Random Togami Headcanon 16

Byakuya has some opinions about being in a gym class with his other classmates. Also just gym in general. He sure does have an opinion on literally everything though!

And it's not like he's not one to exercise. He does of course! Gotta ensure he can defend for himself as the heir. However, he's still a lean guy and is NO way a gym bro nor would he want to. He'd hate his personality only being "get swoll" or "doing reps". Byakuya's just not that guy in general. Not a gym bro. But, either way, despite not hating the concept of working out and doing some exercises now and again, he still despises gym. School gym. Lotta gyms. Just utter distain within him for it. And it's deep too.

In regards to having gym with his peers in school, he's not fond of some of them looking at him or just Toko in general ogling him. Mostly though, it's the hygiene cus, fancy school or not, regardless of his old school either, it's still a gym. A sweaty ass gym. No amount of air conditioning or funds will change his mind. And golly does he HATE being on the gym floor too and getting his hands on it to do push ups or pull ups or just any time he accidently touches the floor. It's better outside but he also isn't fond of it either since he's still in gym. Also, out of everything in Hopes Peak, the gym is a downgrade in his eyes. Also, he's not too fond of wearing the gym uniform cus he's just gotta whine about everything.

As for general gym happenings not involving school, he just doesn't really like dressing casual for working out which is why his gym clothes at his fancy mansion are custom made. Not that he enjoys those either. Like, if he could, he'd just live in his suits. But, atlas, he's still human. Byakuya also just hates certain workouts in general and even some names of the workouts that he legitimately refuses to ever utter in his life. Good luck guessing which ones! In terms of the workouts and their functions though, he has the dislike for then, not cus of strain. Cus of how he looks or just that he feels the workout is ridiculous and unbecoming of him. Like, he refuses to do jumping jacks and he will die on his hill. Or, basically, if he was in some American school and had to do bear crawls, yeah. He'd freaking HATE that so bad. Don't get him started on group work. He's ALWAYS despised doing group work. 9/10 he's either suck with someone he doesn't like or he just hates the project and it's just a hassle. He especially doesn't like it at gym though cus he's required to either let people touch HIM or HE has to touch THEM. And, depending on the classmates, the disgust varies. Like, he'd rather have Celeste, Kyoko, Makoto, or Taka touch him rather than Toko, or Hiro for instance. That's not to say he doesn't like group projects at times but it is exclusively away from gym since gym is just a big no. Also by "at times" it's just one specific instance There is only one instance he'll like group work and it has nothing to do with him. With group projects come group presentations and OH BOY does he love seeing the real shitshows of them all. The double edged part of it is that sometimes, they're too bad. Too funny to watch so he has to put more work than he calculated to contain himself. Last thing he wants are the commoners commentating on his laughing of all things. Not because they'd hate it. With bad presentations, other's will be guaranteed to find the whole trainwreck amusing. What REALLY makes him contain himself is that he just KNOWS he'll get comments on "how cute he sounds" and the last thing he wants is to die of embarrassment from that. And, honestly, embarrassment as well as disgust are the main factors why he hates gym class so adamantly. What can ya say. He likes his control.

For starters, escaping is basically him committing to an illusion. In truth, you didn’t escape, only he allowed you to run off and give the impression that you got your freedom. The minute you ran out of the house, he alerted his network. Though it broke his heart to witness how you didn’t turn back when you ran out of the compound, he smirked knowing that you were coming right back. Every step you took only played into his grand design.

All those weeks of pretending to befriend him and playing nice just so he wouldn’t suspect your reason for wanting to up and leave worked in your favour… for a while. Aizen had left for a little business trip under his guise for new recruits, and you made the most of the opportunity. Freedom flowing through your veins, you were ecstatic to return to your former life, never looking back. You could already taste the sweetness of independence.

But it happened all too fast despite the months you’d been away. One minute you were opening your front door to greet your visitors, and the next, you were being carried over his shoulder as though you weighed nothing. His grip was ironclad, unyielding despite your struggles. He didn’t care about the tears you shed, all that mattered was you at his side, where you belonged. His voice was calm, yet it held a chilling undertone that made your stomach twist. “While I am disappointed you chose to leave me when my enemies are out there, I am happy to have you back. I’ve missed you, doll.” His smirk widened as he patted your thigh, his eyes glinting with amusement at your futile resistance. “But let’s not try this again, shall we? You wouldn’t like the consequences.”

Later, he’d sit you down, his hands gently cupping your cheeks, his expression deceptively soft. “You need to understand, my love. You are mine. There’s no life for you outside of me.”

As an observant individual, he always has his eyes on your every move around the house and reading your body language the minute you decide to plan your escape. The thing was, Byakuya didn’t intervene, hoping that you weren’t so foolish to leave him, but you still attempted. It was the biggest mistake because you couldn’t make it out of your shared bedroom.

Sitting on the edge of the bed, you were mentally counting down the days until you made your move to escape, all the while fighting to keep up the distant-loving lover act for him. Byakuya saw right through your schemes, but he didn’t know the exact moment you’d act. Would you dare to test him? Would you defy his trust?

Strutting into your room and sitting on the opposite end of the bed, he greeted you nonchalantly and began removing his shoes. The silence was suffocating, the tension thickening with each passing second until he finally spoke, his voice cold and laced with authority. “Whatever it is you’re planning, I’d drop the idea or unpleasant things might result from it. You’re not leaving me.” His gaze was piercing, holding yours captive as if daring you to challenge him. You didn’t know how else to respond other than to sit there, your heart sinking as the truth wrapped around you like chains.

He didn’t stop there. Byakuya stood and walked over to you, his fingers tilting your chin up so you had no choice but to meet his icy stare. “Do not mistake my calm demeanour for leniency. If you attempt something so foolish again…” His unspoken words were chilling, but his touch was almost tender, a contrast that made your heart pound with fear and confusion.

As another observant person who enjoyed acting dumb and fooling everyone, he had gotten the tip-off about you purchasing a plane ticket and decided to confront you. Aside from the many times, he came down harshly on you, he was too calm when he approached.

Standing before the door with your plane ticket in hand, waving it around like some prize you had to claim, Askin strutted over to you with a pout on his face. “I noticed you booked a flight out of the country but didn’t book one for me. So, I took the liberty of purchasing another so we can go together, less you wish to stay here?” Underneath those pouty eyes that turned into cheerful gleams, you would see the warnings.

The deadly glares that penetrated your soul without remorse. He was testing you, observing your every twitch, your every breath, to see your reaction and how loyal you were proving to be. Making the wrong move, and you had no idea what he would do. Make the right move, and you might be spared his wrath—but you’d never be alone again. “I hope you understand that you are mine, and you are not leaving me,” he said with his voice dripping with finality as he leaned closer, his breath warm against your ear.

When you didn’t respond immediately, he leaned back and tilted his head, his smile growing sharper. “I wonder what you were planning to do once you landed? Find someone else? Start a new life? How foolish,” he mused, his voice dripping with mockery. “You belong to me, and there is no escape from that.”

He’s a lot more playful than the others. He’ll toy with you and give the opportunity to escape right before his eyes just to see what your decision would be. And to his best guess, you do escape which creates the game of cat and mouse, his favourite. Kisuke would chase you about and give you the false advantage that you’ve outsmarted him, but you only ran into his trap. You had never escaped him from the very start.

From climbing into the taxi to speaking to strangers, to the affordable house on the street, to the job you obtained, it was all his design, making you believe that you regained your wings. When he grew tired of waiting and watching and missing your company, one morning while you were walking through the streets on your way to work, he casually approached you with a pretentious pout.

‘Begging you to return’ didn’t even begin to describe it. He wanted to see you feisty, standing up for yourself just so he could clip your wings and squeeze you into his embrace. And he did. Wrapping his arms around you tightly, his fingers dug into your back as he whispered into your ear. Explaining everything from the very start to the end and watching your face fall, he felt pride surging in his heart. “You did so well, sweetheart, but I’m tired of playing and I want you back home. You’ve been free for too long.” His grin was sharp, his eyes narrowing as if daring you to protest.

As he dragged you back, he couldn’t help but chuckle softly, his breath ghosting against your ear. “Next time, let’s not waste so much time pretending, hmm? You’ll always come back to me, no matter how far you run.”

You have a running streak with ending up with manipulative and overprotective yanderes at this point because you should know that there’s no escaping this guy. Like the others, Jugram has his hunter’s instinct and knows that there is a difference in your behaviour. One day you began treating him nicely, making him breakfast, lunch and dinner or greeting him at the door when he returned from meetings and trips. He knew something was off and he was right when he decided to snoop around and discover your duffle bag filled with clothes and money.

You were attempting to leave him, and he did not appreciate your gesture. To think that after all he had done for you, this was how you repaid him. The betrayal stung, but it was masked by his icy composure.

