Change My Mind [4]
Pairing: BTS x reader
SUMMARY: As a make-up artist, you were expected to glamorize your clients with brushes and products that cost a week-worth of food, not to befriend them outside of work, let alone have them save you from dates yet here you are five years later as one of their closest confidants.
Being a stylist of the world's biggest boyband is no easy feat, someone is doing flips, someone can't stay still and one's asleep but its fine, you can work around their chaos but then one day, you find out they're all your soulmates, a whole different can of chaos you don't think you can handle.

nothing much to say this time but this is not beta read, my friend who was supposed to read it is unfortunately unavailable, idk if the argument makes sense in the end cause I personally run from confrontations so idk how to write good arguments so yeah.
ANYWAYS, Happy reading!!

___________
In all of your years working for Bangtan, as one of their staff and the youngest stylist, you've been included in every life events and celebrations there is. Birthdays, first wins, comebacks, everything there is even something as important as family dinners. You've never skipped or forgot a single member's birthday, period.
But as Guwon stands before you, a plane ticket to Jeju in hand with the departure scheduled tomorrow and returning just a day short before the tour, you find yourself at a crossroad. It’s Jungkook's birthday tomorrow and Jimin has planned a small party tonight at their dorms before the formal celebration at the company the next day.
While you've been trying to rectify the awkward air between you and the maknae since his confession by starting conversations, the maknae only replied to you with silence before promptly vanishing in two seconds flat.
But despite the strain in your relationship, you could never think of not attending his birthday. You'd never thought to be petty enough to return his energy. His present was already wrapped in a pretty bow under your bed for a week now for Christ's sake!
“I-I can't… It's one of their birthday’s tomorrow.”
“Oh.” His smile falls. “Can't you just give your gift today? Surely they can party for one night without you.”
It was a genuine question, logical and true but for some reason, his tone raised concerns within you. You swear to the highest heavens you could hear a bit of irritation hidden beneath dejection.
You winced. “I can't, I'm really sorry… I-I can pay you back what you've spent for the trip. I'm really sorry, I just never missed any of their birthdays. I swear I'll make it up to you next time!”
Guwon's shine dulled the further you went on and your heart twinged with guilt. In another universe where some humans gained animalistic features, he'd have dog ears pressed to his skull, staring at you with wide and glistening eyes.
You waved off the image immediately, disturbed.
“It's also my fault for not asking for your schedule. The tour is next week and then you'd be away from me for months so I kind of… panicked. I'm sorry.”
He should've known better than not to do research on your bosses , a voice at the back of your head scoffed and you waved the thought away as you put a hand over his.
“I should've notified you as well. Tell me if those are refundable or not, I'll pay you back.”
He waves you off. “Cute but I've been raised well to know not to ask a lady to pay for my mistake, so don't worry that pretty head of yours about not being able to go.”
The date continued and thankfully, no dead air remained and conversation eased out of the both of you. Guwon sorted out his reservations early on, he'd stopped eating every once in a while to pick up his phone to either receive a call or respond to an email.
With how often he answered the chimes of his phone and how long it took for him to finally put it down, you figured he must've prepared a lot for the week and it made you feel more guilty every time he did it.
Today, he brought you both to an indoor park he rented for an hour for a picnic. It was on the outskirts of Seoul and he also cooked most of the food placed between you both, his mother however, was responsible for the side dishes.
Speaking of mothers, yours called earlier to congratulate you on whatever it was she was adamant on keeping secret but you already knew what it was and you were glad Jungkook’s mother gave birth on such a perfect day almost 21 years ago.
Guwon was planning to propose to you during the trip.
It left a bitter taste in your tongue. Sure you had expected to be married to him at some point but you barely knew the man outside of his colorful stories, and knew none of his actual behavior in his home. You haven't even visited his house yet for a vibe check so why is he rushing too fast?
Despite the guilt in your heart, relief is more palpable knowing you'd have more time to figure out if you truly want Guwon in your life.
Your phone vibrated in your pocket and you took a glance at it.
[17:29] Jinnie: I'll pick you up at your apartment by 6. [17:29] Jinnie: please be prepared😊
Seeing the t̶h̶r̶e̶a̶t̶e̶n̶i̶n̶g̶ friendly smile attached at the end of his message, you're suddenly reminded of the present. You hadn't told any of them of your date today, something that had drawn out longer than you thought it would. You frowned, fingers drumming on the side of your phone as you pondered on what to reply.
You had promised to help with the food yet here you are, out of town and on a picnic date inside a garden observatory.
“Who is it?” Guwon asks, seeing the frown on your face. Your mind immediately picks up the odd tone he has.
“Their oldest, Jin. We're supposed to cook together before the rest comes home.”
He furrowed his eyebrows. “I thought the birthday was tomorrow?”
“Oh, we're planning a small party before it, just his closest friends.”
Guwon nodded, eyes distant and thoughtful as he took a bite of his sandwich before continuing. “What time are you expected?”
“Their eldest said he'll pick me up at six.”
He looked at his watch and frowned deeper. “It's already 5:30. Maybe I can drive you to their dorm instead?”
You immediately shook your head. Remembering the promise you had with Jin and Jungkook. The maknae had recently begun to look at your direction again yesterday after Hoseok had talked to him, inviting Guwon would ruin the smallest progress you’ve had.
Not to mention, you can't reveal their dorm location even if he is to be your husband. Company rules and you've signed an NDA.
“Company rules, can't reveal their location.”
“If we're going to be a couple soon, I'm going to need to know more about these guys you're hanging around. I don't trust them.” He says as he turns to the picnic basket to take another sandwich out, unable to see the twitch in your eye.
“Well, you have to learn how to, they’re my bosses and my best friends.”
“I’m having a hard time believing that. I mean,” He scoffed. “Did you notice how they look at me whenever I’m around? That rapper—Yun–Yoonmi stared at me like I’m an insect he stepped on.”
Anger boils deep within your soul and you’re sure it's visibly contorting your face at this point but the man didn’t notice it and continued chewing on his food.
“Besides, their location is pretty well known already, no? Just a couple searches away, why be so secretive about it?”
You refrain yourself from frowning and it takes all of the energy within you to not react as wildly as you would’ve. It was amazing how the illusion of something good could shatter with only a few words and you set down the sandwich in your hand.
There's something terribly humbling upon realization that the man you're talking to is indeed, a man.
Noticing the shift in the air, he set down his cup of coffee with a slight raise to his brows.
“Why are you looking at me like that? It's true though, I just think it's pointless to try to hide it when some people already know, so what's the use of trying to hide their dorm?”
Where's Jimin and Taehyung at times like this?
You dreaded the conversation you're about to bring up to your mother once she calls, and could hear her scolding you for having such high standards. Guwon being indifferent to the possibility of being stalked, and your boys’ privacy being breached immediately raise red glaring flags over his head.
A lawyer himself who shrugged at the threat of crimes, the joke just writes itself.
“Don't look at me like that, I'm just… trying to understand why you didn't want me to interact with them after our second date. It makes a man overthink, know?”
Whatever thread you were holding onto, a sliver of hope that you might've misheard or misunderstood him, decayed within you and you picked up your phone to stuff into your bag.
You had hoped, wished, that after your deep talk on the night Seokjin had scolded your ass to the nines he'd understand your dynamic better with the boys or at least try. You could already hear Yoongi's drawl out ‘I told you so’ as you packed up, even imagine him bringing up Namjoon’s statistical analysis and how I should've listened to it.
“If you're implying what I think you are implying then I don't think we should meet each other anymore.”
Tossing the food back into the basket carelessly, you slung your bag over your shoulder and stand, only for his hand to shoot out to grab your wrist in an iron grip.
“Wait, I-I'm sorry! I just got… jealous, that's all.”
Even with the apologetic look displayed clearly on his face and the fear swimming with them, nothing could bring back to life the trust you had on the man and you pushed his hand away.
“I can't stay with someone who can't understand why those boys are important to me, sorry Guwon but we're over. Don't you ever contact me again.”
“You can't possibly be breaking up with me because I said what I felt? Over them? Really?!”
You don't even recognize the man sitting opposite you.
He knew, he saw how close you are with them and even sat through the stories you told him during your dates. Guwon knew you cherished every single boy in the group yet he disregarded it all because of jealousy? If that isn't a warning, then you might be blind.
“It's like I never even knew you at all.”
He scoffed. “Same with you. Can't believe I actually believed your words telling me you were friends but I saw how those boys treated you!”
Sure your relationship with your bosses is unusual but it was built from hardship and loneliness from being taken away from home and surrendering their time for a glimpse of fame in a field where they're at a huge disadvantage. It was special in ways not many could fathom because in their head, what reason would there be for a man to befriend a girl other than having the intention to fuck them?
It was the mindset of the old and “ wise” and it had infuriated you to the nines.
For him to reveal himself as one of those old cogs when he expressed himself as a gentleman and be convinced by his act of kindness, even the word disappointing could express how greatly upset you are.
“Bet you've slept with all of them at least once, hell, I don't even know why your mother bothered when you're already busy whoring yourself for seven men.”
Anger flooded your veins, it was hot and rampaging under your skin. Before your mind could even register your actions, your hand had already moved, making contact with his cheek in one swift motion. The slap echoed like a clap of thunder in the silence of the observatory.
Even after seeing the angry red mark beginning to mar his skin, your anger remained.
“Goodbye Guwon, I hope we never see each other again.”
Walking away was easier said than done.
You got picked up by Guwon earlier and since you've run far enough from the indoor garden, away from your supposed ticket back home, you're now waiting for an uber at a small library sequestered between towering and loudly designed buildings. You had half a mind to ask your friends that lived nearby for a ride but decided against it.
They might be busy with their own family.
Unlike you.
As you sit there waiting for your ride to come, your mind takes you to your mother and her genuine glee at the thought of you getting married. Ever since your second date, she had been sending you photographs of weddings for inspirations, links to event places and tailors, and flower shops where you could have your bouquet arranged. She was beyond ecstatic, if she heard what had happened, she would be devastated.
A loud, exasperated sigh left your lips, the volume catching the attention of the bookkeeper who was quick to shush you.
As you waited longer with only the deafening silence of the library to accompany you, doubt began to form at the back of your head.
Was breaking up with Guwon really the right choice?
An angry, louder voice screamed at you for doubling down on your decision. You knew your boys longer than you knew him, if the trip had gone through, Guwon would've proposed to you despite the short time you've known each other. Something you didn't want. Not to mention, he would've gone through the idea while contemplating on your loyalty.
So yes, it was the right decision!
But you were to be married .
Your mother was so happy to have finally matched you with a guy you attended three dates with. The thought made your heart clench, she was excited to see you on the altar and has most likely spread it around your town with pride. She was about to have three married children.
Gods, you don't want to imagine the conversation later on, she'd be distraught.
Your phone buzzed and you dreaded looking at the screen to see your mother's name. Luckily, it was Jin instead.
[18:01] Jinnie: where are you? [18:01] Jinnie: knocked on your door but the neighbor said you were out. [18:02] Jinnie: you're late😒 [18:02] Jinnie: I'm going to have them deduct your pay this month for making me wait [18:03] You: I'm sorry your highness for disappointing you, please forgive this servant of yours🤧 [18:03] You: was on a date [18:03] You: not that it matters anymore, I broke up with Guwon [18:04] You: does it even count? I mean, we weren't official, he didn't ask me to be his girlfriend yet.
You paused, face souring as you realized what you've just typed.
Guwon hadn't asked for your hand officially even after three dates, he had the chance on your second date during the stroll but he didn't. Despite this, he went and asked your parents for their blessings when he hadn't even asked you first.
[18:04] You: wow I just remembered that [18:04] You: then he had the audacity to propose to me!
There's a pause in between his usually instant replies and you had an inkling he's already spreading the gossip around the group somehow.
[18:08] Jinnie: wow there's a LOT to unpack there [18:08] Jinnie: but worry not [18:08] Jinnie: I'll have Jimin get us the strongest drink there is for later [18:09] Jinnie: we'll drink that sorrow away and you're going to tell me what the hell you meant by proposing while not being official [18:10] You: I don't think I should tell you that… [18:10] You: considering… ya know [18:11] You: also don't you guys have an early schedule tomorrow?🤨 [18:12] Jinnie: bold of u to assume I don't want hear how massive of a failure he is [18:12] Jinnie: nothing better than hearing your enemy’s downfall😌 [18:13] Jinnie: also what do you mean ‘you guys’??? [18:13] Jinnie: you're literally our make-up artist!
You scoffed at the message but before you could type up a reply, the notification from your uber app popped out to inform you about your driver now waiting outside the library and you walked out.
[18:23] You: and just because I'm your make-up artist, doesn't mean I should let you all get away with this [18:23] You: and I won't even drink much :pp [18:24] Jinnie : if I ever see you stumbling around the house, you owe me 100000 [18:25] You: WOW [18:25] You: AREN'T YOU RICH ALREADY???? [18:25] Jinnie: money is money😌 [18:26] Jinnie: just get ur ass over here already before I add more zeros to the bet
The smell of Jin’s cooking, both spicy and something savory, welcomed you first before the sound of sizzles did. At the sound of the door closing, Jin appears round the corner with an apron hung from his neck and a tong stained with red bean paste in the other.
Despite the disappointed look he's going for, reminiscent of a mother who caught her daughter coming home past curfew, the relief you feel upon seeing his handsome face after earlier was palpable and the knots in your stomach loosened.
“I should have your pay deducted for showing up late.”
You winced. “Sorry boss, can I appeal for a heartbreak discount on that?”
“Only if you give me a hug and cry on my shoulder.”
He opened his arms wide, plush lips widening into a smile when you approached to wrap your arms around his torso. The fabric of his sweatshirt was soft and the scent of new laundry overtook his usual scent of freshly baked cakes and gentle vanilla perfume, it almost made you boneless in his hold. Moreso when he started stroking your head while the other ran up and down your back with his palm, fingers still wrapped around the tongs.
He didn't pull away despite the awkward position with him bending down and practically melting against your smaller form. In your years of being friends, you could never recall Seokjin being the first to pull away from a hug and once more, you're grateful for that.
“You wanna talk about it?”
“I’ll do it while cooking, we might burn whatever you're cooking if I told you all about it here.”
He shook his head, his rubbing motions on your back turning into gentle pats. “We can just order it online if it does, I even bet that they'll still eat it even if it was. Hoba was relentless today.”
His nails raked through your scalp and you resisted the urge to shiver.
“He was being an ass towards you guys. Then when I defended you all, he accused me of sleeping around.”
His first instinct was to curse the man down to his ancestors who bred with each other until he was born, but stopped himself when he realized what he's about to say and cleared his throat.
If his arms coiled tighter around you, you only leaned into him further.
“Normally I would say "I told you so" but I know Yoongi has it covered later. So I'll just say—"
"Don't you dare. Jin don’t you dare finish that sentence."
"I knew it."
He let out a cry when your hand slapped his arm but it quickly dissolved into a fit of squeaky laughter and he pushed your head back under his chin before you could even continue hitting him. Hand continuing their petting as you let out an annoyed groan.
“My mom was so excited! God. I hate that bastard for disappointing me and her. She was sending me links to wedding planners and dressmakers because apparently he was supposed to take me to Jeju tomorrow and propose.”
He stills in your arms, the hand in your hair stopping its motion as his breath hitched in his chest. It took him a moment before he recollected himself and continued to pat your head, pressing a kiss on top of your crown.
“I'm sure auntie will understand, I know that she would've wanted you to find a good man like she and your sister did.”
A voice at the back of your head told you he was referring to himself but you threw the thought away as soon as it went.
“Personally, I would've taken the ticket and ditch him.” He laughed and you hit his arm with a barely concealed grin. “All I'm saying is that free things should be used and if it's gifted then better! You get to decide how to use it so refund it!”
“I don't think it's that easy.”
“Just say Kim Seokjin of BTS asked for a refund and they'll immediately accept it.”
Pulling away, you playfully rolled your eyes at him, earning you one last laugh as you walked to the kitchen where the sizzles of the food being fried on the pan had long been muted. Jin followed you with an onslaught of words spilling from his lips, justifying and detailing how he would've done in your place as you placed your bag down on the island counter before reaching for the spare apron.
Hearing his rants filling the silence made it easier to relax, made forgetting how upset you were at Guwon a walk in the park.
It was familiar and his voice, despite his fiery indignation, was oddly comforting.
Soon enough, your conversation halts and you both position yourself over the counter, following his orders mindlessly; which is mostly dicing the vegetables and the slabs of meat he marinated last night in soy sauce and spices.
You found the repetitive motions of chopping soothing and silently thanked the man now hovering over the saucepan, gently stirring the seaweed soup.
As if sensing your eyes boring holes on the back of his head, his ears reddened and he looked over his shoulder to meet your gaze.
“W-what is it? Wh-why are you looking at me like that?”
“Just admiring how huge your shoulders are and how reliable you are.”
You recalled how dearly he cared for his group despite the exhaustion from practicing singing and dancing the whole day. Despite being the youngest in his family, Jin took on the mantle of the oldest brother in the group easily and selflessly provided for his members alongside Yoongi and Namjoon. If it were anybody, you were sure the boys would've been sick or had long given up, especially when the company was about to file bankruptcy in their earlier years.
From the bone shattering dances, exhausting practices and routines stretching from dawn till dusk, you were thankful Seokjin was there to catch the others when they fall.
It was a hard task nobody would've assumed since selfishness is a built-in trait of a human yet Seokjin proved you wrong when he stayed up every night despite the muscle cramps and exhaustion weighing his bones to cook for his members, taking the role of the eldest like it was a second nature despite being the youngest in his family.
He barked out a half-hearted laugh as his red ears brightened from the compliment. “I already know that of course!”
“Thank you for everything, Jin.”
His face crumpled when he laughed bashfully, the bright hue in his ears crawling to dusk his cheeks as well. It didn't take long before he recovered and like clockwork, in reaction to being flustered by compliments, he got defensive and raised the saucer threateningly at you.
“Ya! If you're planning to compliment me, at least be original! I'm done hearing about how wide my shoulders are from ARMY and how reliant I am from the others! We've been together for years, do better and be original with your compliments!”
It was a joke, obviously.
But staring at the older man childishly brandishing his cooking utensil like a bludgeoning weapon, you couldn't help but ponder about what truly pulled you into him only to realize that you've never truly dove deeper than surface level details. It was disappointing to find out how shallow you've been when expressing your appreciation for the man.
Like he said, you've always pointed out how reliable he is but never have you pointed out the small things such as the warm food he claimed have been extras and the hot soups sectioned off for you on cold days.
He was the first to approach you on the first day despite being the member who mostly kept to himself, asking you if you wanted to celebrate their Rookie of the Year win with them instead of the rowdy staff behind you.
The first one to build a bridge leading to this deep companionship you had with the rest of the members, have you really never thanked him for that?
“You're so caring and humble despite your background and where you are right now. If it was anybody else, they would've left the boys to fend for themselves once they were able to yet you didn't stop cooking for them, for us. I don't think I have ever met a man so down to earth and as loving as you are,” You paused. “Well, except Jimin but if you want something more original I'd say I love your hands even when you think they're weird because they—”
You didn't even realize Jin crossed the distance between you both until his hands clasped around your lips, silencing you completely.
Unlike earlier with only his ears blushing, his cheeks now glowed red, the flushed skin spreading down to his neck, continuing past the collar of his dark blue pajamas. When your eyes meet, you find his glistening with unshed tears no doubt touched by your hastily put together declaration of your appreciation for him.
When it was clear you wouldn't continue your rant, his arms fell to your shoulders and pulled you into a tight embrace.
His violent heartbeats thudding against his chest was the first thing you've heard before you registered the stuttered exhales and his gentle saccharine scent filling your senses, clouding your brain completely. For a moment, it was just you and him in the kitchen, hugging a little longer than friends should be.
But then again, since when have you guys ever drawn the line on how platonic touches should last?
“God… You gotta stop doing that.”
“I'm just following what you told me like a good dongsaeng and I think I did exceedingly well on it. Does that guarantee a deduction on my pay deduction?”
There's an odd, invisible weight that lifted off of you, something you didn't even realize you were carrying. But there's also a tinge of guilt pinching the edges of your heart.
Jin was the first to approach you, and the first to confess four years ago. He was all shy looks and sweet smiles, his sweet words accompanied by a bouquet of flowers that must've cost him more than he could've gotten from being an idol of a new group.
When Jin loves, he gives his all and doesn't think twice to give half of himself as well. In a way, he and Yoongi were alike, just with different approaches.
He was open and unapologetic while Yoongi was subtle and often silent.
His laugh twinkled in your ears but it dwindled later on, as if he remembered something towards the end of his mirth. “You're driving me crazy, how am I supposed to move on when you're this lovely?”
Hearing him confirm your suspicion about his crush—is it even called that at this point?—relieved you from an unknown anxiety most likely sparked by Jungkook's words a few nights ago. Why are you even relieved hearing him still liking you when all you've done is hurt him?
“You're such an idiot, you know that?”
“Love makes you do the stupidest thing but I don't think I've ever regretted ever falling for you.”
He pulls away, a gentler, softer smile now tugging his lips up.
“God, you made me sappy! My god, my soup!”
Even without the warmth of his embrace, you could feel it radiate in the small space of the kitchen. You continued your work as Jin fuzzed about the seaweed soup behind you, bathing in the domesticity of it all.
Your phone vibrates loudly in your bag on the island counter. Wiping your hand on your apron, you opened it to see Jimin’s messages.
[18:56] Mimi: seokjin hyung told me to buy the strongest alcohol [18:57] Mimi: any idea why he’s being weird? [18:57] You: I’ll tell jin that you called him weird [18:57] You: but yes [18:57] You: I’ll tell you all later why [18:58] Mimi: 🤨 [18:58] Mimi: not if I get you drunk in the first ten minutes [18:58] You: I’d like to see you try, pretty boy
Your phone vibrated again. Namjoon had texted you, seeing the preview you rolled your eyes.
[18:59] Joonie: Seokjin hyung didn’t say but I already figured it out [18:59] Joonie: You'd hear enough from Yoongi hyung later but [18:58] Joonie: I told you so [18:58] You: I hope you trip and fall on shit🥰 [18:59] Joonie: Love you too, noona😁 [18:59] You: blocked🚫
“I'm not seeing enough chopping, young lady. Get back to your station!” Jin jokingly scolds. With a laugh, you return to your spot.
By the time some of the boys arrived—except Jimin, Jungkook and Taehyung, no doubt pre-gaming somewhere—it was already ten and some of the dishes were plated, ready to be eaten in the dining room. If it wasn't for both your and Jin's advanced thinking to ready the bowl of rice and their plates beforehand, they would have starved to death as Yoongi dramatically puts it before blaming Hoseok for draining them out the whole day.
The man in question just laughed in response before shrugging and rebuking their ‘accusations’, saying it wasn't even that hard. To this, Yoongi grumbled under his breath and Namjoon rolled his eyes.
A few minutes later, the maknaes entered, cheeks all flushed except for Jimin who was holding up a bag full of canned alcohol as if it was game from an all-day hunt.
You thanked Jimin silently for drinking the birthday boy tipsy enough to make the dinner energetic instead of the awkwardness you thought it'd be due to what happened a few days ago. There's fleeting eyes you've caught in between jokes he made, either pouring with adoration or longing, you tried to not to pay it much mind.
But of course, the alcohol pouring could only go for so long before you're all lounging in the living room to talk about anything that comes to mind. It was half an hour short from the clock tickling to twelve, signifying Jungkook's actual birthday.
The conversation started off tame with Taehyung questioning the animals who sleep standing to something more elaborate with Yoongi asking everyone's opinion about some decrypt conspiracy theory surrounding the rich of the west. It was all fun and games when Taehyung, lost in his own mind running with the most random thought, sluggishly pointed at you and asked:
“Wh-why aren't you checking your phone? G-Guwon hyung haven't been texting you yet?”
Many heads turned to you who was practically boneless in between a tipsy Hoseok and a still sober Yoongi. You didn't even need to look to know the look of concern Jin was throwing your way.
But everything was hazy, your head throbbing from the alcohol. The words slipped past your lips before you could think about it.
“We parted ways… He accused me of sleeping around when I said I didn't want to go on a trip with him tomorrow ‘cause I didn't want to skip Jungkookie's birthday.”
Hoseok patted your shoulder and Yoongi nodded, face indifferent as usual. Despite the reaction of the boys on both sides, not everyone in the circle held the same opinion it seems.
“You didn't have to decline it, noona. You-you’ve been with us for years, missing one wouldn't hurt me much.”
Jungkook's voice was softer as if he had sobered up from the revelation and you waved him away.
“What are you saying? I couldn't leave when we weren't alright.” You glimpsed at Jin before continuing. “Besides, he was planning to propose and I'm glad he couldn't anymore.”
In your drunken mind, the information didn't carry much weight but the pin drop silence following your words did, you guessed that it must've been. However, it didn't last long when Taehyung jumped up to his feet and punched the air as if Korea just scored the final score in FIFA.
The boys look at him with wide eyes, shocked by his reaction. Jimin recovers and tries to tug him down but a drunk Taehyung is determined, with a will stronger than a monk's resilience and patience, no one could stop him from doing what he wanted.
And that was bumping his glass on your forehead, a little harder than it should've been if he was sober and you reel back, a hand over your forehead.
“Noona! you're free again! Do you know what that means?!”
“Ok that's enough for you tonight. Let's get you to bed.” Jimin says, chuckling awkwardly as he stands behind his best friend, wrapping his arms around his waist before dragging him away.
“Why? Can't I just congratulate noona from recognizing something was off instead of ignoring it like most do? Noona,” He turned to you, bottom lip jutted out. “It's not bad that I'm celebrating right?”
Seokjin’s laugh was nervous when he rose to usher the man away as well. “Alright, lets all calm down so we don't accidentally say something while drunk.”
“Fuck yeah! I-I don’t even know why I even believed his lies, he’s a lawyer for fucks sake!”
“Not that it ever stopped you before. I still don't understand why you couldn't have married one of us instead.” Jungkook cuts in, suddenly irritated.
Somehow, the tension in the room grew tenfold and everyone sits up, alert and ready to interfere if their youngest decides to let the alcohol take control of him. Your brain clears once it registered the annoyance in his voice, heart dropping to the soles of your feet.
“Jungkook—”
“I just think it's a bullshit excuse and you know it. You told that to Jin-hyung four years ago and have repeated it ever since. We’re all adults now, we can handle a little rejection and who’s to say we can’t date when we’re the only idol running the company. You say it's because you don’t want to choose but aren’t you just instilling false hope in us?”
He stood as he grew more agitated but Jin pushed him down, eyes stern as he stared down at their youngest. Seeing the conflict brew between them, the growing guilt built by years of spending time with them reawakened.
It tied your stomach in a knot and felt like a building had dropped onto your heart.
As if sensing your emotions, Yoongi’s hand found your shoulder to give it a squeeze.
“You’re not thinking straight so stop it,” Jin excuses as he turns to you with an apologetic smile. “He’s just drunk, he doesn’t—”
“I know what I’m saying and I think you’re being too biased here hyung!”
“Jungkook…” Hoseok calls from next to you, voice low, a warning.
“You too! She’s also your friend, why aren’t you pointing out how she’s just playing with us? Why are you only calling me out?”
“Because you’re being a stupid drunk right now, Jungkook. Stand down .” Yoongi ordered, voice firm and warning. His arms are crossed as he stared their youngest down but the maknae wasn’t intimidated by it, if anything, the fire in the older man’s eyes only fueled the anger boiling within him.
In years you’ve watched over them, never once has Yoongi scolded their youngest past Run BTS contents, leaving the reprimanding to their oldest and leader. For him to call him out and seeing them grow agitated by each other’s presence, dread loomed over you with your nightmares threatening to come true.
This isn’t how tonight’s party was supposed to go.
“Isn’t there anyone who’d agree with me at how absurd all of this is?!” His head snapped at Namjoon who’s watching with a careful eye. “Hyung, surely you can also see it!”
Throughout the exchange, Namjoon had sat back and watched the interaction from the sidelines instead of interfering on the first hint of a fight breaking out. Even when the situation becomes a little aggressive, he stays silent but you don’t doubt that he’d be the first to stand if the disagreement becomes volatile and inching towards physical.
That's what he always has done, observed and let the high rise of emotions eventually tides down to a calm on their own. He's a leader, he's supposed to be fair and to do so, he must first understand both sides before taking action. He also trusts his own team to temper their own ire after years of being together.
But now that he's forced to join the argument, he sighed and stood. Seokjin stepped away as he approached their youngest with both hands placed on his shoulders to sit him back down.
Obediently, Jungkook follows.
“While I do see where you’re coming from, I think it's a bit unfair that you’re blaming her for being scared.” Jungkook opens his mouth but a firm shake of Namjoon’s head shuts him up. “Don’t start again. There’s a power imbalance here kid. If her choosing someone could cause a problem, we’d get off scot free but not her. In the eyes of the company, she’s disposable—”
“But she’s not.”
“She is. In their eyes at least. By having her around causing problems for us, she’s nothing but a thorn in their side that they should remove. If she had dated one of us and eventually broke up, it would cause an awkwardness and riff between guys especially if it ended on a bad note and BigHit won't stand for it. You know how important this job is for her, right?”
They stared at each other for a long while, both unrelenting in silence. You all waited with bated breath, Namjoon was the only one who could diffuse the situation and if he fails, then who else could possibly calm the maknae down?
Turning to the clock, you bit your lip at the time.
It was nearing Jungkook's actual birthday, three minutes short before both hands ticked to twelve.
Which meant it would have to start during the denouement of an argument. The thought planting discomfort in your stomach. Such a happy celebration shouldn't be welcomed like this.
In the midst of raised voices and pointing fingers, Taehyung has completely sobered up from where he sat between Jimin’s thighs, staring beady eyed at the situation in his friend’s arms. Sensing your gaze, he turned to you with a sheepish, apologetic smile when Jungkook's heavy sigh broke through the silence.
His head fell to his chest as Namjoon removed his hands from his shoulders yet his eyes remained on their youngest’s hunched form.
“You get what we're trying to say now, do you?”
“Y-yeah…”
“Anything you want to say, gguk?” Namjoon was talking to him like he was a kindergarten teacher and you both were kids who fought on the sandbox for the shovel, warm and understanding but the disappointment in his tone is clear as day.
Jungkook doesn't reply but he shoots up to his feet, surprising Hoseok next to you, with eyes still trained on the floor.
When he did look up to meet your gaze, it was brief and cut off by a deep bow. You reached your hands out, trying to stop him from doing so but Yoongi took one of your hands and pinned them down between his and your thighs.
Jungkook never had to bow for you and it felt wrong seeing him bent down to apologize.
“I-I’m sorry noona, I—” He trails off.
In his speechlessness in a room full of people who—while understanding where he comes from—stood behind you, he clams up and then in a flash, he’s gone, bolting from the living room and skipping up the stairs. The sound of his heavy footfalls echoing like the clock ticking down to his birthday.
The argument has been dissolved, yet it left a bitter taste on your tongue, it made you feel queasy having everyone back you up without reprimanding you as well. It was true, what Jungkook said.
Weren't you practically leading them on by not choosing anyone? No matter how unintentional it must be, if he thinks that way then maybe everyone else in the group does, just silently.
You turned to the clock again. A minute closer to the next day.
Frustration made you want to pull your hair out but the long, lithe fingers that have entangled with yours in the middle of it all, forbade you from doing so. As if he could hear the internal debate between logic and emotions, Yoongi gave you a comforting squeeze.
But it didn't feel right, you shouldn't be sitting on your ass while Jungkook blamed himself for expressing his own opinion, sure it was a bit aggressive but you understood his frustration.
“Jungkook!” You called out, rising to your feet to follow him when Yoongi tightened his hold on your wrist and shook his head.
“He needs time to process, leave him be.”
Yet despite this, you shrugged his hold off and followed the youngest’s heavy footfalls upstairs and presumably into his room. You caught onto him in the hallway, with the door to his room opened and half of his body already inside.
“Jungkook, let us talk.”
“I-I don't want to see you right now, noona please.”
The desperation to correct the wrongs gives you a short burst of energy and you catch his wrist.
“Jungkook please, I—”
You heard the joyful chime of the clock downstairs before you heard the sweet jingles of bells.
Then you felt it.
Electric jolts shoot up from your connected hands, waking every cell and your mind awake and you almost keel over from the wave of relieving warmth washing over your body. There’s now a low hum accompanying the bells chiming in the background, the soft harmony between them sending shivers down your spine.
You've thought of first meetings like those scenes in Hollywood movies where a kaleidoscope of colors explodes behind your eyelids, like fireworks celebrating the precious moment where the protagonists finally meet and fireworks shoot up to the sky. They talked of a brief moment of reprieve from reality, the world slowing down and feeling the most calmed you've ever been with your soulmate in hand.
Like your soul finally recognizing its pair and suddenly, everyone became a blur in the background.
Yet when you stared back at Jungkook's mirrored astonishment, your stomach bottomed out.
Because no way in hell, after all this time, you're soulmates.

