the thing about trying to recommend fiction podcasts to someone who isn't familiar with them is that not only are so so many genres represented but also the level of production can fall anywhere from "basically an audiobook" to "major motion picture minus the pictures"

Armand is someone who has been has been trained (in brothels, by Marius, and by 500+ years worth of life experience) to adapt himself to what the people around him want. Throughout seasons 1-2, different people get very different versions of Armand, depending on who they are and whoā€™s retelling the story at the time.
Itā€™s the primary way Armand protects himself, whether heā€™s a teenage sex slave or the oldest, strongest person in the room. Itā€™s how he controls people. Fundamentally, itā€™s the only way Armand knows to make people love him (an approximation of love at least). Worse, itā€™s the only way Armand knows how to love ā€” by twisting and contorting himself into whatever form he thinks his current obsession wants or needs him to be. He even does it to his victims for crying out loud.
And then hereā€™s Daniel, who is constantly seeking authenticity and truth. Whoā€™s bullshit detector is never ā€œoffā€. Who cannot tolerate any kind of masquerade, manipulation or lie ā€“ no matter how kind or well intentioned. Not out of any moral or ethical objection, but because Daniel simply cannot leave things well enough alone once something attracts his attention. He has to know. He has to see where it goes and how it ends.
ā€œItā€™s my job, Iā€™m built this wayā€
ā€œItā€™s in your nature, Mr Molloy. Couldnā€™t get out the door without lobbing one more bomb.ā€
Daniel knew something was off about ā€œRashidā€ from the beginning, so he began to pick the situation in Dubai apart until Armand revealed himself. And then he kept going until he completely destroyed the narrative Armand had spent 77 years constructing.
Daniel deliberately and systematically pulled ā€œArmand, Amadeo, Arunā€ apart and laid him bare with nothing but but a laptop, some free time, a near-suicidal disregard for his own personal safety and a mouth that just wouldnā€™t quit.
Thereā€™s power in being seen, in being known, ugly parts and all. What would it feel like, to be completely exposed like that for the first time in centuries?
So yeah it makes sense to me that Armand, who puts on all these acts and artifices to draw people in, but which only serve to ensure theyā€™re kept at a distance, would turn his big sad orange eyes on the person who blew them all to smithereens and be all ā€œā€¦I wanna do this forever, actually.ā€

Farcebook could at least make to the effort with these, so the other "Fact Check" is not as obviously bullshit.

Everyone whoā€™s complaining about Hera being the mc of war of the Rohirrim- genuinely who do you think should be the mc instead??
Because I reread the story in the appendices, and I understand that she doesnā€™t even get a name in the book, but sheā€™s literally the only character thatā€™s there for all the action and doesnā€™t die partway through.
Her brothers? Dead. Helm Hammerhand? Dead. Her cousin? Gone for most of the battles. And it makes way more sense to focus on Helmā€™s daughter- someone with deep emotional ties to all this loss, and an emotional tie to the villain- as opposed to focusing on some random soldier or general
Just say you hate women and leave it at that, donā€™t try to justify it with ā€˜I just want it to be accurate to the books!ā€™

There's this way of doing female-ness in Christianity that I call "pastel flower journal Christianity." I've got nothing against pastel flower journals per se, but for some reason people believe it's the end all and be all of female spirituality, and I think it's a real disservice towards young Christian women.
One of these days I'd like to start a prayer-and-reading group or something for young women, but there would be no floral themes or over-focus on how "God thinks you're beautiful even if the world doesn't" (a true statement, but it's wayyyyy too often the focus in women's spiritual reading). Instead we would be reading:
Seneca's Letters from a Stoic
Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning
Sheed's A Map of Life
Portions of Pieper's book on leisure
Kreeft's Three Philosophies of Life
Guardini's The Lord (or something similar)
Therese's Story of a Soul
and some select portions of the Nicomachean Ethics.
(Also they're all getting the porn talk. I don't know why we give the porn talk to young men but not young women. There's this idea that women don't use porn and they only need the talk about "guarding their heart." Bullshit. There's porn on the YA shelves of Barnes and Nobles and before that there were bodice rippers. Young women need the porn talk too.)
Every young woman needs to be getting a basic grounding in virtue ethics, logic, natural law, scholastic philosophy and Biblical hermeneutics if they're going to get by in today's spiritual landscape. Enough faffery and emotionalism in young women's spiritual education! Give them real food to chew on, not pasty sentimentalism!

booktok cannot handle unfriendly or emotionally complex female characters. show them a woman whoā€™s a little problematic and they start shaking and shitting themselves. women can be either be martyrs or victims, anything else and ppl short circuit. men can be fucked up emotionally manipulative mass murders but if women have one unpalatable emotion theyā€™re drawn & quartered.
if booktok bitches saw the female characters i liked they would piss blood for a week !!!!

i lied. put your clothes back on. weā€™re going to talk about how if dc didnā€™t kill off kara back in the 80s and made it a point to keep her dead for 18 years because of their misogyny, she wouldā€™ve been one of dcā€™s most prominent characters (like dick grayson is right now) with a 100+ issues run during the 90ā€™s, a great supporting cast and a variety of villains. instead, for the last 20 years, sheā€™s been deaged to a teen three times, each time more detrimental than the last. sheā€™s in the best position sheā€™s been ever since she came back because now sheā€™s an adult again, yet dc keeps giving her stories to be written by people who donā€™t understand her.

I'm trying to avoid getting spoiled so I haven't looked up what's happening in the Jp server's main story, but for my own sanity I need to ask; is the story at a point where we know whether Lilia will get better/survive his almost-empty magic reserves..? Was it a true death flag from the start or only a plot device for malleus' overblot....?
not yet! I do think they're going to get back to it eventually, but -- keeping it as low spoilers as possible -- there's been...let's just say a LOT going on in the meantime.
enjoy 7-6!!! :)
#twisted wonderland#twisted wonderland spoilers#twisted wonderland episode 7 spoilers#twisted wonderland book 7 spoilers#twisted wonderland episode 7 part 6 spoilers#twisted wonderland book 7 part 6 spoilers#i AM going to talk more about spoilers for a minute (i will try to keep it just up to 7-6 stuff though)#but i have. THEORIES.#my current hypothesis (based on absolutely nothing except vibes)#is that they're going to find the princess glow and use it to save lilia#via magic boost or...something. idk it was vaguely-defined enough they can handwave exactly how#because. look. they made a point of introducing this super powerful macguffin gemstone with magical dad-saving powers#and then never solidly established what happened to it#(twst? talk at length about something totally irrelevant that never comes up again? surely not)#but it would tie in very nicely with the rest of the parallels between silver and the knight of dawn#and i like how it would be sorta like...a little bit of meleanor coming back to save lilia#(again) (less violently this time)#my even-more-based-on-nothing theory is that crowley might have the princess glow and this might segue into whatever's going on with him#as always i could be completely wrong but i'm just. y'know. feeling it.#i'm still obsessing over that one line from episode 4 where azul was like 'oh yeah i totally know crowley's big secret'#which was most likely azul bullshitting but i'm still like IT'S GONNA COME BACK AAAAANY DAY NOW#(at this point no one will be more shocked than i) (the validation would be nice though)

keefe pov for an entire book in the human world is such a funny concept. i hope it switches genres from fantasy to contemporary romance. shannon dive full in and have him pine for sophie for 400 pages straight with little to no plot. take the final leap shannon.