The day you decided to make your move, panic consumed you at the disappearance of your bag. The slamming of a door alerted you to someone in the room. Swivelling around and coming face to face with Jugram silently fuming and your duffle bag at his feet, you froze. His normally calm demeanour was fractured, his blue eyes blazing with a cold silent fury. He was itching to let out his anger but knew it would end terribly, so he simply stared, his cold gaze locking you in place.

“I hope I’ve made myself clear. Never a next time,” he warned lowly and dangerously, the restraint in his tone more terrifying than any shout. His presence loomed over you, suffocating, as you realised there was no escape from him. Ever.

He stepped closer, his voice softening but losing none of its edge. “Do you know what happens to people who betray me?” he asked, his tone almost conversational. “I’ll forgive you this once, but if you ever try something like this again…” He let the threat hang in the air, his piercing gaze doing all the talking.

Hey! I was wondering if you would do a headcanon for the lieutenants and captains for the kind of hugs they give.

Jushiro Ukitake: The calmest, warmest hug to ever exist. He wraps you up in his arms, cradling the back of your head and just comforts you in a way that is out of this world. A hand rubbing up and down the long of your back, his head near your ear, soft, warm breaths hitting your earlobe.

Shunsui Kyoraku: He hugs you in a loving way, but he's a little cheeky and mischievous with it. Strong, muscular arms wrapping around your body and pulling you into his chest. Placing a soft kiss on your forehead as his hand runs down the curve of your back to your ass, squeezing the flesh.

Byakuya Kuchiki: His hugs are like a crispy, chill afternoon. He won't show affection or hug you in the public, but if it’s just the two of you, it's a different story. Arms gently wrapped around your waist, squeezing you every once in a while. His chin resting on top of your head, holding you in such a caring way. It's relaxing and refreshing to have Byakuya holding you.

Kenpachi Zaraki: At first, his hugs at first are like a porcupines needles, but then they are smooth like the back of a whale, so strong and powerful, but yet, calming and not overwhelming. He knows his strength, so he knows how tight to hold you. It's comforting how tight he can hold you and he runs his hand over your head, gripping the back of your neck. He complains when you ask for a hug, but it makes him the happiest man in the world.

Shinji Hirako: He's super greedy with it comes to hugging. He'll squeeze you until you can't breath and are squirming against his body, trying to get out of his tight grip. Seriously though, when he hugs, he can't get enough of you. He'll breathe in your scent and have his arms wrapped around you so damn tight. Shinji will squeeze your flesh and even tickle you and hold you so you can't escape from his tickles.

Toshiro Hitsugaya: His hugs are a little complicated. At first, he'll be cold and shoot you a sharp glare when you ask for a hug. Although, Toshiro cannot resist a hug from you and he caves in. He wraps his arms around your waist and holds you, muttering underneath his breath about how he doesn't like this. You laugh because you know that he does like hugging you, but he doesn't like how vulnerable it makes him. He'll place a kiss on your forehead before fully pulling away from the hug.

Mayuri Kurotsuchi: He won't deny you a hug, but he might tease you about it for a little. He laughs like a manic and grabs onto your shoulders, pulling you onto his lap. He's probably stuck in his lab when you ask him for a hug and he refuses to leave his hard work, so he just places you on his lap and multitasks. He'll stroke your hair or rub your back, typing on his keyboard and clicking on the mouse. He enjoys these quiet moments with you.

Kensei Muguruma: His hugs are firm and his big beefy biceps squeeze you 😩 (what i wouldn't do to have my head being squeezed in his bicep...ahem) The smile that grows across his face is huge as he pulls you into his big chest for a hug. He loves hugging you and especially if you're sad or something, he loves cheering you up. You feel so happy and calm in his arms. His hugs are kind and will last forever; Kensei never wants to let go, but knows he has to go back to work.

Soi-Fon: A quick, but consoling hug. I imagine that Soi-Fon doesn't really like hugs, but for you, she'll put up with it, but only for a few seconds. She won't admit it, but for the first few seconds, she indulges in the hug and cherishes it. She'll start patting your back before pulling away, face twisted with uncertainty.

Sajin Komamura: A big, fluffy hug :) You know the kind of hug that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. He'll hold you as long as you need, but in reality, Sajin needs this hug more than anything. He loves to cradle you in his arms and breathe in your scent, relaxing his whole body.

Oh he definitely has awareness of those skills and knows how to use them to get things to go his way. But like you said, emotional intelligence is needed to actually attract genuine love and affection.

“I won’t be long. Just stay here. The squad will protect you.”

“I don’t need protection.” [Y/N] insisted as they looked up at Byakuya with earnest and determination. “I want to be with you.”

The captain smiled; or rather the corner of his lips tilted up. His hand reached out to clasp their cheek. “You will be with me. In my heart. But I cannot do what needs to be done if I’m worrying about you. Please, stay here with the 6th and keep order in my stead.”

[Y/N] huffed and turned their head away, but nodded.

Byakuya lifted their head back up towards him and leaned in for a kiss. He was aware this was dangerous. He was aware that the threat of death was a possibility. He was also aware that he couldn’t stand the thought of them being out there in the middle of it, and would gladly take on this danger alone to keep them safe.

He was also aware this was the last time he could see them.

“Captain! The enemy has broken through the first barriers on the west gate! 1st squad said—”

Byakuya pulled away from his love to level a stern, icy hot glare, at his vice-captain. “I will be there shortly.”

Renji visibly gulped and backed out of the room quickly. “I will be back as soon as I can.” He placed a kiss on their knuckles. “Be safe.”

Ichigo

“This is so stupid….”

“Come on. Don’t pout.” Ichigo replied. Halfhearted as he knew there was no way they weren’t going to pout. It just seemed like the thing to say.

“Why do I have to stay here?!” [Y/N] insisted. This close to stamping their foot down about it. “I’m not a child! And I’m not helpless! I can fight too!”

“I know you can.” He told them. “But I just want you to stay here and help with the ones that make it past. There important too!”

“You just want me benched and picking off small fries.” [Y/N] flopped down on the couch and literally pouted. Clearly not a fan of his plan.

Ichigo sighed and came up to them. “Look, I’ll be honest ok?” They glanced up at him, but only a little. “It makes me anxious when you’re out there.” They seemed surprised by his answer and Ichigo rubbed the back of his head. “It’s one thing when it’s the others, but with you….I can’t think straight and it makes me do stupid stuff. I’d just feel better if you stayed back here. Where I know you’re safe.”

They seemed to think it over for a minute before [Y/N] sighed. “I guess that makes sense. In a really dumb way.”

Ichigo smirked, then knelt down in front of them. “Hey, I never said I was a smart one. Just good looking.”

[Y/N] laughed a little, and Ichigo leaned in to give them a kiss. He was telling them the truth. Of course he cared about his friends & comrades on the battle field. With [Y/N] though, he’d do really stupid stuff to keep them safe.

“Ichigo! We have to get to the west gate! The barricade as already---”

“Jeez Renji! Ever think of knocking!”

The other red head seemed to sputter, sensing deja vu, but then just left to go tell the others.

“Least I won’t be the dumbest one out there.” Ichigo muttered, before he turned to [Y/N] and gave them a quick kiss. “I’ll be back. Keep your head down and try not to break anything important if you can!”

Ishida

“Are you sure you’re fine with this?”

“Yes, Uryuu, go. I said I’ll be fine and….I want to help.”

Ishida’s face scrunched in an unappealing frown as he looked around. He supposed that the 4th was the safest place for them. It was the highest concentration of healers, and Captain Unohana was there; who always somehow gave Ishida a cold chill. Still, he didn’t want them to be anywhere near a battle. “Let me just have someone open a portal to send you home. Humans shouldn’t be here.”

“You’re here.” They insisted.

To which Ishida pushed up his glasses and told them, “that’s different. I’m a Quincy.”

[Y/N] stood up from their crouched position, helping get some of the beds ready for the inevitable injured, and looked him dead in the eye. “I know I’m not like the rest of you. I know I’m not special. Or have powers. Or am good at fighting. But this is something I can do. I want to help. If my friends, and the world, is in danger I want to do something. Let me do this so I can feel important for a change too.”

Ishida instantly buckled at their resolve. He should have known better. [Y/N] had a huge heart and wanted to help everyone. There was no way he was going to get them to budge. “You are important.”

The quincy leaned in and gave them a kiss. Permission, in a way, although they didn’t need it, for them to stay while he went out and fought. He’d honestly feel better knowing there were here to take care of him if he was injured.

“Ishida! Man, everyone is being super crazy today. We need to get to—”

“Get out of here Renji! This is a private area!” Ishida shouted, beet red at being caught kissing his s/o.

This time Renji just huffed with a shrug and walked out. “Did you really need to yell at him?”

“He…He startled me!”

[Y/N] smiled. Then they leaned up to give him another quick peck. “Try not to get cut. I’m not as good with a needle and thread as you are.”

♡ He tentatively asked you about it when he was sure you were feeling up to responding, and he was so very respectful about it.