notes: surprise!! Please ignore the fact that it's been three months since I last posted a fic. Life has been coming at me pretty fast this year, and it's made it incredibly difficult for me to find the time or motivation to write. But I've been thinking about and planning this one since almost October, so I wanted to be sure I was able to put this out as a little Christmas gift for you all!! Thank you for being so patient with my inconsistent posting schedule this year, and I hope you're all able to enjoy some time with your loved ones this holiday season! Also I know that Mila is still a baby, but for the sake of the fic, please pretend she's a toddler Merry Christmas to all of you, my loves!!
You blew hot air into your clenched fists in an attempt to warm them as you stood in the small Manchester café. The biting cold of the outdoors was still making your fingertips ache as you lingered near the counter, long after you had finished placing your order and paying.
You briefly surveyed the somewhat empty café, admiring the glowing lights and cheerful decorations that the owners had put out for the holiday season. A few sets of what you assumed to be grandparents and their grandchildren were also waiting alongside you, some of the children pressing their faces up against the glass display case as they relayed which pastries and treats they wanted to take home with them.
Today was the first Christmas that you had ever spent alone, and seeing the families happy and smiling together made your heart ache a bit, longing for your childhood when the season still felt magical and joyous.
To say that it had stung when your parents told you they would be travelling to spend the holiday with your brother would be an understatement. It had been unexpected, and they had only given you a little less than a week’s notice, meaning that as you were expected to work both the day before and after Christmas, you didn’t have enough time to make arrangements to go on the trip with them. You knew that your parents missed your brother as he had moved away a couple of years ago, and you understood why they would want to go see him and his wife that he had recently married. But it was hard to get left behind to spend the holiday that’s all about being together and giving to one another alone.
So now, on the afternoon of Christmas, you found yourself standing in a small bakery in Manchester, the very one that your family would always stop by on Christmas Day to get a few smalls treats to take back home after you had opened all of your gifts.
You had spent the morning at home, watching a couple Christmas films to try to put yourself in a festive mood and generally just feeling sorry for yourself. You had tried your best not to just mope about all day, but it proved difficult. By the time the afternoon rolled around, you decided that it just didn’t feel right to not make your annual trip to the bakery, even if it would be by yourself this year. So you had dragged yourself out of bed, put on a nice sweater and some black leggings and styled your hair a bit in the hopes of making yourself feel better, and decided to walk to the bakery in order to get a bit of fresh air.
You were lost in your own thoughts, fantasizing about the sweet taste of the coffee and pastry that would surely be coming your way soon when the bell above the entrance rang out. Your eyes naturally jumped over to the door to see where the noise was coming from, and your stomach sank to your feet when you saw who had stepped in.
It was Mason.
You and Mason had been going out for the last few weeks—not long enough to put an official label on it, but long enough that the two of you had gotten to know each other better and knew that you were both serious about this.
You had no idea what he was doing at the small bakery, but the last thing you wanted was for him to find out how pitiful you were, spending Christmas at home, alone on your couch.
Your hand darted up, scratching the side of your head in an attempt to hide your face from him as he approached the register only 10 feet away from you. Hoping that was enough to make sure he wouldn’t see you, your heart began to race as you realized that the worker would be calling out your name when your order was ready, and there would surely be no escape then.
You were beginning to contemplate the possibility of just leaving without the items you had paid for when his soft voice cut through your thoughts, thwarting any plans you’d had to run.
“Y/N?” he asked sweetly, and you could hear the smile in his voice. “Fancy seeing you here! Happy Christmas!”
You glanced up at him, his eyes bright as you tried to feign surprise at the sight of him.
“Mason, hi!” He drew you into a quick embrace, his scent surrounding you almost immediately. “Happy Christmas!” you mumbled into his chest before he released you.
“W-What are you doing here?” you rushed to ask, hoping to avoid any questions about your holiday celebrations.
“I’m actually on my way back home from training,” he spoke, scratching the back of his neck.
“Training? On Christmas?” you exclaimed. “That’s cruel!”
He laughed shortly, nodding along as he spoke. “I know, but we actually have a match tomorrow, so they couldn’t afford us a day off, unfortunately.” He shrugged, seeming like his cheery mood hadn’t been too phased by the interruption from his job. “But anyway, my family all came to mine for the holidays, and my nieces insisted I bring back a treat for them when I came home. I remembered you had mentioned this place, so I thought I should give it a try.”
Your heart fluttered at his mention of your conversation from a couple weeks ago. You had told him about the tradition in passing on a date when he had asked about how you and your family usually celebrated Christmas, and the fact that he had even remembered that detail meant the world to you.
“Oh, that’s so lovely that they were all still able to come up to celebrate with you,” you smiled at him.
“Yeah, they all arrived yesterday, and we did stockings this morning, but I’m sure my nieces are itching for me to get home so they can open the rest of their presents.”
Your chest felt warm at the way he always spoke about his family—especially his young nieces. Anyone could see from a mile off that he loved them all dearly.
“Are they going to be able to stay long?”
“They’ll be here for a couple of days, actually! Gonna be able to go to the game tomorrow as well, so I’m really excited to be able to have them there.” His grin spread nearly from ear to ear, the crinkles by his eyes becoming more pronounced. “But what about you? I’m assuming you’re here picking up the traditional Christmas pastries?”
Your heart sank, trying to find a way around the fact that you were alone for the holidays. You didn’t want him to pity you or to feel bad for expressing his joy over having his family with him. “Well, actually, I—um—”
“Y/N!” one of the bakery’s employees called out, placing a small to-go cup of coffee and a single, wrapped pastry on the counter. Your head dipped low, you walked over to the counter, picking up your order and quietly thanking the employee before you turned to walk back over to Mason. The look of confusion was unmistakable on his face as he looked at the single pastry in your hands, rather than the bulk order of treats that you had told him about weeks prior.
“My… parents actually went to visit my brother for the holidays,” you spoke quietly, having to force each word of your admission out. “So the order’s just for me today.” You forced a smile onto your face, hoping he wouldn’t see through the façade.
“Don’t tell me you’ve been on your own today,” Mason spoke, and you rushed to assure him that you were fine.
“I mean, yeah, but it’s—”
“Y/N, there’s no use in that. We have plenty of food and space at mine! You should’ve said something!”
“I—what?” His response caught you completely off-guard, not at all what you had expected him to say.
“Come over! We’d love to have you!” A huge smile spread across his face as he spoke to you. “There’s no reason for you to spend the holidays alone.”
“Mason, I couldn’t,” you immediately began trying to track back, but he didn’t seem at all discouraged by your protest. “I wouldn’t want to impose, and—”
“You’re not imposing, I’m inviting you,” he stated, matter-of-factly, as if it was just a simple matter. “My family would love to have you, and my nieces will be overjoyed to have someone new around!”
You were stumbling over your words, unable to fight against his persistence. “But… But I…”
“Look, we don’t have to say anything about us at all,” Mason said, sensing your resolve crumbling bit by bit. “You don’t have to meet my family as the girl that I’m dating, I’ll just introduce you as a friend. It’ll be completely fine.”
You bit your lip as you searched his face for any sign of hesitation. You couldn’t deny that the idea of joining in his family’s festivities did lift your spirits a little bit. The idea of being gathered around a Christmas tree and watching everyone opening gifts, maybe wrapped up in a warm blanket as you shared laughs with the others.
The final nail in the coffin for you was thinking about going back to your dreary apartment with the half-hearted decorations and spending the rest of the day by yourself.
“Please?” Mason pleaded with you one last time, his eyebrows raised as he gave you his best puppy dog eyes to convince you.
“You’re sure no one will mind?”
“I’m positive. My mum would be more upset with me if she found out I knew you were spending Christmas alone and didn’t bring you home.” The grin resumed its place on his lips as soon as you agreed, Mason bouncing slightly on his toes in giddy excitement.
Just at that moment, a voice rang out, calling Mason’s name, signaling that his order was ready to go. He quickly moved to the counter, scooping up the rather large box of pastries and holding it in one hand while he grabbed yours with the other and nearly dragged you out of the door of the bakery. You couldn’t help the giggle that slipped from your lips at his almost child-like glee at your agreement to join his family for the rest of their Christmas celebrations.
“Alright, you want to just follow me there?” he asked as the two of you strode into the parking lot. You had been to his place once before for a movie night, but he wanted to be certain you got there safely and didn’t lose your way.
“I actually walked here from my apartment, so would you mind if I just rode with you?” you asked sheepishly.
“Of course, love.” The pet name slipped out without him even thinking about it as he led you to the passenger side of his car, opening the door for you. Testing his luck a bit, Mason pressed a quick kiss to the top of your head as you stepped past him to get into the car, and you felt the heat rushing into your cheeks as he closed the door behind you.
He popped in the driver’s seat, starting the engine and turning the radio onto some station playing nonstop Christmas music, and the two of you were off, heading in the direction of his home.
You were thankful that his house was a little while away as it gave you time to collect yourself before walking into a room full of Mason’s closest family members. You thanked your lucky stars that you had gotten to urge to dress at least a little bit nice before leaving your apartment that morning so that you’d be presentable for meeting them.
After all, even if he introduced you to them as his friend this time around, if things with Mason went the way you hoped they would, you’d be seeing them many times again in the future, and you wanted to make a good first impression.
The drive to his house was comfortable. The moments of silence were peaceful and never tense. The two of you caught up a bit since you hadn’t seen each other for a few days, and you tried your best not to think too hard about the nerve-wracking evening ahead of you. Mason kept glancing over at your bouncing knee—he could tell that you were nervous, and you could tell that he was fighting the urge to hold your hand.
So, in a moment of bravery, you reached over, bringing his free hand into your lap and intertwining your fingers. You couldn’t help the way your heart fluttered at the slight blush that crept up his cheeks and over the bridge of his nose as he began stroking his thumb across your knuckles, back and forth in a soothing motion.
Sooner than you were prepared for, Mason turned into the long driveway that wound back to his house, and you swallowed a nervous lump as his house came into view.
“You’re sure this is okay?” you asked as he put the car in park and turned off the engine, still somewhat nervous about intruding on their family holiday.
“Y/N, it’s fine,” Mason held your face in both of his hands for a moment, trying to reassure you to the best of his ability. “My mum loves hosting new people, so she’s gonna be super excited when I bring you in there!”
Something about the way he said that made your ears perk up. “Wait, Mason—Mason!” you exclaimed as he quickly got out of the driver’s seat. You threw open your door, leaping to your feet despite the fact that Mason was on his way around to your side to open the door for you. “Did you not at least text them to let them know I was coming with you?” you asked, exasperated.
Mason shrugged as if he didn’t see what the big deal was, shaking his head ‘no.’
“Mason! I can’t just—”
He cut you off by pressing his finger to your lips, gently shushing you. “Hey, trust me,” he looked intensely into your eyes. “It’s okay,” he said slowly.
Your shoulders slumped slightly, resigning yourself to him as you whispered a soft “okay.”
He tapped the tip of your nose and a quiet giggle escaped from your lips. You hated and loved how this boy could turn you into complete mush in mere moments. It made you feel so giddy but also so vulnerable at the same time, and it was a feeling you were still getting used to.
He held onto the car door, letting you step out from behind it before closing it and gestured for you to head toward his front door once he had retrieved the box of pastries from his back seat. He reassured you of his presence just behind you with his hand placed gently on the small of your back.
You hesitated at the front door, letting out a shuddery breath.
“Hey, it’s no biggie. Don’t freak yourself out, okay?” Mason spoke as if he had been able to read your mind, sneaking one final kiss to your forehead before stepping toward the door and reaching for the doorknob. Even though you hadn’t been seeing each other for very long, you noticed how Mason couldn’t seem to help himself from those small touches—the little gestures of reassurance like the forehead kisses, a hand on your back, and gentle touch on your knee—and it kind of surprised you how much they settled you, as you had never been big on copious amounts of physical touch in your past relationships.
Mason stepped through the doorway into his home, and you followed behind him, doing your best to still your racing heart.
It was only seconds after the sound of the door opening could be heard within the house that you hear the sound of tiny feet slapping on the floor, heading in your direction. Moments later, two little girls rounded the corner and came bolting toward you and Mason as he closed the door behind the two of you, the air filled with their squeals and giggles.
“Uncle Masey! Uncle Masey!” they screamed, wrapping their arms around each of his legs. Mason immediately matched their energy, clearly just as excited to be coming home to them as he squeezed them close to his body with his free hand. You took the box of pastries from him so that he could bend down, scooping them both up in his arms and pressing kisses all over their faces. The girls giggled and screamed as he told them how much he had missed them between kisses.
Mason finally pulled back after one final, dramatic kiss that had the older of the two wiping at her cheek and she laughed at him. If you had thought the way Mason spoke about his nieces was sweet, it was nothing compared to the way he acted around them.
“Summer, Mila, this is Y/N,” Mason spoke once the girls’ giggles had quieted.
“Is she your wife?” the older girl asked, and your mouth dropped open in shock.
Mason, clearly amused by her question, threw his head back and laughed. “No, Summer. Y/N is just my friend.”
“Oh, okay,” Summer shrugged, quickly moving on from the conversation, wiggling so that Mason would set her back on the floor. Immediately she took off, running out of sight and Mason followed behind her with Mila still in his arms.
Voices could be heard coming from the kitchen, and you remained just behind Mason as you followed him, hoping that his body would shield you from the rest of his family.
When you found the others, you first saw Summer crawling up into one of the tall chairs at the kitchen bar, surrounded by numerous others. Perfectly-shaped gingerbread cookies lined the countertop, placed on sheets of wax paper, and bags of differently-colored icing were strewn around the countertop, along with various shapes and sizes of sprinkles. Cheerful Christmas music was ringing out through the room, and a warm feeling spread through your chest at the sight of it all.
Several of Mason’s family members greeted him as soon as the three of you entered the spacious kitchen, happy to see him back home from training.
Mason wasted no time in bringing you around to his side with a gentle hand between your shoulders before he let his hand fall to his side, not wanting to make you feel self-conscious in front of his family.
“Guys, this is my friend, Y/N,” Mason smiled at you reassuringly. “She’s gonna be joining us for the rest of the day.”
His introduction irked you slightly, wanting to give more of an explanation for why you were crashing their holiday when Summer piped up from where she was very focused on decorating her gingerbread man. “And she’s not Uncle Masey’s wife.”
A chorus of laughs rang through the room, and you felt your cheeks heat up, forcing a laugh to try to play off the fact that you felt like you were about to pee your pants.
A woman who you could only assume was Mason’s mother wiped her hands off on a dish towel, walking in your direction with open arms.
“Oh, it’s so lovely to meet you, Y/N! I’m Debbie—Mason’s mum,” she spoke, confirming your guess. Mason quickly snatched the box of pastries from you so your hands were free and Debbie pulled you into a tight embrace—it was one of those hugs where you felt every muscle in your body relax a bit, and immediately you felt a little bit more settled in the unfamiliar environment.
“Thank you so much for having me.” You felt a bit silly, thanking her for being willing to do something she hadn’t even really agreed to in the first place.
“No, no, it’s nothing!” Debbie pulled back from the hug, waving her hand at you before she led you further into the kitchen, beginning to introduce you to everyone. You met Mason’s father, Tony, who had greeted you with the same warm embrace that Debbie had, and then she introduced you to Mason’s brother, Lewis, and his sister Jaz and her husband before repeating the young girls’ names to you. Everyone had greeted you cheerfully, not even blinking an eye at the fact that Mason had brought a stranger home to join their Christmas celebration.
It wasn’t long before Debbie had you set up with your own sheet of wax paper and a cookie to decorate. You caught Mason’s eye, a sweet smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye that said I told you so.
You were surprised at how easy it was to settle in with Mason’s family. You had never been someone that was good at meeting new people, and it typically took you a while to warm up to them. But Mason’s family wasted no time in treating you as one of their own, and it almost felt natural to be there with them within minutes.
Playful banter was exchanged, Summer and Mila were shouting for everyone to look at their sprinkle-covered cookies, and everyone was laughing. Mason settled into his spot next to you, nudging you gently with his shoulder.
Mason’s family asked a little bit about yourself, but they kept the questions light, and you were thankful that they didn’t try to dig into why Mason had brought you home.
Once all the cookies had been decorated, the girls began shouting that it was time to open presents and Jaz had to wrestle them into wiping their hands and faces clean of icing before they took off, sprinting in the direction of the living room.
Once everyone had settled in the living room, some on the couch, some sitting on the floor, Tony donned a large Santa hat and beard before he began to distribute the gifts that were under and around the tree. You had kicked your shoes off by the door and tucked your legs up under you as you settled into the cushions next to Mason, a respectable amount of space still between you as you still didn’t really know how to handle yourselves around his family.
Each person opened their presents as Tony handed them out, one by one, and everyone ooh-ed and ahh-ed as each gift was uncovered. Debbie and Jaz were taking lots of photos of everyone as they tore into their gifts. Your heart swelled at the thoughtful gifts that were exchanged. It became quickly apparent that remembering small details about the things people said was something that Mason had gotten from his family.
Mason kept silently checking in on you, glancing over to make sure you doing okay. You could feel his gaze on the side of your face, glancing over and making eye contact with him before shooting him an assuring smile.
By the time all of the presents were open and the wrapping paper and ribbons had been collected and put into trash bags, it was nearing dinner time and Debbie disappeared back into the kitchen to put the finishing touches on the food. You sprang to your feet, naturally wanting to help her as a thank you for having you as a guest (despite her insistence that you didn’t need to), and Jaz joined the two of you soon after.
Conversation flowed naturally between the three of you, and you felt completely at ease talking with them as you worked to finish the finals bits of the Christmas dinner, most of it having been prepared before and very little needing to be done to finish it.
The fated question finally came up as the three of you were carrying everything to the table.
“So, Y/N, I don’t mean to pry, but I’ve got to ask.” Your heart leapt immediately at Debbie’s words. “Are you and Mason only friends, or is there something more going on there?”
You pondered for a moment how to answer her question. At the beginning of the day, you would never have dreamed of admitting the nature of your relationship with Mason to his mother. But now, after the time you had spent with him, you settled on telling her the truth. You knew you were serious about the budding relationship between the two of you, and you knew he was, too. Though you hadn’t officially put any labels on it, having decided to take things slow, you had started being more open about it with your circle of friends.
“Well, I… we’ve… gone on a few dates,” you started, and a pleased smile took over Debbie’s face. “We’re taking things slow, but he’s been an absolute gentleman and he’s been nothing short of amazing to me.”
Debbie beamed with pride at your words. “Well, I didn’t raise him to be anything less than that, so I’m glad to hear it.”
“We haven’t been going out for very long, and I really wasn’t planning on crashing your family’s Christmas today,” you felt the need to explain yourself, now that you were putting all of your cards on the table. “My family… they actually are out of town visiting my brother this holiday season, and I happened to run into Mason at the bakery this afternoon. As soon as he found out I was spending Christmas on my own, he insisted I come back here with him, and he was not taking no for an answer,” you chuckled at the recent memory.
“Oh, love,” Debbie’s face held a slight pout as she instantly read the sadness that you tried to hide over not spending the holiday with your family. She pulled you into another of her amazing hugs, placing a quick kiss on your cheek as she drew away. “Well I speak for everyone when I say we’ve loved having you here with us.”
Your mind flashed back to how unphased everyone had been by your arrival. “Does Mason do this a lot? Picking up strays for the holidays?” you tried to play off your question with a laugh, momentarily wondering if you were just another girl on a long list.
Debbie shook her head. “No, he’s never done anything like this before. And he’s certainly never brought a girl home for something like this,” she spoke, calming your nerves. You had felt a bit silly for asking in the first place, but her words soothed your fleeting insecurities. “But hopefully we can look forward to having you at many Christmases in the future,” she beamed, patting your cheek before she wandered back into the kitchen and refraining from prying any further.
You blew out a long breath that you didn’t even realize you had been holding, trying to wrap your head around the conversation you had just had—with a woman you had only met a few hours ago. And it wasn’t just some normal thing for Mason to bring girls home during the holidays, but everyone had just been that welcoming to you, despite showing up without warning. Your chest felt full, swelling with love for Mason and his family.
Debbie called the others to the table to eat, and you wandered in the direction of the living room, hoping to catch Mason for a moment before you joined the others. The rest of his family filtered out of the room, leaving you and Mason alone for the first time in the last few hours.
“You doing okay?” Mason asked, and you wordlessly wrapped your arms around him, burying your face in his chest and holding onto him tighter than you ever had before. Caught a bit off-guard by the affection, Mason wrapped his arms gently around your body, running his fingers up and down your spine.
His heart sank when you pulled your head back to look at him, arms still wrapped around his torso, and he saw the tears welling in your eyes.
“What happened, love?! Did someone say something—”
“Thank you,” you whispered, your lower lip trembling.
“For what, love?” Mason cradled your cheek in one of his hands, swiping his thumb under your eye to wipe away a tear. You noticed that he used the pet name more frequently when he was concerned.
“For bringing me here. For introducing me to your family. They’re amazing, Mason.”
A look of relief and adoration washed over Mason’s face and he smiled at you, leaning down to press his forehead to yours. “I’m so glad you came.”
“Me, too,” you let your eyes slip closed, allowing yourself to take a moment to yourselves and let your heart settle a bit.
“You know your mom asked me about us?” you broke the silence after a few seconds.
“Yeah?” he pulled back to look at your face, trying to gauge your reaction. “And what did you tell her?”
“The truth,” you gently shrugged your shoulders. “That we’ve gone out a few times and we’re taking things pretty slow, but that I think I’ll probably keep you around.”
“Yeah?” he grinned, and you nodded in response.
“Come on, we should probably head in there before Summer comes looking,” you pulled back, wiping away any stray tears with the sleeve of your sweater, hoping that no one would be able to tell how emotional you had just gotten.
The two of you joined the others at the table, taking your place between Mason and Summer after she had insisted you sit beside her, much to Mason’s fake offense. The food was incredible, as it had been a while since you’d had a big home-cooked meal like this, and you were sure to let Debbie know how much you enjoyed it. When everyone’s plates were empty, everyone took part in the freshly-decorated cookies and Mason and Lewis cleared the dishes, being sure to push you, Debbie, and Jaz toward the living room before any of you tried to help.
You were just returning from a quick trip to the bathroom when the boys walked back in from the kitchen, and you noticed everyone settling back down on the couch.
“We always watch a Christmas film after dinner, but I can take you home if you’re ready to leave,” Mason explained to you.
You thought over the offer for a moment, deciding you weren’t really ready to part from Mason and his family just yet.
“I mean… I wouldn’t mind sticking around a little while longer—unless you guys were wanting it to be just a family thing,” you rushed to add, not wanting to overstay your welcome.
Your words were met with immediate protest from the rest of Mason’s family, each of them insisting that you stay, and Mason smiled down at you. “Yeah, what they said.”
You giggled, letting him lead you around to sit next to him on the couch, allowing yourself to sit a bit closer to him than you had earlier that afternoon.
Tony even offered for you to pick the film, but as soon as Summer had shouted her desire to watch Elf, you were all agreed.
Mason threw a fluffy blanket over both of your legs as the movie’s opening scene played. “Is this okay?” he whispered, trying not to draw anyone else’s attention and you nodded in return.
You tucked your legs under your body, allowing your knee to rest slightly on his thigh and your shoulder to lean onto his, now feeling more comfortable showing some affection around Mason’s family.
The movie played on, and your heart soared listening to Summer and Mila giggle and clap their hands at their favorite bits. You felt at home there with Mason and his family, all cozied up in his living room on the night of Christmas as if it was the most natural thing in the world. Your heart swelled with the love that you already felt for all of them, and though you knew it was still a bit soon, you couldn’t wait to get to know them and get to spend more time with them as your relationship with Mason developed.
As comfortable as you were and with all of the lights in the house turned off for the movie, you didn’t even realize your eyes were slipping closed until you jolted awake, recognizing the scene on the TV as one that was near to the end of the movie. Mason must have felt the sudden movement from where your head was resting on his shoulder, and he took your hand in his, running his thumbs over your knuckles to calm you, the same way he had done in the car earlier that day.
You nestled your head further into his shoulder, savoring the last few moments you had with Mason and his family before the movie ended.
It was over sooner than you would have liked, and everyone sat up from where they had sunk into the couch cushions, stretching and yawning. It was clear that everyone was exhausted from the day’s festivities. You rubbed the sleep from your eyes, noticing Jaz and her husband quietly scooping up the girls from where they, too, had fallen asleep, and carried them down the hallway, seemingly to put them to bed.
“You ready to go home?” Mason asked you quietly as everyone began to rise from the couch. You nodded. “Okay, let me go grab my keys and we can head out.”
“Oh, Mason, I can just call an Uber or something, I don’t want to take you away from your family—”
“Absolutely not,” he cut you off. “You think I’m gonna let some stranger come pick you up and drive your back to your apartment?” You grinned at him, unable to find the words to answer him. “Yeah, that’s what I thought.” His voice held an air of playful sarcasm.
Slowly, the two of you made your way to the front entrance. Everyone bade you goodbye as you made to leave. Debbie was sure to get a couple more hugs in before you left, insisting that you come around the next time they were up to visit, and you promised that you would.
Before long, you found yourself sitting in Mason’s car once again as he backed out into the street and set out on the route to your apartment. You were leaning across the center console of his car, leaning your head on his shoulder, and holding his free hand in yours.
You were feeling especially affectionate after the day you had, full of love for him and his family. The drive was silent as you listened to the music softly playing from his radio, no words needed to communicate to each other how you were feeling.
Before long, Mason pulled into the parking lot of your apartment complex and insisted upon walking you up to your door, like the gentleman he always was.
As you reached your door, you turned to face him, giggling at the cliché of it all as you wrapped your arms around his torso. He pulled you in close to him, holding you tightly as he beamed down at you.
“Was your Christmas okay, then? Even though you didn’t get to spend it the way you usually do?”
“Mason, it was wonderful,” you smiled up at him, feeling like there were no words that would do justice for how the day had made you feel. “It was better than I ever could have imagined. Thank you for bringing me home with you today. I was honestly feeling awful after spending the morning by myself and this was the best Christmas miracle I could’ve ever dreamed up.”
Mason squeezed you a little tighter, pleased that his impulsive decision at the bakery to invite you to his home had worked out. “I’m so glad you were there. I’m so glad you got to meet them.”
“I am, too. And I’m glad I got to share this day with you.” Your heart felt like it was overflowing, and you could barely hold yourself together.
You snaked one of your hands around the back of Mason’s neck, threading your fingers into his hair and pulling him down to join your lips in a long but gentle kiss. It was the first one you had shared all day, as Mason had been waiting for you to initiate it first, but you couldn’t refrain from indulging yourself any longer. This was surely your favorite kiss that the two of you had shared, even more so than your first. It was so full of unspoken passion and love, and it left your head spinning when you finally pulled apart for air, foreheads still pressed together.
Mason couldn’t help but press two more quick pecks on your lips before finally pulling back to look at you. The two of you just smiled at each other for a moment, and you studied Mason’s features as you stood there.
“Goodnight, Y/N,” Mason whispered, breaking the silence.
“Goodnight, Mason,” you replied. “Thank you for everything today.” Mason’s only response was a firm kiss on your forehead before he unwound his arms from your body, taking a couple of steps backward as he began heading back to his car.
You watched him walk down the hallway, glancing back at you with a wave before he rounded the corner, and you entered your apartment.
Closing your eyes and leaning against the closed door, you smiled to yourself. You may not have known Mason for long, but already, you were certain that this boy meant the absolute world to you, and his family had found their place securely in your heart.

