elementary, Dublin Elementary, Magnolia Elementary, Bakerfield Elementary, and Fallston High schools. Mr. LaFrancesca has been placed on administrative leave effective immediately."

"We hold our staff to the highest standards and expectations. The accusation that a staff member has violated these standards is devastating. We want to assure our community that we will continue to fully support the Harford County Sheriff's Office and the Child Advocacy Center (CAC) in their investigation. We are committed to maintaining transparency and keeping all families informed during this difficult time."

The Harford County Sheriff's Office is urging anyone with information on this case including those who believe they may have been a victim or have any information about victims in this case to call the Harford County Child Advocacy Center at 443-409-3502.

taking posts like this as an excuse to infodump part 2 :3 this time (still about bardock) about character interactions in dragon ball xenoverse 2

as always, lore dump under the cut

So in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, characters you bring as NPC teammates to help you in parallel quests. These characters have some set interactions with both each other, and the characters you’re fighting. This game feature is what this post is about.

I used to bring just 2 Bardocks with me all the time since he’s my favorite and Gine isn’t officially in Xenoverse 2 (although her clothes are, you bet I have a CAC of just Gine with only Bardock, Raditz, and Goku moves). Because of this, I know he has interactions with a few other enemy characters. When you bring a Bardock friend to fight against a Goku opponent, the conversation goes:

Bardock: “Who are… Oh, I see. You’ve grown big, Kakarot.”

Goku: “You look just like me. Did Oolong shapeshift into me?”

Bardock’s line is sad and always makes me feel sad, because of his story and his non-existent relationship with Goku. And Goku’s response (while a nod to the character Oolong, who is a pig with the ability to transform his body to look like anyone/anything but only for 5 minutes) always breaks my heart, because even though Bardock tried trying to protect him and the rest of the saiyans, Goku doesn’t remember him.

A week or so ago, I bought an item in the TP shop that allowed me to unlock Goku’s blue gi that he wears at the end of z (since his tits are poking out of it and I love me some men with titties) and since then, I’ve starting bringing one Bardock and one Goku. I wasn’t aware until then that there’s actually a different character interaction for when Bardock and Goku are both on your team.

Bardock: “Kakarot… you have to… you have to survive!”

Goku: “All right!”

Instead of responding with confusion, this time, Goku responds with an affirmative. Meaning that, even if Goku doesn’t know exactly who he is, he knows that Bardock is a saiyan who knows him and cares about his well-being. There is also, of course, the chance that this Goku does recognize Bardock, and is even happy to be fighting side-by-side (this is what I choose to believe but I am so starved for content so I sometimes feel like I’m living off of crumbs. And this post is probably proving that to be true lol).

I love Bardock, in both Z and Super, and his lack of relationship with Goku has always felt like a beautiful written tragedy for me. Bardock, who gave up everything in order to ensure his sons’ safety, loses one of them and the other forgets him. Goku spends several years probably hating Bardock out of principle that Bardock is a saiyan and was “employed” (not the word i want to use there lmao) by Frieza. Despite not actually knowing anything about it.

And Bardock is dead! He has been for almost all of Goku’s life! It’s not like he can just show up and explain anything. He has to just sit and watch his son grow up on Earth and socialized as a human just to resent his heritage as an adult.

Doomed by the narrative.

'Low-carbon electricity essential'

One sector with particular fears for a far-right victory is renewable energy, which has already been waiting for months on a government roadmap stretching to 2035 and including items like sites for massive offshore wind parks.

"We're in a state of total instability, just when we need legal guarantees and clarity," he added, saying "it's going to cost us heavily".

"We have a clear roadmap that we need to eliminate carbon emissions," said Nicolas de Warren, president of the UNIDEN association of big industrial energy users.

"What's essential for us is access to low-carbon electricity at competitive prices, whether it's nuclear or renewable".

In 2022, Le Pen promised a fleet of around 20 new nuclear reactors – although her 2031 timetable for delivering half of those was seen as unrealistic.

But she is also a committed opponent of wind energy, vowing a moratorium on new construction and the gradual dismantling of existing parks – plans incompatible with France's climate commitments.

"The laws of economics and energy will catch up" with the RN if it comes to power, one electricity provider said on condition of anonymity.

"We need more cheap energy. Building nuclear takes 10-15 years. What do we do while we wait? And how do we attract battery factories if we don't want any more electric cars?" he added, citing another of Le Pen's bugbears.