♡ After you took the time to patiently explain selective mutism to him, the two of you were immediately on the same page.

♡ He finds himself on the internet often, idly looking through posts made by people with the same problem, hoping to understand better.

♡ Now, once he realizes you’re not responding, he just switches casually to yes or no questions.

♡ He immediately relaxed around you, a barely noticeable drop in his shoulders telling you that he was no longer tense.

♡ He hasn’t exactly changed any of his behavior regarding your nonverbal bouts, aside from the fact that he no longer scoffs and rolls his eyes when you don’t respond to him.

♡ Still, the air around you two seemed to be rid of tension all at once, and you settled into a peaceful rhythm with one another.

Yasuhiro Hagakure:

♡ If we’re being completely honest, Yasuhiro didn’t notice.

♡ He kinda just thought you liked to spend quality time fully chilled out. He could get behind that.

♡ So when you went quiet when hanging out with him, he went quiet too. Just vibing.

♡ You, however, misread this. You thought he was angry with you for “not trying” to be social, and that was why he stopped talking when you did.

♡ When you finally worked up the courage to apologize, and explain yourself, Hiro just blinked at you.

♡ He just sort of goes: “… oh! Dude, I thought you were just chilling! Like, thanks for telling me, but I was having a good time. You don’t gotta apologize for that!”

♡ And, honestly, nothing actually changes after that.

♡ Now that you knew he was perfectly fine with hanging out in silence with you, the only thing that really changed was that you weren’t stressed about it anymore.

♡ The two of you simply lounge in his comfy dorm room, sometimes cuddling, sometimes not. Hiro appreciates the vibe either way.

Leon Kuwata:

♡ The first time you ever went nonverbal around him, he thought you were being funny.

♡ It took him a minute to process, but once he understood, he was committed to being as supportive as humanly possible.

♡ When you two were out with friends, and he noticed that you were retreating in on yourself, he would redirect the conversation to himself. He’d answer questions for you, butt into side conversations that were meant for you, all so you wouldn’t feel nervous about speaking to other people.

♡ He does his absolute best to make you feel comfortable when you’re muted. He doesn’t even care that friends start to think he’s a bit too eager to talk to them. Just as long as you know he’s there for you.

Chihiro Fujisaki:

(Chihiro will be included in both thh boys and girls groups for headcanons, unless specified otherwise)

♡ Chihiro was fully convinced you were mad at them.

♡ It took them maybe two minutes to start tearfully apologizing for whatever they did to upset you, and you panicked.

♡ As much as you wanted to verbally reassure them, you knew you just couldn’t. So, instead, you gestured wildly, shaking your head with wide eyes.

♡ Despite their nerves, Chihiro managed to get the gist of what you were trying to say: They’re good, talking is bad.

♡ After apologizing for apologizing, Chihiro just stayed close to you for a long time. They wrapped their arms around one of yours, and leaned on you to provide some sort of comfort, though they didn’t know if it was more for you or for them.

♡ It wasn’t until everything clicked in their head, that you were simply nonverbal, that they relaxed entirely.

♡ They dutifully took on the role of caretaker, even if you didn’t necessarily need one. They’re always so eager to care for you, protect you, so you just sit back and allow yourself to be pampered.

♡ They make extra sure that you eat, and that you’re drinking enough water. They’ll pool all of their stuffed animals- and yours, if you have any- into one room, and make you a lovely little cuddle pile to let you rest your mind for a while.

♡ Their support is, for all intents and purposes, aggressive. It’s surprising, but not unwelcome.

Mondo Owada:

♡ Like Chihiro, Mondo totally thought you were mad, and he’d done something wrong.

♡ Unlike Chihiro, he sorta shouts his apology at you. His damned nerves always made him too loud and jumpy, after all.

♡ When you’re able to explain, it takes him a while to wrap his head around. It’s not something he’d ever heard about before, but it was you, so it had to be important.

♡ It takes a lot of patience, but he eventually gets it. After that, he’s stuck to you like glue every time you go mute.

♡ He’ll wrap his arm around your shoulders if you’re in public, and give withering stares to anyone who tries to press you to speak.

♡ It’s genuinely impressive, how intense he gets when he’s defending you.

♡ In private, however, he’s much softer. Tactile as he is, he loves to hold you tightly, encouraging you to rest and take it easy.

♡ When he speaks, he does so in such a soft voice it nearly makes you cry. Adoration is poured into every syllable, and it’s almost too much to bear.

Kiyotaka Ishimaru:

♡ Unlike everyone else, Taka knew about your selective mutism the moment the relationship started.

♡ He’s a firm believer in bold simplicity, so the moment you expressed that you wanted to be his partner, he told you everything.

♡ Naturally, he encouraged you to tell him everything as well, as transparency is one of the most important things to him.

♡ When you got to your selective mutism, Taka didn’t know what it meant. But what does he do when he doesn’t know something? He researches!

♡ Hundreds of questions followed. “How often would you say this happens? Are you able to type or write during these episodes? What are some things I could do to ease your mind when you’re nonverbal?” It was like talking to a doctor.

♡ Even after his conversation with you, he wasn’t satisfied with his own knowledge, and he turned to the internet.

♡ He researched and researched, and came out two days later with an arsenal of information and tools at his disposal. It’s… actually a little intimidating.

♡ He even went so far as to make flash cards for you! Little cards with basic sentences and questions on them that you could use to communicate.

♡ No matter what it is you may need or want, Taka gets it for you so fast it’s impressive. If you need something that isn’t on one of your cards, he wastes no time in making a new one for you.

♡ His tendency to bury himself in research and practice is a bit hard to be annoyed by, especially when it’s for you.

Hifumi Yamada (Platonic):

♡ Hifumi put two and two together remarkably fast.

♡ You simply didn’t want to talk. That was fine. After all, you were one of his first friends. Who was he to complain?

♡ He doesn’t ask questions or press you for conversation. He only ever asks if you’re feeling alright, before moving on.

♡ If you’re the type that likes to be talked to when you’re nonverbal, he’ll talk your ear off.

♡ He just has so many ideas running around in his head! He could keep you entertained and engaged for days.

♡ If not, he’s more than happy to sit in silence with you as he works on a project. You make a fantastic body double, he quickly discovers.

♡ Overall, he’s incredibly relaxed about your selective mutism. Unexpectedly, he’s the type to just go with the flow. When it comes to you, at least.

A Pile Of Canon Divergent Danganronpa Headcanons:

The students absolutely did not get along when they first enrolled, they were all legit getting on each others' nerves and every other day was a shouting match.

Byakuya doesn't mind Ultimate Impostor's presence most of the time, but there have been times when he was seriously creeped out by Impostor.

After they adopted Kotoko, Hifumi collected all his loli/shotacon and invited Kotoko to help him burn it. Seeing the damage adults did to Kotoko has him rethinking his tastes in manga altogether.

If Kiyotaka catches anyone running in the halls he will drag them to that person's starting point and make them walk back to their destination.

When Gonta inevitably found out that Hiyoko liked squishing ants, he sat her in front of the biggest anthill he could find and unloaded ant facts on her. This bored the habit right out of Hiyoko.

Everyone has accidentally locked themselves out of the school at least once.

Over time, everyone noticed that Mikan was tripping over less and less. Though she attributes it to learning balance from Sakura, she subconsciously knows it's because she doesn't need the attention anymore.

Mikan wants to cure Nagito's terminal illnesses, but fears that Nagito's luck would kill him if she does so.

Mikan cares deeply for the Warriors of Hope, and is a key player in their rehabilitation.

The virtual Jabberwock Island from Danganronpa S is still there...but the students actually built it to get away from their oppressive dickhead superiors that they hate. It has the 50 day summer camp mode for all of them, or a solo mode for anyone to set a specific amount of time within the virtual world to unwind.

[Very slowly lays hand on Masaru's head as to not trigger his trauma of being slapped] This boy can fit so many cuddles and kisses.

Jataro won't just let you hug him, the little mf will let you s q u i s h him into your body with all your love and might. As long as he can still breathe he will be happy and let you hold him.

Kirumi cracks pretty easy under stress. She doesn't lash out at everyone so much as she curls up against the nearest wall and rocks herself.

Don't ask Kirumi to reenact Jackass with you, or she will absolutely overcomplicate the assignment and seriously injure herself. She does not comprehend physical comedy, much less the line where physical comedy becomes everyone around her fearing for her life.

Ryota straight up lives in the walls along with the balding Monokuma from V3. Junko and Ultimate Impostor are the only ones who know, but neither of them have been successful at getting Ryota out of his shell.

Korekiyo has been given an intervention by all the girls at Hope's Peak. It ended with eight hours of group hugging. Korekiyo is feeling better now.

Korekiyo and Kirumi have routinely fought over the air conditioning.

Masaru will bite anyone at least once, but for reasons only known to himself, he likes biting clowns the most. He will hunt down any clown that appears in his field of vision and not stop until he gets a bite.