Chapter 18: Work Song
Hi! Here comes a new chapter!
We’re starting to escape the angst here!
I hope you’ll like this chapter! Please, tell me what you think!
*************************************
Pairing: Hozier x fem!reader, friends with benefits AU
Warning: No explicit smut or nsfw content, but there are sexual themes and heavy make-out sessions (it’s a friends with benefits AU, I can’t really escape it), so 18+ only!
Summary: Andrew has been in love with you for years, and yet he has never confessed his feelings. But a night out celebrating the engagement of his best friend changes everything. However, you don't seem ready to be with him just yet. You make him an offer that he can't refuse... but will certainly regret.

Andrew was getting a little better every day.
He was getting up without too much difficulty these days. His sleep schedule was a mess, but he was getting some work done. He went to see his parents three times a week, saw his brother often too. He went for a swim every morning and a long walk every afternoon. Sometimes he watched a good movie, spent some time reading. He made sure to avoid being in the same room as you, and had declined some friendly gatherings because of it, but he couldn’t claim to regret this decision.
He was getting better. You were still the first thing in his thoughts when he woke up, the last image printed on his eyelids when he fell asleep, but it was a torturing routine he had grown accustomed to by now.
It was like living with your ghost. The memories of you spending time with him in all his most familiar spaces. His house, his favourite spot to swim, his favourite walks, the pub you and your friends always went to… All familiar, but with an empty space constantly by his side.
Today, Andrew was hurrying out of his house. It was still early in the morning, too early for him if he were to be honest, but his best friend could not be waiting for him on his wedding day.
Despite the sadness that usually tainted his days since that night, Andrew was excited today. Happy and excited. He secured his guitar case at the back of his car, and drove to Sam’s house. He wasn’t surprised to find your car already parked there, but it was alright. Of course, you would be there, it was planned, and known. Andrew had sent you a text the previous night, the first form of communication since your ‘talk’ at your house, asking for both of you to keep the interaction to a minimum so that the wedding would go smoothly. Sam and Daphne were the most important today, and you and Andrew could go your separate ways for good after today.
It took you an hour to answer with a short and polite message agreeing with him and promising to remain ‘professional’, as you had put it.
Andrew was both relieved and pained by that answer…
He knocked, and Sam opened the door in the span of mere seconds.
“Jesus fucking Christ, thank God! You’re here!”
Before Andrew could say a thing, Sam was grabbing him by the shoulders.
“Rings?”
“In my pocket.”
“Spare shirts?”
“In the trunk.”
“Your suit?”
“In the car. And yours too.”
“Guitar.”
“Yep, that too!”
“Your weird drinks for your throat? I swear to God, I will skin you alive if you lose your voice before singing for our first dance.”
Andrew rested his hands on his friend’s shoulders as well.
“Sam, I have everything. Don’t worry.”
“You double-checked?”
“Triple-checked. I have everything. It’s going to be just fine.”
Sam started to giggle, tears shining in his eyes.
“I’m getting married today.”
“Today,” Andrew nodded.
“Fuck’s sake…”
“You’d better let me in so I can help you get ready and you aren’t late to church.”
“Right, you’re right.”
They hugged before Andrew would come in, tight and emotional and full of happiness and excitement.
He was moving towards Sam’s bedroom when you appeared. You were walking out of the room, a bag in your hand. You were still wearing casual clothes, planning to change before the ceremony. You froze, but quickly recovered, offering him a polite smile.
“Hi, Andy!”
“Hi,” he answered with the same neutral smile.
“I’m getting out of both your and Sam’s way! I was picking up a few things for Daphne.”
“Of course. Is she alright?”
“Excited. Terrified. In pure bliss.”
“Same as Sam, then?” Andrew chuckled, and you nodded.
“I’m afraid so.”
You nodded in silence, and Andrew bit his tongue before he could ask you how you were, or tell you how beautiful you looked today…
“See you at church, then,” he smiled and you nodded, taking it as your cue to leave.
He stared as you disappeared through the door.
But then Sam was reappearing, babbling about some stressful detail that was insignificant. Andrew smiled, and patted his shoulder.
“Come on, let’s get you ready. Or she’ll never say yes to such an ugly mug.”
Sam and Daphne were married.
It was official. They had both cried, had said yes (Sam was too excited and answered I do before the priest was done with the question), had exchanged rings (that Andrew did carry all morning and for which he checked approximately 2982 times if they were indeed in his pocket), had kissed, had walked out of the church, and finally it was time for the big party.
The eating and the partying were planned outside, under tents that were set in the parc of a large property the couple had rented for the occasion. It was spring, and unusually warm. A clear blue sky with only a few cotton clouds drifting by, and the weather remained that way through the beginning of the evening, as the sun was setting and the moon was slowly appearing in its crescent rise.
The speeches were spoken by a very nervous Andrew and then by you; and you both managed to perfectly balance emotion with humour and embarrassing anecdotes.
The dreaded caterers did an amazing job, that was complimented by the two mothers, and Sam threw a thumbs up at Andrew before starting to eat.
Andrew was sitting next to Sam, and you were next to Daphne, as best man and maid of honour. And Andrew was grateful for it. He wasn’t sitting next to you, and he managed to splendidly avoid talking to you during the day. Still, he could hear your laughter above the loud cacophony of the guests. He couldn’t help but steal glances in your direction every once in a while too, you looked too beautiful in your emerald dress for that.
Andrew pushed the thought away, focusing on the happy conversation that was unfolding around him, forcing a smile.
He hated himself for still wanting you this way…
But Sam and Daphne were happier than ever, and it was all that mattered, truly. They were ecstatic, laughing and smiling constantly, and stealing kisses whenever they could. And it was almost bearable then, the knowledge that you were sitting right over there, and that if he stood up and took but a step, he could hold you close once again.
Pathetic…
When Sam got up to invite everyone to gather outside for a dance, it was Andrew’s and Alex’s cue to get ready. There was a little wooden stage outside the tent as well as a wooden dancefloor, with lights hanging above the space, lightbulbs turning the atmosphere into something magical, cliché and terribly romantic. White flowers were decorating the stage, and hanging from the poles supporting the lights too. With the sky full of stars and the crescent moon above the trees, it was a sight worthy of a magical wedding.
Andrew was soon ready, all plugged in, guitar in hand, with the mic high enough to reach his lips. Alex was right by his side, sitting at the tiny electric piano. He gave Andrew a nod when he was ready, who cleared his throat to announce the first dance of the married couple.
“Daphne and Sam have done me the absolute honour to ask me to sing for their first dance. Erm… thank you again, to both of you, this is genuinely the most important event I’ve ever had to perform for, so… get ready while I try to get rid of most of the stage fright.”
Chuckles shook the crowd that had gathered in circle, right at the edge of the wooden dancefloor. Andrew tried to slow down his heart, take a couple of deep breaths, focusing on the moment, on the task at hand.
“Erm… if you guys are ready, erm… this is Work Song.”
He looked over at Sam, who offered him a nod in return. He had tears in his eyes, and Andrew had to look away, feeling his throat tighten with emotions. And he couldn’t have that now, not when he needed to sing. The first claps were played while Sam and Daphne were moving to the centre of the dancefloor, and they were both a sight to see, under the quiet lights.
Andrew was getting emotional again right before singing, and he looked for a distraction in the crowd as he started the first verse.
He noticed that many were mouthing the words, but not daring to sing. There were too many fond smiles for that, while Sam and Daphne twirled and swayed together, sometimes a little clumsily but with grins making their cheeks ache in the best way.
Andrew allowed himself to look at his friends again for the first chorus, and he kept his gaze on them despite the tears he had to blink away, and the depth that settled in his voice. By his side, Alex was being perfect, as per usual, they didn’t need to look at each other to be in rhythm. They had played this song too many times for that. Muscle memories perfectly combined.
He had to look away again, though, we he caught Sam whispering an ‘I love you’ in Daphne’s ear…
The second chorus was soon gone, and Andrew was trying to calm his nerves, to stay focused on the present, when he caught a silhouette dressed in emerald…
He almost missed a word when his gaze touched yours. And then it was impossible to look away. He blinked, but couldn’t do a thing about it.
You were so beautiful under those lights, under the moon, in this dress that suited you perfectly, for that song of love and devotion that spoke of feelings you sparked within him. He meant the words as he sang them to you. Despite how much you had made him suffer, despite all that you had done… he meant the worship he put in his words when he aimed them at you.
When I was kissing on my baby
And she put her love down soft and sweet
In the low lamplight I was free
Heaven and hell were words to me
He saw your lips quiver, the way you blinked and how your eyes shone a little brighter. He wondered if you were struggling against tears too, the way he was.
And he meant it. And it was fucking killing him, and he wasn’t sure you deserved it after breaking his heart, and he wasn’t sure he deserved you at all… but he meant it. He meant it and he was ready to cry at how much he still loved you. Over a month of trying to get better at functioning on his own, and you were shattering his whole world in just a glance…
That didn’t sound fair at all…
When my time comes around
Lay me gently in the cold, dark earth
No grave can hold my body down
I'll crawl home to her
He saw the tear rolling down your cheeks, he struggled to hold back his own. Still, he sang the same words again, like a promise, like a prayer, like he was begging for you to see that he meant it, that if you gave him another chance, he would probably take it.
Would he? Anyway, you wouldn’t offer it to him. You had been clear. That’s what the voice in his head kept on repeating, and yet there you were… standing and crying and staring at him with pain in your eyes, a feeling he wished he could have banished forever from your life.
Christ, he loved you still… and he would have done anything, even conquer death, for you…
When my time comes around
Lay me gently in the cold, dark earth
No grave can hold my body down
I'll crawl home to her
The song died out, Andrew’s fingers knew when to stop playing. He was shaken back to earth by the loud cheering of the crowd, and by your form disappearing as you walked back to the tent in a hurry.
He turned to Sam and Daphne, who were kissing and beaming and glowing while the dancefloor was being flooded with their loved ones. Alex and Andrew gave a small bow, before leaving the stage, the guests cheering for them.
Andrew needed to see you. He needed to find you…
There you were… you were walking out of the tent again, aiming for the grass that stretched beyond the tent and towards some trees, further down the small park. You had something in your hand, he didn’t know what it was.
He wanted to follow, but he was almost tackled over by Sam instead, as he hugged his friend too tightly.
“Thanks Andy! That was perfect! Thank you!”
Andrew couldn’t refrain a chuckle, while Daphne was hugging Alex too.
“No need to thank us for that. It was an honour, truly,” Andrew smiled.
“Come on, let’s dance!”
“No, no, no…”
“Andrew, it’s my fucking wedding! I want everyone dancing!”
“I hate dancing. I don’t do dancing.”
“Tonight, you do. Come on.”
Andrew looked in your direction, but you were gone.
He heaved a sigh.
“One dance. I do one dance, and that’s it.”
“Yes, yes! Perfect, come on!”
Andrew played along, dancing with Daphne for a song. His friend tried to hold him back when he moved away, but then Alex popped out of nowhere.
“As any of you seen Y/N? I wanted to borrow her charger for my phone, she said she’d give it to me after the first dance but… can’t find her anywhere.”
Andrew’s face fell, worry making him frown.
“Have you called her?”
“Tried to, but her phone is in the tent, and she isn’t.”
“I’ll go look for her.”
“Maybe she’s inside…”
“No, I saw her hurry towards the thicket over there,” Andrew shook his head, pointing at the bundle of small trees and bushes, barely visible in the distance.
There was no light in that area. Without your phone as a torchlight, you might have fallen, hurt yourself, fell right into the arms of a complete psychopath… and you had no way to call for help. Not with the loud music that was being played.
“I’ll go look for her. Alex, can you check inside the house?”
“Andrew, she’s been gone for five minutes…”
But when she looked up at the worry on his face, Daphne fell silent.
“Alright, you go, both of you.”
“Text me if you find her,” Andrew told his friend, who merely nodded and hurried towards the mansion.
Andrew bolted in the opposite direction, his long legs devouring distance in the blink of an eye. He jogged across the grass, passed the trees, turned on the light on his phone.
He looked around but couldn’t see you.
Panic was starting to rise in his chest, get a grip on his heart and make his lungs ache for air.
“Y/N!” he called.
No response, he called again, louder this time.
“Andrew?”
He spun around, and there you were…
On the other side of some hawthorn tree. He heaved a relieved sigh.
“For fuck’s sake! Y/N, what are you doing here?!”
“I… what are you doing here?”
He texted Alex quickly, before approaching you. His tone sounded angry, even though he was simply scared.
“I was looking for you, obviously! What the fuck were you thinking, huh? Going off like that, on your own, in the dark, without your phone! Anything could have happened to you!”
“Andrew, I’m right next to the party, at my best friends’ wedding. I’m safe, it’s alright.”
He groaned in annoyance, or perhaps it was simply relief.
“You can go back to the party, I’m alright.”
“You can’t stay here on your own…”
“Why not? I’m alright.”
But Andrew stubbornly sat next to you.
“I can’t let you stay here on your own.”
“Andrew…”
You heaved a tired sigh, while he was setting his phone so that both of you were enlightened by its light.
“You’re alright? What’s going on?”
He finally noticed the way the light was getting caught in the glass of a bottle of champagne.
“Y/N?”
“I want to be alone…”
“Then come back to the tent.”
You looked up at the sky to hold some tears back.
“Hey… why are you crying? What’s wrong?”
You merely shrugged, but you were properly crying by now.
“Hey… hey, stop crying… please, Y/N…”
He didn’t think. When Andrew wrapped his arms around your shaking frame, when he cradled the back of your head in his large hand to pull you close to his chest, when he shushed you softly… he didn’t think. You were crying, you looked so upset… he had never seen you so upset before. You spent several minutes sobbing in his arms, shaking, despite the way he soothingly stroked your back.
“It’s alright. It’s alright, calm down… Christ, Y/N, calm down…”
Slowly, the tears subsided. You were holding onto his vest like your life depended on it.
“My head is spinning,” you blurted out.
Andrew took a look at the bottle. It was half-empty, and he had no doubt it wasn’t your first drink of the night.
“Champagne will do that to you.”
He kept you close even if you were calmer now. You sniffed, buried your face deeper into his chest. He merely tightened his hold on you.
“You’re okay? Feeling better?”
You slowly nodded.
“You want to tell me what happened? Why you’re so upset?”
He was surprised as you laughed.
“Not really, no.”
“Alright… We should get back there.”
But despite his own words, he didn’t move a muscle. Instead, he closed his eyes, tried to precisely carve in his memory how it felt to hold you: the sound of your breathing, the softness of your hair, the silk of your dress, the warmth of your body against his, how your frame fitted so perfectly into his embrace…
“I’m sorry you were worried. I just wanted to be on my own,” you apologized in a quiet voice, it still sounded a little hoarser than usual because of your sorrow.
“I panicked a little bit. I shouldn’t have reacted like that. I’m sorry.”
“I think… I might throw up…”
“Right… let’s get you inside, then. Come on…”
“No… no, stay. Please, stay…”
“I’ll come with you.”
“No! No… please, Andy. Just another minute…”
“If you throw up on me, I will get my revenge.”
“Turning me into a vampire?”
“I’ll haunt you after I’m turned into a ghost.”
“Stalk me, you mean.”
“Haven’t you noticed how much of a creep I am already?”
You sniffed once more, and he tried to look at your face to see if you were crying again, but you were hidden in his chest.
“I’m so sorry, Andy… I’m so sorry about everything,” you whispered against his heart, but he caught your words loud and clear, despite the music coming from the party.
“Let’s not talk about this now,” he whispered back, bending to press his lips to the side of your head. “We should go back. Your plus-one must be looking for you.”
“A plus-one? You have a plus-one?”
“Me? No… no, I came alone. I’m talking about you.”
“You didn’t see that I was alone?”
Your words were slurred with alcohol, but they sounded genuine, vulnerable too.
“Erm… no… I… I like… tried to avoid you all day, in case you haven’t noticed. That includes not looking in your direction.”
You let got of his vest completely. He expected you to move away, but you didn’t. It felt like you had gone limp in his arms.
“You can’t even look at me anymore…”
You started crying again, and Andrew cursed at his clumsy words.
“No, I mean… you… We’ve agreed to stay out of each other’s way, and that’s what I’ve tried to do.”
“I didn’t come with anyone.”
“Okay.”
“I fucked up… I fucked up, Andy, I’m so sorry…”
“Hey, look… let’s just…”
He looked up at the night sky, in an attempt to hold back his tears. His throat had tightened, he let out a long exhale, trying to focus on the shape of the incomplete moon, the stars that shone brightly, the happy song that was being played, he couldn’t remember the name of it. Anything to try and not crumble in your arms there and then. He had to keep it together.
“Let’s… let’s not talk about this now, okay?” his voice was soft, mainly because emotions were making it hard for him to speak. “We’ve already spoken about what happened. We just… like… We just need to move on now, yeah?”
But you shook your head.
“I fucked up. I fucked up because I was terrified. I was so fucking scared of letting myself have feelings for you… I was so scared of being too lonely when you’re away, of not being able to cope with your absence, with how much I fucking miss you every time you leave. And I was scared you could meet someone better, someone who could follow your lifestyle in a way I couldn’t and then you would have dumped me and…”
You heaved an exhausted sigh, while Andrew was remaining motionless, trying to process what you were saying.
“I should have never thought about this arrangement. I should have never accepted that stupid date. I should have never pushed you away.”
You spoke again after a short silence. Your next phrase knocked out all the air from his lungs.
“I love you. I’ve always loved you… God, I’m so sorry, Andy…”
He couldn’t answer to that. He couldn’t react to it either. He couldn’t process what your words meant…
Besides you were drunk… very drunk… this… this was a mistake…
“Let’s get you inside, Y/N, okay? Come on, now.”
At long last, you let him help you to your feet, and with his help you were able to walk back to the tent. Some members of Sam’s and Daphne’s families were staying at the mansion for the night, and there were still a few empty rooms available. Andrew got a key, and safely helped you to a bed. He took off your shoes, made you lie down, tucked you in. The time it took him to come back with a glass of water to put on your bedside table, you were fast asleep.
He took a moment to watch you like this, hair a mess of locks stranded on the pillow, looking peaceful, even if your crying was still visible. He gently brushed your cheek, dropped a gentle kiss to your forehead, and then he was gone.

ALMOST forgetting your birthday
feat: Ace · Vil · Jamil · Trey genre: fluff note: not gender specific reader, no pronouns used for reader, petnames were used (babe/baby in Ace, gem in Jamil), not proofread,
This is a special treat since I recently celebrated my birthday with my loved ones and classes were canceled on my birthday so I thought why not something birthday related for the fun of it? This is not me venting out that someone forgot my birthday, I just thought it’d be fun because I didn’t expect a voice scene from Riddle wishing me happy birthday when I logged in 😆. So hope you guys enjoy it and please don’t mistake this as me being sad! I actually had a great birthday
Boy was sweating bullets when Riddle asked him about his plans to celebrate your birthday. It totally slipped his mind and now he’s worried how you might be feeling after the fact that his own Housewarden of all people wished you a happy birthday but not your freaking boyfriend.
But you can bet he’d be covering up his forgetful mind by acting his little heart out.
Oh, you were worried he forgot about your special day? Pfft, you’re crazy. He just wanted to surprise you because he just couldn’t wait to spend the whole day with his number 1 love.
On the inside, Ace does feel bad about forgetting your birthday. He knew if you did find out he almost let the day go by without seeing you, you would be hurt and he absolutely can’t have that. So, he swore to spend the entire day making it your day. Your rules, your choices, everything.
Any plans he made for that day were instantly canceled. Hangouts with Deuce, basketball club meetings, his turn to feed the flamingos, he's skipping everything. He’s at your beck and call, making sure you weren’t aware he would have gone the whole day without knowing. This redhead is making sure you know how important you are to him, no matter how much he messes up.
He doesn’t care about the possible teasing from other students or any accusations of being whipped. He’s the one sharing a special day with the most amazing person in the world, so jokes on them!
“Happy birthday, babe! Today’s your magical day so we’re doing whatever my baby wants, my treat”
To be fair, he did make considerations in advance to ensure that he would be free to spend your birthday together. He may be a busy model and actor, but that’s no excuse to be with those he loves most.
Unfortunately, his manager did not agree with that sentiment as they decided to schedule an interview with a popular news channel on your birthday. Vil was upset but what's done is done and it can't be cancelled with all the promotions and advertising out there about this upcoming interview.
You were bummed that Vil might not have time to spend with you but you understood how important this was for his career so you gave your support as always. Your birthday would have gone uncelebrated if not for Rook and Epel’s intervention.
This whole situation left Vil angry at his manager…and himself for not catching this on time. He’s also a little angry at you for undermining your own birthday, even for his sake.
He invited you onto the interview studio as his special visitor so the two of you could still be together as much as possible, and Vil made sure no one treats you any less than they would with him. His tone was polite but everyone at that studio knew he was serious with his “request”
“I hope that you would treat my guest with great care and respect. Any less would be rather insulting to me and will reflect poorly for any future projects”
Immediately after the interview, Vil would grab your hand and rush back to the college where he expects that Rook and Epel have set up the preparations for the birthday celebration as he requested. Whether it's a private dinner for two or a quiet self-care day in his room, Vil’s dead set on making that day all about you like it should have.
“This day isn’t about me or my career. This is your birthday and I intend on making sure you are treated as the fairest of them all on this day…and everyday”
I can’t imagine Jamil ever forgetting your birthday, he would never allow himself to make such a blunder like that. However, things don’t always go the way he hoped.
Kalim, true to his whimsical nature, decided today was a great day to have a party so he decided to host a grand feast, to Jamil’s dismay. But he’s hesitant to refuse the Asim heir so he quickly got to organizing the party’s food as always.
The sweetheart you are, decided to drop by to help him in the kitchen. Jamil’s having mixed feelings as he’s always happy to have you by his side but he doesn’t want to work on your birthday, especially for his sake. But you insisted you wouldn’t offer to help if you didn’t want to.
Still dissatisfied, Jamil decided that the party could be shifted somewhat. You watched with confused amusement over Jamil’s not-so subtle whispers over you working on your birthday.
“I apologise, my gem. I didn’t want your birthday to like this, working so hard alongside me like this”
“I would say it’s ok but I feel like you’re not really talking directly at me right now”
“Oh, if only I could give you the celebration you deserve”
Of course, the “whispers” were overheard and soon caught Kalim’s ears who was excited to hear about this. Whatever prior reason to party has immediately left the Housewarden’s mind “What? It’s your birthday, so let’s change the party! This is now a grand birthday feast!”
Whether you like it or not, you became the star of the party as Kalim pulled you over to the best seat in the dorms with food being offered to you on a literal silver platter. Jamil smiled from afar as he enjoyed watching the special treatment you’re getting. He assumed you were happy with the luxurious pampering courtesy of Kalim’s kind heart, not letting himself delve into his own insecurities of his inability to spoil you the way Kalim can. This was his plan, afterall.
Luckily for him, you never give him the chance to get lost into those doubts as you happily call him over, patting the seat right next to yours. Snuggling to his side, Jamil felt his heart race as you told him how all you wanted was to do today was spend the day with him, be it being treated like royalty or just cooking together in a kitchen.
Jamil wondered if you were aware of what a dangerous charmer you are.
“Happy birthday, my precious gem. A day spent dedicating to you is a day well spent”
Like Vil, he probably remembered your birthday was soon but his school life and his duties as a vice Housewarden jumbled his mind to the point he almost didn’t realize what day it was.
It wasn’t until Riddle told him that you would not be invited to the unbirthday party scheduled that day because well…it was actually your birthday. Trey nearly dropped the unbirthday cake he prepared when he realized what day it was.
His mind was in a tizzy. He tried to stay focused but he’s trying to estimate his time to make a cake for you once the unbirthday party is done and if he could still make your birthday special. Thankfully, Riddle was kind enough to dismiss him once his assistance was not needed at the party. The green-haired senior never ran that fast from a party.
Before the day ended, Trey managed to make a small cake to surprise you with at your dorm but he still felt a little guilty. I believe Trey is the type to tell you directly that he almost forgot your birthday rather than pretend.
You told him you understand. He’s a third year with a lot of responsibilities and you know how busy he gets. You might be sad not being able to spend your birthday with him the way you hope but life gets in the way. You were happy with just the cake and a visit from your beloved.
But Trey wasn’t satisfied with that. He may have gotten away with the bare minimum for most things and romance isn’t his forte but with you, that’s not good enough. Trey wants to take care of you, treat you special, give you all the attention you deserve without holding back. For you, going the extra mile and a half is worth it.
The green-haired student boldly went for a firm kiss on your lips, catching you by surprise. You felt your boyfriend take the lead by softly pushing you to the couch, sitting you down with him. Trey smirked down at your flustered face, fully intending to make the most of the day.
“It’s ok to be a little selfish, you know? It’s still your birthday, afterall”

Life has been absolutely crazy these past two weeks, so I'm hoping now that things have settled down, I can get back to working on chapters at a more regular schedule 🥴 If you're a Christmas girlie (gender neutral) like me, this chapter is for you, because even though it's only October, I really can't help myself (and like these two idiots celebrating Christmas together for the first time?! C'mon 🥺)

“So you’re leaving early today to do arts and crafts? That’s a new one.” Agent Miller snickered, leaning over his desk to slap his partner, Agent Carter, in amusement as they watched their boss begin to organize his desk and pack up his briefcase, already rolling his eyes in annoyance at the grief he was about to get from his co-workers for his early departure.
“I’m not the one doing the arts and crafts. I’m just going into her class to help, you idiot.” Javi sighed, glaring at Miller as he finished sorting the rest of his paperwork piles.
Last week, you had asked Javi if he would be able to come into your classroom one afternoon when he wasn't busy, to help with the project you were planning for your students to give to their parents as a Christmas gift before they left for winter break. You had quickly realized that for the sake of your sanity, what you had planned was nowhere near a one man job, and because it was a surprise gift for their families, you didn’t want to ask any parents to come into help. Javi had happily accepted, even with your adamant warnings of the case of Christmas Crazies your class had with only days left before winter break.
“…. To help do arts and crafts. Just callin’ a spade a spade here, Peña. Does that mean we’re gonna start having craft time here, too?” Miller and Carter chuckled to themselves, smirking at Javi, now slinging his briefcase over his shoulder, making his way out of his office.
“Listen, Miller. Give Peña all the shit you want, but I would way rather be cutting and gluing shit and throwing fist fulls of glitter in the air than working on these fucking reports.” Carter huffed, waving the file folder Miller was supposed to be working on in his face before throwing it back down on his desk.
“Fair enough.”
“I wouldn’t trust you dumbasses with scissors and glue if my life depended on it.” Javi groaned, raising an eyebrow at the pair before picking up one of the finished reports off of Carter’s desk, using it to point at the two on his way out. “These better be done by the time I get back tomorrow.”
“But I’m gonna need extra time to decorate them for you, Peña!” Miller grinned, he and Carter playfully swatting at each other in hysterics, Javi flipping them off as he headed out the door.
After his mom passed, Javi would have never thought Alma Pierce Elementary School would be a place that would hold any more relevance to him, let alone be a place that he would frequent, now that his future wife worked there. He couldn’t help but smile as he pulled into the parking lot, thinking about the joy it would have brought Lucia to see that her years of having Javi help her with her own classroom were still going to good use with you. He also couldn’t help but smile to himself as he grabbed the coffee sitting in his cup holder he had picked up for you on the way over from the station, also knowing his mom would have had some choice words to say to him if he showed up empty handed to your classroom.
After checking in with the office, he made the now familiar route down to your classroom, weaving through the tiny bodies patterning down the hallway, screeching and squealing with what had to be uncontrollable Christmas excitement. He gently tapped at your door before opening it, a grin growing across your face as you looked up from your desk as you saw your fiancé with an extra large cup of coffee in his hands at the doorway.
“Oh my god, you brought me coffee? I owe you my life, you are the best. Thank you.” The sigh you let out felt like the weight of the world lifted off your shoulders as you shot up to run over to Javi, giving him a big hug before snatching the cup out of his hands and taking a long swig of the caffeine you knew you were going to need to get you through the afternoon.
“I figured you could probably use it.” Javi chuckled, pressing a kiss into the top of your head before looking around, noticing that you were the only one in your room. “Where are the kids?”
“They’re at lunch, I was just about to leave to go pick them up. They’ve been absolute psychopaths today. I know it’s wrong to say I wanna drop kick a child out a window, but I’m real close.” You grumbled, taking another long sip of your coffee. “I don’t think I would have made it out alive today if you didn’t come in to help, so I apologize in advance for their behavior. I may or may not have told them that because you work for the police you keep track of what kids are well behaved or not to try and scare them a little.” You grimaced, knowing that the comment you had made earlier to your kids when you told them Javi was coming into help wasn’t the most ethical, but you were desperate for anything that would even remotely help control the chaos in your classroom with only 2 days left before winter break.
“Any kids in particular I need to be on the lookout for?” Javi asked, laughing to himself as you leaned over to set your coffee on your desk before heading towards the door to go pick up your class from the cafeteria.
“Oh… you’ll know them when you see them.”
You closed the door behind you, giving Javi a quick wink, leaving him alone in your classroom to wait for the arrival of the promised circus show that was your students. He wandered over to your desk, peeking through the piles of papers, sticky notes of to-do’s and drawings your students had given you. On the wall by your calendars, there was a photo of you and your family, 2 of you and Javi, and a note that he had written you one day and stuck in your lunch box, scribbled down in his rushed handwriting
Te amo mucho, hermosa. Have a great day.
-J
He thumbed gently at the wrinkled note, smiling to himself, still in awe of how the pieces of him seemed to follow you in everywhere you went. The sweet moment was quickly interrupted by the sounds of little voices bursting through the doorway, chattering away as they rushed to go sit on the carpet at the front of the room.
“Who’s that guy?!” A boy’s voice asked, pointing in Javi’s direction before balling up his body and doing a literal somersault across the carpet.
“It’s Mr. Peña! Do you not remember when our teacher told us before lunch that he was coming, dummy?” A girl’s voice responded, rolling her eyes at the boy, now laying face down on the floor. As more and more kids came over to the carpet, the more and more voices began to chime in.
“Don’t call him a dummy, Angela, that’s mean!”
“Well he is!”
“Why does that guy have a mustache?”
“My uncle has a mustache!”
“When are we going home?”
“Miguel tried to kick me in the nuts at recess!”
“I did not!”
You buried your hands in your face, letting out a deep sigh, shaking your head before looking back at Javi, quietly mouthing “I’m so sorry.” across the room before making your way to the front of the class.
“If you can hear me, clap once.”
3 or 4 half hearted claps followed over the chatter.
“If you can hear me, clap twice.”
More students began to join in, curious to see that Javi was now also following your directions.
“If you can hear me, put your hands on your head and turn off your voice.”
Finally, the volume of your room began to ease, all of your students, and Javi, quietly looking at you with their hands resting on top of their heads.
“Okay, 3rd graders. Right now, we are going to work on our holiday presents for our grownups we’ve been talking about all week. Remember how I told you this morning that we have someone special coming in to help today?” The class nodded, eyes glued on Javi. “This is Mr. Peña. Can you guys say hi?”
“Hi, Mr. Peña!” The class waved at him, Javi now smiling and waving back at them.
“Mr. Peña is taking time out of his day to come help us with our project, so we need to show him what a respectful, responsible and safe class we are, okay? If we can follow directions and everyone gets their project done, then we will have time for extra recess at the end of the day.” Javi snickered at the silent grins and high-fives on the carpet in hopes of bonus time outside. “Once you glue your picture on your plate to make your snowglobe, you can come see me to put the snowflakes inside, and then take it over to Mr. Peña and he’s going to hot glue it for you.”
A tiny hand quickly shot up, waving it back and forth. “No, Miguel. You cannot use the hot glue gun. It’s a grownup's only job.” You tried your best not to roll your eyes as Miguel frowned and put his hand back in his lap, knowing damn well he would be one to try and hot glue his hands together. “Do we have any questions before we start?” Almost all of your class’s hands shot up immediately, all beaming at Javi, frantically wiggling their arms in the air. You laughed to yourself, knowing that none of them had any questions about the project, and just wanted to talk to Javi. “Are these all just questions for Mr. Peña?” The class nodded, now squirming in their spots. “Okay, we can do 3 questions right now, and maybe if we have time at the end we can ask him some more questions. Is that okay, Mr. Peña?”
“Uh, yeah. Yeah, sure.” Javi smiled, trying his best to keep from smirking at you and your teacher voice that seemed to be having a much stronger effect on him than he had intended.
“Okay, Mr. Peña is going to pick 3 people who are sitting on their bottom and are waiting quietly and patiently for a turn.” You couldn’t help but smirk back at him as he stepped next to you on the front of the carpet, nervously running his thumb over his knuckles to prepare for his interrogation from 8 and 9 year olds. He pointed over to a girl at the back of the group, nodding to her to ask whatever was on her mind.
“So you’re marrying our teacher? Do you love her? Have you ever kissed her before?” The entire class erupted with giggles as Javi’s face went red with embarrassment.
“Uh, yeah. I love her a lot and that’s why we’re getting married.” Javi leaned over to whisper in your ear as the kids continued to snicker. “Am I allowed to answer the last part?”
“We’re not gonna talk about kissing at school, okay, Maya?” You laughed, giving Javi a little nudge as he pointed to the next student, picking a boy this time, in hopes that he wouldn’t have intense questions about his love life.
“Our teacher said that you work at the police station. Have you ever arrested anyone? Do you catch bad guys?” One of the boys asked, the rest of the class leaning in with intrigue. Javi rubbed his hand over the back of his neck, trying to maneuver another hard hitting question.
“Well I uh, I help train the guys who catch the bad guys, I don’t actually go out and catch them.”
“SO YOU DON’T THROW PEOPLE IN JAIL?!” Miguel shouted out, barely letting Javi answer his question.
“I’m gonna throw you in jail, Miguel…” you muttered under your breath, hiding your face behind Javi’s shoulder, the both of you trying to contain your laughter.
“No, I don’t. Uh okay, last one.” He pointed to another girl who had been patiently waiting with her hand raised the entire time Javi had been sharing.
“One time, my grandpa punched my dad in the face, and they kept punching and punching and so then my mom called the police, and then he had to go to jail and my Grandpa kept yelling you motherfu-.”
“OKAY, on that note we’re gonna start with our projects, everything is already on your desks. Come see me for snowflakes and Mr. Peña for gluing both pieces together.” Your eyes widened in horror, jumping in to try and cut her off before she could finish the rest of her thought. It had thankfully seemed like the rest of the class had been oblivious, racing back to their desks to work on their projects. You pinched the bridge of your nose before rubbing your fingers against your temples, trying not to wither away from the embarrassment your class had decided to subject you to with their questions for Javi.
“... I am so sorry.” You sighed, shaking your head as you looked over at Javi, trying his best to keep from laughing at the antics your class was already up to before they had even started working on their project.
“Is this what it’s like every day?” Javi’s eyes widened as he looked out at the classroom, already overwhelmed by the noise and bodies moving everywhere.
“It’s normally not this bad, I swear I’m a good teacher. With it being 2 days before break, as long as everyone makes it home alive, I’m calling it a win. Thank you again for coming to help, Jav. You okay to man the hot glue station?”
“Of course, Osita.” He smiled, giving your hand a little squeeze.
“Miguel will legitimately try to glue his hands together, so just be… extra careful when he comes around.”
You couldn’t have been more thankful that Javi had agreed to help you with your project, because passing out confetti snowflakes alone was enough to make you lose your mind, let alone try and glue things together, too. Through the chaos, you and Javi found yourself exchanging quick glances, quietly laughing to yourself at the craziness. You couldn’t help but stare a little longer as you watched Javi your students, patiently helping each of them, listening to them share about who they were planning on giving their handmade gift to, complementing them on their work, and carefully monitoring to make sure no one (especially Miguel) got too close to the hot glue gun. You’d be lying if you said it ever got old watching how goddamn sweet he was with any kid he talked to, making your heartbeat a little faster at the thought of how much sweeter he’d be when it was one of your own.
By some miracle, everyone had finished with their gift before it was time for gym, glady sending them on their way to go burn off some excessive energy to help you through the last few hours of the day. Javi’s mom had clearly trained him well, coming back to find him helping to clean up the leftover mess from your crafts after dropping your class off.
“You don’t have to help clean up, Jav. You’ve already done more than enough.” You sighed, sitting yourself on top of the desk Javi was next to, reaching out to grab his hand.
“Osita. If this is what you do every fucking day all day long, the least I can help you do is clean up. Jesus Christ, this was fucking exhausting.”
“Well, I really threw you into the worst of it, so I apologize. Thank you again for helping. The kids really liked you. They kept asking the whole way to gym when you were going to come back. I told them when they stopped acting like a pack of wild monkeys, maybe you’ll consider.” You and Javi laughed, Javi gently resting his hand on your knee, thumb circling against your jeans.
“I’ll come back any time, Hermosa. Getting to watch my hot, future wife kick ass at her job is way better than having to harp on Carter and Miller to run the reports I ask them to every goddamn day. I’m more than happy to stay if you need more help, but I figured since I took the rest of the afternoon off, and I have a genuine appreciation for a fraction of how fucking hard your job is, I would go home and make whatever you want for dinner and finish up shit around the apartment so we can spend tonight doing whatever you want.” You smiled up at Javi, reaching your hand under his chin, pulling it closer to you to plant a quick kiss on his lips.
“Someone’s really trying to make sure they make their place on the Nice List before Christmas.” You smirked, raising an eyebrow at Javi, crossing your arms over your chest.
“You deserve it all, Osita. It’s seriously the least I can do. Although, the things I wanna do to you later are definitely gonna end me up on the Naughty List.” He gripped his hand around the meat of your thigh, giving it a long squeeze as he placed a tender kiss on your lips, trying to use every ounce of self control to remember he was still at your work, let alone an elementary school where an 8 year old could come busting through the door at any moment.
“You’re such a fucking dork. You’re lucky I love you so much.” You rolled your eyes, playfully swatting at him. “Thank you, Jav. You really are the best. Can we do breakfast for dinner?”
“I had a feeling that was what you were gonna ask for.”
“Breakfast is the superior food at all hours of the day, and no one can convince me otherwise.”
“Pancakes or waffles?”
“Surprise me.”
You pecked a quick kiss onto Javi’s cheek before sliding off the desk, wrapping your arms around him, giving him a hug, pressing your face into the fabric of his dress shirt, savoring the familiarity of his sweet and spicy cologne that had become the scent that smelled like home. “Alright, as much as I don’t want you to leave, I probably should be a good teacher and print the rest of the things I need and salvage a survival plan for the next two days before the gremlins get back.”
“I’ll see you at home, Hermosa. Love you”
“Love you too.”
With one last squeeze, and a wave as he headed out the door, Javi left you in your empty classroom, looking out at the disaster left in your student’s wake. Christmas couldn’t come fast enough.
Anything that you had planned for the afternoon had quickly gone out the window after your class had returned from gym, your plans for an extra long recess turning into an even longer recess, and part of a movie before sending the kids on their way home. Some way or another, you were able to drag yourself home, the promise of breakfast food keeping you afloat the entirety of your drive home.
As you walked down the hallway of your apartment, you could hear the quick pops and sizzles of the bacon Javi was cooking over the muffled Christmas music in the background. Turning your key in the lock on the doorknob, you pushed the door open, immediately dropping your school bag and kicking off your shoes, practically falling to the floor from exhaustion. Before you could even turn around to greet Javi, you felt his arms reaching under your legs and around your shoulders, making you squeal as he scooped you up, carrying you across the entry way towards the living room.
“Hi?” You laughed, looking up at Javi in confusion as to why you had barely made it 2 feet into your apartment before he was picking you up and carrying you away.
“Hi.” He smiled down at you, giving you a little shake in his grip.
“Can I ask why you’re carrying me? Am I not allowed to walk anymore?” You guestrued down at the ground, watching your legs dangle with each step Javi took.
“Because you work harder than anyone I know, and after today, if I’m fucking tired, you must be fucking exhausted, and my amazing, beautiful future wife deserves to relax.”
He paused, tilting his head down to give you a kiss before turning his body the opposite direction. You had been so focused on Javi as he carried you from the doorway, you hadn’t even realized what was set up in the living room until he had shifted his position, facing you towards it. You looked over to see a blanket fort built between the ends of the couch, TV paused and ready to watch “It’s A Wonderful Life”, and the Christmas tree the two of you had decorated together lit up and twinkling, casting warm shadows on the walls. “Pajamas are in there, so change, lay down and I’m bringing you breakfast while we watch the movie.”
You could feel the tears welling in your eyes as you looked out at the living room and back up at Javi. “Javi, you didn’t have to-”
“I know, I didn’t have to do anything. I wanted to. I know how much you love Christmas and how we haven’t done much to celebrate since you’ve been busy with work, so I wanted to do something for you.” A grin grew across Javi’s face, watching your jaw hang open in shock as he set you down, letting you go over to examine his blanket creation. You stood there, shaking your head in disbelief, wondering to yourself how the hell you had gotten so lucky that someone cared enough about you to make you dinner after a long day, let alone plan something special for you, even if it was just in your living room. Before you could even respond, Javi was heading back to the kitchen to turn off the beeping timer of the oven, gesturing over to the fort. “I’ll be in there in a second.”
“Javi, you set this all up for me, at least let me help with dinner or-”
“Osita. Go put on pajamas and lay down. I swear to God, you’re the only person I’ve ever met that needs more convincing to go sit and relax than get up and do things.” He laughed, pointing at the covered couch, demanding you to get in. You held your hands up in defense before kneeling down to peek under the blankets Javi had draped over the top to see your comforter, all the pillows and blankets you owned, and your favorite sweatshirt and sweatpants of Javi’s folded neatly on top of everything. You quickly stood back up, unzipping and shuffling out of your jeans, trading them out for the sweatpants before stripping yourself of your shirt and bra, peeking around the corner to see Javi biting down on his bottom lip, eyes glued to you as you slipped his sweatshirt over your head.
“I should have known better than to think you would have put out clothes for me to change into for any other reason than your own selfish gain, Javier Peña.” You jabbed, Javi shrugging as he grabbed two plates of the breakfast that he had finished cooking, bringing them back over to you.
“Me? Wanting to watch you change on purpose, knowing damn well you were gonna take your bra off before you put my sweatshirt on? I don’t know what you’re talking about, Osita.” He smirked, a devilish grin growing across his face as he ducked into the fort, giving you a quick wink.
“You? Wanting to see my boobs? Yeah, you’re right, how silly of me.” You groaned, voice oozing with sarcasm as you followed him, snuggling yourself under a blanket as Javi handed a plate over to you. “In all seriousness, this is really sweet of you, Javi. Thank you. Didn’t picture you as a big blanket fort kind of guy.” You giggled, giving him a little nudge.
“I would make them all the time when I was little. Especially with my mom. I’d play with Hot Wheels in there, or my mom would read with me- I don’t know, maybe it’s from being with you at school today, and thinking about her, but I got home and thought you’d like it. You seem like someone who made their fair share of blanket forts as a kid.” Javi’s face beamed with a soft smile, the dimples of his cheeks creasing as he grinned over at you.
“That’s really sweet. She sounds like she was the best mom. That’s a lot sweeter than my memories of building forts. My brothers and I had a pretty much permanent one set up in the basement made from old hockey sticks, but it was referred to in our house as Pound Town. We would go in and beat the shit out of each other with pillows until it collapsed on us and we’d have to pause, try to build it again, and beat the shit out of each other with pillows as we argued about if we were building it right or not. My parents let it slide because we weren’t annoying them, until one day when Patrick and I got in a huge fight about which couch cushions to use and he took one of the hockey sticks and hit me in the face and gave me a black eye. Pound Town was no more after that.” You grimaced, taking a bite of one of the chocolate chip pancakes Javi had put on your plate.
“I’m pretty sure at this point, you could tell me that you and your brothers robbed a bank and I wouldn’t be surprised.”
“We were always well behaved during December, though. My parents definitely played into the threat of being on the naughty list as soon as Thanksgiving was over. At least they got a few weeks of peace each year. I honestly think that my parents were just as excited for Christmas movies as we were, because it at least gave them an hour and a half of semi-silence.” You laughed, nodding your head towards the TV.
“I’m gonna be honest, Osita. I don’t blame them.” You sighed, leaning your head against Javi’s chest, feeling it rise and fall with each small huff of laughter. “We don’t have to watch “It’s a Wonderful Life” either, I just know you said you liked it and we didn’t get to watch it yet.”
“No, this is a perfect pick. It’s one of my favorites. You wanna start it?” Reaching over for the remote, you smiled at Javi as he nodded, pressing play as the title credits began rolling across the screen. Javi had quickly come to learn that if you liked a movie, not only were you willing to watch it a million times, you knew just about every line, like you were putting on a one man production of whatever it was you were watching. Although you always quoted everything to yourself under your breath, something about it made Javi’s heart melt, spending more time looking over at you, whispering the lines of the movie to yourself, rather than watching whatever was on the screen. In between bites of breakfast, Javi watched your cheeks turn rosy as you watched a little George and Mary on the screen, eating ice cream at the drugstore, Mary leaning down to whisper in George’s ear. Javi had only seen the movie a handful of times, knowing it nowhere near as well as you, but well enough to know the line you mouthed to yourself wasn’t quite right.
“Javier Peña, I’ll love you ‘till the day I die.”
The two of you munched away at the rest of your breakfast dinner, Javi taking both of your empty plates back to the kitchen before nestling back under the blankets, wrapping his arm around your shoulder as you laid your head against his chest. Now watching George and Mary throw stones through the windows of the old, abandoned house, making wishes of what they hoped their lives to be, you snuggled closer to Javi, draping your arm over his waist, twisting the ends of his t-shirt between your fingers.
“I can’t believe they’re actually gonna start building the house in a few weeks.” You looked up at Javi, beaming with excitement. After Javi’s proposal, both to be his wife and to build the two of you your dream home, you both had been working to draft up and finalize plans for construction to physically start happening. All of the design process had been smooth sailing so far, you and Javi easily agreeing on things you wanted for the house- layouts, designs, sizing- the only thing that was stopping you from moving forward with progress was deciding how many bedrooms the house was going to have.
“Not too late to tell Danny we need to add another bedroom.” Javi teased, gently squeezing your arm.
“I think 5 bedrooms is plenty, Mr. Ambitious. If we have more than 4 kids, we might as well add enough rooms to house a baseball team.”
“I’ll give you a football team’s worth of kids, if you want it.”
“I know you would, but you’re not the one who has to push a football team’s worth of kids out of you.” You laughed, playfully swatting at Javi before he wrapped his arm around the small of your back, flipping you so that your chest was caged with his, bodies laying pressed against each other.
“I’m happy with 1 kid or 10. Whatever you want, Osita, I’ll give it to you.” Javi smiled softly, brushing a stray piece of hair from your face before cupping your jaw in his palm, thumb delicately circling across your skin.
“What if I want you?” You whispered, stretching your head up to nibble at his chin, planting kisses along his face and neck, each one more desperate and hungry than the last.
“You have me, Hermosa. Forever.” He reached down, grabbing your left hand, carefully twisting the gold and diamond band around your finger in his. It wasn’t long before his hand had left yours, beginning to roam down your shoulders and back before slipping under the waistband of your sweatpants, grabbing handfuls of your ass as you pressed the weight of your hips further into his, feeling his bulge starting to grow underneath you. Working his hands back up around your hips, he pushed your sweatpants and underwear down your legs, slightly raising your lower half to help Javi strip them off your body, leaving your lower half exposed. Javi’s grip tightened around your thighs, suddenly locking his arms around them, scooting you closer to him, now sitting on his chest.
“Javi, what are you-” You protested, taking a second to realize what Javi was prompting you to do.
“Wanna take care of you, sweet girl.” He rasped, continuing to pull you closer towards him, now sitting on him near his collarbone, as he cut you off.
“Are you sure, Jav?” You asked, biting down on your lip, looking down at Javi, lust pooling in the dark brown of his gaze, a devilish smirk stretching across his lips. “I’m always worried I’m gonna suffocate you when we do this.”
“I’m still alive, aren’t I? Baby, if I die between your thighs from you sitting on my face, I’ll die a fucking happy man. Please?”
“Okay, okay.” You nodded, letting out a little, breathy laugh as Javi tugged you one last time, your already dripping heat hovering over his face. You began to slowly lower yourself down, Javi’s fingertips gripping the flesh of your hips, forcing you to shift your weight onto him, making you moan as you felt his strong nose brush against your clit. You could feel the width of his tongue dragging along your cunt, slowly and deliberately working himself along your sensitive bundle of nerves. His face nestled between your legs, he took his time with each lick, taking extra time to press harder on the spots he knew made you weak, loving how wrecked he could tell you already were as you rolled your hips over his face. You could practically feel his smirk buried in your pussy as the movements of his tongue became more precise, flicking at your clit making you whimper as you braced yourself on the edge of the couch, grasping at the cushions.
“Javi… Fuck, oh my god.” You whined, feeling the tension begin to build in your belly as Javi wrapped his plush lips around your mound, sucking feverishly as you rocked your hips back and forth, grinding down harder, the hairs of his mustache brushing against your thighs. You could feel him hum in approval against your cunt as your back began to arch, a familiar tingle growing at the base of your spine as his mouth latched firmer around your clit, desperate to make you come undone.
“Fuck, baby- oh shit- Javi, don’t stop, fuck, fuck, I’m so close. Fuck, I’m- mhhhmmmmmm.” Your orgasm crashed through you, pleasure overtaking your body as you came, whimpering and moaning Javi’s name as he dug his fingers deeper into your flesh, holding you against him as he continued to work you through your high. Your body went slack, draping your upper half over the edge of the couch as you felt Javi scoot out from under you, looking down to see his face glistening in your slick, accompanied by a boyish grin as he wiped his mouth with the back of his hand as he gazed back up at you.
“Goddamn, Hermosa. Fucking soaked me. That feel good, pretty girl? You want more?” You nodded frantically at him, still at a loss for words as your chest heaved with each shaky breath. Gently grabbing your waist, he shifted you down so your back laid buried in the comforters and head rested against a pile of pillows, planting soft kisses down your body as he quickly pushed his sweatpants and boxers down his legs, freeing his painfully hard cock, its tip already dripping with precum, staining the fabric of the pants and underwear it had been straining against. He reached down, stroking his dick as he lined himself up with your entrance, running his tip through your folds, already soaked with your slick from your last orgasm, before slowly pressing inside you, letting you savor every inch of his length buried deep inside you. His hips flushed against yours as he bottomed out, his fullness stretching you open with the sweet sting that had become one of your favorite feelings in the world. “Always so wet for me, Osita. Fuck, I can’t believe this perfect fucking pussy is mine forever. You’re mine forever.” He mewled, slowly pulling himself back before pressing deep inside you again, each stroke making you feel even fuller than the last.
“Forever.” You whispered back, your voice trembling as his cock pushed further into your cunt, practically hearing the lewd noises of wetness between the both of you as he thrusted in and out. Sitting back on his heels, Javi hooked his arms under your legs, pressing them to your chest, gently rubbing circles against your already throbbing clit before sinking back into you, the stretch of the new angle and added sensation of his fingers making you whine as your arms wrapped around his shoulders, fingernails digging into your back. “Fuck, Javi. You feel so big, fuck, it feels so good.”
“Fuck me.” Javi hissed, the rhythm of his hips hitting yours beginning to become more rapid and desperate as he watched you writhe under him. “You’re fucking perfect, Osita. Gonna be a perfect wife, a perfect mom, fuck- I can’t wait to marry you, live in our house- oh shit- Fill it with our kids. Fuck, te lo daré todo (I’ll give you everything).”
Everything was making your mind go blank- his words, his fingers rubbing against your clit, his cock pounding into you, over and over in the spot that had you seeing stars. The coil in your belly began to build as Javi buried his face in the nape of your neck, nipping and sucking at your pulse point, his words hot and heavy on your skin. You could feel your cunt beginning to clench tighter around his length, your heart beating fast as your orgasm began to build with each push and pull out of your heat. “I know you’re close, baby. Give it to me, Hermosa. Cum all over my cock. Gonna fuck myself so deep inside you, shit, can’t wait until I can fuck a baby into you, wish I could make myself stick, fucking get you pregnant right now.”
Just like that, something inside you snapped, your body tensing as you felt yourself squeeze around Javi’s dick, soaking him as your orgasm ripped through you. A string of expletives and his name fell from your mouth, your brain short circuiting from the overwhelming intensity, sobbing into his shoulder as you came. It wasn’t long until Javi was close behind you, rapidly chasing his own high as he pounded into your heat, dripping with your slick. “That’s it, baby. Such a good girl. Fuck, I’m not gonna last much longer. Meirda- so wet and tight for me. Oh fuck, fuck, I’m gonna cum too, holy- ahhhhhhh.” Javi gritted his teeth as he thrusted one last time, spilling deep in your walls, making sure to milk himself of every last drop as he slumped on top of you, your chests rising and falling in unison as you tried to catch your breath.
“Jesus Christ…” You laughed to yourself under your breath, reaching up to run your hand through Javi’s curls, dark and damp as they stuck to his forehead. “Javi, if you keep saying shit like that when we fuck, I am gonna end up pregnant before we get married.”
“And that would be a bad thing because…” Javi smirked, pressing a tender kiss against your lips, feeling his grin on your mouth.
“Javi!” You giggled, rolling your eyes and playfully swatting at his bare chest as he hovered over you, gently twisting his fingers through the messy ends of your hair. “We have talked about this! Once we’re married and the house is all the way finished, then I’ll toss my birth control in the trash. But until then, you’re really making it work unpaid overtime, you menace. I hate to break it to you, but keeping your dick inside me isn’t gonna do anything for you right now.”
“Like you don’t like it.” He chuckled, the both of you letting out a little hiss at the loss of Javi being buried inside you, feeling the mixture of your spend drip down your thighs as he laid back down next to you, wrapping his arm around your back, pulling you closer as you rested your head on his chest, hiking your leg up over his hip. “I’m just saying, Osita, Christmas is only a few days away, you could just throw it away early and-”
“JAVI!” You scolded him, giggling as he raised an eyebrow at you, giving a little shrug. “You will get plenty of other presents. That one’s gonna have to wait, as much as I don’t want to either. The house should be done right around the same time as the wedding anyways, so you won’t even have to wait that long.”
The two of you had very easily decided that you didn’t want a big wedding by any means, bringing Chucho endless amounts of joy when you had asked him if you could have your celebration at the Peña ranch. The thought was the first thing that came to both you and Javi’s minds- something small and simple, really only wanting your close friends and family to join you on your big day in a place that held such importance to the both of you. While you and Javi had agreed that you would have married each other tomorrow, you had compromised with the middle of June, giving you a few weeks after the school year had finished to let you have some time to prep or plan anything else that needed to happen, without the end of the year school stressors on top of it.
After working with Javi’s cousin, Danny, (who finally received your finalized floor plans a few days ago after finally compromising on your bedroom count), he was able to guess that given that the winter was normally less busy for him and his crew, he would also hopefully have the house done by mid to late June, planning to have the majority of the work completed after you came back from your Honeymoon, you and Javi offering to finish up any last touches that he wouldn’t be able to get to after you returned.
While the both of you had agreed that you would wait until you were married before your birth control prescription was canceled, never to be seen again, you managed to talk some sense into Javi, telling him the house needed to be finished before you started trying, God forbidding that something went wrong, leaving you who knows how pregnant in an unfinished house. Regardless, it hadn’t stopped Javi from the moment that ring went on your finger to play into just how badly he was ready to give you the family you deserved, making it very hard for the both of you to stick to your plan.
“I know, I know.” He sighed contently, picking your arm up, draping it over his chest so he could play with the ring on your finger, delicately thumbing at the stone and gold band. “Knowing I get to spend the rest of my life with you is the only fucking Christmas present I’ll ever need for the rest of my life.”
“You’re really trying to make your way back onto the Nice List, huh?” You giggled, biting down on your lip as you reached up to grab Javi’s face, giving it a little shake. “You’re all I’ll ever need, too, Javi.” A cheeky smirk spread across your face as you looked up at Javi, pressing a hot kiss against the skin of his neck before you spoke. “I gotta shower and clean this mess up, you wanna come with me and hang out on the Naughty List just a little bit longer?”
“I’d take coal in my stocking any fucking day for you.”
Someway or another, you managed to make it through the last two days of school, bribing your class with more play time, recess, and movies than you’d like to admit. You and Javi were planning to spend the second half of your break with your family in Chicago, giving you two a few days to celebrate your first Christmas in Laredo together, now that you were on break. You had agreed to spend Christmas Eve celebrating with Chucho, the 3 of you gathering at the Peña ranch in the afternoon, offering to help Javi’s dad with chores around the farm since he had graciously given everyone else the day off to spend with their families. It took no convincing on your end to go out and help Javi feed the animals, one of your favorite chores on the farm, especially when it came to the cows.
“I can’t believe how big they are.” You cooed, scratching one of the not so baby cows you had met for the first time a few months ago along its nose, giggling as it gave you a little lick.
“They don’t stay little and cute for very long.” Javi chuckled, throwing the last bale of hay over the fence into one of the troughs, wiping his hands along his plaid shirt before resting his arm around your waist, standing next to you as you continued scratching and petting the rest of the cows that had gathered looking for attention.
“Excuse you? They are still incredibly cute! Apologize to these sweet babies!” You gasped dramatically, holding your hand over your chest as you swatted at Javi.
“Hermosa, they’re cows. They’re loud and annoying once they’re full grown, and last time I checked, I don’t think they can understand what I’m saying.” He laughed as you looked back at him with fake disgust, taking a step back, crossing your arms over your chest. Before you could argue back, one of the cows let out a long, loud mooooo, pointed in Javi’s direction, turning to look back at the cow before looking back at Javi.
“I think that’s cow for fuck you, I am cute.” You smirked, giving Javi a little shrug as you nodded back at the cow.
“Whatever, you dork.” Javi sighed, rolling his eyes at you as the two of you grabbed the rest of the feed buckets, heading back to the truck.
The two of you finished your rounds and you and Javi made your way back to the house to find Chucho humming away in the kitchen, chopping and dicing up vegetables to throw into his simmering pot of broth for the Pozole he had promised Javi for their Christmas Eve meal.
“Chucho, do you think that cows are cute?” You questioned, kicking off your shoes at the door, Javi following behind, shaking his head. Chucho chuckled to himself, wiping his hands along his worn apron before picking up his wooden spoon to stir his stew.
“Why are you asking?” He asked, looking over at you as you made your way into the kitchen, popping a leftover piece of pepper into your mouth, talking between chews.
“Because your son doesn’t think they are, and had the audacity to tell the cows to their face they were, in fact, not cute.” You glared over at Javi, trying to hold back your laughter as you pretend to be stern.
“They’re cute when they’re little but once you have to deal with them every day, full grown, they’re a pain in the ass.” Javi sighed, following behind you, sneaking between you and his dad to take down some bowls out of the cabinet, setting them on the table.
“That is because Javier never pays attention when he walks through the pasture, and always ends up with a boot full of cow shit. I think they are cute, Mija. Not as cute as some other animals, or as cute as human babies…” He paused, raising an eyebrow at the two of you, smirking. “But yes, still cute.”
“Told you so. You can’t blame the cows for your shit shoes, that’s on you, Jav.” You giggled, hitting him in the chest before grabbing spoons and napkins to set down next to the bowls Javi had placed. “Do you need help with anything else, Chucho? It smells delicious, I’m glad your cow bashing son requested it tonight.”
“Cabrón (asshole).” Javi groaned. “Mamá would always make pozole and tamales for everyone on Christmas eve. She would put all of the cousins to work kneading the dough and assembling the tamales. She would hold the piñata hostage until we helped her finish, which I can’t blame her for. Her tamales were delicious, but I always think about having her pozole and eating a shit load of candy before crashing on the couch trying to stay up, waiting for Santa when I think about Christmas.”
“Before Lucia died, every year we would host our whole family here for Christmas eve. Dios Mio, there must have been 30 crammed in here each year, singing and dancing, making more tamales than anyone could count. No matter how hard he tried, Javier would always be the first to fall asleep on the couch, and we would have to carry him to bed. I think he would get so excited he would wear himself out.” Chucho smiled, turning off the stove, bringing the pot of the pozole to the kitchen table, the two of you pulling out a chair to take a seat.
“She sounds like she was such a fun lady. I wish I could have met her. And eaten her tamales, because I bet that they were amazing.” You beamed, looking over at Chucho and Javi, Javi now settling into the seat next to you, draping his arm over the back of your chair as Chucho stayed standing, letting out a content sigh as he placed a hand on his hip.
“Well Mija, I was planning on giving your Christmas gift to you later, but now that you bring it up, now seems as good a time as any.” Chucho smirked, waddling his way over to the living room, as you and Javi glanced at each other in confusion, waiting for his return. A few moments later, Chucho was back, carrying a small, red package with a white ribbon wrapped around it, outstretching it towards you.
“Chucho, you didn’t have to get me anything, I-” You protested, not accepting the gift until Chucho was sliding it across the table, placing it right in front of you.
“It is a gift for both of you. I know that Lucia would have been so thrilled to know how happy you have made our Javier. How happy you have made both of our lives. She would have loved you so dearly, hija, and would have wanted you to have these as you and Javier start your own family.” Tears welled behind Chucho’s eyes as you carefully took the package in your hands, resting it between you and Javi as the both of you gently ripping away the wrapping paper and bow to reveal what was inside Chucho’s gift. You held a small, leather bound book between you two, Chucho gesturing to have you open it to see what was inside. As you flipped back the cover, you revealed the first page, a picture of a young Lucia in the very same kitchen the 3 of you found yourself in, smiling at the camera as she stirred a pot of something on the stove, apron tied around her waist. Below the photo were bold, shaky cursive letters, reading “Lucia’s Recipes.”
“Pops…” Javi whispered in shock, delicately touching the page, gazing up at his dad.
“Your mamá would have wanted you to have all of them. She always told me that she couldn’t wait for the day she could have a daughter to share all of her cooking secrets with. She would have been even more excited to share them with you Mija, knowing the wonderful woman that you are.”
Carefully turning the page, you could feel your lip quiver as you looked at Chucho, feeling how watery your eyes were now becoming. “Chucho, this is- I don’t- thank you, Chucho. This is so special. I’m honored you want them to share them, I- I know how important these are to your family.”
“You are family, hija.” Handing the book off to Javi, you pushed up out of your chair, making your way over to Chucho to wrap him in a tight hug, Chucho quickly reciprocating, squeezing you back.
“Thank you, Chucho.” You whispered into his shoulder, trying your best to keep from sobbing as Javi pushed out of his chair, joining the both of you in a group hug, holding the two people he loved most in the world in his broad grasp.
“Thanks, Pops.”
“Los amo a los dos (I love you both).” Chucho sniffed, pulling away to wipe away the tears streaming down his cheeks. “Now, let’s eat this pozole, I can hear Lucia yelling at me for letting it start to go cold.”
The 3 of you spent the rest of your night full of pozole, Javi finishing off at least 3 bowls as you talked at the kitchen table, sharing stories of your favorite holiday traditions and memories. Chucho broke out at least 4 different photo albums to share photos of Christmases past, filled with lots of ones of an adorable Javi and his bright, toothy grin as he opened up presents. Chucho was thrilled with the present you and Javi had gotten for him- a new work jacket for out on the ranch, Javi noting that he probably was still wearing the same jacket he did when Javi was first born.
You and Javi had insisted that you let Chucho help you clean up around the kitchen after making you dinner, practically having to force him to sit down in his chair to relax while the two of you got to work collecting and cleaning dishes in the sink. You got to work washing as Javi dried, taking time to turn on the radio in the kitchen, raising the volume as he tuned in to the local station that had been playing nothing but Christmas music for the past week. “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” began playing from the speakers, immediately beginning to sing along, swaying your hips, scrubbing the last of the pots and pans. Javi snuck up behind you, snaking his hands around your waist, placing a soft kiss on your shoulder as his chest pressed against your back.
“Dance with me.” He whispered, placing his hands on your hips to spin you around, making you giggle as your sponge splashed in the sink, playfully drying your wet hands against his flannel before interlacing one of your hands with his, the other one resting on his shoulder as he wrapped his free hand around the small of your back. The two of you gently swayed in the dim light of the kitchen, the soft sounds of Frank Sinatra’s voice humming in the background.
Here we are as in olden days, happy golden days of yore. Faithful friends who are dear to us, gather near to us once more.
As the sweet and syrupy melody of the song played on, Javi held up his hand, prompting you to spin under his outstretched arm before pulling you back in, resting his hand on your back, the other holding your face as he dipped you down, his lips curled in a tender grin against yours as he leaned in to kiss you.
Through the years, we all will be together, if the fates allow. Hang a shining star upon the highest bough. And have yourself a merry little Christmas now.
“I love you, Osita.”
“I love you more, you dork.”
You rested your head on his chest, smiling into the worn fabric of his button up, soaking up the sweet simplicity of the moment- how right then and there, it felt like there was no one in the world but the two of you, slow dancing in Chucho’s kitchen, arms wrapped tight around the man you loved. It felt like holding everything you’d ever need. Everything you’d ever want. It felt like holding your home.
If there was one thing you were not, it was patient, especially when it came to waiting. You never had been, and at this point in your life, you were very much convinced you never would be. Ever since you could remember, you were always the first one up in your house on Christmas, frantically waking up your parents and brothers to let them know presents were stacked under the tree at an ungodly hour, forcing your parents to implement the “If you don’t stay in your bed until 6 A.M. you won’t get any of your presents” rule to try and save some ounce of their sanity for the chaos that ensued after the 4 of you were really wide awake. Even as an adult, you couldn’t help but wake up giddy on Christmas, feeling as bright eyed and bushy tailed as you did all those years ago as a kid. While Javi was very aware of your love for Christmas, he wasn’t aware of the fact that it meant that you would be wide awake, waiting for him to wake up this early in the morning.
“Merry Christmas!” You squealed, trying your best to contain your excitement as you watched Javi finally begin to stir, his sleepy curls peeking out from under the covers, eyes squinting and blinking heavily as he let out a big yawn, draping his arm over your waist, half awake.
“Good morning.” He grumbled, rubbing his hand over his face, practically still asleep. “What time is it?”
“6:45…” You replied, grimacing sheepishly, wincing at the early hours plastered on your alarm clock. “You can go back to sleep if you want to, sorry if I woke you up.”
“6:45? Jesus, how long have you already been up for, Osita?” He sighed, propping himself up on his elbows, running his hands through the messy ends of his hair.
“Not that long…” You muttered, looking away from him, hoping it would deter him interrogating further. Javi said nothing- he only cocked his head to the side and stared with that look he gave you when he knew you were hiding something, knowing damn well his tired, puppy dog eyes would pull the truth out of you. “Fine…” You huffed, turning back to him. “I’ve been up since 6.”
“6 in the morning? Jesus Christ, hermosa.” Javi laughed to himself, shaking his head as he wrapped his arm around you, pulling you to lay against his bare chest. “I guess I can’t say I’m surprised. What the hell have you been doing since you got up?”
“I made coffee, took a giant shit after I drank the coffee, turned on the lights to the Christmas tree, put Christmas music on in the living room, and then I came back to bed and I’ve been trying to read while I was waiting for you to wake up.”
Javi could do nothing but let out an amused sigh as he pressed a long kiss into the top of your head. “You’re insane, you know that?”
“You’re the one who proposed.” You sassed back, holding your ring in Javi’s face, a playful smirk growing across your face before giving him a little poke on his chest. His response to your witty remark was grabbing you by the waist, flipping you on top of him as he tickled your sides, pecking quick kisses along your body, making you flail and squirm as you erupted with giggles. “Let go, pendejo! You’re gonna end up with a black eye for Christmas if you don’t stop!”
“I’d like to see you try.” He grinned, releasing you from his grasp, giving you a little shove. “Alright, well I’m fucking awake now.” Reaching his arms over his head, Javi let out another loud yawn.
“I made you coffee.” You shrugged, trying to provide at least a little peace offering to him for your early morning wake up.
“I’d fucking hope so.” The two of you laughed as you shuffled out of bed, Javi lazily throwing on a t-shirt and pajama pants before you both wandered out of the bedroom, you at a much quicker pace than Javi.
As much as Javi wanted to give you a hard time about your over exaggerated enthusiasm this early in the morning, he couldn’t help but feel his heart flutter as he walked into the living room, seeing you sit curled up on the couch, clutching a mug of coffee, beaming at Javi as Christmas music played softly in the background, the walls dimly lit by the twinkling lights of tree, being hit with the realization that every Christmas for the rest of his life, would be a Christmas spent with you.
“For you.” You smiled, holding out Javi’s mug, steam dancing off the top of the bitter brown liquid. “My family always opened presents before we did anything else, but if you have something else that your family always did, or you don’t want to, we can-”
“Osita, I know you wanna open presents first, it’s okay.” Javi snickered, kissing your forehead before you shot up off the couch, running over to the tree to grab one of the several neatly wrapped boxes stacked beneath it.
“Okay, thank God, I think I would have spontaneously combusted if I had to wait any longer to give you your gifts.” Hurrying back over to the couch, you placed your boxes on Javi’s lap, snuggling back up next to him as he began to tear away at the wrapping paper of the smallest package.
“You don’t have any photos on your desk, so I figured I’d get you one. That way you can stare at my ugly mug all day long.” You joked, nodding toward the picture frame Javi was holding with a picture from your cousin’s wedding a few months back.
“Shut up. Thank you, I do need more pictures of us in my office, and you look so hot in this picture.” He smirked, giving you a little nudge before picking up the next gift in your pile. “Thank you, Osita.”
“Says the one who’s in the fucking tuxedo in that photo.” You rolled your eyes, watching Javi shake the wrapping paper off the next box.
“Fuck, I’ve been needing new boots. Thank you, Osita, these are so nice.” Javi grinned, holding up the dark leather shoes, letting the bottom of the box drop to the floor.
“I know you have, and you refuse to buy yourself new ones, so I figured I’d upgrade them for you.” You crossed your arms over your chest at Javi, wondering how he’d ever convince himself that he wasn’t just as stubborn as you.
“Jesus, this is heavy.” He laughed, working away at the wrapping to reveal a plain, cardboard box, giving you a confused look.
“It didn’t come in a box and I couldn’t wrap it how it was. I promise you your first gift isn’t a heavy cardboard box.” The two of you laughed as Javi tore the tape holding the top together, digging through the tissue paper, eyes going wide at the contents of the box.
“Osita…” He warned, pulling out the bottle of his favorite Texas branded whisky he would only order for himself on nice occasions, knowing 1- how hard it was to find, and 2- that it was not cheap.
“Don’t even try to start with me. It’s Christmas and I love you and you deserve all the nicest things in the world. I know how much you love this stuff, even though it tastes like pure gasoline, and that you would never buy it for yourself.” You smirked, grabbing under his chin, squeezing his cheeks.
“Thank you, Osita. Where the hell did you find this stuff?” Javi looked at the bottle in disbelief, examining it before setting it carefully back on the ground.
“Steve knew a guy.” You shrugged, only pausing for a moment before pushing yourself off the cushions, only to be stopped by Javi’s grasp around your wrist, pulling you back down.
“These are all perfect, baby. Thank you so much. You're too good tot me. My turn.” Javi grinned, grunting as he got up off the couch, looking through the boxes to find the one he wanted, snatching it up and handing it over to you, immediately beginning to shed the box of its paper. “If you don’t- if you don’t like it or don’t want it, that’s okay, but I figured-”
“Javi, I’m sure whatever it is, I’ll love it.” Taking a pause from your unwrapping, you reached over to give Javi’s knee a squeeze, smiling at him before shuffling the lid off the top of the long box. “Oh no way! Are you serious?!” You squealed, holding up the emerald green and black Dallas Stars hockey jersey. “Javi, what the fuck, this is so cool! Thank you!” You dropped the jersey in your lap, leaning over to give him a tight hug.
“Thank god, I was worried you were gonna be pissed it wasn’t a Blackhawks jersey, but I think you already have 2 here, and like 3 more at your parents house, so I figured, you might like one for the Stars, too.” Javi sighed, relieved that his gift wasn’t about to stir up any unwanted hockey tensions.
“I will wear it every game, except for when we play the Blackhawks- Then I will bury it deep in the closet.” You giggled, picking it back up to stare at it, oblivious to the fact that Javi had already gotten up again to get you another gift.
“These two go together.” He smiled, handing you over the much smaller box as you tilted your head in confusion. You quickly unwrapped the second box, a smaller version of the box for your jersey you had just opened. Still unsure of how something so tiny could go with your new jersey, you suspiciously lifted up the lid, your jaw dropping as you saw what was inside. “Holy fuck, Javi, are you serious?!” You gasped, pulling two tickets to the Dallas Stars vs. Chicago Blackhawks game, clutching them like you couldn’t believe they were real. Taking a second to actually read the ticket, your mouth gaped even further. “Jav, holy shit, these seats are-”
“Against the glass.” Javi smirked, watching your eyes dart back and forth between the tickets and his smug grin.
“But what about- how are we, wait- wouldn’t we have to-“ you mumbled to yourself, trying to process the gift while figuring out the logistics of getting to and from a night game in Dallas from Laredo.
“I’ve got it all taken care of. The game is on Friday in February, the other 3rd grade teachers said they would do whatever to help you take that Friday off, our flight leaves at 2, we land in Dallas at 3:30, and I have a hotel booked for Friday and Saturday. Figured we could make a weekend of it.”
“Javi- You can’t- Javi this is too much- baby, are you serious?” You whispered, breath shaky as you looked up at his beaming face, leaning in to kiss you.
“I can, and I will. You deserve it. Merry Christmas, Osita. There’s one more thing.” He smirked, raising an eyebrow at you, grabbing one last present from under the tree and setting it in your lap.
“Javier Peña, you do not need to get me anything else, I swear to God-” You protested, giving Javi a stern look as you stared at the present in your lap.
“It’s not anything big, I saw it when I got the jersey and couldn’t help myself. Just open it, please?” He sighed, picking it up and bringing it even closer to you.
“Okay, okay.” You shook your head, quickly tearing away the wrapping paper to reveal the box underneath. Lifting the lid, you dramatically rolled your eyes at Javi as you lifted up the red, lacy, lingerie that was tucked away in the tissue paper it had been delicately folded under. “This looks a lot more like a gift for you than a gift for me, Mr. Peña.” You laughed, giving Javi a playful nudge.
“Well, if you put it on and let me unwrap you like the pretty little present you are, I’m sure I can find a way to make it a gift for the both of us.” Javi rasped, leaning over to nip at the exposed skin of your neck, making you let out a breathy moan, before coming to your senses, immediately darting up off the couch towards your bedroom.
“Where the hell are you going?” Javi asked, laughing at you as you sped off, lingerie in your hands.
“Changing so you can unwrap your last present!” You winked, wiggling the lacy outfit in the air before ducking into the bedroom. “Hey!” You shouted, your voice slightly muffled from behind the bedroom door, creaking it open to pop your head back out.
“What, hermosa?” Javi laughed, awestruck smile glowing across his face as he stared at you.
“I love you, Javier Peña. Merry Christmas.”
“Merry Christmas, Osita. I love you more.”