If Gonta finds any insect traps or insecticides, he throws them down the garbage chute.

Hajime is still Izuru, but it's an open secret. His classmates love him no matter what his identity is. <3

Reserve Course students weren't so chill about Izuru, however-they wanted Jin Kirigiri's BLOOD. And the Ultimates just kinda let them do it for treating their friend as a lab rat.

One winter when the heater broke everyone slept together in the gym until it was fixed. We're talking a pile of blankets that was three feet thick.

They legit would not trade each other for the world except for Kokichi and even then Suichi would still be sad about it

Mahiru doesn't like taking pictures of Ryoma because his weirdly large eyes reflect all the light and the result always looks terrifying.

Someone kept leaving a stuffed toy clown in random places around the school...until they adopted Masaru and he promptly bit the shit out of it.

Ibuki tried playing from the rooftop once. It took 8 hours to find her, 4 hours to coax her down, and 2 hours to soothe her afterwards.

Nanokumas like to move things around when nobody's looking.

All Ultimates are prone to getting the zoomies. It ranges from Leon running around in circles to Sakura almost leveling the school.

Reserve Course students like to observe the Ultimates because Ultimates are all stupid fucking dorks and watching them accidentally stir up chaos is great entertainment.

Hope Fragments appear when a student feels their happiest. It forms within the body and gets hacked up like a hairball.

Gonta routinely has nightmares about being caught in a venus flytrap.

Fuyuhiko has become aware of Yasuhiro's debt to his family, and holds it over his head.

Peko wonders if her parents know about her becoming an Ultimate.

Junko is trying really, really hard to feign apathy towards her classmates in the name of Despair, but no one buys it.

Mukuro and Peko like to spar together, and they're pretty evenly matched.

Miu is soft (by Miu standards) towards Chihiro.

Miu becomes very anxious and needy at the mere thought of graduating from Hope's Peak and moving away from her friends.

Hey what monsters and other mythological beings do you think would suit the danganronpa cast

Ooh, in what way? To embody them/transform into? (Like, vampire, werewolf...?) Or like, to have as a familiar? And do you mean what creatures would suit them collectively, per cast, or individually, one each? I'm going with one each.

Okay, there are so many different ways to go with this, but I think I'm going to have some of them be the creature and some of them have the creature, just based on which I like most for them. Also, I might end up playing fast and loose with what counts as a "mythological being".

Oh boy, this is going to be long. 🤣

THH CAST

Makoto Naegi- Now, if I had to make him something, it would be a werewolf. We've discussed what a great werewolf he makes, lol. If I'm keeping to the thematic importance of him being "normal", though, I'd say he's a human with a familiar. And his familiar...Gosh, it's way too early to say "phoenix", but I'm just picturing him taking care of what he thinks is a normal bird, but then it turns out to be a phoenix. Kind of a "Hope keeps on going!" thing.

Kyoko Kirigiri- Kitsune? It feels pretty early to say that, too, but it was the first thing that came to mind. And I feel like it suits her.

Byakuya Togami- He's a vampire, because he's a billionaire.

Aoi Asahina- She deserves to either be a naiad or ride a hippocampus. Preferably the latter.

Yasuhiro Hagakure- Dryad. I just kind of like the idea of him being a tree. And his fire trauma would make sense. Imagine taking a long walk in the woods, you lean against a tree, and either Hiro steps out of the tree or his voice comes from it, like "Hey, while you're here, want me to tell you your future?" Or, "Hey, welcome! Leaning against the trunk? That's cool. I mean, there's a two thousand yen fee for leaning, but you can chill here as long as you want!"

Toko Fukawa- I'm picturing her with stitched-together skin covering a mass of insects, like Oogie Boogie. Or a gorgon.

Junko Enoshima- She gets a pet meenlock. I just read through the lore around those, and that just has her name on it, to me. Meenlocks attack people telephathically to corrupt all that's pure and good, and when their victims succumb they become meenlocks, too? There's something there, idk. I'm just imagining her singling out someone who she wants out of her way, opening her purse, and a meenlock scuttles out and starts stalking them.

Sayaka Maizono- I worry there's a kind of misogynistic connotation to saying she's a siren, but I also think it would be cool for her to have siren powers, and it makes sense for her. I like Siren Sayaka.

Mukuro Ikusaba- My first thought was just picturing her as that little nerd kid in Sky High who could turn into a rock monster. It can't be that. Maybe doppelganger. Like, instead of being Junko's twin, she's Junko's doppelganger.

Leon Kuwata- Vampire I guess?

Chihiro Fujisaki- Kinari. That's just Chihiro with wings. I like the idea of giving Chihiro wings. Maybe werebird instead. Somewhere in the ballpark of "Chihiro with wings".

Mondo Owada- Ngl, he's giving werewolf pack leader.

Kiyotaka Ishimaru- Werewolf without a pack. He's a werewolf who conforms to human society. Chains up on full moons; very traditional.

Hifumi Yamada- He'd be some kind of faerie or elf. Some creature with a lifestyle that allows him to just do his little things to the distant sounds of woodwind instruments.

Celestia Ludenberg- Should I give her vampire? Should I give it to her? Nahhh. Her cat is a werecat, though; that's a cool vibe for her.

Sakura Ogami- Can she just have a dragon? I want to give her a dragon. I want to respectfully and lovingly place a dragon egg in her hands, that she may raise it as her own.

SDR2 CAST

Hajime Hinata- Human who is turned into a vampire.

Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu- I'd be remiss if I didn't paste this line from Wikipedia: "Hitotsume-kozou – A Yōkai that takes on the appearance of a bald, one-eyed child." Now, that's not my answer, but it's interesting. Real answer is, he's a tiefling.

Sonia Nevermind- I have said, and maintain, that she would make a cool werewolf.

Kazuichi Soda- He's a high fantasy dwarf, in that he'd thrive forging stuff underground. Or he's part shark.

Akane Owari- This sounds bad, but I'm feeling gargoyle? Not in the "ugly" sense of the word; I just think she would enjoy perching on a high ledge and scaring away demons.

Ultimate Impostor- Shapeshifter of any kind.

Teruteru Hanamura- This is weird, but I just imagined him with a pet hydra, where, like...He can cut off its head and cook it, and the hydra keeps living, now with two heads in place of the one. And if you ever told him, "Stop using your pet for meat; that's way too many heads," he'd be like, "And speaking of head..." (Or "speaking of meat".) Another option is making him an incubus. I think a fitting answer is to say he has a kechibi, a ghostly fireball with a human face, since those are apparently told of in Kōchi Prefecture, which (based on his previous high school) might be where he's actually from. He would lie about that.

Mahiru Koizumi- I'm imagining she has a pet ghost dog. Like, the ghost of a dog. It shows up in some of her photos, but other than that it's invisible. Can bump into things and make noise, though.

Peko Pekoyama- ...Okay, so hear me out. Peko gives me big "secret mermaid" energy. Like, one of those movies where the main character is a teenager who discovers they're a mermaid. She was given up by her parents, right? Secretly, her parents were merfolk (or ningyo). And either her mermaid abilities start to become apparent as she grows up, or there's a Thing that happens that causes them to activate, like Fuyuhiko is drowning and she has to save him.

Hiyoko Saionji- I'm just imagining she has a bunch of haunted dolls. They move around and everything, when she's not looking. Alternately, kitsune.

Ibuki Mioda- Banshee! Easy. (dusts off hands) Very cool and on-brand for her.

Mikan Tsumiki- She's a lamia; she got a snake tail.

Nekomaru Nidai- He's a manticore or minotaur.

Gundham Tanaka- He takes care of werewolf Sonia when she's in wolf form, but he doesn't know it's her. Besides that, I can see him caring for all kinds of monsters, front-of-mind being a griffin. Imagine Gundham brushing a griffin. Riding a griffin. Trimming a griffin's claws. Roaring with a griffin.

Nagito Komaeda- Okay, he's a changeling. Or, more accurately, he's the inverse of a changeling. He's a human child who was replaced by some manner of fae folk, meaning his human parents raised a faerie in his place and he, in turn, was raised by faeries. He learned faerie ways without being subject to their actual qualities. Basically, he's a human and he talks and acts like a faerie (speaking in deceptive truths, very committed to obscure rules and principles, and possessing kind of an edge of whimsical cruelty) without actually having an inability to lie or an aversion to iron. (Alternatively he could be a puca, and actually that description matches him really well, but I don't wanna, lol.)

Chiaki Nanami- She's an enenra. They can only be seen by the pure of heart, which feels like it checks out. She's a ghostly apparition that appears out of bonfires, which feels fitting for her talent, in my opinion; video games, at their best, are a communal experience, much like bonfires. Bonfires were the video games of ancient times. (Yep, I'm making that a real opinion of mine. Why not?)

V3 CAST

Kaede Akamatsu- A dryad, partially because she has a tree name and partially because it was definitely going to be a kind of nature spirit and it was between a tree one and a star one. I went with tree.