Birthdays
for the Ancient AU. Five Pebbles and Seven Red Suns celebrates a birthday.
a gift for @ardienothesieno !
“I thought you didn’t do birth-cycles?” Pebbles said as he tilted his head and looked to Suns. His cup clinked against the smooth table, drink sloshing a bit, letting the ice clink against the straw. The room was filled with the low hum of conversation, casual and yet refined. Suns fit in better than Pebbles ever did.
They sipped their drink, as poised as the cycle they met, embodying a silent holiness that Pebbles could never dream of achieving. “No, it is not my usual style,” they reply, “but it seemed valuable to celebrate.”
Void below. What is he supposed to say to… this? All of this! Seven Red Suns taking time out of their busy schedule just to take him out to lunch? He’s an artist and lab tech, for wyrm’s sake, and yet they continue to meet, discussing anything under the sun, and then lower as well. Religion, philosophy, paintings, life, their work on the lifeblood of their civilization. Turning Spires is activating soon, and they’re here. Celebrating his birthcycle.
“Pebbles?” they prompt, bringing him back to the moment. “Is everything alright?”
He nods, taking another sip of his drink. “Just thinking about all that’s happened.”
They raise their glass in agreement, tipping it towards him and then taking another sip. “It’s incredible, really. We always wonder if the cycle has us trapped, and here we are, celebrating it.”
“Tradition, I suppose,” he contemplates, holding the cup on the table.
Suns seems to have noticed the oddities, to his dismay. “We don’t have to celebrate here, you know. I thought it would be nice to take you up here, but you seem… uncomfortable.”
“Thanks for stating the obvious, Suns,” he bites back, harder than he really meant to.
Smoothly, always elegantly, in a single motion, Suns sets their cup on the table, taking Pebbles by the arm and pulling. He almost falls, but manages to keep step with his friend. They travel down the elevator, out onto the street, moving between the flowing crowd.
It takes until they are standing in front of the rolling door to Pebble’s workshop that he realizes what Suns is doing. “Hey- I thought you said no work today!”
Suns unlocks the door. They’ve known the code for many cycles now. “Where do you keep your paints? And an apron, preferably.”
Little Pebbles, standing in the doorway where he was left, stares. “You want to paint?”
“It’s your birthday, yes? You enjoy doing this. I want you to show me.”
It takes another moment before Pebbles snaps back into action, collecting two aprons and moving to hang his mask on the hook- until he remembered Suns was also there. Should he take off his mask-? It would be more difficult to paint with it on- would it be weird?
Maybe it would, except Suns had moved behind him, taking an apron in one hand and holding their own mask in the other, hanging it. Oh. He tries to stop thinking, pulling off his own mask and hanging it side by side. They are smiling at him- have they always been? Their eyes are so vibrant- focus. Paint. Cans are pulled from the cabinet, nozzles fitted and set in front of a blank wall in the workshop.
“It will take some getting used to,” he says, picking up a red can and shaking. “Keep your hand moving, or else the paint will pool and drip.” A piece of paper is handed to Suns, and they reach down to pick up another can. Purple.
They shake it as well, trying a few sprays across the paper. The first two drip, but the third is relatively even. Pebbles watches, and void below is it different having Suns in this workshop. They’re tall, he’s always known this, but even without the mask Suns towers over him. He nods at the test sprays, pointing to the wall.
“We start with a sketch. This will get covered up later, but it’s good reference.” He takes a deep breath, stepping up to the wall. Scholar symbol. That will do. It’s bubbly and big, and Suns moves to add some pearls in around the character.
“Is this good?”
He’s always painted alone, this is so different. It’s good. “Yes, very. I like the way it frames the subject.”
Five Pebbles gets into the rhythm of painting. Shake-shake-shake, spray. Step back, see the big picture. Next color. Repeat. Suns works on the pearls, and they almost glow on the wall, colors weaving together. They’re picking this up well.
“You’re quick,” Suns observes, adding gold to one of the pearls.
“I’ve done this for a long time,” he replies.
More painting. Outlines are added, highlights giving emphasis to the shapes. Suns steps back at this point, letting their friend finish the work.
He steps back, dropping the near-empty canister on the ground. “Well. We did it.”
“Thank you Pebbles.”
“Oh-“ He really had needed to get something on this wall, this had just been a good excuse to-
Suns puts their hand on his shoulder. “Let’s get this cleaned up.”
He nods. It was still so surreal to see Suns without their mask, but there they went, picking the cans up off his floor. He hastily followed, putting caps back on and throwing out the empty ones. It all cleaned up quickly, and they both returned to the cabinet to put away the cans and aprons.
“It’s a shame we must wear these bulky masks and not be able to properly appreciate all the artwork on the walls.” Suns states as they pick up their mask, inspecting it before putting it back on.
“Yeah.”
Suns glances to Pebbles. “Let’s get home. It’s been a long day. Oh- send Moon my regards! I’m still writing a response to her last message,” they laugh, standing and walking to the door.
“Yeah, I’ll make sure she knows.” He follows suit, closing the door behind the two and locking it.
Many cycles later, when he’s running for his life, he’s going to come in this workshop, looking for supplies. He’s going to see the mural, made with the one who set him up to fail. The burns on his hands, his face, all from the void fluid that Suns gave him. And he is going to swallow his despair, and run.
Run far away.

lurve ● hueningkai [repost]
warnings: virgin!kai, virgin!reader, perv!kai, perv!reader, established relationship, no sub/dom dynamic, slight sexting, cunnilingus, reader ruins her own orgasm, handjob, fingering, unprotected sex, pull out method, multiple orgasms, petnames, praise and reassurance, implied aftercare
confessing and telling each other that you both felt same from the moment you two met, that knowing it was love at first sight don't take long for you. but unfortunately for you two, your relationship starts when his schedule is packed. so you make your phone your priority.
my kamal: happy 100th day anniversary, i love you so much. wish we could celebrate it together.
you look at the message your boyfriend send with an expression mixed with sadness and joy. how thoughtful was he yet you had started to imagine that this day would be very special from the minute you started dating with him. maybe even trying things for the first time. but you understand and and you give it time, letting your imagination go wild with how your first intercourse would be like with your boyfriend kai.
before your longing for him starts to torture you, you find delight with where your imagination takes you. often interrupted with messages kai sends, you only feel your body's craving for him grows bigger and bigger.
billions of scenarios you think about kai, all of them different from the other, you only get more excited with each. you know he feels the same even though he doesn't explicitly say it. his messages begging for you, videochats with him having to cut short often which you imagine he feels a urge relieve himself which was confirmed with his message one day.
my kamal: curse you busy schedule, i am really thankful to you for the fact that you don't mind but i do. i do mind. can't stop imagining what i would do to you, baby
with your ego boosted, it becomes more harder to wait. you are happy for him because he gets to live his dreams but every now and then you get jealous of those fans.
but even with all this tension building up, you end up not doing it every single time you two finally get to see each other. too damn shy for god's sake and just not wanting to waste the simple quality time together you both need.
yet this date differs itself from the other ones. kai made sure of it with giving attention to every detail. super romantic and cute. it still manages to feel kai even with the change and effort to make everything perfect. even though you are content with your usual hangouts where you two just eat or watch something and some occasions he invites you to his house to play games. so a nice date in amusement park where he makes up hiding himself with the sweet and thoughtful gifts just feels like kai.
when it's announced that the park is closing, kai invites you to his place. you can't help but start to fancy his touch. holding hands throughout the whole way to his house, never letting it go even for a second, it helps with the long taxi ride to way his house.
with a smile he invites you inside. it is not your first time there but your heart get fluttered with the idea of being in his home in this hour. even when it doesn't happen today, you sure are going to spend the night with him. but your dreams come true when he leads you directly to his bedroom after a quick hand wash.
it doesn't even take kai a second to press his lips against yours. soft kisses turning more passionate and heated, moans getting cut with the force of the kiss, all you can think of is how beautiful kai is.
the make out session contunies as he brings you to his bed. never separating from your lips except for breathing, you start to feel a heatwave hitting your poon. he finally separates to speak. "i want you, i want you so bad. i dreamed of this moment maybe thousands times." your heart almost stops working. the excitement you feel with his words coming out of his mouth.
"me too, wanted this so bad. you have no idea." his lips lift up while he presses them to your lips again. "tell me baby, how was your dreams? i can become that." you feel lost to his eyes so you take time to answer. "i don't want my imagination. i want you. only you." your words sounding like the most beautiful things he has ever heard, you feel him gently placing you to on your back before he positions himself above you.
make out getting messier, clothes begging to be taken off, the hot steam filling the whole room, it is a relief to you both when you both finally get naked. "so pretty. you are pretty."
he speaks with the excitement that comes from his inexperience. giving you a final kiss before spreading your legs to access your sweet cunny. after murmuring about how pretty it looked, he wastes no time to attack your clit.
his movements are rather hars and fast to cover up the fact that he doesn't know what to do and you don't know of your body enough to guide him. yet he likes this and continues to eat you out like a starved man till you feel an unexplained pain. you start to beg for stopping and he immediately follows through.
"i am sorry." he says but you interrupt him by explaining how it was okay but you started to feel overwhelmed and how unfamiliar it all felt. he looks at you confused as you tell him that maybe you were about to come. "how? i thought i did bad." he says before laying right beside you.
you giggled as you try to help him by grabbing his cock. "ahh. it definitely feels different than my own hands." you agree. "it does, right? i never felt that good." smiling at your confession his hands travel to your folds for a search for your entrance. he knows he should prepare you for him. he doesn't want to ruin your first time with pain.
you both turn into a whining mess in no time. when he feels close he moans your name loudly as he cums on your hand and his stomach ruining sheets of his bed. you bring some of his cum to your mouth as you always wondered how it tastes. he giggles when you say "it is not as bas as i thought it would ve it even tastes good."
he climbs on top of you again to study how his fingers doing and how your body reacts. "you look so pretty. wish you had my sight." he says even though his mind kinda couldy with the orgasm he just had.
"kai, i think that's enough, i want you inside." you say after him playing with you a while and you realize that he is hard again. he nods and moves your legs further apart to make a room for himself. one hand right beside your hips, other on his member as he helps himself to thrust into you.
you feel a slight pain due to strech yet your sweet boyfriend understands and waits for you. once you give him the green light he starts to move slowly. "fu- fuck! so thight" he says as he feels your walls sorounding his dick like nothing else.
his thrusts speeding up a little, he gives all the compliments he can think of to you.
"my baby takes me so well. great job my sweet girl." he says them like a matra they are dvine words. his cock making you feel so good even though it is both his and your first time.
"that's it, kai! just like that! oh god please don't stop" you say in a hard to understand tone as your ability to speak left you a while ago.
when he feels he is close again his hand starts to play with your clit once again to help you reach your high with him. as he speeds up even more your moans get louder as if they weren't loud enough. proud of himself for doing this to you in his first time, he pulls out when you came around his cock. giving it some stimulation with his hand he finally cums again. his cum decorating your stomach and tits.
"wow! just wow!" he says as he lays down beside you once again. "it was definitely better than my fantasies." you confess which he also agrees. "let me take care of you and start a bath for us, okay?"

wouldn't it be funny if shin somehow was given a jetpack from one of the mandalorians while her and sabine were visiting mandalore
sabine, ahsoka, and bo-katan would be conversing together over tea and uj'alayi, as they do; while shin was at the great forge with the armorer, as she does
there was this young apprentice of the armorer's who is crafting the jetpacks, right, and they need someone to test it out because their test-person is currently out testing another jetpack; they saw shin just sitting around reading, so they called her
"you want me to what?" shin repeated, not quite understanding what the apprentice told her to do
"try out the jetpack," the apprentice persists, like it's the most obvious thing ever, "my friend is out testing, and i need this jetpack finished today. i can't concur if it's ready or not without testing."
"i do not even know how to use this thing."
"it's easier than you'd think. the controls are in the vambraces." the apprentice quickly shoves shin a pair of vambraces, and began instructing a guide. "this tells it to go up, this is to land. it's intuitive, so it will follow your movement."
shin tuts, despite understanding the jetpack's controls. "this does not feel correct. i am not the armorer's apprentice."
the apprentice groans, desperate. "wolf, please. i don't want to work overtime today! it's my sister's birthday and i want to celebrate."
shin stares at the young apprentice in front of her, yellow helmet seems to echo the pleading eyes underneath it. she sighed, snatching the vambraces. "fine. but if the armorer, or worse ahsoka, finds out, you are responsible for this."
the apprentice cheered, victorious. "yes, yes, okay. try it on, wolf!"
shin rolled her eyes as she strips off her vambraces to put on the pair the apprentice gave her. she puts on the back piece of beskar that connects the jetpack, and the apprentice returns with a breastplate and a helmet to complete the look, which further confuses shin
"why are you handing me a helmet?"
"if you fly around without one, you'll lose your head."
shin grumbles, but the apprentice does have a point. after she puts on the breastplate and the helmet, it took her a while to adjust to feeling of beskar and the helmet. looking through the visor, she realises it adds more depth to her vision and it's programmed to fly
"okay," shin spoke, mildly entertained by her filtered voice through the helmet, "where do i fly to?"
"make a round trip from here to the center square. that should be enough to test it out."
shin nodded. she breathes in, trying out the controls in her vambrace, and slowly began to lift off the ground higher. the apprentice cheered, encouraging her to take off, so shin did
she immediately takes off from the great forge, and fly out some great height that made her blood rush in ways she's never did before, maneuvering through buildings and up to the sky above her
shin began to make her way to the center square; flying this freely feels so unfamiliar to her, yet it's also so natural. like she was born fly this freely. it's so different than flying a starfighter, shin thinks
just as shin sees the center square ahead of her, she hears someone else flying on her right, and another one shows not far behind her left. shin's helmet notifies an incoming transmission, and when she looks to the right, there sabine was with her identifiable brightly coloured beskar
"alright, apprentice. you're not cleared for a testing schedule today, so we're gonna have to escort your landing," comes in bo-katan's voice through the transmission in her helmet
sabine's voice chimes in, "i really hope for your sake, the armorer is in a good mood today, kid."
shin sighs, nodding as she began to descend, followed closely by bo-katan and sabine on her sides. but, just as she was closing in for a landing, the jetpack stutters, engines hacking away and making her unstable, before completely shutting off and threw her in a freefall
luckily, both sabine and bo-katan came to her aid and grabs her arms as they slowed down her eventful landing at the center square. when they're all on steady ground, shin watch as the mand'alor and sabine takes off their helmets, and she takes it as her cue to remove hers
sabine's eyes are wide in disbelief as she exclaims, "shin?! what the hell were you doing with a jetpack?"
shin had to contain her amusement, shrugging instead. "one of the armorer's apprentice needed someone to test this out. i was free, so i did it."
"well, that explains the unscheduled flying," bo-katan points out with a laugh, shaking her head. "alright, let's go back to the forge and return the jetpack. clearly, the apprentice still needs to do some fixing with the engine."
"ah, about that," shin hesitantly began, earning a curious look from the two mandalorian women, "the apprentice told me they wanted to go home quickly. their sister is celebrating a birthday. i do not wish to keep them at their workshop for too long."
bo-katan shared looks with sabine, conversing in silence as shin remains waiting for their decisions. the mand'alor sighs, nodding her head at shin to follow her as they make their way to a workshop
shin eventually returns to the great forge on flight, landing clumsily beside the apprentice's workshop. the apprentice waits expectantly, watching closely as shin takes off her helmet and unclasps the beskar
"well? how was it?" the apprentice asks as they help shin takes off the jetpack
"bo-katan and sabine escorted me to land on the center square. they told me i was flying on an unscheduled testing," shin replies, putting heavy emphasis on the last part
the apprentice shifts, guilty. "i'm sorry. i'll clear that with the mand'alor."
shin's lips quirk to a small smile, patting the apprentice's helmet. "worry not. i explained to bo-katan, and the mand'alor understands your situation. sabine also already fixed the engine, it had a little issue earlier."
"what?!" the apprentice squealed, panic in their voice. "what happened?"
"it ran fine, had some trouble with the landing sequence, i suppose," shin explains factually, and when the apprentice frets, she knocks on their helmet, "worry not, i told you. sabine already fixed it. she left an instruction guide for you to learn from the mistake in the helmet, so you do not need to be staying here for your sister's birthday."
the apprentice looks up at shin, and the blonde padawan can only guess their eyes are glimmering underneath the helmet. "thank you so much, wolf. i'll be sure to pass my thanks to the mand'alor and commander wren as well."
shin then contemplates on something for a little, before replying in mando'a, "ba'gedet'ye, ad'ika." the language was still foreign on her tongue, but she feels that it's appropriate
when the apprentice left, shin made her way back to the armorer's station, picking up her book. the armorer was there, in the middle of writing something on her desk
"did one of my apprentice trouble you?" the armorer asks, but her tone indicated that she knew the answer already
shin shook her head. "no. they only required some help. i happen to be free to help them."
the armorer made a humming noise. "who was it?"
"i did not ask their name," shin asnwers, "they had a yellow helmet, with blue line on their visor."
"ah," the armorer recognises, "yes, i know them. a little feisty troublemaker that one, atin ferro. very exceptionally skilled in assembling sen'tra."
"they are," shin agrees
"you tried flying it?"
"yes."
"how was it?" the armorer asks, curious of shin's opinion on the device
shin contemplates for a little. "it was... like i've never imagined before. i felt so free. it is different from flying a ship or a starfighter."
the armorer nodded. "it is. we take pride in it."
shin smiles, soft snd small. "i know."
the armorer stands, walking towards shin as she places a gentle gloved hand on her back. "come along now. i believe the mand'alor is looking for us. and your jedi master, too."
shin nodded as the two made their way to the grand palace, arriving to the grand throne welcomed by bo-katan sitting at the head of the table, followed by an empty seat to her right, din and grogu by her left, ahsoka across of din, and sabine next to din. the armorer made a beeline to the empty seat next to bo-katan as shin made her way to sit across sabine
sabine grins at shin the moment she sat down. "you're growing more mandalorian the more time we spend here, flying around in a sen'tra."
to that ahsoka turns to sabine, looks at shin, and shoots a questioningly amused look at sabine. "what did you mean shin is flying around in a jetpack?"
"i told you, i was helping an apprentice of the armorer's," shin sighed at sabine as she repeats the reason why she was in a jetpack, "you are acting as if i stole their device and took a joyride."
"hey, i wouldn't blame you. it'd be fun."
"yes, of course you'd find stealing the armorer's devices fun, ad'ika. you, are a little menace." bo-katan laughs from across the table, as if the idea of sabine sneaking around the armorer's inventory isn't surprising to her at all, as the rest of the table echoes the mand'alor's laugh
bo-katan had thrown a small gathering to celebrate; she didn't exactly specify the occasion or the reason for said gathering, but no one is surprised. if anyone asks, the mand'alor is either celebrating sabine becoming the first mandalorian jedi in their current lifetime after tarre vizsla, or celebrating mandalore's new liberation day
shin initially felt a little out of place; everyone in this table had known each other prior, and she doesn't. the only two people she knows are sabine and ahsoka, so she mostly listens to them exchanging war stories to fill both ahsoka and sabine in, or any news that they might have missed during their time stranded on the other galaxy
sabine had included shin into the conversations as best, whenever she could. the mandalorian padawan would excitedly tell the table how incredibly skilled shin is as a warrior, even went so far to claim she would make a fine mandalorian apprentice, something that made shin's ears flush red under her curtains of bone-white blonde
(it doesn't help that ahsoka and bo-katan had knowing smiles on their face as sabine says so)
the armorer, in response to sabine's claims, voices out, "i agree with commander wren. i'd be highly honoured to have her as mine own apprentice."
sabine grins widely as shin had a disbelieving look on her face as if she couldn't believe her ears. her eyes dances around the table, meeting ahsoka's agreeing expression on her face, echoed by bo-katan's approving smile
"though," ahsoka began with her usual cheeky smile, raising her cup for a sip, "i believe you would have to battle general syndulla to the death for shin."
shin had a questioning look on her face, while sabine laughs across of her. "i love hera, but my bets are on the armorer. i think shin looks dashing in beskar."
the armorer laughs, a rare expression from her, evidently amused by the prospect. "as much as i agree with commander wren," she nods at shin's direction, "i believe any choices that are to be made comes back to her own decision."
shin feels a lot of proud and welcoming eyes on her, her insides suddenly feels so warm. she recalls the last time someone held her so highly in pride and she had felt so wanted; her previous master, baylan. and now, she was deemed worthy enough to be considered to become the armorer's apprentice
"i..." shin began, but truly unsure on what to say. her eyes dart towards ahsoka, and the jedi master nods understandingly, calming her through the force. shin breathes, before continuing, "i am beyond honoured to be considered with such offer. i am still unsure if that is the path for me currently, and if it is acceptable by you, mand'alor, and the armorer, perhaps i could think on it for the moment before i come to any decisions."
bo-katan shares a glance with the armorer, silently conversing with each other, before they both nod. the armorer spoke, "that is acceptable. you are welcomed anytime you feel ready."
shin's face lights up, beaming, almost matching sabine's grin and ahsoka's proud smile. the mand'alor raises her cup for a toast as the whole table cheers
later on that night, in the shared quarters with sabine within the palace, shin is polishing her new pauldrons made from an alloy of her old pauldrons mixed with beskar, marvelling at the silver-ish beauty of the raw and unpainted pieces. her lightsaber is sat perfectly next to sabine's and her pile of beskar pieces
sabine exits the refresher with a pair of loose sleep pants and her black fitting tanktop, a trail of steam followed her close behind. shin can sense sabine leaning against the wall and watching her from her periphery, trying to ignore sabine's thoughts
"cyar'ika," sabine calls softly, and shin had to pretend as if the mando'a petname isn't sending shivers down her spine. the mandalorian walks towards the bed, sitting on the edge, eyes never leaving shin
shin simply hummed in response. sabine tuts. the blonde padawan sighs, putting down her pauldrons. "what is it?"
sabine smiles when their eyes met. there's something swimming behind those honeyed brown eyes, shin can sense it. "nothing. you're just..."
shin watches as sabine gets up from the bed to strut towards her, looping her arms around shin's neck as she sat herself on her lap. sabine tucks her curtains behind one ear, a ghost of a smirk on her lips as shin's reddish earlobe is visible. sabine's eyes are wild as they dart from shin's eyes to her lips
sabine leans down to kiss shin, instinctively making the blonde padawan wrap her arms around sabine's torso to pull her closer towards herself. the mandalorian grabs the side of shin's face to tilt her up so sabine can deepen the kiss, hungry for more
"gar mesh'la," sabine rasped out in between gasps over shin's lips

Riku SSR
#7043BB
Part 1
Kiho: Yes, the matter is settled. We managed to convince them. Riku’s cooperation is truly something else, he really made it easier in every aspect. Ito: That's good… I knew he could do it.
A problem occurred during the special request. It was resolved peacefully, and I could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
Kiho: Oh, right. I was going to ask you something when there’s a chance. Are you free on July 25th? It’s Riku’s birthday on the 26th, so the whole Negotiation Dept. are having a dinner, would you like to join? Ito: (Not on the day, but the day before. So it's his birthday’s eve?) I think I’m free on that day. Though I'll check the schedule just to be sure. (25th July…………25th July………………)
Riku: Good work. Ito: Oh, Riku-san. Good work. Kiho: Speak of the devil. Riku: Huh? Kiho: The case was resolved thanks to your help, Riku. Riku: Oh, that one? I’m glad to hear that. Kiho: Now that it's settled, I was asking Ito about her schedule on the 25th. Riku: Oh, I see. I guess it’s hard to refuse when I’m here. Ito: (I think I have a little deadline I have to deal with just before then.) I think it’ll be fine so… Well, I don’t think I’m convincing anyone here. Umm, do I have to hand in the calendar as proof? Riku: Haha. You don't have to go that far. I'd be happy if you could come, but if that costs a change in your plan, I don’t mind if you prioritize it. Kiho: Riku. I think you already know this. What Ito is trying to say is she doesn’t want you to be concerned and be held back by her. It’s rude if you don't take her feeling into account. Riku: Of course I know, and thanks to that I'm on the verge of falling for you. But if we were in different positions, Kiho would have the same reaction as me, no? Kiho: I won’t deny that. Except for the "I'm on the verge of falling for you” part.
Ito: (They get along well.)
As I was watching the casual exchange between these two, my heart skipped a beat when I suddenly saw Riku-san turn towards me.
Riku: Thank you, Ito. I'm looking forward to 25th July.
Ito: Same here.
From the way he looked directly in my eyes, I could tell that his words were not just a lip-service.
Part 2
And then, the night before Riku-san's birthday has arrived….
Riku: Hmm, now this is quite tasteful.
The sound of Shishi-odoshi echoed from the garden. The big set meal lined up in front of us is bright and delicately arranged.
Ito: (.….Wow.) (Since they are the members from Negotiation Dept., I expected it to have a relaxing atmosphere.) (I never thought they'd come to such a high-class restaurant…)
Kiho: By the way, Ito. Everything okay with your work? Ito: Yes, I managed to get it done.
Kyoya: That’s a relief, isn’t it, Riku-san? You were really worried whether she pushed herself too hard. Riku: Come on, don’t just blurt out something like that. Ito: Thank you for your concern. I adjusted myself properly so that I could join you with a clear mind. There's no problem. Riku: Does that mean you worked hard for my sake? Ito: Since I did all that to celebrate Riku-san’s birthday, so in a way you’re not wrong… Kyoya: There doesn't seem to be any deep emotion behind it, Riku-san. Riku: I guess so. Anyway, I'm glad you’re free from your concern now. I'd be happy if you could enjoy yourself today Kiho: I chose a private room so don’t hold yourself back. Ito: Yes. Kyoya: By the way, Riku-san. It seems like this store also has some good whiskey. Riku: Oh, nice. Let's have that next once we finish our beer. Ito: (Riku-san must really like whiskey.) Kyoya: Which brand should we go for? Riku: I'll leave that to you, Kyoya. Just pick out the recommended one. Kyoya: Got it. Riku: I kinda want to increase my drinking pace for this occasion, but I guess I have to keep it moderate to avoid hangover tomorrow. Kyoya: I'm pretty sure you have plans tomorrow night. Riku: Yes, a very important matter. Ito: (I see, since tomorrow is Riku-san’s birthday…) (It's not surprising that he has plans to spend time with someone important.) So that’s why the celebration with Negotiation Dept. came a day early. Riku: Yup. Kiho: ………..
Part 3
Kiho: Even so, Riku is also a serious type. Riku: Where is that coming from? Kiho: Regarding that very important matter of yours. Even though you were asked to go earlier than the original date, there was no need for you to screw your birthday over that, right? Ito: (…………………Huh?) Riku: Well, it seemed like my client needs my presence as soon as possible, even if it’s one day earlier. Ito: (Don’t tell me…..) Kyoya: Oh yeah. Riku-san is a high-demand counselor after all. Ito: (So his important appointment is about work?) Riku: Well, at this age, something like birthday doesn’t really feel special anymore. Even if I have to spend my days working, I don't really mind. Kiho: Funny how when everyone was a kid, they looked forward to it and was excited for days in advance. Kyoya: Does that apply to you too, Kiho-san? Kiho: Who knows? Riku: I can't imagine Kiho being what he is now when he was a child. Ito: (…. I guess they're trying to subtly correct my misunderstanding without mentioning it.)
More than feeling sorry for the mistake, I felt warmed by their smart consideration.
Kyoya: But, Riku-san. There may be people who don't feel special about it, but those around you think of your birthday as a special day. Riku: Oh? Kiho: That's right. The fact that we all gathered here to celebrate Riku’s birthday is enough proof, isn’t it? Riku: You guys really know your way with words, huh? To the point where I really want to capture this marvelous and leisure moment I spend with friends like this.
With that said, Riku-san took out a professional camera from his bag.
Kyoya: In that case, the main character should be in the picture as well. Ito: Oh, I'll do it! Just press the shutter, right? Riku: What are you talking about? We’re all in this together. Let's ask the waitress.
By the time I nodded in response to Riku-san's suggestion, Kiho-san had already made the request to waitress via extension.
Soon after, the commemorative shot was taken.
Riku: Can’t wait to see how it turns out.
After taking a camera from the waitress, we all looked into it. Riku-san and his warm smile were surrounded by everyone.
Riku: ……. Kyoya: It turns out nicely, doesn’t it? Kiho: Right. Ito: (It's refreshing to see Riku-san wear this expression.)
Kyoya: Once again, happy birthday.
Kiho: Happy birthday, Riku. Ito: Happy birthday.
Riku: Hey, you’re making me shy here. But, thank you. The feelings I got from everyone today really touched my heart.
Riku-san looked straight at each person and smiled. Even though it’s not actually his birthday, everyone could tell that today is his special day.

A sugared birthday.
Birthday special. Pt. (1/2)
The preparations.
It was nearing the end of November, a date when Kai would get inevitably more agitated. The reasons were many, but one that everyone had was because of their lord’s birthday approaching. The people’s love for shingen was noticeable, every time we would go out together i noticed how many people would greet him and smile upon seeing him. I felt the same as they did, specially since he was my fiancé.
When this time of the year arrives, i always get excited to prepare for his birthday, and I have made it my mission to make everything perfect for him. However, I don’t accept doing something similar every year, I like surprising him with new things that could make him happy. This year, I was hoping to have some external help to prepare his birthday party and gift.
“I believe you all know why I gathered you here today, I made it very clear in my letters.” I greeted the men in an inn, all of which were close to shingen in a way. The room I rented for this meeting had a table set with drinks to make it more comfortable.
“You know, you aren’t very subtle with your letters.” Yukimura said, a clear questionable look on his face. He was already used to coming to Kai regularly during the year since he was Shingen’s vassal, but I still sent a letter asking him to come.
“Come now, Yukimura. I believe it’s a great way to prepare for Shingen’s birthday. Everyone here knows him in different ways.” Yoshimoto announced as he elegantly brought the cup of sake to his lips, smiling softly. I was also expecting him to come regardless of the letter I sent, Yoshimoto is always present to celebrate his cousin.
“If by different, you mean annoying, then you are correct.” Kenshin finally spoke, putting down his cup to fill with more sake. Despite his cold words, Kenshin could be considered a great friend to shingen. Well… maybe friend is a strong word. But regardless of him and shingen being on the same side or not, these two know each other very well.
“My lord, if I must say, you immediately made space in your schedule to be able to make the trip here. You seemed excited for lord Shingen’s birthday.” Sasuke said what was on my mind, fixing his glasses in the process. Sasuke was the most different person there, as he wasn’t as close to shingen. But I personally think that Sasuke has an unique relationship with every warlord in Kasugayama. I suppose it’s because he manages to stay on good terms with all of them. Though, he doesn’t seem to be very close to Yoshimoto.
“Traitor.” Kenshin’s eyebrows furrowed as his delicate face turned into a frown. Before this could turn into a fight, I intervened. “Alright, you all. We should get back to the matter at hand. I called you all here because of Shingen’s birthday party, and I need your help to make it extra special this year. Since you all know him in different lights, I was hoping to hear everyone’s opinion.”
They all looked at me, finally paying attention. I could see in their faces that they started to get deep in thought, likely thinking of ways to innovate for Shingen’s birthday.
Yukimura spoke up, looking a bit confused “you know that whatever you plan he will like it, right? I do think we should make a big feast for him, but you always seem to complicate things.” I was expecting that answer from Yukimura, that’s why I was prepared.
“While that’s true, Shingen is very attentive towards others, so I think it’s good that we plan something extraordinary for him.” I know Yukimura didn’t mean it in a bad way, he was likely just saying that shingen will appreciate anything I do, even if it’s something simple.
“Selena is right, Yuki. Shingen is very caring towards all of us, I believe it’s good that we pay his kindness back with an extravagant party.” Yoshimoto was someone who was always trying to do nice things for Shingen, I have always noticed how good of a relationship these two cousins have with each other.
“Still, if Selena just wishes him happy birthday, lord shingen will be in the clouds. I know because he always tells me in details how he feels.” Yukimura said that with a shiver, I am guessing that is the same reaction a son would have if they heard their father talking about his love life.
“I know, Yukimura. But it’s precisely because he would be content with something simple that I believe he deserves something big.” I was hellbent on making his a great birthday, a remarkable one even.
“If that’s the case, a banquet is a must.” Kenshin gladly said while sipping his sake, munching a pickled plum he ordered.
“Kenshin, is this your way of making an excuse to drink and tell tales of battle all night?” Yoshimoto commented with a smile, hiding it with his beautiful fan.
“Don’t be ridiculous, that happens at every common banquet. During this one, it must be special. I will-“ before Kenshin could conclude his sentence, Sasuke jumped in.
“Remember, my lord, poking lord shingen with a sword is not a birthday gift.”
“You always seem to take away the fun in my suggestions, Sasuke. But it is true that a bit of action could make this party unforgettable.” A bit of action… i should think about that later, it is a valuable suggestion after all.
“I don’t like any brute action, and I am sure shingen will prefer to relax. Although the action doesn’t have to do with fighting. Personally, I believe that the gift should be something involving Selena.” Yoshimoto pointed at me, making the others pay attention as well.
“Me..? What are you suggesting, Yoshimoto?” My curiosity bested me, I wondered what his idea was.
“We all know how much shingen loves you, why not do something that involves you? Perhaps dressing up for him would be nice” well, shingen does like pampering me by buying new clothes, he seems to take joy in seeing me dressing up.
“Ugh, if you are going that way, I don’t even want to think about it. Although, I guess it’s true, lord shingen is always looking for accessories to give her as gifts because he thinks she will look pretty.” Yukimura added, which made me thoughtful.
Sasuke seemed to be thinking quite a bit as well, I wonder if he was thinking of any modern ideas. Finally, he spoke his mind “why not do some roleplaying?”
I was shocked by his suggestion, I didn’t think Sasuke would choose something like that. I was right to think he would have a modern idea, but that was unexpected.
“You mean… like dress myself up and pretend to be someone else?” If that’s what I understood, this could be a good idea, but it could also be so embarrassing. I have no doubts that shingen would happily play along, but what if I can’t keep up?
“I have never heard of such a thing before, but it wouldn’t be bad. Shingen does love to compare Selena with mystical beings, perhaps this could be a dream come true to him.” Yoshimoto seemed to like the idea as well. Now I feel even more embarrassed. What would I even dress up as? A celestial maiden? Ohh that would be quite the work for the seamstresses to have.
Kenshin was quiet for a while now, but he finally spoke after a while “I don’t care about whatever that idea means, but he might like being spoiled by you. He likes those disgusting sugary treats, you should make him some and serve it to him.” That was a surprising suggestion from kenshin, and it didn’t seem bad at all.
As they gave suggestions, the idea began forming in my mind. It certainly was a bit embarrassing, but I am sure I would get used to it. It was for shingen after all.
“But wait, if I did something like that, it would need to be private. This kind of thing would be too embarrassing to do in public. What about the banquet?”
“Don’t worry, Selena. This time, just leave the preparations for the banquet to us. Meanwhile you should focus on getting your gift to him done.” Yukimura reassured me, giving a thumbs up as encouragement. Sometimes he seems like a sibling to me. Actually, they all do.
“That’s true, you will have to prepare a lot of things with the suggestion we gave.” Sasuke comments, I guess there was a lot to do. Specially considering the time I had.
“It will be exciting to plan this banquet, we must ensure that a lot of sake should be ordered for the party.” Kenshin was clearly excited about planning the party, which I expected from him. Even when there isn’t anything to celebrate he will still find a way to organize a banquet.
“Besides, I am certain that my cousin will want to celebrate his birthday privately with you, Selena. We will make sure to distract him for you.” Yoshimoto was another person that I considered to be my family here, and not just because he was my fiancé’s cousin.
What i decided to do as a gift was to make his favorite sweets and dress up according to Yoshimoto’s suggestion, maybe it wouldn’t be bad to pretend to be a celestial maiden. The others will distract him during the banquet while I prepare everything in our room with the sweets. Once he arrived, i would suggest to serve him for his birthday with sweets… and maybe more.
And hopefully he wouldn’t suspect a thing until everything was ready.
“Alright, I trust you all! Let’s make this birthday party memorable!” I said with a lot of confidence, already excited for the preparations.
To be continued…
The next part will include nsfw, so no minor interactions there.