Shuichi Saihara- Shuichi is Mothman. (turns off microphone)

Maki Harukawa- Tiefling? I'm gonna say she's a tiefling.

Himiko Yumeno- She has a jackalope. She pulls it out of a hat.

Tsumugi Shirogane- Giving her a phoenix would parallel how Danganronpa keeps coming back, but it doesn't match her vibe at all. I'm gonna say she has some little imps that she dresses up as meenlocks as a part of her Junko cosplay.

Kiibo- He doesn't get one unless you make me, lol. Nothing against him; he's just already a robot.

Rantaro Amami- He's a sleep paralysis demon, but he's very affable about it.

Ryoma Hoshi- He's also a sleep paralysis demon. He doesn't say much.

Kirumi Tojo- I see her as a high fantasy elf. Girlie was born to divine great insights from the wind through the trees and impart them cryptically to brash young heroes and be invited on adventures.

Angie Yonaga- Baku. I already made her a daughter of Morpheus in the PJO AU, so perhaps I'm having too much fun with this headcanon-y association of Angie with dreams, but I just like giving her a big creature that eats nightmares. Just to have. That, or she's a sylph. Or both. I would gladly give her both. She's a sylph with a baku. She lets it loose to keep her friends from having nightmares each night.

Tenko Chabashira- She's a valkyrie. She would absolutely thrive. And naturally, she's super biased.

Korekiyo Shinguji- My first thought is yokai, partially because he talked about the difference between ghosts and yokai in that one scene.

Miu Iruma- She has a bunch of little elves, but in the "Cobbler and the Elves" sense, not the Lord of the Rings sense. The closest single word for what I actually mean is "gremlins", since they, like the elves in that story, are directly associated with craftsmanship. She just has some handy little guys. Like, five or six of them, just crawling around fixing things or causing mischief or playing in her hair, depending on how she's feeling. If she's in a bad mood, they're breaking stuff; if she's in a good mood, they're fixing stuff.

Gonta Gokuhara- Pixies. I want him to have a bunch of little winged humanoid creatures flying around him or chilling on/in his insect carrier.

Kokichi Ouma- I almost want to say he's the faerie who was raised in Nagito's place. So, he can't lie, but he's really good at acting like he can. Oh man, I kind of want to make a whole AU on that idea alone; Nagito and Kokichi Changeling AU. Don't tempt me. Makoto is there as a normal human they're both in love with, Kokichi from being raised "human" alongside him, Nagito from meeting him later. No, I must stop. (Alternately, Kokichi is Celeste's werecat.)

Kaito Momota- Time Lord. He doesn't get to be a time lord, but I could see the Doctor (of Doctor Who fame) picking him up for a few trips. I find it deeply funny that I didn't put him in that AU to begin with.

I don't think we talk enough about how traumatising the memory erased stuff is.

Like how hard must it have been for everyone to suddenly realise years of their lives were missing.

To just come to the chilling realisation someone up until an hour ago was your friend.

Has caused the apocalypse.

You think your a first year high school student but nope.

Turns out you've already graduated.

Do they even know how old they are?

You don't know what's changed in your life, what hasn't.

Byakuya's whole family company is gone.

Makoto won't know if Komaru is alive for a long time.

... Are they the only ones left?

Food's suddenly an issue.

They have nowhere else to go.

Makoto has to carry on like his friends didn't just try and kill him.

Everyone else is gone.

They won but... Did they?

And that's just the first game, the Remnants are on a whole other level.

They've caused genocide.

Killed family, friends.

And don't know who or if anyone's left.

Hajime basically lost himself and his own identity for who knows how many years and he's just supposed to just... Exist like nothing happened.

It's like waking up from a nightmare and realising it was all true.

And they don't know what their forgetting or even if they want to remember.

All of them are alive but... Is that good?

They all know who killed them, and have to go on like they didn't.

And their alive...

Nagito's back in a body that's still sick.

Does Nekomaru have a body?

Hell, Sonia's country doesn't exist anymore.

And if I'm remembering correctly, Chiaki's still gone...

... Fucking glad Makoto was here at the end to do damage control because holyshit.

He's already gone through all of this and now is helping them get through it.

Which is great but also means he went through it alone.

Komaru has all her memories in tact but has to constantly choose her words.

Lest she sends Makoto or anyone of the other survivors into a crisis.

And than you have what may be the worse case, V3.

Because Shuichi doesn't even know if anythings real anymore.

Is he real?

Is his name Shuichi Saihara?

How many times has he died?

Is this the real world? What even is the real world?

Am I even a detective? Is all of my personality fake? Who am I? What was made for the show and what's real?

Does it even matter?

Do I have a family? How old am I? How long is 53 seasons? Are my friends still my friends, are they the same?

Is any of this real? Am I real?

If V3 ends like Danganronpa 2 did, is Kaede alive?

Do they remember each other? Is Kaito still sick?

Was Tsumugi ever a friend?

And again, knowing exactly who killed who.

..... You know people give Junko a lot of credit for causing despair.

As she deserves.

But her boyfriend deserves just as much because... Holyshit my dude this is sick.

Causing the end of the world and lasting trauma to everyone involved.

One of these days, I gotta draw the THH cast as their sprites as lore accurate as I can. They are just too cute and goofy. Like, them all doing that cute little happiness waves (except Hifumi and Sakura cus they're too cool for that!) Like, just look at them!! Also, screw it. I'm gonna gush about them all cus I make the rules and they deserve to be appreciated!!! Their little waves are too cute and they all look like they're gonna break into the little Club Penguin dance which is just even cuter. They also all look like they wanna be lifted up and spun around too. Silly little guys -v-

Makoto looks so chill and comfy here. Cus of how simplified he is, he's giving the energy that he's just in some sweats and that's cute. He looks like he's cheering on too specifically. Like he's happily yelling "You can do it!" Not TOO loud though!

Kyoko just looks so happy here and it's precious. Since she's so stoic, it's even cuter!! And the way her little ears poke out of her hair?! Even more adorable! She looks like she'd have the most precious little giggle. She looks like she'd cause mischief too. I'd buy her doing some arson. She looks so gentle though too.

Same as Kyoko, his silly joy warms my heart. Also, my brain usually reads the whites of the eyes as the actual eyes instead of the glasses when he's small and from afar, so he just looks especially mischievous. Even without the glasses thing though, he looks like that to me! A little rascal up to no good! Either that or the glasses make Byakuya's eyes look extra sparkly making him look even more happy but also just as cheeky!

Her little wave is slightly lower on one of her arms and that's just precious. Also, she's so sad! Give this girl a hug! She looks so spooked and close to tears with that wobbly little mouth of hers. Her glases and how my brain looks at the white as the eyes accidently makes her look even sadder! Like a distressed wet cat.

Head empty vibes from Hiro here. No thoughts, only wave. I bet he doesn't even know where he is right now. ONLY WAVE.

The wave for Aoi especially gives me flipper energy. Like a little penguin trying to fly! How precious! She also looks like she's excitedly explaining stuff, minutes away from jumping up and down from how excited she is!

His head so big. Leon's hair makes his head so big and I find that charming. Pluck him from the ground like a root.

Sayaka's little cheeks make her especially cute! She's so happy to be here! Kinda like Makoto too, she gives pep-talk energy. Sayaka fits more in a "cheering up someone" energy though. It fits her with that bright and cheery energy. She also just looks happy in general! A bundle of joy!

Fancy arm flaps. Also, the juxtaposition of her fancy attire and the cute arm flaps makes it all cuter. She looks like she'd excited to say something! Just seeing her this excited though is heartwarming like how Kyoko and Byakuya are! She surprisingly doesn't look up to no good though!

So silly and goofy, like he's doing a little dance. Hifumi also looks like a crab. Like he'd shuffle away like a little crab. Maybe, just like the crab, we are all destined to evolve into Hifumi u_u

The arm flaps especially look cute on Taka. He just has that excitable energy when he's fired up. He looks just a BIT naked without his big brows though. And everyone else doesn't have brows but Taka looks bald without them! He's cute though so I will forgive him!

Mondo is like Hiro here. No thoughts. He looks more relaxed if anything though. Guy's in his own little world thinking about dogs. He looks so silly in his coat too like he could sneak around, goofily covering his face as he tries to shuffle around in the shadows.

CUTE CHEEK BLUSHES!!! CUTE CHIHIRO CHEEK BLUSHES! Precious as hell. Also, kinda how I said that I misread the glasses on Byakuya and Toko, I misread Chihiro's outfit. I cant' help but see Chihiro with the sickest shoulder pads known to the human eye!! Like a cute, slightly weird Vegeta cosplay! Chihiro could made it work though!

The cheek blushes are never old. So cute!!! And the cute ears poking out and how blissful she looks! Cheer on, girl! It's also just nice seeing her so happy! She deserves joy, damn it!