challenge. (part 6.)
(Van x Reader.)
You finally complete 2 months without smoking and Van is ready to give you your prize in the best way possible.
warning: NSFW content.
goodbye to one of my fave stories ever. 🥹
As I was sleeping, I felt someone’s weight pressing down on my bed, and I instantly opened my eyes.
“What the—”
“Happy two months, love!” Van exclaimed, showering me with kisses just the way I liked him to.
“Van!” I laughed, my heart racing.
“I couldn’t wait until the morning to see ya… I’m so proud of you,” he said, his voice warm and genuine.
“I couldn’t have done it without you, Van,” I replied, trying to sound nonchalant, but the truth was, I didn’t want to imagine where I’d be without him.
He pulled back slightly, looking at me with those deep, earnest eyes that made me feel so seen. “Don’t sell yourself short. You’ve come so far, and you did it all on your own. I just got to be here to cheer you on.”
I smiled at him, warmth spreading through my chest. “It means a lot that you were here, really.”
He grinned and ran a hand through his hair, a habit of his that always made him look even more disheveled and handsome. “I can’t wait to celebrate together.”
“I can’t wait either… but we still have a show today, Rockstar” I reminded him, the reality of our busy schedule pulling me back to earth.
Van sighed dramatically, falling back onto the bed. “Ugh, I guess we have to work first, huh?”
“Unfortunately,” I chuckled, “but it’ll be worth it later. Just think of the celebration we can have after the show.”
His eyes sparkled with mischief. “Oh, I’ve got some ideas that’ll definitely make it a night to remember.”
“Seriously, Van..I’m so happy.,” I said smiling. “It feels so surreal. Two months ago, this felt impossible for me. And look where we are now.”
“I know what you mean,” he said, propping himself up on one elbow. “You’ve grown so much, and watching you find your footing in this world… it’s honestly inspiring.”
A flutter of happiness stirred inside me at his words. “I couldn’t have done it without your support. You believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself.”
Van’s expression softened, and he reached out, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. “You’ve always had it in you. You just needed someone to remind you of that.”
I felt a blush creeping onto my cheeks. “Thank you, really. I feel like I’m finally starting to find my place again.”
“Good. Because I’m not letting you go back to that doubt,” he said playfully, feigning a serious expression. “We have to keep moving forward. No looking back.”
“Deal,” I agreed, grinning at his infectious energy. “But right now, let’s rest for the show. Don’t want my singer tired.”
“Right,” he said, rolling off the bed and stretching, his shirt riding up slightly to reveal a hint of his toned abdomen. I couldn’t help but admire him, feeling lucky to be right here, right now.
“Do you want me to stay?” he asked, a teasing lilt in his voice.
“No, I’m actually a bit sick of your face right know,” I said, playfully rolling my eyes, though I knew deep down I wanted him to stay.
He laughed, leaning closer again, a playful glint in his eye. “Oh really? So you wouldn’t miss me if I left?”
“Not at all,” I teased, biting my lip to hide my smile.
“Liar,” he said with mock seriousness. “You’d miss me too much.”
“Sleep, Van. Now.” I said, faking an angry expression. “Rockstars also need to rest, you know?”
He put a hand over his heart, feigning offense. “How dare you question my rockstar status?”
I laughed, shaking my head. “I just want to make sure you’re in top shape for the show. Can’t have you out there forgetting the lyrics because you stayed up too late.”
“Fair point,” he said, finally relenting. “I’ll get some sleep… for your sake.” He leaned down and pressed a quick kiss on my forehead. “But only because I know we won’t be getting any tonight.”
With that, he settled back against the pillows, the corners of his mouth still curving into a smile. As he closed his eyes, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of contentment wash over me. Just a few months ago, I never would have imagined sleeping and waking up like this, and I was grateful for every moment we shared.
Since the moment we woke up, Van didn’t leave my side, his hand on mine all day, only drifting apart when I had to go on stage to check on everything. The excitement in the air was palpable as we prepared for the show, and I was grateful for Van’s presence, feeling a boost of confidence just knowing he was there.
As I moved around the stage, focusing on the equipment, I suddenly felt someone right behind me.
“Shit Nick! You scared me,” I said, turning to see him standing there with a curious expression.
“Sorry, (Y/N). I was just checking out the stage,” he replied, a hint of amusement in his voice.
“Oh yeah..I was trying to figure this one out.” I pointed to an old monitor that seemed to be malfunctioning. “He’s been a pain these last few gigs”
“Let me see what I can do,” Nick said, stepping closer to inspect the issue.
As he knelt down, I felt a flicker of unease. This monitor had been problematic before, and I couldn’t shake the nagging feeling that it would cause trouble during the show.
Just then, I caught a glimpse of Van watching from the side of the stage, his eyes fixed on me. The warmth of his gaze washed over me, and I found myself smiling despite the worry creeping in.
“This might be more complicated than I thought,” Nick said, his brow furrowing as he examined the wires.
“Do you think it’ll hold up for the performance?” I asked, crossing my fingers.
“I’ll do my best. If it doesn’t, we can always improvise. You know how it goes,” he said with a shrug, his tone reassuring.
“Yeah, I just hope it doesn’t mess with the sound. The crowd will notice,” I replied, glancing back at Van again, who had stepped closer, sensing my anxiety.
“Hey,” he called out, his voice steady. “Everything okay over there?”
I knew Van always felt a bit more conscious when I was around Nick, especially after our chat last week.
“Just some technical stuff,” I said, trying to sound casual. “Nick is on it, though.”
Van walked over, his presence immediately grounding me. “Let me know if you need help,” he said, leaning against the side of the monitor, his hand brushing against mine for a brief moment.
I felt my heart race at the contact, grateful for his support. “Thanks, I appreciate it.”
“Always,” he replied, his eyes sparkling with encouragement.
Nick glanced up. “Looks like you’ve got your own personal cheerleader.”
“Nick…I–“
“It’s okay, (Y/N). I’m glad he is finally stepping up. You’re too good to be in anyone’s shadow.”
“I appreciate that,” I said, kneeling down next to him. “I didn’t forget what happened, and I still feel bad. I’m really trying to get better, Nick.”
“I know,” he said, his expression softening. “And you will.”
As Nick worked on the monitor, I felt a sense of calm wash over me. He was right; I was making progress, and with Van by my side, I felt unstoppable. I glanced up at him, who was watching us with a proud smile.“Thanks for believing in me,” I added, genuinely grateful for his support.
Nick nodded, focusing on the wires
“Why don’t you go run through the setlist with him? I’ll handle this.”
“Good idea,” I said, feeling a rush of excitement. “Thanks, Nick. I owe you a lot.”
“Just do your thing out there,” he replied, waving me off.
I turned to Van, who was still leaning against the monitor, his eyes shining with pride. “Ready to run through the setlist?” I asked.
“I’ll follow your lead, lady.” he replied, stepping closer, his hand finding mine once more.
As we prepared for the show, the excitement around us swirled, and Van was in his element—his energy contagious. I felt that familiar rush of adrenaline mixed with pride as I watched him.
Everything was in its place, the soundcheck going smoothly, and for the first time in two months, I felt a sense of calm. Nick stood beside me, glancing between me and Van with a knowing look.
“He’s kind of class, isn’t he?” Nick mused, nodding toward Van on stage.
I couldn’t help but smile, my heart full. “The best,” I whispered, feeling that rush of love and admiration all over again.
The lights dimmed, and the crowd roared as the band started their set. The energy in the venue was electric, and I was caught up in the moment, cheering along with everyone else.
Van was captivating, his voice strong and sure as he moved through song after song. But just as they were about to start the next track, Van paused, his hand resting on the mic stand, eyes searching the crowd until they found mine.
“I want to dedicate this next one to a very special person,” he said, his voice warm and steady, but his gaze held something more—something personal.
My heart stopped, and my breath caught in my throat as he smiled, and the first chords of “Anything” rang out. That song. I hadn’t expected it, and the rush of emotion hit me hard. Tears pricked the corners of my eyes, threatening to spill over as I stood frozen, overwhelmed by the gesture.
As Van’s voice poured through the speakers, singing words that felt like they were meant only for me, it felt as though time slowed down.
The crowd disappeared, and it was just the two of us, his voice wrapping around me like a promise, reminding me of all the moments we’d shared, the struggles we’d overcome, and the quiet, unspoken bond that had grown between us.
Nick nudged me lightly, breaking the trance. “You okay?” he asked, his tone soft.
I nodded, wiping the tears that had slipped free. “Yeah… I just wasn’t expecting that.”
Nick gave me a small smile and patted my shoulder.
As the song drew to a close, Van’s eyes found mine again, a quiet smile playing on his lips. The intensity of his gaze made my heart flutter, and I couldn’t help but smile back, feeling more connected to him than ever before.
After the set, I found him backstage, his face flushed from the performance. He looked at me with a mixture of pride and nervousness, like he was waiting for me to say something.
“You… you didn’t have to do that,” I said, my voice thick with emotion.
“I wanted to,” he replied softly, stepping closer, his hand reaching for mine. “You mean everything to me.”
I looked up at him, my heart swelling, and for the first time in a long while, I didn’t feel the weight of doubt or fear. I just felt love. Pure, undeniable love.
“You mean everything to me too, Van. That was beautiful.” I said, hugging him.
We stayed like that for a moment, holding each other, letting the world outside fade into the background. The noise of the venue, the people milling around—it all disappeared, leaving just us. My heart still raced from the song, but now, it was calm, a quiet certainty settling over me.
When we finally pulled back, Van brushed a thumb over my cheek, wiping away the last traces of my tears. “Didn’t mean to make you cry,” he said with a small, teasing grin.
I laughed softly. “Yes you did!You always know how to get me emotional.”
“That’s my job, isn’t it?” he said, winking. “To make you feel things?”
I rolled my eyes playfully, but the truth was, he was right. He had this way of making me feel everything so intensely—love, joy, nervousness. With him, there was no middle ground, just extremes. And I loved him for it.
As we stood there, the buzz of the show still in the air, I realized how far we had come in these last two months. All the struggles, the doubts, the moments of confusion—they had all led us to this point. A point where I could look at Van and know, without a shadow of a doubt, that he was my person.
“Come on, love.” he said, pulling me gently by the hand. “Let’s go celebrate.”
I raised an eyebrow. “Celebrate how?”
A mischievous grin spread across his face. “Oh, you’ll see!”
“You’re really planning this out, huh?” I teased.
He shrugged, looking proud of himself. “You deserve the best.”
As we left the venue, the cool night air hitting our skin, I leaned into Van, feeling a wave of gratitude wash over me. Not just for him, but for the journey we’d been on. For the way we found each other in the chaos, and how we kept finding each other, no matter what.
As we walked down the street, hand in hand, the lights of the city twinkling around us, I couldn’t help but think that for the first time in what felt like forever, I wasn’t scared of what came next. I was excited.
We walked peacefully through the quiet streets, the night wrapping around us like a soft blanket. Van’s hand in mine was such a new, exciting feeling that I couldn’t help but flush every time I glanced down at our intertwined fingers. It felt different now—like we were finally crossing into something more. We really looked like a couple.
“I think this is it,” Van said, letting go of my hand for a brief moment to pat his pockets, searching for something.
I raised an eyebrow, curious as he unlocked the door to a place I hadn’t noticed until now. The sound of the key turning in the lock echoed softly in the stillness, and when the door swung open, I let out a small gasp.
“What is this?” I asked, stepping forward into the warm, dimly lit room.
Van smiled, closing the door behind us. “I booked it for us. This night is just for the two of us, (Y/N). No distractions, no interruptions.”
I turned to face him, my heart pounding in my chest. The space was intimate, with candles flickering on the windowsills and a soft, inviting atmosphere that made me feel instantly at ease. The quiet hum of the city outside seemed miles away, and for the first time in a while, everything felt still—like time had paused just for us.
“You… booked this for us?” I repeated, still trying to process what was happening.
He nodded, his gaze warm and steady. “I wanted to do something special. You’ve been through a lot, and I just wanted tonight to be about us. No shows, no crowds. Just you and me.”
My chest swelled with emotion, and I felt the weight of his words settle over me in the most comforting way. It was as if all the walls I had built around myself were slowly crumbling, and here, in this moment, I allowed myself to fully feel how much I wanted this—how much I wanted him.
I stepped closer to him, feeling the pull between us like a magnetic force. “This is perfect, Van,” I whispered, my voice soft and full of gratitude.
He smiled, brushing a strand of hair behind my ear. “Good. Because I’ve been wanting to spend a night like this with you for a while.”
I blushed, the intensity of his gaze making my stomach flip. “I don’t know what to say…”
“You don’t have to say anything,” he replied, his voice low and reassuring. “Just… be here with me.”
I nodded, feeling a warmth spread through me that was both calming and exhilarating. Van took my hand again, leading me further into the room where a cozy seating area awaited us. He sat down first, gently tugging me to join him, and I settled into his arms, feeling the safety of his embrace.
For a few moments, we just sat there, the soft glow of the candles illuminating his face. His eyes never left mine, and I felt like I could get lost in the tenderness that radiated from him.
“This… this is more than I ever expected,” I whispered, resting my head on his chest. His heartbeat was steady and strong beneath me.
Van pressed a kiss to the top of my head. “You deserve it, (Y/N). You deserve more than just pieces of me, or pieces of this life. I want to give you everything.”
I looked up at him, and for the first time, I allowed myself to fully believe him. To believe that we could have this, that we could be together without the weight of doubt dragging me down.
And in that moment, with the city outside fading into a blur, it felt like we could make it work—like maybe this was the beginning of something beautiful.
“And I’m going to start with this,” Van said, pulling a small box from his pocket. My breath caught in my throat as he opened it to reveal half of a golden moon necklace—an exact match to the one he wore around his neck.
The delicate curve of the half-moon glinted in the candlelight, and I realized it was meant to fit perfectly with the other half on his chest. My heart swelled at the thought, and when I looked up at him, his eyes were soft, filled with a depth of emotion that made my pulse race.
“You complete me, (Y/N),” he said quietly, gesturing to the necklace on his chest. “I’m so proud of you, and I want to keep being here for you. Every step of the way.”
“Van, this is beautiful,” I whispered, my voice trembling as I reached out to touch the necklace. My hands were shaking, overwhelmed by the significance of the moment. It was more than just a piece of jewelry—it was a promise, a symbol of everything we had become, and everything we could be.
“And it’s yours,” Van said, his voice filled with sincerity as he placed the necklace in my palm.
I felt tears well up in my eyes, the weight of his words wrapping around me like a warm embrace.
Slowly, I lifted the necklace, watching as Van reached out to help me fasten it around my neck. When it settled against my chest, it felt right—like it had always been meant to be there.
Our eyes met again, and in that moment, it wasn’t just the necklace that connected us. It was everything—the trust, the support, the quiet understanding that had been building between us all this time.
“I love it,” I finally said, my voice barely above a whisper.
Van smiled, leaning in to press a soft kiss against my forehead. “Good. Because I meant every word.”
Van pulled back slightly after kissing my forehead, his eyes searching mine with a warmth that made my heart flutter. There was a softness in his expression, but also a seriousness that I hadn’t seen before. He took a deep breath, still holding my hand, his thumb gently brushing against my skin.
“(Y/N),” he began, his voice low and steady. “I’ve been thinking about this for a while now, and… I don’t want to wait anymore.”
I felt my breath catch, the weight of his words settling between us. My heart pounded as he continued, his gaze never leaving mine.
“I don’t just want to be the guy you tour with or the one you have these moments with,” he said, his tone sincere and unwavering. “I want to be the guy you call yours. Officially. I want to be your boyfriend, if you’ll have me.”
My heart swelled, a mix of excitement and disbelief washing over me. I’d felt the pull between us for so long, but hearing him say the words made everything feel real, like something I had dared not imagine was finally unfolding.
“You… you really mean that?” I whispered, barely able to contain the smile that was tugging at my lips.
“More than anything,” he replied, his voice filled with certainty. “I want to be with you, (Y/N). For real.”
A wave of emotion rushed through me, and I couldn’t help but grin. “Yes,” I breathed, nodding quickly. “Yes, I want that too. I want you.”
Van’s face lit up, his smile broad and genuine as he pulled me into his arms, holding me tightly. “You have no idea how happy that makes me,” he murmured, his breath warm against my ear.
I laughed softly, feeling a sense of peace and excitement all at once. “I think I might have an idea.”
Van pulled back just enough to look at me, his eyes shining. “So, it’s official?” he asked, a playful glint in his gaze.
“It’s official,” I confirmed, my heart soaring as he kissed me softly.
As we pulled apart I glanced around the room, taking in the soft glow of the lights, the intimacy of the space he had chosen just for us. My chest tightened with emotion as I looked back at him. “This is all so beautiful, Van,” I whispered. “I didn’t expect any of this.”
He held my gaze, his thumb gently stroking the back of my hand. “You mean everything to me, and I wanted to show you that. I want this night to be the start of something even more special between us.”
I smiled, feeling a lump form in my throat. “You’ve already given me more than I ever thought I’d have, just by being here.”
Van leaned in, his lips brushing mine in a tender kiss. “Then let me keep doing that,” he whispered against my lips. “Every day, for as long as you’ll let me.”
I couldn’t resist any longer and wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him closer as I deepened the kiss. “Take me to bed,” I whispered, my voice breathless. “I don’t want to wait anymore.”
Van paused for a moment, his eyes searching mine, making sure he understood exactly what I was asking for. He brushed a strand of hair away from my face, his fingers lingering softly against my cheek.
“Are you sure?” he asked, his voice gentle, full of care.
I nodded, my heart racing. “I’ve never been more sure.”
He smiled, a look of both love and desire crossing his face. “Okay,” he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. He leaned in to kiss me again, this time slower, more deliberate, as if savoring every second of it.
Without breaking the kiss, Van scooped me up into his arms, carrying me towards the bed. The way he held me made me feel cherished, safe. When he gently laid me down on the bed, he hovered over me for a moment, just looking at me.
“You’re so beautiful,” he said softly, his fingers tracing the outline of my face.
My heart swelled at his words, and I felt a warmth bloom in my chest. “I love you, Van,” I whispered.
He smiled again, leaning down to kiss me tenderly. “I love you,” he whispered softly “I want this to be perfect for you.”
“It’s already perfect because it’s you.”
As he kissed me deeply, his hands explored my body with a slow, deliberate tenderness, and I felt a wave of anticipation wash over me.
We were finally going to share this moment, and it felt like everything had led to this, as if this was where we were always meant to end up.
“We don’t have to rush,” Van murmured against my lips, his voice gentle and reassuring. “I’ll go at your pace.”
His hands slid down my side, brushing the edge of my panties, and a delicious shiver ran through me. “Are you ready for this?”
I nodded, biting my lip to stifle the moan that threatened to slip out. “Yeah,” I whispered.
Van’s eyes locked on mine, his gaze burning with heat as he teased me, the thin fabric of my panties rubbing against my clit in a way that sent sparks shooting through me. He kissed me again, his tongue twining with mine as he slowly dipped his fingers under the edge of my underwear.
“Oh God,” I gasped as his fingertips brushed over my clit, the touch sending a jolt of electricity through my entire body.
He pressed soft kisses along my jaw as he teased me with his hand, his fingers slowly playing over my clit, drawing out every drop of pleasure he could. I clung to him, feeling overwhelmed, and yet still wanting more.
“Van,” I whimpered, my head tilting back, my eyes fluttering closed.
“You okay?” He whispered, his voice still raspy, his hand stilling slightly. “Is this okay?”
I nodded, a soft moan slipping from my lips as he slowly continued his gentle teasing. “Don’t stop,” I breathed. “Feels so good.”
He leaned in, sucking softly at my neck, drawing out another shudder of pleasure. His fingers began moving again, this time more insistently, rubbing against my clit as he kissed me deeply.
Van’s lips curved into a slow smile as he leaned down, his mouth closing over my nipple. I gasped, my hands going to the back of his head, holding him close as he licked and sucked at my skin.
“God, you’re beautiful,” Van rasped, his breath hot against my breast. “Your tits are so pretty, baby.”
I moaned, the praise sending another wave of desire through me. His mouth felt incredible on my skin, the rasp of his tongue and the gentle tug of his teeth sending heat pulsing through my core.
“Fuck,” I whispered, arching my back, my hips grinding upward involuntarily.
He chuckled, his breath sending goosebumps over my skin. “Are you trying to rub your pretty pussy all over me?” He asked, nuzzling his face into my chest.
I felt my face flush with heat, and I nodded. “Yes.”
He sucked a nipple into his mouth, and I cried out, the feeling of his wet heat on my skin overwhelming me. My clit pulsed with each beat of my heart, and my legs trembled beneath him.
I gasped into the kiss, feeling my legs begin to tremble. It felt like my entire body was on fire, every part of me yearning for more, aching for release. His name slipped from my lips as his fingers pressed more firmly against me, stroking over my clit with a rhythm that had my toes curling into the bedding.
“Van,” I cried out, the sensation building in me, a delicious pressure that threatened to break at any second.
“That’s it,” he breathed against my lips. “Let go, love”
His words pushed me over the edge, the pressure inside me snapping like a thread pulled too tight. I arched under him, my mouth open in a silent scream of pleasure as I rode out the waves of ecstasy that surged through me.
As I came down from the high, my pulse slowly steadying, Van pressed a soft kiss to my forehead.
“I love you so much,” he murmured, holding me close. “You look so beautiful right now.”
I smiled shyly, feeling like I was floating. “You make me feel amazing.”
Van smiled back, his eyes soft, filled with affection. “You do the same for me.” He stroked my cheek gently. “Are you ready to take this further?”
I nodded, feeling a thrill run through me at the thought of what was still to come. “Yeah, I’m ready.”
Van pressed a soft kiss to the curve of my shoulder and continued to stroke over my clit, his fingers teasing me slowly, deliberately.
“Can I taste you?” He murmured, his gaze flicking up to mine.
I nodded quickly, my mouth drying out as he lowered himself between my thighs.
The first flick of his tongue sent a jolt of pleasure through me, and I bit my lip, stifling the cry of surprise that threatened to escape. He licked over me again, this time with a more deliberate, insistent pressure.
“Oh,” I gasped, my hands grasping at his hair as his tongue danced over me. “Feels so good, Van.”
He hummed softly, the vibration sending another rush of pleasure through me. His mouth was hot on me, his tongue sliding over my sensitive skin with a rhythm that threatened to undo me at any moment.
I moaned loudly, my back arching as he continued to lick over me, sending wave after wave of sensation through me. He pulled back briefly, just long enough to press a kiss against my inner thigh.
“God, I could eat you all night,” he murmured.
The words sent a shiver through me, and he continued to tease my sensitive flesh, drawing out the pleasure until I felt like I was going to explode.
He slowly sucked over my clit, his mouth pulling me into his rhythm, and my hands twisted in his hair, holding him close as I trembled with pleasure.
“Van,” I gasped, the pressure washing down on me once more.
As the feeling slowly ebbed, I felt like I was melting, my limbs like liquid as I lay limp on the bed. Van pulled back, his lips shiny with my wetness as he looked up at me.
“Fuck,” he groaned, his expression filled with admiration. “You taste so good.”
My cheeks flushed at his words, and I couldn’t stop a soft laugh from slipping out. “You’re amazing,” I said, my voice still slightly raspy from all the panting.
Van climbed up my body, his lips meeting mine in a deep, lingering kiss that left my head spinning. “No,” he murmured. “That was you.”
As our lips separated, he reached over to the bedside table, pulling open the top drawer. I watched with wide eyes as he took out a condom, ripping the foil open with his teeth before sliding it onto his shaft.
I swallowed thickly, my pulse racing once more as he lowered his body over mine, settling his weight between my thighs. “How do you want it?” He asked, his voice strained with tension as his erection nudged at my entrance.
“I want you,” I said simply. “However you want.”
A soft growl sounded in the back of Van’s throat, and he leaned in to kiss me as he slowly began to push inside me.
The sensation was both overwhelming and exquisite, the feeling of him filling me sending a rush of pleasure through every part of my body. It was a stretch, but not uncomfortable, and I felt like my whole body had been waiting for this moment to come alive.
“Oh,” I moaned, the sound slipping from my lips as Van slid in deeper.
His gaze was intense as he looked into my eyes. “How’s it feel?” He asked, the words coming out between ragged breaths.
I licked my lips, my pulse pounding. “It feels… incredible,” I whispered.
Van groaned softly, and then began to move, his body rocking against mine with a slow, deliberate rhythm that had me panting within seconds. It felt like every nerve ending in my body was on fire as he thrust deeper, sending shockwaves of sensation through every part of me.
“Oh,” I cried out, his name slipping from my lips unbidden. “Oh, oh, oh.”
Van continued to move slowly, his movements controlled and deliberate, as if he wanted to draw out every second of pleasure. His hands stroked over my body, teasing at my skin as he rocked against me with a rhythm that seemed designed to drive me wild.
“God,” I moaned, my head tilting back as he thrust deeper. “This feels so good.”
“I know, baby,” he panted. “Your cunt feels so fucking good.”
His words sent another jolt of sensation through me, and a desperate moan tore from my lips. “Fuck,” I panted, my legs tightening around his waist.
Van pulled back slightly, his hands gripping my thighs as he lifted them. “I want to see you,” he breathed. “I want to watch me fucking you.”
The dirty talk had my insides melting, and I nodded quickly as I felt the change in position. He slid out of me for a second, and then pushed back in, deeper this time, his hips snapping against mine with a rough rhythm that left me breathless.
“Holy shit,” I cried out, clinging to his shoulders as he pounded me harder, his cock driving deep inside me with each thrust.
“You look fucking beautiful,” Van panted, his eyes locked on where his shaft disappeared inside me. “Your pussy looks so perfect taking my cock.”
His filthy words had my cheeks flushing, but I felt nothing but arousal at his crude talk. “Yes,” I moaned.
He groaned at my words, his hips pumping harder against mine as he fucked me with an intensity that threatened to overwhelm. “God,” I screamed, my body arching under his, my hands twisting in the sheets.
“That’s it, baby,” Van growled, his eyes burning with heat as they locked on mine. “Come for me. Let me feel you clench around my cock.”
The pressure inside me snapped, and I cried out his name as a wave of pleasure crashed over me. I felt like I was trembling apart, the sensation coursing through my entire body with a force that left me breathless. Van didn’t relent, his hips continuing to thrust against mine as he drew out every ounce of pleasure”
Finally, he stilled, his breathing ragged and hoarse as he looked down at me. “That was fucking incredible,” he panted.
I nodded, still trying to catch my breath. “You made it incredible.”
He smiled softly, leaning in to kiss me deeply. “I love you, (Y/N),” he whispered.
“I love you too.” I wrapped my arms around his neck and hugged him. “More than words can say. More than anything.”
Van hugged me back, holding me tight, the two of us lying on the bed in silence for several moments, basking in the warm glow that surrounded us. Eventually, he pulled back, stripping off the condom before disposing of it in the bin. He then pulled on his boxer shorts and settled back beside me.
His arms came around me once more, pulling me flush against his body as he buried his face in my neck. “I’m so grateful for this,” he murmured against my skin. “For us, and for our love. You make everything brighter, (Y/N). I hope you know that.”
I smiled, feeling my heart swell with emotion. “You’re pretty great yourself,” I whispered back. “And you make me feel incredible in ways I never thought possible. I’m the lucky one here.”
Van’s arms tightened around me, holding me even closer to him as we both drifted into a light sleep.
The feeling of being safe, loved, and cherished was overwhelming, and I knew in that moment that this was where I was meant to be.
It wasn’t the cigarettes I craved anymore—it was him. The warmth of his presence, the way his eyes lingered on me like I was the only thing that mattered, the way his touch sent shivers down my spine.
And it was exactly what I needed. Exactly what I wanted.
And exactly what I had.