For the REAL Junko, yeah, there's not much difference than with Mukuro. Same cheek blushes. Only differences are the tie, bow on the chest, and the hair accessories. I wanted to include her though, even if she's not that special to be honest which is a bit sad. But the one who got done dirty more is Mukuro cus she has an error on hers! The bow on the chest appears when it shouldn't cus she doesn't have that on her outfit and those 3 pixels are just strays! So, yeah. POOR MUKURO T-T Also almost ran out of room for the sisters in the tags, especially Mukuro, so gosh! Mukuro was almost done dirty again!!

As for the bonus one, Toko! SHE ACTUALLY LOOKS HAPPY! YAY!!! It's thematic too cus Toko's in a much better place! She's also giving wild energy too! Like she scurries around but in a cool way! The scurrying is cute though cus she's so skrungly.

Dangancember 2024 - Danganronpa Top 24 Class Trials - Number 6: Danganronpa V3 Case 4

//Case 1 and Case 4 of Danganronpa V3 are two of the most standout trials in the entire series. So much so, that seperating them, and deciding which one was better between the two, was nearly GODDAMN IMPOSSIBLE.

//Seriously, throughout the entire time I was making this list, having to choose between which case I liked better between this case and the first case of V3 was so insanely difficult.

//But in the end, I had to give it to Case 1. For the simple reason that I always tend to revisit Case 1 of V3, where I don't do the same, at least not nearly as much, for Case 4.

//And for very little reason other than that.

//Danganronpa V3’s fourth Class Trial is a bit of an enigma for me. On the one hand, I often find myself sweeping it under the rug when discussing the series, but on the other hand, I can’t deny that it’s one of the finest trials Danganronpa has ever crafted.

//Seriously, it’s sitting at a comfortable sixth place out of 30 cases in my personal ranking, so yeah, it’s undeniably great. I’m just selective about how much I acknowledge it.

//What makes this trial so fantastic is the way all its elements come together seamlessly: the jaw-dropping twist, the high-stakes context, and the deeply compelling mystery. With most of V3's cases, I feel they're a little...weaker overall, even if they are generally the more complex cases in the franchise, mainly because of the emotions they instill within me.

//But two of the cases, with Case 4 being one of them, are an exception to this. This one mainly because it’s a case that doesn’t just tell a story; it practically reinvents the game’s rules while doing so.

//The trial takes place inside a virtual reality simulation, reminiscent of something straight out of Sword Art Online.

//And yes, just like SAO, the stakes couldn’t be higher. If you die in the game, you die for real. That chilling premise alone opens up a Pandora’s box of possibilities and interpretations, making the entire case feel more dynamic and multidimensional than your average murder mystery.

//It’s also hilariously meta, and in the good way, unlike V3-6. Not only are you solving a murder in VR, but the case leans into the absurdity of its premise while staying true to the emotional core of Danganronpa’s storytelling. The layers of reality, fiction, and simulated existence blur so well that you can’t help but admire how cleverly it all fits together.

//So yeah, even if I don’t gush about this trial as much as some others, I’ll still tip my hat to it. It’s a wild ride that fully earns its place in the Danganronpa hall of fame.

//This chapter is… fine, but what really makes it stand out is how it aligns with a recurring theme in the main Danganronpa trilogy. In each game, the fourth chapter tends to focus on a character who, up until that point, seems to be thriving a little too comfortably in the chaos of the killing game. Whether they appear to be enjoying the despair or simply manipulating the situation to their advantage, Chapter 4 is where the narrative decides it’s time to shake things up and force some character growth, or, in some cases, a complete character overhaul:

In 1-4, Byakuya gets his reality check during the trial itself. After stubbornly clinging to his cold, cutthroat logic all game, he suffers a humiliating defeat in reasoning during the Chapter 4 trial, making him reconsider whether his worldview is truly as airtight as he believed. By the time the trial ends, he begins taking steps toward becoming a more dependable ally and declares that he won’t engage in any more killing.

In 2-4, Nagito's character arc takes a sharp left turn in the Case 4 investigation. Up until that point, Nagito had this weird self-deprecating reverence for the other Ultimates, treating himself like disposable trash unworthy of standing among them. But suddenly, after finding out the truth behind their identities, it’s like a switch flips. During the investigation, he becomes disturbingly self-assured, cruel, and downright dominant, flipping his dynamic with the group entirely. Now, instead of putting others on a pedestal, he’s treating them all like the garbage he once considered himself to be; and this segways into Chapter 5.

This idea literally goes double for A-4. Rei, typically dismissive and unhelpful, is shaken to the core when faced with Satsuki’s sacrifice. Haru, a victim, gave his life to save Satsuki by creating a Locked Room Mystery for her escape; a level of selflessness Rei has never witnessed, and when Satsuki confirms Haru’s sacrifice was real, Rei is stunned, unable to process such altruism. Meanwhile, Tsurugi, steadfast in punishing victims as chaos-causers, is thrown off balance by Satsuki’s unprompted confession. The idea of a victim helping their killer challenges his beliefs so profoundly that he passes out, forcing him to question his entire worldview.

Syobai literally becomes the player character in A2-4 for a part of the trial, and singlehandedly is forced into a position of leadership. It's a key moment for him and the mark of the game where he starts to take more initiative as a character, and go on his own quest to dick over Mikado and end the Killing Game.

//And then, in V3, there’s Kokichi Ouma, who, comparatively, takes the "fourth chapter personality shift" baton and runs to the end of the Earth with it.

//(Side note, I can't believe I'm actually talking about it here, but I have seen SO many people ask me why I spell it "Ouma" and not "Oma" like the dub does, especially since I don't call Kyoko "Kyouko" or Kirumi Tojo as "Toujou" when that's what it is in Japanese. It's because "Oma" means Horse in Japanese, and I don't want to call him "Kokichi Horse." That's weird. Also, I just prefer this spelling, it's as simple as that.)

//Kokichi, already a wildcard and a mischievous trickster, steps fully into his role as a scheming, manipulative VILLAIN, leaning hard into his calculating and almost theatrical nature. It’s a fascinating evolution, especially since his antics fill the tension void left by the previous case.

//Let’s be real, Case 3 had its moments, but Korekiyo Shinguji being both the killer and victim of his own twisted scheme felt more...uncomfortable, than genuinely intimidating.

//Kokichi, on the other hand, brings back that thick, suffocating air of distrust, which elevates the stakes nicely. All in all, the fourth chapter’s character transformations may follow a predictable formula, but they always deliver something fresh and memorable.

//But we'll come back to Kokichi later. Let's get talking about the trial itself, and why it's so unique.

//Danganronpa trials always tend to have a running theme with them throughout each game, and some of these work out better than others tend to. For example, all the first cases, a character who is seemingly important to the plot is suddenly taken away after they are killed. Case 2 always reveals a new, more ominous, secretive side to a character, who up until that point, had been rather unnasuming. And while not a lot of people like this fact, up to 3 people always die in Chapter 3 of each game.

//In Chapter 4, the running theme is that all the murders take place in a very liminal environment; different from anywhere else you've seen in the game, and with its own set of rules that differ from every other trial. In the other games, it's the Locked Room, the Funhouse, the Ballroom, and the Tower of Babel.

//But this setting is probably the most bizzare of them all, and by God, do they do some GOOD THINGS with it!

//The entire murder takes place inside a virtual reality simulation. A full-on digital world that, if I’m not mistaken, was originally created by Monokuma but later modified by none other than Miu Iruma, the Ultimate Inventor.

//VERY CLEARLY a nod to Danganronpa 2, and that alone is great.

//Miu takes it upon herself to tweak the simulation, removing anything dangerous or sharp enough to become a potential murder weapon. Ironically, despite her best efforts, it’s Miu who ends up as the victim of this virtual whodunit.

//Now, here’s where things get juicy: this wasn’t your typical crime in the series. This was a murder gone horribly wrong.

//And what’s fascinating is that while this isn’t the first time something like this has happened in the series, it’s actually only the second, or if you’re really nitpicky, the fourth instance of a murder scheme backfiring. Let’s take a quick trip down memory lane, shall we?

//In Danganronpa 1 Sayaka cooks up a plan to kill Leon but ends up being the one who got skewered instead. Then in Goodbye Despair, Killing Harmony, and Another, the first cases also feature a twist where the killer’s original plan goes sideways, albeit in a slightly different flavor, with the killer targeting the wrong victim.

//But this case is the only other murder scheme, besides Sayaka's in Game 1, planned by the victim themselves.

//...Unless you count Haru in Another, which we've already been over, but you could also make the argument that Haru's plan was for him to be killed, while with Sayaka and Miu, their plans backfired.

//Miu, in all her chaotic, trash-talking glory, was planning to take out Kokichi. Being the brains behind the virtual world, she took full advantage of her role, laying out the rules of the simulation for everyone while sneakily fudging a few of the details to give herself the upper hand.