Fanfic: A La Carte (Part 1: Appetizer)
It’s a big part of what makes us human; believing we have a soul that needs to be fed, too. So this one has been in the works for a little longer than the others! Not only has my Discord “job” been keeping me VERY busy, but I also wasn’t sure where to go with this, exactly... but after seeing a certain art post yesterday, I know now... and I also know it needs to be a 2-parter. Yep, this one’s LONG, folks. And it’s about food! I’d like to give my thanks once again to @chronicsheepdrawing for their wonderful designs and autistic character headcanons. This is going to be less angst, more fluff this time, so content warnings are a little more sparse! May we all experience moments of Autistic Joy like those found in this story. Happy Autism Acceptance Month! Part 3 of a series: Anything Not Saved A Perfect Moment
CONTENT WARNINGS: Body Dysphoria (Not Gender Related), Messy Eating, References to Sensory Deprivation, Mild Sensory Overload
So whose birthday do you think it is this time? Ah, yes, I suppose it DOES say “Happy Celebration To Whomever”, doesn’t it? It might not even BE a birthday. It might even be celebrating all of the incredibly productive work we’ve been doing! Gosh, imagine that! FINALLY some recognition for all those years of- …And you’re gone. Of course. No doubt you have more important things to do than talk to the likes of me. Honestly, I don’t even know WHY I bother - I swear, it’s almost like some sort of COMPULSION! Just rambling on, and on, and on, and… oh dear, and I’m even doing it when there’s nobody to listen… …Hm. Actually, come to think of it… I wonder if he got the memo… ? 427? Ah, Employee 427? Hello? …Stanley, it’s ME - open the door! Oh, there you are Stanley! I do hope I wasn’t interrupting anything; oh, you were waiting for-? Well you… you didn’t HAVE to, you do realize that, right?? You were really just going to sit in your office, pushing your buttons, until I just HAPPENED to call out to you? I mean for heaven’s sake, Stanley! Don’t you want to take the initiative for even ONCE in your career? It could result in you getting promoted! Or possibly- well, probably more than likely, fired. But aren’t some things worth the- …What do you MEAN you already got one?? I just BROUGHT you a- Oh. Oh Stanley, you-you didn’t! You didn’t… heeheehee, really!? Well come onl, come on, get inside, quick! Shh! SHH!! Hahahahaaa, I can’t believe it!! I can’t BELIEVE you-what? NO, I’m not going to TELL! Gosh, what do you take me for, Stanley?? I mean you’re one of our most valuable employees; who ELSE could push buttons like you can, I ask you?? No-one, that’s who! Though I must say, haha, I never would have pegged YOU as the secret Bad Boy of the office! Mister Employee Four-Twenty-Seven, pilfering an extra slice of cake from under everyone’s collective nose! They’ll never suspect a thing! Hahaha…! …Oh come now, stop that, we’re not going to get CAUGHT. And even if we did, it’s probably my fault, anyway. Ugh, I must be a truly terrible influence on you, Stanley, I really must… it’s that horrid little rebellious streak in me. Probably why I never seem to get anywhere in this bloody office… Ah? Oh thank you Stanley, I’d love some coffee. Little more sugar if you could- yes, and- oh, you remembered! Ah yes, that’s lovely, I… oh, um, are you sure? I know how much everyone looks forward to our scheduled Standard Issue Office Sheet Cake, but you took that fair and - oh GO ON then, you absolute rascal! Since you’ve already cut it and everything… heh. Happy Whatever-It-Is, Stanley… —————————————————————————————————- This is a story about a man named Stanley. Today - if there even is such a thing as a ‘day’ any more - Stanley is in the Employee Break Room. A place he’d stopped by countless times previously, just to admire; the gray walls and dark blue carpet as comforting and familiar as they ever were. The couch; just as soft, yet firm enough to encourage the good sitting posture that was vital for employees. The whole place still smelling vaguely of printer ink, paper, and coffee. It was quiet now, given that all of Stanley’s coworkers had mysteriously vanished, leaving him alone in the office. Or, well… not quite alone. Not any more. Next to Stanley, on the couch, sat his Narrator. Some time ago, they’d had a fateful - and completely intentional, absolutely no mistakes were made - encounter in The Memory Zone. And since then, he’d decided to stick around. It just felt far more comfortable than unloading his model; it gave him something to anchor himself to, something that reminded him he was real. And all things considered, it wasn’t that bad. Even if he was still slowly learning to tolerate his… eh… he twisted the words around in his head, tossing aside epithets like “silly-looking” and “bizarre”, completely ignoring “ugly” and “monstrous” for a change, before finally settling on something. Unusual form. Yes, that will do for now… Ahem. Anyway; overall, The Narrator was, at least, willing to tolerate the unusual situation he’d found himself in. Since then, he’d found there was one thing more important to him than how he felt… and that was how Stanley, his protagonist, felt. After all; without him and without his co-operation, there was no story. There was no Stanley Parable without Stanley. So of course, as his Narrator, he couldn’t have him become lonely or depressed. Especially since the last time the Parable ended, The Narrator could have sworn they’d finally found freedom… They’d finally stepped outside; onto real grass and real dirt! Surrounded by real trees, under a real sky! On his very life, he could have sworn that they had... and yet… like a dream, or perhaps a burning memory, curling up in the flames like a discarded photograph, they’d found themselves back here. In the office. Right where they’d started. Perhaps they’d made a mistake somewhere… Stanley moved his hands, and the Narrator glanced downward. No, wait, he wasn’t saying anything; he was just fidgeting. And, he noticed, Stanley’s head had been resting against his shoulder - but it seemed from his half-laying, half-sprawled position on the couch, he’d slid down until his ear now rested against the Narrator’s stomach. Something that - the Narrator now realized - had probably been intentional. It was a comfort thing for him, apparently. Something about the liquid sloshing around in there helped him calm down. And perhaps it was the weight of Stanley’s head, or the soft sound of his breathing, or the gentle touch of his button-calloused fingers, but the Narrator couldn’t help but feel calmer too. It made things seem more… alright. Not entirely alright; not just after what they’d both been through, but more alright in himself. Like maybe he didn’t hate this body quite as much as he had previously. It certainly seemed to help keep his thoughts from going to much darker places... Stanley moved his hands again. The Narrator heaved a huge sigh. “Stanley, if you’re going to say something, just say it. I know you were disappointed with how our story ended, but we can’t try again if we just sit here and stew in our own failure… slow-cooking in regret… a crock-pot of misery and hopelessness, with a side dish of pointlessness, and a bitter-sweet ‘we’re never going to get out but at least we’re still here’ sauce… ” The Narrator’s words caught in his throat, and he stopped himself before he choked on them. No, no, he wasn’t going to let this get to him! This was his story! Nobody could tell him how to feel about it except him! He wasn’t about to backslide into utterly crushing despair… No, not him… definitely not… <Do you miss being human?> “W-what??” The Narrator boggled - he’d retired, undefeated, from Professional Boggling, but still boggled casually when the mood called for it - and looked down at Stanley. “You… “ He wondered for a moment how Stanley had remembered, but… of course he had. Back in the Memory Zone, they’d talked for hours, perhaps even longer, and of course sooner or later, everything had to come out. The fact that The Narrator still had memories of being human, once. Memories of having a real face, with makeup he’d painstakingly applied with real hands, that in turn had real nails, painted in office-appropriate colors. And how he couldn’t remember what he looked like, or what his name had been, but- “...You already know how I feel about that, Stanley. I can’t go back.” Somehow, the thought of returning to that time terrified him. Slowly, something had been coming together, at the core of the shattered funhouse mirror that made up his memories. Something that stared into his soul with a white-hot, searing sense of wrongness. Something that gave him no choice but to look away. I can’t go back to what I was before. I can’t. <I know that.> Stanley signed; taking a moment to sit up, he paused to think about what he was going to sign, as he often did. <But you really don’t miss anything?> “Stanley-” The Narrator started with a warning tone. Stanley certainly liked to push buttons; and apparently not only did he not know when to quit, but his obsession with button-pushing also applied to pushing other people’s buttons. But The Narrator couldn’t deny; the look on Stanley’s face held no malice. It was the same way he looked at The Narrator’s hands, when he ran his thumb over the line of stitches. The same way he watched the liquid inside his transparent globe of a belly slosh back and forth, and the way the light reflected off his plastic eyes. He remembered when Stanley had noticed his tie resembled The Stanley Parable Adventure Line™, and the biggest smile had crossed his face as his fingers traced its shape and felt its silky texture, wide eyes drinking in its bright color. Then they’d both just sat for a while, and reminisced about how they’d teamed up for the mis-adventure dubbed The Confusion Ending... It was pure, simple curiosity on Stanley’s face. The Narrator felt his cheeks flush involuntarily; it seemed he was still inexplicably fascinated by everything about him. And that, apparently, included what was inside his head. <I was just asking because…> Stanley hesitated again, looking away nervously. <Because you were talking about food. Do you miss it?> “Talking about-? Wait, was I - oh! Oh, Stanley… ” The Narrator laughed a little; “That was a metaphor! I wasn’t literally talking about those things, I was simply describing-” Stanley shook his head vigorously; waving his hands. Oh no. He wanted him to stop talking. The Narrator’s words had apparently got him thinking, and now he was practically buzzing with questions, a torrent of them starting to spill out like angry hornets from a disturbed nest. <Do you ever get hungry?> “I, ah… ” Did he feel hungry? He’d never really thought about it, but come to think of it… no. He’d never felt hungry; not once since he’d woken up like this. No urge to eat meant he’d never even tried to, though he had no reason to believe he couldn’t… and what was equally strange was he’d had no urge to drink, either. Or sleep! Or - well, this one was convenient, at least - use the facilities. And yet somehow it had never crossed his mind that this was unusual at all-? The Narrator wondered for a moment if it was simply the way his body was now; transformed from a mere human into some kind of immortal and ever-moving construct, perhaps by a Higher Power with a twisted sense of humor. But then… that couldn’t be true, could it? Because now that he thought about it; not only had he never felt hungry or thirsty since The Parable began, but neither had Stanley. But Stanley - dear, simple Stanley - seemingly hadn’t noticed anything was amiss. And he was still persisting in asking questions. <Do you still eat?> “I don’t have to.” The Narrator said curtly, prickling with defensiveness. “Why is this so important to you, exactly?” Dodging the Narrator’s question like a protagonist from a much more exciting genre would dodge bullets, Stanley was already tilting his head quizzically, locking and loading yet another question. He squinted, like he was trying to make sense of something. The Narrator squinted back. The questions were already annoying him, but there was very little that irritated him more than being ignored, and he was about to launch into a lengthy rant when Stanley pointed to his face and asked... <Where is your mouth?> “What!?” The Narrator huffed, immediately caught off-guard by such a ridiculous question. “I mean, really?? Goodness, Stanley, I can’t believe you have to ask that! Obviously it’s right here!” He pointed to his mouth. Stanley just looked hopelessly confused. “Ugh, don’t look at me like that... you look like a puppy with a headache.” The Narrator sighed, rolling his eyes a little as he relented. Evidently, this wasn’t going to stop unless he did something to stop it. “Alright, just give me a moment. This should put an end to all these bloody questions… ” He reached into his memories. No, not all of them were smashed, broken, piled up in ways that only sort-of made sense like some kind of junk yard - oh no, not at all! Events, people, faces, things that had happened when he’d used to be human, anything that was complicated was a mess… but memories of things? Ah yes, things! Things were simple. He could handle things; hell, he’d even fabricated an entire Memory Zone out of things! Things were great! In fact, things were fantastic. There was no way things could possibly end badly. So of course, taking a memory of a simple chocolate chip cookie and manifesting it was hardly any effort at all; Stanley jumped a little as it appeared in The Narrator’s hand with a small ‘pop’. “Since you’re so utterly fixated on this for some reason, Stanley - allow me to demonstrate.” He took a bite. ————————————————————————————————— Meanwhile; a man named Stanley wasn’t entirely sure what he’d just seen happen. Nor was he entirely sure what he was still seeing, right in front of him, right now, as the Narrator took a second bite of the cookie he’d just created out of seemingly nothing, with the mouth he didn’t seem to have. But he was chewing all the same, complete with crunching sounds as if he had teeth… and there was a distant look crossing his face for a moment, as if he was taking a moment to taste it… “Mm, that is… my, that is actually rather good… ” said The Narrator, his voice slightly muffled from a mouthful of cookie. “In fact it's very good - I think perhaps I’ve outdone myself!” He brought the dessert level with his face, and - again! - a big bite suddenly disappeared. Stanley couldn’t help but stare. Not just because of how unreal it looked, but because The Narrator looked… happy. Very happy. His whole body seemed to have relaxed; and as he took another bite he actually made small, happy sounds, one of his glove-hands touching his own cheek as he rocked back and forth on his heels. “Mm… mm! Oh, I wasn’t expecting… Stanley, I know I made this, but this really tastes home-made! It’s simply del-i-cious!“ - munch, crunch - “So crisp! And chewy in the center… dark chocolate chips, a little sprinkle of salt… my gosh, it’s divine!” Stanley watched as The Narrator… licked the chocolate off his fingers? Somehow he knew that was what he was doing, even though he didn’t see a tongue. Trying to make sense of it, as the man pulled a napkin from his pocket and cleaned himself off, was starting to make his head feel weird… “Oh, Stanley! You simply must try one!” The Narrator said eagerly, offering a cookie with his other hand - he actually laughed a little, the experience having made him almost giddy. “Go ahead, it’s not going to bite you!” Stanley hadn’t even heard a ‘pop’ this time and yet here it was - another cookie, being held between glove-fingers, right under his nose. He looked at it for a moment; just like the other cookie, it had come from seemingly nowhere. But the smell of vanilla and brown sugar was real enough to make his mouth water, and the chocolate chips almost seemed to glisten under the office lights, like they were just slightly melted… “Oh come on, Stanley! I make an entire Memory Zone for you to walk through, and a bloody cookie is what makes you stand there, mouth agape??” The Narrator snapped, irritated by Stanley’s continued hesitation. “This is quite the treat, I’ll have you know!” Stanley carefully reached out his hand. “Don’t make me change my mind, because I will scoff the entire thing if you don’t.” Stanley snatched the cookie like it might run away from him and took a big bite. Immediately, Stanley exhaled through his nose; yes, now he understood. Now he felt that tingling from his very core; that rapidly rising tide of joy! The cookie was warm, and sweet, and its perfectly crispy edge practically melted on his tongue like buttery cotton candy. The crunchy exterior and soft, chewy interior were a symphony of textures. The chunky, bittersweet dark chocolate was a rich, heavy bass. And popping here and there to balance out all that sugar were little crystalline flakes of sea salt, that came in a flash and vanished like falling stars… He couldn’t remember the last time he’d had a cookie this good. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d had a cookie. And now he desperately wanted a glass of milk to go with it. Stanley gestured frantically at the Narrator, hardly able to form a coherent sign. “A glass of-? Oh of course, what was I thinking!” Another pop, and there was suddenly a glass of milk in his hand. Suppressing his excitement for just a moment, Stanley steeled his nerves and sipped, letting the ice-cold drink contrast the gentle heat... and sighed. It tasted like how a warm blanket felt in the night air; his whole body wrapped in a comforting, nostalgic hug, made all the sweeter from the chill that lurked just on the edge. “Stanley, are you alright? You’re not allergic to something, are you?” The Narrator asked, squinting at him. “You’ve got a funny look on your face… ” Stanley couldn’t answer. Stanley was frozen in place. Stanley felt like he might cry. Stanley was unbelievably, overwhelmingly happy. Stanley desperately wanted to stim; to flap his hands out of sheer, overwhelming excitement, wrap his arms around himself and rock back and forth as his heart fluttered in his chest… but obviously he couldn’t, not with a cookie in one hand and a drink in the other. Then a particularly mischievous thought crept its way into his head, very softly, on tiptoe… and Stanley bit his lip. He shouldn’t. He really, really shouldn’t. He did. Stanley tore into the cookie like he was starving to the point of near-death; alternating between it and the milk in desperate gulps, crumbs falling between his fingers. He devoured the snack without any regard for table manners, office etiquette, or anything vaguely resembling human dignity - and he relished every single precious, visceral second of it, ending his frenzy with an utterly contented sigh. He stimmed gently, touching the backs of his own hands, enjoying the moment... “You, ah, must have been… hungry.” Then Stanley turned towards The Narrator. The smile fell from his face. And it may as well have shattered into pieces on the floor, from what he saw. The Narrator looked… pale. Almost like he was about to faint. Almost like he was expecting to get the worst news he’d ever heard in his life; news which would break his heart in such a way it would never heal right, and he’d carry this moment’s phantom pain for a lifetime. And Stanley, somehow, could tell clear as day what he was thinking… much like The Narrator seemed able to read his thoughts sometimes… In his obsessive quest to get his perfect ending, had he let his protagonist starve? <NO, NO!> Stanley shook his head, waving his hands in protest. He hadn’t been hungry, not at all! He knew he hadn’t been hungry in a long time and that had never really bothered him! After all, as The Narrator’s very important and heroic Protagonist, he’d had no shortage of very important and heroic things to do! But… Looking at the remaining chocolate stains on his shaking hands, he couldn’t deny, something else inside him had been absolutely ravenous. Something that had been so, so hungry, and was so, so thankful to be finally fed. With that hunger finally sated, there was a warm feeling curled up cozily inside him, like a purring cat on his chest. …It was almost like… “Like when you put your hand on me for the first time.” mused The Narrator, distantly. “You’re not hungry, but you haven’t tasted anything in hell knows how long… ” <And you haven’t, either!>, signed Stanley, a desperate, sympathetic look on his face. <Didn’t you ever make anything for yourself??> “I suppose the thought just never really occurred to me…” The Narrator sighed dejectedly, his face still a picture of regret. “I mean, I’m honestly surprised I even remembered how food tasted at all, but… knowing you were deprived of that joy… ?” Uh-oh. Stanley knew that look on The Narrator’s face; he only got that look when he was about to have another ‘crisis’, remembering or realizing something awful that sent him into a spiral of self-loathing and hopelessness. Sometimes he’d even ‘unload his model’ and disappear for what felt like hours, leaving nothing but the distant sound of sobbing; or worse, a horrible, yawning chasm of silence. Stanley reached out, gently taking the Narrator’s glove-hand, rubbing the back of it with his thumb; just like The Narrator did for him, when he felt overwhelmed. He just wanted him to be alright, please just be alright, but those big plastic eyes still looked so sad... “Oh, Stanley… you didn’t deserve that… ” The Narrator closed his eyes. He wasn’t crying, but Stanley listened to the sound and speed of his breathing, trying to gauge his mood, his emotions, trying to somehow figure this out and make him be alright again. Somehow, he had to try to take The Narrator’s focus off the idea that he’d hurt him… he needed to… he needed to sign something to snap him out of it, maybe? It was worth trying, if it meant even a slim chance of breaking the terrible, slowly rising tension. <Can you make more?> Not to mention the anxiety he himself was struggling to keep at bay; that maybe this time would be the time The Narrator wouldn’t come back. That he’d be alone again. And that it would be his fault somehow. “I… wait, what was that? Didn’t quite catch-” Stanley smiled excitedly; The Narrator had his eyes open again - and what was more, the stars had somehow aligned and fate had weaved its threads to grant him an idea! <You can make anything! You made the Memory Zone! You made the Baby Game! You even made me fly through space! So different kinds of food should be easy, right?> A cheeky little smirk crossed his face. <...Or is it too hard for you?> “WHAT?? Too HARD?!” The Narrator huffed, getting so riled up it almost looked like the liquid in his stomach was bubbling, boiling like a kettle. “Too hard indeed! What, do you think a vast, sprawling imagination like mine is restricted to mere snacks? That the depths of my wildest dreams contain no more than simple, infantile finger foods!?” Stanley relaxed his shoulders. Ah, much better; all he’d had to do was push the right buttons, and there was no more cringing, shrinking, or apologizing! The loud, proud, pompous voice that he adored was back! Though he’d have hardly called a chocolate chip cookie like that one ‘infantile’... “I mean after all, this is my story! And even if it is irrelevant to our ultimate goal, well, isn’t the journey just as important as the end? Is it not important to let our heroes breathe? To let them laugh, and love, and feast??” Stanley watched excitedly; The Narrator was gesturing energetically, pointing his finger in the air. He’d learned from their time together - that is, actually together, now that he could actually see him - that meant he was on a roll. And that always led somewhere interesting. “Well we shall feast! In fact, we shall have a veritable buffet!” Stanley snorted and bit his lip as he tried to keep a straight face; he’d pronounced it ‘boo-fay’, with a great amount of dramatic flair, which tickled him terribly. But he allowed him to continue… “Yes, a collection of culinary concoctions and creative cuisine! I see it now… there’ll be appetizers that delight and entrance! Entrees and side dishes, rivaling the banquets of kings! Desserts and patisserie to make you weep sugary tears of joy! Cocktails! A cheese course! Little things on sticks! Yes, yes, it’ll be fantastic! Stupendous, even! In fact, it’ll be-” …Until Stanley bravely put one hand on The Narrator’s shoulder, his gaze suddenly steely and determined. This could be his only chance he’d ever get for The Narrator to go along with an idea of his in its entirety. If he was going to do this, he was going to do it now - and he did, signing with his free hand. “A picnic in the Memory Zone… ?”

Today was weird and a lot. I went to urology where they gave me a catheter so they could make sure that the blood cells are really in the pee and didn’t come from some kind of contamination. That sucked - idk I mean it wasn’t too horrible but I just hate anyone fiddling with my junk and I can never relax my body adequately - and probably as a consequence I now have some residual pain. Anyway they got the results right away that yes the blood is coming from inside the house. So really no new information yet but now I have a kidney ultrasound scheduled for next week, and then the camera bladder exam in like a month. I asked if I could be sedated for that and they said probably not, but then called back to say I could have Valium at least, so that helps!
Then I saw my stepmom and BFF for lunch, and stepmom is kind of dysregulated in the wake of her mom’s death (like, as to be expected of course!) But we got into a mini snit about the date for the memorial - she did it for the weekend of my local sister’s birthday (aka, sister who has no relation to stepmom other than through me, but have become closer over the years). She wanted to invite my sister, and had told me that she’d do the inviting and then asked me to give my sister some extra background (like, make it clear that she is very welcome but also not at all obligated), so I asked my stepmom if she’d told her yet and she was right away kind of put out, like "no, I have so many people I need to contact, I don’t know when I will." I said "that’s fine, I had just thought you told me you wanted to be the one to extend the invite, but if not then I can tell her!" And she said "I want it done however makes it happen the fastest." Like - all of this is fine, she just had this tone as if I had been demanding her to drop everything and get that invite out to my sister asap! Instead of just like, clarifying order of operations. And then I said something about how I’d tell her today cause I’d want her to be able to hold the time if she didn’t already have birthday plans, and stepmom goes "well, I guess I’d say, a memorial only happens once, she can celebrate her birthday any day" which I thought was nasty. Idk I’m sure it’s just she’s stressed and sad, but my relationships with my sisters and the fact that I’m closer to the one who isn’t her daughter (who is closer to my age and who I spent most of my time with due to custody arrangements) has always been a hot button issue with her that she’s prone to lashing out about. UGH! But speaking of sisters, it will be nice to see my other sister at this memorial, at a time of year I usually would not get to see her.
Then I found found out I do get to move forward in the interview process for the internal posting I applied to, to be a "data solution engineer" on a different team. I’m so ambivalent cause like…if I was going to try to keep growing this career, that is the next role I’d want! But also I consider this desire to be a symptom of almost a brain parasite, cause what sane person would say they want to be a data solution engineer?? I’m joking, of course, lots of people probably do, but I guess what I’m trying to say is that for me personally, the desire to strive in this career is not totally genuine - it’s from this internalized belief that having a "good job" makes me safe and worthy, and so going after more and more is worthwhile just for the sake of having it. So then I’m like, maybe I should be trying to deprogram myself instead of preparing for an interview.

Wednesday, August 7th, 2024.
Who will you be spending Christmas with this year? Depending on what day it falls on and what my schedule looks like at the time, I will most likely be spending it at the animal shelter. The rest of the day will be spent at home with my dad. I'm sure I'll do something with my mom to celebrate Christmas too, but not necessarily on the day-of.
What time do you usually go to sleep at night? I go to bed super early (like 7pm-8pm); however, it takes me a while to fall asleep, so unconsciousness happens sometime around 9pm. I also typically wake up during the night and it takes me a bit to get back to sleep. Going to bed so early is pretty much the only thing that even halfway guarantees that I'll get at least 7-8 hours of solid sleep. Unfortunately, going to bed later with the hope that I'll fall asleep faster or sleep more deeply just shrinks that available window of opportunity.
Did you go to high school with your current best friend? No, but we did meet during my high school years.
Have you ever wanted to be vegetarian or vegan? I have been vegan/vegetarian at different points in my life, but not currently.
Do you park your car in a garage, carport or just in a driveway? I park it in the driveway. There's no room in the other half of our garage, but even if there was…lmao, I'm afraid I would park in there and I wouldn't be able to back out again. New driver problems, I guess. ;D
Have you ever been a passenger in a semi-trailer truck? Yeah. In childhood. We broke down on the way back from a grocery shopping trip in another city and a semi driver gave us a ride back into town.
Have you felt sick today? No. Just tired, but a good, satisfying type of tired.
Whose was the last funeral you attended? It was for the father of a past partner, back in 2009.
Have you read The Hunger Games trilogy? I have.
How many times a week do you wash your hair? A bunch. Twice on animal shelter days because I shower before and after, then at least once during my two days off. Like, sometimes I'll skip showering on one of the days if all I'm doing is going grocery shopping, but if I'm feeling gross or have therapy or some other social activity later in the day, then I'll take one.
Do you need to wash your hair right now? I guess I don't need to because I showered last night, but I will be showering shortly because I need to get ready to go to therapy before too much longer.
Do you avoid using public restrooms? Not really.
What is your boss’ (or school principal’s) name? I'm not going to give their real names (I've been using aliases for animal shelter staff for the sake of anonymity, plausible deniability, or what have you), but they will be referred to in this blog as Leslie and Iris.
Have you seen any extended relatives in the last month? I haven't.
Do you like eggnog? Yeah.
Is there anything important you need to do today? Therapy, wash my bedding, make some art, and spend some time with my kitties (I can tell they miss me now that I'm gone more often). Oh, and because I don't know if I'll get a chance to take a survey within the next few days, I'll just talk about some upcoming stuff. I'm going grocery shopping tomorrow morning and I need to pick up a bunch of doughnuts to bring in on Friday. It might be Cassie's last day, so I want to have a little going away celebration with the people in cattery. It's also going to be one of our community service worker's last days, so we're going to sneakily invite him back there as well. Plus Darrel - can't forget Darrel. And I'm getting enough so that the dog staff can have some too because I don't want them to feel left out, especially not with how kind they've all been to me.
Who is the person you dislike the most? Okay, you know when you work with someone who drives you up the wall with their behavior/personality? Then you find out they might be leaving (it's still a case of I'll believe it when I see it)? And you're like…damn, I'm actually gonna miss you a little bit. Maybe you're not so bad after all. And what if the person who replaces you is even worse? (It's Alex, lmao.)
Do you take part in paying the bills for your household? Yeah.
Have you ever properly listened to classical music? Did you like it? I don't know what you mean by properly, but I basically always listen to classical music whenever I'm in the car. I do like it.
Do your parents know how to text? Yeah.
Do you text your parents often? Not that often. I text my dad when I'm on my way home from the shelter after full days (sometimes we get finished much later than expected), and I text my mom only very occasionally.
What letter does your middle name begin with? A.
Do your initials spell an actual word? HAT.
What will you do when this survey is over? I'm actually going to stop here and go take my shower. I'll finish this later in the day, so you'll have your answer then… OKAY. I'm back from therapy. It was cancelled due to a family emergency. I had a snack, made some art, and after this…I think I'm going to lie in bed and listen to something on YouTube until lunchtime.
Do you know anyone with celiac disease? I don't think so.
How many siblings do you have? Are they all full siblings? I have one sibling.
What’s the weather like today? Sunny and hot.
Have you ever eaten a cinnamon donut? I might have.
What is the longest relationship you’ve ever been in? A few years.
How many times a day do you brush your teeth? Twice.
How do you usually celebrate New Years? I don't really do anything. I don't even bother staying up until midnight.
Is the place that you’re in right now quiet or loud? What can you hear? It's a little bit loud due to the swamp cooler.
Do you currently have any alarms set? No.
How many cars can fit in your driveway? You could probably squish four in there if you wanted to.
Do you like whiskey? I don't like the taste of hard liquor in general. Then again, I don't drink it for the taste.
When was the last time you ate, and what did you have? I had Greek yogurt with fruit, cereal, and chocolate syrup.

I have been an openly practicing pagan for over 20 years and my family still cannot be bothered to remember any of my holidays.
I don't expect them to join in, or remember what the holidays are celebrating. Hell, I don't even expect them to remember the names of the holidays - just that, "hey, there's a holiday today." I follow the Wheel of the Year for gods' sake, it's not hard.
And yet, not only will there be no acknowledgement of Yule tomorrow unless I bring it up, they scheduled a plumber to look at all the drains, and there's going to be not even the slightest mention that this might be disruptive on a day I invariably spend in religious activities.
It's so dispiriting.