//Her goal? To execute the perfect crime, one that would be impossible to pin on her.

//Even though, upon reflection, the fact that she's the only one who COULD make the rules makes it pretty obvious that she's the one responsible. Had that been the case, I think that would have been too easy.

//Unfortunately for Miu, but fortunately for us, Kokichi is like a walking ad for 4D chess. He catches on to her plan faster than she can deliver one of her raunchy one-liners, and instead of walking into her trap, Kokichi flips the script, countering her scheme with a plan of his own.

//What ensues is a mind-bending trial where the layers of lies and manipulation make even seasoned players question what’s real and what’s virtual.

//This case stands out not just for its premise but for its audacious execution. A murder happening in a VR simulation is already enough to make it memorable, but the added twist of the victim being the would-be killer takes it to a whole new level of brilliance.

//And let’s not forget Miu herself: even in her final moments, she manages to be equal parts infuriating and hilarious, making her one of the most unforgettable characters in the series.

//I could do a whole character analysis on Miu, and I feel like I might want to one of these days, but today is not that day, because despite her integral role in this case, of the characters that are important to it, she is the least so.

//But with Miu dead, this leads into what is quite possibly the FUNNEST investigation and trial in the series.

//The real charm isn’t necessarily in the investigation process itself. It’s in the clues you uncover and the sheer thrill of piecing together how the crime could have possibly gone down.

//This isn’t your standard case where you’re dusting for fingerprints or deciphering alibis. No, this case takes place in a virtual, video-game-like world, and that alone makes it incredibly special.

//What really sets it apart is that solving the crime requires you to think in terms of VIDEO GAME LOGIC. And I don’t mean just understanding how games work on a design level, like balancing difficulty or crafting levels.

//We’re talking the nitty-gritty quirks of actual gameplay mechanics, stuff like looping worlds, invisible walls, glitches, and even loading screens. These elements aren’t just amusing easter eggs; they’re critical to figuring out how the murder was executed. It’s like being handed a mystery where the answers are buried not in reality, but in the code itself.

//For anyone who’s spent hours yelling at their screen over a bugged-out NPC or a weird collision glitch (Fuck you, Todd Howard), this investigation feels like a hilarious, and extremely meta, love letter to the quirks of gaming.

//This case’s brilliance lies in how it merges classic mystery-solving with the quirks of gaming, creating a truly unique experience. It’s the kind of investigation that makes you feel like both a detective and a speedrunner trying to glitch your way into an inaccessible area for clues.

//And let’s be honest, when you’re unraveling a crime that hinges on the kind of stuff we normally blame on bad game developers, it’s impossible not to have a little fun with it.

//But of course, the mystery and the setting of this crime don't carry the whole thing alone. The actual conflict itself is what makes this trial such an emotional rollercoaster, and hands down, there's one key element of this trial that shines out more than any other:

//Kokichi.

//We've already been over V3-5, and the role that Kokichi plays in that chapter, where his scheming all culminates into his final plan. But the biggest issue with that was how little closure it gave Kokichi, and how his plan felt like it was all part of Tsumugi's scheme anyway.

//But the SETUP for his character arc's conclusion, that we see in this trial, is BRILLIANT.

//I already kind of talked about this at the start, but let me reiterate my points in more detail here.

//Up until now, Kokichi has been the class’s resident chaos gremlin. Cocky, sarcastic, endlessly witty, and annoyingly good at making people want to strangle him.

//Whether he’s tossing out savage one-liners or cracking jokes at everyone else’s expense, Kokichi has spent most of the game toeing the line between a playful pest and a genuinely brilliant schemer. And no matter how much he got under your skin, you couldn’t deny that he was sharp as a tack, sometimes spotting clues even Shuichi, the Ultimate Detective, manages to miss.

//But in this trial? Kokichi doesn’t just steal the show. He sets the stage on fire, and crowns himself the ultimate supervillain.

//This is Kokichi at his absolute peak. Gone is the silly prankster who lived to push everyone’s buttons. In his place is a calculated mastermind who orchestrates Miu’s death in a way so devious and brilliant that it leaves you wondering just how deep his schemes go.

//And here’s the kicker: he didn’t even commit the murder himself. He set everything up like a diabolical puppetmaster, then let the crime unfold while keeping his hands technically clean. That fact alone? It’s the ace up his sleeve, and he’s not shy about rubbing it in your face for the entirety of the trial.

//Kokichi’s behavior in this case is a stage show of psychological warfare. At one point, just to prove how far ahead of everyone else he is, he flat-out CONFESSES to the crime and lays out every single detail.

//And no, it’s not because he’s trying to save anyone or come clean. Kokichi’s confession is less about honesty and more about spiting you. He doesn’t want you to have the satisfaction of piecing everything together. Instead, he hands you the answers on a silver platter, complete with that smug grin of his, just to prove that he’s always one step ahead.

//The best part is that even when Kokichi is acting like a full-blown villain, he’s still absolutely hilarious. Whether he’s taunting the group with his over-the-top theatrics or dropping perfectly timed quips, his antics add a layer of dark humor that keeps the trial both tense and ridiculously entertaining. It’s like watching a magician perform a trick while roasting the audience the entire time.

//But what makes his actions, and this case as a whole, even more heartbreaking and mind-boggling is the reveal of the real killer.

//Shockingly, the one who ACTUALLY murdered Miu...is GONTA!

//Gonta Gokuhara. The Ultimate Entomologist. The most wholesome, lovable, pure-hearted character in Danganronpa V3, heck, maybe even the entire Danganronpa franchise. The gentle giant who LEGITIMATELY wouldn’t hurt a fly (Though would probably hurt someone else for hurting the fly.) The guy who refers to himself in the third person and wants nothing more than to protect everyone, make friends, and be a true gentleman.

//That Gonta.

//Even though the big guys always die in the fourth chapter, unless you're Kakeru, To say Gonta being the culprit is shocking would be an understatement. While Gonta is undeniably kind and reliable, it’s no secret that he’s not exactly a mastermind. He’s easily manipulated, struggles to keep up in trials, and doesn’t have a mean bone in his body.

//So when it’s revealed that he killed Miu, the first reaction from everyone is sheer disbelief. How could Gonta, of all people, commit murder? And more importantly, why would he?

//What makes this moment so impactful is the reaction of the group. Once Kokichi drops the bombshell that Gonta is the killer, everyone scrambles to find excuses to prove him wrong. No one, not even Gonta himself, can believe it. Gonta, in his sweet and earnest way, tries to deny it, clinging to the idea that he could never willingly hurt someone. But the cold, hard evidence keeps piling up, and by the end, there’s no escaping the truth.

//The only two people in the room who seem willing to entertain the possibility are Shuichi and Keebo. Shuichi, being the Ultimate Detective, reluctantly follows the evidence where it leads, no matter how painful the conclusion may be. Keebo, ever the logical one, processes the facts without the emotional bias the others cling to. But for everyone else, especially Kaito, and even Maki, the mere idea of Gonta being the culprit is too much to bear.

//And that’s where Kokichi pulls off another one of his devious moves. By exposing the truth and forcing Shuichi to press forward, he drives a wedge between Shuichi and Kaito, effectively turning Kaito against him. Kaito, the ever-loyal and stubborn optimist, refuses to believe that Gonta could be capable of such a thing. His faith in Gonta, and his growing detest of Kokichi, creates a painful rift in what was once a strong friendship.

//What’s even more brilliant about this setup is another reason why the investigation is so good, in how it creates the perfect misdirection. Gonta is a notoriously sweet and loveable guy whose idea of "video game logic" probably involves pressing random buttons until something works. Early in the investigation, you’re almost sure he couldn’t have done it because, let’s face it, even if you walked him step-by-step through how world loops or loading zones work, his brain would still be stuck in "kind gentleman" mode.

It’s a devious plan worthy of her sharp mind, but in a cruel twist of irony, Miu ends up dead instead.

//While it might sound absurd...and it is...it makes perfect sense within the context of the virtual world. Just exhibit A of why this case uses the unrealistic logic of the game world so damn well.

//In the VR simulation, objects are unbreakable, meaning that even something as flimsy as toilet paper becomes as strong as a rope. While this detail initially seems like a quirky bit of world-building, it turns out to be the key to unraveling the mystery.

The moment it’s revealed that Miu was killed with toilet paper, the case takes on an entirely new level of not just hilarity, but complexity. It’s a reminder of how cleverly the trial uses the unique mechanics of the virtual world to craft a mystery that could only exist in this game.

//But the ingenuity of the murder weapon is just the beginning. As the trial unfolds, the focus shifts from solving how the crime was committed to figuring out who the culprit is, and this is where things get truly heart-wrenching. The group is torn between their trust in Gonta’s inherently good nature and the mounting evidence against him. Even Gonta himself struggles to reconcile the truth, repeatedly insisting he would never do it.

It’s a unique conflict that’s rarely explored in murder mysteries and one that V3 handles with surprising nuance.

//I also want to draw attention to the voice acting, specifically with the English Dub (since that's the version I played), which takes this trial to an entirely new level of emotional devastation.

//Kaiji Tang’s performance as Gonta is nothing short of phenomenal, capturing the character’s confusion, sorrow, and desperation with heartbreaking authenticity.

//But more than him, remember how I said that there were four voice performances in the main Danganronpa series that I thought were absolutely phenomenal for the breakdowns in the series? Marieve Herington as Celeste was the first one, Kira Buckland as Kirumi is the second, and the third is Derek Stephen Prince as Kokichi.

//He's insanely good throughout the whole game, but he shines especially here, delivering lines with a blend of smugness and chilling calculation that makes him simultaneously infuriating and fascinating.

//Kyle Hebert’s portrayal of Kaito adds layers of frustration and vulnerability, while Dorothy Fahn brings subtle depth to Tsumugi (shockingly). The voice work is so impactful that it enhances every twist and turn of the trial, making the emotional moments hit even harder.

//In the end, this trial isn’t just a showcase of clever writing and innovative mechanics. It’s an emotional rollercoaster that pushes the characters and the player to their limits.

//I don't want to end this on a negative note or anything, but there is another reason why I ultimately had to put this trial below V3-1. It's far from a major problem that completely ruins my opinion of the trial, obviously, but dear God did it test my fucking patience.

//This trial and this Chapter are where the MONOKUBS are at their MOST INSUFFERABLE!

//Crazy, because at this point in the game, there's only two of them left!

//I largely boil this down to Monodam dropping out of the story prior to this chapter, but Monophanie and Monotaro single-handedly come close to RUINING this Chapter because of how goddamn fucking INCORRAGABLE they are. Legitimately, the only thing that they did that I thought was entertaining was Monotaro proclaiming Miu as his mother, but that's largely because of Miu and not him.

//To make a long story short, I really feel SO GLAD for the people who actually liked the incest stuff that happened in Case 3, because HERE! YOU HAVE MORE OF IT!

//In this chapter, Monotaro suffers memory loss, causing him to forget who Monophanie and Monokuma are. Monophanie, in an attempt to help him remember, beats him with a frying pan. This leads to a bizarre and disturbing romantic relationship between the two, despite being family.

//The next day, Monotaro turns abusive toward Monophanie, and though he later apologizes, it paints a toxic and uncomfortable dynamic. Monophanie becomes jealous of the students as Monotaro bonds with them and starts to act like a father figure when they believe she’s pregnant. However, this is all part of a gruesome execution, where a giant insect bursts from Monophanie’s stomach and kills both Monokubs.

//This entire plotline trivializes what are actually some SERIOUS ISSUES in a disturbing, exploitative way, and turns it into an uncomfortable "spectacle." It's hands down the ABSOLUTE WORST THING that happens in ALL of V3, and possibly the entire main trilogy, especially because it takes place in what is otherwise one of the BEST CHAPTERS in the series!

//But Oh! OOOH! OOOOOOOOOOOOH IT DOESN'T STOP THERE! IIIIIT DOOOOEEESSN'T STOOOOP THEEEERE!

//Ahem...

//Sorry...In case it wasn't obvious, this REALLY upsets me. But I'll try and stay professional.

//Largely the reason I've never gone over them before this point is because the only other time in the game where the Kubs actively play a part in the trial is in Case 2, when Monosuke, after acting all high and mighty towards his siblings, accidentally gives away a major clue in the trial. But that was actually a pretty entertaining part.

//Here, Gonta's execution, and his final moments, are completely RUINED by the Monokubs. And any emotional tension and misery that you're feeling for him in his final moments are completely taken away!

//While the execution itself is by no means poorly done, and it does feature one of my favorite music tracks from the series, it definitely doesn't give Gonta the fitting send-off he deserved.

//Sure, it’s undeniably tragic, with Gonta being attacked by robotic wasps, stabbed in the chest, and ultimately set on fire. Quite a violent and gruesome way to meet his end; but here’s the issue: The execution doesn’t focus on Gonta’s death as much as it should.

//Instead, a significant portion of the sequence is dedicated to Monophanie and Monotaro’s bizarre, unsettling bug-related antics, which just feels…off.

//While the gruesome spectacle is certainly chaotic and violent, the sequence spends a substantial amount of time on the absurd antics of Monophanie and Monotaro, especially their bizarre "bug baby" plotline.

//Now, the Monokubs meeting their end in these executions isn’t new. This is, after all, the last time we see any of them perish. But this one feels like the worst offender. When Monokid and Monosuke died during Kaede and Kirumi’s executions, I wasn’t bothered too much because their deaths were brief and didn’t take the spotlight away from the main event. Monodam’s death, on the other hand, was genuinely surprising, and despite some focus on him, the context made it feel fitting.

//But here? We’ve crossed a FUCKING line. The execution becomes less about Gonta's tragic demise and more about this uncomfortable and frankly weird bug child subplot. Honestly, by this point in the series, I’m pretty done with the odd, incestuous undertones, and I certainly didn’t need to be subjected to a whole execution where that’s the central theme, while Gonta himself feels like an afterthought.

//Le sigh...

//Aside from everything else, I feel it’s worth repeating that this case is crafted in a pretty impressive way. The sheer creativity and intricacy behind it can't be ignored. And while the execution itself leaves something to be desired (and by "something," I mean "a whole lot"), I don't think that should take away from how well the rest of the case is put together.

//I mean, the story, the twists, the atmosphere...it all comes together in a way that's hard to ignore. Even if the final outcome feels like a botched cake at the bakery...all gooey on the inside and looking suspiciously like a science experiment gone wrong...the overall design of the trial is still pretty solid.

//It’s like watching a magician pull off an incredible trick, only for the rabbit to hop away halfway through. You can’t really blame the trick just because the rabbit decided to bail.

//So while I can’t overlook how poorly the final bits were handled, the rest of the case is still good enough to hold up.

Shunsui: He freaking loves it. He loves going out into public with you because nobody will ever want to mess with either of you. He feels like you protect him and he cherishes that. Together the two of you make a good team.

Byakuya: hmmmmmm, I think Byakuya wouldn't mind it. There are times when I think it might annoy him, but he's open about his feelings and emotions. He's a stable person and he's confident in who he is so it doesn't bother him that you're the more dominant one in your relationship.

Kenpachi: He likes that your dominant because then you won't back down from him or a fight. He loves that you're so strong and he admires you when you're in battle. You two can get into arguments though when you're both trying to be dominant, you'll probably just spar it out lol.

Toshiro: I could see both of you working together great. If you're as serious as Toshiro, then your relationship is the best thing ever. If you're not as serious but still dominating, Toshiro sometimes sees it as a competition. You have to explain to him that you're not competing against him or anything, it's just your personality. A smooth, sailing relationship though.

Shinji: He likes when you're dominant, but you two butt heads a lot since Shinji is so damn cocky. Sometimes, he wants to be the one in charge and making decisions, but you always do. There is no competing when it comes down to you and Shinji. You'll always win and he'll whine and complain about it.

Mayuri: Doesn't mind it, but don't underestimate him either. He likes it when you put him in his place when he's acting out or just being straight up rude. He gets annoyed when you're dominant and putting him in his place sometimes. He'll roll his eyes and mumble a curse underneath his breath, but he gets over it quickly.

Sajin: He can put up with anything and he admires you so much for even loving him as he is. Loves it when you stand up for him and scare off any soul reapers trying to make fun of him. He's honestly so proud of you for being yourself.

Kensei: Don't test this man though or he'll put you in your place. He's chill and cool about it, but he's also pretty dominant and intimating himself. I think together, the two of you are a very powerful couple that nobody wants to mess with.

Rojuro: He's so sweet and kind that he doesn't mind having someone who's more dominant in the relationship. Arguments never happen because Rojuro always communicates on how he feels. He loves how strong you are and always praises you for it.

Toshiro is the type to not really show any affection to you, acting as if he was annoyed with you while attempting to cover up an obvious blush that dusted his face.

The longer the crush has lasted, the harder he will fall, and will slowly start to show his affection, only if the crush doesn’t disappear.

And for you, it never disappeared.

Toshiro likes to wake up early, to get a good start on his paperwork for the day, but he struggles sometimes when your warm body is draped around him, protecting him from the chilled room.

When he finally gets you off of him, he is already late but he couldn’t really care. Sitting in his bed kissing you softly over and over agin, he didn’t want to leave. He couldn’t leave.

He’d lazily get up, walking into the bathroom to shower while you rolled out of bed to start breakfast.

By the time he was finished, breakfast was ready and he sat next to you, kissing your lips before beginning to eat before heading to work.

Toshiro loved to give you little gifts. Small ice sculptures, rocks, little trinkets, ect. He loves it.

Toshiro loves to do paperwork with you. Just sitting in silence and enjoying the other’s presence is enough for him.
